The best one yet! Jacky Faber gets herself into the craziest most exciting adventures in this one. I loved it!

5 out of 5 stars The Best Book Yet.......2007-08-31

This novel is the best that i have read so far.

When i first read the Curse of the Blue Tatto, I thought it was going to be one of those books where you had to put it down every 5 seconds so you don't die from boredom. But it was just the oppsite and for the Jolly Roger one it was even better. It had action through out the book and was really interesting. I especially liked the part where they had the big war. It was kind of like the last part of the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean 3' but better. The English slangs were sometimes annoying but it really gave me an idea of how Jacky talked.

I have to say this on had a lot of adult content thingys then the other ones but oh well it's still good

5 out of 5 stars Fresh and engaging 5-star young adult novel.......2007-08-07

In this the latest installment (Book III) in the Jacky Faber adventures, young and impetuous Jacky sails back to England after leaving the Lawson Peabody School for Young Girls in Boston.

Jacky is now in search of her beloved Jaimy, but when she shows up at his house, his insufferable mother turns her away. Later on, she finds an ingenious way to meet him at the races by dressing up as a boy. To her dismay, she finds him holding hands with another girl. Impulsive and passionate as always, she assumes the worst and storms out of the place without asking an explanation, only to fall into the hands of kidnappers. When she opens her eyes, she finds herself aboard a ship far from the coast.

But the worse happens when her kidnappers realize the inevitable--she's a girl! Now Jacky has to prove herself as an accomplished sailor, keep the filthy captain away from her, and earn the respect of her fellow mates. Of course, her dilemma doesn't end here, for soon enough she's mistaken for a pirate and the authorities put a price on her head!

This is a book that will be utterly enjoyed by young fans of pirate adventure stories. Non-stop action and thrills fill the plot, but what really stands out is the well-drawn, utterly adorable character of the sensitive, yet headstrong teenaged protagonist, Jacky Faber. Her interaction with other characters and sharp wit are a delight to follow.

L.A. Meyer has an unusual, original style that is fresh and engaging. The author uses the present tense to tell the story; since it is a historical novel, I would have preferred the past tense, but this is purely a personal choice. Also, at times the technical descriptions of Jacky as she handles the ship can be a bit tedious, though I suppose this can be appealing to hardcore fans of pirate stories.

The ending leaves at a crucial point, leaving the story unfinished and readers begging for more.

Armchair Interviews says: The book can stand on its own in spite of being the third one in the series.

5 out of 5 stars A rollicking good time!.......2007-07-26

This is really great reading! I couldn't put it down and both my kids and I think that it may be the best so far, although Bloody Jack was pretty entertaining too! I especially loved the first half of the book- her character really shone. It was neat too to see her return to Cheapside and give back to those whom she had left so abruptly. The big battle was extremely well written. As one of the reviews commented, this isn't for the fainthearted- some of the images particularly in the Captain's cabin are disturbing but once again, Meyer had all three of us on the edge of our seats. Well done!!

5 out of 5 stars Why Can't I Put this Book Down???.......2007-06-30

That was my thought as I read this book when I really should have been working on a very important project. It was well worth it though!
I started with The Curse of the Blue Tattoo less than a full 12 months ago and found this in a library and knew it had to be as good and unbelievably refreshing as the previous book. And, even though you're given the plot on the bookflap and you can guess the expected outcomes of some things being so easy to do, you still get surprised, delightfully. I reccommend the full series or what there is of it at the moment.

*ALSO, if you are unfamiliar with Cockney or British slang, it may be a tad bit difficult to understand so I suggest looking up a word or two if you absolutely don't understand, which is highly unlikely.

*ONE more thing! If you feel too young or are squeemish when it comes to almost-adult content, this book has that! Just as a warning! You'll miss out on some fabulous text though!

* These factors are evident in all the books.

A Pirate's Love

Sailing westward toward the Caribbean sun, young Bettina Verlaine obediently sets out to fulfill the promise made by her father--but not by her heart -- a prearranged marriage destined not to be...once the notorious Captain Tristan's pirate ship appears on the horizon.

Abducted by the bold and handsome brigand, the pale-haired beauty surrenders her innocence in the warm caress of the tropical winds -- detesting her virile captor for enslaving her. . .yet loving him for the passionate spell he casts over fragile, yearning heart.

1 out of 5 stars I would give this 0 stars........2007-09-18

I cannot even finish this book. This is one of the worst books I have ever read. I am so glad I got it from the library and did not pay for it. I would throw it in the trash and I love books. How are you supposed to read a romance about a "hero" that is continually raping the heroine. Then everyone around her acts like it is no big deal and she should be happy about it because he is hansome. This book is discusting. I don't care if it gets better because I just can't take it anymore. It has been years since I didn't finish a book but I cannot read one more line of this book.

1 out of 5 stars I hated it.......2007-08-26

How this could have been considered a romance is beyond me. I have read a Lindsey book before and enjoyed it very much. However, this book left me with a bad taste in my mouth. It certainly has me questioning the authors idea of a healthy relationship. Im all for the strong willed man seducing a woman but I am NOT for the continual rape of a woman. I hated this book and I would have it banned from bookstores if I could. Rape is not romance no matter how you write it. It is disgusting.

4 out of 5 stars A Misunderstanding of Johanna Lindsey Novels.......2007-08-03

I saw "A Pirartes Love" at the store and it caught my eye, one because it was a Johanna Lyndsey novel and I read her Malory novels and loved them and two because I like pirate stories. I wasn't too sure whether I should get it or not so I read the reviews and they honestly turned me off from the book, but I decided to give it a chance anyway and I am happy to say that I am glad that I didn't listen to the bad reviews.
This book is about a french woman named Bettina who is kidnapped by a pirate named Tristian, and yes ladies and gentleman he does rape her, repeatedly. But from the very beginning of the book there is a connection between the two of them that is present, but Bettina is reluctant to admit to it because Tristian did rape her. I'm not condoning the act of rape but this is the plot of the book, which is fiction, so there is no need to sound the alarms and be discusted by it. As the book progresses it does turn into a love story, though the lines are blury as to how it got to that point. It pretty much jumped from I hate him to I love him in the matter of a page without much explination as to the light bulb moment when Bettina realized it.
Another matter in question is how Bettina's mother and maid tried to convince her to submit to Tristian even though he raped her, This book takes place in the late 1600s when men ruled women and women knew this was there lot in life and they knew that men had the power to do as they please. As as bad as it might seem that Tristian did rape Bettina, aside from that fact he treated her good, and only treated her badly or became ruff with her when she pushed his buttons, he did try to show her pleasure, and be gentle with her. If your looking for a book where the women is equal to the man, then historical novels is not your cup of tea.
As far as Johanna Lindsey goes as an author, this was only her second novel and personally I think it was pretty good, though she has improved tremendously through the years, and I don't think that because you read this book and don't like it means that you should be completely turned of by her as a writer, if you didn't like this book then definatly give her another chance and try the Malorys. All in all this book is a good read and should not be read or taken literally but as a work of fiction.

1 out of 5 stars Guide on how NOT to write.......2006-10-02

I absolutely hate this book. I recently bought it as an example of pirate-related romance fiction for my own writing since I am not very familiar with the genre, but instead I found it to be an example of how NOT to write. I went to my local bookstore with a different book in mind to buy, which they did not have in stock, so I picked this one up instead. BIG mistake and waste of my money. I'll never again buy a book without reading the reviews first. I actually found myself laughing out loud because the plot is so ridiculous. I can't imagine how this book ever got published.

1 out of 5 stars Vile, disgusting, horror in words.......2006-07-30

If you're in the mood for a horror story in the romance section of the bookstore grab this atrocity. It's brutal rape after brutal rape with illogical characters and development. There's no seduction here. In the beginning Tristan threatens to torture and kill the members of her crew (by cutting off their fingers, ears, toes, etc. before throwing them to the sharks) unless she allows him to rape her. When she opens her mouth to tell him how much she is not enjoying the experience, he roughly and painfully forces himself on her. This happens over and over. Lesson learned... fight your attacker in any way and you'll hurt worse.

In the end, she's pregnant, in labor, having been tortured by the man who raped and murdered the hero's mother but she insanely professes love for her rapist hero.

This book is so disgusting one wonders why it remains in print. It is most definitely not a romance novel. There's simply no romance or love in this book. It is a plain old boddice ripper and tale of brutality. I suppose some readers who enjoy rape fantasies (and continually torching puppy's eyes with lit cigarettes) get a kick out of it.

But if you want to see how the villains in all of today's romances view their world, then this is their idea of ::cough:: romance ::gag::.

Book Description

Are you the type of person who stays up nights wondering how they get the paper tag into Hershey's Kisses? Or why portholes are round?

Even if you don't lose sleep over such matters, you have to admit that such questions are, well, worthy of consideration.

Here, from David Feldman, creator of the Imponderables® series, are the latest questions on the minds of his devoted readers and fans. No question from his readers is too small or obscure for Feldman to tackle. From the return of red M&Ms (they are back, if you've missed it) to new-car smell, the answers to life's little mysteries are dissected in these pages.

Although it's all done in great fun, there is also an educational edge to the answers, as Feldman ferrets out top experts in diverse fields to come up with his entertaining answers. And their answers may surprise you—from the detailed physics involved in why cans of Diet Coke float but regular Coke doesn't, all the way to why they put crinkly paper into pairs of men's socks (but only one sock, not both).

Complete with drawings by longtime Imponderables ® illustrator Kassie Schwan, and a special section updating answers to questions in previous books in the series, this eleventh book of Imponderables ® is sure to entertain the thousands of Feldman fans who have purchased over 2 million copies to date. Prepare to be delighted!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Another witty, informative winner from Feldman!.......2006-10-05

David Feldman returns! . . . for fans of his series of
IMPONDERABLES books (and I'm one), that's good news because
by reading his latest effort, you'll learn the answer to the question
raised in the title: WHY DO PIRATES LOVE PARROTS? . . . along
with answers to such other questions as: Why are most psychics
women? How does the vending machine know when it's Sunday?
And why do peanut butter cookies have crisscross marks
on them?

I like the fact that Feldman thoroughly researches each and
every question, then proceeds to answer it in a manner that
not only informs but also puts a smile on your face . . . for
example, in case you've always been wondering what do they stuff
in medicine balls to make them so heavy, he found this out from
the MediBall company:

The balls are filled with an aqueous gel composed of potassium
polyacrylate and water. It is non-toxic and non-hazardous,
the same material is used an absorbent in baby diapers. Should
not hurt you unless you eat too many of them.

I also liked his discussion of the most frequently asked irritating
questions . . . among them: Do blind people dream? (Yes, but
they rarely see anything in their dreams.) . . . also: How many
licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? (The
average seems to be 600 to 800 licks, though my finding
is more along the lines of Mr. Turtle, who when in commercials
was asked how many licks it took him to get to the center,
replied, "I never made it without biting."

The accompanying drawings by longtime Imponderables illustrator
Kassie Schwan added to my enjoyment of this wonderful book that
will make a great holiday gift for folks of all ages.

Book Description

Catherine

Born to a prominent Boston family, Catherine Markham is a bit of a hellion despite her gentle upbringing. Stifled by the rules imposed by society, Catherine yearns for adventure. When her beloved brother is kidnapped, she decides to deliver the ransom herself -- with the help of a young man few others might turn to.

The Pirate

Derrick St. John lives on the edge. The memory of his dead father tainted by treason, Derrick's life has been spent at sea in both legal and not-so-legal pursuits. Determined to clear his father's name, the last thing this young pirate wants is to embark on a voyage to Savannah in the midst of a war with the British, much less with a young lady who spells trouble at every turn.

An emotion stronger than caution takes hold of Derrick, and he finds himself unable to refuse Catherine's pleas for assistance, even though the journey promises peril for them both. And so the headstrong girl and the daring sea captain sail into an exhilarating adventure that fast becomes a journey of the heart.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Mystery, danger, adventure and romance! The perfect book!.......2005-05-30

I have loved many of the books in the Avon True Romance list of books, but this is my favorite one on the list. I love this book for many reasons including:
1. The heroine isn't the stereotypical damsel in distress, and Catherine is a character most people can relate to.
2. The kidnap of her brother causes the readers to keep the pages turning.
3. The plot to save her brother is fantastically well thought out, and made me read the book in one day!
4. The person Catherine turns to for help is Derrick, a handsom captain with some intersting skeletons in his closet. (*Not to be taken literally!)
5. The inevitable romance between Catherine and Derrick cannot be because of her high social stature, and Derrick's family history causes their love to be a complete scandal!

4 out of 5 stars Adventure and Romance.......2004-09-11

This book was as good as i hoped it would be, though i didn't like how Catherine cried so much! It took me by surprise when i started liking the shipmates better than i did her. They were funny and likable. The adventure in the book was exciting, and the romance was well written. Overall i thought it was a good book.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-06-18

THIS WAS SUCH A GOOD BOOK I READ IT IN LESS THAN THREE HOURS.
THIS STORY IS ABOUT A SIXTEEN YEAR OLD CATHERINE AND TWENTYTWO YEAR OLD DERRIC. IT IS FULL OF LONGING AND COMPASSION. THEN LOVE. WITH ENTHRALLING MOMENTS OF BATTLE AND DESEPTION THIS IS ANOTHER GREAT AVON BOOK IN THE SERIES.

5 out of 5 stars AN AWESOME READ!!.......2003-10-16

Although, I was unsure of how good this book would be, I picked it up and read it anyway, and I am SO glad that I did. This is an awesome book with many ups and downs. I believe that a good romance novel needs conflict and tender moments, which this books has many of.

3 out of 5 stars A tame bodice-ripper!.......2003-08-04

Fiesty Catherine embarks on an adventure to rescue her brother, who has not been lost at sea as presumed but kidnapped. When his pirate friend Derrick comes to her aid, it is inevitable that the two fall in love with the typical song and dance: she likes him, but doesn't think he sees her as a woman, he agonizes over not being good enough, they argue, they make up, they kiss and are excited and regretful, yadda, yadda, yadda, etc, etc, etc.
The romance itself is too tame to be believable; in spite of all the desperate longing, the momentous first kiss is the only racy moment. Chastity and virtue until marriage are all well and good, but not necessarily historically accurate any more so than today. And let's face it - the real reason teen girls read Harlequins and the like is for the racy moments! This tale fails to deliver.
The local Boston setting may have some appeal. What makes the book a mild success are the historical details and happy ending. Cover art that imitates Avon's line of romance for adult readers doesn't quite work for the teen crowd; marketers would do better to find a more unique style for their younger audience.
The series has been uneven so far. The ones written by young adult authors tend to be better than the ones written by romance authors, and this title is no the best in this new series of bodice rippers geared towards teens. Stock characters, over dramatization, and simplification of attraction and love may insult some teen readers. A good addition if your romance collection needs beefing up, but add balance with books like Kate Cann's Ready? Sex. Go! (Harper, 2001) and Louise Plummer's The Unlikely Romance of Kate Bjorkman (Laureleaf, 1997).

Book Description

After the popular success of her Botany Bay and "C" series, USA Today bestselling author Edith Layton brings us her first stand alone novel in years that is sure to enchant Layton fans everywhere.

A proper gentleman, Constantine, Lord Wylde, proposes to a similarly proper young woman. It's a practical proposal that pleases both parties....Until the night Constantine finds an old pistol–packing pirate waiting for him at home. The old man claims that Constantine was promised at birth to his granddaughter. Constantine travels to Cornwall to unearth the truth and, once there, discovers the family fortune is the shameful result of piracy and highway robbery. And he meets the young woman his father promised him to at birth.

Lisabeth is beautiful and well–educated, but because of her unusual upbringing, she's unaware of the proper behavior of young ladies in the ton. As she has always been enamored by stories of Constantine's swashbuckling ancestors, she's half inclined to fall in love with him too, but she finds him nothing like them! He's too staid, and he finds her too Original.... until they fall into each other's arms and realize that they may have been meant for each other after all.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Delightfully Entertaining - Real Characters.......2007-02-22

Lord Wylde, Constantine is what most would consider a `proper' English gentleman. Always correct, circumspect, ever conscious of his place in society and would never, ever, be the source of any improprieties - basically a bit of a bore! As with all things having a proper time and knowing that it was time to wed, he chose for himself a young woman who would be well-bred, properly decorous and a good match. After placing the notice in the papers of his impending nuptials, receiving the congratulations on his good fortune he was thoroughly horrified to receive a visit from a disgruntled aging pirate who informed him of some shocking news. Lord Wylde was already betrothed - to none other than the pirate's granddaughter Lisabeth!

Lisabeth a rather independent free-spirit unassuming young woman has never had an inkling to be married. Growing up her fantasies were towards portraits of the dashing pirates and stories of their long ago adventures. Meeting Con, she was ready to change her mind by his likeness to the portraits of his long ago ancestors - at least until she realized what a stick-in-the-mud he was. But somehow, destiny and the wise counsel of friends and family had a way of showing both Con and Lisabeth that when love enters the equation all things are possible.

In equal measure, you'll find yourself laughing out loud at the delightful antics and sighing immeasurably at the very sweet and tender moments of this highly entertaining romance. Lisabeth is a heroine you'll take right into your heart, right along with her crusty, but lovable Grandfather, and her delightful and highly unorthodox governess/companion Miss Lovelace. Con's growth as he is finally set straight about his illustrious lineage and famous ancestors was cleverly worked into the story and helped to also win him a place in your heart as well. The story was delightful, well-paced, plausible, and in my opinion very original. Readers certainly won't be disappointed by this darling story and should relish this cleverly entertaining tale.

4 out of 5 stars A Charming Read!.......2007-01-31

Constantine Wylde, Lord Wylde likes to live his life above reproach. He chooses carefully the company that he keeps and has taken a great deal of time and effort choosing the proper lady to be his wife. But, when the announcement of his pending nuptials is printed it brings a great deal of discourse to his life...including the fact he is already promised to another. Not just anyone, but a pirate's granddaughter, he can only imagine how inappropriate she's going to be and the fallout that will rain down on him. But Lisabeth is not what he thought she would be and dealing with his past proves life is not always what it seems.

This is a strong character driven romance. Con and Lisabeth as well as grandfather make up a wonderful cast of characters. This read is by turns laugh out loud funny as well as sweet and romantic. Con grows greatly from page one to the end and the romance between these to mismatched people is believable while still entertaining. This is a perfect opposites attract story. Lisabeth is a perfect match for Con and her independent nature is a fresh change. This is the first time I've ever read anything by Ms. Layton and I'm wondering what rock I've been living under. For romance, laughter, and entertainment you can't go wrong with Ms. Layton. Courtesty of CK2S Kwips and Kritiques

4 out of 5 stars A nice character-driven novel..........2006-12-31

I had picked up another novel and put it down after a few chapters because the characters were just cardboard, no life in them at all. Out of the stack of books beside the bed, I picked up this Edith Layton novel because I can always count on her to deliver, and this novel didn't disappoint. In all her books, the characters are real people, who struggle and grow during the book. I didn't give this five stars only because Layton has written better, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and she remains an "auto-buy" for me.

1 out of 5 stars Awfully Boring.......2006-12-25

This must be the worst romance book I've read in years. Both characters are blah and not much happens. I skipped tens of pages at a time just to get through the book since I bought it. It deserves zero stars. I am sure I won't buy any more from Layton.

5 out of 5 stars Light, Fun Historical Romance.......2006-12-12

What is a young lady to do when she is in love with a straight-laced, perfect gentleman's "wild" pirate and highwayman ancestors in which she has grown up in the shadows of? That is the story of "For the Love of a Pirate, which will keep you smiling and even laughing out loud. Constantine, Lord Wylde, is the perfect gentleman and he has found the perfect calm society Lady Winchester to accept his proposal of marriage and all is going to be well in his perfect "ton" world that he has grown up in. Until a raging old man pirate comes barging in and announces he has been betrothed to his granddaughter since birth by his father and son who were "thieves" together; his father dying while holding up a carriage, hers in a duel over another man's wife. How in the world is Con going to hold his head up in society? So he rides off to the town where his father lived and these "thieves" held out to gently tell this young lady they will not suit and to pay off anyone in the town that may be able to tell about his past. What he doesn't expect is the beautiful and bold Lisbeth and that the whole town thinks he is a hero like his father and grandfather. As he tries to come to grips with his father's past and his present, one week leads to two and so on and eventually he stays a month and finds that not only is he more like his ancestors than he realized, but he is beginning to like the idea of it, and the idea of Lisbeth. One afternoon he takes her innocence and as a gentleman feels he must do the right thing. But when Lisbeth goes to London she finds that he is reverting back to the straight-laced gentleman and realizes she may be more in love with the dream of him than with him. The story is delightful and the ending sweet. It is a cinderella story that makes you smile and believe in true love. It is a perfect holiday season release!

5 out of 5 stars A Christian Pirate? YUP!!!!!.......2007-08-30

This is a fabulous story!!! I couldn't put it down... It is everything a pirate adventure should be.

The characters are wonderful and realistic. Merrick, the pirate captain, is young in faith and has very realistic struggles. He is perfectly flawed and trying to overcome. Charlisse is strong and vulnerable battling her own past.

The adventures are exciting. This book was non-stop excitement, extremely believable (as far as a pirate story can be!), and made my heart flutter!

Tyndall's writing is so descriptive that I felt like I was IN the story... I could smell every smell, feel every wave, taste every flavor-- what a disappointment that it had to end. Fortunately, Amazon should be shipping the next installment soon!

If you enjoy Christian romance novels with suspense and adventure weaving it together, you will enjoy this book. It is more than just a love story-- it's a PIRATE STORY!

5 out of 5 stars Set sail for adventure and romance.......2007-08-27

This is a well-written tale of adventure on the high seas. Edmund Merrick is a reformed man. He's become a Christian and a privateer. He still struggles with his old fleshly desires, but truly wants to be the man that God created him to be. Will he succeed as a Christian and be able to keep his career as a pirate captain? Charlisse Bristol has escaped her tyrannical uncle's clutches, and is off in search of the father she has never known. She is rescued by Captain Merrick after being stranded on an island. He agrees to take her to Port Royal in search of her father. But when he learns that the man she seeks is none other than Edward the Terror, a ferocious pirate and Merrick's former captain, how will Edmund protect the lady he has grown to love from the pirate he has vowed to bring to justice?

M.L. Tyndall has crafted a very difficult to put down book. The chapters are short and easy to read. The chapter titles offer teases as to the contents. The characters and settings are so real they almost pop off the page! The Christian theme is woven creatively throughout the story. I can't wait to read book 2 in the series!

5 out of 5 stars Swashbuckling adventure.......2007-05-21

Redemption is truly in a class of its own. Never before have I seen a pirate adventure/romance in the Christian fiction section. It's a fast-paced, fun read. Charlisse has escaped an abusive uncle and is traveling to Port Royal to find her long-lost father. On her way, she is shipwrecked and who should come to her "rescue" but a band of bloody pirates, captained by the dreamy, newly-saved-Christian Merrick. Merrick is a great hero- you fall in love with him right along with Charlisse- he's sweet and sensitive but always has a mischievious twinkle in his eye... There are also some fun secondary characters, one that reminds me of Smee from Disney's Peter Pan (at least that's the image that comes to mind).

A great adventure story with a sweet romance thrown in. Just enough Christian overtones to be a pleasant read not too preachy. Overall a great find; I've already read it twice! I'm an avid reader of Christian fiction and romance, so I was absolutely delighted to see a different sort of story. Pirate stories are usually good, action-packed reads and the Redemption is no exception. Plus it doesn't have the smut of mainstream pirate romances to ruin the story.

**Check out www dot piratequiz dot com for a quiz to determine your pirate name.** Some silly questions but fun nonetheless. My name came out as Dirty Charity Flint (apparently in pirate-speak showering daily makes you dirty...)

4 out of 5 stars A Swashbuckling Romance!.......2007-05-12

A swashbuckling romance complete with a born again pirate! Go figure. But Mary Lu Tyndall has managed to pull it off.

As far as historical romance novels go, because secular novels had become entirely too torrid for me to tolerate, I stopped reading them years ago. So it was quite a treat to read "The Redemption." The book was great entertainment, and I can't do anything but recommend it to the historical romance fan.

Tahlula Bell (my poodle) and I enjoyed every minute we were curled up together cruising the Caribbean with Captain Merrick and Charlisse. Tahlula Bell doesn't have a thumb, but if she did, it would definitely be up. Woman Submit! Christians & Domestic Violence

3 out of 5 stars Gotta love pirates..........2007-04-27

I was really looking forward to this because of the numerous high ratings and the fact that it was a pirate book (gotta love pirates!). I have to admit I was a little bit disappointed in the character development (I didn't feel like I cared enough about them, but that could have just been me), but the plot was awesome. This book is full of tension and excitement, worth the read. Not gonna be on my keeper shelf but I did enjoy it. :-)"

This book has 11 pages to put the stickers on, not 12. In order to get 12, you must count the title page. The last time I had looked the title page did not count as a regular page of a book.

There are 39 stickers covering 2 pages. Most of the stickers are small. They are photographs from the movie, but they are poor reproductions. Only 4 of them are of Captain Jack Sparrow. So, if you are looking to get your Jack fix, look elsewhere.

Book Description

Once caught, it’s harder still to let a pirate go

When Annalisa Townsend’s ship is set upon by pirates in search of her father’s treasure, one of the crew, James Sterling, discovers her in the hold. When he moves to take her necklace, she begs him not to, as it is all she has left of her mother. He accepts a kiss in exchange for the necklace. “A fair trade, m’lady,” he tells her afterward, before disappearing.

A year later, with a forged letter of marque, Annalisa is intent on hunting down the wretched James Sterling and reclaiming her father’s treasure from him. But now she’s in danger of him stealing something far more vulnerable this time: her heart.

1 out of 5 stars Inane, Banal, and all around Stupid.......2007-09-23

I picked up this book because I will read anything that has to do with pirates, Peter Pan, or flying. I didn't think it would be a very good book, just by reading the blurb on the back. But this exceeded my low expectations to become the stupidest book that I have read in several years. The storyline moves so quickly that no plot points are developed at all. The dialog is trite and predictable. The story itself is also very predictable. I could write a better story, and I don't even consider myself a writer. The entire storyline is entirely fantastical. Nothing that happens in the book has any basis for how it happened, and it couldn't possibly have happened. While I like Sci-fi/fantasy as much as anyone, this book was not labeled as such, and therefore, should have had some basis in reality. I do not recommend for anyone over the age of twelve to read this book, as it is a waste of time that you could use on an infinitely better book.

3 out of 5 stars "A fair trade, m'lady. I'm content with it,".......2007-09-03

This is your average pirate romance, where a girl meets a pirate who robs her, she later goes out for revenge, and they end up hopelessly in love. The book is predictable and a bit undeveloped, but pleasant enough if your goal is to read something short and entertaining. There are some moments of interest, sword fights and the like, but the characters are a little pale. I never really became concerned about the characters, nor did I ever become obsorbed in the story.

5 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too.......2007-07-03

It's the year 1720, and Annalisa Townsend and her father are on their way to the Caribbean island of Mourning to set up a governorship when they are attacked by pirates. Hiding in the hold, Anna is discovered by the young James Sterling, who, surprisingly, says nothing of her whereabouts to the rest of the pirate crew. When he goes to take her necklace, however, which is all she has left of her mother, she begs him not to and he agrees, but only in exchange for a kiss. He then disappears with the rest of the pirates, and so does the treasure that the ship was carrying.

One year later, Anna has found a ship and crew of her own, and sets out to find James Sterling, determined to get her father's treasure back. She finds James and takes him prisoner easily enough, but getting him to cooperate is another matter entirely. As she spends more and more time with him, she slowly begins to forget that he is a pirate and starts to fall for him. James seems to feel the same about her, but has he really given up his pirating ways, and can she ever really trust him?

TO CATCH A PIRATE is a fun summer read full of swashbuckling adventure and romance on the high seas. Jade Parker, who also writes as Rachel Hawthorne and Lorraine Heath, has created a fantastic world with likeable characters that are sure to win over readers.

3 out of 5 stars Entertaining beach read but not meaty.......2007-06-10

Don't be fooled by the 320-page listing. The story ends on page 226! I was quite stunned to discover that both Amazon and Borders lists the book at 320 pages and dismayed at the bookstore when I was handed a book with only about 240 pages at most (and about ten of those include front and back matter). The book, while entertaining, breezes by as quickly as one of the Pirates of the Caribbean moves. But don't look for characters as colorful as Jack Sparrow or those as rich as the ones in the Horatio Hornblower or Jack Aubrey novels. But perhaps you're not looking for that. While Annalisa is an interesting heroine (plucky is the word usually used for such heroines) and James Sterling is dashing and appropriately dangerous and gorgeous, you'll not be in doubt at the outcome of this story. Still, you might find it difficult to suspend disbelief, like I did, that Annalisa is so quickly able to get a ship, an action that takes place between the prologue and chapter 1. But if romance is what you're looking for, well then you'll find it here. Three stars for the romance, but 2.50 for plot.

4 out of 5 stars Very sweet, could have been more complex........2007-05-16

I just finished this book, it was very sweet and definately put a smile on my face.

It was a fast read, but at the end of it I was wishing there was more (it took me a little over four hours to read.) I think the plot could have been a little more complex since the plot was geared towards older readers. But the plot wasn't completely simple, there were twists and turns... don't be fooled by the page count though... it's a fast book, but still worth the read.

She soared up the ranks of the New York Times best seller list with novels like Savage Thunder and Tender Rebel - and her legions of fans grow with every book. This exciting new novel of romance and deception upon the high seas will gain her even greater popularity. Sizzling with lust and love, it tells the story of beautiful young Georgina ("Georgie") Anderson, who leaves her Connecticut home in 1818 to find her fiance, who has been gone for six years. With the help of a family friend, she finds him in England - happily married with children. Heartbroken, Georgie is desperate to return home, but the only passage she can obtain is aboard the "gentleman's ship" Maiden Anne - where Georgie will have to pretend to be a cabin boy. She willingly agrees to disguise her sex, but her anxiety grows when she recognizes the ship's handsome owner from a previous barroom brawl. He is Sir James Malory, the tall, blond, ex-pirate black sheep of a proud and tempestuous family. Sir James remembers Georgie, but decides not to let on. Instead, he teases her unmercifully, across the Atlantic, asking his "boy servant" Georgie to shave his beard, wash his back and undress him - until one star-studded night they stop their charade and succumb to desire. But their romantic adventures have only just begun....

5 out of 5 stars Gerogie has a lot of brothers...so does James.......2007-06-08

I enjoyed this book. This book follows the typical romance formula, and you romance readers know what I mean. But it was enjoyable to read of a female character that was strong and resourceful. Yes, she did live in a time where she was subservient to the males in her life, but she also managed to stand up to them when it was important to her. The book is part of a series, though I don't know much about the others. But I enjoyed reading about the family members, They had enough personality that I plan to read more of this author in hopes of getting to know Georgie's brothers a little better.

I didn't know what to expect reading a kid's book but I have to admit that 1/2 way through I couldn't put the book down. If I were blind and had someone reading this book to me I would have still been on the edge of my seat until the end. The author's descriptions were very clear and very good. I would love to see 6th, 7th and 8th graders reading this in their literature classes. Lots of learning lessons in this book too! Thumbs up!
