Not for every woman.......2007-08-15
I recently saw a special on the WE television network which featured the author, who by her own admission, had been married 4 times by the time she was 40 years old. The special entitled "Cougars", featured women from age 39 to age 49 all dating men more than 10 years younger. All of these women had already been either married previously or had children so they had been down the domestic road of picket fence children and husband, now these women were simply looking to have a wild sexual time with no inhibitions, no strings for the most part, and just enjoy themselve with a young man. This of course plays exactly into the minds of what the committment shy male of this generation wants anyway. Why go out with a younger woman closer to his age, who will expect committment, a serious relationship that leads to marriage, when they can date a "Cougar" and just that relationship alone sets the boundaries, because of course a cougar can't expect a man so much younger than she is will marry her. (The Ashton Kutcher Demi Moore situation is very rare). Younger men love this scenario because it frees them from the so called drama they say they encounter from a woman who expects more. The older women like it because they've already experienced the marriage and children so they just want to have fun. This is not for everyone. If you're an older woman and still want committment and haven't married yet. (And it's interesting how they are starting to consider mid to late 30's as approaching "Cougar territory), but if you fall in that category a relationship like this with a much younger man will only most likely end in heart break especially if you want more. To each her on, but if you've been down the marriage path, and don't want to go that route anymore and you're just looking to go out have fun, be sexual and let the relationship stay at a certain level, then by all means, but if you're looking for more, the chances of that happening in a Cougar younger man relationship is slim to none. Don't let the hype about older hot sexy women having it all by dating younger men influence you. It is fun, if you want to keep it at a certain level.
It's our turn.......2006-08-01
As a 54 year old woman who sees men my age dating and marrying women half their age - I feel it is our turn to experience the same. I dated a younger man (my "boy toy") for four years - his family strongly disapproved of the age difference, but we had a wonderful time together until they finally got their way. I don't think cheap is the way to go. I do think grace, maturity, dignity, class is the road to take in this, as in all relationships. Be yourself, be gracious, be respectful, be mindful, and above all, be honest - with yourself, with him. If two people click, then age doesn't matter. I would never "use" a younger man. I would never "use" any man. Love is an incredibly wonderful thing between two people and age doesn't and shouldn't matter. If you find it - hold onto to it with all your might -- the wolf is always at the door.
Grrrrrrr.......2004-05-12
I was turned on to this book by a young man who was riding in my cab one evening. The man, in his twenties, looked like Harry Potter, but he was far from being a boy. He told me of this book and the world of the women know as Cougars. As we read together from Ms. Gibson's tome, I knew that as a twenty-something myself, I had to enter one of their lairs. That evening with Valarie Gibson's book in tow, we showed up at a variety of bars. When we pulled the book out, we immediately grabbed the attention of every 45 year old babe in the place. Not only is this book informative, it is just as good as a 22 year old man for cougar bait! Highly recommended.

Book Description
Drawing on the latest science of revolutionary biology, YOUNGER NEXT YEAR shows men fifty or older how they can become functionally younger every year for the next five to ten years, and continue to live like energetic fifty-year-olds until well into their eighties. The secret? "Harry's Rules"---deceptively simple, highly motivational rules like exercise six days a week; eat what you know you should; connect to other people; and commit to feeling passionate about something. Bringing together the doctor behind "Harry's Rules" (Henry S. Lodge, M.D.) and his seventy-year-old patient (Chris Crowley, the outspoken reporter in the trenches) YOUNGER NEXT YEAR welcomes readers to the next third of life. Train for it, and you'll have a ball.

Can We Live to be 150 .......2007-09-18
It is a very good book for anyone concerned about aging. We get more aware of our age at the time of retirement. Switching from a daily-work routine to a totally new idea of all-time-holidays is often not as pleasurable as we expected thirty or more years before. At that difficult time, it is very helpful to focus on the Four Pillars of Longevity as suggested by the authors of the book:
1. Six-times-a-week exercising.
2. Eating for nutrition, not for any other reason. Focusing on fruits and vegetables.
3. Avoiding boredom, developing your hobbies.
4. Connecting with many other people - creating a solid circle of friends.
The book provides some good medical background for these readers that like to understand why certain things are happening.
Another book well worth reading is Can We Live 150. It is the Body Maintenance Handbook, as the subtitle states. I like the common sense approach that is prevalent throughout the pages. Some of author's ideas, for obvious reasons, are similar to the ones presented by Crovley and Lodge, but on the whole it is a totally different book.
Younger Next Year.......2007-09-17
Great information on life changes for living a quality life beyond the age of 50.
Younger Next Year.......2007-09-16
The content is to exercise hard six days a week and little more presented in a smug and slightly condescending tone.
a guide to living like 50 until your're 80 and beyound.......2007-09-16
Anyone who is concerned about the high cost of health care and insurance should read this book. Best way to stay healthy is read this book. Both man and women need to read this book.
Great Book!!.......2007-09-07
This book is great reading! It's easy and entertaining. It offers excellent insights into our aging process and how to be healthy as we age. Each time I finish reading, I feel motivated to get out, exercise and get healthy!!

Book Description
Fall has come, the wind is gusting, and Leaf Man is on the move. Is he drifting east, over the marsh and ducks and geese? Or is he heading west, above the orchards, prairie meadows, and spotted cows? No one's quite sure, but this much is certain: A Leaf Man's got to go where the wind blows.
With illustrations made from actual fall leaves and die-cut pages on every spread that reveal gorgeous landscape vistas, here is a playful, whimsical, and evocative book that celebrates the natural world and the rich imaginative life of children.
Includes an author's note and leaf-identifying labels.

Simple text enhanced with a big dose of creativity!.......2007-07-06
My husband bought this for our two-year old, and we love reading it together with her. The text is simple, as it traces the journey of Leaf Man...the leaves used are magnificent in their colors...some bold, some subdued, but all unique and beautiful. I have since done some basic art projects with my daughter using this book as inspiration. We collect leaves wherever we go and hope to create a little book of our own!
Beautiful.......2007-06-11
My two little readers absolutely delight in this book. They love the language; they enjoy following the leaf man on his autumn journey; and they very much love to read it aloud to any adult who will sit with them for 10 minutes.
Beautiful.......2007-05-24
One of Lois Ehlert's best. I bought it for my mother-in-law who is a gardener and general nature-lover. But I use it to teach about leaves and using your imagination in my preschool art classes. The children all think it's so much fun. They always finish reading with so many more ideas of their own to get started on.
For leaf lovers!.......2006-11-07
My five year old and I really enjoy this book. My son enjoys looking for the pictures the leaves make and I enjoy the fact that the author collected these beautiful leaves, made images out of them and wrote a story around them! Colorful, imaginative, fun to read.
Creative look at Autumn.......2006-10-18
This is a WONDERFUL book! We read it to our class of 3-year-old preschoolers, and they were absolutely captivated. They were so quiet and engaged that they forgot to ask when we were leaving to go on our field trip.
As an added plus, we had one little girl who liked it so much that she had her mom go to the library to check it out to read at home. The child then sat down to re-create the pictures on each page using leaves she picked up in her yard. You know it is a good book if it encourages that degree of creativity and industry in a 3-year-old!

A Much Younger Man by Dianne Highbridge.......2007-07-20
Alyson ia a 35 years old English's teacher that falls in love with the son of her best friend, Tom. There is only a little problem... Tom is 15 years old.
Alyson sometime is lonely and when mets Tom, after few years she doesn't see him, she finds a person with a mind much older of his age, and she can talk with him of everything, except sex. Cause she can't think to him and sex, cause he is 15 years old and this thing is illegal.
But Tom makes a first move and Alyson rejects him: she can't. But Tom waits, and when he is sixteen, returns to her... and claims her.
It's strange, but the character stronger and surer in this romance is Tom. He doesn't have dubts, he is sure of his feelings, and, in the end, he finds every solution... Alyson, on the other end, is uncertain and weak, has many dubt and doesn't have answers...
For me is really difficult to image to fall in love with a 15 years old guy, but Dianne Highbridge has described the character of Tom so wonderfully that you can't not fall in love with him
Compelling.......2005-01-01
Finely-drawn characters, a plotline that keeps you guessing, truly cathartic moments, and a satisfying resloution - this novel pretty much has it all. The true-to-life rendering of family, friendship and romantic bonds is reminiscent of Canadian author Margaret Laurence, but Highbridge's prose is sparer, and her voice is ultimately unique. To take such a volatile topic and strip it of its sensationalism to reveal the humanity of the participants is truly masterly. I can't wait for Highbridge's next book.
A realistic and mature romance.......2001-12-20
The subject matter in this book is treated with respect and taste. We get to know Alyson, the 35 year old teacher, intimately. We cry for her. We want it to work with Tom, the much younger man, the son of her college friend. Tom sincerely loves Aly, but it will take a lot of courage to deal with society, Tom's parents, and the pressures on Aly as a schoolteacher. The eroticism is very tastefully done, but also highly sensual. Most of the characters are completely believable, with a few stereotypes thrown in to the mix. I know that I was caught up in the lives of the main characters when I began to helplessly sob in the next-to-the-last chapter of the book. This is not casual, light romance. This is serious stuff. It's heartbreaking, moving, and loving. You feel as if you have gone through the three years from the moment Aly and Tom first catch sight of each other on a commuter train. Aly goes from feeling Tom has an "incipient crush" to understand she is in love. Tom, being younger, feels it much sooner. But, in spite of being younger, his love lasts.
This book is written in a very unique style, jumping from first to third person with nary a breath. However, it works. Nearly everything about this book works, and I have re-read it several times. You can feel the emotions as you read about them. Fine story-writing like this is rare, and I highly recommend this book.

True and honest.......2001-08-21
Dianne Highbridge's heroine, Alyson, is written in a true to life light - in all her inadequacies, her weaknesses of the flesh and mind to stay away from the social taboos of a romance divided by age. The environment which Highbridge creates for the characters is claustrophobic - not unlike what they are experiencing underneath the thumb of his parents, her parents, and others who tell them that they are a social disgrace. What seems to be a fiery romance, stays just that, but also presents itself at the end, as two people who have struggled through oppressive forces, only to find that the only two people who matter in the end of the relationship are themselves.

Book Description
It's out there — in the press, on the internet and emblazoned on the glossiest magazine covers: romance rule breaker, the union of older women and younger men. Whether couples marry or live together, the popularity of "age gap" relationships is undoubtedly on the rise. Despite the statistics and the acceptance of such relationships among celebrities, negative stereotypes that surround these romances prevent many older women from having the happy and loving union for which they long; for these older women have not been open to finding a mate from within the large pool of younger men.
In their provocative, groundbreaking guide, Felicia Brings and Susan Winter, both of whom have had long-term relationships with younger men, shatter the myths as they share their thoughts and the experiences of over 200 couples on everything from sex to dealing with her family and his, to handling the criticisms and comments of peers. Advice is delivered with large doses of empowerment, humor and compassion that will help make the brave new world of relationship potential between older women and younger men lead to lasting love.

An Amazing Read.......2007-08-21
I read this book several years ago. I was in a place having been married to a man my own age and stage for almost thirty years. Suddenly I was bowled over by the attention given to me by a much younger man. It was an amazing experience an adventure and of course a curiosity. I wondered and worried and actually I should have worried more but there are not regrets and this book was exsquisite and excellent and recommended. If he were to read this I would love him to know how amazing and awesome it was. And to read the book to gain the insight he had but may now be denying as he will have a life and a young like aged wife just as I had...
Bought as Research, Intriguing Concept.......2007-07-25
Having read some articles on younger men dating older women as a growing trend, I decided to dig a little deeper into the topic. If it's socially acceptable for a man to date a much younger woman, why would the same not apply to an older woman with a younger man? This book aptly covers most aspects of such a pairing. Most interesting were the comments by younger men throughout the chapters; there's even a chapter devoted to their thoughts and experiences.
While I can't see myself dating a much younger man (and am not in a position to do so), I feel the book is insightful, honest, at times amusing, and offers a glimpse into relationships which are very often misunderstood. I'd have to say my attitude has shifted; I'll be more thoughtful and considerate should I meet such a copule from here on out.
The only reason I'm not giving a five star review is I felt the authors at times unfairly generalized about older men versus younger ones. Like women, men are individuals. Not all older men are neanderthals, and not all younger ones flexible, open prince charmings.
Great relationship book!.......2007-07-14
I wish I would have discovered this book 4 years ago at the beginning of my relationship with my younger man! It is so very insightful! Not only for older women, younger men relationships, but for anyone in a relationship. I have shared much of the advice with my friends that are in other kinds of relationships.
Thank you Brings and Winter for all the research you did and writing this book. Everything I have learned from the experiences of the last 4 years was reaffirmed. It has also given me the confidence in the choices I have made.
Here's to the older woman, younger man relationships. They are absolutely the best! Cheers!!
Debbie
Insightful book.......2007-02-20
This book covers the challenges and benefits of a type of relationship not often seen or understood - that of the older woman and the younger man. The authors interviewed numerous older woman/younger man couples for the book. Although some of the interviewees are women in their 30s, the book is geared more toward women in their 40s and 50s who are dating men more than 10 years younger than themselves. It covers everything from managing comments from strangers, dealing with disapproving friends and family, handling insecurity and fear, to more everyday issues such as who pays, what to do when you make more money than he does, how to avoid playing mommy, etc.
The most interesting part of this book is that it focuses on intimate relationships. It is NOT a "cougar" book that advises women to find young studs for hot sex. Instead, it encourages women to simply be open to younger men, and shows women that true intimacy and commitment can be found with younger men. And, as a 30-something who has dated several men in their 20s, I can personally say that the authors' points all ring true. If you are interested in a younger man, pick up this book, and give the relationship a chance.
Only works with good people.......2006-06-06
Great book! I bought one for me and her. Tells you everything you could ever need to know or ask about starting and keeping a yonger man older woman relationship alive and well.
BUT: After many years with the love of my life aged 55 and I 22. She had an affair on me and broke up with me two weeks ago!! She had everything she could have ever needed in this world but she got gready and wanted more so she went for the money man. Love ment nothing to her, I guess I was just her part time "Boy Toy" until she found better.
I am CRUSHED I loved that woman more then life itself. Now she won't even talk to me. She had a frind of her's tell me that it would have never worked out and that I should move on with my life find someone younger and have kids, even though I told her I didn't want kids.
So guys listen up before you end up just like me. STAY AWAY because the pain will be worse then all the good you ever had.

A delightful combination, definitely a keeper..........2005-09-21
This was a stellar pairing of wonderful writers.
"A Little Dare", Jackson
Alisdare "Dare" Westmoreland and Shelly Brockman were high-school and college sweethearts. After 6 years of what appeared to all to be an amazing relationship, Dare decided he was more interested in pursuing a career in the FBI than continuing his relationship with Shelly. Shocked and destroyed, Shelly moved away. Ten years later Dare is the Sheriff of their hometown and Shelly returns after years of self exile.
Shelly returns to town with a 10-year son that Dare doesn't know exists. Having reached that challenging pre-teen age, Shelly decides that it is finally time for Dare to meet his son and to help raise him.
Dare is shocked and surprised that he has a son and commits to doing whatever he can to win his son's love and trust. What Shelly doesn't know is that it is not only his son's heart that Dare has designs on.
This is a delightful story of attempting a second chance at love. In her enjoyable and fine tradition, Ms. Jackson crafts an attention-capturing, fulfilling tale.
"A Younger Man", Alers
When Jerome Kumi Walker encounters Veronica Johnson-Hamlin on the side of the road as she waits for help with her flat tire, he is both impressed and amused at the independent streak that only barely allows her to accept his assistance. When Kumi requests a home-cooked meal as a way for Veronica to repay his favor, she again reluctantly accepts. After sharing that meal, Kumi is strongly drawn to Veronica, while Veronica thinks Kumi - 10 years her junior - is too young and probably too inexperienced for her.
Kumi sets out on a mission to prove Veronica wrong. As he begins to court her he senses that much of her resistance is related to a painful past that she's unwilling to share. Kumi, however, is not deterred, as he is dealing with his own personal family drama, and sets out single-mindedly to woo Veronica.
This tale is satisfying in its allowing each of the characters to grow and develop individually as the romantic interaction between them unfolds. I really enjoyed this story.

She's still reeling from shock and devastation when graduate student Boone McCrea walks into her office...and into her bed. Boone might only be twenty-four, but he is, quite simply, one of the most attractive men Elizabeth has ever seen, a work of art that stirs wild sensations she has long repressed. Zeke may be too young

She may try to treat him like a kid, but he figures that won't last long after she gets a taste of him. Sara Walker is going down, he's decided. On him. Intent on conquest, at first Zeke overlooks Sara's reckless behavior. But when he's hanging from a crane in the middle of an electrical storm, he begins to learn the troubling truth about Sara. The woman is reckless to the point of no return. And when Schueller Engineering is offered a project in bomb-torn Iraq, guess who's the first to volunteer? Zeke races against time to discover the cause of Sara's irresponsible disregard for danger, before she takes it too far and he loses her for good. He's determined to work his way into this woman's life and prove to her that her heart is safe
in Zeke's hands.

One of Shelby Reed's Best!.......2007-03-10
While Madison Hayes' contribution to this book (Zeke's Hands) is less than stellar, Shelby Reed's (A Fine Work of Art) more than makes up for that fact.
TITLE SAYS IT ALL.......2007-03-10
Love a younger man is about women finding themselves alone and looking for a second chance. Two different stories of how they arrived. The common issues that arise in May - December relationships are addressed. I have read other works by Madison Hayes that are much better, Alpha Romeos is a prime example of Madison Hayes's talent.

Persuaded my girlfriend to continue our loving relationship........1999-09-25
Very much like being at a recording of a "Phil Donahue" type show. Author poses questions to those in OW/YM relationships and presents new outlook to old stereotypes. Book dispels OW/YM relationships as unchic, but more compatible interpersonal relationships. Very comforting to know there are others out there just like you two - which validates your feelings. Also, gives insight in copping with many issues, such as to who wear's the pants. My girlfriend has this book highlighted all over. I rate this book better than going to a marriage counselor !
AgelessLove.com gives it a big thumbs up!.......1999-08-18
Victoria's book is the main book we recommend to our visitors and friends! If you can't find it in the bookstores, request it! Scour your secondhand bookstores, too. We certainly hope that Victoria comes out with an updated version soon! (AgelessLove.com - the first online community devoted to age gap relationship support!)
A must read for anyone in an OW/YM relationship!.......1998-10-13
Victoria Houston's book covers every issue relevant to an older woman/younger man relationship. It has proven to be a valuable resource for those seeking information on their own dilemna's as they surface. She certainly dispells any misconceptions that arise and ultimately eases the hearts of her readers by the time the book ends. Drawing from her own personal experience, enhances the books content and underscores the positive thrust throughout the book.
Those associated with "AGELESS LOVE", (the only web site devoted to OW/YM relationships), devour the book and use the information readily.
Forbidden love ? Think again..........1997-07-31
An excellent book to read for everyone, specially those who are or have been in love with an older women or a younger man ! Book Description
How can you find love when you don't know what it looks like?
Naked in the Rain is the story of 47-year old widow, Norah Edwards, who meets 23-year old James Ross in a bar in Montauk, New York, one lonely day in September. Norah takes James home, and he soon discovers that she has as many secrets in her past as she does scars on her back. Twist and turns abound, each passage building to a surprising crescendo in this sexy novel. James helps Norah pick up the pieces of her life as she aids him in finding a direction of his own.
"Debra Markowitz may just be the Jacqueline Susann of her generation. While her NAKED IN THE RAIN revolves around more simple lives than the entertainment industry's movers and shakers depicted in Susann tomes, Markowitz is no less sexy, bringing characters to life with a sensual style that almost makes you blush while reading. She doesn't foresake great storytelling for sex, but incorporates the two in such a compelling way that the phrase page-turner seems to take on new meaning." Bill Lieberman, In Touch Magazine
"This is a riveting first novel, a story of love and betrayal, of survival and triumph. Naked in the Rain is an inspirational story, at once triumphant and penetrating." Bruce Feinberg, BMF Studio
This book was a surprise and a pleasure to read. Debra Markowitz crafted a very strong heroine in Norah, who practically sets the pages on fire with her sensuality. I expected your typical romance, but this was so much more and I found myself reading it very late into the night. I can't wait to see what Debra has in store for her readers next! Sex Sells, Naked Delivers!.......2007-08-13
My wife made me read this book. I'm not one for romances, but she promised this one had enough twists, and sex, to keep me interested. She was right! This was fun! I can usually figure out a book's ending within the first twenty pages, this had me fooled. Of course I'd need a plain brown wrapper if I were to read it on the train, but it would be worth it.
A Small Book Big on Story .......2007-07-30
A friend mentioned this new author, Debra Markowitz, and she raved about her book, Naked in the Rain. I had to take chance. I was not disappointed. As I suppose I'm like everyone else, too busy to breathe most days, Naked in the Rain was refreshing. I read it in a weekend and was laughing...and crying...like a lunatic. If you want to "feel," and also love sensual books, read Debra Markowitz's Naked in the Rain.
Covers All Emotions.......2007-06-04
Naked in the Rain made me laugh, cry and blush. I actually got caught at work sneaking peaks as I could not put it down. The storyline took you to a different place yet was so real that I could easily relate to what was going on in Norah's life. The most upsetting part of the book was when it ended as I wanted it to go on. I am looking forward to more books from Ms. Markowitz and hope she doesn't wait too long.
a great story.......2007-05-29
"Naked in the Rain," is Markowitz's first novel, and should be considered a triumph. It's the story of fourty something Norah Edwards, who brings home James, a young 20 something stud, from a bar one night. In addition to their sexual relationship, the two become fast friends; each providing something the other has been desperately seeking. For Norah, James is the rock..he listens as she attempts to explain and confront the ghosts of her past. For James, Norah is the motivated woman who helps him find direction in his own life.
Ultimately, one could call "Naked in the Rain," a romance. It IS romantic, yet not sappy. It's also very sexual and sensual, but not too erotic. It's a nice mix of romance, suspense and sadness. It's filled with secrets and surprises, and will keep you hooked until the last page.

this book was awesome! i couldn't put it down - it was a powerful story that took hold, page by page, i couldn't get enough. it was the right combination - enough sex to keep it interesting, but not so much as it overpowerd the story. i was instantly drawn in with the long island locations. i loved the way the story unfolded. this was a great first book and i can't wait for the next - keep them coming - kudos!
Book Description
Are you a SARAH -- Single And Rich And Happy?
Hazel Chamberlayne is. She's turning forty. And do you know what? She's excited about it. Successful by her own standards, flanked by a group of magnetic friends, she feels as if life is genuinely beginning for her.
Okay. Hazel would like a man. Though seeing the dregs of relationships every day as a divorce lawyer means she doesn't have much hope in men, much luck with men nor much time to look for them, period. Full stop.
However, when fellow divorce lawyer Joe Ryan appears -- a man ten years her junior, with a longstanding live-in girlfriend -- he challenges Hazel's beliefs about who men are and what they want. And what will make her happy in life. Because this man may be different. May be.

Interesting Journay.......2006-03-14
This book was a fun look at life and love and the perfect timing. Life is all about choices and this book illustrates this perfectly.
interesting boardroom romance .......2006-01-04
In London as divorce attorney Hazel Chamberlayne nears her fortieth birthday her cynicism towards the opposite sex grows geometrically at the same time the empty nest syndrome beckons with her beloved daughter heading off to college. Hazel feels quite good with being a senior partner and believes life begins at forty, but also feels somewhat lonely having not dated since her own divorce.
The firm has a new legal partner, Joe Ryan, who Hazel, shocking herself, finds quite desirable as she has not felt that way towards a male in a long time. Joe, though he has a live-in girlfriend and is ten years her junior, reciprocates her feelings. Though Joe makes efforts to prove not all men think with that head as he is falling in love, Hazel refuses to step out of her safe zone as she knows an affair with a junior partner could cause havoc on the firm and besides he has a lover; no sloppy seconds for her.
This is an interesting look at a boardroom romance between a senior female partner and the junior male newcomer; part of the profundity is the woman being the older person in the potential relationship. When the story line focuses on Hazel and her relationships with her ex, her daughter, her staff, and now Joe, the tale is top rate. When her zillion friends share the lead, the plot slows down under overload. In spite of too many sidebars tidbits, Sarah Tucker provides a compelling relationship tale between an older woman and THE YOUNGER MAN.

Younger Man.......2005-12-26
As Hazel Chamberlyne's fortieth birthday approaches, the English lady lawyer is not depressed, but feels like a success, except for the lack of love in her life. Then, she finds herself working with a handsome younger man who is attracted to her. That's when the insecure moments begin to arise. Joe Ryan just seems too good to be true, and why would he want to be with a woman ten years older than himself? It would seem Hazel's worst enemy is herself.
Though there are a few bright moments, for the most part, this seems to be a fairly plotless story. Joe is too much of a beta hero. If he and Hazel go dancing, I'd expect her to lead. One thing that does count for this story is though set in England, the British slang is not incomprehensibly used to the detriment of American readers.

A Good British Hen Lit.......2005-12-26
Having enjoyed Sarah Tucker's first novel, but not her second, I was still interested in reading her latest release The Younger Man. Tucker has an interesting, breathless, and detailed way of telling a story that I have to admit intrigues me.
Meet Hazel Chamberlayne. She is almost forty, beautiful, divorced with one child who is about to enter college. Being that she is a divorce lawyer, you would think that she was hardened and not looking for her true love. But strangely that isn't the case. She has a tight circle of friends (known as "the girls") all with their own lives and love problems. And things are OK.
Then Joe Ryan starts at her firm, and she is forced to work closely for him. Despite the fact that Joe has a girlfriend of 12 years, they are instantly very attracted to each other. After a date and a non-kiss, Hazel tries to distance herself from him. Joe meanwhile decides that he is in love with Hazel, and breaks off his 12-year relationship with his girlfriend.
At the same time as all of this, Hazel's friends have dramas of their own. One of her close friends is getting married, and one of her other friends discovers a malignant lump in her breast.
The Younger Man has the elements of Tucker's first novel that I liked: the first-person, present-tense narrative, the in-depth (sometimes too in-depth) details and conversations, and the suspenseful romance sideplot. The writing itself however is a bit to digest at times, what with the single quote marks around dialogue that can be confusing to American readers. The character also often goes into thoughts in the middle of a narrative, which can be confusing. Somehow though it comes together as a decent novel.
I was a little disappointed with the plot and choices that Hazel makes.
But overall, this was a decent, if unusual, British chick lit novel that many henlit fans will enjoy. But don't be fooled by the title; this book is barely about dating a younger man, but more about a woman turning 40 and deciding what to do with her life.
