Informative business guide to strategy.......2006-08-23
I bought this book for a college class and kept it. While it is not the most exciting book, the case studies are an excellent guide to a wide range of business plans and strategies. The cases are divided into four categories: single business companies, diversified companies, implementing and executing strategy and ethics & social responsibility. The cases are very complete and interesting. The downside is the shelf life of the book - I would expect a new edition before long.

I am a student majoring in Business Administration who recently used this text in an upper-level management course. The book's writing is utterly superfluous. Boredom was frequently my sentiment as I weeded through unnecessarily labyrinthine sentences. The ideas in the book were occasionally interesting, but were usually ideas I had already developed on my own via simple intuition. Perhaps the most valuable part of the text is the section of case studies. This closing segment of the book contains many great ideas for student projects. Overall, this text disappoints me as a student

Herbs are grouped in chapters by function, with expanded summaries and tables for contrast and comparison. Each herb is identified by its pharmaceutical, pinyin, botanical, and family names, as well as Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and English common names.
Key characteristics are provided at the beginning of each entry, along with dosage, properties, channels entered, and relevant cautions and contraindications. This provides a quick overview of essential information.
Actions and indications are integrated with important combinations that illustrate the range of an herb's functions, with references to appropriate formulas. This presents a more three-dimensional picture of how each herb is actually used.
Expanded commentary offers in-depth analysis and places each herb in its clinical context through rich historical references. The mechanisms of action underlying important combinations, and comparisons with similar herbs, provide a broader context for understanding how the herb can be used with optimal effect.
A section devoted to nomenclature and preparation describes the most important methods of processing and preparing each herb, and the advantages of each method. It also provides information about other commonly-used names and historical background.
Safety is an important focus of this edition, with an emphasis on proper herb identification. Issues concerning standardized products, desirable qualities, variants, and adulterants are explained for each herb. There is also extensive information on toxicity, as well as chemical constituents.
The utility of this book is enhanced by its wide range of appendices, among which are color photographs comparing the standard and adulterant forms of over 20 common herbs; tables of herbs that are indicated for specific pathologies of the five yin organs; and extensive cross references of the herbs by taxonomy, pinyin, pharmaceutical name, and other East Asian languages. There are also comprehensive indices of both herbs and formulas, as well as a general index.

Well, what can you say about this book? This is a hefty, giant book, and could certainly induce some kind of cerbral damage if dropped out of a third story window. :) No, in all seriousness, this is a great, concise book, and as the title of this review implies, it becomes more manageable after you get used to it. Used solely by itself, it will probably not help the student of Chinese herbology to ace any exams, but used in accordance with other study techniques, it will furter deepen and reinforce the studying of the herbs.

This book contains a lot of valuable information on market strategy. The content of the book is very useful, but also very wordy and repetitive. That makes gleaning the book's "meat" a very frustrating task.
Fortunately, core concepts are listed in page margins to summarize main ideas. There are also diagrams illustrating these core concepts. These will help you to skip past the fluffy content.
I think this book shows real promise but is in serious need of copy editing.

Book was required for an 8 week course. The way the text is written there is too much repetition and information for the course - some chapters are over 50 pages long (10-15 of those pages are used as examples and repetitive information). May be better suited to the standard semester class.

I don't care much for the first person style although in this one Mojo was very amusing with what she was thinking. But I would have liked to see things from someone else's POV. In this case it would have been great to know what Tucker was thinking. I also have a lot of questions:
When did Tucker and Mojo meet, what was their relationship like, when did she find out he was a cop, why did they break up, how long had he been divorced, was he still involved with his ex?
It looks like there is another book planned and I suppose some of these questions will be answered in that one. But, while the plot was interesting and the appearance of the ex-husband and dead cat were hysterical, I just didn't like this one enough to get started with a series.

Little needs to be said for an account, any account, much less a peppy one that reads like a veritable 'soap' opera, of a company that spends close to US$ 5 billion p.a. on advertising alone.
It is by definition a must-read for anyone even on the periphery of the marketing industry, and Yours Truly can vouch for the insightful trivia you'll pick up along the way if you hang your shingle in the media circles.
But the sheer strategic sweep that the authors have packed into this treatise on what kept Ivory afloat (beyond watery puns) will make it a worthwhile read for just about anyone in business. The singular most significant take-away being the allocation of media budgets a century ago versus how things stand today.
Interesting thoughts and riveting reminiscences wrapped in sprightly prose. Recommended in a blink.

This book is an introductory course to accounting. It explains concepts and terminology in plain and basic English. To further enhance understanding of the materials, the authors have incorporated pictures and cartoons. This book is the newest edition and contains revised learning components and new part-ending case studies. The textbook also comes with a Student CD-ROM. It contains resources to help students, such as how to give a professional speech. Overall, this book is great for anyone who is taking an introductory course to accounting or anyone who wants to enhance their knowledge.

This is a great book. It teaches me how to analyze the competitive business environment we have today. It provides many good examples to illustrate the concepts. The book also includes many cases that tell me what strategies those big companies employ and how they succeed. I really like the book.

Ian Westmoreland is the proud owner of the Rolling Cascades Casino, one of the newest gambling casinos in Vegas. It boasts an affluent clientele and a security operation second to none. But because the prior owner was jailed for illegal gambling, the FBI wants to do an unofficial investigation of Ian's establishment. One of two agents will be assigned two the case, an intensely dogmatic investigator who is trying to make rank, or Brooke Chamberlain, a former love interest of Ian, one he has gotten out of his system. Guess who gets the assignment?
Brooke dated Ian for a little over three years, and looked out for his best interest, but Ian felt she betrayed him; he severed their ties and moved on. Under the guise of needing R&R, Brooke checks into the Rolling Cascades. She is fully aware that if Ian discovers the real reason she is there, things will erupt like a volcano. Well things do erupt, and not for the reasons either of them thought. But, they have to lay their differences aside, and whatever else is simmering between them, because the casino is the target for a notorious theft ring.
In true Brenda Jackson fashion, IAN'S GAMBLE will ignite readers in a way that is pleasing and rewarding. Again she gives a volatile story, with a touch of suspense. She revisits some favorites from the powerful Westmoreland family and highlights the mystique that surrounds them. This is a provocative read.

oh! were can i began i just love all of her books i have all of her books Brenda Jackson is os amazing. I really love all of her books. I read this book in couple of hours. I always go though all of her books fast everyone need to go and get her books you would not put it down. Just go and get the book. I just love the westmoreland family.

I love the cover of this book - the guy is yummy! Good continuation of the Westmoreland series. Nice to read about a natural headed dread sister! Makes a change from the silky long hair stereotypes-lol
One thing I notice why do all the women in this series have to be virgins or only had one lover (who is never as good as the Wesmoreland male) whilst all the men are former playas - not exactly real is it? The fact she never had anyone during the 4 year separation whilst Ian is known as The Perfect End? - mmmmmmm. Anyway great book, nice to catch up on previous characters I look forward to the next one.
