    Book Description

When Caribou tells Polo that his mother loves him with all her heart, Polo is curious. How is this possible? he wonders. He asks several of his Arctic friends how their mothers love them. Pinpin, the penguin, explains that his mother loves him with all her wings. Felix, the seal, knows that his mother loves him with all her flippers. When Polo finally asks his mother, she explains that she loves him with her whole body -- her fur when she rubs against him; her eyes that shine when she sees him; her nose that smells his warmth when she hugs him; her paws when she tickles him. But more than anything else she loves him with all her heart.

This tender story, accompanied by adorable illustrations, captures the all-encompassing quality of a parent's love. Readers will soon love Polo with all of their hearts, as children snuggle up to their parents to hear this story read again and again.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect gift for a new baby.......2006-02-28

This is a heartwarming and unique expression of a mother's love...in all it's touching ways.

    5 out of 5 stars Very sweet.......2005-09-28

This is such a very sweet book. I read it to both my 3 1/2 year old and my 2 year old boys. They listen and really enjoy it. I love it and will keep reading it to them!

1 out of 5 stars Cute but WRONG.......2005-02-24

This is a nice, cute story with one glaring problem. Penguins live in Antarctica near the South Pole...polar bears live in the Arctic near the North Pole!! This book adds to the incorrect assumption that many children AND adults have that polar bears and penguins live in the same area. The writer REALLY should have done a little research before putting this book in print. For that matter, the publisher of this book should be even more embarrassed. I understand that this is not meant to be a non-fiction, educational text. However, it would be nice to not perpetuate incorrect thinking in the readers.

5 out of 5 stars "I Love You With All My Heart" Review.......2004-10-15

I received this book as a present and I loved it!
This is sweet story about a little polar bear named Polo who learns a simple lesson about mother love.
The illustrations show a variety of polar animals, all drawn beautifully .
You can see a lot of care went into the crewation of this book.

This book should bring a smile to your face (and your child's).

    5 out of 5 stars What a sweet book!.......2003-01-31

This book is beautifully illustrated and is so sweet. My 18 month old son asks to be read this book constantly. You can't help but fall in love with the pictures and the story. What a perfect way to express a mother's love.

Anne despises the seductive war hero who has proven himself a rogue. Yet with her life at stake, she must join forces with Joshua and enter society to unmask the culprit. 4 out of 5 stars Heartening romance with well-executed mystery.......2002-10-01

On this third installment tracing the romance of the Kenyon Brother after Tempt Me Twice and Romancing the Rogue, Barbara Dawson Smith returns triumphantly with the story on Lord Joshua Kenyon - galvanizing with a smorgasbord of romance and intrigue in the well-plotted whodunit.

It is Brighton, 1815 and war veteran Joshua Kenyon embarks on a duel with Pankhurst to settle a long-standing feud where Joshua was rumoured to have abandoned Pankhurst's sister Lily and seduced Lily's best friend. The duel was sabotaged by a mysterious intruder who shot his opponent - and what was even more astounding was that his opponent was a female - identified later to be Miss Anne Neville. She had substituted Pankhurst to rescue her beloved friend from a brush with death.

Who could have wanted Miss Neville's life? Could it be her cousin Edwin who bears a seated grudge when she is the recipient of her uncle's fortune? Could it be the enigmatic Samuel Firth who had intended to shoot Joshua but ended up hitting the wrong target? Barbara Dawson Smith takes readers through a labyrinth of red herrings and paranoia as suspects surface with cloaked shenanigans. The mystery is intelligently plotted and cogently structured to deliver a rousing epilogue.

Even more stirring is the romance. Joshua and Anne complements beautifully in wits and intelligence as well as heart. As the veteran plagued with darkness, Joshua is determined to portect the innocence of Anne by maintaining his distance. Yet as danger approaches his desire to protect Anne stems from a deep yearning of wounded souls. The couple evokes an emotional gravitas that is searingly tender in the face of treacherous miscreants.

With a romance that is equally measured in the intensity of its mystery and mayhem, I gladly proclaim Ms. Smith a maverick tale-spinner- with all my heart.

    4 out of 5 stars a good read.......2002-09-19

"With All My Heart" is part of the Kenyon brothers-Rosebud series (other books in the series include "Romancing a Rogue" & "Tempt Me Twice"), and I think is probably the best of the bunch so far.

Seven years ago Lord Joshua Kenyon abandoned his bride-to-be on their wedding day and returned to the Peninsula to carry on fighting Napoleon (Joshua was a captain at that point). His fiancee, the incredibly beautiful and vivacious Lily Pankhurst, went into decline because of his desertion and died soon after. And Joshua has been reviled ever since as a scoundrel and a cad. The wars are now over, and Joshua has returned to England to pick up the pieces of his life. But barely has he set foot on the island when Lily's brother, David, seeks him out and challenges him to a duel. Except it is not David that Joshua faces that fateful morning, but rather Miss Anne Neville, a good friend and neighbour to David Pankhurst.

The only daughter of an incredibly large family (Anne has 9 brothers), Anne is used to taking care of everyone around her. And knowing that David is not at all proficient with guns (while she is actually quite a skilled shot), Anne decides to take David's place at the duel. What Anne hadn't counted on was that someone else would be at the site, and that that person would shoot her, thus putting and end to the duel and unmasking her masquerade to Joshua. And while Joshua is understandably furious at Anne, he also resolves to uncover what is going on. Why would anyone would seek to kill universally liked Anne Neville? Or was David Pankhurst the real target?

Anne is equally determined to discover who tried to kill her, and so although she despises Joshua almost as much s David does, Anne is determined to work with him in order to get to the bottom of what is going on. But the more time she spends with him, the more she realises that there is more to Lord Joshua Kenyon than meets the eye. The Joshua she is getting to know may be a tad dictatorial and reserved, but he is also kind and compassionate. How could this Joshua be the same man who jilted Lily so callously? On top of it all, this sober and thoughtful Joshua is beginning to affect her in a way that no man has ever done before! Could spinsterish and firmly-on-th-shelf Anne be falling for the silver-tongued cad?

A word of warning: while the bulk of the book does not revolve around the should-she trust-him-even-though-he-is-a-cad motif, there is a fair amount of this going on as Anne tries to reconcile the Joshua of the scandal with the Joshua she knows. So, if you really hate those kinds of plot devices you might want to take note of this. However, because this plot device is actually an integral part of the novel, and because Barbara Dawson Smith handled the whole thing rather well, this plot device did not become quite so tiresome as it might have. Another small detraction was that the language was a tad too modern for my taste. But again this was a minor enough annoyance.

On the plus side however, the authour has created two rather memorable principal characters who did engage my concern and fancy. When I first met Anne Neville, she came across as being incredibly rude, bossy and confrontational. But as the story progressed, and I got to see all the different sides of her personality and character, I couldn't help but grow to like and approve of her wholeheartedly. Joshua is pretty much the usual run-of-the-mill angst-driven hero -- but a likable one at that! What I esp liked about this novel was that you get the sense that while Joshua is totally appreciative of Anne's charms, that it is her character and personality that captures and holds his interest. As such, the romance that develops between Joshua and Anne turns out to be a touching and poignant one as well, and one that one cannot help but root for.

I rather liked "With All My Heart." It was a satisfying read. The first two books in this series weren't exactly memorable, but this one definitely was. The book ends with the hint that there are two more books (at least) in the series. And on the strength of "With All My Heart," I will be checking out these forthcoming two.

4 out of 5 stars engaging Regency romance.......2002-09-14

In 1815 England, former soldier Lord Joshua Kenyon fights a duel of honor with David Pankhurst over the death of the latter's sister following the former ending their engagement seven years ago the day before the ceremony was to occur. Josh fires at a tree only to see his foe fall to the ground wounded. Someone else shot Pankhurst. Josh sees that his fallen adversary is a woman. Being a doctor used to gunshot wounds from his military time, Josh tends to the female before taking her to his home where he can treat her.

Josh learns that Anne Neville, fearing for David's life, drugged him and replaced him at the duel. Though she thinks he is the enemy, Anne admires the way Josh took charge. As she reluctantly agrees to work with him in uncovering her assassin or perhaps David's, their pretense of courting turns into love. However, for years she thought the worst of her beloved and finds it difficult to believe otherwise.

WITH ALL MY HEART is an engaging Regency romance that sub-genre fans will enjoy due to the mystery investigation that provides freshening suspense to the story line. Though readers will wonder why Anne behaves out of character for the period by risking her life in the duel and tire of her shrilling accusations, the audience will admire her courage and fully appreciate the fortitude and moral fiber of the honorable Josh. Barbara Dawson Smith renders a wonderful historical romance that will send the Regency crowd seeking her novels starring siblings of the lead male protagonist.

3 out of 5 stars Definitely not the best of this wonderful trilogy........2003-04-24

I loved Steadfast Heart and Reckless Heart and searched for this book as the grand finale. I was pretty disappointed. I liked Graham and Berkely but the story line wasn't that great. I would have liked more than the last chapter devoted to the reunion and interaction of these 3 brothers. With all my Heart had so much potential but it just didn't quite get there. I love Jo Goodman's books and her men are wonderful!! Perhaps I expected too much.

    4 out of 5 stars Charming.......2002-05-25

i generally make it a point to avoid reading trilogy's or a host of romances involving the whole family, but i liked this book particularly coz firstly they had a good old fashioned romance not a love-hate thing like most books it was just a nice book that leaves a smile on your face i thought it was just precious, the Grey and Berkely were well brought out and i have to say i like a little of the supernatural such as berkely's second sight it added a good dimension in the book. good buy.

4 out of 5 stars love those brothers.......2000-01-14

I just finished reading the Thorne Brother Trilogy. With All My Heart is Grey's story. Colin and Decker Thorne hire Berkeley Shaw, who has the 2nd sight, to locate Graham Dennison who disappeared 5 years ago. He was the last known person in possesion of a family heirloom that was given to Greydon Thorne when he was adopted as an infant. Berkeley heads to San Francisco and meets up with Grey Janeway, owner of the hotel and gambling hall, The Phoenix. Is he the missing Graham Dennison? Read the story and find out. I will be glomming Jo Goodman's back list, and eagerly awaiting her next story, that is out this Spring.

4 out of 5 stars A fun read if you can get through the first 2 chapters.......1999-04-01

This is my first read of Jo Goodman. I selected With All My Heart because San Francisco is one of my favorite cities. The first two chapters were slow, but once you get past the build-up and the necessary scene setting it's a great book. I haven't read the others in the series, but it didn't matter. Ms. Goodman weaves enough of the details into her story that the reader isn't left scratching her head wondering who these people are. The romance is touching, the characters well developed and the plot is full of twists and turns so you have no idea what's going to happen next. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys the city or a good romance.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT ENDING TO A GREAT STORY.......1999-03-27

WITH ALL MY HEART WAS WORTH THE WAIT.I CAN'T THINK OF A BETTER WAY TO UNITE THE THREE THORNE BROTHERS THAN IN SAN FRANSISCO IN 1851,WHERE ALMOST ALL THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN SAN FRANSISCO ARE STARTING THEIR LIVES OVER AGAIN. WITH GREY'S MEMORY LOSS, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE FOR COLIN AND DECKER TO FIND HIM. BUT,SENDING BERKELY AND HER HUSBAND TO FIND GREY WAS ALMOST A LITTLE TOO MUCH TO BELIEVE UNTIL BERKELY'S TRUE POWERS COME TO BE TRUE WHEN SHE EXPERIENCES IVORY'S RAPE WHILE WEARING HER DRESS. I REALLY GOT INTO THE STORY THEN AND COULDN'T PUT THE BOOK DOWN. I WAS SO HAPPY FOR COLIN TO FINALLY FIND BOTH OF HIS BROTHERS. MS. GOODMAN--GOOD JOB.

    Book Description

Joshua Elazari is an orthodox Jew. Intensely brilliant and charismatic, he is and advanced Talmudic student at an elite Rabbinical college. And at the same time a doctoral student in English at Princeton University. Christine Mellowrand is a strikingly beautiful coed in her final year year of undergraduate studies at Princeton. Exceptionally intelligent and charming, and strong willed, she also enjoys the advantages of wealth and a highly cultured home.

Josh is invited to deliver the second of the English department faculty lectures during the Fall semester. Chris attends and is overwhelmed. She becomes fascinated by Josh as a person and by the realm of thought he opens up to her. A singularly exquisite and passionate love draws together two extraordinary young people who were not meant for each other - the brilliant, uncompromising Jew and the exceptionally gifted and striking Gentile girl.

Powerful and perceptive, interlaced with keen humor and sharp wit. This book provides a glimpse into the Yeshiva world of Orthodox Judaism, its philosophies and values.

    Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Lord Help Me (and the author).......2007-07-08

RETCH. This book defies words for its incredible awfulness. I was intrigued - how could I not be - by the premise of a young man 'shteiging' in Lakewood yeshiva while pursuing a phD in lit at Princeton ... that's enough to pull me in (especially since the author himself is rumored - pseudonym, of course, but at this point his cover is blown - for having done the same) but then - da dam! - he falls for a non Jewish girl (beautiful of course) named Christine, funnily enough (this should've been a warning sign, if the title wasn't one enough- I'm surprised the author didn't make her last name Magdalene) - and the plot thickens. Well I'm all for the mind soul - heart soul? - conflict, so, sure, sign me up.
AAAAGGHHH! Explain to me how a literary scholar can write SO poorly? Is there a cliche he left out? We have our hero, Josh/Yehoshua, who is handsome, brilliant, beloved and a seemingly perfect man. So perfect, in fact, that he doesn't even register the conflict that one SHOULD be feeling leaving an institute of kuloh Torah twice a week to immerse himself in secular studies with the same fervor. No, he's actually totally fine with that because he is a Jew first and foremost and this is just a fun side activity. yeah. Whatever. Then enter the heroine, who is so beautiful that Josh (heads up, this is a definite winner for talmudic pick up lines) can't help but think - there is a commandment to make a blessing upon seeing beauty thatis out of the ordinairy - surely she would qualify.
It gets even vomity-er as the book continues. The author uses this book as a mouthpiece for all of his knowledge of Torah and philosophy and lit and his own opinions on all of that (hey buddy, Ayn Rand called, she wants her pretense of fiction back) and just tacks on a he said, she said at the end and calls it dialogue. YAWN. he's also a great one for going on and on in his speeches and then having the listener marvel at how clever and witty and brilliant the character is. Way to pat yourself on the back.
Sigh - what a shame. All that potential. There is no subtlety, and for all the complexity of the conflict, no complexity! He spells out, LOUD and clear, all the feelings of the characters without leaving anything to be deduced, but leaves out huge chunks where character dimension and plan old realism ought to be. Um, where are the shadchans that should be knocking down Josh's door, with him grappling over how to tell them he's 'busy'? Where are his friends wondering why he's never around? How is it that after three encounters in the library Josh and Chris declare undying love for each other? Hello? How bout the Rosh Yeshiva - telling Josh to go ahead and give Princeton a go -- yeah that's SO realistic. Please! And the fact that Josh insists from the getgo that they be shomer negiah - and it only comes up once that she raises the issue? How is JOsh so comfortable with women, given his limited access? We hear very little about his family life and background (save for his, of course, saintly sister who somehow seems to take this bombshell of her holy brother dating a gentiel with a lot of equanimity) which I guess makes sense since the depth of his character was clearly not on the author's mind. If he wanted an excuse to espouse all sorts of philosophical banter (the way brilliant people flirt, apparently) then couldn't he have just written them up in some style akin to his musings, journal entries or whatnot? I mean, really. This just gives fiction a bad name.
This book was so bad I had to finish it so I could properly complain. Everyone was perfect and no one seemed to have any development beyond puppet like motions to move along the, er, "plot." This book is beyond editing. It needs to be rewritten, and it should be, because this could be one great book, idea wise, if the author could just get over himself and lay off the harlequins ('the sun had never risen before she met Josh' ... o..m..g...). Stick to your day job, man - apparently your critique of literature only goes so far.

3 out of 5 stars with all my heart, with all my soul.......2003-12-02

Written eloquently, this story brought me up, down, and then shattered my heart. I believe it did the same to the author, who must have written such a tale to find out for himself what the finale would be. It has one of the saddest endings I've ever encountered in a story, and what gives me hope is that I know there are two people somewhere, out there, who will become the sequel to this story.

    5 out of 5 stars Excellent Book.......2003-06-22

I thoroughly enjoyed the book - it made me laugh and it made me cry, but more than that - I loved the philosophical ideas that it portrayed. It gave words to the expression of how I am feeling deep in my heart on some issues, but have been unable to express.

2 out of 5 stars missed the point.......2003-04-20

If one were to give this book a peripheral reading one would come out intensely satisfied. But were one to delve into the "essense" shall we say, one were to find this book utterly devoid of a basic tenet which would preclude any such sequence of events, even from the imagination. This being the question that is left unanswered throughout the entire book, why is the torah the life-blood and the totality of Josh's being. This question remains. And Christine being the unusually gifted person that she is, never even once adrresses this question!
This question would seem to be the most important quetion one could ask, if an average person were to ponder the subject, how much more so someone whom (albeit ficticiously) is as gifted intellectualy as Christine Mellowrand. It would seem that the author does not know the answer. If true, then .....

5 out of 5 stars An Amazing Insight !!!!!!.......2001-12-20

I loved the book and I think any one can appriciate this book with the right intentions in mind.

      Book Description

This is the story of a woman's life as seen through two different views. As one of the most prominent Southern Gospel singers today, she represents the history of Southern Gospel. She and her husband, Earl, are among the founders of that evangelical movement. More than that, however, Lily Fern was a wife and mother, while living life on the road for her religious conviction. She has traveled coast to coast, performing in churches and conventions, radio and television, for over 50 years. Each year, she and her group, The Weatherfords, work over 200 performances, from the smallest country church to the 20,000 person per night National Quartet Convention. The humor and pathos of life on the road provides a story in itself, but Lily Fern's role as a matriarch of the movement adds historical significance. From her birth in Oklahoma, through her "dust bowl" migration to California to her fame as a featured artist on the Gaither "Homecoming" tapes (now at Platinum! , in most cases), her life reflects the conflicts and values of a segment of American culture.

      Book Description

Benjy has nightmares about his upcoming Bar Mitzvah ceremony. Rachel's grief over Grandma Hannah's illness turns her away from her temple. Jaci wrestles with peer pressure by day and angels by night, and when Cain and Abel double-date... well, growing up has never been easy.

As these and nine other stories in With All My Heart, with All My Mind demonstrate, growing up Jewish adds its own twists and turns to the challenge. As we approach the end of the millennium, what does "growing up Jewish" mean? How can young people reconcile centuries of tradition with the modern world? Can they embrace their religion "with all my heart, with all my mind"?

Award-winning author and editor Sandy Asher posed these and other questions to thirteen Jewish writers: herself, Eve B. Feldman, Merrill Joan Gerber, Jacqueline Dembar Greene, Johanna Hurwitz, Eric A. Kimmel, Sonia Levitin, Carol Matas, Gloria D. Miklowitz, Susan Beth Pfeffer, Ruth Minsky Sender, Phyllis Shalant, and Jane Breskin Zalben. From the last days of Masada to the future colonization of the moon, these stories provide unique and personal insights. in the interviews following each story, the authors discuss their own experiences growing up Jewish.

These are stories that will make you laugh, cry, think, and above all, help you to explore what it means to be a Jew.

A portion of the money generated from the sale of this book will be donated to MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger.

      4 out of 5 stars A Good idea for a book - which succeeds.......1999-11-30

Thirteen years of age, the time of Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, on the cusp of young adulthood, when you are able to make tentative decisions for yourself. Asher captures this time with these 13 original stories. What can I add to what has been said above? Not much, except that Susan Beth Pfeffer's (Little Women) "Cain and Abel Double-Date" is priceless and I think most readers will relate to it. Another shining story is Eric Kimmel's (Magic Dreidels) story of stolen Pesach dishes, and faith in a Nazi concentration camp (it sounds weird, I know, but you have to read it).

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful book of mom's expressive love for all.......2007-02-16

I actually bought this board book for my son (and there is one for daughters too. He is 30 and she is 28, but they could be a baby and a 2 year old. It tells how many hearts mom loves you with, doing laundry, taking you places, tucking you in at bed. I think it is a very good for reminder for all aged "children" that the hard work mom's do for their children is a dedicated and marvelous act of love.
