Eye ultrasound in detail.......2005-10-25
the book has been written in concise way; it really presents excellent reference how to perform and read eye ultrasound. It has been printed using classical black and white design. The book would be much more "readable" if new more modern design was used. I recommend this book to every everyophthalmologist.
The Ultimate in Ophthalmic Ultrasound.......2003-09-10
This is the most comprehensive text I have ever seen on Ophthalic Ultrasound. The Illustrations and explinations are exceptional.
I keep my copy in a central location in the clinic and have found the MD's refrence it as often as I do.
Great deal for $150.00

Book Description
She has hair of ginger and lovely green eyes, and she has just been transported with her family from Terezin to Auschwitz. In short order, her father commits suicide, and her mother and younger brother are dispatched to the gas chambers, but 15 year old Hanka Kaudersova is still alive.Faced with the choice of certain death in the camp or working in a German military brothel on the eastern front, she chooses a chance at life.Passing as an Aryan, Hanka's days in the brothel are full of cold and hunger, fear and shame. She is sustained by her loathing of the men who visit her and by a fierce, indomitable will to live. This devastatingly beautiful novel soars beyond the nightmare to leave the reader with a transcendent sense of hope.

The choice between life and death is a very thin line.......2007-05-07
Would you become a whore in order to survive? This is the question that A 15 year old Jewish girl Hanka Kaudersová asks herself when she is given the chance to pass herself off as a gentile in the concentration camp she and her family have been sent too during the last months of the war.
She is lucky to have "lovely green eyes", and reddish hair, she doesn't physically look Jewish and so she has a chance of life and she takes it even though she hates what she has to become in order to survive.
With all her family dead, her mother and younger brother sent straight to the gas chambers, her father choosing to throw himself on the camp's electric fence than to have to live in such terrible conditions, Hanka has no one left to call her own, all she has is her will to live but is it powerful enough to get her through the horrors ahead of her as she learns to ply her trade as a soldier's whore?
With many other girls, all older than she is, no one knows she is only 15 years old, she has pretended to be 18, Hanka or Skinny as she is known as has to service between 12 to 15 German soldiers each day and this she does even though she hates every moment of it.
Her virginity is lost in the brothel, only she knows this, though a German officer asks her with curious detached interest about her first sexual experience which Hanka tells him with equal detachment was "strange". The men she is forced to have sex with she has no feelings for, no passion, no desire, no love, no lust, nothing other than hatred and fear for what she must do in order to see the sun rise the next day.
However Hanka is a survivor, and her friendships with the other girls in the Brothel especially the enigmatic Estelle sustains her each and every dat and she does survive when all those around her perish one by one.
An evocative cruel read that leaves you wanting more even when the last page has been turned.
"A hard-edged story of hope and survival".......2004-08-31
Czech-born Lustig is known for his penetrating stories of survival and suffering, often revolving around his own experiences in Auschwitz and other Nazi concentration camps during World War II. There is little sympathetic about his treatment of the Holocaust, but in Lovely Green Eyes we learn the story of Hanka, a young Jewish girl who manages to survive in the camp by passing herself off an Aryan, thus her nickname, Lovely Green Eyes. Lustig's prose is stripped bare and reveals all the horrors of such an existence but at the same time, the novel is a hard-edged story of hope and survival.

Book Description
Anna Traverne will never forget that evening back in England when a bold intruder stole into her chambers -- a dark and daring jewel thief who came for treasures and inflamed her passions with a brazen caress. She thwarted the dashing rogue then. But now Julian Chase has followed her halfway around the world. Julian has come to take what he believes is rightfully his. And he has vowed to have his tender, sensuous revenge on the enchanting, silver-blond angel who robbed him of his birthright ... and purloined his heart in a single, unparalleled moment.
Customer Reviews:
Skip the romance.......2004-06-11
The book has some odd chapter structures. For instance, there's a romance scene that gets broken across four chapters! The first chapter is devoted just to the kissing. The second chapter has the foreplay. The third chapter is the actual act. The fourth chapter is the post-coital brag session. The book is actually better when the romance scenes are skipped as they are the most poorly written parts of this book. They are bad enough to be laughable.
THE GREATEST LOVE STORY I'VE EVER READ!!.......2002-09-28
This was my second book by Karen Robards (the first being Paradise County) and I can already say, it will be my favorite! A friend recommended this to me and she was absolutely right in doing so! The story of Anna and Julian left me completely dazzled. It usually takes me a few weeks to read a novel of this size, solely due to time issues; but I finished this one in exactly 3 days!! I could not bring myself to put it down and I thought about it way too much when I wasn't reading it! The story behind the love story was great, the settings ideal, and the secondary characters very interesting, and the "love" scenes will make you shudder!! HOT!! If you like romances, or even if you thought you had outgrew them (like I did), this is a MUST READ! I promise, you will NOT be disappointed!
EMERALD EYES AND JEWELS.......2001-07-11
Reading the "free" exerpt of GREEN EYES made me buy it. Ann Travern, recently widowed, is at the mercy of her deceased husband's older brother, Graham. And Graham has made it expressly clear that Ann will either become his mistress or both she and her small daughter, Chelsea, will be put out in the streets.
As a vicar's daughter, Ann prays fervrently for a solution. Almost as a direct answer to her prayer, Julian enters both her home and her life, seeking to prove his lineage and title. Julian steals precious jewels and is arrested, while it is Ann who, by a series of coincidences, actually makes away with the jewels, gaining an answer to her prayer and obtaining a financial means to leave Graham's household.
Now Ann takes her GREEN EYES back to Ceylon to start tea farming, as she and her husband had planned. The problem that arises is that both Julian and Graham want her and the jewels back ... and they'll travel halfway around the world to get them.
This book has a wonderfully exciting conclusion, where native superstition and practices cause an unforeseeable, dangerous distraction.
This story is believable, extremely romantic and adventurous.
Green Eyes.......2000-04-17
At first, because this novel was set in the past I wasn't sure I would like it-BUT--the main male character was so much like most of the men I know today! He kept his feelings to himself and was always trying to protect "chicken" from any real or imagined harm! Even after a night and day of sex(and virginity loss),neither one knew where the other one stood! So many days of love were lost due to the fact that they both were afraid of getting hurt! Even though we are now in the year 2000, this still happens all the time with couples. While being an exciting and provocative read it also teaches a valuable lesson in love.
THE MOST PROVACATIVE, INTENSE ROMANCE NOVEL I HAVE EVER READ.......2000-01-27
OKAY, I WILL TELL YOU THE TRUTH PEOPLE, THIS IS MY VERY FIRST ROMANCE NOVEL. I'M REALLY NOT INTO ALL THAT LOVEY, MUSHY STUFF. BUT LET ME TELL YOU ALL, I GOT SO ENTRANCED IN THIS BOOK AS SOON AS I STARTED READING IT. IT STARTED GIVING ME CHILLS ALL OVER MY BODY. I WILL ADMIT, THE BOOK DOES HAVE A SEXUAL THEME, SO I REALLY WOULDN'T ADVISE KIDS TO READ THIS, BUT BOY OH BOY, IS THIS ONE HELL OF A BOOK. I GOT SO CAUGHT UP IN THE MAIN CHARACTERS. ANNA IS A BEAUTIFUL, STRONG WITHSTANDING YOUNG LADY WHO HAS BOTH PRIDE AND PASSION IN HER HEART. JULIAN, THE HANDSOME-HOT MALE CHARACTER IS SIMPLY THAT:HOTTTT! HE IS A DETERMINED, MASCULINE GO-GETTER WITH A MIND OF STONE BUT WITH A HEART OF SILK. I LOVE THEM BOTH. NOW THIS IS WHAT I CALL A FANTASTIC ROMANCE NOVEL. GREEN EYES WILL SURELY BE STORED IN MY BOOKSHELF FOR YEARS TO COME!

Customer Reviews:
Encouraging reading.......2007-07-16
A great book for early readers, Seuss explores concepts of reading and the value of reading with the usual sillyness that is throughout his books.
I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!.......2006-11-20
The thing I like about the book is that it encourages parent/child reading and conversation, and encourages the child to use his/her imagination. "Reading with eyes shut;" my child attempted it and then began to ask a million questions: How does the Cat in the Hat read anything with his eyes shut? Why can't i see the words with my eyes shut? Can YOU read with your eyes shut?
One of the lesser Dr. Seuss books.......2006-04-17
I'm a huge Dr. Seuss fan -- he taught me to read -- but this is, in all honesty, not one of his better books. The message is great (reading, yay!) but the delivery is weak. The artwork and the text are both a bit flat, and he seems to be straining to emulate the vibrant wackiness of his earlier work. There's nothing "wrong" with this book, but you may find yourself reading it, wondering why it just isn't as fun as it ought to be. It's okay, but there are better books out there, including a LOT of great ones he's written.
Against the go to sleep club.......2005-07-30
I'm way too old for beginner books but I read "I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!" anyway. It's good for young readers, but against the go to sleep club. It focuses on "Keep your eyes open so you can READ!" soooo much that it fights going to sleep. And what sense does "Reading with my eyes shut is bad for my hat and makes my eyebrows red hot!" make? They should say it's bad for your eyes but no, they say it's bad for your eyebrows and hat. And it would be terrible for Russian Blue Witch because she LOVES books toooooo much to pay attention to the world around her and help people. It would be better teaching going to sleep because I never let my sisters sleep, chattering stories all night. Signed, StoryMaker. "Gotta trust the kid's review!"
Pretty cute book.......2005-05-03
This book is probably good if you have a young reader wanting to read a simple book. But if you're reading it to a child before bedtime, it doesn't really tell much of a story. I know that sounds weird, but it just kinda gets annoying after awhile to some children and it doesn't really spark too much imagination. Yes, it does create conversation about why the cat goes through trying to read with his eyes shut, but really, it just isn't all that much fun for a child to read. I'd try something else first like Go Dog Go, or just check this one out of the library first before buying it. You may like it but my family didn't. It just was boring to them. They couldn't wait until I put it down and picked up another book!

Book Description
A seductive and exotic photo-essay, "Green Eyes, the Greenest Fields", combines great literary references with stunning photographs of people from Africa, Asia, South America, India, Europe, and America, who all share the common trait of "green". Unlike other eye colors, such as brown or blue, green eyes are a genetic roll of the dice, which can appear within each generation, or each hundredth generation, and represent not only our common ancestries due to commerce and cultural exchange, but also our kinship with the Earth itself. This book is a fabulous photographic work that will keep you coming back for more.

Pretty Green Eyes.......2003-01-04
I've always been fascinated by green eyes. They are so unique and pretty. A.K. Crump does a beautiful job of capturing these mesmerizing green eyes from every ethnic background. I don't know if there's any other book that captures green eyes, but this is a must-have if you have any interest in how captivating eyes can be.
I love this book!.......2003-01-03
The author obviously is both a researcher and an artist. I had no idea green eyes were so rare - I learned a great deal. I enjoyed the index which underscored the diversity of those with the gene. It shows how much alike we are no matter our ethnicity. The pictures were beautiful and interesting. I found myself staring at the subjects' eyes and feeling some connection with them as people. The poems were lovely and well-chosen, they added a great deal to the "experience" of the book. I highly recommend it!
Green with envy.......2003-01-03
My mother has green eyes and I have always been attracted to woman with green eyes and I believe the photographer has captured the allure of green eyes in his book. I enjoyed the quotes, poems and narration that are interspersed throughout the book. I also enjoyed the models that he used. One of the great things about this book is that instead of glamorous models, the photographer used everyday people allowing you to see the beauty of their green eyes which is what he book is all about. It is also refreshing to see the diversity of the subjects where you can truly see how green eyes can be seen in all ethnicities.
I have been giving this book as birthday presents to my friends with green eyes and they always say this is the best present. If you have green eyes or love someone with green eyes or are just a fan of green eyes, this is the book for you.
wow!.......2002-12-31
I really enjoyed seeing - and reading about - all those gorgeous green eyes and the interesting, racially diverse faces behind them. As someone with brown eyes - whose (almost entirely) extended family has the same - it is so refreshing to see all that color! Definitely buy this book for someone with green eyes - or for someone who wish he/she had them! They won't be disappointed!
Gotta Have Green Eyes.......2002-12-31
As a green-eyed wonder myself, I have to admit I was curious to see this book and enjoyed it immensely. As an Irish-American, the cultural diversity of the subjects demonstrated the photographer's commitment to really explore green eyes. I found the different photos of the same person a way to see them in different context and most importantly their eyes in different lights.
I've been surprised to learn that not many have green eyes (since having a son who looks like he may end up with greens).
Thanks to this book for making me love my green eyes even more!

Good book in the vitreo-retinal subspecialty.......2004-05-15
Has good in-dept discussion to the subspecialty. Compliments Ryans 3 volume Retina nicely. Very good pictures and the tables are nicely constructed. A must have for any general ophthalmologist with a keen interest in retina or any vitreo-retinal specialist.
Excellent comprehensive Retina Vitreous text.......1998-10-29
This two volume set covers medical and surgical retina. It has many fine color photographs and is written on a high level. It seems to fill some of the gaps left by the Ryan Retina series. Drug coverage seems up to date, and treatment recommendations are current

Not her best but still good........2003-11-26
This is my least favoite of Betsy Brannon Greens books but it was still a good book. The mystery was a bit confusing and the love story wasn't strong enough for me, but if you like a good book then read this one. Here is a condensed version of what the book is about. Helen Tyler comes into town on the night of a murder, she is running from her past. She starts working for the sherrif, Matt Clevenger, and finds herself helping to solve the murders. The ending was very surprising but a little confusing at times.
a great book!.......2003-08-03
I have enjoyed all of Betsy Brannon Green's books, and although this one is my least favorite, it is still a wonderful book. A serial killer is on the loose in a small southern town called Eureka, Georgia and the only clue they leave is a small white Bible beside each of the victim's beds. Helen Tyler comes into town and soon begins working for the sherrif, Matt Clevenger, and finds herself also involved with this confusing mystery. Together they work to uncover the identity of a killer and come closer and closer to the answers. The book had a very surprising ending and left me turning the pages for hours at a time. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy romantic mysteries. It is a great book!

Pournelle's `War World' Series.......2003-12-23
Jerry Pournelle, who was heavily influenced by the great H. Beam Piper and his Terro-Human Future History, devised his own future history that postulates the collapse of an interstellar empire into civil wars spanning centuries after the gene-engineered Sauron supermen decide to take over the mantle of civilization from the Empire of Man. The first book in the ``War World'' series introduces readers to Haven and for me the Poul Anderson story ``The Deserter'' is worth the price of admission. A very skillfully done story that really sets the stage for the death of the empire and how the planets and stars at the fringe are already feeling the pinch of interstellar trade being disrupted. ``The Toymaker'' is also a great short story here. Check this book out and I promise you that you won't be disappointed. A very good book here is followed by ``War World II: Death Head's Rebellion''
Part one of the vision.......2003-04-04
I feel that Jerry Pournelle had a great vision and wanted his vision put into sci-fi novels. This is book one of the whole series. This book was a good read and each story was written in thier own way by different authors. Honestly, I found some contridiction is the book but not enough to throw you off. I was surprise to find a story within the book written by Harry Turtledove. Now Harry Turtledove a known author, this must have be written before he became known. I wasn't excited by the book but if the book was written by one author I would of like it better. In my opinion, I feel that one author can truely project the true essence of a story.
War World v1, The Burning Eye.......1999-12-25
The first of many and a good read, J Pournelle was ahead of his time when he put together this book. Many of his and his coauthors stories and issues ring true today and fit well in the sci-fi genre. If you haven't read this one you need to to get the full flavor of the series

Customer Reviews:
Excellent writing, unrealistic resolution.......2007-07-09
As a fan of another of Oates young adult books, Big Mouth and Ugly Girl, I had high expectations for this one. The writing is superb, after all it is Joyce Carol Oates and the woman can write. I was somewhat disappointed in the plot. Essentially the book seems to me to be a meditation on what might have happened in the O.J. Simpson case. As far as that goes, it is a deep and textured reflection. It seemed to me the whole story was rather neatly wrapped up in the end, unlike in real life where there are still so many unanswered questions. Perhaps in young adult you can't leave things just hanging and all has to be neatly resolved. I think a young adult reader might be more satisfied with the conclusion and not as engaged by the psychologial journey to get there.
it's freakylicious!.......2006-11-22

That's how she got her nickname, Freaky. This book is filled with suspense and questions that will leave you hanging.

Freaky Green Eyes by Joyce Carol Oates.......2006-11-15
Freaky Green Eyes is the story of 15 year old Francesca Pierson, known as Franky by almost everybody she knows, but to herself she is known as Freaky Green Eyes. Freaky Green Eyes, Freaky for short is Franky's alter ego, a strong willed and tough teen, who can get Franky out of almost any difficult situation that erupts. Freaky knows the truth, yet she pretends not to know as Franky: she knows there is trouble in the family- her father has a bad temper that makes him abusive and controlling and no longer gets along with her mother. Freaky knows that her family is becoming dysfunctional with mom and dad living under one roof; she also knows that knowledge is power but as Franky, she doesn't want to believe what is happening to her family. Franky's mom moves to a cabin in Skagit Harbor, and when things could not get any worse, her mom suddenly disappears and her father is suspected. Franky then realizes she needs to be Freaky all the time if she wants to save herself and her little sister Samantha, after all Freaky is who Franky really is on the inside.
