4 out of 5 stars Lovely.......2007-03-01

This book perfectly captures what a time travel romance novel is supposed to do. The characters respond to the situation of traveling through time in a perfectly believeable manner. Great read and it never loses it's appeal.

4 out of 5 stars If you like this you'll LOVE Knight in Shining Armour.......2006-11-05

Was a very good read and I'm not usually that into time travel/sci fi romances. The hero was a little lacking intellectually but he made up for it with his loyalty and brawny manliness. I read the reviews here and someone recommended Knight in Shining Armour...I was reluctant but stuck with it and it turned out to be an epic. You will enjoy both.

5 out of 5 stars One of my favorites!.......2006-09-19

I absolutely loved everything about this book. It was interesting, it was action-filled, and it was romantic. After reading the summary on the back of the book, I thought that it was going to be corny and ridiculous, but I was pleasantly surprised! I loved the time traveling, and I adored Thor. I thought that he had lots of personality, and for once the male romantic hero of a JL book had no qualms about expressing his feelings. We only get one chapter from his point of view, and it's very near the beginning, but that's all we need. Just by his actions and the things he says to Roseleen, we get a clear picture of how he feels. A scene of notable mention is the shower scene! It was definitely a favorite of mine! Very sexy.

Overall, this was one of JL's best. I wouldn't say that it's as good as Angel or her best Malory books, but it certainly comes close. Excellent book.

Best quote: page 183: "It took every ounce of his will to keep from driving into her now and pummelling her with the strength of his passion."

Oh, man this was horrible. It took two attempts at reading it for me to actually finish the book. The heroine and hero are named (just try and say these together without laughing) Roseleen White and Thorn Blooddrinker. She gets ahold of a thousand-year-old sword called Bloddrinker's Curse. When a woman holds the sword, Thorn is ripped from Valhalla (where he hangs out with his brother, Thor) and must do her bidding.

The rules of the sword:
Until the woman releases Thorn, he has to do everything she says. He can't go back to Valhalla until she says he can. Once she has released him, though, he is in charge of himself and doesn't have to either obey her or leave. The sword gives Thorn the ability to travel through time, but only to places he's been before. And in order to time-travel, the woman must both go with Thorn and give the sword into his keeping (basically give up control over him), though she can make it a loan and thus retain overall control of the sword. The sword can't travel to the future beyond it's own present. The only way to release Thorn from his curse is for the woman to give him back his sword for good, but he is unable to bring this up -- she has to ask him about it.

Roseleen and Thorn go back in time to the battle of Hastings because Roseleen wants to ask William the Conqueror a bunch of questions for the book she's writing (she'll just use "No really, I was there" in the works cited, I'm sure), and hilarity ensues when they accidentally change history a few times. Things get fixed, she gives him back his sword, and everybody lives happily ever after in the twentieth century.

There was hardly any sex in this book, which is the only reason we read these things. Way, way too much bad plot. I say there were five sex scenes, but that's really just the number of times a chaper ended with them getting it on. The only real scene was the first one, where she loses her virginity with no pain or sticky mess whatsoever. Like any good virgin heroine who had been saving herself for marriage before being seduced, she immediately becomes a dirty little slut who can be distracted from every argument with sex. And there are arguments every few pages, either when Roseleen berates Thorn for being a medieval thug with oppressive views of women (while they're in the twentieth century), or when Thorn berates Roseleen for causing a scene and not acting like a proper medieval woman (while they're in the eleventh century).

2 out of 5 stars Requires the ability to suspend disbelief.......2006-05-30

Until Forever is the first time travel novel by Johanna Lindsey that I've read, and I found it disappointing to say the least. Roseleen and Thorn interact in much the same way as the characters in Jude Deveraux's A Knight In Shining Armour. The problem inherent in both these novels is that it's pretty hard to find a happy ending when the hero and heroine are living lives centuries apart. There's really no way for things to end well under those circumstances. Another problem is Thorn's chauvanistic attitude, though I can understand it somewhat as he is a Viking. It clashes incessantly with Roseleen's "woman of the 90's" persona, and I didn't for a second believe that she would put it aside--even for love. I was unable to suspend disbelief for long enough to enjoy this novel, but I'm glad that so many others were. Lindsey rarely disappoints me, but this is one of those times.

Book Description

Soviet socialism was based on paradoxes that were revealed by the peculiar experience of its collapse. To the people who lived in that system the collapse seemed both completely unexpected and completely unsurprising. At the moment of collapse it suddenly became obvious that Soviet life had always seemed simultaneously eternal and stagnating, vigorous and ailing, bleak and full of promise. Although these characteristics may appear mutually exclusive, in fact they were mutually constitutive. This book explores the paradoxes of Soviet life during the period of "late socialism" (1960s-1980s) through the eyes of the last Soviet generation.

Focusing on the major transformation of the 1950s at the level of discourse, ideology, language, and ritual, Alexei Yurchak traces the emergence of multiple unanticipated meanings, communities, relations, ideals, and pursuits that this transformation subsequently enabled. His historical, anthropological, and linguistic analysis draws on rich ethnographic material from Late Socialism and the post-Soviet period.

The model of Soviet socialism that emerges provides an alternative to binary accounts that describe that system as a dichotomy of official culture and unofficial culture, the state and the people, public self and private self, truth and lie--and ignore the crucial fact that, for many Soviet citizens, the fundamental values, ideals, and realities of socialism were genuinely important, although they routinely transgressed and reinterpreted the norms and rules of the socialist state.

5 out of 5 stars Performing admiration .......2006-03-21

The anthropological account of post-modern society offered in this book is certainly one of the best I encountered in recent years. By brilliantly and engagingly analyzing the late soviet society, the author provides us with original analytical insights into the peoples' relations with ideology, discourse and ritual. A perennial social laboratory for all kinds of cultural experiments, Russia in its soviet phase served A. Yurchak as an empirical field whereby to conceptualize the paradoxical, non-dichotomous and multi-layered post-modern social condition. Moreover, Yurchak joins the exclusive club of genial authors who succeeded in touching the intangible uniqueness of the "soviet experience" - i.e. everyday life, way of thinking, forms of language and power, performance of dream and fake. Thus, this reading is necessary for both the favorites of lively intellectual reading and for everyone who pretends to understand something about "Russians", even if they are already post-Soviet and therefore similar and close on the one hand, but different and inconceivable on the other.
As anthropologist and Russian by origin, I try, in my everyday experience, to explain to my colleagues and friends the world I came from and to show how relevant this world is to any cultural and intellectual account of contemporary life. Yurchak's book is a great contribution to this challenge.

5 out of 5 stars A remarkable book.......2006-02-03

This is a very good ethnographic account of some important aspects of everyday life in the later years of Soviet Union. It is interesting, well written, the quality of the research is high, and the account is truly enlightening. As a researcher actively interested in East European ethnography I woud very much like to recommend it to readers looking for interesting and non-banal accounts.

I purchased the book thinking it was an interracial romance but boy was I wrong.
So I sent it back without reading it once I realized I had been duped by the cover so needless to say I won't make another book purchase from this author ever again.
Noone wants to read a storyline with a vague description about the hero just because the author was too worried about her bottom line verses her building a good following of readers.
I'll stick with the followings authors Bridget Midway/Crystal Bright, Marilyn Lee, J.M. Jeffries, L.A. Banks, Dyanne Davis,J.J. Murray,Stephanie Burke,Octavia Butler,K.R. Wilson,Rosylyn Hardy Holcomb,Dominiqua Douglas and Adrienne Kama just to name a few of my favorite authors when it comes to strong women and men that aren't afraid of interracial genres.

5 out of 5 stars "...A great romantic story that will tug at the hearts of readers.".......2006-12-20

"Now Until Forever is a great romantic story that will tug at the hearts of readers."

"Ryan Mitchell became a widow after the death of her husband Galen. It's been three years now and she is beginning to put her life back together again."

"Ryan is hired as a set designer at One Leaf Studios owned by Keir Southhall. He is recently divorced and the father of two children, Adam and Emily. Immediately an attraction develops between the two. They agree to take their relationship slow, but before long Ryan's career becomes a concern as well as falling for a man who has a ready made family."

"An incident occurs that causes Ryan to question if her relationship with Keir is causing problems for his children.

Past hurts, jealousy and mean spirits come to play in this terrific story that realistically portrays the upside and downside of finding new love."

"Karen White-Owens does an excellent job illustrating that the road to love and happiness may not be a straight path, sometimes there are twist and turns along the way."

5 out of 5 stars love at first sight .......2006-12-09

In Los Angeles, One Leaf Studio Executive Keir Southall feels like a teen in heat when he first sees the woman walk by. He never felt his gut as tight as when he sees her smile for the first time. Keir wants that smile aimed at him. He learns she is a recently widowed highly regarded costume and set designer Ryan Mitchell, who just came under their studio's contract. Keir introduces himself to Mrs. Ryan Mitchell, who feels the same deep attraction that has the executive thinking raging hormones.

Once he learns she is a widow, he wants an office romance with her, but she fears such a relationship will devastate her career as she will be labeled as a unprofessional whore. Still they cannot help but flirt with one another while their magnetic pull ignites into passion and ultimately love. However, his son from his former wife gets into a fight over Ryan's relationship with his dad leading to her reconsidering their relationship as she does not want the young man hurt.

Readers can feel from the onset the attraction from a distance between the lead couple even before they actually meet; that pull seems so real that the audience will believe in love at first sight and root for Keir and Ryan to find a way to be together. The support cast serves as deterrents to the relationship. Fans of contemporary romances will want to read this charmer as the feelings between Keir and Ryan are incredible, something to behold.

Rather than honor that, he died in his mistress's arms and, through some evil machinations, Mariota was branded his murderess. So Mariota took to Cuidrach Castle with a little white lie to keep her location a secret. But Kenneth is unlike any nobleman Mariota has ever encountered...Before long, this man who craved solitude will discover a desire he never thought possible for the stunning and spirited woman. 5 out of 5 stars Another EXCELLENT Welfonder Book.......2007-04-08

She just keeps getting better. Her Scottish tales keep me enthralled from page one to the end. Wish I could rate her books higher as they are so very excellent as Ms Welfonder is so very talented in her way of writing.
You can tell that her heart & soul are deeply entrenched in Scotlands misty moors & heather in the highlands.

4 out of 5 stars Knight is a winner.......2006-08-11

I have read and enjoyed all of Ms Welfonder's books. Until the Knight Comes is no exception. The characters and story line are well developed, richly detailed and the atmosphere created by the writer draws you into the story. Ms Welfonder does extensive research for her books and it shows in all the small details that make the story come alive. I always know that a Sue-Ellen Welfonder book will be worth the price and will transport me to ancient Scotland for hours of enjoyable reading.

5 out of 5 stars The Best of Summer Reads.......2006-07-14

I've read several medieval romances this summer, and Until the Knight Comes has been my favorite. Sir Kenneth MacKenzie is a marvelously fierce knight. Lady Mariota MacNichol both fiery and passionate. This story was engaging and sensual and wonderfully romantic.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Talent!.......2006-07-14

Ms. Welfonder hooked me from the first page. Captivating, steamy, utterly breathtaking, she brings the Highlands to life with her impassioned stories. A very memorable and recommended read.

4 out of 5 stars 3-1/2* Lovely Medieval Romance.......2006-07-09

Once again Welfonder returns the reader to her beloved medieval Scotland to give her fans a dose of romance and intrigue amongst the heather, lochs and crags of the land and people she clearly loves.

Lady Mariota Macnicol defied her family to become the lover of Hugh Aleson, Bastard of Drumodyn thinking he loved her and would take her to wife. Instead, he lived right up to his name the moment Mariota discovered him fornicating with the local alewife. So shocked at being discovered Hugh died of a heart attack, but the alewife so angered at losing a hefty source of income, stole the stunned Mariota's dirk, plunging it into Hugh's chest and escaped while Mariota was found and accused of killing the liege lord of the castle.

Imprisoned in the dungeon, Mariota was rescued by her companion Nessa and they escaped to the vacant ruin of Castle Cuidrach. Unfortunately, for the two women the newly made knight, Sir Kenneth MacKenzie has just arrived to take possession of his inheritance. Mariota boldly claims she is the lady of the keep awaiting her husband but quickly changes her story when Kenneth informs her -- the keep in now his. Both have vowed to never love again, but chemistry and the meddling Devorgilla of Doon would soon be working her magic to have them both singing a new tune and to help them face the danger of besting those who sought to tear them apart.

*** This was a bit slower in pace than Welfonder's previous titles but resonates clearly this authors love of Scotland through the vivid imagery of her prose. I also found the suspense and intrigue to be a tad bit less developed in this and focused more on the character development of both Kenneth and Mariota and their burgeoning romance. Lady Mariota, was ashamed of her affair with the knave Hugh and to have witnessed his betrayal of her in the most shocking manner after going against her beloved family to be with him was a tremendous burden to carry. Kenneth lived with the stigma of his bastard lineage and had always steered clear of `fallen women'. These were two wounded souls whose physical attraction to another disguised the `love' that neither cared to admit to. Secondary characters were all colorfully brought to life and I was thrilled to see Devorgilla reappearing to add that delightful bit of magic I've found to be immensely satisfying in this series. Jamie "the Small" was a darling and I certainly hope to see more of him in future offerings. Well written, nicely sensual love scenes combined with a sweet ending that will melt your heart and mist your eyes are all in store for the reader.

A Review by Barbara J. Robinson of Forever Until we Meet by Vicki M. Taylor

From the mountains of Wyoming to the sunshine of Florida, Taylor spins a web of excitement through the journey of a man and woman, James and Patricia, who meet via the computer and the Internet. This book is a must read for women who seek love and companionship over electronic lines, a tale of a woman who didn't give up on love though each time she laid her heart on the line, it meant more pain and heartbreak. Finally,
refusing to give up on love and knowing that she was a better person than the shallow James who would spend his life looking for a woman who didn't exist, "the perfect woman," who existed only in his mind and always would, Patricia finds true love just
when she vows to be herself and enjoy life to its fullest. Ironically, she does meet her fate and destiny head on when her heart takes wings back to Wyoming, ironically, on April 4,
the same day she was supposed to have met James for the first time, but she gives up on James realizing that sadly he is the one who is losing and will never have a full, complete
life, a real true love because he is unable to get past "the perfect woman" his mind has created who is nothing more than a fairy tale which will never come true. James is the
true loser in this tale because he is destined to a life of disappointment while he plays out his fun and games of chasing his illusion over the Internet, a game of chase he will never
win. However, Patricia prefers a man of depth and reality to a shallow fairy-tale version of the man she thought was the man of her dreams. Giving up her fairy tale, she discovers
a man of solid depth with whom she is truly compatible while James is right back on the Internet searching for a woman who doesn't even exist, except in his mind, and finding
another victim of love in another lonely woman seeking her dream man through the Internet. For, Patricia sees that he wastes no time in chasing his next illusion at an even
faster pace than he did with her. After all, time will run out for James as his Internet fantasy and games catch up with him, while time marches on for Patricia, time worth living
in the real world where strong women such as Patricia never give up on making their dreams come true. Taylor has captured the Internet Romeo in James and the many lonely
women seeking true love and companionship in Patricia. This book could be the book that makes a difference for you if you are one of those lonely women, so don't miss life's
lessons on love so cleverly woven in this tale of romantic suspense which has the reader sitting on the edge of her seat wondering if this romance will make it, a book the reader
won't want to put down until she finds just how the story ends. For you men out there, if you are an Internet Romeo, you might not want to pass this book up because you just
might find yourselves learning some lessons from dear old James which could prove valuable tools during your Internet fantasies of fairy tales. Ironically, James offers to bring
Patricia to Disneyland, a place where fairy tales are supposed to come true, but Patricia's shoe didn't fit. Order your personalized, autographed copy of Forever Until we Meet

4 out of 5 stars Finished in one sitting................2002-04-01

Very possibly I would not have been as interested in this book, if its subject matter were not so salient to my own circumstances of trying to find my way through an online relationship. Vicki's book had me weeping copiously by page 10, so clearly did she convey the love between the main character, Patricia, and her husband of 10 years; so much did the story touch all the tenderest feelings I have experienced towards my own online dear one. Through the whole of Patricia's journey, I was amazed at how closely her voyage paralleled my own: the words, the feelings, the circumstances could almost have been mine. Vicki even throws in some unexpected humor which had me roaring! But it's the ending, the unexpected ending, which was so abrupt as to make me read it over a few times to make sure I didn't miss anything. You don't want to miss it, either.

4 out of 5 stars An Entertaining Read.......2002-01-26

This book is about a middle-age woman finding romance via the Internet. The characters are believable and likeable, and drew me right into the story. The writer's lively style kept me turning the pages. I loved the story but also enjoyed the format of the book, which includes e-mail messages. I recommend this book to anyone who loves reading realistic fiction and romance.

5 out of 5 stars A must have in today's virtual reality world.......2002-01-17

'Forever Until We Meet' by Vicki M. Taylor is one of those rare stories that captures the heart, soul and imagination of the reader from the very first page. It is one of those stories that you just want to keep going and going - even after the last page has been reached.

Patricia Martin has reached that time in her life that is so commonly called by that tired old cliché, `empty nest syndrome'. Although in Patricia's case, the nest had existed of only herself and her daughter; the husband and father had exited himself from their lives long ago. Patricia was ready for something new, to move on with her life, to have a life of her own after so many years of devoted attention to her daughter. Not that she regretted giving her life over to raising her daughter - but wasn't this the perfect time to begin a life of her own? Patricia turned to the computer that her daughter had purchased for her and the world of virtual reality to begin the journey of her new life.

James Campbell was searching for something; something that perhaps existed only in his mind - not something that was attainable in the real world. His self esteem was at its lowest; his wife had left him - and not for another man either. His wife had left him for another woman. James turned to the computer and the Message Boards of the cyber world to begin his pursuit of the `unattainable' and to build up his low self esteem.

Patricia and James meet in cyberspace at the "Anyone 40ish" Message Board. This is their story as told in their messages to each other. Come read along as their relationship escalates and grows - into love.

'Forever Until We Meet' is a must read. It is so very pertinent to today's world of cyberspace, virtual reality - and instant messaging. It will go to the very top of my most beloved books. Thank you, Vicki M. Taylor, for creating such a wonderful story as you did in 'Forever Until We Meet'.

            Book Description

That doesn't justify the actions I have committed, but in time, you will find reason to understand why I had to. I wake up every day searching for a mythological perfection that may not even exist. The hardest perfection is staring in a mirror, glancing into eyes that see a shattered soul from years of negative existence. I cannot expect you to understand what goes through my head; I cannot expect you to see that lost little kid that lives inside—who I hide from most of all. I regret waking up every day, because in my heart, I'll never be able to just fade away from the life that I have come to know. The hardest thing I have ever faced is the art of scripting my self-destruction. I have heard that when you become a fearless person it equals the dying of a tortured soul; in reality, the art to caring with a big heart is the sharply pointed knife that is the strongest of all—the one that will kill what you have left. Many people have stated that one comes with two births in a lifetime.
