Terrific.......2007-08-06
Club Dead is an entincing novel in the Southern Vampire series. Truly Original! Sookie goes down to Jackson to find her vampire boyfriend Bill who has disappeared and she bleieves it was by force. With help from a studly werewolf, Alcide and from the rest of her vampire friends, Sookie is determined to bring Bill home. But there are many obstacles in her way, including Bill's vampire master. Sookie puts everything she has on the line to save Bill, but will it be enough?
Sookie's first vamp job........2007-07-18
Sookie's vampire friends basically rented her out to another group of vampires to find a vampire that disappeared. Sookie gets to develope her telepathic powers by reading the minds of the human employees of the vampires in Dallas. Sookie's detective work leads her right into the heart of a religous cult that has it in for vampires. She gets captured but to find out how she gets out of it please read the book. I like it and so will you.
Sookie Steps It Up.......2007-06-28
The third installment of Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire series, Club Dead, finds our Sookie facing more danger in her life with the vampires, but this time she's doing it with a broken heart. Bill, her vampire boyfriend, has suddenly taken off, reportedly with his former lover, the vampire Lorena. Bill's boss, Eric, is worried enough about Bill (and a secret project Bill's been working on), that he taps Sookie's expertise in mind-reading to help locate him when it seems that Bill may be actually be really, truly dead, or at least missing.
This episode of Sookie's life among the undead is action-packed, and we are introduced to the handsome werewolf Alcide, who is assigned to assist Sookie in her quest to find the faithless Bill. A new side of Sookie emerges in this book; though her heart is broken, she finds that she is strong enough to pursue the leads to Bill's whereabouts and even take on his erstwhile lover. There is quite a bit of violence in this novel, and things do not get sewn up neatly for Sookie, but she does learn something about herself in the process.
I quite enjoyed this installment. Sookie's rise in self-confidence is stirring, and the introduction of Alcide is quite nice as well. Eric is, as always, funny and sexy; Sookie must decide what her next move will be, and if she has the courage to turn her back on the vampire society altogether. Well written, and good fun! On to the next in the series.
BEST ONE YET...............2007-06-13
The third and thus far best in the Sookie Series sees our spunky little heroine becoming slightly disillusioned with her vampire boyfriend, Bill. Lately he's seemed more interested in his secret "work" than in her...and to add insult to injury, he is leaving town on a secret "work" mission. Sookie is furious...and even more so when she is informed by Eric and Pam that Bill has become involved with his ex-love Lorena....who also happens to be the vamp who "made" Bill. But Bill has since gone missing...and who better to found out where he is but innocent little mind-reading Sookie? So Eric sends Sookie out to find Bill...undercover as the girlfriend of a Were name Alcide from the town of nearby Hotshot. Eventually it becomes clear that Bill may be in the fight of his undead life....but can Sookie save him before it's too late? Even more importantly, will she succeed in fighting ever-growing feelings for the attentive and attractive Alcide? But more frightening still...how long can she ignore the amorous overtures of the gorgeous Eric, a powerful vampire who also happens to be Bill's boss? Most importantly....how long will she want to?
Another engaging, pageturning installment of our southern vampire series. This one is my favorite thus far...too bad we can only give it 5 stars!!!

Disposing of the Physical Remains.......2007-06-04
Club Dead (2003) is the third Rural Fantasy in the Southern Vampire series, following Living Dead in Dallas. In the previous volume, the maenad didn't leave any survivors on the deck except Tara. Eric and Bill set fire to the beach house to cover the deaths. Portia took her brother Andy home, Sam took Tara and Eggs back with him, and Eric returned to Shreveport. Then Bill and Sookie also left and Callisto wandered off to who knows where.
In this novel, Bill Compton leaves town after hiding his database files and computer system in Sookie Stackhouse's closet. He tells Sookie that he is going to Seattle, but she knows that he is lying. Then Bubba shows up sitting on her front porch swing.
Bubba says that Eric has sent him to guard her, but doesn't know why. Sookie is on her way to work, but decides that Bubba can't go into the bar area; after all, he is too well known to just sit at a table. Bubba refuses to stay in the car in the back parking lot since he couldn't know when she is threatened. They finally agree that Bubba can sit in the office while Sookie is working.
As Sookie goes into the building to get Sam's permission, a Were gang member grabs her and then Bubba crushes his throat. After a bit of confusion involving Kevin -- a local cop -- Sookie, Sam and Bubba clean up the area and stash the body out of sight. Then Pam shows up later asking about Bubba.
In this story, Sookie learns that Bill has gone to Jackson after being summoned by Lorena, his master. He had called Fangtasia the previous night stating that he was coming back to Bon Temps to take care of some business, but he had never arrived. Eric has learned something about Bill's whereabouts from paid informants, but he can't just go searching for Bill since Mississippi is outside his jurisdiction. Indeed, it is a separate Vampire Kingdom.
Sookie can't read vampire minds, but she can go listen to the human minds in the Mississippi Kingdom. Eric has arranged for a Were named Alcide Herveaux to take her to Jackson and to provide an apartment. Alcide will also escort her in Josephine's, a vampire bar that caters to other supernaturals as well. The Weres, however, call the bar Club Dead.
Sookie is really hurting in this story. Bill has lied to her and then went to another woman. Even if this woman had brought him over, most vampires go their separate ways after the first few decades. Why did Bill go to Mississippi?
This story introduces Debbie Pelt, a shapeshifter who had been dating Alcide, but had recently left him for another shifter. But Debbie doesn't like other women in Alcide's life. She is a vixen in more than one respect.
Sookie also meets Janice Herveaux Phillips -- Alcide's sister -- whom she likes very much. Janice owns a hair salon and insists that Sookie have her hair and nails done properly for Josephine's ambiance. Sookie has never even been in a hair salon before this and really enjoys the experience. She even gets to repeat the experience the next day.
Sookie has problems with the Jackson Weres. The Were who had attacked her in Merlotte's Bar had been from Jackson. Then Jerry Falcon, another member of the same Were gang, accosted her in Josephine's and was forcibly removed. Jerry's body later showed up in Sookie's apartment in Jackson.
Highly recommended for Harris fans and for anyone else who enjoys murder mysteries with vampires, werewolves and other preternatural creatures.

The only person who gets called Ballardesque more often than Chuck Palahniuk is, well... J.G. Ballard. So, does Portland, Oregon's "torchbearer for the nihilistic generation" deserve that kind of treatment? Yes and no. There is a resemblance between Fight Club and works such as Crash and Cocaine Nights in that both see the innocuous mundanities of everyday life as nothing more than the severely loosened cap on a seething underworld cauldron of unchecked impulse and social atrocity. Welcome to the present-day U.S. of A. As Ballard's characters get their jollies from staging automobile accidents, Palahniuk's yuppies unwind from a day at the office by organizing bloodsport rings and selling soap to fund anarchist overthrows. Let's just say that neither of these guys are going to be called in to do a Full House script rewrite any time soon.
But while the ingredients are the same, Ballard and Palahniuk bake at completely different temperatures. Unlike his British counterpart, who tends to cast his American protagonists in a chilly light, holding them close enough to dissect but far enough away to eliminate any possibility of kinship, Palahniuk isn't happy unless he's first-person front and center, completely entangled in the whole sordid mess. An intensely psychological novel that never runs the risk of becoming clinical, Fight Club is about both the dangers of loyalty and the dreaded weight of leadership, the desire to band together and the compulsion to head for the hills. In short, it's about the pride and horror of being an American, rendered in lethally swift prose. Fight Club's protagonist might occasionally become foggy about who he truly is (you'll see what I mean), but one thing is for certain: you're not likely to forget the book's author. Never mind Ballardesque. Palahniukian here we come! --Bob Michaels
Book Description
An underground classic since its first publication in 1996, Fight Club is now recognized as one of the most original and provocative novels published in this decade. Chuck Palahniuk's darkly funny first novel tells the story of a godforsaken young man who discovers that his rage at living in a world filled with failure and lies cannot be pacified by an empty consumer culture. Relief for him and his disenfranchised peers comes in the form of secret after-hours boxing matches held in the basements of bars. Fight Club is the brainchild of Tyler Durden, who thinks he has found a way for himself and his friends to live beyond their confining and stultifying lives. But in Tyler's world there are no rules, no limits, no brakes.

Awesome!.......2007-09-06
The movie, amazing;
the book, a masterpiece;
after reading the book, you see what the movie was trying to do,
granted i think the movie did a good job, but the book was amazing, there's so much more detail, it has more of the love story element that the movie left out, it's has so much more of a grunge feel and it really makes you think;
it ends differently than the movie, and i'm not sure which ending i like better, but i love them both.
if you're a Chuck fan or a Fight Club fan, get this book.
s'all i have to say
Groundbreaking.......2007-08-16
Fight Club is an amazing book. It's very short and easy to read-- actually, I don't think you "read" Fight Club. I think you.. inhale it. If that makes any sense. Combine Nietzsche with designer drugs (a lot of designer drugs), and you have Fight Club. Reading it is an incredible experience; you feel as if you're part of something bigger than yourself, something revolutionary. After reading it, you just might feel the urge to go out and buy yourself all of the required items, and then try to locate the house on Paper Street so you can join Tyler's army.
Go. Read it, and you too can be a part of the Revolution.
the most quotable book ever.......2007-07-17
there are those who have read it and there are those who aren't worth talking to.
Better than the movie.......2007-06-27
Let me start by saying that Fight Club is one of my favorite movies, but I had never read the book. Chuck Palahniuk is an amazing writer- especially considering that this is his first novel. While it is very similar to the movie, I still found it very enjoyable despite the fact that obviously you know what is going to happen. I loved this book and just went and bought two more by Palahniuk.
Quick Read........2007-06-26
You just can not put this book down. It's amazing. The movie spoiled it for me a bit but not that much. The only dilemma was in knowing the movie's ending. If you watch that ending and read this one's then you'll be a bit disappointed. Chuck himself even claimed the movie's ending was better.
I love this book though. It's great.

Book Description
In this sharp-witted romantic comedy about the clash of the classes (of all kinds), a poor girl at a rich kids' school ends up working at the school's toniest club-and gets mistaken for a boy!
In this high anticipated title, a kind of cross between HANA-KIMI and BOYS OVER FLOWERS, Haruhi is a scholarship student at an exclusive private school: Ouran High School, where it turns out the bespectacled, short-haired Haruhi is the only student from a lower-middle class family in attendance!
Then, to make matters worse, one day she breaks an $80,000 vase that belongs to one of the campus clubs-a mysterious outfit called the "Host Club," consisting of six superrich (and gorgeous) guys. Haruhi can't afford to pay back the cost of the vase, of course, so she's forced to work for the Host Club! And it's there that she discovers just how rich all the boys are and how different the rich are from you and me...And meanwhile, the eccentric but good-hearted rich boys are shocked to find out how life is on the other side...

Very Entertaining.......2007-09-26
After watching the anime version of this I just had to check out the manga. They follow very closely but the slight differences is what make them both worth watching/reading. This particular volume was very entertaining which I recommend to anyone who enjoys a lighthearted read and of course comedy.
More Ouran Goodness!.......2007-09-16
The Ouran High School Host Club manga, I'm pleased to say, is as wonderful and laugh-out-loud funny as the anime. I'm eagerly collecting the volumes as they are published in English now, and though some storyline details have been changed slightly, I recognize plot lines that were used in anime episodes that I have watched. I love this series.
<3 If you like comedy and parodies of cliches and you haven't tried this already, you should!
An easy 5 stars ^^........2007-08-08
I admit, I had my hesitations when my friend first asked me to watch the anime version of Ouran High School Host Club--but after seeing just 10 minutes of it, I was hooked!
Next time I took a trip to the local bookstore, I grabbed the first two volumes of the manga, and eagerly devoured them in one sitting.
I'm not a serious manga/anime fan, but Ouran just might convince me otherwise It's absolutely hilarious--it makes me laugh every time I read it :). The plotlines are pleasantly silly, but there are a few serious moments--these are sometimes brought back to earth with a gag, but are still believable. The characters are all fantastic; so much so that I have a really hard time deciding who's my favorite, and the books are so dense that they last a long time, and can be re-read--and you'll always find one little gag that you missed, or something you didn't notice.
A couple of people have complained about the layouts and artwork, but I got used to these very quickly, and now actually prefer Hatori's artwork to the other styles I've seen.
Overall, a brilliant and thoroughly enjoyable series.
Ouran high school host club .......2007-07-20
if you don't understand the culture of the host clubs this book my take some getting use to. the main idia of a host club is to ditract from the real world. it plays on girls (or boys) love of fanticy even if it has no conection to the real world.
this book is a litterary host club. it is full of outrageus people, imposible stuations, and a slightly loopy of the exseptionaly rich.
the story follows the commpleetly down to eath Hirohi. Hirohi is a poor scholorship studant who doesn't even resister on the social radar of her new shcool. Ouran is full of the discustingly rich. many of the students have been engaed since preschool. briking into even the mainstream is impossible.
Then Hirohi, who looks like a boy due to stainded of resorces and a stiky incounter with gum, enters the host club while looking for a place to study (studying being her main love) and nocks into an expencive vase. to pay off her debts she is blackmailed into working in the host club. it takes a while for everyone to discover her gender. though she seems to be exploted by the host club she is suddenly part of the most eleit soicety of the msot elite school. from that vatage point she obsever skeaming twins, the worlds biggest flirt, a cake loveing lolitta (alian?) and hsi protector and well as the most greedy evil mastermind ever to flit with girls.
A Few Minor Points.......2007-06-26
First, the proper term is "reverse harem". Second, Haruhi ends up working for the Host Club as a host, because they think she's a guy. Wen they do find out that she's a girl, she still gets to work as a host. The entire series is a charming romantic comedy with some very touching moments.

Customer Reviews:
Strange raw love story.......2007-10-11
What surprised me about this book is how emotionally raw and downright sweet it was. I read this expecting some crazy out there humorous horror story and what I found was something more akin to a surreal anime love story. The main character has a really weird girlfriend with a ghost living "down there" as described in the title. I like that the other reviewer mentioned Being John Malkovich, I think he was right on with that. Something really strange happens and the boyfriend ends up exploring the haunted world and has a wonderful little adventure. This book was totally not what I expected, it was charming and sweet and had me totally absorbed. I am going to have my girlfriend read this!
"To her, I was just a stuffed animal with a heartbeat.".......2007-09-29
On the page after the one-line author's note, there's a quote from Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), which is quite suiting to the story. As in Being John Malkovich, The Haunted Vagina features a passage of sorts that leads to another world. It's also a love story, and like the protagonists in the formerly mentioned films, Steve of The Haunted Vagina initially comes across as shy, passive, and a bit awkward. This isn't the only CM3 book featuring such a character, and it isn't the only one with a domineering female either, but here he really hits the mark with both. In fact, the hyper-sexual/surreal content functions so harmoniously with the characters that they feel more fleshed out than in most 100 page books not just by Mellick, but by anyone.
Be warned, The Haunted Vagina is a strange little book. While it's heavy on sexual content, not once does it feel gratuitous. I would also venture to say that even when the lunacy kicks in full throttle, it remains firmly rooted in a very human story. Still, if you've never been exposed to Bataille, De Sade, or bizarro writers like Mellick, this might feel pornographic, as it did to someone who I gave the book to. Otherwise, crawl right into this hauntingly charming tale for an evening. It's dinner on me if you don't find yourself changed by the end.
Be a good boy and play with your clay or no dessert........2007-08-19
What we have here is another excellent work by Carlton Mellick III.
It's a love story that takes place (mostly) in the strange, haunted world of a vagina. It's not as crude as you'd think by reading the title. That's the brilliance of CM3. The title and concept just DRAWS you in. You think you might be getting a sleazy romp but instead you get a tight, bizarro, love story.
Fair enough. It's not a complete love story.. It's not a corny, tear-jerker. But, as another reviewer mentioned, it has great characterization of the main character. You really get to experience his feelings about the whole situation and emphasize with him many times. When he gets screwed over (so to speak) you really feel like you've been screwed over.
The imagery is vivid, too. In my opinion, that's key to a successful bizarro story. The only reason why I've given it only 4 stars is that I felt it could have benefited from a few more pages. Maybe that's just my attraction to the haunted world.. I really wanted to know a little more about things and perhaps see more interactions with the beings that reside there. That's just me, of course. Others may disagree. This should not, however, deter you from buying this book.
The humor in this book (and in other works by Mellick) is not intended as a "Hey, look, I'm funny!" type of thing. It's the hilarity of bad situations, of embarrassing moments, of uncomfortable realities.
Anyway, if you enjoy Mellick's work already, then you won't be disappointed. If you've never read anything by him.. [...].
Aren't all vaginas haunted?.......2007-07-05
The Haunted Vagina by Carlton Mellick III is a charming novella with and surprisingly sweet and romantic. The story involves a guy who finds out his girlfriend's vagina is inhabited by a ghost. She convinces him to investigate it and he finds that by some magic he's able to actually climb completely inside her into a ghost world inhabited by creatures who are not unlike japanese anime characters. As the story continues, his love for his girlfriend is tested by his intrigue with the strange and beautiful world he finds inside of her.
This story is surreal and magical. It is also funny, poignant and endearing. When my boyfriend saw this book sitting on my nightstand he grinned and said "Aren't all vaginas haunted?". I recommend you check this one out for yourself.
good short story.......2007-01-26
The story comes together just right. The characters are introduce. The mystery keeps you occupied. The story finishes. And, you realize that you just finished a good story.

Sexy!.......2007-01-04
THE HAREM contains four erotic romance novellas and each story has its own twist on the Harem theme. "The Secret Door" by Noelle Mack has a slight paranormal element where the heroine--a lonely odalisque--unveils a hidden garden overseen by a mysterious golden-hued man.
In "The Pleasure Garden" by Emma Leigh, the shipwrecked heroine finds herself at the mercy of a handsome Englishman who must teach her the ways of Tao lovemaking in order to prepare her for the emperor.
In "East Meets West" by Celia May Hart, the half-Indian, half-English heroine has been trained in the erotic arts in preparation for the Maharajah. Escorted by a charismatic lieutenant neither one can deny their overwhelming passion.
Author Melissa MacNeal takes a slightly different approach with the Harem theme in "A Lady's Pleasure." Recently widowed Ophelia Leeds discovers that her late husband captained an elaborate ship fashioned to entertain all his wealthy friends' sexual desires. Intrigued by the escapades detailed in a hidden journal, Ophelia sets out to make a Harem of her own.
Each story revolves around a theme of forbidden passion, but my personal favorite is MacNeal's "A Lady's Pleasure." Sexy and fun this novella lightens up the mood and still makes you squirm in your seat.

Firemen who are hotter than fire!!!.......2007-02-06
This review is for All Fired Up by P.J. Mellor which I thoroughly enjoyed.
When Nick Howard transfers from Houston to become Chief of the fire department of a small Texas town, he's looking forward to some peace and quiet. But his first day he meets Tricia "Hurricane" Lundsford, a local girl who has returned to town after 10 years away, and the sparks fly--literally. Tricia's reputation as a Calamity Jane isn't underserved as Nick learns when, in the throes of passion, she sets her apartment on fire. Needless to say, the new Chief makes quite an impression on his men when they appear to put the fire out. Tricia's been the town's primary source of gossip before and now that she's back she's determined to stay under the radar. But she can't resist the sexy Fire Chief, with very public and volatile consequences.
"All Fired Up" is an entertaining and very sexy novella. Nick is handsome, strong and charming, but he doesn't understand the lack of privacy in a small town. Tricia is cute and quirky and well aware the town is watching for her to screw up again. And when she does, the results are laugh-out-loud funny. P. J. Mellor once again balances lots of steamy sex with a hardly dose of humor and a sweet happily-ever-after. A great read for fans of erotic romance.

Customer Reviews:
dumb.......2005-10-04
the story is just plain dumb. the ending is dumb. however, the scenes do get steamy.
Disappointing.......2005-08-24
I am an avid reader of erotic novels, and I found this one rather poorly paced and the characters somewhat two dimentional. Everything was just too easy (no pun intented) for Jenna and the ending, as another reviewer pointed out, was poor and a bit of a let down. I admit I had trouble finishing the book. Have a main character in the fantasy fulfillment business is one thing - making her a prostitute is another. As this was my first book by Ms. Lloyd, I doubt I will read another
Book Description.......2005-07-09
Small-town girl Jenna flees the safety of her hometown, Seneca Falls, and with it, her boyfriend and twin sister Marcy. She ends up in New York City, where she bunks with an old friend from college, Chloe.
Jenna quickly embraces the never-ending party scene and becomes involved in a series of scorching sexual liaisons that lead her and Chloe to decide that they just may have found a great way to make money: The girls start a club that caters to men's fantasies. It isn't long before Chloe's brownstone gets transformed into the Eros Hotel, and Jenna and Chloe become wealthy beyond their wildest expectations. But eventually the excitement grows dim and Jenna must decide between financial prosperity and the emotional comforts of her old life.
Decent Storyline, Bad Ending.......2005-01-20
I have Ms. Lloyd's first two books and consider her to be a very descriptive author. Her writing is not for the weak of heart, but for those who are brave enough to venture into her works, it will make your pulse race and will open up many opportunities for the bedroom (if you let it). I enjoyed the storyline and many of the sex scenes. The characters were semi-believable, but the ending was too open. With all the effort that was set into the story itself, the ending should have reflected that. I will continue to read her novels, but hopefully she will revert back to her previous writing style and close the novels more definitively.

This is a great read by Joan. It's a "can't put it down" read. Erotica at its best.
