Great first-hand account into ib.......2007-09-21
This book was an entertaining way to look into the world of ib. After being in ib for quite a while and hearing about this book left and right, I finally had the time to pick it up and read through it. It is right on the money with each of the topics. This book is a must read for anyone thinking of working in investment banking or Wall Street in general.
It's "Business" for Excel Monkeys.......2007-08-24
The numerous other reviewers have already done this work by Rolfe and Troob justice with their detailed and colorful comments and elaborations. So I'll make mine short -- JUST DO IT. Definitely read this book if you are in the trade. It's entertaining and educational. Plus, it makes a cross-country business trip plane ride go much faster.
Raw but Intelligent.......2007-07-10
This is the most "unveiling" book about associate life in investment banking (in equities at least) I've come across and I think holds its own on a Liar's Poker level. It's not low level humor, just highly witty and raw; and well written. You will laugh at loud, yes even you stoic business-types.
If you're thinking about I-banking, I'd recommend this, especially if you believe the myth of cigars, caviar and high-life escapades. MB, with some colorful descriptions, tells it like it is.
I agree with the counter claims made by some bankers in the comments section, and believe MB shouldn't discourage anyone. Any high level professional has to pay dues, the associate years at a bank is analogous to the residency years of a surgeon. Yes you're going to get destroyed, but that's the rite of passage.
Good luck to all the eager bankers out there. Read and enjoy.
Awesome, funny, and useful.......2007-06-19
I finished this book the second time I picked it up because it is absolutely hilarious. A great book, with very funny moments. Also this book gives a great insight into the kind of activities bankers do at the associate level. Great book!!
Absolutely hilarious.......2007-04-15
I work at an investment bank but I'm not a banker. I just bought this book on a friends recommendation and I must say this read is hilarious. I read it during my commute to work and the other day I just could not stop laughing in the bus. I had tears in my eyes. I had to put the book down before someone noticed and thought I was crazy.

An easy read that could change your life immensely!.......2007-07-23
I would read another 100 books in this series!
There are so many business books out there that offer complex theories and require a PHD to read.
Kenneth Blanchard created yet another easy to read classic that will help me not only grow my business and help my clients, it gave me some great lessons to share with my grandchildren too.
Full of practical, simple advice and stories that can help you identify the monkey business in your life, and get the monkeys off your back!

Get those monkeys off your back!.......2007-06-10
If your a mid-level manager and you need some basic supervisory skills training, this is the book for you. Excellent overview--it helped my work productivity from day 1, and a good entree into the rest of the One Minute Manager series.
Simple Lessons Concisely Presented.......2007-06-04
This book is a very quick read that describes some simple rules for managing better by not taking on other people's work. The authors explain that by doing things for your people you are not only making life harder on yourself, but also not actually doing an important part of your job, which is helping people develop. Anyone who manages (or who has a manager and needs to manage up) will benefit from the simple lessons, concisely presented. There are even lessons you can apply to the informal leadership roles many of us have such as parent, or someone involved in a community activity.
Promotion Material.......2007-05-07
Since my first purchase of this book last year, I have recommended it to half a dozen people and received a promotion myself. It's so clear after reading and applying the teachings from this book, that so often as managers, we tend to do a lot of things well but unfortunately we are doing the wrong things at the wrong time. Being free to delegate and ensure that what we let go of is completed with the same level of expectation as we would put on it, is liberating to say the least. A must read if you are feeling too busy to do the things that are important to you outside your work a day world. Best management book I have read.
The One Minute Manager Meets the Monkey.......2007-01-04
This is a great coaching tool to create a conversational strategy for learning to effectively delegate and build trust and empower indiviudals. It is an easy read and when used with graphics and other creative tools it has a dramatic impact on individuals behaviors.

Caps for Sale is a timeless classic, in print for over fifty years, and beloved by generations of readers. This easy-to-read story about a peddler and a band of mischievous monkeys is filled with warmth, humor, and simplicity. Children will delight in following the peddlers efforts to outwit the monkeys in this new, enlarged, and redesigned edition, and will ask to read it again and again.
Amazon.com
Subtitled A Tale of a Peddler, Some Monkeys and Their Monkey Business, this absurd and very simple story has become a classic, selling hundreds of thousands of copies since its first publication in 1940. A peddler walks around selling caps from a tall, tottering pile on his head. Unable to sell a single cap one morning, he walks out into the countryside, sits down under a tree, checks that all the caps are in place, and falls asleep. When he wakes up, the caps are gone--and the tree is full of cap-wearing monkeys. His attempts to get the caps back generate the kind of repetitive rhythm that 3- and 4-year-olds will adore. (Preschool and older) --Richard Farr

Caps for Sale.......2007-09-20
I ordered this book for a new first-grade teacher because she was lacking reading material in her classroom. It has been a favorite story of mine for probably 20 years. I used it in the classroom to have the kids dramatize it as a comprehension check. They loved acting it out. We used paper plates for the caps. The "monkeys" sat on a table when they were "treed." I would recommend it for children's libraries.
Melodic caps for sale..........2007-07-04
Bought this item about 5 years ago... the book 'wore' out so recently ordered another replacement. The grandchildren LOVE it's melodic story. Amazondotcom comes through w/ great deals once again.
WONDERFUL EDITION TO AN OLD, OLD CLASSIC.......2007-05-12
I hate to admit it, but I can remember this story being read to me by my mother shortly after it was first published. I loved it as a child and love it now. The story, at first glance is simple, well told and an absolute delight. The illustrations are "old world," and the type I grew up on. Even though the story has been around for years and years, it is certainly no worse for the wear. What delighted me as a child seems to delight the kids of today. I read this one to my various classes and the kids all seem to love it. Actually, there is not much to not like about this one. Recommend it highly.
Never Gets Old.......2007-05-02
I recently started reading this book to my two year old, and she loves it as much as I did when I was young. It's fun to incorporate lessons on counting and colors as we read this silly tale of monkey see, monkey do.
Monkey See Monkey Do.......2007-03-29
"Once there was a peddler who sold caps. But he was not like an ordinary peddler carrying his wares on his back. He carried them on top of his head."
When a peddler falls asleep on the job, he finds that his caps are stolen by a bunch of cheeky monkeys. The peddler discovers a way to get his caps back in a hilarious illustration of "Monkey see monkey do".
This book, first written in the 1940's has stood the test of time.

Recieved the book today and couldn't put it down. I am amazed how the simple rules put forth in this book are not used by modern business.

Lots of laughs!.......2007-09-29
Great stories! My kids love to listen to the stories over and over. Narration is done very well. Lots of fun!
Super!!!.......2007-06-27
These stories are wonderful for 5 and 6 yr old children . The experiences in the books are what they are experiencing right now. My granddaughter loved them and so did her grandmother. very intertaining.. We also got the CDs for the car and they are super also!!
Junie B C.D.'s.......2007-01-29
Darling, funny tape the whole family can enjoy. Grammar is inappropriately used, so if you're concerned about your younger children hearing it over and over, you might want to read the books to them instead, where you can edit it out.
Junie B on CD.......2006-02-24
My kindergartener adores Junie B and she LOVES these CDs. We've been reading Junie B books for more than a year and the CDs are a treat so she can continue "reading" when the lights go out at bedtime. I'm not crazy about Junie B (she gets in a lot of trouble, is rude and uses poor grammar) but I do enjoy the CDs ... they're funny and performed well AND, they occasionally provide teaching moments (when I can turn to my daughter and say: "I'm not sure I'd want to be friends with a girl like Junie B.")
Junie B CD.......2005-07-27
I purchased the books on CD for my daughter because my son had them on cassette tape. However, to my dismay, the stories are split between 5 CDs and some stories are continued from one CD to the next. The stories themselves are wonderful, however, my advice is to purchase them on cassette tape so you don't have to switch CDs mid-story.

THE ONLY MANAGEMENT BOOK YOU NEED TO READ.......2003-12-07
I started my management career in 1970 and was lucky to have attended a 2 day seminar in 1972 from William Oncken and I have read all his books. Once you read his work you quickly realize that you never have to read another management book again. His understanding of human nature and the real dynamics of organizations is profound. His work is as relavant now as it was 30 years ago. This is a must read for anyone trying to get ahead in corporate America.
Get More from your subordinates, give more to your manager.......2001-01-11
Funny, memorable and inspiring.
After 20 years in business I finally got it. And it came from this book. When I first became a supervisor my company provided me with a course in 'monkey management'. I thought I understood it and my roll in it but I was only on the receiving end of the monkeys.
This book not only taught me how to be a professional manager, but also explained how to make my subordinates and myself 'professional managees'. That's whats not taught in so many management courses and seminars.
Don't think because this book is out of print that it's no longer relevant. I've been to seminars with Ken Blanchard, Tom Peters, et al. Oncken had them cold a long time ago.
Comprehensive and all inclusive approach to managment........1999-08-24
Oncken has condensed time managment, functional managment, peer communications, project/task mangement and control and oraganizing the content of a job to maximize the effectiveness of the manager and his/her team. This is the only course I've been exposed to (in over 20 years) that is not only practical, but blends the various activities and responsibilities of management into a cohesive useable philosophy and work ethic. The 'monkey theory' is easily adopted with a minimum of fuss. Bill promises that after a two day seminar you will NOT be saddled with two more days of work, but within one day of applying the tools learned during the seminar you will be caught up. I SUBMIT that reading the book and using the principles presented will net the same results. A job that becomes simultaneously controllable, fun and effective.
Will trade for Harvard MBA.......1998-10-30
This is a funny well-written and well thought out book based on reality about who people are and how they function. Case studies do not impart the same depth of information about human nature. If you still need an MBA after reading this, maybe you should be thinking about getting your Ph.D. in economics or your J.D. It is not so much a retrospective based on narrowly defined circumstances as it is a prospectus on the human condition. No, it does not review the fine art of credit derivatives, nor is it going to knock Drucker and Bennis off your shelf. It will make Drucker and credit derivatives concepts that work in the same sentence.

MB is for Masters in Business
Which is what Kimmy, Russ, Jamie, and Layla are supposed to be studying for at the University of Connecticut.
Jamie at least has serious academic intent. Well, until the first day of preterm when he develops a not-so-secret crush.
MB is for Marriage Bait
Layla's goal is perfection: perfect marks, perfect six-figure salary, perfect (I.e. rich, gorgeous, sexy) New York banker husband. . .candidate already identified as Bradley Green. The trouble is, seducing him could get her expelled.
MB is for Multiple Bed-hopping
Definitely
Kimmy's favorite homework--starting with Jamie but moving swiftly on to Russ, until she discovers the small matter of his girlfriend back home. Hopefully Business Studies includes a minor in boyfriend embezzlement--a skill Kimmy will need if she's to keep hold of Russ.
MB is for Misbehaving Boyfriend
Russ didn't intend to be unfaithful--to either girlfriend! He never thought he'd find one woman who wanted him, let alone two. But since he can't even pick a major, how can he choose one true soul mate?
Customer Reviews:
Witty quest to an MBA .......2007-02-20
If these four characters have any reflection on who will the next CEO's of Corporate America, we're all in for a surprise. The transitions from character to character are smooth -- not something many authors can get away with. The storylines overlap allowing anticipation yet no scene is spoiled. I'd love to have seen some of the scenes which were told in Jamie's point-of-view in Kimmy's (and vice versa).
Great book!.......2007-01-13
This book is great: as opposed to one person narratives the story here is told from the point of view of all four of the three main characters. This alone makes this book a lot more interesting than a lot of the other books in this genre.
The story is about four students, all at their late twenty's, and takes place in a business school.
One of the characters is Kimmy, who ends up having a one night stand with Jamie on the first day of school. Later she gets a crush on Russ, who she starts having an affair with, but he leaves her to get back with his ex-girlfriend Sharon who is pregnant with his child. It is good to see Kimmy gaining self esteem in the end, getting good grades and a great summer job in New York, plus Layla lets her stay in her gorgeous apartment for free.
Well, Layla takes school very seriously and found the perfect good on paper type of boyfriend while checking applications for the school. Of course it turns out that in real live he isn't all that great, and Layla ends up dating Jamie.
Never superficial or shallow, funny, exciting, and romantic, everything a girl can ask for - I loved it, and will check out other of the authors' books. (The only complaint I have is that the coed dorms including bathrooms for business school students seem way unrealistic and out of place, but I was willing to look over this detail)
Not the best I've read...........2006-08-04
It's okay at best. I wasn't too pleased with the Kimmy/Russ/Sharon storyline. It seems neither one of the three have any respect for each other or themselves. The chapters about them bored me to death, and I kept wanting to put the book down.
Kimmy was a slut, plain and simple. She slept with Jamie when she first got to Business school, then when he doesn't perform to her expectations, she sets her sights on his friend Russ, who is already taken.
Russ turns out to be a likable character, or so you think, in the first couple chapters. Then you realize he's a pothead who drinks too much, sleeps with Kimmy though he claims he's 'commited' to Sharon, and not only cheats in relastionships, but on school assignments as well.
Sharon I have to say is a bit of a controlling bitch. And if she thought from the get go that Russ was going to be faithfull going to school in another country, she's delusional as well. She does break up with him when she finds out...BUT, months later tells Russ she's pregnant. Not weeks after breaking up, MONTHS. And the symptoms of pregnancy *morning sickness* was already in effect BEFORE the breakup.
Jamie and Layla were the only two character in this book with any good qualities about them. Their interactions with eacth other were light and fun to read. Had the book only been about these two and left out the Kimmy/Russ/Sharon triangle from hell, it would have been a much better book.
Great Book!.......2006-06-08
This was my first book I've read from Mlynowski, and I can't wait to read her others. There was great character development, discriptions, chemistry and an original plot. I am currently an undergrad business student with hopes to also receive an MBA. I could relate to book, situation and characters!
Should be a TV Show!.......2006-06-06
Monkey Business is filled with complex characters all going through a major life transformation, navigating the tumultuous world of business school. Anyone who has ever been involved in the group dynamics that evolve with an educational institute as a backdrop can understand and appreciate the obstacles that students (and people) face. There is competition, friendship, loyalty, trust, romance, fear and turmoil. Mlynowski explores each one of these facets with her wonderful novel MONKEY BUSINESS. A story about a group of friends whose lives are so captivating that it makes the reader wish their stories could continue...perhaps on television?!

GREAT!.......2007-07-30
This book was so much fun for both me and my six year old granddaughter!
The CD amused her many times when we were riding in the car. I thought it would be good for one car ride, but she kept wanting to hear it over and over.
Don't buy this book.......2007-07-26
I'm not sure which annoys me more--the mean-spirited dialogue or the consistently poor grammar that I'm guessing is supposed to be funny but isn't. If you want your child to be a nasty smart-aleck, this is the book for you!
Nice Book.......2007-03-16
I bought this book by mistake, I meant to get the English Version; however, my 9 year old got a total kick out of it being in Spanish. I than bought the same book in English and she thought that was the greatest thing, to have both. She was comparing words and seeing if she could speak a little Spanish.
We can offer better material than this!.......2006-11-29
Why would we want to teach our children how to use poor english, disrespect their elders and call each other potty-mouthed names? With all the quality options for children's books out there, don't bother with this series. While the United States educational system struggles to teach children to read and write correctly, our schools offer them things like this. If you want to teach bad grammar and manners, go right ahead. It's such a shame. These funny stories could have been told just as well, without any schlock included. Thanks, but no thanks.
Junie B. Jones Little Monkey Business .......2006-10-24
Junie B. Jones Little Monkey Business by Barbara Park is a great book. This book was funny.
When Junie B's mother was pregnant Junie B. started to get jealous. Her parents started painting the new baby's room and put more attention to that than Junie B.
She started to call her baby brother a monkey.
Another great part was when her best friends started to give her every single thing they owned so they would able to see her little brother.
Junie B. started to think it was a really big deal because her friends were acting so crazy. Junie B. started calling her baby brother a monkey in her class when it was going to be a pet day. She wanted to bring her little brother in for pet day.
I highly recommend this book it was really funny. I think you will like it too!!!

Bad English.......2007-10-10
I can't bring myself to read another one of these books to my daughter. What kind of example are we setting when we read books with horrible grammar to them? "I did a sigh." What's that all about? Very distracting. Use the book to teach grammar you say? No. I'd never get through the book. A great story for kids? Maybe. But still not good for children who are just beginning to read, write, and learn proper grammar. The benefits do not outweigh the horrors.
Junie B is a hit.......2007-08-28
My 5 year old just loves Junie B. and it has made her want to read because she love the things this girl gets herself into. I just wish proper English was used all of the time because the slang is confusing to our daughter.
Junie B. Jones.......2007-08-21
I tried to read these to my stepdaughter and couldn't get past the bad grammer. My grandmother AND father were both English teachers and it just made me cringe. I was totally against these books until....my 5 year old came home with one two weeks ago and has fallen in love with reading. She reads Junie B on the way to school and even when I'm blow drying her hair at night. She is READING and LOVING it. June B. my not be my thing but it certainly has her attention and she is reading. No, she hasn't become June B. but she has become a kindergartner that is reading at a 2nd grade level. That's hard to knock! I counteract June B. by picking out classics like Heidi and Swiss Family Robinson to read to her for my story time at night. I still can't stomach the language but I'm not standing in the way of my child's reading either.
Hilarious, ingenious, indispensible.......2007-08-17
Barbara Park is an American treasure, and she is one of the funniest writers out there. She has hit upon an improbable heroine and an unlikely template, from which pours forth a seemingly never ending fountain of inspiration. I enjoyed reading these aloud to my 5-year old daughter, stopping often to manage the guffaws commencing from my belly, until she took to them herself and voraciously plowed through the rest of the series. I'll never forget her lying on her back the night after we had read our first one (where Junie hurts her toe kicking a water can) saying to me "Remember how Junie B. had all those problems?..."
I know that I can trust my daughter to chart her course to reading and independent thought with a little gentle guidance on my part, and I appreciate the heroic efforts of Barbara Park to stoke the fire within my daughter's mind, which every new adventure of Junie B. kindles a little further.
The junk food of children's books.......2007-08-02
The Junie B. Jones books I have read are a sad example of children's literature. The grammatical errors are excessive and detract from the stories. The errors would be expected in a child of 2 or 3 years of age but not a 5 or 6 year old. We have three books that my daughter and I have made corrections in but I will not be purchasing any more. There are many other choices in children's literature to satisfy a child's imagination and encourage a love of reading. Stupid is not cute. This junk is pumped out for the masses to gorge on like McDonald's. So enjoy, we've had our fill.
