Since Everyone is on a Team - Read this book.......2007-01-25
I read this book initially with a focus on Business Team Building. I found it it simple and straightforward. I learned about creating a code of honor for myself first, and then for my family and business. It also helped me look at what I can do to improve me, create my own code and commit to the follow through and believe the results will follow.
Simple strategies - hard work to implement - abundant rewards for the people involved in the process.
I read a bunch of the negative reviews for this book and felt for my small invesment of time and money the book was worth 10 x's what I invested.
If you are a coach, parent, or in a business this will give you a new view on team builing for long term success.
I don't recommend this book.......2007-01-04
I am a big fan of Robert Kiyosaky, but I didn't like this book at all, what is a pitty, since I liked the other book by Blair Singer, Salesdogs. I expected much more from it. The author had only one idea -- "create a code of honor for your team" and wrote a book around it. Honestly, I don't think this book has anything to add. I suggest reading The Servant, by James C. Hunter instead. This one is a really awesome book about leadership.
Well written--but doesn't quite hit the nail on the head........2006-01-31
This is a very good book on the subject of finding the type of people to work for you. What it fails to do is to point out the specialty people required to get a business running and growing. That is what I expected, after reading the title. One thing that totally put me off as I read this book. The author spoke of owning a shipping business and having a time pressure to get a shipment loaded. All of the laborers pulled together as a team, working long hours and extra shifts without complaining or asking for overtime pay. Who made the lions share of the money? Not the ones who did the hard labor, but he as the owner. Compensation was something not mentioned in this book. I very much like the concept of a 'code of honor', in which this book was almost completely based. I am still not really sure, after reading this book, what the difference between a code of honor and a mission statement is. A couple of great books that also cover this concept very well are: On My Honor I Will, and The Lost Secret of Phenomenol Success. This kind of book makes you think about your values, and what you want from life. I recommend it. Just remember, it may not be what you expect.
DON'T BUY THIS BOOK!! .......2005-07-05
I am an entrepreneur and wanted some inspiration, sadly I just found a lot of crap in this book. There's nothing I can apply, anyone can come up with a book better than this. just by reading the index you know this book was written by someone who has no idea about business. I'll write it for you:
chap.1 why do you need a code of honor?
2 who you sorround yourself with will determine your wealth and success
3 creating your code of honor
4 what's your personal code
5 how to enforce the code to ensure championship play
6 leadership that teaches other
7 the biggest impact of the code
8 ensuring account. loyalty and trust
9 standing in the heat with the code
conclusion it's your time to have a code
the book is full of phrases like: (please ask yourself if you need to buy a book to learn this:)
"nature whats you to go for it" pg 122
"when in doubt support each other" pg 115
"accountability is in the stats, no stats no results" pg 108
"the code is an awesome recruiting tool and qualifier"
"steps for creating a code: 1 create a code in a sane environment"
"sample code: 1 never abandon a teammate in need"
Creating a Code of Honor.......2005-05-23
This book wasn't exactly what I was expecting. I was expecting a book on how to pick advisors like accountants, real estate brokerss, lawyers, etc. However this book was about creating a team that works according to a "code of honor" that is created by the team.
Essentially the code of honor is a set of rules that the team creates and lives by in order to maintain a high level of accountability and performance. The idea makes sense as teams and people and general need rules by which to live by. Author Blair Singer does a good job of organizing the information and presenting it in an easy to read fashion.
On the downside, I wish there were more examples in this book to illistrate the points he's makes. A list of rules would have been nice, or the lists of rules that some other companies have come up with.
However other than that, the book is well done. Anyone wanting to build a team or wanting to improve the accountability of their existing team should pick up this book. 4 out of 5 stars.
Book Description
Starting from the premise that private feeling cannot be contained or eliminated from public deliberation or action, William M. Reddy embarks on a fascinating inquiry into the influence of honor on behavior in nineteenth-century France. He discovers that French society was governed by a strict code of honor and that males in particular were vulnerable to acute feelings of shame, while any other feelings--referred to as "sentiment"--were considered the special domain of women. Examining the realms of both marriage and the public sphere, Reddy uncovers the feelings of shame and self-esteem, fear and desire, that entered in an unperceived yet fundamental way into the sense of self that many elite men and women worked out in the course of their lives.
Reddy draws from archival documents spanning the disparate realms of marriage, bureaucracy, education, the fledgling profession of journalism, and literature from 1814 to 1848. Inspired by the research of women's studies and the history of gender, he explores the relationship between gender and emotion, and reveals the threads that held the social order together and gave coherence to peoples' lives and identities.

Candid glimpse of what great cinema requires.......2003-07-20
Code Of Honor: The Making Of Three Great American Westerns by Emmy award-winning makeup artist Michael F. Blake, delves into the formative process behind the classic movies "High Noon," "Shane," and "The Searchers." Original interviews, behind the scenes anecdotes, screenplay evolution, the motives behind casting choices, and much, much more fill the pages of this involving and candid glimpse of what great cinema requires behind the screen. Code Of Honor is a welcome and informative contribution to personal, academic, and community library Cinema History collections and reading lists.
Outstanding work! ENCORE!.......2003-05-26
Michael F. Blake has turned in a labor of love, & it shows. CODE OF HONOR not only deals with the making of these three classic films, but why the protagonists act the way they do without 'analyzing' the film, like so many do. In other words, Blake's book is a FUN read, & not a studious one. He writes for the public, & not over thier heads, something I appreciate. The items he points out are fascinating, such as the ties between THE SEARCHERS & STAR WARS, or how many different characters in SHANE all have thier own code of honor.
Well done! I look forward to his next work!
Book Description
Most single women have spent an evening doing Raw Cookie Dough Time (after theyve been dumped), and when theyre really desperate, have even dated men from The Recycling Bin (What did you hate about him? You dont remember). But for anyone needing a translation, or just a laugh, Diane Farr offers a whimsical guide to dating vernacular. Some well-known, some newly-minted, these are slang terms for the different stages of love and dating, for body parts and common sexual experiences, and for all the ways of making up and breaking up.

Book Description
Harold Coyle, New York Times bestselling author of Against All Enemies, Trial by Fire, and Bright Star, is America's acclaimed master of the war novel. In Code Of Honor, Coyle delivers battlefield realism and excitement in a story that echoes the complex U.S. military mission in today's world....
A corrupt and fractured government in Bogotá, Colombia, requests a small expeditionary force of U.S. troops to combat drug lords and a growing insurgency. It's a scenario for disaster: an unstable country...an elusive enemy...a political and military minefield. The 11th Air Assault Division is called on to act as a police force, even when Brigadier General Scott Dixon reports back from a fact-finding mission that it's a war America can't win. But for a paper-pushing U.S. Major General in Bogotá, no initiative is too risky to safeguard his career. Then Captain Nancy Kozak -- under assault in the field, but determined to avert defeat and protect the soldiers in her command -- dares to defy him. With careers hanging in the balance, Kozak is struggling to survive an explosive clash that pits resolve against prejudice, and honor against ambition....

Good drama, bad facts........2007-06-04
Harold Coyle was a military officer and thus knows how to protray military action and the reactions of the men and women caught up in the organized chaos that is war. He also shows how in a peacetime military a talented rank climber with decent admin skills and good performance in war games can get command of a frontline divivsion. No imcompetance here folks, just the Peter-principal in action. Cpt. Kozack's actions are not unusual givin the circumstances nor would be Gen. Lane's but to be fair to the Dog-faces (I'm a Jarhead) I believe that once Lane's incompetance was shown, the good captain would get off easily. Sure, she wouldn't get a medal but her career would survive and Lane would become a glorified gofer in the puzzle palace. The interplay between a hero-general, his protage, and a well connented politician in uniform is very well played out if ending in a bit of a anti-climax. But it must be said that these things often end this way.
Were Coyle again goes wrong in on his political background (he did the same in TEN THOUSAND: seven barely adequately trained divisions vs. even one crack US division and the USN, USMC and ASAF air wings (who would have been brought in)? Come on!). First of all FARC (as pretty much everyone, even THEM, admits) is the worlds largest single suppliers of cocaine in the world (70%). They also engage routinely in massacres, kidnapping, and extortion. Sure the right-wing paramilitaries also do these three things, but even Amnesty International admits that FARC has them beat. Thus to my mind making FARC so bloody pure is a stretch to astound Mr. Fantastic and bit insulting really, not to mention odd for such a Army veteran. I chalk it up to literary stretching for sake of story (as I did for the TEN THOUSAND) but I hope that in the future that Major Coyle will change the names of his background organizations enabling readers to suspend belief easier.
Almost perfect.......2001-08-16
Just two minor quibbles, the first being the slightly cartoonish Lane character who was predictable and stereotyped every step of the way despite some attempt to flesh him out, second being a hurried ending that closed the court martial with a footnote rather than the big bang that it was building up towards.
However, these are small issues. Coyle's take on the Colombian drug war is arguably superior to its equivalents in Tom Clancy's overplotted Clear and Present Danger and Ralph Peters' Twilight of Heroes. Other than Lane, all other characters are well-realised and the gripping narrative is tinged with an affecting touch of sadness. Emotions practically exploded off the pages after the tragic fiasco in the jungle.
I regard this novel as one of the best post-Cold War technothrillers, if it can be called that. Although the genre effectively lay down and died due to the paucity of credible sparring opponents for the might of the US, Code Of Honour shines like a rare gem in the overall decline. Highly recommended.
There seems more to the story.......2001-08-12
Code of Honor is a cautionary book on sending American troops to other countries without a clear objective. Not too different from Vietnam. I think Coyle romanticizes rebel life a little too much. This romanticism is shown from the eyes of a former teacher-now-turned FARC rebel. The book could have been more objective in that the rebels are nowhere morally better than the government. They'd actually be into kidnap, and extortion.
After the previous book, The Ten Thousand, the tension between mainstays Dixon and Jan Fields is much less. And not much is explored with Capt. Nancy Kozak and her beau. I shall miss one of the familiar characters in the series. The story feels lacking and it could be due to limiting the story to about 500+ pages.
excellent book; you will be angry, sad and happy.......1999-01-29
it's a book that will leave you frustrated and yet somehow elated at the results. Two U.S. Army Generals face off behind the scenes of a ficticous quagmire war based in Columbia, with the lives and careers of Army officers at stake.
It was OK, I guess........1997-05-18
Code of Honor wasn't too bad. It had some action, but mostly it centered around a U.S. General named C.B. Lane who is a cowardly bureaucrat and the main character's of most of Coyle's previous novels who are fighting a guerilla-type war in Columbia. There wasn't nearly as much action as in the author's previous books, and the end left a lot of business unfinished, but it was still an acceptable read

Jake and Chelsea bring firefighter trilogy to a close.......2000-06-17
Jake finds himself supervising a new firefighter in his team - unfortunately, Chelsea has a bad reputation because she got involved with a fellow coworker and ended up in a terrible situation.
Now as he struggles with his attraction to her, he must also cope with what appear to be Chelsea's mistakes. In reality, someone who doesn't want her around is making it appear as if she were incompetent, and it is putting the team in danger.
I loved these three books by Kathryn Shay. If you haven't read her, please do so, they are filled with great, real characters and details about the life and work of firefighters that make everything come alive.
One of the Best by One of the Best.......2000-04-29
Kathryn Shay is one of my favorite writers and this time she outdoes herself! Code of Honor is a wonderful story about two people with pain in their past who have the courage to overcome them -- and they do it with a lot of humor, passion and emotion.
There aren't too many books with firefighter heroes -- and fewer with firefighter heroines. I almost wish there were, but only if they were this good! There are two more books in this series, but this one is my favorite. Ummmm...love that Jake! I can't recommend this exciting and fascinating story enough.
Third book in her superb firefighters series!.......2000-02-25
This latest in her contemporary series about firefighters is exceptionally well-written, sexy, emotional, and sometimes funny. I just love Jake and Chelsea together. Jake is stoic, gorgeous, and Chelsea's boss...Uh-oh! The story is irresistible. I hope this is not the last book in her series. I hope Delaney and Reed's story is next! I highly recommend the 1st two in this series, FEEL THE HEAT and THE MAN WHO LOVED CHRISTMAS. I Loooove this series!
This third in a trilogy is a fine romance.......1999-12-23
Rockford, New York Fire Chief Talbot informs Lieutenant Jake Scarlatta that his team will inherit firefighter Chelsea Whitmore. Jake wants nothing to do with Chelsea . She had a bad run with her present assignment when she ended a relationship with a peer, Billy Milligan.
Chelsea quickly proves she belongs with the crew and earns their respect. However, one member deeply feels women should never be firefighters and begins to do dirty tricks to make Chelsea look incompetent. As Chelsea worries about her future with the department, she and Jake fall in love. However, she vowed to never again have a personal relationship with a firefighter after Billy, who continues to stalk her. Jack vows to go by the book after ignoring problems so long that his best friend suffered while on his crew. Neither one wants the other, but love leaves both needing the other.
Kathryn Shay's third "America's Bravest" tale warmly brings to a conclusion a wonderful contemporary series centering on an upstate New York fire department. CODE OF HONOR is filled with problems confronting firefighters and the department that makes for an exciting read. The lead characters are a beautiful duo and the return of the cast from the two previous novels makes the audience feel they are part of a community. Ms. Shay pays homage to the country's brave firefighters in an entertaining trilogy that will leave fans appreciating the efforts of professionals and the author who depict them accordingly.

Book Description
In this study of upper-class masculinity from the end of the ancien régime in 1789 to the end of World War I, Robert Nye argues that manhood, masculinity, and male sexuality is, like femininity, a cultural construct, comprising a strict set of heroic ideals and codes of honor which few men have been able to realize in practice. In doing so, Nye destabilizes and historicizes the male body, and incorporates gender into the brand of cultural history inaugurated by Norbert Elias in the 1930s.

Complex romantic duo.......2007-08-07
Air Force Pilot Joe Greco has nursed a crush on his best friend's girlfriend Brigid since he first laid eyes on her. Cooper Scott is a Green Beret on a mission in Iraq when his squad is ambushed. Piloting the rescue helicopter with photojournalist Brigid in the back documenting the action, Joe is horrified when he has to abandon his mission and later learns his best friend has died, along with the rest of his team. Mourning Cooper for two years, he has always been a shoulder and sense of strength for Brigid. But Brigid's feelings are starting to change, and when she offers to be his boinking buddy, Joe is at first shocked, but willing to take any scrap he can get. Spiriting her away to Cortina, a small South American country with a drug problem and ties to the terrorists responsible for Cooper's death, he wants her to document the action. Their stint as lovers lead to deeper emotions, but what'll happen to the new relationship when they learn that Cooper was not killed after all, and he's been living a covert life that's about to collide with theirs?
Mann has a gift for military storytelling, often providing a little too much realism and detail. Joe is probably one of her greatest heroes - he's not over the top like a superhero - he's human and emotional and has plenty of demons. The relationship between the two is complex and the chemistry is sizzling. Cooper gets his own romance as a secondary storyline, though I would have preferred to have kept it to one couple. Mann often has numerous couples in her storyline, taking away from the primary storyline.
Code Of Honor soars.......2005-08-28
Catherine Mann's Code Of Honor is a must read for any fan of military romance.
Captain Joe Greco has flown many dangerous missions for the Air Force. The one that still haunts him, he lost his best friend Cooper Scott. Joe has kept his feeling to himself for two years regarding Cooper's girlfriend Brigid Wheeler.
Photojournalist Brigid Wheeler had left field work after the death of her love Cooper. Her friendship with Joe has deepened but now she is looking at Joe in a whole new light. They are together again on a foreign mission. But will the new level in their relationship change once Cooper is found alive and working undercover.
Code Of Honor is beautifully written. You feel like you are right there watching the action. The military flavor is dynamic and compelling. Joe and Brigid work their way from friend to lovers with passion that will stir your senses.
The secondary characters of Cooper Scott and Lena Banuelos are deeply moving. They will make you think and touch you profoundly
Code Of Honor is a book I will treasure and re-read many times.
Code of Honor ROCKS!!.......2005-08-24
OMG - What an incredible debut HQN novel from Rita-award winning author Catherine Mann!! The riveting opening grabs you by the throat and the heart when USAF Captain Joe "Face" Greco changes direction of his Pave Low helicopter from shuttling photojournalist Brigid Wheeler around a war torn country. Joe responds to a Mayday call for a Green Beret unit led by his buddy Cooper, which turns into a nightmare. The grief Joe and Brigid share over Cooper's death - Brigid's lover - brings them close together, but not to the point of stepping over the line of friendship. At least, not until a year later when Brigid is ready to move on and Joe realizes...I won't say more and spoil it for you. A tortured hero and one of the sexiest warriors on the face of the earth, Joe surprised me in wonderful ways when I least expected. The chemistry between Joe and Brigid should catch the book on fire. This page-turner's twists and turns don't stop when Joe and Brigid learn the shocking truth about Cooper, whose casket they'd watched lowered into the ground the year before. An ultimate betrayal still awaits them. Catherine Mann has done a brilliant job of weaving a deeply emotional story and fast-paced action around real characters you'll remember long after you finish the book. With a plot that constantly ratchets up the tension on every page, this story is one you'd expect to see on the big screen. Clear a day to read this book or plan to miss an appointment.
Definitely worth buying........2005-08-11
Cathy Mann is an excellent up-and-coming author that takes love, despair, friendship, and bareknuckle brawling and makes a captivating tale called Code of Honor that draws readers in. As in most of her books, there's serious treatment of sometimes shocking and serious issues, but everything fits the story, and her characters still know how to have fun. The descriptions are vivid enough that I've still got a mental image of a street cafe lingering weeks after reading about it.
excellent romantic suspense thriller.......2005-08-09
Two years ago in Iraq, Green Beret Cooper Scott and his squad were trapped under hostile fire even as his wife World Weekly photojournalist Brigit Wheeler, in country on assignment, knows her beloved is dead. Captain Joe "Face" Green tries to rescue his best friend, but fails. Not long afterward Brigit quit her job.
Two years later, widow Brigit enjoys her leisure life at Ft. Walton Beach, Florida though she still misses her spouse. Joe has been there for her helping her make her adjustment that much easier. Though feeling guilt, Brigit is attracted to Joe, but he shows no indication that he reciprocates. In fact he has loved Brigit from the moment Cooper introduced them to each other, but out of respect for his pal never acted on his deep regard. As they begin to show their strong feelings, they learn that Cooper lives.
CODE OF HONOR lives up to its title as the lead couple try not to act on their attraction and admiration for one another out of deference to the fallen hero whose has his own guilt to deal with when it comes to his wife. Loaded with action, a vile villain, and a terrific romance, fans of suspense thrillers will enjoy this fine tale and look forward to Catherine Mann's next novel, the Captive Returns.

The Most Honorable Vietnam Veteran I Ever Knew.......2002-03-12
I had the distinct honor of serving under Colonel Dramesi after he became the Wing Commander of the 509 Bomb Wing (M), Pease AFB, NH. When I knew him at Pease AFB, Colonel Dramesi was a quiet man, but he deserved everyone's respect. His outstanding book recalls his captivity in the Hanoi Hilton and is, by far, the most descriptive of all books I have ever read about what these HEROES experienced. The book depicts his experiences of being shot down over Vietnam, an accurate description of the deplorable conditions in which he was forced to endure in Cell #6, his recollection of personal torture for literally 38 days in a row, his two escape attempts from the Hanoi Hilton, and the sorrowful loss of his friend Capt Ed Adderbury. Although I have somehow misplaced my copy of the book (I am looking for a replacement), I remember that Colonel Dramesi was, and always will be, worthy of the following statement: "Welcome Home American." A "must have" for anyone who wants to know the truth about our POW's in Vietnam. Colonel: You will never be forgotten!
A Hero's Hero.......2000-05-30
I worked around Col.Dramesi, while I was stationed at Plattsburgh AFB, New York. I was fortunate enough to get an autographed copy of his book when it was first released. He was a living legend at Plattsburgh, and people were truly in awe of him. Thank you, Colonel Dramesi, for serving your country so honorably!
Bravery.......2000-01-18
I've read the book Code of Honor and found it to be absolutely amazing! Colonel Dramesi is a very brave man who has been through a lot in his life. I have had the opportunity to talk to him and learn of his feelings about the war and being imprisoned. I would recommend his book to anyone who wants to learn more about the Vietnam War and the prison camps in Hanoi.
I personally knew this man.......1999-12-08
Lt. John Dramesi was assigned to the 354th TFW at Myrtle Beach AFB,SC in 1958. We were on temp duty at Matagorda Bombing Range in TX. On take off in his F100 he hit a herd of deer. I forget how many. We painted the amount on his plane. His landing gear was crippled and he made an emergency landing at Foster AFB,TX. I was sent to repair the electrical damage. I read his book and am not suprised at his bravery. What a man. We had many of them at Myrtle Beach. The Maintenance men called him "THE DEER SLAYER" after that.
