I got up to page 87 and wanted to toss it in the trash. The only thing i got from it was that the women writing it LOVED Candice Bergen. They spent more time on clothes then needed and didn't even tell you what the difference between a black tie and white tie event is. A wast of $13.

It's a shame this book isn't better. Such a good title. I think this one would suit it better. "Modern Working Woman's Guide to Being Civilized".
This book is a very basic selection of dos and don'ts for the modern woman. Works from the results of a survey and has bits and peices about women the authors admire.
If you have never read much on manners and feminine qualtities this book might be a good place to start. It's easy to read and a good survey of the qualities and lacks of modern women. Some basic etiquette and suggestions on kindness and consideration.
But if you've ever cracked open a copy of Emily Post or something similar you might not want to bother with this book.

This book came to me shortly after my parents began their divorce when I was 26. Although I had not lived at home since I was 19 and their marriage had never been a happy one, it was earth-shattering, nontheless. The heart-break of it took me by surprise. This book was very helpful in assuring me that my feelings were normal and I was not coming unhinged as I feared. It took about 5 years to get to a place where I'd really worked through the issues the divorce created and/or unearthed, but this book gave me the freedom to take that time, rather than expecting myself to "just get over it". I recommend this book to everyone I meet who is in the midst of this issue, whether an adult child or the divorcing parent of an adult child.

I only acquired this book in the later stages of my parents' divorce -- which began in 2000 but lasted for hard 3 years of back-and-forth --- but it made a tremendous difference in how I thought about and understood it, as well as my own more extreme reactions to the news and subsequent events. It helped me to quit minimizing and intellectualizing and to begin to sort through some of the difficult emotions and crises of meaning involved, or trying to attribute them to other things to realize that they were 'normal.' What a huge load it began to take off of my shoulders.

This book was the positive turning point in my grief that nothing else was. I have not found anything else published on this subject. I beg you to read this if your parents are divorcing or have divorced when you were an adult. To know you are not alone-is tremendous.
I'll never forget a friend's mother saying to me when I was twenty-two and had recently heard the world-shattering news of my parents divorce of their (happy) thirty-two year marriage, "At least you're grown up. My kids were still children when my husband and I divorced. It was so painful for them."
At that time, the divorce became the single event of my life. It catapulted me into a clinical depression that I could not climb out of for three years, until I sought help. I'm glad I had the courage to do that, or I would not be here today. I'm still not "over" my parents' divorce, which was now 4 years ago. But, the pain does lessen year by year. I still cannot talk about it in casual conversation. This is due to an overwhelming sense of shame and guilt about the divorce and embarrassment that it affected me in such a profound way. I do not feel room for these feelings in our culture so I keep them inside. This is why this book is so important to me. To know that other adult children of divorce feel as I do is a very big deal.

Shortly after my husband of 31 years divorced me for a much younger woman, I stumbled across this book, A Grief Out of Season, in the library where I worked. I was stunned to discover a book on this subject, but boy was I glad I found it. I had been unpleasantly surprised to discover that not only had my husband divorced me, but our three grown children as well - unless they would have a relationship with him on his terms. This meant unconditionally accepting his new wife and her four younger children as their new family! Our children's negative reaction to this and the resulting estrangement from their father was a real source of grief to us all. In the book I discovered that our family was not alone, and drew much comfort from the many personal stories that were related therein. The authors really did their homework, plus their personal experiences were invaluable. I immediately wanted to get this book for each of my grown children and was disappointed to learn that it was out-of-print, so I had to be content with relating to them, second-hand as it were, as much of what I had learned as possible. Since then I have been checking with Amazon.com periodically to see if the book has been re-printed. (This at their recommendation.) I hope it will be soon. Lots of people have much to gain by reading it - grown children and their parents as well!
This is an excellent book for adult children of divorce........1998-03-01
As someone whose parents divorced when I was 24, I can say that this book was the best thing that happened to me during that time. Contrary to what those who have never been there believe, adults whose parents are divorcing feel as much pain and grief as young childrenm, and this book lets them know that others have been there and felt the same. It offers insight on many different situations that may occur in later-life divorce, gives practical suggestions, and explores the feelings that children of such divorces share. It is written in real language, not psychology-speak, giving it a humanistic feel. This is the only book published on the subject of adults whose parents divorce in later life, and is a must-read for those adults.

Provence Style is a beautiful book. Reading this book is like traveling through the Provence country. It describes the types of Provence houses with the illustration of beautiful pictures. You will feel the ambiance of the outdoors as well as the cozy aspects of the indoors. You will almost smell the lavender fields from the terrace pictures! And your visit will show you incredible flooring, original fireplaces, delicate furniture and other traditional elements of the Provence style.
Our preference is biased toward the ceramics, especially the Moustiers ones, and the fabrics. Provence fabrics are so colorful and playful! Also, the Boutis, a white quilting method is presented here with a picture of its transparency through light.

So many Provence house books show plenty of details, but this book's strength is the profusion of color throughout. We took it with us to the tile store and could easily see by opening any page what tones, hues are truly Provencal and would work in our new house.

This book should be the FIRST book one reads when faced with the devastation of a husband leaving and cheating. It has been my source of encouragment, truth and inspiration. They identify each and every emotion that you experience and confirm that you are are NOT alone in what you are going through. They give you practical, encouraging advice/suggestions on how to work through such a painful, disappointing, humiliating experience. This is the best book I've read so far since my husband left. I was married for over 30 years. I haven't read all of the books available on this subject, but this is the BEST one I've read. In fact, I'm reading it a second time. All of my feelings of betrayal, hurt, anger, shock, etc. are covered by two women who have been there, done that. So darn nice to not feel so alone in pain. Face it, if you haven't lived it you can't know how it feels. These women know.

When He Leaves was my lifesaver when I went through my divorce. My husband 'surprised' me with the news he wanted a divorce, and I was devestated. I used many sources for support, but this book was one of the best. The style it is written in is very down to earth and easy to follow, but it so on the mark with the feelings it describes. The book really goes through the different stages well, and helps the reader identify her emotional state and how to deal with it. I would highly recommend this book for women who dreamed of ever after, and had their husbands ruin that. It was my divorce 'bible'.

Great Designs-KNOT enough Knotting Techniques..........2007-07-03
Great book if you are looking for spectacular design ideas, rudimentary bead/pearl stringing and jewelry making instructions with detailed pictures. But if you are an advanced jewelry designer/maker and are looking for the historical ways to string and especially knot pearls, then this is not the book to buy.
Three words in the title; Designer, Techniques and Classic made me think I had found a book that would teach me the multiple "Old Fashioned/Classic" ways to knot a string of pearls. What was offered was good instructions on how to use a "Modern" pearl knotting tool, and a suggestion to read the directions and watch the video that comes with the tool to learn how to knot pearls. No offense to the author or tool, but I thought a designer level book would offer lessons on the several other manual and I guess "Historically Corect", for lack of a better description, ways to knot pearls.
The author did such a good job with every other aspect of this book. I would say, for a beginner, this is an awesome Pearl Book! Simply for its many beautiful design ideas to spark the imagination this is also a great book and well worth the investment. I hope Amazon shares these comments with the Author so she can make a good book great by including the additional, traditional knotting techniques.

I was delighted to find this book. One look at the cover and a flip through the pages and i knew I had found the jewelry making book for me. I have been making jewelry for years and like to get new ideas. The designs in this book are beautiful! Even though the projects look easy enough for a beginner and don't require anything special, the ideas and final pieces of jewelry have me itching to get in my workroom, and i consider myself an advanced jewelry maker. The extra tips, suggestions and additional photographs are also great.
