Book Description
'Bobby Clampett is one of the most knowledgeable golfing minds in the game.'-Tom Lehman, 1996 British Open Champion, 2006 U.S. Ryder Cup team captain Impact has long been called golf's 'moment of truth,' and great golfers have spent countless hours working on their swings trying to upgrade their impact dynamics as the golf club approaches, contacts, then swings through the ball. For the first time, with The Impact Zone, golfers will have a book that focuses their attention on the very same region of the swing on which professional golfers have always concentrated. The Impact Zone is a unique instructional guide in that everything in it either focuses on or applies to improving a golfer's understanding and execution of impact. Here, acclaimed professional golfer Bobby Clampett concludes that the overwhelming bias and convention of today's contemporary teaching environment is to value swing styles over swing dynamics, and in so doing, the overwhelming majority of golf teachers miss the boat in terms of teaching the game effectively.Ultimately this emphasis on swing style comes at the expense of helping golfers to develop sound swing dynamics, which are the real keys to consistent ball striking and better golf. With the help of CBS's Swing Vision high-speed camera-using images from many of the game's greatest contemporary players (including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, John Daly, Vijay Singh, Sergio Garcia, and more)-The Impact Zone takes an unprecedented look at the most important six inches in golf, those that immediately precede, contain, and follow impact. To further demonstrate these principles, Clampett presents photos and drills that convey the five essential dynamics golfers need to produce and reproduce solid impactThroughout these instructional pages, Bobby Clampett-teamed with veteran golf writer Andy Brumer-relays his own personal story of straying from swing dynamics and how he found his way back.He recalls memorable stories from the Tour, blending innovative instruction with his colorful, engaging anecdotes.Clampett and Brumer create an essential instructional guide with clear, concise advice-on creating great swing dynamics through the impact zone-the universally acknowledged key to more consistent and better golf. Advance Praise for The Impact Zone 'I had played many times against Bobby on the PGA Tour and was always impressed with his in-depth approach to the golf swing. But after working with him at CBS for several years, I have come to understand why. The Impact Zone will reveal to the golf world Bobby's unique insight as to why so many different 'styled' golf swings work. God knows my swing isn't one the named teachers are having their students copy, but it was good enough to win twenty-one PGA Tour events and the '77 PGA Championship. It's about time someone finally put in print to refute the myths about 'style of swing' and get down to the meat of the matter-impact! It's no surprise to me that Bobby was the one to get it done right!'-Lanny Wadkins, lead golf analyst for CBS Sports'It's great for all golfers that someone has finally structured an instruction book around dynamic impact. Nor does it surprise me that Bobby Clampett is the one to have done it.He is as good a student of the game as I've ever known. What's more, he was a great player in his day, and his journey as he struggled with his swing, as well as his experience as a commentator and observer of the contemporary game, qualifies him more than most as a teacher to whom all interested in improving their golf games should listen.I know I will. His unique perspective will undoubtedly have a profound impact on the golf world for years to come.' -Johnny Miller, lead golf analyst for NBC Sports and author of I Call the Shots 'Back when we were both in college, Bobby was a boy genius in golf. For fifteen years as his colleague at CBS, I have continued to be amazed by his comprehensive knowledge of the golf swing. He remains as erudite about the technical nuances of the game as anyone on the planet, and I am thrilled he is now sharing his expertise with the rest of the world!' -Jim Nantz, CBS Sports golf anchor 'Bobby Clampett is a true and loyal friend as well as one of the most knowledgeable golfing minds in the game. He has always known that the strike is what matters most. What the swing looks like is really of no concern; the quality of the impact between club and ball is the heart of the matter.'-Tom Lehman, 1996 British Open Champion and 2006 U.S. Ryder Cup team captain

The Impact Zone.......2007-10-08
I very much enjoyed the book. I agree with everything Mr. Clampett has to say. My only criticism is that there are times when I would like Mr. Clampett to give reasons for certain bad shots. Sort of faults and fixes section. This book is very good for golfers at all levels. We all struggle with the problems that Mr. Clampett outlines.
Great Book for Golf Nerds.......2007-10-03
I give this book five stars with a cautionary asterisk. The stars are because it presents a genuinely new and insightful view of the golf swing and I thought it was great. The cautionary asterisk is because this book is for full-blown golf nerds only. If you've spent hours comparing and contrasting the swings of tour players on YouTube, you'll love this book. If you're a beginner, you may want to keep your distance from The Impact Zone.
For those not in the know, Bobby Clampett is a former golf prodigy and ex-tour player who currently works as a commentator for CBS. He is an awesome golfer and golf uber-nerd, and I trust what he has to say.
The gist of the book is pretty logical: all that really matters in the golf swing are the dynamics at work during the period of impact, when the club head is in contact with the ball. He considers many of the commonly-stressed aspects of the swing to be matters of style. In his opinion, the important dynamics that players must strive for are: 1) the flat left wrist at impact, 2) the forward swing bottom, 3) loading, 4) lag and the body pivot, and 4) the straight plane line. Each dynamic gets its own chapter, followed by a chapter on equipment and a chapter on visualization.
I got the most out of dynamic #1, the flat left wrist at impact. I'm a mid-handicapper who makes classic mid-handicapper mistakes: I tend to over-swing, come over the top, and then compensate with a chicken-wing move. Focusing on obtaining a flat left wrist at impact really did help with my swing. It also paid dividends with my bunker shots, where like many players I fight an urge to flip my wrists to get the club under the ball.
In short, I recommend The Impact Zone to anyone who considers themselves a student of the game.
Great Book - Buy It !!.......2007-10-01
Bobby has done a fantastic job explaining what truly is the only
thing that really matters in a golf swing, IMPACT. He talks about
where the bottom of the swing needs to be and the importance of swing
dynamics versus swing style. If you've ever wondered why different
looking swings like Tiger, Arnie, Jack, Furyk, Daly, etc. all seem to
work but look very different, get this book. If you want to improve,
clear your mind, hit better shots and start having more fun playing golf, get this book.
Thank You Mr Clampett........2007-07-22
Finally someone has explained what has been, at least for me, one of the greatest mysteries of the golf swing. The point of contact or, as Bobby Clampett more properly calls it, the Impact Zone. Fot it not only relates to the moment at which the ball is struck but also what happens to the club immediately after contact. To be specific, the area four inches in front of the ball.
To quote Booby Clampett, "If we could somehow change the way the game is taught, and begin working from the ground up with a focus on the golfers swing dynamics, and with the goal of moving their swing bottoms four inches in front of the ball, we could begin to make some real progress - progress that would both grow the game and make it immeasurably more enjoyable for those already hooked on playing it."
This book works through each of the clubs , beginning with the putter and finishing with the driver, in a most systematic, logical and clear manner. The overall approach of the author's is to explain the five key dynamics of the golf swing. They are;
Flat Left wrist at Impact
Forward Swing Bottom
Loading
Lag and the Body Pivot
The Guiding Dynamic
He also deals with the importance of correct equipment selection.
Overall I found this to be a most convincing and useful book. I wish someone had explained all this to me when I began the game. This book is suitable for all levels of golf ability.
Impact zone: Mastering Golf's Moment of Truth.......2007-07-20
A must reading for all golfers interested in improvement. Clampett's simple explanation of Homer Kelly's The Golf Machine is pragmaatic and simple to follow. If you don't buy this book, your golf game will suffer!
Book Description
The Managerial Moment of Truth explains a powerful new concept that can dramatically improve performance and increase productivity, at no cost, in virtually any company or organization. Developed by organizational consultant and bestselling author Robert Fritz and proven in practice by coauthor Bruce Bodaken, the chairman, president, and CEO of Blue Shield of California, the book provides a dynamic technique to help people face up to reality and confront the truth in order to correct mistakes, learn from past performance, and adjust processes to build a more successful organization.
Given human nature, most managers, when faced with the harsh facts of substandard performance, tend to soften the truth with their direct reports, so as not to offend or upset them. They tend to avoid mentioning mistakes, missed dates, an incomplete project, unacceptable quality of work, and the like. Then, if the problem becomes egregious, the manager may suddenly overreact with a contentious confrontation that results in little long-term behavior change. Or else the manager will try to work around the substandard performance, shifting the workload to top performers on the team rather than addressing reality directly with the person concerned. Bodaken and Fritz provide a step-by-step approach for continuous improvement, in which managers deal with performance issues early on, to help employees face the truth without being made to feel denigrated, inept, or incompetent -- which would only defeat the desired goal of improvement. Moreover, this approach also greatly enhances the manager's own career success.
When managers understand and use this practice, they can produce more top performers and add from 25 to 40 percent more actual capacity to their organization. At Blue Shield of California, for example, more than one thousand managers have been trained in this approach, with impressive, measurable results, helping the company become one of the fastest-growing health care plans in the state. Other companies, all at the top of their industries, are now using MMOT with great success. As widely acclaimed author Peter Senge notes in his foreword, "This is not a book with just a bunch of 'good ideas.' It is a call to a simple but transformative practice, vital to building an organization truly worthy of people's highest achievement."

The "gestalt" of mutual exploration and learning.......2007-02-07
Here's the core concept: the "managerial moment of truth" (MMOT) occurs when a supervisor and someone for whom she or he is directly responsible share a face-to-face interaction during which both are completely honest with each other about a given situation or issue. These interactions can involve praise and recognition for performance "above and beyond the call of duty," constructive criticism offered in response to unacceptable performance or inappropriate behavior, or collaboration on the solution of a problem or obtaining an answer to an especially important question. These and other interactive situations offer unique, potentially invaluable learning opportunities to create a shared experience during which important truth is revealed.
In this volume, Bruce Bodaken and Robert Fritz explain how the "managerial moment of truth approach" - one of mutual exploration and learning - can achieve and then sustain a decisive competitive advantage for any organization, regardless of its size or nature. They assert - and I wholly agree - that all managers must decide whether or not to ignore or explore especially important performance issues, especially in today's world where change is the only constant, especially in the workplace. They focus on how to prepare for and then create moments of "unvarnished" truth of substantial benefit to an individual, work teams, cross-discipline teams, senior management, subcontractor relationships, and strategic alliances. "Today, organizations are faced with sudden shifts in marketplace realities, migrating economics, and the lightning speed of globalization. The organizations that can deal with these changing realities have the best prospect for survival... Those organizations that cannot `handle the truth' will be left in the dust."
Of special interest to me is what Bodaken and Fritz provide in Chapter 7, "The Art of the Question: Exploring Reality." They correctly insist that to obtain the most important answers, it is necessary to ask the right questions. They identify four types of questions that can help to penetrate and reveal reality: information ("to expand the picture when we conduct a MMOT"), clarification ("to help define imprecise or unknown terms"), implication ("to recognize what is implied, and ask the person if it is true") and discrepancy ("to sort out contradictions"). There are two separate but related challenges: to ask the right type of question, and, to persist until a truthful and sufficient answer to it has been obtained. "Questions are a powerful tool for true dialogue and exploration. They enable us to see far beyond our usual vantage point. They guide us through new territories. They open new worlds of possibilities. They are the keys to the MMOT."
In the Foreword, Peter Senge describes the MMOT as "an elegant method that could have a significant impact in terms of "acknowledging present reality, examining people's thinking about hot it got that way, creating a plan for what needs to change, [and] establishing a feedback system to track improvement against that plan." Bodaken and Fritz suggest that those who are convinced of the value of the MMOT try it in small and simple situations first and dedicate themselves to the follow-through. Sense's advice also makes sense. "Do not expect others to implement what you yourself do not. Do not become an advocate for others to change their behavior. Become a practitioner of the managerial moment of truth yourself and ask others around you to help you be a good one." Senge then suggests that those unwilling and/or unable to do so, who "are not ready for this," set this book aside.
In all human communities, trust is the "glue" which holds them together and is almost entirely based on truth in the relationships between and among those involved. Bodaken and Fritz explain in this volume how the MMOT can improve on-the-job performance, of course, but in process will help to strengthen the aforementioned "glue" in ways and to an extent that otherwise would not be possible.
Good, straight-forward approach.......2007-02-07
The approach outlined and exampled many times throughout the book is a must for any manager or management team member. The approach can be used in just about any situation where changes must be made to behavior or decision-making to drive toward meeting expectations. It really drives toward asking many questions to gain better understanding. After seeing the talk by Bodaken on UCTV, I was curious enough to buy the book. I surely have gained some insight to better handle many situations in the workplace and outside the workplace.
Simplistic praticality. .......2006-10-05
The focus here is on increased performance, follows a clearly defined objective with an equally clear road map on how to accomplish that objective. THE MANAGERIAL MOMENT OF TRUTH begins by explaining just what a managerial moment of truth is, and then introduces the acronym MMOT that is used throughout. MMOT is a process that includes identification that what was asked for of a workforce is not what was delivered and the resulting decision of what to do about it.
Author's Bodaken and Fritz introduce, and give working examples of a four-step method that is highly usable in the workforce due to its' simplicity and the ease of seeing what works and what doesn't. Throughout, the book stresses the importance of truth in the work place. Overall, well written with practical advice.
A Book Which Resonates.......2006-08-26
Managerial Moment of Truth has made a great contribution to the literature and practice of performance management. I have worked in this field for 20 years and the process suggested by the authors is brilliant in it's simplicity and focus.
I have already bought dozens of copies for my clients and in evey instance my clients have loved it! It resonates with them as it deals with the "real" world, the everyday world faced by all managers. It also offers managers clear guidelines for having the conversations that are necessary to achieve what's most important for the organization and for the people within it.
The competitive advantage of truth telling.......2006-05-09
This is an excellent book that would benefit any manager or leader to read. It tackles the current hot topic of integrity and honesty in corporate life in a very practical and user-friendly way. The simple 'form' provided by Bodaken and Fritz not only provides a very accessible way for managers and leaders to dramatically improve the performance of their people, but also illustrates how to create a high performance organizational culture and leverage competitive advantage through people. The success of the Managerial Moment of Truth in the Blue Shield organization adds credibility and weight to the approach. I recommend this book to all leaders, managers and coaches.

Moments of Truth.......2006-07-25
In this new millenium it's funny to think how things used to be only 20 years ago. A lot of the principles of this book would be second nature now but it definitely highlights how you can develop a struggling business by focussing on what the customer wants - gee radical thinking!!
I'm of the opinion that it's good to read about the past lest we forget and make the same mistakes - in life and in business.
A good simple read but perhaps a little rose tinted. Left me wanting to know what happened in the late 80's (i.e. part 2).
A great leadership lesson for corporate leaders.......2006-06-01
If you are a business leader, you should read this book. It is a fascinating story of a corporate turnaround.
Moments of truth occur when your company touches a stakeholder and proceeds to deliver products or services that satisfy or disatisfy. It is that simple and yet very difficult to execute consistently.
If you have heard of "Service Maps" or touchpoints where customer contact occurs, my hunch is that the consultant or leader proposing the concept has read this book or been instructed by someone who has.
The book is a good read and provides deep business insights that you can you use to motivate and lead people and organizations.
IF you work for government or non-profit entities you too can learn from this book because its messages and concepts are applicable to all leaders and organizations.

Turning SAS back to the profit zone during the 80s.......2005-03-14
Loyalty to vision, not details of execution is a must.
Middle management must be ignited and dedicated towards serving the market.
In a customer driven company the organization is decentralized with responsibility to make decisions that serve the customer at the front line. Middle level manager must learn that their roles are supportive and not declarative. The Middle level manager is to provide the resources and means allowing his front line to serve the customer.
Initiation of changes must originate from the executive suite. The executive's role is to communicate with employees, impart the company's vision and listen to what the employees need to make the vision a reality. A leader role is to be a visionary, strategist, informer, teacher, and inspirer.
At age 39, Jan Carlzon became President of Vigresor a subsidiary of Scandinavian Airlines Systems (SAS). Carlzon became president over 1,400 employees and immediately started acting out the role he thought he was given. Some of the employees started calling him "ego boy" behind his back characterized by his brash and dictator like commands until Carlzon realized the company was not asking him to make all the decisions on his own, only to create an environment or atmosphere with the right conditions for other to get their job done. Carlzon realized his role was to set the company tone and communicate the big picture with the employees. Vigresor's main function was to contract the flights and get the hotels and package them together for the customer and in the early 70s the company had 210,000 customers and 40,000 tourist package purchases that were unprofitable. The traditional model suggested the company should drive down costs and try to survive with 170,000 customers. Carlzon did not chop costs, instead restructured the organization, making it more flexible and able to handle more should the market bounce back. The market recovered and Vigresor was ready for the increased load and after four years Carlzon was offered the Presidency of Linejeflyg.
In 1978, Linejeflyg had $3 million in loses, passenger load was at 50 percent, 95 percent of the travelers were businessmen, fare rates were determined by airline expenses rather than customer demand levels and customer preferences of the market. Linejeflyg business model catered to business executives who want to fly into Stockholm in the morning and return home in the evening. Carlzon's first conclusion was that it was difficult to make money with an airplane was on the ground. Linejeflyg costs were fixed and the problem was how to increase revenues. Carlzon asks the company's employees to help solve the problem and be a part of the solution to turn the company around. The employees believe in Carlzon and begin participating actively in shaping the companies future. Carlzon believes he must make air travel attractive and increase counts by cutting air fares and getting the planes up in the air more frequently increasing the total hours in the air. Advertising is important and a new slogan is created, "The World's Best Airlines", a bold statement contrary to the norm against bring attention to ones self. Carlzon believes that times have changed and competition is good for the customer. Carlzon moves away from production oriented scheduling to letting the market define what Linejeflyg should produce and sell. Carlzon knows that to fill planes flying during off-peak fares had to be low, so a new campaign is conceived called "Hundred Note" - 100 Swedish kroner designed to attract 5,000 passengers and unexpected it attracted 125,000 passengers; the plan was simple, every knew the meaning a hundred note, and a new types of passengers started flying. Profits were realized when Linejeflyg started selling a $2 breakfast with a 50 cent profit and $1 coffee and bun; revenues increased from $84 million to $105 million with passenger volume increasing 44 percent. Carlzon says, "I succeeded because I reoriented each company towards the needs of the market it servers".
In the early 80s, Carlzon is offered the presidency of SAS. SAS for 17 years has earned a profit and suddenly takes a $20 million dollar loss. The board wants Carlzon to stop the slide into losses and turn the company around into a profit zone. Carlzon realizes that cutting costs is not the answer; the market is in stagnation with zero growth; the cheese slicer approach would cut cost from all departments equally and reduce or eliminate services that the customer wants and is willing to pay for and the cheese slicer approach retains little interest in the customer. Carlzon knows he must bring the best SAS services to market and this is the only solution to increase revenue. Carlzon want to be 100 percent better at one thing and requests $45 millions to improve competitiveness, increase operating costs, and expense $12 million for 147 projects. The board accepts the plan and wisely realizes $25 million in the first year, $40 million in the second year, and $50 million in the third year during a time when the rest of the airline industry was experiencing a $2 billion loss. Also, Carlzon drops the first class and replaces it with Euroclass and does not promote heavily the discount fares. As a part of Euroclass implements moveable partitions, adds telephone and telefax services at hubs, and convenience of their own check in counter and more comfortable seats with better food. Revenues were at $80 million during the first year with a 23% increase in full fare and 7% increase in discount fares.
In 1981, SAS purchases four Airbuses because to used for short flights because of their size and efficiency. The Airbus is large and has bright spacious interiors. The order was for 8 and the cost for the 4 was $120 million. This was not unusual because SAS often replaced aircraft with more technologically advanced models that could fly passengers at a lower cost per seat. The Airbus operate 6 percent cheaper than the DC-9 the work horse for SAS; it also had 240 seats verses 110. Carlzon looked at what the business man who flew SAS wanted. They wanted a non-stop flight from Stockholm to Continential Europe as a service. The Airbus was too expensive to fly this non-stop route. Carlzon switches back to the DC-9 away from the airbus to remain competitive to attract a limited market of Scandinavian business men who want a frequent non-stop flight with convenient schedules that best suite their timetables.
What an Airline CEO Should Be!.......2004-04-23
In this short book, Jan Carlzon relates how he righted three travel companies as CEO by listening to the knowledge accumulated by frontline employees and helping them do their jobs, rather than the other way around. Mr. Carlzon was spectacular in turning around the fortunes of Vingresor, Linjeflyg, and finally SAS. As head of SAS he was able to dispense with business as usual by listening more to the frontline employees, and scrupulously insisting on removing 'yes-men' from his inner circle, a policy that has also served Southwest amazingly well over the years. Although his tenure was not totally without controversy, Carlzon talks frankly about unions (he looks on them as partners and long-term stakeholders), and tough decisions, such as sticking with the trusted DC-9 when other airlines were buying newer planes merely for the sake of having newer planes, despite negative balance sheet implications.
This is a book that should be read by every business major, MBA, and airline employee about what is possible by working together. Sadly in recent US history most airline executives have been self-centered boors who don't care about the airline business, and have no long term stake in the company. Largely they have stayed around a couple of years, raked in millions (in some cases hundreds of millions) of dollars and then left a bankrupt or weak carrier in the lurch. Carlzon makes it clear that he is a capitalist, but a capitalist that realizes that if management and employees work together, solutions can be reached that will benefit all over the long term.
To the Boards of Directors of any airline anywhere I say this: read this book, learn how it should be done, and go out and get a Carlzon-school thinker for every executive position in your company. The long term results will amaze you. I could not recommend this book any more highly.

Moment of Truth begins with what appears to be an open-and-shut case. Jack Newlin, a wealthy attorney with one of the most influential law firms in Philadelphia, killed his wife in a moment of drunken passion, stabbing her repeatedly when she announced she wanted a divorce. Or at least that is what he is claiming to the police.
The fact is, Jack is framing himself because he fears his wife's murder was his daughter's crime of passion. Sixteen-year-old Paige Newlin is a successful model whose relationship with her manager-mother had been famously rocky. To make sure that he's convicted, Jack hires rookie lawyer Mary DiNunzio to defend him. But Mary doesn't buy Jack's story, and neither does the senior detective on the case. In a fascinating turn on the usual courtroom tale, then, Jack struggles to maintain his false story of guilt while his lawyer and the police struggle to prove him innocent. Meanwhile, Mary wrestles with both her uncertainty as a lawyer and with her attraction for her client.
Lisa Scottoline, often identified as the "female John Grisham," has led the pack of female authors in the legal thriller genre, winning an Edgar for her second novel, Final Appeal. Moment of Truth does have moments that don't, in fact, ring true. Why is Jack Newlin so quick to forgive his daughter when he thinks she's killed her own mother? And if he's so concerned with her welfare, why did he absent himself from her upbringing? But it's nonetheless interesting for its innovative plot conceit and its examination of high-profile murder trials. If one is able to overlook the problems with Newlin's motivation, the story Scottoline weaves is a compelling one, and her heroine, Mary, is an enjoyable, self-doubting twist on the super-lawyer at the center of most legal thrillers. --Patrick O'Kelley
Book Description
A winner of the Edgar Award and the bestselling author of six acclaimed novels, Lisa Scottoline has unabashedly earned the distinction "queen of the legal thriller." Critics have celebrated her storytelling talents, noting that she skillfully depicts "personal quirks that give her characters dimension." Publishers Weekly has raved that "Scottoline's legal background lends verisimilitude" to her stories, and Kirkus Reviews has praised her ability to devise terrific plots, proclaiming that she "comes up with the best hooks in the legal trade." Now this gifted author has summoned her array of talents to pen Moment of Truth, her most exciting and unpredictable novel yet--a riveting story of a man who frames himself for murder.
Attorney Jack Newlin comes home one evening to find his wife, Honor, dead on the floor of their elegant dining room. Convinced that he knows who killed her--and determined to hide the truth--Jack decides to make it look as though he did it. Staging the crime scene so that the evidence incriminates him, he then calls the police. And to hammer the final nail in his own coffin, he hires the most inexperienced lawyer he can find, a reluctant rookie by the name of Mary DiNunzio, employed at the hot Philadelphia firm of Rosato & Associates.
Unfortunately for Jack, hiring Mary may turn out to be his only mistake.
Though inexperienced, Mary doubts Jack's confession and begins to investigate the crime. She finds that instead of having a guilty client who is falsely proclaiming his innocence, she has an innocent client who is falsely proclaiming his guilt. Her ethics and instincts tell her she can't defend a man who wants only one thing--to convict himself. Or can she? Smarter, gutsier, and more determined than she has any right to be, Mary decides to stick with the case. With help from the most unexpected sources, she sets out to prove what really happened--because as any lawyer knows, a case is never as simple as it seems.
And nothing is ever certain until the final moment of truth.

A father's love.......2006-12-11
Jack Newlin is a successful lawyer whose home life is less than ideal. His wife Honor is obsessed with making their daughter Paige into a model and she stops at nothing to realize her dreams through her child. Paige rebels and moves into her own apartment at age 16. When Jack comes home and finds Honor dead, he feels that Paige is the murderer, so he turns himself in to the police and confesses to the killing in order to protect his daughter. He hires Mary DiNunzio to defend him because he knows that she is a novice where murder cases are concerned. What he doesn't count on is Mary's investigative skill and dogged perserverance, along with a more personal reason for her wanting Jack to be exonerated. This is one of Scottoline's usual fast-paced, female attorney tales. It lacks some suspense as some of the early pieces to the puzzle become evident fairly early in the book, but Scottoline manages to keep a few secrets until the end to keep her readers turning the pages.
More Twists than a Philly Pretzel.......2006-05-27
Overall I enjoyed listening to this book. However, I felt as though it had a little too many twists and turns. I agree with another review that it sort of tanked at the end. But, I would still recommend it.
The book takes place in Philadelphia. Since I am originally from this city and I currently work down there is was pleasant to hear all of the references to Philly's land marks.
Also, there were a lot of Catholic references through out the book. Considering that is how I was raised, I could relate very much to the main character.
Finally one of reviews on this site mention a lot of foul language. Give me a break. That is how people talk. Especially when they are going through what all of the characters of this book are dealing with. It made the dialog more genuine. Get over it.
More Foul Language.......2006-03-24
Mystery with an interesting twist. Why not write good stuff WITHOUT all the foul language? The cursing and taking God's name in vain doesn't make it more of a mystery, it makes it low level reading. How about raising the standard and give your characters something new to say when excited and scared??
Funny book.......2006-03-15
For those who have never read Ms. Scottoline's books, please pick one up and start. Ms. Scottoline is a beautiful woman who projects her beauty and intellectual to her writing. This book is fills with suspenses and fun to read. So who kills the lady?? The rich successful husband?? Well, I will tell you. It's the ...................
How will the lawyers save him, he's so guilty!!!!!!!!
Fast, entertaining read.......2006-02-01
I like Lisa Scottoline. Her novels read fast, have a good balance of drama inside and outside the courtroom, and feature characters that are reappear in various novels and are easy to get attached to. This novel features Mary DeNunzio, a young, somewhat sheepish lawyer who gets involved in her first murder case, which turns out to be even more complicated than she expected. It's a good story, and I finished it wanting more.
Book Description
Life was one big act for wrestling super star Steve Borden, a.k.a. Sting. On the home front, however, his marriage faltered on the brink of failure while he took the fast track in his wrestling career-and to a radical entertainer lifestyle, including an addiction to prescription drugs. Confessing his problems to his wife was the beginning of a process that brought the prideful, self-sufficient champion to his knees. It was to be the greatest wrestling match of his life, and God was taking him to the mat.
God had been planting seeds in Borden's life from the time he entered professional wrestling-his brother and sisters's conversions and witnesses, his family's prayers, the witness of wrestler Ted Dibiasi-and the peace and joy he saw in the lives of other Christians. Now, the confrontation by his wife, whom he didn't want to lose, plus the fear of life without his two young sons, made his fame and fortune worthless. He was humbled. That was in August 1998. Sting became a new man in Christ and his marriage was restored. Today, he drops scriptures into conversation as easily and naturally as he once dropped opponents in the ring. He still loves a challenge, but where he once relied on a fluorescent face and shocking stunts, he now tackles each challenge with a firm faith in Christ alone.

Sting: The Moment Of Truth.......2007-03-14
I would deffinately recommend this book as well asthe DVD it was awesome!!
The Main Event Of Life.......2007-03-07
Steve Borden was at the ultimate crossroads of his life.
As the character, Sting, he achieved iconic status in professional wrestling, one of a few performers who could tear the roof off of any arena in the world with his persona and signature finishing moves for victory.
But Sting couldn't assist Steve Borden on that day in August 1998, the ring makeup was off and it wasn't about the promoters & fans, it was about family. Addicted to prescription drugs and years of living a fast-lane lifestyle of a pop star, Steve Borden was on the verge of losing his wife and two young children.
It was his moment of truth.
The reader takes the journey with Steve Borden as he puts his ego aside and confronts the demons that are damaging not only his soul, but destroying the ones who love him the most.
This is a side of Steve Borden that you may not know about before picking up the book; it's how he got on his knees, raised his arms and looked up to the sky to accept the ultimate guidance in the main event of life.
Christians.......2006-02-22
This book is a great and helpful book for christians who have fallen off their path. Sting is one of my favorite wrestlers. I am very proud to say that because he is a christian. I cant wait for the movie to come out. I do believe that the book was short and sweet but I wanted it to be longer.
really a moment of truth.......2006-02-16
STING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY FAVORITE OF ALL TIME FINALLY WRITES ONE OF THE GREATEST WRESTLING BOOKS EVER. IF YOU LIKE STING BUY THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!
Written straight from the heart..........2006-01-12
OK, so maybe it DOESN'T deserve 4 stars, but it is one of the rare books that move you and that make you feel touched.
Just like Castaneda's Journey to Ixtlan book, it contains life story of a man who felt reformed by, in Borden's book, some Higher Good and faith in something UNmundane.

Had it all !.......2006-11-21
I love Sally John's books! This one had it all - cops and bad guys, homeless shelters, church, mystery, adventure, new love, friends, and interesting twists. But without any of the gore. And never boring. The Christian message is solid without being overdone. I could not put this book down until I made sure Cara's life turned out okay. It is a VERY clever story.
Book Description
It’s no secret that what you don’t know can hurt you. In spite of that, we still go out of our way at times to avoid the truth. Men avoid doctors and women deny evidence of adultery. While the truth often hurts, deceiving ourselves will ultimately only worsen the situation. In this nine-part DVD and eight-part companion study guide, we listen in as Jesus introduces some rather perplexing truth to seven individuals who had grown comfortable with their misinformed lifestyles and belief systems. Readers will discover firsthand that the truth can set you free. And for those who have the courage to embrace it, their lives will be changed forever.
Face the Truth
Life is full of defining moments. Like landmarks on a road map, these moments mark key points along your life’s journey. A defining moment happens when you come face-to-face with a truth that invites you to change the way you live. It demands that you make a decision. And regardless of the choice you make, you will never be the same.
In this eight-part companion study guide to the Defining Moments DVD, bestselling author Andy Stanley examines several such moments as depicted in the lives of people from Scripture—the kinds of moments many of us will experience in our lifetimes. And if you’re willing to look at truth honestly, these moments can change your life forever.
Story Behind the Book
While working to develop a series that would introduce people to a new mind-set about the way they live their lives, Andy Stanley discovered the influence that defining moments have. Now, after teaching this principle to his staff, church, and through the extended home study groups of North Point Community Church , this DVD and study guide material are releasing to a national audience through North Point’s relationship with Multnomah.

In a successful action adventure script, there are more than just hot pursuits and hotheaded slugfests. This book investigates the screenwriting principles that define the content and style of the most popular film genre.

Misleading and unorganized.......2007-04-18
This book seems to be written by amatures!
It is unorganized, I could not follow the subject that the author is explaining.
It is a research book rather that intended for eduaction.
If you want to write a film, please ignore this book.
If you are a regular movie goer, take it, if you have a spare of 10 $.Probably you will know more about the dynamics of the action film
Don't Waste Your Money.......2003-06-19
The positive reviews here obviously come from Hicks' pals (check out his website). The book is poorly-written, incoherent, and gives no specific (or recognizable) advice on how to write an action film. It is basically a rambling (and very odd)discourse on the history of war movies.
I can highly recommend Tobin, Epstein, Martell, and Walker if you want to learn how to write action--or any other--films.
A lot of fluff.......2002-12-08
Not a lot of substance here. I did not find this book at all useful, a waste of money over all. A lot of talk about nothing specific, writer wonders around willy nilly, and no real how tos. Information such as formatting of action elements, or just how specific you should be when writing action scenes would have been much better served here, but alas, not to be. Books such as Crafty Screenwriting or Screenwriters Bible go much, much further.
Want to understand the Action Adventure Genre? This is it!.......2002-05-03
If you want to understand the Action Adventure Genre, this is THE book. Great models, insights, rules to use or break.
Neill Hicks is a screenwriter who's written scripts that have been made into successful hit movies -- Rumble in The Bronx, First Strike. There are a lot of books on screenwriting written by people who are still trying to see their script go to production, let alone be a hit. This book's wisdom, insight and practial observations and advice shows why Hicks made it.
He has a very nice across genre model of protagonist characteristics which he also mentioned more briefly in his previous book, Screenwriting 101-- another excellent source.
A straightforward, sensible, "user friendly" primer.......2002-04-09

Hicks ("Rumble in the Bronx"; "First Strike") is a straightforward, sensible, "user friendly" primer for creating a solid screenplay specifically for one of the most popular movie genres in America. I don't regret reading it, just didn't get much out of it. There are literally thousands of Bridge books, and some are a lot better than this.
Read some of the others rather than this.

Book Description
The authors argue that a paradigm shift is needed with regard to brand management. Many companies and organizations have seen brand management as a narrow marketing activity and this has resulted in weak brands. By contrast they argue for a holistic approach to branding with the brand at the center of a value-based approach and the focal point of business strategy. They show how to develop brand strategy and brand engagement as part of a brand-centric organization.
