12 gifts are right on target.......2006-09-02
The Gift is an excellent book. The 12 Tools are right on target. Just by reading the cover it points you in the correct direction for personal growth.
When you study what he writes in the book it all makes sense and you can see how it will help you in your life and lives of others. Each day I try and give the gifts for my own fulfillment and the fulfillment of others. If everyone followed the 12 gifts the world would be a nicer place..
If you combine this with Self Talk you can change your life. Self Talk is the most important thing to learn to take control of. Once you have mastered that and follow the 12 gifts anything seems possible. I wish I had this type of material when I was a kid. I will be sharing Dr. Shad Helmstetters Techniques with my kids and wife. I highly recommend this book and Shad's other materials.

Honest and fast service.......2007-06-18
I need this book before I start nursing school this fall. I think I ordered this book on Friday and received it on a Monday. Anyway,
ftorres, the vendor, is very honest and prompt. The book I ordered IS like new and an undamaged CD-ROM did accompany it. Thanks FTORRES, whoever you are. I'd buy another book from this guy any time.
As for the book itself, it delivers what it's supposed to in terms of a basic grasp of medical calculations. Very practical as its applied to the current pharmaceutical market.

A must have for every student nurse, nurse and nurse practitioner.......2006-07-07

Great Math Review for Nurses.......2006-04-01
We had to complete this entire book before beginning our LPN nursing coursework. It is a great book!
It explains concepts thoroughly and gives plenty of examples so you can go step-by-step to calculate new problems. The answers are in the back so you can check your work before you move on to a new concept.
I've used is several times as a resource throughout my LPN year. Highly recommended.
Calculate w/ Confidence is Right!.......2005-09-30
I am using this book for my current Nursing program, and thus far has been very helpful. It breaks everything down, and gives several examples and opportunities for practice. It also builds on everything you've already learned so that you can see how to apply it. I found the pre-test and post-test to be great so that you can gain an understanding of what your math level is before and after reviewing the 1st 8 chapters. If you are already good at basic math, you can skip the first 8 chapters because they are just a review. Overall, a great book, and not hard to understand.

Finally, a book that allows us men to remain men while still pursuing a healthy relationship with women........2007-07-31
I read this book over and over again while highlighting and taking notes. In the first chapter I was able to identify with the author, and acknowledge that I was the type of guy to whom he was referring.
If you are like me, and suddenly lose all sense of self once you meet a woman that intrigues you on all levels, you NEED this book. Most of the content is very relevant to day to day dating, and acts as a quick reference guide to almost any situation. I bought this three months into dating a girl I really like and it immediately helped me overcome certain insecurities while allowing me to still be myself and give the girl I'm dating the ability to choose me. It's refreshing! Finally I understand how to be the "real" me in any dating situation, and how to feel confident no matter what the outcome may be.
I wouldn't recommend this book to men who are looking to just get laid, or who view women as objects. This book is for guys like me, who, believe there is something real out there, and are willing to work hard on themselves and take the necessary time to have "it."
More than dating.......2007-06-12
I agree with much in the positive reviews, such as those by The Capitol and Mr. Maslanka. We can all agree that the world of personal relationships offers a vast subject that no one book - or even many - can or will ever cover completely. Furthermore, the tips and tricks change as the culture changes: what's in this book would have been inappropriate in 1900 and may be outdated by 2010 (who knows?) So dating books are a bit like the blind men and the elephant - everyone knows something, no one has the full picture. But this short tome offers an excellent, succinct approach that promotes honest and direct communication with the object(s) of your affections. Each chapter deals with a different dimension of the dating relationship, and offers a clearly defined method for 'managing' it. The approach permits - even encourages - honest self-evaluation, improvement and growth with integrity. That's a lot better than macho methods that retail themselves like dimestore aphrodisiacs. The book could also be read profitably for advice on communication generally - with friends or family or in business. Like other things, it will be an amusing, idle read for those who do not put its lessons into practice. Those who do, however, will be well-positioned to learn interesting, positive things about themselves and how they relate to others.
All News is Good News.......2007-05-13
The more I read thees books the more value they have to business. A client, ceo of a small company, once told me that ,in business, all news is good news---you must know where you stand and the context you are operating in. True in business, and---as Fenton demonstrates---true in dating. Find out at the outset if there is any interest and,if not, move on. One other example. I try lawsuits and when you do, a key is to empower the jury to decide so that their answers come from them, from the bottom up, not imposed by you, from the top down. Fenton uses the "Opening No" technique where he advises that empowering a woman by telling her, upfront, that a "no, I am not interested" is OK. This takes off the pressure(on both her as well as the male) , making room for considered and, yes, ethical decision making. There is other good stuff, boiled down to 127 pages.
a clear, concise start for anyone looking to improve in the dating game........2007-02-20
When I first purchased this book, I was purchasing it for the sheer hell of it as I had bought about 5-6 other books on the wide world of dating. Fenton lies out a clear, concise formula for greater success with women both on the first date and after the first date. This isn't a pickup book though, there are no clever lines or strategies to get to that first date, although you could apply some of the first date techniques to pre-first dates as well. There are no magical spots to meet women here, when to call, etc. However, it is a book that will explain a great deal of misconceptions many guys, including myself, have about women and what buttons to push and not to push for gaining that compatibility factor with any woman. More importantly, this book gives you the right mindset in dealing with the opposite sex. Perhaps, that's more important than many of these "pickup 101" and "where and how to seduce women" books. Because if you don't have the right mindset, you can read the player books all you want, but it won't make a damn bit of difference if you lack confidence and the right frame of mind around women. That being said, the four star rating is largely due to the fact that some scenarios the author envisions, I just can't see happening too often. The wording that Fenton suggests in some scenarios seems a little too wordy and almost without a doubt, forced in some cases. Overall, a solid book and I'd recommend "always talk to strangers" by David Wygant for a solid pair of books on the enormous realm of dating.
READS LIKE A UNIVERSITY THESIS ON MALE/FEMALE DYNAMICS..........2007-01-30
... and obviously a great deal of thought went into the analysis of every aspect of the female psyche during the writing of this book, which ironically represents the biggest problem your average frustrated chump encounters when trying to meet women - overanalyzing something that should be fairly simple if you're a guy with a cool vibe who's got his act together.
Although I haven't written a book on the subject (yet), my belief is that playful flirting - without serious intent and being indifferent as to the outcome - is always the best approach. Just play it cool, keep it light and go with the flow. Do this consistently and you will achieve positive results.
But if your real problem isn't so much meeting women as much as being the guy who always seems to find himself suffering from migraines due to high-maintenance relationships with difficult/demanding women expecting you to supplicate to them (ie: typical North American ballbreakers with entitlement complexes and/or attitude problems), maybe it's time to think outside the box and consider a more global perspective... perhaps finding a kinder, gentler kind of woman with a sweet disposition and nurturing instinct, like an Oriental woman from the Philippines, or a sexy and passionate South American female who can appreciate a man who makes no apologies for being one (hello, Rio de Janeiro) might be the cure for what ails you... if you'll open your mind to the possibilities, there's many other very appealing options out there that you're missing out on.

"Color Confidence is one book that no photographer, especially me, can afford to be without!"
Art Morris, Photographer (www.birdsasart.com)
Establishing a successful color management workflow that produces predictable results is an important -- yet tricky -- undertaking. Most photographers are all too familiar with the frustration of a print not matching the image on the monitor. In
Color Confidence, digital imaging expert Tim Grey provides the crucial information you need to get the color you want, every time.
His results-oriented guide shows you how to manage color effectively across all devices. He demystifies complicated topics and takes you through each component of a color-managed workflow step-by-step.
Designed for busy photographers, this full-color guide cuts through the theory, focusing on the practical information you need to make the best color decisions from capture to output.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent book.......2007-08-08
This is the best book that I have used on this subject. Clear explanations, illustrations, etc.
Excellent.......2007-06-16
A really very useful book that explains a complex subject about as clearly as you could hope for. Covers a great range of topics beyond color management. I highly recommend this book.
Good book if you are searching for a step by step guide........2007-01-25
I was really disapointed by the book. I wanted something that would have been closer to the theories and technicals aspects of color profiles. This is mainly a step by step book to follow with specific software (or even hardware) to reach some goal. It is very software and hardware specific - not generic. I learned more about "how color profiles works together" on websites than in the book.
Much Needed Book.......2006-06-19
Digital photographers don't pay enough attention to color management. This book is exactly what is needed to remedy that lack. You'll find all the basics here, and enough in-depth information to start you on the road to calibrating and fine-tuning your digital equipment to accurately reproduce the colors you see.
Just What You need.......2006-01-06
This is exactly what I was looking for; it gives a quick in-and-out overview of colour management, with detailed information about calibration and profiles. Other books on this topic are twice the size, which I don't think is necessary for most people.
It goes into very good detail, with task-by-task instructions, and is well-organised and clear (One reviewer claims that it was "poorly edited and conceived"; I didn't have any of the problems they did).

War is hell, but if you prepare properly for war, there's not much about life that will take you by surprise. At least, that's the premise of Unleashing the Warrior Within, in which author Richard Machowicz takes the lessons he learned as a Navy SEAL and applies them to real-life situations.
For example, in war you learn that there are three dynamic elements of combat: target, weapons, and movement. The target dictates the weapons, and the weapons dictate movement. In real life, your target is what you want; your weapons are your skills; and movement is whatever you need to get in position to use your skills.
But, since deciding upon a target is the step that's most troubling to people, he adds another wartime analytical tool called the CARVER matrix. You lay out various targets you may have in life--a better job; getting in shape; buying a new house; and taking on a new business partner, say. Then you assess the criticality, accessibility, recognizability, and vulnerability of the target, plus its effect on your overall mission in life, and the potential return on your effort.
Machowicz calls his philosophy Bukido, and when you take his classes in Los Angeles, you learn self-defense along with these life-improvement skills. In this book, the object is to get you to choose a mission that is closest and most important to you, and then achieve your goals with military precision. By the time you're through learning the seven principles of combat, what you've really learned is how to think critically and focus your efforts. Machowicz uses his students as examples of how the enemy in life is really a lack of action, allowing life to take you along for a ride. So if your current target is a solid self-improvement course, Unleashing the Warrior Within could be your most effective weapon. --Lou Schuler
Book Description
Richard Machowicz knows first hand that life can be a lot like war. A ten-year veteran of the Navy SEALs, he was trained to complete whatever mission was handed to him, under any condition, because failure was not an option. Now, in Unleash the Warrior Within, Machowicz takes the winning attitude and mental skills he mastered in service and shows readers how to use combat mentality to reach their goals in everyday life. Using his seven principles of combat—which include Create an Action Mind-Set, The Critical Keys to Conquering Anything, and Guarantee the Win—Machowicz shows readers how to master the arts of focus, discipline, and determination under any circumstances, giving them the tools they need to conquer fear and turn their ambitions and dreams into reality. A new preface is included in this paperback edition of this inspiring guide. “Machowicz gives you the tools necessary to ensure that you win in the battle of life.”—Jim Rome, host of the nationally syndicated radio show, The Jungle, and FOX television’s The Last Word
Customer Reviews:
Great book to get yourself focused on achieving your goals.......2007-06-28
On the surface this book may appear to be either similar to many of the other ex-military books describing the life of a member of the special forces or a self-help type book geared towards males. It actually falls somewhere in between. Unlike other books about Navy Seals that tell you what it took physically, this tells you what it took mentally and psychologically to persevere through BUD/S training. The anecdotes about Machowicz's life in the Seals is the backdrop to a mental discipline he describes in straight forward language. The book describes many mental techniques to keep you moving forward towards what you really want to do, as well as finding out what is holding you back. One of the more useful concepts in the book was a simple exercise that shows you where you should really be spending your time and effort. Like Sun Szu's Art of War being applied to the corporate world, this ex-Navy Seal's experience can be applied to your daily life. While many psychological based books tell you how you should run your life, this one simply provides you with psychological tools and leaves the rest to you. Anyone feeling like they are in a rut or find their goals just out of reach should read this book.
Good Read.......2007-05-09
I judge all books that I read by a simple parameter - If I can get at least 1 worthwhile thought, piece of knowledge, or idea from any book that I read - then it was well worth it. This book gave me a few great concepts - with the most notable for me being "You can ALWAYS do more than you THINK you can". I am sure Richard Machowicz attained this thought process from his Navy Seal days...but I have used the concept frequently since I have read the book to help me attain higher results in a variety of situations than I may have previously. For me - that's a winner.
Focus and direction in a cheap paperback!.......2007-04-11
I tend to be one of those people with a million ideas but never enough time to finish them all. This book offers a unique method to rank and prioritize goals that I found to be very helpful in deciding what is worth pursuing and what should be put off for later. I've found it much more useful than any other time-management system I've learned, including expensive corporate-sponsored Franklin Covey courses on focus and time management. And so cheap compared to a corporate seminar!
MUST HAVE! MUST READ!.......2007-03-15
This is not so much a "self help" book as it is more for "self worth!" In it, Mack teaches you how to tap into your potential, to make yourself a stronger, more confident person. Being in law enforcement, I must recommend this book to all my brothers and sisters in blue!
Fighting Your Demons.......2006-12-16
In this relatively short book, the author encourages civilains battling everyday problems to use the principles of combat to succeed. A former Navy SEAL, the author intersperses his techniques with anecdotes from his SEAL experience.
The writing is terse and the book ends abruptly but his adventures as a SEAL are both harrowing and fascinating. However, the weakness of the book is the heavy military vernacular and the paucity of examples where his system is applied to mundane struggles. His system is certainly time tested but resistance based (everything is a fight and involves knocking down targets). While his personal journey is impressive, his system is unwieldy particuarly when compared with some of the better Law of Attraction materials so popular today.
This book provides a tough, no nonsense approach to life and goal setting. The demanding SEAL regimen leaves no room for error or lack of committment. However, implementing the system may be too challenging for most.

Customer Reviews:
So-so.......2007-09-10
Good basics but probably more for the new long-distance cyclist. I felt it a bit redundant and perhaps 1/2 of the book was actually helpful to read. Written in an easy-to-read fashion.
Very slim on content.......2007-08-02
I am a subscriber to Bicycling magazine. Every month I eagerly open the latest issue and almost without exception am disappointed in the lack of substantial content. Most articles are superficial at best, stating obvious facts and making suggestions of questionable value. If you have had a similar experience with the Bicycling the magazine then you already know what you will find in this book.
There is surprising little useful content here. Equipment tips and suggestions are generally useless. For instance much attention is given to the benefit of clipless pedals. Well duh!!! Important topics for long distance cycling such as working out a comfortable saddle system are given almost no useful coverage (usually something like "get a saddle which is comfortable"). Most of the chapters as they relate to equipment are quite dated and need to be revised.
Topics such as Lactic Threshold, heart rate monitoring, and training strategies are introduced but unless they are completely new to you the discussions of each are not likely to be useful.
I generally could not bring myself to completely read any of the suggestions and skimmed through most of the book. I did find a couple of pieces worth reading but to be honest I can not recall them at the moment.
My advice is to skip this book. Anything of value that could be found in it could also be easily found on any of a number of websites devoted to cycling and training. For an excellent alternative book covering a lot of useful training discussion see "Cycling Past 50" by Joel Friel. Despite the title, riders of all ages will find wonderful discussions of training physiology and strategies which will apply well to your long distance goals.
Now if someone would just would make a cycling magazine that is worth reading so I can relegate "Bicycling" to the bathroom stall with Mens Health and Outside..........
Good but not systematic.......2007-05-13
I was a bit disappointed with this book. The title implies that the authors present a systematic way of building skill and endurance for long distance cycling. Instead, it is more of a collection of tips. The content is still worthwhile.
Calling All Cyclists.......2007-04-09
Cyclists of all levels should check out these training tips. Even those not doing long distance can find a lot of useful information.
Love it!!.......2007-03-16
I absolutely think this book is terrific. You must read every word. It has much useable info on some very important subjects such as nutrition, prep, etc. Even if you are not doing long distance, this book is a must!!!!

A frustrated grade school artist, Vashti sits slumped over her blank piece of paper at the end of art class. "I just CAN'T draw!" she tells her teacher. Her teacher first uses wit, then subtle yet clever encouragement to inspire her student to go beyond her insecurities and become, in the words of a younger boy who "can't" draw either, "a really great artist."
Peter H. Reynolds crafts a quiet, pleasing story in The Dot--one that will strike a chord with children who have outgrown the self-assurance of kindergarten and begun to doubt their own greatness. His marvelous watercolor, ink, and, yes, tea illustrations are appealing in a Quentin Blakey way, especially as Vashti begins to go wild with her dots. The delightfully open-ended conclusion will have readers of all ages contemplating how they can make their own mark in the world. Highly recommended. (Ages 5 to 9) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
With a simple, witty story and free-spirited illustrations, Peter H. Reynolds entices even the stubbornly uncreative among us to make a mark - and follow where it takes us.
Her teacher smiled. "Just make a mark and see where it takes you."
Art class is over, but Vashti is sitting glued to her chair in front of a blank piece of paper. The words of her teacher are a gentle invitation to express herself. But Vashti can’t draw - she’s no artist. To prove her point, Vashti jabs at a blank sheet of paper to make an unremarkable and angry mark. "There!" she says.
That one little dot marks the beginning of Vashti’s journey of surprise and self-discovery. That special moment is the core of Peter H. Reynolds’s delicate fable about the creative spirit in all of us.

Big kids and The Dot.......2007-09-16
I'm a middle school art teacher. I read the book to every class on the first day. Then, I gave them a few different media to use, (watercolor, oil pastels, markers) and asked them to "make a dot and see where it takes you" We made two rules, you had to know where your original dot was and you had to work for 15 minutes. The results are great and we are off to a great start. I also own ISH by the same author and use it a little later in the semester.
Every kid and most adults ..........2007-03-07
... need the empowering message delivered in this book. Simple and straight forward with a zinger of a last line of dialog. You won't forget this book.
The perfect gift.......2007-02-14
Anyone who works with children and reaches out to give them a sense of self-worth deserves this book as a gift. It is simple, gentle and touching. The Dot is the story of a child who is frustrated with the artwork she makes until a teacher tells her simply, "sign it". That small interaction gives the girl the confidence to take chances and grow until, ultimately, she's the one saying "sign it". This book speaks to the idea that teachers really do touch eternity...they never know where their influence will stop. If you have a favorite teacher, give him/her this book.
Great confidence booster!.......2007-01-10
A beautifully written book to inspire all ages to be more courageous.
