A very good historical/ romantic suspence book.......2007-07-27
I really liked this book, both Alexandra and Lord Thorpe were likable characters. The suspense plot was very good, it kept me guessing till the end. This is a good read, fast paced (though it starts out a bit slow), romantic, and suspenseful, as Alexandra sets out to find her true identity and Sebastian protects her. Their relationship went from acquaintance/attraction, to fighting, to truce, to friendship/love. And while both characters are flawed (Alexandra annoyed me a bit, sometimes), they are both likable and strong protagonists.
A very good romantic suspense story. Recommended!
Now I'm off to read book two of this trilogy!
Only an average read.......2004-12-17
I loved "So Wild a Heart", and on the strength of that book, I bought some other books by Candace Camp. So far, I have not found another book that is as interesting. Certainly it was not this one, even thought I am not unglad that I read it, as it starts off a series, but this book on its own did not pull me in. It was certainly a pleasant read, and even though some other reviewers complained about the extra-ordinary amount of kidnappings I did not find that a terribly impossible scenario - I think it was just the way it was dealt with that made it come across as a little unlikely.
In this book, we have Alexandra, one of Candace Camp's independent and self-possessed heroines, meet Lord Sebastian Thorpe. Alexandra's family owns a shipping company, and she uses business as an excuse to visit Lord Sebastian - as she really wants to see his Indian collection. As is on par for Ms. Camp's heroines, she refuses to be cowed by the haughty and ufriendly Lord Sebastian, and Sebastian responds well to her methods, so that at the end, we have a match.
Maybe it was just me, but I just could never quite warm up to Alexandra, or Sebastian. I never quite found that "spark" in either of them that would make me want to read more about them, nor did I find their characters to get developed in any meaningful way. As a result, I think that for me this book pretty much rested on the plot, which was okay, but not enough to keep me riveted to the page.
I really like Candace Camp's writing style, and there was nothing particularly jarring about this story, but in the end there was nothing to really recommend this book either. A pleasant, but average read, only three stars.
or 3 & 1/2 -- good but hardly great.......2004-07-27
A Stolen Heart is an interesting read with both romance and intrigue. Intelligent, forthright, capable Alexandra finds herself immediately attracted to her new, somewhat reclusive business partner, Lord Thorpe. Then she finds herself repeatedly in danger. As they try to unravel the mystery--a mystery that includes her real identity and his doubts about her true purpose and trustworthiness--their attraction just grows.
Sometimes this book is thoroughly entertaining; other times it stretches credulity. Sometimes the characters & situations seem vital and fresh; other times it seems a rehash of every romance ever written. All-in-all, it's an enjoyable read, but there are moments of disappointment and frustration. While decent, it's not one of Camp's best. Perhaps it's just too farfetched at times; perhaps there's not enough character development.
Ii enjoyed it, but wouldn't buy it.
A Good Read Except.........2001-01-27
As a fan of Candace Camp and because I had read the second book in this series I bought A Stolen Heart and was very anxious to read it. I found it to be a good book even though it started out slow. I enjoyed the characters, especially Alexandra and Lord Sebastian Thorpe. My only complaint with this book is all the situations Alexandra found herself in. I mean first she's kidnapped and taken to a brothel and then at a ballon show someone tries to abduct her and while Lord Thorpe is trying to rescue her they somehow end up in the ballon and are floating away to destinations unknown. And then to top it off are picked up by a highwayman. How many situations like this can one find themselves in? Except for this I thought the book was really fantastic and couldn't put it down until I read the last word. Definitely a keeper!
Strong characters - interesting story, can't wait for next!.......2000-06-28
It is always great to read about a strong, smart heroine in a regency romance novel. On top of that, she runs her own business which is refreshing. The attraction between the two characters were believable from the start and you want them to get it together so badly throughout the novel. The story about Alexandra's parents & background is also very interesting. I kept looking for signs of her brother and sister in the book. Will there be a story about the highwayman that help them? This is a great story with great characters that pull you in.

Customer Reviews:
The congressman and his secretary stands out in this collection!.......2007-09-13
3 stories here. The main one, Stolen Heart, is a regency piece on court intrigues, royalty and aristocracy. The plot started off well and the idea of a mysterious masked handsome thief pairing a bratty aristocrat is romantically appealing. I like Yukine Honami's artwork but here it just doesn't feel regency. The story is somewhat rushed towards the end. The sex could have been much more explicit as there is nothing innocent about the 2 characters. The final chapter on the thief's long lost brother has potential but too bad it is not explored deeper. On the other hand, if I do not compare every regency Yaoi with Yoshinaga's brilliant "Gerard and Jacques" and "Lovers in the night", "Stolen Heart" is a pretty good read.
The second story on a student and the Student Council's President is just weird. Could not understand this or is it the translation again. Good thing this is short. However the hyperactive student is a cute contrast to the laid back Student Council's President.
My favorite is the last story on a Congressman and his secretary, which is really good. Collin is a successful congressman well on his way to be re-elected. And why not ? He is everything a successful politician should be. He is young, handsome, rich and smart with no dirty laundry, except of course his hidden sexual preference. There are some pretty cool political lines here and both Collin and Paul are very likable. I like how it all pans out for this couple.

I ordered the first 4 books republished by the MISSION CITY PRESS....they have been re-written making it easier to understand. I have read all 4 of them aloud to my youngest two children. My 16 year old read them all in about 10 days...she could not put the books down... My 12 year old and 10 year old loved them and could not wait for bed time to hear the next events unfold. This is a great Christian Series and I recommend it to ALL ages! We are anticipating the release of the next books.

WHAT AN INCREDIBLE STORY! This is the best book yet. It is such a captivating story you just can't wait to see how it is going to turn out. It is sure a good reminder that wolves sometimes come in sheep's clothing and you cannot always trust your emotions. Every girl who is even considering dating needs to read this book!

Stacey loves selling hearts. Until someone is stealing them and bringing them in a place she never expected to see.
Good enough for a "Cute" Plot........1998-09-26
Stacey and the Stolen Hearts was good, but it didn't receve 5 stars in my point of view. I am a huge fan of the Baby-sitters' Club siries, But this didn't win over on me. I prefeer more dramaic mysteries (like Mystery 36 for example). I got a few laughs out of it, but other than that it didn't require me to think that much.
It was an okay book.......1998-09-07
Stacey and the Stolen Hearts wasn't that great. The back makes it sound interesting. Someone has stolen the valentine-grams, and posting them all over school. The mystery was okay, but when you found out who it was, they made the end confusing and boring. It would be good for a rainy day, but borrow it from a friend, or the library. It's not worth your money.
I really liked this book.......1998-07-05
If you are looking for a good BSC book then this is it! This was one of my favorite books. The robber is someone in SMS and i'll give you a hint that it's not Robert! Way to go Ann M!
An okay book........1998-06-24
I rate this book 4 stars because it was okay but not great. Stacey and the other BSC members had to try and stop the person who was stealing the valentine-grams. I'll give you one clue who it was: It was somebody at SMS (not Cokie). That's all I'm going to say.

Adventure and Mystery in a Hot Romance.......1998-08-24
STOLEN HEARTS is a wonderful, fast-paced and compelling story that more than lived up to this reader's expectations. Fans of historical romance get an added bonus of mystery in following Mattie Crawford, seamstress with a secret past, from New York to Colorado to elude a false accusation of theft. She meets more than she bargains for in Lord Cameron, an English nobleman with secrets of his own, who must marry an heiress to save his family estates. Their fiery passion is well balanced against the villainous Devlin, who pursues Mattie for his own revenge. Don't miss this quality read from a rising star in romance!
5 stars!!! All I can say is, "WOW!".......1998-08-05
If this is an example of what we can expect from Ms. Pisacreta in future books, her career will be bright, indeed! Impressive use of history, an amiable heroine, and a hero to knock your socks off. WOW is not a strong enough response for this reader. :)
Outstanding!.......1998-07-30
If this is Ms. Pisacreta's debut work, then all I can say is, "WOW!!!" Looking forward to a lot more books from this very talented, masterful author.

The Art Of Love.......2004-08-27
Jacquelin Thomas writes an emotional spell bound story that leads one to realize that love can never be conquered but instead love will conquer all things even hard head and strong willed souls.
Raven Christopher knew the day she told her best friend, her lover, and her soul mate the truth about who she really was she was losing out on a life time of happiness after realizing that her heart was at risk she did what she thought was wise but when the love child that they shared is kidnap she has no choice but to attempt to get Andre Simon to understand her motives and help her find their child.
Andre Simon knew when Raven came to him that his life was about to get turned upside down after she left him and he realized who she really was his life was never quite the same so when she reappears speaking about his child he did what he knew best and told her to get out of his house and leave him alone but when he starts to put the pieces together he begins to realize could it really be true.
Andre and Raven take the chances of trusting each other enough to find their love child Julian but does Andre have everything that it takes to protect Raven and Julian from the harm that has come their way.
The novel allows you to take a look at hearts of passion and love that have been filled with hate but when they thaw out its all about the passion.
Betrayal and Forgiveness.......2003-01-24
Stolen Hearts is a fast paced, emotional read that keeps the reader turning pages. Raven Christopher is distraught, her child has been kidnapped and the only person that can help her, doesn't want anything to do with her; Andre Simon, a gifted artist, whose heart belongs only to Raven. Andre and Raven seem to have a promising future ahead of them. But that future is destroyed when Raven confesses that she was involved in an art heist. Andre feels betrayed and he banishes her from his life.
Now almost two years later Raven shows up on his doorstep begging for help. The reunion is not a happy one, and Andre's immediate reaction is to turn her away because he cannot seem to forget about the past. But Raven's anguish over her missing child touches him. Can Andre put aside his distrust and anger for Raven and help her rescue her child? Will Andre forgive Raven and lose himself to his one true love? In order to find out the answers to these questions you will have to read Stolen Hearts, Jacquelin Thomas's latest literary offering.
This story was so fast paced and exciting that I finished reading it in one sitting. I highly recommend Stolen Hearts and look forward to more of Ms. Thomas's work.

WORTH THE WAIT..........2003-01-03
I really enjoy all of Jacquelin Thomas books... It was kinda of heard to get into this book at first but once I did I loved it. I can't wait to read about the rest of A.C.'s sister and maybe her father too.. It was cool to slip in on the Ramson. Just to know they are fine. The reason I didn't give this book a 5 stars due to the romace sceens was lacking due to the fact the chartars had a past and a new start I thought the sceens could have been a lil' hotter. If you have read about the Ramson's then you will remember A.C from Matt & Katlin's story. If not go get and catch up... Good work mrs Thomas

"
From
Lauren Kelly, ""a writer of formidable talent"" (Scott Turow), comes the page-turning story of Merilee Graf, whose past and present mysteries converge in a revelation too painful, and too shocking, for her to accept.
Sixteen years ago, a vivacious fifth-grade classmate of Merilee Graf was abducted from a park in Mt. Olive, New York. Haunted by the memory of the eleven-year-old ""gypsy-looking"" girl whose disappearance has never been explained, Merilee returns home to keep a vigil at the bedside of her dying father, a prosperous importer of exotic goods and a former, popular mayor of the upstate New York town on the Chautauqua River. After Mr. Graf's death, Merilee finds herself an ""heiress"" in more ways than one as she becomes involved, with both dread and fascination, with two very different men from her Mt. Olive past -- the elusive older brother of her missing classmate and her own seductive ""Uncle Jedah,"" executor of her father's estate. Past and present mysteries converge in a revelation too painful, and too shocking, for Merilee to accept, and in a sudden act of reckless courage she frees herself of the terrifying obsessions of the past.

More Family Psychosis.......2006-09-18
Merilee is a young adult woman, her father is in the hospital so she returns home, to her family mansion, in a quiet town. The reader gets bits and pieces of the family's oddness, and also learns of a child abduction that happened during Merilee's childhood. Strange charcters, and happenings make this a great book, hard to put down.
A character study that examines the darker side of people.......2005-09-02
SEARCH CONTINUES FOR MISSING MT. OLIVE GIRL...FEW LEADS IN SEARCH FOR 11-YEAR-OLD...ABDUCTION CASE IN FOURTH WEEK. NO RANSOM DEMANDS.
Merilee Graf has a lot of baggage left over from childhood, including the nagging mystery of what happened to her fifth-grade classmate. When Lilac Jemson went missing, the adults of Mt. Olive took pains to shield the other children from learning about it --- Merilee's parents among them; in fact, more fervently than most. They avoided talking about it at all costs. To mention it or ask why Lilac wasn't around anymore sent them into a near rage. Why all the secrecy?
Sixteen years passed, and Lilac didn't surface. But Merilee never forgot about her. Now, Merilee returns to her hometown. Her father is gravely ill and she grapples with residual conflicting emotions. Did her father ever really love her? Sometimes he seemed so cold. She believes she was never the daughter he wanted, as her mother was never the wife he wanted. Yet he could --- could --- act warm and caring. Merilee was definitely a daddy's girl, while her mother embarrassed her, sometimes to the point that she wished her mother gone, dead, out of her life. Edith Graf had had some heavy emotional issues to deal with. She was always there for Merilee --- at least until her early demise --- but preoccupied with her own problems for the most part. Was Merilee too harsh in her judgment of her?
While her father lies listless in the local hospital, Merilee brings him personal treasures from the family home, including a heart-shaped magnifying glass that she bought for him one day. It was a special gift, chosen with painstaking care. But he seems less attached to it than she. For her, it is a symbol with a dual meaning, and, when she discovers it's missing after he dies, her mission to find out who took it becomes near obsession. Even the hospital staff starts to grow somewhat hostile toward her endless inquiries about it.
In her search for the missing heart, Merilee reconnects with a brief flame from her past, Roosevelt Jemson --- Lilac's brother. Over a decade and a half later, he still piques her curiosity. What once might have been fizzled before it got started, now they both have some lingering feelings to deal with over it.
Meanwhile, Jedah Graf, Merilee's "uncle," arrives for the funeral services. Never her favorite, Merilee finds herself repulsed and intrigued at the same time. But considering the majority of her relatives, her attraction to Jedah --- a slick, manipulative, but often comforting presence --- might be understandable. Plus, she is weakened by the devastation in the wake of her loss. While Merilee is working through her grief, secrets surface --- secrets no one who has just lost a father should have to face.
Masterfully written, THE STOLEN HEART is not your typical mystery. It's in large part a character study, with a look at the dark side of people. That's no surprise, though, when you discover that "Lauren Kelly" is a pseudonym for Joyce Carol Oates.
