Subject : Question from eBay Member
Dear lionlambboutique,
Yes, I was pretty dissapointed. I think the guy or gal selling on ebay is the author actually and the publisher. The book is also on Amazon and got two really bad reviews. Of course, I didn't read those before I purchased. The book also got two great reviews on Amazon which appear to be from the author or a friend. One reviewer is from the same city as the publisher. I don't think this is a coincidence. Unfortunately the guy probably didn't do anything illegal but it is very misleading and overpriced for what you get. His goal is to deceive people and he does a great job. I actually gave the guy a good review because I didn't research this until you wrote me. I don't really know much about the book topic so I didn't know what to expect from the book. Obviously I expected a "real" book from a "real" publisher. Now I know better.

Good program. Walks you through all the needed steps .......2005-02-02
This is a good program that walks you through all of the information you will need as a basic abstractor. It also teaches you how to implement your new education. Some advanced tactics and practices are covered to allow the professional abstractor to begin planning for future career moves. The material is reasonably applicable regardless of your location, providing ample specifics for the variations that will be encountered. The layout provides a nice, steady flow to build your knowledge base in a cohesive and user friendly manner. I find this flow one of the most important factors in my rating of the material. Some of the other title materials I have read seem to have no build to the information just laying it out there and forcing you to sort for what you need (one even provides everything alphabetically!) The title basics is an excellent one since the book provides the base you will need to obtain in order to begin the process of starting your career. It is not a slam dunk training, meaning you have to take the reference materials to the courthouse and practice but when you go to start your research, what you need to know can be found within the book. This is no fluff training program since each page seems to cover a hundred different points, but it is a great career builder for anyone serious about attaining solid education in the field. Overall a great buy for the money. I'd recommend it to anyone entering abstracting, working in lending or investing in real estate. I do two of the three and have found the information an asset.
Excellent material - bought it for my friends too!.......2004-11-16
I am in mortgage finance and have worked on the edge of abstracting for quite awhile - this book allowed me to see in fine detail all that goes into a proper abstract of title. I used the book to learn to properly locate and research tax sale property and have been very pleased with the results! We bought six different parcels at the last tax sale based on what I learned from this book. The property titles to all are in great shape and the book even taught me how to locate the property! The price of the course certainly beat paying for a full abstract by a title company for each property of interest to me! Overall a great bargain - full of fantastic info that is really useful. I even bought a copy of a couple of friends who do real estate investing and they are pleased as well.
Lacking Information...Save Your Money........2004-11-15
I was looking forward to receiving this "book" by the description and because of the information given concerning the author. However, upon receiving the "book" I was completely in shock. I kept thinking I must be missing something. There has to be an additional copy or second volume. No such luck. This is nothing more than a reference/dictionary of real estate terms that someone has carelessly thrown together to make a few dollars. It in NO WAY gives indepth instruction or guidence in the aspect of title searches. It does however imply how it might be approached. I suggest that if you want professional instruction do not waste your money on this 120 page soft cover desktop published appearing "booklet".
Book Description
Visual Basic 2005 is designed for productivity
and so is this new addition to Murach's bestselling VB series. It moves at a professional pace to teach you how to develop Windows Forms applications using all the time-saving new features in Visual Basic 2005 and Visual Studio 2005.
That means you'll learn how to:
create database applications using the new data sources feature and new data controls that are now layered on top of ADO.NET (database processing is the function that's changed most dramatically in this release of Visual Basic)
use new object-oriented features like generics, My objects, partial classes, and class diagrams that save you time on everyday functions
take advantage of new Visual Studio features like code snippets, Auto Correction, and ClickOnce deployment that simplify the tasks of creating, testing, debugging, and deploying applications
But if you're new to VB.NET, you'll also gain the core skills that haven't changed. So you'll learn how to validate data...handle numeric, date, and string data
do repetitive processing using arrays and collections
handle exceptions in a structured way
work with text, binary, and XML files
access data with ADO.NET
and make practical use of OOP features like inheritance and interfaces. What's more, these classic skills are seamlessly integrated with what's new, just as you'll mix new and unchanged features in your own applications.
But that's not all! Check out the extended table of contents and index in Search Inside the Book to see all that this book covers. By the end, you'll be producing Windows database applications at a professional level. And you'll be ready to master ASP.NET 2.0 web programming (please see Murach's ASP.NET 2.0 Web Programming with VB 2005; it takes up where this book leaves off).
Customer Reviews:
Among the best beginner VB texts, maybe 'the' best ..........2007-08-23
I've been a self-taught developer off and on for ten years and I've relied on books primarily for learning new languages. And the Murach series are consistently the very best texts for self-paced learning. The latest VB offering carries on the tradition with very clear and consise explanations, along with helpful real-world application demonstrations and exercises at the end of the chapter. And none of the pages and pages of errata you must sort thru with many companies (Wrox ... God, don't get me started. :o( ). I'm giving it a FIVE to offset some of the ridiculous assertions made elsewhere about this excellent text.
One of the best VB2005 Texts.......2007-01-18
My perspective on this book is that of a true beginner. I know a lot about programming and languages, but have no experience designing or writing programs/code beyond following the bouncing ball in books such as this.
This book is great...and not so great at the same time...for a true beginner. It is exactly as advertised, "No other book teaches so much, so fast, so thoroughly," but therein lies the problem for we experience-challenged readers. The pace is quick, i.e., topic-to-topic, and many times I had lingering questions about what I'd just read while finding myself halfway into the next topic. The book assumes a certain level of knowledge and/or experience that is somewhere between novice and expert...and I'm still at the 'step-by-step book' stage...so I expect to get a lot more from it in the months ahead than I have thus far. I know enough now to know that what I will need is in there...
That said...whatta book! It will be among the most used of my reference books because it covers such a wide range of topics so well and because it covers those topics comprehensively. As my understanding of the language progresses, I'll have this book to refer to when I need to learn more about specific aspects of the language and its implementation.
I've wasted some money on VB2005 books, but not on this one. Anne Boehm and Mike Murach delivered the goods.
Not useful unless you have never programmed........2006-12-15
I've worked with C and C++ for a while, but never basic until 3 weeks ago when I started the work on this project. I decided to order this book before I began getting my hands dirty with any of the existing VB that I would have to update. While I waited for this book I started working with VB and found that it was much easier than I had expected. By the time the book came in the mail I had practically no use for the "Language Essentials" or "Object Oriented Programming" sections of this book. All that left was a section on databases and XML, which is not really what I bought the book for. I expected this book to cover some of the extensive library that Visual Basic 2005 offers, but there as no coverage outside of a few number and string functions and the afore mentioned database functions. Do NOT by this book if you expect to ever use multiple threads as this book has only a SINGLE sentence on delegates, the means by which Visual Basic calls asynchronous events, and cross threaded function calls. I found this book to be a mediocre reference book for some of most basic library functions, so unless you have never seen a programming language before, or you want it for its database section I would recommend look for a different book.
Murach's Visual Basic 2005.......2006-10-19
I like the layout of this book. Each topic is explained in detail using paired pages with the first page of the pair containing the detail and the second page of the pair containing a summary of key points. There are also a number of benchmark projects that demonstrate the concepts that have been covered. I was particularly impressed with level of detail contained in the chapters on Database Programming and Object-Oriented programming. I would particularly recommend this book for beginning to intermediate level developers. I look forward to reading other books by this publisher.
Excellent Training and Reference Book!.......2006-10-09
This book should be required reading for any application developer using Visual Basic. The layout of syntax, guidelines, and examples on one page with explanations on a matching page provide an easy and quick reference to information. The "paired pages" format: How-to on the left page and examples on the right makes this a great reference book.
It is a straight-forward presentation of Visual Basic 2005 information and a book that will stay on my bookshelf.

Excellent.......2007-10-03
Excellent for beginners - easy to follow step by step format.Macromedia Flash Professional 8 Beyond the Basics Hands-On Training
Good tutorial and well structured.......2007-05-24
I believe this book taught me quite a lot. The tutorial guides you through one project from beginning to end, which also highlights the challenges in the planning phase. It may appear difficult at the beginning (and it is) but Shane explains the contents in an excellent way that makes you want to learn more. The book is definitely for an intermediate to advanced FLASH developer, who have a good grasp of actionscript. If you are new to actionscript this book is definitely NOT for you. Having said that, this book was worth it for me.
Easy to Understand.......2007-05-12
This book does a great job of explaining ActionScript techniques. It seemed like every time a question popped into my head, I found the answer right away in the next paragraph. The author explains things in a way that everyone can understand.
The only problem I had with the book was that the explanations got a little too repetitive sometimes. I think they over-explained things, but I suppose they just wanted to make sure everyone understood it.
Basically Intermediate, Slightly Beyond.......2007-04-19
Add this one to your library, folks!
This book totally lives up to it's title. It is a solid resource for getting things done with Flash. From concept to finshed product, this books walks you through the proper way to accomplish intermediate-level tasks in a straight forward manner. The step-by-step instructions are some of the best I've seen. And I've seen a lot.
It really is best to have some basic knowledge of Flash and to understand the terms and concepts used, but the beginner will also gain a lot from this book. (if they have a glossary nearby and are willing to do some work). The novice, once going through the material, will be a proud intermediate. There also a few advanced techniques touched upon.
For working designers using Flash this is a tremendously useful book. The entire book is a walk-through of building a website that has many features that will come up in design and development: The design process, fonts, integrating your tools, organization and architecture of your project, loading data from text files with LoadVars, formatting text with textFormat class, building slideshows, preloaders, forms, video and audio players, and navigation menus.
And the CD of files and videos are very well-done and extremely helpful.
HOT Books are Hot.......2007-01-04
The Flash 8 Hands-On-Training book is written in a way anyone should be able to comprehend, retain and use the lessons learned to do what they wish with Flash. I have purchased several of the HOT books, and have not been disappointed with any. A must buy!

Not So Basic New Hire Orientatin.......2000-11-02
Having been a Human Resource Director for many years, I feel qualified to review Ms. Gust's book. It is very thorough, and covers everything you need to have a successful orientation. In a very organized and concise way Ms. Gust has arranged this book to be a tool for the employer to create a top notch orientation process. It puts together everything you need during an orientation process- all in one place. It is a "must have" reference for every Human Resource Department. In this day and age of continued recruitment and retention efforts for the best and the brightest the first impression (for a new employee) is critical. I applaud Ms. Gust for her stellar effort!!
Very useful.......2000-10-25
Found the book to be a great help in starting a new hire orientation program.
It saved me a ton of time, and had all the areas covered.
I recommend it.

Great introduction to Applied Kinesiology.......2003-04-12
Robert Frost's AK manual is lean and to the point. It gives the history of AK, how AK is used in Europe and the USA, theory into the mechanisms of the reflexes used in AK, basic therapeutic procedures with explainations, and clear diagrams of the basic muscle tests and the appropriate reflexes. A perfect complement to the 100 hour course. I recommend this book to any student or practioner in health care who is looking to expand their skill set.

Programming with Visual C.......2007-09-06
I have no experience with Visual Basic but I have taken a few classes in C. Overall the book is a good read, finished it in a week and the exercises are very productive. I would have like for there to be a 2nd part just on labs alone.
Very satisfied.......2006-03-03
I bought this new book which I got it for $4 less than any other place including internet and book stores. I received the book on time and as I expected. Started reading and enjoying it...
Use this book along with additional resources.......2005-11-26
The book is well structured to cover the exam topics. It does, however, omit certain details in some topics which would be unclear from just the book alone if I didn't already know them or didn't find some better explanations elsewhere online. You'll need some additional resource, including .NET class library online reference and online tutorials to fully understand certain topics.
Pretty decent.......2005-10-17
I've not finished reading this book yet, nor have I completed all exercises. Already having a fair bit of experience with .NET and ASP.NET I can see that this book covers only the basics, though it seems to cover them quite well. I have, however, found a few code errors in the examples, which I feel detracts a fair bit from the overall quality of the book.
A decent book if you FULLY utilize and understand it.......2005-07-26
I just passed the exam with a pretty nice score 1.5 hours ago, and relied solely on this book for preparing for the exam for 10 days. I have solid background in Web development and use of C#. That said, here is my very personal comment:
- The quality of this book is beyond my doubt. The book might have two errors that I think I saw when I read it the 2nd time, though I wasn't 100% sure. Other than that, I didn't find any errors/typos/mistakes in it. Many subtle issues are explained in the book in a way very easy to understand.
- looking back, I believe that if one wants to pass the exam with ease by using this book, one'd be much better off by doing and studying all the questions that come with the CD. I'm a bit regretful that I didn't finish up most of the electronic practice questions.
- I don't know any other book on the same subject. But looking back, I feel the book (including all the materials included with it) was perfect to help me pass the exam. I have no doubt that without the help of this book (or similar), I wouldn't have been able to pass the exam.
Overall: the paper book alone may or may not be enough for anyone to rely on for passing the cert exam, but if you have taken advantage of all the materials that come with the book and if you have *FULLY* understood what is covered in the book, you'll be almost quaranteed to pass the exam on your very first try. I may be wrong on this because different people have different backgrounds, but that's what I believe while looking back.

This Book Is "H.O.T.".......2007-05-06
Shane Rebenschied's Macromedia Flash MX 2004: Beyond the Basics Hands-On-Training (BTB:HOT) is the second book in a small series on teaching would-be developers how to effectively use Macromedia Flash in their web projects.
BTB:HOT is very well written. The author uses very clear instructions and appropriate graphics(screenshots) to illustrate the points being made. It is a very easy read, especially if you are weary of computer programming style books. The HOT series is written as if the instructor is standing beside you and telling you what you need to do.
This books was definitely written for the layman. This book was not written for someone who is looking to take Flash to the next level of professionalism. The book is very short (almost too short), and really doesn't include very much discussion about the possibilities that can happen with a particular project.
After reading this book and working through the examples, I determined that there really isn't anything new in this book that a seasoned web developer couldn't figure out after reading the first book in the series.
To finish, very good book, but just for novices.
Great!.......2006-07-22
This book is perfect for the transformation from beginning to intermediate. The tutorials are incredibly thorough plus it guides you through making a whole web site with the most practical functions. I highly recommend this book. I wish they would make more!
Good tutorial book on Flash.......2006-05-17
This is the first book on Flash and this is the first time I am learning Flash MX2004 Pro. So far I have gone through almost a half of the book and I am very pleased with how this book is structured and its CD which contains the project files as I am learning this program with this book. For any beginner, I feel this book will help get you started on learning and using Flash MX2004. I purchased this book's sister edition "Beyound the Basics" so that I can go one step further after I complete this book.
Good Intermediate Book, But Only Worth 3 Stars if You Can Program.......2006-03-02
Basically, this is a good book to get you from the initial HOT book on Flash to the more advanced tutorials found on the Macromedia Exchange site. The introduction to LoadVars and LoadMovieClip alone are worth the price of the book.
My only complaint, if you can call it that, would be that if you are coming from a programmer's background, you will skim A LOT of pages. You've got to hand it to the author in how he really takes his time introducing programming to the neophytes, but I found myself actually reading only 1 page out of every 3-6.
If you already know how to program in any language, you could probably find the tutorials online to get by without this book, but the expenditure in time probably wouldn't be worth the price of the book.
Written by a good teacher.......2006-01-06
Excellent book. The author has obviously taught classes and adopted a style that can be followed by any type of reader/student. If you are a novice you will have no trouble following each step-by-step lesson and learn the topics covered. When you are finished with the book your skill level will have improved.
If your skills are advanced or intermediate you will be able to get through each lesson quickly and learn another way of accomplishing something. The videos on the CD are good and delve deeper into the topics covered in the book.
One of the main goals of the book is to teach the concept of object oriented programming. As you go through the book you build a web site, or, better, an application that loads the different applications you learn about in the book, all tied together by a navigation section.
The use of winks and jokes may seem inappropriate to some, but it kept things light for me and I even laughed a couple of times.
I would recommend this book to anyone who needs to learn how to produce Flash applications. You must know the basics of Flash, and you will not learn about tying to databases or using XML or web services. This is why this is the perfect INTERMEDIATE Flash book.

Wonderful Answer Book.......2007-08-12
We have used this book over and over to fix behavioral problems that have cropped up over the years. From jumping on visitor, to digging up the sprinklers, to jealousy over a new dog or cat. The solutions offered are simple, effective, and easily integrated into our lives.
Just okay.......2007-07-05
I bought this book to teach our newly-adopted adult dog, Toby, how to behave. I was disappointed as it seems that this book (along with the majority of others) focuses mostly on how to teach puppies, not adult dogs.
I think it would have been very effective had I been the intended reader.
Good Introductory Dog Training Book.......2007-06-10
If you are mainly interested in teaching you dog basic commands (sit, come, stay, etc.), or in correcting moderate behavioral problems, all in a humane, non-violent way, then this book will live up to its title.
The first third of the book mainly deals with theory, such as the benefits of positive reinforcement and canine motivation. It also introduces the clicker, which is a small plastic box with folded metal inside that makes a clicking sound when depressed.
The clicker is used to mark the desirable behavior of the animal and is followed by a reward. Purchasing a clicker will be a necessity if you plan to use this book. They can be bought for less than five dollars at most larger pet stores, such as PetCo or Petsmart, and can be bought on amazon for cheaper.
The book then covers housebreaking and how to train your dog to follow basic commands.
Finally, almost the last half of the book deals with behavioral problems, from excessive barking and leash pulling, to mouthing and nipping.
Overall, this is a very good introductory book and will probably suffice for anyone simply looking to train a more companionable family pet, and it does so with the scientifically proven, humane method of positive reinforcement.
The Only Dog Training Book you will ever need.......2007-05-30
The book is very well written and easy to read and comprehend. The dog, however, has a bit more to learn, and I, as his trainer, have my work cut out for me! Thank you for a great book!
Excellent easy-access reference book.......2007-05-15
I bought this for 2 young friends who have a new dog. It is very helpful and accessible even for younger readers. (The girls are 11 and 9).
