A Lady's Scorn
Wrongly branded a spy, the dark and handsome Viking lord Selig Haardrad suffered greatly in the dungeons of Lady Erika of Gronwood. And as he hung in chains, his magnificent body wracked with pain and fever, one thought sustained him: revenge!
A Viking's Vengence
Now Destiny's great wheel has turned--and Selig's exquisite, hone-haired tormentor has been delivered into the Norseman's hands. Now it is Selig who is the master, bound and determined to break the proud spirit of his captive "ice queen" and to conquer her with passion's sword -- never dreaming that his own heart will be vanquished by sensuous desire. . .and victorious love.

Slow and Plodding.......2006-08-15
I was given this book at the beach by my friend and had not read the previous two. In fact didn't know there even were other stories until a few chapters into this one. Maybe if I'd read the previous two I would've cared more about Selig and Erika.
However, if you are a big J.L. fan make sure you read the previous two before this one. If you don't you may find it as I did. Sloooooooowwwww and a bit dull. I didn't care for either of the characters and although all romance fans are guarunteed a happy ending Selig and Erika's personalities made their actions and motivations in the book so foregone that it was a trial to finish it out.
Seems like Selig was a bit of a fan fav. for this trilogy and it's a shame that more wasn't made of his story.
Loved it..........2006-07-22
Well, if you read my other reviews, they're short and to the point. I love all of J.L.'s works so far, and this doesn't fail me. An excellent read.
GREAT!!!!!!!!!.......2005-08-21
I love this one! I've read the others and i think this one is my favorite. It started a little slow but other than that it was so fantastic. I stayed up until 1:30 this morning to read it! I think the other reviewers pretty much summed up the whole story, but i just wanted to say if you liked the others in the Viking triology you won't be disappointed. Great job Johanna!!!
Not What I Expected.......2005-02-16
I could not wait to read Selig's story but what a disappointment it was. The book was more of a family reunion than a story about Selig and Erika. Although I enjoyed hearing about the rest of the family his story did not stand alone. I thought a couple of chapters could have been eliminated. The first two books in the Viking series I highly recommend they are excellent reads. Find this one at your local library.
Not as good as the first two, but still entertaining.......2004-12-21
This is the story of Garrick and Brenna's first child, Selig the Blessed, who we remember as the stillborn child who was "raised" from the dead in Fires of Winter and as the brother who also came back from the dead in Hearts Aflame. Now in this book, Johanna Lindsey has decided to put his life in danger once more, when he was ambushed on the way to East Anglia on a mission for King Alfred. Although he survives this, he ends up being mistaken for a spy and taken as a prisoner by Lady Erika of Gronwood, where he was nearly lashed to death. When his sister Kristen comes to his rescue, he asks her to take Erika as a hostage in order to exact his revenge.
Once again, we see the closeness of the family. We are also reminded of how dangerous Kristen could be when Erika incurs the wrath of her anger. If there is one family you wouldn't want to mess with, they're one of them - if you mess with one of them, you have to face the rest of the family.
Now unlike the heroines of the first two books, Erika came across as too timid. Although I didn't expect her to be as spirited as Brenna and Kristen, I wish that she had a bit more fire in her. Sure she felt guilty, but she didn't even try her hardest to defend herself when she was chained. As for Selig, too much emphasis was given on his unbelievably good looks, his pain and recovery, yet not much depth was given to his character. And in comparison with the first two books, the romance between Erika and Selig isn't as well developed. I didn't find the interaction as exciting. The author could have fleshed out the romance part a bit more in my opinion.
But if you have read the first two books, this would still be an entertaining read. For me, the highlight of the book is not so much the romance, but the involvement of Garrick and Brenna, Royce and Kristen and their friends and family.
Book Description
A Personal Growth Finalist in the 2004 Word Guild Canadian Writing Awards!
A Formatio book. "Only God deserves absolute surrender because only God can offer absolutely dependable love."In our self-reliant era, most of us recoil from the concept of surrendering to a power or authority outside ourselves. But surrender need not be seen as threatening, especially when the One to whom we surrender is the epitome of goodness and love. God doesn't want his people to respond to him out of fear or obligation. Rather, he invites us to enter into an authentic relationship of intimacy and devotion. And so God calls us to move beyond mere obedience--by surrendering to love.In this profound book, David Benner explores the twin themes of love and surrender as the heart of Christian spirituality. Through careful examination of Scripture and reflection on the Christian tradition, Benner shows how God bids us to trust fully in his perfect love.Writing with mature wisdom gleaned from many years of integrating psychological and spiritual insight, Benner demonstrates keen perception and sensitivity to the realities of spirtitual formation. In each chapter he includes meditative exercises to guide you into a greater experience of trust and spiritual transformation. God is love, and he intends for you to live in his love. Surrender to Love will lead you to an unexpected place, where yieldedness to God frees you to become who he created you to be.

Surrender To Love: Discovering the Heart of Christian Spirituality.......2007-10-02
This book gave me a greater understanding of a real relationship with the Lord. It is especially good for those who feel they must have control over their lives, and who have a hard time emotionally if things seem out of control. It reinforces the love God has for us, and how to love him back.
Surrender to ambiguity.......2005-10-01
Dr. Benner is obviously a gifted writer with a heart for the loving transformation of his readers. My essential difficulty with this book is in its methodology, which like other works steeped in mystical spirituality, seems to emphasize the subjective nature of surrender at the expense of the objective elements of the Christian faith and our humanity.
While there is a subjective element to spirituality, that is, to the love and life found in God, Christ and the apostles always stressed that faith is to be expressed through concrete, practical love for our neighbor.
It is worth noting that Dr. Benner works closely, and I believe, approvingly of those who have strong ties to non-Christian spirituality. It is no surprise that he sings high the praises of A.W. Tozer, a Protestant, evangelical mystic to be sure, but also a student of spirituality that is steeped in extreme ecumenicism. He fails to mention that Tozer was also a neglectful father and an unloving husband, who's "pursuit of God" came at the expense of those closer to him rather than through them.
Overall, the intent and heart of the book is good, but it lacks the objectivity that is foundational to any intelligible faith, and a reader could easily find themselves saturated with a subjective mysticism that is more akin to Eastern spirituality than the Christ-following that typified the apostles.
Biblically and Historically on Target.......2005-09-19
Benner is fast becoming known as a Christian psychologist with expertise in historical Christian spirituality. His is a rare and valuable combination.
His subtitle ("Discovering the Heart of Christian Spirituality") rightly summarizes the essence of the spiritual quest throughout church history--surrender to God's love. Others today are writing about our loving encounter with God. However, they often seem unaware of the grand history which precedes them. Benner, on the other hand, adds weight and substance to his development of our love relationship with God through his biblical, historical and psychological (biblical psychology) insights.
Reviewer: Bob Kellemen, Ph.D., is the author of "Beyond the Suffering: Embracing the Legacy of African American Soul Care and Spiritual Direction", "Soul Physicians," and "Spiritual Friends."
A Must Read.......2004-06-29
Benner does it again. This book, along with "The Gift of Being Yourself," highlights what we most need to learn. Benner illustrates the Need to surrender and explains the connection between surrendering to love and the experience of genuine intimacy. Benner most aptly stated "There is nothing more important that learning love, because this is learning that counts for eternity.... Learning to love is therefore the core task of the human psychospiritual journey." This book facilitates such learning!
Please, Please, Please Read This Book.......2004-06-19
For anyone who desires to learn more about the unconditional love of God and how that love can be experienced daily: Please, Please, Please read this book. Dr. Benner has presented the love of God in such a straight forward way. God's love for us is what truly makes transformation possible. Apart from Christ we can do nothing. His love opens various possibilities. I will say that anyone who truly wants to mine the treasures within this work must read it more than one time. I want to thank Dr. Benner for presenting such a wonderful book on God and His love for us.

Way too flowery..........2007-09-19
I've read quite a few books within this genre and found this to be the weakest. Try SM101 or Screw the Roses...
Very enlightening.......2007-08-14
This book was very informative and enlightening. Enter the world of female submission with more than your initial questions answered.
Too Limited...Not Recommended.......2007-08-07
I read this book, hoping it would be a good and indepth look at female submission within the sexual D/s context in general. What I got was what the author personally thought was arousing instead. Most of what she mentions in this book (ie. tips on what to do, wear, how to behave) isn't helpful and it must be realized that such things are highly individualistic. What works for one won't work for all.
I also found the fantasies she mentions in this book of poor taste. I'm not one for racially "Othering" and "exoticizing" people and I resent that she does this in the book (I'm thinking of the Middle Eastern Man against "milky white skin" fantasies). This was written very much from the perspective of a particular white female submissive, and that's what you get, her limited (and unenlightened) perspective. Not helpful.
Take a Step Into Your Secret Garden..........2006-08-09
Have you had a conventional, ordinary, "vanilla" sex life, but feel somewhat unfilled? Have you had thoughts, fantasies, or desires to be tied up, or otherwise dominated? Do you find these thoughts exciting on one hand, but feel guilty, perverted, or ashamed on the other? Erotic Surrender: The Sensual Joys of Female Submission is the assurance and answers to all those secret questions and desires you've kept tucked and hidden away in your mind and heart.
In the first chapters, Claudia Varrin gently helps you identify if you have a submissive side to your sexuality. This is an excellent help to know if SM is something that truly interests you, before going any further in your reading or discovery. This also helps you to gain a sense of assurance and even excitement about feelings that may have left you feeling shameful in the past. She gives refreshing assurance that your hidden thoughts and desires of submissive intimacy are not perverted, or something to hide and be ashamed of.
She then guides in discovering your submissive "Secret Garden" with healthy understanding and self-confidence, sharing openly her own early feelings and discoveries. This section of the book is truly an opportunity see yourself with an honest, refreshing, new perspective. Varrin then covers a wealth of helpful advice and information on how to talk to your partner, if you desire, with open and productive communication. If your husband is unaware of your interest in SM, this book gives excellent advice for your situation. She addresses ways to comfortably first initiate conversation to a partner that may be unexpecting and unaware of your interest in SM, going over what to expect, different reactions, how to respond, and how to really open up about your sexual interests and explore them together. What fun!
Once you've established and admitted your submissiveness to yourself (and if applicable, your partner) Varrin then covers safe, sane, and consensual play. She covers public and private BDSM etiquette and helpful advice whether you want to keep your play to the bedroom, or in meeting in the public SM scene. A resource list of groups, organizations, books, publications, shops, and magazines is included. Her writing style is open, non-threatening, and personable, allowing you as the reader to explore and discover all at your own pace and desire. Aside from all the informative and useful information, she also includes a nice splattering of her own experiences and her fictional short stories just to spark your interest, or help in bringing your fantasies to life...incase you don't have enough ideas of your own! ;) The book is well-written, hardcover with a glossy dust jacket, quality binding and paper.
Experienced submissives will likely not discover new material in this book, although it could still be an enjoyable read for you. A few have written reviews for this book and rated it as disappointing. It is important to keep in mind that this book is written for women who are just starting to identify and explore a submissive side of their sexuality. It is intended to provide them with clear, helpful, assuring reading and resource lists. It really isn't written to experienced players and Doms, unless perhaps to give a look into the feelings and experiences of women new to realizing their submissive self. If you're an experienced Dom and in love with a sweet vanilla lady, than this could be a good book to read together!
If you are a woman who has been living a vanilla sexuality, but longing for further intimacy, zest, and fun, you will be refreshed, liberated, and inspired by Claudia Varrin's book. It is truly an honest, reassuring, and fun read, especially written for someone who wants a safe and fulfilling look into the amazing world of SM.
boring.......2006-03-23
Made it thru the first few chapters then threw it away. I guess it might be interesting to people who know absolutely nothing. I don't want to put the author down. She is putting out good info. Just not interested enough to finish.
I am a Daka (A Tantricka) and more into the spiritual side of sex. The movement of energy up and own the spine with the breath. Orgasms that last for hours and hours (my personal record is 4 and a half hours) with ever more intense waves of pleasure, building upon themselves wave after wave of vaginal and clitoral orgasms, a symphony of pleasure.
This book goes for using pain, to keep spiritually numb, ethically numb, morally numb and physically numb people interested long enough to achieve short duration, low intensity orgasms. Which is all right if that is all you are capable of. Just wrote this review because it was solicited of me. Again don't mean to put the author down. It just wasn't for me.
Her scenarios were interesting but I have found scenarios to be affective when they are a recreation, or reenactment, of a past life. In other words an experience which, I and the woman I am with, had in a past life. These come naturally, for me, and don't require a script. And would be totally ineffective with someone else's script.
For example I had many woman slaves in a past life. I trained them as pleasure slaves and gave them great power to select when, where and with whom they wished to practice the skills I taught them. I married them off rather then selling them into situations they did not seek. My women where the best educated, most skilled, most self confident, powerful women on the planet at the time. When they find me in this life I tie a silk scarf around their left ankle. It reminds them of all the gifts I gave them then. It reminds them of the surrender they want to make to me. It excels them into performing act of kindness on me.
My point is I don't see how vanilla routines or scenarios can have an audience. But perhaps I just lack imagination. Perhaps I am too old to learn new tricks.

A good read.......2007-09-01
This is an eye-opening book for anyone to read. It's a very descriptive walk through a lovers life torn by a sexual addiction (which is much more prevelant than it is thought of).
Buy it for your husband.......2007-07-20
This is a really good book for those husbands who struggle with Pornography, and also for the wives to read...it gives you a Godly perspective of the realities and consequences of the destructive nature of pornography. There are too many cases where marriages are destroyed because of the evil nature of pornography, and the fact that it is so accessible on the internet...this is one of those books that gives a true account of their lives from both the perspective of the husband and the wife. Buy it, you will find it is a very good jumpstart to accountability for your husbands struggle. This is a good companion to use but please be aware that counseling is most important in helping your husband "beat the porn" rap....
A great book for spouses to read together.......2007-05-07
Unfortunately the use of pronography by both men and women is exploding and draining marriages of the emotional and psychological energy needed for marital bonding. In this book, I Surrender All, both Clay Crosse and his wife describe the devestating effects internet pornography had on their marriage and their slow and painful journey to marital wholeness. A great book for couples to read together. It allows husbands and wives to sometimes reveal their own feelings, through reading Clay and Renee's accounts, that they might never have the courage to say to one another otherwise. This is a wonderful book for all couples, and especially for Christian couples, to use in working this this growing problem.
A Challenge to a Life of Purity .......2006-02-17
Singer Clay Crosse first saw pornography in the fourth grade. He was at a friend's house when they found a collection of magazines. A few years later, another friend showed him a movie. By the time he was in high school, he had a small stash of magazines hidden in his room. Clay knew that looking at this material was wrong, but he never thought about how dangerous it might be.
Even after he and his future wife made a commitment to purity, he was able to rationalize his involvement with pornography. As long as he and Renee were not having sex, he thought he was okay.
Once he married, he assumed that his battle was over. Being a fan of movies, Clay though little about the content of the films that he watched. It made it easier to once again watch pornographic videos at the height of his music success in 1996. This began a two-year descent that would affect him physically, jeopardizing his marriage and career.
This couple's journey to restoration is told clearly and concisely in their own words. It's honest without any lurid details. Through Renee's account we see the heartbreak and turmoil that family members can experience.
This story serves as a warning to all that will take it to heart. There is a common progression with predictable and devastating results. This book could help others turn their lives around.
How could someone so popular in Christian music justify this kind of behavior? Clay and Renee admit that their relationship with God was shallow. Once Clay made it big, they became enamored with all of the pleasures that they could enjoy. Looking back they realize that they were living for themselves.
The foundation for the rebuilding that took place in their marriage was a new commitment to serve the Lord. Their path to wholeness is practical without being legalistic, providing hope for those who struggle with this in their own lives.
Life is better for them now. Clay continues to perform concerts nationwide, and he and Renee speak at various marriage enrichment conferences. Clay serves as worship pastor and Renee is involved in the leadership of women's ministries at The Love of Christ Church in Memphis, pastored by Dana Key of Degarmo & Key fame.
It's hard not to be challenged about purity when you read this book. It's a reminder that we must continually "Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desire" (Romans 13:14 ESV).
Clay and Renee have established HolyHomes Ministries to challenge Christian families to live godly lives. Their thought is that Christian homes should function in a different way than non-Christian homes. They should function in a better way, with more love and caring, and be less destructive and hurtful.
very encouraging.......2005-10-24
i appreciated this book so much for being so humble, open and honest and i'm grateful for the fact that a christian recording artist and his wife would open up about this topic which has shamed so many into silence. the enemy has run rampant in this area and men and women need to see examples of how the Lord is able to work and redeem someone out of the bondage of sexual sin, that He is so willing and able to restore all that has been stolen from a christian marriage that's been torn apart...it reinforces the hope i have in the Lord for my marriage and was very encouraging...
Book Description
We all want to improve our spiritual lives, but the task often can seem overwhelming. And while there is no shortage of self-help gurus hawking their wares, not enough Christians are making meaningful progress toward a deeper relationship with God. Now best-selling author David Augsburger reveals the life-giving nature of surrender and service in Dissident Discipleship. Moving beyond self-centered therapies and ''Lone Ranger'' spirituality, Augsburger reveals that our spiritual lives will grow when we look outside of ourselves and lay down our lives in service to God and neighbor. Anyone interested in the topic of spiritual growth, from pastors to counselors, will be sure to welcome Augsburger's balanced approach.

The Strengths Of This Book Deserve 5 Stars, The Weaknesses Deserve 1........2007-05-18
I saw this book as I was preparing a sermon on serving others. I read one chapter for research, and read the rest of it because it seemed interesting. This book was not as good as I hoped.
The book does good at introducing the topic of tripolar spirituality, which is contained in the subtitle: Self-surrender, Love Of God, and Love of Neighbor. He divides his book into eight chapters, on the practices of radical attachment, stubborn loyalty, tenacious serenity, habitual humility, resolute non-violence, concrete service, authentic witness, and subversive spirituality. Each chapter starts with a definition for the subject and includes two or more stories for that point. At the end of each chapter is a segment that answers objections, and closes with a thought to meditation.
One drawback -- the focus of this book is anthrocentric -- what part does man play in the discipleship process -- rather than theocentric, or what God does in our heart. It definitely is not strong on doctrine or an the inner working of the Spirit to conform us to Christ's image. A non-believer can adapt these teachings in their life. Ghandi, a Hindu, was treated as a hero while Billy Graham in one part was treated as not having as lasting a ministry as the unknown-to-me Dorothy Day.
Another drawback -- it defines Anabaptist in a more narrow way than I would. I consider myself anabaptist, but the anabaptist distinctives I am familiar with (e.g. the Bible being the only authority, the autonomy of the local church, the priesthood of all believers) are not touched on, while pacificism and simplicity of lifestyle are more emphasized. I know a Mennonite who does not believe a true Christian can support the just war theory; Augsburger at least recognizes this is not true. But he equates a Christian in the military putting Ceasar above Christ, even though the New Testament frequently uses a soldier as an example of the Christian life, which Augsburger ignores.
One other thing is that Augsburger seems to indicate that a true Christian who is showing tripolar spirituality would probably be liberal politically. Never mind that abortion, which he doesn't mention, is not loving the unborn neighbor.
These weaknesses were enough to drop this book down to three stars. But it doesn't change the fact that Christians should be focused on loving and serving others. Christians should be more of a community. Christians should stand for truth even when persecution is imminent.
anabaptist discipleship.......2007-01-17
A friend once observed that our church teaching and preaching ought to "put the cookies on a higher shelf." Setting the bar higher is exactly what David Augsburger tries to do in his new book Dissident Discipleship. In contrast to what he calls "standard Christian spirituality," authentic or genuine discipleship is necessarily "dissident" because it radically subverts conventional wisdom and values. In the words of Jim Wallis, "What matters most today is whether one is a supporter of establishment Christianity or a practitioner of biblical faith. Establishment Christianity has made its peace with the established order. It no longer feels itself to be in conflict with the pretensions of the state, with the designs of economic and political power, or with the values and style of life enshrined in the national culture. Establishment Christianity is a religion of accommodation and conformity, which values realism and success more than faithfulness and obedience" (p. 204).
Drawing upon his deep roots in the Anabaptist tradition, Augsburger proposes a "tripolar" spirituality with three interdependent movements--upward towards God, inward towards self, and outward towards neighbor, in contrast to "monopolar" and "bipolar" spiritualities. In successive chapters he describes the seven traits or practices of this subversive spirituality: radical attachment, stubborn loyalty, tenacious serenity, habitual humility, resolute nonviolence, concrete service, and authentic witness. After a concluding chapter he includes six appendices. Given his Anabaptist heritage, Augsburger interacts with the sorts of scholarly sources that you would expect (Kraybill, Wallis, Stringfellow, Yoder, Will Campbell, Tolstoy, etc).
Theologically, the Anabaptist tradition epitomizes Niebuhr's "Christ against culture" paradigm, so believers who are inclined, say, to the paradigms of "Christ of culture" or "Christ above culture" will take exception to its underlying assumptions. Practically, in claiming that his is "not your ordinary garden variety, but the stubborn, persistent, radical spirituality appearing in unusual people across the last two thousand years," Augsburger inadvertently, and I am sure unintentionally, claims the high ground for an elite marine corp of spirituality. The majority of "usual" and "ordinary" believers who are enmeshed in the compromises and contradictions of every day lives, jobs, families, finances, etc. are consigned to the status of pikers and posers. Finally, I found Augsburger's book overwritten and awkward in style (eg, "I suspected that he knew I knew that he knew I knew." p. 100). In the end, though, he does a fine job of pointing us toward Truth North. Reading the Sermon of the Mount convinces me of that.
Superb!.......2006-12-27
A thoroughly superb and radical look at the way of Jesus. An application of Anabaptist tradition to contemporary life. In many ways, it follows up on the themes of "Mere Discipleship", but is much better written and organized, and is therefore also more accessible. I cannot recommend this highly enough for those who want to abandon religion for the revolutionary way of Jesus.
Discipleship- The True Calling of the Church.......2006-10-06
I bought "Dissident Discipleship" during my lunch hour today I have already managed to read about 5 chapters. I find this book to support and re-inforce the theme and thesis of another book I just read, "Mere Discipleship: Radical Christianity in a Rebellious World," by Lee C. Camp.
"Mere Discipleship," blew my socks off and has completely shifted my paradigms as well as those whom I have persuaded to also read it. After reading "Mere Discipleship" I felt so empowered and so close to the truth that I had to talk about it and had to seek similar material. "Dissident Discipleship" is very much on the same track as "Mere Discipleship"- they are both published by Brazos Press.
I am looking foreward to further devouring Augsburger's offering..I like what I have seen so far and have much affinity for what he says in the 5th chapter entitled "The Practice of Resolute Non-Violence" and under the sub heading of "Love Not The Domination System". Based on what I have read there alone I can already reccomend this book and offer my opinion that every Christian should read it as well as the other book I have mentioned. I believe that the Church in general is bound for a cultural shift on par with the reformation...these books are part of the vanguard of that revolution.

Book Description
Here for the first time in hardcover are New York Times bestselling author Amanda Quick's first two romance novels, Seduction and Surrender.
Seduction
Townsfolk called him devil. For dark and enigmatic Julian, Earl of Ravenwood, was a man with a legendary temper and a first wife whose mysterious death would not be forgotten. Some said the beautiful Lady Ravenwood had drowned herself in the black, murky waters of Ravenwood Pond. Others whispered of foul play and the devil's wrath.
Now country-bred Sophy Dorring is about to become Ravenwood's new bride. Drawn to his masculine strength and the glitter of desire that burned in his emerald eyes, the tawny-haired lass had her own reasons for agreeing to a marriage of convenience. One was vengeance, and in its pursuit she would entangle Julian in a blackmail plot, a duel at dawn, and a dangerous masquerade. The other reason was dearer to her heart, but just as wild a quest: Sophy Dorring intended to teach the devil to love again.
Surrender
From the dazzling ballrooms of glittering London society to magnificent, cursed estate in the distant wilds of Yorkshire, comes the deliciously wicked story of a thoroughly unconventional courtship -- and a thrilling midnight rendezvous that could only lead to love... At four and twenty Victoria Huntington thought herself quite adept at fending off fortune hunters... until she came under siege from Lucas Colebrook, the darkly disturbing new Earl of Stonevale. Amidst the brightly plumed birds of the town, Lucas was a hawk. And when he held out the lure of moonlit rides and wild, reckless midnight escapades, Victoria found herself powerless to resist. But becoming Stonevale's companion in adventure was far more dangerous undertaking than Victoria could ever imagine. For the attractive Earl would use her every weakness to woo her, to win her, and ultimately to wed her. And soon the amber-eyed lady would find herself ensconced in a crumbling mansion deep in the English countryside... where the real reason for her hasty marriage becomes all too apparent...and where the ghosts of her dark-stained past are waiting to rise up in a terrifying plot that will threaten her life, her honor, and the only man she could ever love.

Customer Reviews:
A Lasting Love!!.......2001-10-31
This book is the best! I love the way Rina and Cleveland finally get together. You have to get this book.
Reckless for Love.......2001-09-27
Rina Matthews is a CPA with not only brains but beauty, she along with partner Jason Harper are trying to make their accounting firm a success. With Jason's charm and Rina's skill they seem to be on their way in their business as well as personal lives, since a trip to the altar for them seems inevitable. Enter handsome, charming, wellbred, well connected district attorney Cleveland Whitney whose political aspirations will probably make the mayors office his first stop on the political trail. Cleveland is capitvated and impressed with Rina's beauty and candor.
Rina has harbored unsettling emotions concerning her relationship with Jason, and the assignment in Savannah as the new accountant for Abigal Whitney seems the perfect time and place to evalute her feelings, at least that was the idea until Cleve. Rina could not dismiss her obvious attraction to the smoothly confident Cleve, neither could she overlook his blantant attaction for her. "What is a girl to do"?
This must be Rochelle's early work, the story though with great potential is not as developed as her Hideaway series or other works. I was surprised that Matthew Sterling's character was one of Cleve's friends, that would truly make and interesting connection if Rochelle choses to merge the families as her Hideaway saga continues. All in all any Alers romance story is definitely worth the read.
Cleveland Whitney!.......2000-12-06
Rina Matthews was an accountant. She was contracted by Abagail Whitney to go over her finances. She would have to stay at the promonient older woman's mansion. This is were she met the handsome Cleveland Whitney.
Rina was asked by Cleveland to handle his finances for his upcoming campaign. At first Rina was shocked, but agreed. Cleveland Whitney and Rina Matthews were meant to be together. I loved the way he treated her. He even told her that he wanted her and would wait until she saw the truth about her boyfriend/partner. Slowly, Rina started to fall in love with Cleveland and he with her. She would spend as much time as she could with him.
I have read this book 4 times. Each time I read this book it is just as enjoyable as the first. You know it has to be good, it was written by Rochelle Alers.
Terrific any time reading . ........2000-07-07
There have been Whitneys--black and white--on the oceanfront near Savannah, Georgia, for centuries. Until the Civil War, ownership was white, then Noah Whitney, a freeman, bought the plantation for back taxes. Since then, Whitneys have climbed the ladder of success while building a new level of black society. The highlight of the season is their famed Black-and-White Ball, held every late summer in the gloriously restored Whitney Hall.
Adelaide Whitney, matriarch of the current family, hires Rina Matthews of Atlanta, to audit her financial affairs, comprising both her shares in the family's far-flung business empire and her own private philanthropic ventures. Sure of her own business sense, Rina has nagging concerns about her partner in the accounting firm, Jason Harper, to whom she is unofficially engaged.
These concerns are both multiplied and ignored when Rina runs full-tilt into Cleveland, Adelaide's oldest son, who is not only heir to the family business enterprises, but as a successful district attorney, about to relinquish that post to run for mayor. The collision throws up sparks that illuminate all 200 acres of the Whitney estate.
When Cleve suddenly needs an accountant for his campaign, Rina steps into the breach, and then discovers that her world has skewed because of the men she thought she could trust.
Get your copy of RECKLESS SURRENDER and your iced tea, of course, kick back, and enjoy Rochelle Alers' look at a side of life and society not often exposed to the rest of the world.
PURE ROMANCE.......2000-05-07
Rina Mathews, CPA, partner in an Atlanta based accounting firm, contracted to audit Abigail Whitney's financial holdings, which would require two months of living on the Whitney's estate.
Arriving, Rina meets Cleveland Whitney, who opposed his mother's decision of hiring Rina's firm. Immediately, Cleveland let Rina know that he didn't trust her, nor her partner, Jason Harper, who he knew from years ago.
Rina has a talk with Jason about the hostility Cleveland has toward him, Jason admit that he warned Cleveland, to stay away from Rina. Rina decides to apologize for Jason behavior, instantly she and Cleveland are attracted to each other. Wrestling with her loyalty to Jason, which wasn't warranted, because of his infidelity, and pressure from Cleveland, Rina realize that she cared for Jason, but never really loved him. Rina surrender to Cleveland's passion and protection.
This is one of my favorite's from Rochelle Alers, if you want romance, RECKLESS SURRENDER is the highest form of romance.

Great love story!.......2007-08-18
This is the first book I read of Marcia's. Such a sweet love story - clean, but oh, so romantic! I was hooked! I have since bought every one of Marcia's books. This tells a lot, because I am the kind of person who usually just checks out books at the library. They have to be really good for me to buy them. My daughter is a reluctant reader, but I felt confident suggesting Marcia's books to her. She loved them and has read each several times. She can't find anyone who compares.
Loved it!!.......2007-06-19
This is one of the best books I have ever read. It had an interesting plot as well as a wonderful, tasteful romance. I'm looking forward to reading more books by this author.
Beautiful historical romance.......2007-01-11
In this story, Geneva Bankmans runs away from home in order to escape an arranged marriage. Instead, she accepts the proposal of a grumpy Irishman named Brevan McLean as a mail-order bride, to be his wife only in name and to help him with his farm. There are plenty of funny mishaps and angry outbursts that all eventually lead them to fall in love, but of course not without mysterious intruders and the past that continues to haunt them both.
I would give any of Marcia's books no less than FIVE STARS, because that's what they all deserve. It is absolutely amazing, the writing skill of this woman. She can weave a spell with her magical words and transport you to the exact time and place of the story. It is beautiful historical romance, but without smutty trash or preachy Christian ties. It's filled with sweet kisses, healing kisses, promising kisses. If you're looking for an amazing romance story that will keep you riveted from beginning to end, this is it! Page one will pull you in and you won't be able to put it down till the early hours of the morning. You won't regret buying this book.
If you feel the offers are too expensive or the books are unavaliable, try Googling her name or look for her publishing company, Distractions, Inc. All her books are avaliable for under $20 at her website and are worth every penny. Spread the word, because Marcia is entirely too underrated and overlooked.
beautiful story.......2006-05-24
I read two to three books a week at work and nothing compares to The Heavenly Surrender. It is a wonderful romance with the best kisses you will ever read without being dirty. It is also very funny. I had a hard time answering the phone at work because I was laughing.
It is a story about a girl named Geiniva who leaves home to marry a man she has never met before. She needs a place to live, and something to keep her working. He needs someone to help him run the farm. It is a marriage in name only. Both of them have secrets that eventually come out. It is well written and never dull.

Customer Reviews:
More Than a Book............2002-12-08
Jeff Hutner, Editor of the New Paradigm Digest said it best for me:
More than a book, Radical Therapy is a path to reconnecting to our soul's wholeness; a simple, elegant, effective and profound healing tool. More importantly, Radical Therapy is a way into the underlying Unified Field of Love that lies beyond the pain of the separation of our original state and the constant defense of the self-created ego prison most of us inhabit. In this breathtaking tour-de-force, Allen L. Roland, PhD, delivers simple truths that leap off the pages into your mind, heart and soul. Partaking in your own Radical Therapy assists in the penetration of long forgotten territory accessed through embracing our pain and surrendering to the exquisite field of love we have held ourselves from experiencing at great cost individually and collectively.
Radical Therapy goes where no therapy has gone before and delivers. Not content to promote more co-dependent therapist-client relationships that go on for months or years, Allen Roland is a wise teacher, coach, therapist and friend whose process is a proven path to liberation and discovery of our unique role in the unfolding story of life. Hundreds of his clients have made the journey he provides in this guide to self liberation. He proves once and for all that enlightenment is truly an inside job and that by ending our quest for answers from outside sources we may find our own truth.
This is the book we have been waiting for. It goes beyond all the wonderful partial answers and goes to the heart of the matter which it turns out is love. Drawing on the work of Einstein, Jung, and Chardin and sharing personal stories that describe liberated moments and states in his life and the lives of others, Roland provides a clear understanding that is the foundation of his powerful work with clients.
Were I to recommend one book that should be read by everyone, it would be Radical Therapy. Should it find the widespread audience it deserves, those liberated individuals could impact a world deeply out of touch with itself, filled with shadow projections that threaten our very existence. Liberated of our self-imposed prisons, connected to the Unified Field of Love and our unique part in the unfolding plan of humanity, non-linear, synchronistic, quantum events might unfold literally altering humanity's path towards inner peace, peace on earth and our co-creation of heaven on earth. It's a possibility worth our attention.
I pray this book reaches a worldwide audience in the millions thirsty for its deep truth and wisdom. Perhaps it will not just speak to those on the path, but those who are most blocked, most afraid to face their shadows and deep seated pain-people in places of power whose decisions usually help to continue the separation but could potentially liberate themselves and the world if they are willing to do the work of Radical Therapy. For this book is not just a prescription for individual transformation but that of the collective soul.
In the meantime, as individuals, we can reconnect with the loving place we all came from, alone, with a friend or therapist.and in only seven, two-hour sessions!
If you are reading this review, it is not an accident. Trust that you have connected with a long forgotten place in yourself and the world that seeks expression now. In this very moment, don't hesitate, go to origins website (originpress.com) and read more about this wonderful book and, if it resonates and you are truly ready to embark on the most difficult and powerful undertaking of your life, you may order your passport to a new world. If you are ready to surrender your old patterns and dive into the Unified Field of Love Allen illuminates, you can rest assured this is a journey you will not return from as the person who embarked upon it. You will never be the same. You will die to your old self like a snake shedding its skin, a caterpillar transformed into a butterfly or a pollywog who transforms into a frog and in that conscious dying you will be free at last to be your authentic self and give your special gift to a world awaiting it.
Once alive and glowing in the Unified Field of Love, you will act as a mirrored catalyst to others in your family, your work environment, school, or community, a living invitation to take their own sacred journey, And in so doing, you will be connecting with the deepest aspect of your Self, others and the Unified Field of Love that animates all life in all dimensions, which will in turn, be amplified and accelerated again and again resulting in more and more connections of the field to itself leading to the possibility of conscious evolution and the materialization of the Unified Field of Love as Heaven on Earth.
Enjoy the ride....
