A spirited Irishwoman comes to a rugged Colorado town to govern a young ruffian and learns a love lesson from the boy's father....In the midst of a blizzard, a snowbound woman offers shelter to a mysterious stranger....Home for the holidays, an artist proves opposites can attract when she falls for an unconventional doctor....A holly berry-picking contest in the California hills brings two determined hearts together for the greatest prize of all....A lively family reunion on a Montana ranch brings on a flurry of memories for a beautiful young writer -- and a winter storm that rekindles an old flame....
However, I REALLY liked Linda's little tale. Her tale starts out like so many dates that we have and just choose not to talk about..but, this time, instead of showing the guy the door, we show a little more. The chemistry in this is just phenomenal. And, hey, let's face it..this is why we women read romance novels and especially why we read Linda Howard..THE SEX!! I have never wanted to be a character as bad as I wanted to be that girl. One word describes this tale...GRRRRR. The rest of the stories are fluffy and sweet, but if you want REALLY good dreams, ditch the rest and just read Linda.
Book Description
Imagine Clara McCallum's astonishment when she steps off an old-fashioned locomotive from a movie set and finds herself whisked back in time to 1941, and into the arms of Jed Landry, a man whom Clara has read about and studied, a man who is very much alive in 1941 but whom she knows will die a hero at Normandy three years later-or is it 62 years ago?
Clara's convinced it's some sort of hallucination, but before long she finds herself swept away by the handsome soldier, and wondering if maybe her plunge into the past could change the course of the future-and turn out to be the best Christmas present ever.

Best Book Ever.......2007-06-13
I read all the time, but this has to be my favorite book. I am obsessed with the 1940's, so when I found out that part of this book was set in that time period, I had to read it. It was really easy to get attached to the characters. I'd definitely recommend it.
A keeper.......2006-12-31
I would give this book 10 stars! It is one of, if not THE, best book I have read in a long time and I read up to 3, sometimes 4 books a week. A very heartwrenching, heartwarming, touching romance. I read it in one sitting, couldn't put it down. I cried at the end, something I rarely, if ever do with a book or movie. Thank goodness it was 2 a.m. when I finished it and was tired or I would have kept crying. I did fall asleep with tears in my eyes.
The story of Clara and Jed is a classic romance with a paranormal twist. DON'T MISS THIS EXCEPTIONAL BOOK!
excellent time travel romance .......2006-12-10
In New York City, Dr. Swensen informs Clara McCallum that she has breast cancer; the shook up actress wants to go home, but knows she must remain in the City to film a movie while also beginning treatment. Her film role calls for her to be in love with a real American hero, Jed Landry of Westchester County who died in Normandy.
On the set, Clara rides an early twentieth century train, but when she gets off something is not right. Instead of being on a movie set, she is somehow in 1941 New York seeing the real Jed. Both are stunned by their love at first sight attraction, but by morning she returns to Manhattan to start the cancer treatment. As each think about the other, both wonder how to get back into each other's arms.
This is an excellent time travel romance because the likable lead pair seems real as they spend plenty of time separately in different eras resolving personal issues and trying to figure out a way to get back with their beloved. The story line is driven by Clara and Jed though more her than him. Fans will appreciate this superb tale as Jed struggles with IPods playing I'll Be Home for Christmas, just which era remains the question.

4 stars.......2006-12-05
Actress Clara McCallum gets devastating news just as she's on top of the world and making her break as a star. Determined to carry on as well as she can despite the disease she has, Clara continues work on her movie about a hero of WWII; then, in a second's time, the movie set becomes reality, and she's in the world she's only supposed to be acting in. There, she meets Jed Landry, and like her character was supposed to, begins to fall in love with him. Even when she returns to her own time, both hearts and minds are filled with each other. Since Clara has figured out how to initiate the step between times, she does so, again and again, all the while knowing that the War that is responsible for her knowing about Jed is coming and will inevitably end their chances.
**** Despite the gloomy subjects of war and cancer, Clara's story is a heart-warming, uplifting tale. Though the mechanism of HOW Clara's leaps through time is never satisfactorily explained, it is possibly one of the most logically worked out time-travel romances to date. Grab a box of tissues and enjoy this feel good novel. ****

Book Description
Twenty-one year old Lea Raines has spent her short life trying to fill the deep void in her soul. She travels to her ancestral home in England, in search of the peace she had never known. One night, overwhelmed by loneliness and empty dreams, she makes a wish never realizing that sometimes they do come true...
Her knight was nothing like she had imagined.
In twelfth century England Lord Bayard serves as a knight during the realm of King Stephan. Lea sees through the harsh, indifferent attitude of Lord Bayard. Behind his sarcasm and tough demeanor lies the heart of a true knight-strong, loyal and honor bound to protect those who depend on him. She knew he was her destiny. But she never realized how difficult it was going to be convincing her knight-minus-chivalric-qualities that she was his destiny.

3 Stars of Romantic Fun!.......2004-08-09
My favorite genre in romance is time travel. I've just about read every one of them out there. This book was very dichotomous for me. On one hand, I loved the characters Lea and Beyar -- they both had such great qualities in their personalities, and I enjoyed seeing how they would get together. The general storyline was solid -- a girl is thrown back to the 12th century and must adapt to the cultural mores and to Lord Beyar. I liked it enough to read the entire book, because I was curious to see how it would end. Overall, it had the makings of a 5-star book!
The other side to this dichotomous book is where it earns the low amount of stars. There were spelling and grammatical errors galore! While reading this story, I grew frustrated that the author did not take more care in editing her work, or have a strong editor to review her work. Some of the spelling errors were just awful! Grammatically, if one is an award-winning author, one should be versed enough to know how commas are used, when words should be capitalized, and know that it is "just her and me" and not "just she and I." The FIRST PAGE of the story had two spelling errors, which tipped me off that I might be starting a potential disappointment. Granted, this might be Empson's first major novel, but that is why more care should have been placed on this potentional masterpiece.
Another flaw to the book -- minus the grammar and spelling -- was the lack of curiosity from Lord Beyar about Lea's past. If he were developing such strong feelings for her throughout the book, one would think he would want to know why she spoke differently, why she used slang and did not know any of the standard social customs of the 12th century. As a landowning lord of the 12th century, these men were very protective of their lands and their servants, so it came as quite a surprise that he never seemed to question where she came from (other than the pond where he found her). Furthermore, when Lord Richard disappeared at the end of the story, Beyar just blindly accepted that Lea was from 800 years in the future (no questioning whether she was sane or not) and that Richard was safe. Don't worry, there is a sequel to this book, so I'm not giving anything away.
The interaction between Beyar and Lea at the beginning of the book was just downright tacky. Lea sounded like she was using all of her one-liner insults on Beyar, as if she were a comedian on Comedy Central. After a while the barbs became boring, due to the constant "machine gun fire" of put-downs coming from Lea. Beyar did not really do anything to merit such insults. Instead of Lea being insulting and sarcastic to her rescuer, she should have been more confused, unsure of where she was, and a little scared that she was in a new place with a man who has a big horse and a sharp sword.
There were some great moments in this story! That is why it is so hard to give this book less stars than I would like. However, as a versed reader in time travel romances, I cannot help but be frustrated that Empson did not take more care in her book to ensure that it was a top-quality product before releasing it.
[AuthorZone] Book Review.......2003-07-19
It is 1141 when Lord Bayard is surprised to find a drowning woman in a pond. Lea, who entered the pool in the twentieth century is just as surprised to realize Bayard is a knight, horse, sword, medieval dress and all. Thus begin the misguided adventures for modern Lea and medieval Bayard. She meets Richard of the lovely smile, Sara who causes her much jealousy, Logan who claims to be Bayard's father.
Captured by the lecherous Logan; Lea is held in a dark, dreary old farmhouse, guarded by thugs and determines to escape. Fearing that Bayard is dead Lea manages to kill Logan, escape the hovel where she has been held and make her way back to the pond where she entered this world. Returning to modern times and her former job as a secretary holds little appeal, however, without Bayard Lea figures life in this world is as bleak. A raging whirlpool is the conduit between the two worlds. Richard and Bayard leap into the water in an effort to rescue Lea. One of them returns to modern times, while the other two remain in an earlier day.
I like this type of `from here to there and back again tale'.
In Only In My Dreams Writer Empson has produced an estimable tale filled with dynamic characters, sure fire attention grabbing dialogue, setting and intrigue. The notion that we might be able to move from time to time, space to space is an intriguing one. Some writers are able to pull it off more convincingly than others. Writer Empson's Only In My Dreams is a dandy read.
Only In My Dreams is a pleasantly puzzling account at times filled with Lea and her modernistic slang, profanity and reasoning resonating off of Bayard and his medieval methodology, palaver and thinking. The premise might have proven difficult to carry off. Writer Empson pulls it all together with aplomb. Logan is a dastardly fellow, Lea a likeable gal who learns to make the most of situations and Bayard a hero of the old type.
All together the book is a fun, entertaining romp to be enjoyed on a lazy afternoon.

Excellent first story.......2006-06-02
I loved this book I had read Kirkland and Chevy stories first so I had to go back to Grayson. But I agree with the other reviewer if I heard Alex name one more time I was going to scream. As for Sutton to me she was spoiled she blames everyone for Alex cheating on her I can see if she didn't know but she knew he was cheating and stayed with him then came up with all kinds of excuses as to why she stayed. I really think she was unfair to Kirkland it wasn't his job to save her marriage it was her job to leave when she knew she didn't love Alex and to have a baby she knew that was his was of keeping her in the marriage. I'm sorry she was weak. All in all I'm glad her and Grayson got together I love Grayson he's a take charge kind of man. Keep up the good work Ms. White.
great but halfway through the book sags.......2005-04-26
i thougtht it was great, but if i heard alexs (suttons ex husband) name one more time i was going to scream, the authot put too much attention on that jerk. and mother galloway was a witch, the heroinne let her control her because the witch had compromising pictures of her and the hero grey. so she spends a month (a chapter in the book) with that old psycho telling her how to act what to do, i think the heroinne should have slapped that old hag and told her to do whatver she wanted with the pictures. or better yet get some dirt on her so she wont be able to blackmail her anymore. the herionne seemed a little too weak to me.
Only in My Dreams.......2004-03-23
I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed reading about Greyson and Sutton. When I got to the last 50 pages and I went back to the beginning and started reading it again because I didn't want the story to end. I don't think there is a woman alive who doesn't dream of the kind of love that Greyson had for Sutton. The great thing is that he made no bones about it once he decided to return home and begin his life with her. His love definitely made him willing to take the good with the bad to ensure their life was going to be together and not apart. The simple act of preparing her food before he ate is own is so touching and romantic and such a strong symbol of his love for her, it just made me sigh. This book will definitely stay in my library to be revisited often, I'm sure. Also, the family closeness and the relationship betwenn Greyson, Chevy and Kirkland just made my heart full.
Are you considering a story for Chevy and Maddie?
Great read.......2003-12-16
I really enjoyed reading this story. I like the small town feel and the family atmoshpere that was shown through out the book. The characters were real and it was easy to identify with both Greyson and Sutton. They were two who alhtough they knew they belonged together allowed family obligations and other issues to get in the way. I was glad they found their way back to each other. I am looking forward to reading more with Chevy and Maddie.
Only In My Dreams.......2003-11-26
OMG This book was amazing. Sutton and Greyson so much love you could feel there love reading this story. Sierra was so cute. We now need Chevy and Kirkland's story. I can't say enough about this book. Ms. White you have a new fan, keep the books coming.

AN UNLIKELY MATCH...
Driven into an arranged marriage, Baroness Lorelei Winters is once again the talk of the ton. A wealthy orphan raised by governesses, Lorelei's fierce independence and sullied reputation kept her apart from proper British society... particularly the gentlemen. But she needs a husband, even one in name only, to give her respectability and the family she always longed for. And the brash, strikingly handsome aristocrat she has wed seems to need her as much as she needs him.
MADE IN HEAVENRaised in America but returned to England to assume his birthright, Adrian Rutland, Viscount Dane needs an English bride to enter society, a woman of manners and grace. But Adrian finds himself captivated by the ferocious chestnut-haired beauty and snatches her from a dreadful match by wedding her himself. Lorelei's sparkle and spirit match his own. Could what began as a marriage of convenience spark something deeper?
Customer Reviews:
Delicious!.......2004-10-12
A guest review by Danielle Hill
Heroine: voluptuous
Lorelei, Baroness Winters, has made an art of making sure that others' hurtful words cannot penetrate the cheerfully flamboyant, careless shell she has constructed around herself. All her life she has dealt with cutting remarks about her large size to the point that she makes a joke of it before anyone else can. She had made herself indispensable to the members of the ton as confidant to women and boon companion to the men although she hears every spiteful word that they say about her behind her back.
But the time has come for her to marry, even if it isn't for love. She has settled on a lord who's much more interested in hunting and his horses so there is no chance of him breaking her heart. Enter the American Adrian Rutland, newly appointed Viscount Dane, who is in need of an English bride so that his family can gain the respectability that it lacks. He takes one look at the tall, voluptuous Baroness and knows that she is meant to be his Viscountess. He simply has to convince the vulnerable Lorelei of that fact.
Lorelei is literally swept off her feet by the brash, intelligent and undeniably attractive American, although deep down she doubts that he could ever be captivated by her. So she is shocked when he comes up to scratch with an offer for her. Lorelei is now faced with a dilemma. Should she marry for convenience, or for love--even with the risk of heartbreak that it entails?
What worked for me:
This book was a pleasure to read from the first sentence. As a woman who has always been tall and curvy, I could totally identify with Lorelei. She's a wonderful character who has learned to make the most of herself and has had to deal with the loneliness and isolation inherent in her position. Byron makes her vulnerabilities heartbreakingly apparent to the reader despite her formidable strength of character. I love it that there is a man who is made for her in Adrian. He takes one look at her and he sees the most beautiful woman in the world and decides that he's going to have her. He never strays in his devotion, despite the fact that there are times when Lorelei's insecurities must be very frustrating. This book is a love story in the truest sense. The main characters' feelings are rich even at the beginning, and they only deepen as the book progresses.
Size-wise Adrian's first view of Lorelei inspires these thoughts: "She had to be over six feet tall, and her figure...She was a veritable hourglass of feminine curves, though on an ample scale, with full breasts and wide hips separated by a thicker-than-acceptable curve of waist...In his eyes, she was beauty and grace. A real woman, rather than merely female."
What didn't work for me:
Nothing was a problem for me in this novel. I found it beautiful in its simplicity. There are other elements, but the crux of the book never strays for the wonderful love story that Eve Bryon tells.
Overall:
Only in My Dreams is a wonderful book that almost brought tears to my eyes. The love story about two souls who were made for each other and find completion in each other is pure and touching.
Warning: The sensuality is subtle but stirring. There was nothing in this book that would offend except that Lorelei's contemporaries take her for granted and make rude comments about her weight and height. It made me angry on her behalf.
If you liked "Only in my Dreams" you might also enjoy "Somebody to Love", "Slightly Wicked", "Miss Carlyle's Curricle", "Into Temptation", "Suddenly You", "The Accidental Bride", "The Bride and the Beast", "The Fire-Flower", "The Last Days of a Rake", "Cat and the Countess", "The Courtship", or "Enchanting Pleasures".
Let's Hear it for the Big Girls!!!.......2003-01-28
Merry, Baroness Winters, is an orphan who yearns for the one thing she has never had: a family of her own. Unfortunately, her cold reception at her come-out years ago was a harsh reality check, and she knows no one will ever marry her. She is content now to be the comic relief of the party, the one men come to for advice on other women, the socialite everyone calls Merry--for surely, Lorelei is a ludicrous name for such a large and "well-endowed" woman.
Adrian Rutland doesn't think so. Viscount Dane, new to the ton and to the shores of England, spots her in the crowd. He is immediately entralled with Lorelei, and doesn't understand society's opinion of her at all. She is intelligent, witty, independent, and Adrian finds her beautiful. Perplexingly, the more this immensely attractive man pursues her, the more Lorelei backs away.
Events lead to a marriage of convenience, but that alone will not surmount Lorelei's negative self-image or her deep fear of rejection. And just as Adrian begins to make some headway, circumstances will force him to abandon his new wife, shattering her vulnerable heart all over again...
I thought this romance was a great hommage to large ladies everywhere. I felt the pain and isolation Merry was hiding behind her self-deprecating persona, and I understood the strong instinct of self-preservation that made her reject Dane. I loved Adrian for his patience in trying to get her to see herself as he did, and for nurturing her confidence. I appreciated that Byron did not make Adrian perfect, either, but gave him a few foibles, which included a boyish desire to be seen as a swashbuckling manly hero by his lady even though he wears glasses and can be a little awkward. The scene where he decides to dramatically sweep her up in his arms is hilarious...and realistic.
You will have to look for this book in used book stores or online, but it's worth it if you're looking for a heroine whose dimensions are more like the average woman's.
A GOOD BOOK.......1999-11-28
I found this book to be a good read. A pre-arranged marriage is something I find difficult to comprehend. . .I did enjoy the book. If you want to read a book that goes straight to your heart, read Stolen Moments by Barbara Jeanne Fisher. . .It is a beautiful story of unrequited love. . .for certain the love story of the nineties...
This is one of those special romances.......1998-04-27
Over a decade has passed since Baroness Loreli Wildwood scandalized society in 1802. By 1812, Loreli knows that she must have a respectable spouse if she is ever to bring back the honor her name and title deserves. Loreli also craves having a loving family of her own.
American Adrian Rutland arrives in London as an English nobleman, who feels like a lonely rustic colonialist when he appears among the sophisticated Ton. However, he finds himself feeling a lot better when he meets Loreli. Though the couple plan a marriage of convenience, sparks fly and ultimately they fall in love with each other. However war between their native lands is imminent and their new found love could be destroyed as a result of their divided loyalties.
ONLY IN MY DREAMS is a fun to read Regency romance that will thrill fans of the sub-genre and any reader who enjoys a marriage of convenience story line. Eve Byron shows her abundance of talent by freshening up the typical tale with insight from both sides on the pending Anglo-Atlantic War. The intrepid but scarred lead characters add much to the conflict, further turning this historical romance into must reading. Ms. Byron is quickly rising to the elite class of Regency authors.
