The book is fanastic! It has great ideas to put into practice in your daily living that make you feel better as well as the people that you come in contact with everyday. It is a must read book for EVERYONE!

3 out of 5 stars Not his best work!.......2007-09-25

This is co-authored by John and Les. Les does not write well and does not add much value to Johns ideas. So essentially only 1/2 of this book is worth reading.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome little book on winning with people.......2007-06-26

While a lot of the "tips" this book gives are really common sense, it's something that not everyone thinks about. What this little book manages to do is present 25 ways to win people in an easy to read and follow format which you can instantly start applying to your everyday life. One of the ways to win people over is to write them a personal note and the first thing I did after reading that chapter was to put the book down and write my wife a note letting her know how much I appreciate and love her. If you're like me you will not be able to put this book down for long until you completely finish reading it.

5 out of 5 stars Practical Application, Short Chapters, Solid Principles.......2006-12-10

Many reviewers said that this book is "fluffy" or that Perrott gives too much "Maxwell-worship" throughout the book. This may be true, but I actually enjoyed reading about all of the ways that Maxwell has practically shown these concepts in action. I enjoyed the short chapters that tackle simple concepts one-at-a-time. I read this book with my wife and we were able to discuss each chapter together due to the thought-provoking applications suggested at the end of each chapter.

Applying the 25 concepts in this book requires more than reading this book, they are an art (but then again, so are all social skills). This book is a great introduction to some principles that should be common-sense, but in today's self-gratifying culture, it is refreshing to read about the art of focusing on others.

I recommend this book to anyone who works with people, lives with people, or converses with people.

Book Description

When Legendary Negro League player Buck O'Neil asked sports columnist Joe Posnanski how he fell in love with baseball, Posnanski had to think about it. From that question was born the idea behind BASEBALL AND JAZZ. Posnanski and the 94 year old O'Neil decided to spend the 2005 baseball season touring the country in hopes of stirring up the love that first drew them to the game. This book is just as much the story of Buck O'Neil as it is the story of baseball. In a time when disillusioned, steroid–shooting, money hungry athletes define the sport, Buck O'Neil stands out as a man that truly played for the love of the game. Posnanski writes about that love and the one thing that O'Neil loved almost as much as baseball: jazz. BASEBALL AND JAZZ is an endearing step back in time to the days when the crack of a bat and the smoky notes of a midnight jam session were the sounds that brought the most joy to a man's heart.

4 out of 5 stars Buck: Almost too good to be true.......2007-09-23

Like many baseball followers, my admiration for Buck O'Neil can be traced to Ken Burns' documentary on baseball. How a black man could live through the era in which Buck lived with the attitudes he has is beyond me. (I am white, not American but lived in the US in the 60s and 70s.) Mr Posnanski's book is is a little too sugary, uncritical and unprobing for my liking. I cannot but help to think that with a little probing there is probably bit more to Buck's attitudes than is presented. However, if you want a feel-good book about this topic, this is the dream book.

5 out of 5 stars On the road with Buck.......2007-09-10

A splendid collection of stories, told by one of our most valuable citizens, and conveyed by a very talented listener and writer.

5 out of 5 stars I Knew Buck O'Neil.......2007-08-24

A great read of a great human being, and baseball man. I would see Buck several times a year in the '80s at the Detroit Tigers, Joker Marchant Stadium, when he was a scout with the Kansas City Royals. He was a pleasant a man you could ever meet. I am pleased to have known the man, even if only those brief moments I was able see and to talk to him.

Buy this book, and read a great tribute of this man and to the Negro Leagues of the past.

3 out of 5 stars A year in the life of Buck O'Neil.......2007-08-23

I found the book very readable and never really got bored with it. I would have liked more in depth stories from when Buck played and managed. Most of the reminisces were short and sweet versions. All and all, I did enjoy the book and consider it a good book, not a great book.

3 out of 5 stars Hmmm..........2007-08-08

I can't help but wonder if the 22 reviews -- all giving this book 5 stars -- are some of the author's closest friends. I am not saying I didn't like the book, but the writing was drab. Through the first few chapters, I got it, Buck O'neal was a good man. So, I'm just saying that the stories were not told in a way that made me connect with Mr. O'Neal --he was just a nice guy and then he died. There are a few editing errors as well, which made it confusing. I am by no means a critic of writing, but I just don't see the amazing book everyone else here did -- anyone agree with me?

I thought this book was very informative and helpful in preparing me for the CPC Exam.I liked the Cd-Rom which was included because that helped me monitor my own progress in reference to what i learned from the material in the book and also if I could complete the exam in the time allotted for me to take it.I would recommend future exam books like these to others who may be taking the same exam in the future.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT GREAT GREAT!.......2007-06-10

THe content is thorough and well presented. Includes your medical terminology and anatomy with the prospective system being taught within each chapter! Chapter quizes and op reports are terrific. GREAT tool for preparing to take the CPC exam!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent book for coding students.......2007-05-01

This book helped me a great deal to study for my final in the PMCC course. I would reccomend in highly.

4 out of 5 stars Great practice.......2007-03-14

This book truly helped me prepare for the AAPC National exam. The book provides you with 2 different practice exams that are almost equivalent to the questions on the actual exam. Time is a factor when you are actually taking the exam. You are provided 5 hours for 150 questions, and although that sounds like alot of time, it really is not. As this book comes with a CD that times you while taking the practice tests, I feel that it helped me get a better feel of how much time is really required to complete the exam. I passed the exam that I took in Feb 07 and I honestly feel that this book contributed to my passing.

I am very pleased with the book. I think it will help me with my certification for the CPC

This is the standard text for introductory advanced undergraduate and first-year graduate level courses in signal processing. The text gives a coherent and exhaustive treatment of discrete-time linear systems, sampling, filtering and filter design, reconstruction, the discrete-time Fourier and z-transforms, Fourier analysis of signals, the fast Fourier transform, and spectral estimation. The author develops the basic theory independently for each of the transform domains and provides illustrative examples throughout to aid the reader. Discussions of applications in the areas of speech processing, consumer electronics, acoustics, radar, geophysical signal processing, and remote sensing help to place the theory in context. The text assumes a background in advanced calculus, including an introduction to complex variables and a basic familiarity with signals and linear systems theory. If you have this background, the book forms an up-to-date and self-contained introduction to discrete-time signal processing that is appropriate for students and researchers. Discrete-Time Signal Processing also includes an extensive bibliography.

1 out of 5 stars Academic Propaganda.......2007-05-14

Look, problems involving digital signals and systems can get very complicated, but the basics are just that--basic. This famous book on DSP is a quintessential example of academic propaganda: it misinforms the general public into thinking the subject matter is far harder than it is, while it privately informs insiders with very precise information.

5 out of 5 stars Destined for a standard?.......2006-05-14

It is my pleasure to comment on this book which I recently purchased. I have two of Dr. Oppenheim's previous books. This book is a core integration of a topic with too many diverse starting points (mine was digital filters derived from Prony's method, not in the book by name). Dr. Bose was my first EE Professor. Alan Oppenheim was my second EE instructor. Alan (just finished MSEE at the time) had not published a book yet, but his focus was always on your questions. His product was your understanding. If this book is for your shelf, it will not harm it. If this topic is for your mind, this book was meticulously written for you. Lance Webb, PhDEE

5 out of 5 stars Six star book on Digital Signal Processing.......2006-03-01

This is the outstanding 2nd edition of Oppenheim's classic DSP book, which for over two decades was the only real choice for a textbook on the subject. That was too bad, since the first edition was probably the worst thing I have ever seen in print - terse, incomprehensible, and with only a few awful and poorly illustrated examples. When I decided to take a refresher course in DSP, I was horrified to see our class would be using the second edition of that horrendous text. What I found instead was a completely rehabilitated textbook! This is not a beginner's DSP textbook by any stretch of the imagination, but absolutely everything is explained and there are plenty of well worked out examples. The end-of-chapter problems are broken down into simple, intermediate, and advanced problems with quite a few mind-puzzlers in the advanced section. Plus, the answers to the first 20 problems in every chapter are in the back of the book.
There is really nothing unique about the book's format. What does makes the book unique is the density and amount of material included. Just about every page is packed with well-explained important information. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has had a prior semester of an upper-level undergraduate class in Signals and Systems and wants to study DSP. An accompanying book that you might find helpful is "Understanding Digital Signal Processing" by Lyons. That book is good for getting an intuitive feel for DSP. Another book that will help you with some of the earlier concepts in this book (linear systems, DTFT, Z-transform, DFT, basic filter design) and some of the direct computations involved is "Schaum's Outline of Digital Signal Processing". 5 out of 5 stars Good book from initial reading.......2005-09-26

I haven't gone through this book all the way yet since classes haven't started; however, it seems to be a very well written book that is easy to get the necessary concepts out of easily. Once the class is done I will try to add a further review.

4 out of 5 stars yes, it is!.......2004-12-26

This is the book that focuses on the concept more than any thing else which ,in turn, build up your insight through the material.

This book addresses discrete time signal processing issues in an ordinary fashion and doesn't cover more advanced topics like wavelets or statistical signal processing.

Maybe you would be interested in this book if you are that senior/first year graduate student looking forward a nice job with a high salary or a DSP engineer that is interested in keeping his job :)

Overall, nothing can get better than Oppenheim DSP 1975 but however, this is a nice volume if you don't have the preceding one.
It is almost the same quality isn't it?

This book is great on information and the way they explain everything. The problem is there is no answer keys on the chapter review questions. This is hard if you are doing this as a self study. You have no way of checking your answers. I had to enroll through evolve's on line self study program to get the answers. The cost was $39.95. This on line self study is well worth the money. They ask questions that is not in the book. There is a workbook that goes with this book. The workbook is good as far as giving you practice exercises. The problem is you only get answers on the odd number questions. You have no idea if the even number questions are right.

5 out of 5 stars Toxic Parents: Overcoming Their Hurtful Legacy & Reclaiming Your Life.......2007-07-07

This book, for me, was very hard to put down. Reading other peoples' experiences and the results in their lives was heartrending and helped me feel less alone. The letters to parents helped me start to formulate letters to mine. This book was recommended by my therapist, and it has given me the strength to move forward.

I HIGHLY recommend it. Thank you!

4 out of 5 stars eye opener.......2007-05-08

This book along with a couple of others on the subject have helped me to have peace with my hurtful childhood. I had pretty much adopted the attitude that I received the hand that I was dealt in life. Now I'm beginning to see that things could have been much better had I had parents who bothered to take an interest in me other than what I could do for them. The good news is I feel empowered to break the cycle and provide loving feedback for my children at all times.

4 out of 5 stars "And you were wondering why...".......2007-05-01

It is rare that any of us grow up in "perfectly-parented" households; after all we're imperfect humans. Some of us have had really difficult, complex upbringings. Yet, we can move on and make the best of our lives with the help of information offered in this book. It opened a new vista for me, and parents should find it thought-provoking for their own relationships, especially in regard to both their parents and their children.

It was a great help to recognize the psychological types in my parents. For a couple of years in my adulthood my mother and I even "divorced" each other. Although we were not able to resolve all our issues before her death, we were finally able to function on relatively friendly terms in the last years of her life.

Although individual situations often warrant consulting a professional counselor, this book is an invaluable tool for identifying and recognizing the problematic traits, reasons for the behaviors, and ways to move beyond the differences, so you don't wallow in the blame-game. Depending on one's spiritual inclination, blame cannot be laid entirely on the parent. There may be karmic dynamics that call for healing.

Book Description

Stone Houses is a unique presentation of a beloved building tradition in one of the most charming and historically significant regions in the nation. Part of the original Pennsylvania Colony, founded in 1682, Bucks County is important not only as an early English colony in America but also as a crucial site in the struggle for American independence. Architectural historians Margaret Bye Richie and Gregory D. Huber and photographer Geoffrey Gross survey twenty-four houses and barns dating from this early period, detailing their English Cotswold vernacular style and distinctive construction from local stone.
Among the fascinating and delightful buildings included in Stone Houses are McConkey's Ferry Inn (ca. 1750s), Washington's headquarters on the night of his historic crossing over the Delaware River, as well as the Thompson-Neely House (1766), which served as his officers' headquarters that famous night; Pennsbury Manor, the home of William Penn (begun in 1683 and restored in 1939); Summerseat (1725), the home at various times of three signers of the Declaration of Independence; and Buckingham Friends Meeting House (1768), the oldest building in the country continuously in its original use. With its authoritative text and stunning full-color photography, Stone Houses of Bucks County is a beautiful record of a historically rich building tradition.

1 out of 5 stars inadequate.......2007-03-06

I found it nice but inadequate, since actually useful information was small part of the lot, from an architectural point of view.

4 out of 5 stars BEAUTIFUL STONE.......2006-11-14

I have always thought the stone used on houses in the Philadelphia area was beautiful; it's warm and elegant. This book has crisp images and well researched, interesting text on these wonderful homes. If you have any interest in this subject then I highly recommend this book, you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful book, great pictures.......2005-10-21

This book contains a wonderful pictorial view of stone houses, better than I've ever seen. It includes all forms of construction and gives very informative descriptions of each style. The history related here is invaluable to the reader, as it takes you back in time. The pictures are full color and very articulately done. I found the colors presented in the homes helpful to me in restoring our stone house, built in the 1830's. This book is more than a "coffee table" book, it's a history lesson.

5 out of 5 stars Great book.......2005-07-21

Wonderful photos and very interesting and informative text.
Exceptional detail photos of insides of dwellings. Nice to see my family homes done so well, ie The Pusey house and Primative Hall.

5 out of 5 stars CCS CODING EXAM REVIEW - CERTIFICATION STEP.......2007-09-18

Even though I have not yet taken the exam, I have found the book to be an excellent resource before the exam, and will continue to use the book as a reference book after I take the exam. Very user friendly.

3 out of 5 stars CSS Exam Prep.......2007-07-30

The book is very complete as information with many details that one would need refreshing every so often. Each chapter has a test, a very good test I can say. The downfall is the CD; there is no feed back to your answers, only the percentage you achieved. That may not be enough for someone who is trying to learn. We do learn from our mistakes, so no feed back, how would one know what did wrong?
The CD is the downfall for this book.

1 out of 5 stars do not buy this book.......2007-05-07

I bought three CCS review guides to prepare for the CCS exam. This one was NO help whatsoever. I had been studying with my other two books (AHIMA's and Thompson's) and picked this one up the weekend before the test. I liked that it had CCS-like exams to take on a CD. I was studying with a friend of mine so we both decided to take the pre-test. This was the day before we took the exam. I scored -103, yes negative 103 and she scored 30, meaning we both flunked. We were so discouraged. so threw that book aside and called it a day. The CD and the book gave us no hint as to what we did wrong with the test, what we needed to study further. No help whatsoever.
We both took the CCS the next day and passed with flying colors. If we had let this book discourage us we would not now be both CCS certified.

If I could give it no stars I would

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars It is not 5.0; it is too generic, nothing technical in it.......2007-08-11

I appreciate that they have written a book that covers all the functional parts of the SAP CRM, BUT they should have specified it is useless for an IT professional and that it is only useful for an IT manager or Marketing person or even a financial person. There is not a hint for an IT person to understand how to link the campaigns to their analysis etc...

4 out of 5 stars mature CRM offering.......2006-10-03

SAP has recently been pushing hard its mySAP, in part to reach a larger market. Here, we see the buildout of its CRM version 4. Replete with many use cases [examples] to help the reader gain expertise. One case is to generate a repair order. The screen capture for this example depicts a GUI that is rich in many options that the reader might need for her situation.

Another big feature is the mySAP CRM Interaction Centre. Think of this as souped up help desks. With advanced searching of the data base of previous help queries and replies. So that the help desk personnel can productively make use of accumulated experience, and more quickly solve a user's problem.

The book also stresses efficient channel management, and that partners should be integrated into CRM for competitive advantages.

Much to read about.

2 out of 5 stars Good overview.......2006-03-01

If you are looking for an overview into CRM in general, this is a good book. If you want to learn anything in depth about SAP CRM this will not help you. There is nothing specific here about SAP CRM, no how to's, transactions, not even a detail explanation or example of a BDoc.

4 out of 5 stars Good insight in to CRM.......2005-10-24

4 out of 5 stars Good book.......2006-11-05

I'm finding this book quite interesting. It offers new ideas on health and holistic nutrition that conventional medicine hasn't explored. On the other hand, I felt it needed to include more scientific research and back up more of his comments and eliminate the "I think" ones - somehow one's feelings seem more appropriate to express in humanities subjects and not on nutrition.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference Book.......2006-06-25

I've been experimenting with orthomolecular nutrition for several years, and found Dr. Haas' book to be an invaluable resource. He gives ample information about each vitamin, mineral, etc. including deficiency and toxicity symptoms. It has been a very useful book.
