This is the classic from which many of our staff first learned to read, starting us on a path of unremitting bibliophilia. Are You My Mother? follows a confused baby bird who's been denied the experience of imprinting as he asks cows, planes, and steam shovels the Big Question. In the end he is happily reunited with his maternal parent in a glorious moment of recognition.
Book Description
Illus. in color. A baby bird is hatched while his mother is away. Fallen from his nest, he sets out to look for her and asks everyone he meets -- including a dog, a cow, and a plane -- "Are you my mother?"

Great book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-08-11
My mom got me this book when i was only a few months old. It is a great book. Since i am older i don't read it as much but i didn't forget about it yet! It has a baby bird who falls out of its nest and goes out looking for its mother and it asks so many animals and it finally finds her.The illustrations are great. I would recommend it to any beginner.
A lovely book!.......2007-07-18
This book could not be sweeter! My 5 yo adores this book. It shows the bond and love a Mother and child have from day one.
YIKES! SCARRY!.......2007-07-17
Not a good book for kids. Being lost and alone, searching for your mother or anyone that looks like you will not only frighten your child but also teach them that they must find someone that looks like them to feel safe and accepted. This book is dated and not child appropriate. :-(
a childhood favorite passed down.......2007-05-15
I am just thrilled to see that this classic is still going strong. I remember this from the early 70s as I was a young girl and my father read this to me daily. And now, I had the priviledge of introducing the book to my daughter about a year ago. It became an instant favorite since it involves all the favorite characters of a toddler's life: conversations with a dog, cow, chicken, cat etc. Parents that enjoy getting creative when reading to their children will love this book!
Still has the same magic.......2007-05-08
I just finished reading "Are you my Mother?" with my daughter, having not heard it since I was a child. This book still posesses the same magic it did for me all those years ago.
Highly recommended.

Book Description
"Everyone Poops by Taro Gomi is part biology textbook, part sociological treatise and all celebration of a very natural process. Both my daughters begged me to read the book over and over again. They marveled at the enormity of the elephant's poop and searched with the skill of a scientist for the tiny specks which represent bug poop. The text is simple and straightforward but not without humor.

Good buy.......2007-10-05
I decided to buy this book after seeing it recommended somewhere (can't remember where) while doing research on how I could help my 32 mo old daughter go #2 in the toilet. She was doing great with #1, but was having issues with the other. Anyway, before I got the book, she solved the issue herself. So, the book has just become fun reading for her. It did seem to help her to see that "Everyone Poops", which she already knew since she goes out into the yard with me to clean up after my dogs. I like that the illustrations are nice and colorful, which keeps her interested. It doesn't help so solve any real biological issues; just shows that everyone does it and it's ok to do.
Cute and informative!.......2007-10-01
Great choice for the "potty years"!!! A tactful and fun way to approach a "stinky" subject!
Great bathroom book!.......2007-09-27
This book really doesn't hold the interest of a potty training toddler, but we got a kick out of it! The book sits in our guest bathroom next to my son's potty... we get lots of laughing guests from this one!
Great introduction to learning about body functions.......2007-09-07
This is the perfect book for a two year old learning how to poop in the potty. Keep an open mind as there are poop photos on every page! I love the openness of the book and my son loves reading it..I really do believe that this book is going to be a great aid in getting him to go on the big boy potty.
clear and to the point.......2007-08-31
I worked in a bookstore for several years and customers were always asking for this book. It looked simple and at the time I thought it was silly. Years later I am starting to potty train my 22 month old son and I decide to buy this book and see what all the fuss was about. I am amazed at my sons reaction to this book. He loves it! Before this book he had made 1 poopie in the potty and was a little scared when he looked in and saw what he had done. He actually ran out of the room. When I started reading him this book his eyes got wide and he kept saying poo poo. It is perfect for a child. There is no confusion as to what he is seeing. It is also tastefully done. I highly recommend this book!

Great book for a new big brother or sister!.......2007-10-03
Purchased this book for 2-year old daughter before her brother was born. Would recommend purchasing before baby arrives so can talk about what is going to happen. This book has no words in it, but allows parents to talk about each page and what is happening. It walks the child through a typical day with a new baby...bathing, feeding, and even daddy taking them to the park (I always said so Mommy can sleep!). It shows the toddler helping with the baby and we were able to talk about safety and how things would change when the baby arrives. We purchased a few different books before 2nd child for 2-year old and this was the best one by far. Very simple, but effectivly gets the point across. Would recommend for any soon to be brother or sister!
Great discussion book.......2007-09-20
The lack of text made this book an excellent learning tool for the arrival of our son's baby sister.
It covers nearly all the situations that could happen once a new baby is introduced and puts all the attention of the big brother rather than on the new baby.
After our daughter was born, our son seemed to accept her new role in the family without question and I feel much of that ease was having talked about it using this book.
At one point, her crying was really annoying him and we brought out the book again to show him that this was completely normal. Worked like a charm.
My New Baby.......2007-09-09
My daughter is barely 2 years old and loves this book. She loves looking at the pictures and listening to the words I use to describe what's going on. The pictures are so cute that I don't mind that there aren't any words.
New sibling book.......2007-07-24
I bought this for my grandson to have when his new brother arrived. It was a big hit.
Great purchase........2007-07-21
I am very happy with this book. I love that it is only pictures so I can explain to my [..]about the new baby in my way. He loves it too and I think it is getting him excited for his new brother.
Book Description
What a perfect gift. Perfect for baby showers. Irresistible for a newborn, or for a one-, two-, even a three-year-old’s birthday. Ideal as a set that grandparents, aunts and uncles, in-laws, and close personal friends of the baby (babies have close personal friends?) will find particularly perfect to give. Housed in a bold, happy slipcase are three bestselling Boynton on Board books:
Barnyard Dance!, Oh My Oh My Oh My Dinosaurs!, and Pajama Time!
It’s the wonderfulest introduction to the world of Boynton—square-dancing pigs and sheep, wide-eyed dinosaurs, and a sleepy, PJ-clad menagerie. The books, which in their chunkiness present a deliciously tactile handful for little readers, sport die-cut covers that reveal a glimpse of the fun inside. And what fun it is! Big, bold, humorous, rhyming verses, and those ever-whimsical illustrations that have made Sandra Boynton one of America’s best-loved artists. A box of pure read-aloud pleasure.
Customer Reviews:
We love Boynton.......2007-09-24
As usual, great books for kids. Boynton's sense of humor and the cadence of the words she uses keeps kids and moms intrigued.
Boyton Rocks!.......2007-09-24
Sandra Boyton books are always a big hit at our house-she writes some terrific children's books that all kids seem to love!
Fun for parents, too!.......2007-09-15
Since becoming parents 7 1/2 years ago, we have read MANY MANY MANY children's books and I can easily say that Sandra Boynton is our family's favorite author. The illustrations are adorable and the stories are funny, sweet, silly, and quick (which is a huge bonus if it's aready past bedtime). Our hands-down favorite is "Barnyard Dance"...it's especially funny if you can read it as if you're actually the caller at a hoedown. Another favorite is "But Not the Hippopotamus" and "Horns to Toes and In Between" which is great for teaching body parts. If you're looking for silly, cute, and funny, Sandra's books do not disappoint.
Great for reading over and over!.......2007-09-11
My grandson is 2 years old and he loves thes books. The illustrations are fun and colorful and the verses rhyme and are catchy. After I read one of the books to him he sits down and "reads" it to himself, explaining the pictures.
Little ones love these books!.......2007-08-25
I love Sandra Boynton, and this collection has some of my favorites. I read them to my 1 month old and she loves to listen. I know they will be her favorites for several years to come. THe art is fun and colorful without being too busy for young eyes, and the rymes are cute and pleasant for young ears. We even use some of the words from Barnyard Dance during other play time ("with a neigh and a moo and a cockadoodledoo, another little promenade two by two)!

There's a Wocket in my Pocket is yet another prime catch in the vast sea of delectable Dr. Seuss books. It's difficult to find a Dr. Seuss book one wouldn't recommend highly, and this is no exception. Seuss's simple rhymes are consistently as amusing as they are useful; his books are bastions of creative nonsense that simultaneously encourage the joy of wordplay.
This edition of the 1974 treasure features vibrant full-color illustrations, with the added bonus of a virtually indestructible board-book format. Kids can hunt for the zamp in the lamp, the jertain behind the curtain, even the nooth grush on the toothbrush, and no matter how exuberant their exploring gets, the book will remain intact for the next reading. (Ages 0 to 4)
Book Description
There's a Wocket in My Pocket is filled with bizarre creatures and rhymes: the nupboard in the cupboard, ghairs beneath the stairs, and the bofa on the sofa!
Customer Reviews:
Seuss w/o the Seuss.......2007-10-07
We have both the real versions of these Seuss classics and a few of these "bored" book versions... they have most of the original drawings, but not all. The text is quite different, especially in Wocket. The fun, clever rhymes that have charmed generations of kids are missing here -- the versions in the board book are quite different, and not as charming. Get the real thing, your kids deserve it.
That vug under the rug.......2007-05-10
This is my second favourite Dr Seuss book, the first being Fox in Socks. I read this recently to my daughter for the first time in over 20 years, and it was still so very funny, and the vug under the rug, still a little scary.
CLASSIC.......2007-04-07
THE ONLY THING THAT I CAN SAY IS THAT YOU CAN'T BEAT THE PRICES ON THESE BOOKS FROM AMAZON. THEY WERE MY FAVORITES AS A KID AND NOW I GET TO ENJOY THEM ALL OVER AGAIN WITH MY OWN CHILDREN.
Review: "There's a Wocket in my Pocket!".......2007-03-30
I think this book is one of the best Dr. Seuss books. I believe this is an easy and very understandable way for for little kids in pre school or in young elemetary grades such as 1st and 2nd graders. This is a way they may begin reading then eventually they will begin to read harder books. I think this is an excellent book and a way little children may begin to strenghten their reading and writing skills.

Farts demystified.......2007-09-29
Apart from being a fun tutorial for a toddler, this is a great bathroom
read! It demystifies and destigmatizes the very natural fact that: We
pass gas! It offers an engaging explanation of why and how, and how
much gas we pass, and why it smells the way it does. This book will
leave you, your toddler, and your bathroom guests smiling and
smarter about something we just don't talk about much.
Funny.......2007-02-08
This is a great book for kids and adults too. It is funny and really makes it easy to talk about body functions. I gave this to my sister at her baby shower. It was a hit!
The story of my gas.......2006-11-09
This cleverly written book caused me to think for days about such things as farts and burps....I asked my son on the subject and he just attacked me and ran away...anywho i thought that the author picked a good topic to write about and it really helped me learn what the noise was that comes out of my behind actually is
Worst Book Ever Printed.......2006-11-09
I just got this book for my 4 year old daughter yesterday. The illustrations look as though a child has done them (the cover does not accurately represent the rest of the drawings inside). The story itself does not feel informative or coherant. The one part of the book that disturbed me so bad was an adult man and a little boy in what looks like a tub and the illustrator actually put a small penis on the little boy-it is talking about how farts make bubbles in this scene. The idea of this book had the potential of being funny and informative, as it is written now with it's crude drawings and less than fantastic story line, I do not recommend this book to anyone and it is the only book (children/adult or otherwise) that I have read that should be completely destroyed so no one else has to be subjected to its idiocies.
I Really Like The Theory Represented In This Book, BUT.................2006-03-28
No pun intended, BUT I have a problem with the word fart.
As I teacher, we were told that was a word not to be used. I said Bort............. The book explains this subject well and when I found it at the bookstore today, everyone around me had a laugh. However, we all agreed that we'd have trouble reading it to our children and as I teacher, I would. I bought it for a gag gift for my older son.
I thought it was cleverly written about a bodily function that happens to the best of us. As a matter of fact, it happened to me in the store today!!!! LOL

My baby loves it!.......2007-09-13
short and sweet, my 9-month-old baby loves this book. she has a couple of favorite pages, but we often look at this book. we also have That's Not My Train, which she also enjoys. I think we need to get more! a really great book!
a FAVORITE first book!.......2007-05-22
We started reading this book to our daughter when she was just a few months old and it is definately a favorite first book! The words are simple, repetative (but in a cute way not an annoying way:) and there is a new texture to touch on every page. It's so interactive. This is one of the few that our daughter loved to sit all the way through and it's small enough to go everywhere with us (and now that she can walk, she really can carry it with her everywhere:).
Happy with this book.......2007-04-11
These books are really cute. My son (8 mos.) likes to feel the different textures, and my daughter (3 1/2) likes to find the mouse on each page. We have the dinosaur one also.
A FAVORITE!!.......2007-03-11
This is my daughter's FAVORITE book. She's nine months and we've been reading it regularly fo the past couple of months. She loves the basic repetition of 'that's not my puppy..' and especially loves the '..ears are too shaggy.'page. She'll reach for the feely parts of the book :)
It's to the point now where if she's fussy or bored we can recite a line from the book (without having the book, just from memory)and she instantly is destracted, looks up at us and smiles!
I'm super pumped to learn there's other books in the 'series'!! Wish I'd had known sooner :)
Great book.......2007-03-08
This is such a cute book my daughter loves it. She has started to read it to us now and loves the fuzzy pages.

Customer Reviews:
I had to comment on the review by Publishers weekly.......2007-08-25
After reading the Publishers Weekly review I had to comment. This book is sweet and the pictures are lovely. The poems express the love that a parent has with their child so perfectly!
The cynical Publishers Weekly reviewer doesn't seem to appreciate the loving bong between parent and child. I could not help think that person is a fool, and/or has never been a parent themselves. As for me and my household, we enjoy sweet, happy and fun, in our books and most importantly our lives.
I wish Amazon would dump Publisher Weekly reviewers.
Ageless, timeless regarding love between parent and child.......2007-07-18
I discovered this book quite by accident. While waiting for an appointment - all the magazines were taken, however, the illustrated cover caught my attention. The words described the timeless love between a parent and child, and the illustrations almost touchable. Regardless of age, my daughter will always be "my I love you." It's a gift as she leaves for her second year of college to confirm our bond and remind her of the love we share, wherever we may be. The gentle language and soft illustrations express far more than the surface simplicity.
Sweet story.......2007-06-11
This is a sweet story to read to your kids. The pictures are lovely as well. My daughter loves it.
Love this book!.......2007-03-29
My 4 month-old baby and I love reading this book every night before he goes to bed.
beautifully written & illustrated book.......2007-03-18
Bought this book after borrowing it from the library, and bought several additional copies to give as gifts, I think it would make a wonderful new-baby gift, it is such a sweetly written story. I have a two-year old who is just getting into longer stories but still loves the sing-song rhyme style best. This is a wonderful story for her and we love the adorable illustrations, the little animals playing and hiding in every picture with the bears. Had never heard of this book before, what a great find!
Book Description
According to reports, it costs upwards of $190,000 just to get a child to the point that college is a possibility. But none of these studies takes into account the hidden fees of parenthood: the doubling of caffeine expenses to combat sleep deprivation, new membership dues for exciting clubs such as Weight Watchers, and escalating photo-processing bills.
While other parents resign themselves to covering these necessities without a word of acknowledgment, Betsy Howie decided to keep a running account of her daughter's first year of debt: her hilarious memoir, Callie's Tally. "I want my daughter to know how much life costs and what things are worth," she writes. "I want her to know what she's worth."
"I would also like to get some money back."
Describing how having a child turned her bank account (and her life) upside down, Howie debates such topics as whether babies should pay for post-partum candy binges, in-utero rent, and travel expenses incurred while being shown off to in-laws. Part Bridget Jones's Diary (after Bridget snags the boy) and part Operating Instructions (for the fiscally obsessed), this witty chronicle offers a receipt-by-receipt answer to the question: exactly how much does a baby cost?
Customer Reviews:
Laugh Out Loud Funny.......2005-04-01
I loved this book. I laughed so much and insisted on reading passages to my mom and/or husband throughout the book. As a first time mom of a baby girl, it was so funny to hear her take on the first year.
It's very much in the same comic vein as the "girlfriend's guides" books. Raising a child is serious business, but you need to have a sense of humor!
I sympathize with her desire a) to take back some control over the tumultuous event of having a child and b) reclaim and reintegrate your "old" life into this new one. I loved reading the financial "categories" for her expenses.
I highly recommend the book and will add it to my list of baby shower gift books!
Humerous Look at Finacial Part in Having a Child.......2004-04-22
I saw this book at a library display and decided to read it. What a refreshing and unique way of looking at having a baby, especially a daughter. I was able to relate to so many of the stories and laugh at the creativity of the author. Wonderful book.
Great book for a soon-to-be first time mom!.......2004-01-16
Come on Jessica from Michigan, lighten up! You didn't "get" this book at all, did you even read it? She's not actually charging her daughter anything, just trying to figure out what it really costs financially, and even more so the huge life changes involved in having a child. And her eventual point is that we ALL owe each other... in ways that you can't ever really count, and it doesn't matter because you can't count what you get in return either. I certainly owe my mother more than I could ever pay her, for the financial, physical, and emotional sacrifices she's made. I expect that it will be the same way when I have a daughter... in fact, my having a daughter is one way of trying to repay my mother. That's just how it goes. This book made me think, more than anything else I've read, about what my mother's done for me, and the changes that I'll go through when my baby is born. I laughed, I cried, and I have a whole new appreciation for my mom, and for what I'm getting ready to do. I plan to buy it for the next friend who gets pregnant!
This book left me bitter towards the woman who wrote it........2003-09-15
First of all, this woman has "unprotected sex for several weeks" and now she has the nerve to bill her first born for all the expenses. If she made the choice to to put herself in that situation then she should have been responsible for the outcome. Her daughter Callie was in no way indebted to her mother for her mother's actions. This book was dreadful and I can't imagine any mother indebting her own unborn child.
Take responsibility for your own actions, your child owes you nothing.
So I guess Callie will be billing her mother for all Callie's psychologist appointments when she is older.
The Perfect Book for a first time mom!!.......2003-07-07
Loved it. I wish I had it when my daughter was born. Betsy writes about so many of the ups and downs of the first year. I will be purchasing it for all girlfriends when their first children are born!

I guess I waited to long to get these books. My son who just turned four found this one rather easy but he enjoyed it very much. He finished over half of it in one day. He kept asking for more! He is doing the cutting book now and is doing well at it. He really likes all the pictures. The cutting and pasting book is a lot of fun as well. The only thing I would like is if they made these books "wipeable" so I don't have to toss them after they are used. I'm thinking of putting laminating sheets over them and using washable markers.

This book has a very fun way to practice cutting, my daughter just love it because there are some projects that she can do by herself and then she decors her room with them. Very good book.

I have a preschooler with fine motor delays and he HATES to do anything which requires use of his hands. I was told by his teachers that this will lead to issues in school when he is expected to write and participate in art projects. If he can't write, it will affect his academic future.
Therapy provided only so much help, as he was frustrated with the tasks. But then I learned about Kumon's excellent reputation for learning through their local tutoring center - I purchased all of the workbooks.
My child just LOVED this book, and he dislikes anything to do with writing. He loved the book simply because of the cute pictures. He asked what they meant, what was he supposed to do, and why? I would say that we were going to draw lines to "help the bunny get to the other side" etc. I'd make up little stories about each character and pretty soon, he was doing the tasks without any hesitation at all!
I kept it to 3 pages a day or less. At first one might wonder, so what, straight horizontal/vertical lines? But his teachers said a child can't write his letters until he can draw straight and curved lines. Makes sense!
If you want to help your child develop fine motor skills while keeping them happy - this is the book for THEM!

Excellent book for teaching toddlers to trace, the beginnings of learning to write letters. Great serve received the book quickly and in great shape. Excellent book, excellent service.
Great for pre-writing!.......2007-01-10
I bought this workbook for my 4-year old boy with special needs. Now, we practice tracing with his index finger. Next, we'll move up to tracing with a small colored pencil. The only issue that I have with the workbook is that some pages have too many pictures on a page.
