Bartholomew and the Oobleck easily qualifies as a Seuss classic, first told way back in 1949. And its message--the importance of owning up to your mistakes and saying that you're sorry--is as timeless now as it was then.
Bartholomew Cubbins serves thanklessly as pageboy to King Derwin of Didd, a headstrong man who's decided he isn't satisfied with mere sun, fog, rain, and snow. ("Humph! The things that come down from my sky!") He wants something else, something uniquely his own, so he calls in his royal magicians ("Shuffle, duffle, muzzle, muff. Fista, wista, mista-cuff. We are men of groans and howls, mystic men who eat boiled owls"). Happy to oblige, the magicians tell the king they can make "oobleck" fall from the sky, only nobody--not even the magicians--knows just what oobleck is. But after a night of arcane incantations, everyone in the kingdom gets a taste of the stuff (in the case of the Captain of the Guard, literally!), as the green, gluey goo gums up everything in sight.
Of course, Bartholomew tries to help, but it's up to the king to save the day, as he learns to utter not magic words but simple words with magic in them: "I'm sorry." (Ages 4 to 8) --Paul Hughes
Book Description
Illus. in color by the author. An ooey-gooey, green oobleck was not exactly what the king had in mind when he ordered something extra-special from his royal magicians.

OOBLECK.......2007-09-02
An excellent item and although the cost to get it here quickly was expensive, it was worth it. Thank you
Always loved the book........2007-05-10
I had loved the book as a child myself. So I bought it for my neice. We read it together and she loves it as well. I haven't met a child (or adult) that doesn't like Dr. Seuss!
A classic for any age.......2007-01-12
This was a gift for my niece. The adults in the room enjoyed it as much as she did.
Seuss is classic.......2007-01-05
I bought this book because it brought back such good memories of my child's childhood and my own as well. I look forward to sharing it with my grandchildren someday. This is a great book to read!
everyone should have oobleck!.......2006-12-13

Great Fun!.......2007-07-12
This book combines my son's favorite things: ants and trains. It was also a wonderful book for me to read out loud to him. It's my favorite children's book so far. And he loves it!!
Utterly charming.......2007-06-28
Our four-year old loves this book (as do I). The pace is quick, the pictures lively, and the rhymes quirky and intelligent. You will enjoy reading this together.
Great Read Aloud.......2007-05-25
This is one of my faves for preschool storytime reading.
The rhymes are natural, the plot is gripping and the pictures are large and humorous.
If you read to groups of preschoolers - or are doing a unit on insects at your primary school - don't miss this one.
Fun funny funky book that has a good message.......2007-04-30
We found this book in a bookstore and bought it for the train theme (our son loves trains), but keep going back because it's funny, fun to read, has tongue twisters, and is all about saving this ant from a train on the track - so it has a good message (helping those weaker than us, not hurting an ant) to boot. It's not preachy though, the message is just a perk to a fun book that has a lot to talk about with a child. But mostly it's just more "fun" and savvy than a lot of kids' books!
I Saw An Ant on the Railroad Track.......2007-04-03
THis book has become one of his favorites. The pictures and story are great for 3 yr olds.
Customer Reviews:
Not as good as the first..........2007-07-22
I got this book because we love, love, love "I Saw An Ant on the Railroad Track." But this one falls a little short. My 3 year old can't follow it as well. Still a cute book but maybe for older kids.
I Saw an Ant in a Parking Lot.......2007-07-09
Another great book for my 3 yr old grandson. This also has become one of his favorite stories.
Good, but not AS Good.......2007-06-27
As the sequel to "I Saw an Ant on the Railroad Track" this book is a tad disappointing. While the illustrations are as beautiful, entertaining, and interesting, the poetry is a bit more forced than in the first book (which was excellent, by the way). Overall, it's a good read for someone who liked the first one and wants something similar, but be prepared to find it a bit less intriguing than the first. After this one, I would still look to buy a third in this series, but I would read it in the bookstore first to be sure.
Fun to read.......2007-05-14
Just as cute, clever and brilliantly illustrated as "I Saw an Ant on a Railroad Track". My toddler loves these books and I have fun with the rhymes while reading to him.

The king and queen are at their wit's end -- there's not a potty in the land that pleases the princess. In their comical look at toilet training, Wendy Cheyette Lewison and Rick Brown turn an all-too-familiar dilemma into a royal romp.
Customer Reviews:
It works?.......2007-05-10
I thought the book rather silly but my granddaughter thought otherwise. She desparately wanted to go to pre-school but she had a real issue with the potty training and that was a prerequisite. She felt like a failure at 32 months old. We read this book to her and she seemed incredulous. She did ask to have the book read to her repeatedly. The same week she decided to give the idea a whirl and I do believe we have some success. She would have given the book 5 stars.
cute.......2007-03-26
my daughter loves this book. it shows options for types of potties, and my daughter just got what she got - so that's the only problem. otherwise, she loves it and i love it.
My daughter loves it!.......2007-02-03
We used this book in our daughter's princess themed potty party. She loved it and still is enjoying reading it. I found it very helpful in the potty training process.
Great little book.......2006-08-01
My granddaughter really loves this book as she is going through her "Princess" stage. We have to read it three times a day when she's visiting. However, she still hasn't gone "potty". But we're working on it!!!
The Princess and the Potty.......2006-07-28
This book is hilarious if your daughter is like mine. The Princess refuses to do anything unless it is her idea and in her own time. She is just as independent as my little one. It was a fun read on potty training day.

Kids Love Them.......2007-10-03
The Usborne books are beautiful, I have a 3 year old and 14 month twins, they all love the cute drawings and the textures, the short texts are good for their attention span, but if you want you can linger in the page and comment on details. I would definiteley recommend these books to anyone with kids!
That's not my princess.......2007-03-15
This is a book for baby princesses! Has great sturdy pages and extra special touchy feelys and sparkles. There is a red dress, bows, a sash, tiara, fan, and a crown to touch and feel. I am not crazy about the sash idea because it is not something you would commonly hear. Maybe a ribbon or necklace would have been better. I would like it if they came out with a second princess book. That would be fun!

Great book for little girls.......2003-03-28
I have this book for my daughter (she's a real "girly girl"). She loves anything to do with sparkles and princesses, and then to put her picture in a book that sparkles and makes her the princess is awesome. I'm looking to buy a couple more of these for my nieces. Great fun book
