Wild about Harper!!!!.......2007-01-19
What a fabulous book. For anyone who is a fan of this imaginative, committed to animals, wildlife-graphic artist, you will love this. The print quality is wonderful and every painting Charley Harper has ever done is cataloged in brilliant, living color! Lucky me, I own 4 Harpers - but feel like I own them all with this book.
Bequiled by the Wild: The Art of Charley Harper.......2007-01-13
Book was purchased as a gift. Recipient was extremely happywith it.
Great art book.......2006-08-10
Wonderful book showing many of Harper's prints as well as a paragraph about each written by him.
A Delightful Mixture of Art, Science, and Humor.......2001-08-11
Beguiled by the Wild is a complete collection of limited edition prints by wildlife artist Charley Harper that spans three decades of his career. The captions printed in the book are the original versions that were issued with each print. The prints have long been sold out and this book represents the only published collection of his work. A rare self-interview and introduction by Roger Caras are the only additional text. Each page brings to life an example of Charley's unique ability to combine humor, art, and science. Readers will be hard-pressed to flip through the pages of this coffee table book without stopping at almost every page to learn the message inherent with each piece. Charley's unusual style, which he calls "minimal realism", catches the eye and draws a smile. Often a maze of bright colors and geometric shapes dominates the scene making an initial interpretation puzzling. Reading the caption usually provides insight into the biology of selected insects, birds and mammals, which is often whimsical and always factual. "Armadittos", for example, depicts and inverted armadillo mother suckling a line of four pups in a circle of pine needles. The caption describes how armadillos always reproduce with four genetically identical quaruplets of the same sex (and they live in pine forests of the southern states). Similary, "Jesus Bugs" depicts a group of water strider insects with large circles surrounding each of their six feet, which also form circular shadows under the water. Only an entomologist would know that these circles represent depressions on the water surface caused by minute foot hairs that keep the insects from sinking. This artist has attracted a large audience of amateur and professional biologists who should get their hands on a copy of this book before it too goes out of print.
Great Coffee table book for lovers of animals & modern art.......2000-05-02
This is a wonderful coffee table book for anyone who loves animals and modern art. In his unusual style, the artist brings animals to life with geometric precision. The more I look at the art, the more I like it.
Many types of animals are included. There are lots of birds, as well as insects, sea life, dogs, and cats. Forest, farm and African animals are also included. Many of the drawing as well as the anecdotes with them are quite humorous.
Some of my favorites are a raccoon hanging upside down, two whales hugging, a baby harp seal & one of a blue jay bathing. I also especially liked "Love on a limb" featuring two monkeys with their tails entwined.
My all time favorite is called "The Wedding Feast." It features two praying mantis mating. The caption below it is quite funny. There is a nice index in the back of the over 125 plates shown in the book.

Smart, engaging read..........2006-01-20
In 1540, Lady Alexandra Montague is running away to her cousins the McPhersons in Scotland, when she unwittingly saves damsel in distress, Lady Constance Blackmore. Problem is, for safety's sake, Alex is dressed as a man, moustache and all. As thanks, the infatuated young lady takes the reluctant 'Lord' to her father's house, where adventures in mistaken identity ensue. When Lord Brandon, Constance's brother, discovers Alex is a woman, he becomes obsessed with the idea of seducing her. However, he worries she may be a spy sent by the McPhersons. He will stop at nothing in order to discover what her true intentions are, and the best way get the answers he requires is to ignite her lust with his own.
I loved this book! I read the whole thing in one night. The story is just fun, fun, fun! Julia Keaton's characters are smart and charismatic. It is very refreshing to encounter a spunky heroine who knows what she wants and goes after it, and although slightly misguided, isn't a completely irrational ditz. The main male character is devestatingly sexy, in a take-charge, alpha kind of way. The secondary characters just add to the fun.
The are many luscious, erotic scenes, including some not for the faint-hearted. I found they were very well executed, and remained very hot, considering certain pivotal plot elements. This is indeed erotica - keep this in mind if you've only ever read regular romance novels before.
'Beguiled' is a story that doesn't take itself seriously, remains consistent throughout, and where the writing flows in a delightfully straightforward manner. I especially enjoyed the way the dialogues were written, using the parlance of the times, i.e. aye, nay, 'tis, "I must needs be on my way." This could have seemed contrived, but the author manages to make it all feel natural.
I'll be looking for Julia Keaton's 'Lady of Sorrow' and upcoming 'Stranger in my Bed', as well as any of her future novels.

Rating: Contains graphic explicit sex and language; some instances of sexual content which could be offensive to delicate readers; and a sexually aggressive hero.
That's the book's description on the back cover. When you just read this description, this books doesn't seem very unusual. What makes it so is the unusual mixture of humour with a rather dark sensuality (the hero is very dominant in general, and at first he tries to keep up Alexandra's disguise as a boy and takes her like one as a result). So if you're into politically correct romances and nice sex, this is definitely not your book. But if you like your hero a little darker and dominant, this book is very entertaining and erotic. I found it a pleasure to read and look forward to more books by this author.
Unique historical erotica..........2005-08-01
This historical romantic erotica set in Medieval Scotland is different in tone and content than most erotic romances out there. The tone and narrative in this New Concepts Publishing novel is darker, more explicit and graphic than the stuff you'd read in romanticas published by Berkley, Brava, even Ellora's Cave. And that is quite a refreshing change of pace. Beguiled is one scorching novel not for the faint of heart. Lady Alexandra disguises herself as a young man and escapes her castle in Scotland, fleeing from an arranged marriage. She rescues a damsel in distress while en route to her cousins' home. And that is what changes her life. The damsel in question is Lady Constance Blackmore and her four enormous brothers decide to keep Lord Alex imprisoned in their castle, afraid that the boy may be a spy for the McPhersons, which happen to be her cousins. All of the Blackmores are wary of Alex, especially Lord Bronson, who thinks that Alex may be after his sister. When he discovers that Alex is a woman, he is overwhelmed with desire and begins a unique and delectable game of seduction that will scorch the reader. There are some twists throughout the novel.
New Concepts Publishing is an erotic e-publisher, which is why I am not surprised that the book is only 212 pages long. However, I enjoyed this novella (too short to be a novel). The sexual tension between Bronson and Alex is amazing. I couldn't wait for those two to hit the sack. Their initial sexual encounter is quite shocking. As said earlier, the content of this novel is not for the faint of heart. Alex maintained her guise as a male almost throughout the entire book and Bronson seduced her as he would a male despite knowing that Alex is a she. I found the seduction quite different from typical romanticas out there. Bronson is scrumptious -- an alpha male through and through. The author keeps you guessing on whether his feelings for her are loving or sexual ones all the way to the end. And the ending has a pleasant surprise. My only complaints are that the secondary characters are underdeveloped and that the pace of the story changes in an abrupt way. At first, the novel has a leisure pace and the seduction and sexual tension are prolonged in a smolderingly enticing way. Then the story in the last forty or so pages of the book seems rushed. I wish the novel had been longer. All in all, I enjoyed Beguiled very much and this won't be the only NCP book I will read. I recommend it if you're in the bargain for a quick, erotic read.
historical erotica.......2005-06-14
Orphaned Lady Alex is masquerading as a lad to reach her mother's family in Scotland in order to escape an arranged marriage. In her way, she rescues a damsel in distress and is forced to accept her family's hospitality. Enters Bronson, the rescued lady's older brother, mutual instant attraction and so on.
The story presents some humour, especially the attemps of the rescued lady to seduce her hero, 'Lord' Alex. Secondary characters, like Gray and Gabriel are underdeveloped as all other characters. I would have liked to read more about Gray and the incident with Alex's cousin.
Sex scenes are very graphic - forced, anal sex and masturbation. And that's all. You never actually know when the hero and heroine fall in love, they are all the time just dealing with their mutual physical attraction.
4 stars for historical erotica, 2 for historical romance.

Book Description
Ally Grayson never wanted to be a heroine--she dreamed of writing great stories, not living in a fairy tale. But when she's abducted by a charming highwayman right out of a novel, Ally finds herself thoroughly enchanted. No matter that she's betrothed to another--or that she has no intention of binding herself in an arranged marriage anyway.
But when Mark, her burdensome fiancé, is revealed to be none other than the rogue of her dreams, Ally must make a choice: plunge into a world of murder and deceit without a protector, or place her trust in the man who lies to her but makes her heart sing.

Don't understand all the bad reviews..........2007-07-10
Hello,
This is the 1st book I have read by Shannon Drake/Heather Graham. I thought it was an excellent read. I was able to get through it without swearing at the hero or heroine for doing something predictable and sterotypical in romances.
I thought the dialogure was refreshing, the hero not too overbearing, the heroine not TOO stupid and the setting was SUPERB! It is
Victorian England, and there are telephones, electricity (to the the monied few) and anti monarchy sentiments!
I would have to agree the actual relationship between Mark/Ally was not the deepest. When they made love the first time I was rather shocked, but with all the subplot and so on, there was only so much to author could write.
Now as I said at the beginning , this is only my first book of the author- in any genre. I am assuming people who are accustomed to her writing more substantially might be dissapointed, however those who are burned out on stories about 'bon ton' and rides in Hyde Park will find this a GEM!
something's missing.......2007-06-02
What was shannon drake thinking when she wrote this novel? there were so many errors, using a character's name in the wrong place, the wrong form of address for an earl...
However in all it was a really nice novel.. Loved Mark's character and Ally was quite a woman for him..
Nevertheless exected something a lot better from Drake... more along the lines of the Graham family series hopefully..
ick.......2007-02-01
i was looking forward to this book, but i regret the time i spent reading it. i didn't like either of the main characters, and i found the story line old.
to be honest i have read much better books by this author and much much better books by other authors.
my personal opinion is not to waste you time or money on the book.
Not much of a romance.......2007-01-23
Shannon Drake or Heather Graham used to be one of my most favorite romance writers. I skipped her para-normal stuff or gothic thrillers, whatever they are, which I don't like. This book is focused on murder mystery while the love story is very thin, predictable and unexciting. I wish Drake would go back to historical medieval romace, a genre in which she excelled in my opinion, with focus on love relationship.
dull clunky romance, ok murder suspense.......2006-12-30
How could anyone give this book more than a couple of stars? There is barely any contact between the heroine and the hero, who are interesting in their own right, but never together. Their dialogue is abrupt, stilted, and constantly interrupted, which is the general mode of this annoying plot. Though the time and circumstances of this novel are refreshingly unusual (the late Victorian days) and the borrowed sleeping beauty with the 3 fairy godmothers in the forest cottage plot is sort of fun, this whimsical allusion just doesn't mesh well with the Sherlock Holmesque murder plot. The whole plot doesn't gel, the romance never develops, and there are too many marginal characters to keep track of for this reader to bother with. Disappointing read. Try Heather Graham's other books.

Okay Read.......2007-03-20
I must say I was a little disappointed in the first and the last story in this book. Sandra Kitt's tale 'Serenade' was interesting, but I found it left a lot of things up in the air. And Eboni Snoe's tale 'Beguiled' was good, but too wordy at times and took to long to get to the good parts. Now, 'Fovever Yours', by Francis Ray definitely made the book worth reading. I am a huge Francis Ray fan and all I can say is she did it again! I love the romance between Tory and Kane. I love the way the families and friends are involved with the couple story.
Thanks!!.......2005-07-08
Loved having all three books together. Yes they were once available as individual
books. That is no reason to give this book a bad review. That being said these are great books and as always I loved the Sandra Kitt book the best. These are great romance/mystery writers at their best. Thanks again.
Previously released novels...repackaged........2005-03-17
After receiving this anthology, I realized that I'd read each of these books almost 10 years ago as single novels. Some of the first to debut from then Pinnacle's line of Arabesque novels. The sad part is that the way Af-Am literature (and my own self for that matter) has developed, I wasn't nearly as enthralled by these stories as I was 10 years before.
Serenade, originally a 1994 release by Sandra Kitt, tells the story of Alexandra and Parker. Lovers more than 10 years before the current story, Alexandra was crushed when Parker left without warning or explanation. Now Parker is an accomplished musician and Alexandra a struggling singer. Passion reignites between the two. Although Alexandra's younger sister, a spoiled brat at the least, presents a formidable obstacle for these two to resume their relationship where it was abort 10 years ago, the story tells of their path back to each other. Sandra Kitt is a wonderful writer and it shows in this story, despite the annoyance of the baby sister's interference to the main storyline.
I first read "Forever Yours" when it was released in 1994. One of the first in the line of Arabesque novels (then published by Pinnacle). The story of Kane and Victoria was intriguing. Victoria, a woman who has been scorned many times, refuses to be hurt by love again. After her grandmother insists that she marry or lose her beloved business due to Victoria's inability to repay a well-timed loan from her grandmother, Victoria takes matters into her own hands and looks for a husband-for-hire. Kane, a strong stubborn brother, agrees to consider marriage to Victoria, but he doesn't want to play by her rules. The tension that ensues carries this somewhat less than realistic story nicely. You'll enjoy watching the two strong-willed lead characters struggle for power as they both try to get want they want from the relationship.
"Beguiled" also originally released in 1994 was not a favorite of mine as a single book and was the weakest of the anthology her. It tells the story of Raquel who loses her job and decides to go dancing at a Miami nightclub ?!? I guess she wants to dance her troubles away. Instead she ends up being swept into a totally unrealistic adventure that drifts from the Caribbean to Central America. This story includes Snoe's trademark foray into otherworldly, magical scenarios. All in all just not my cup of tea...

One of the most romantic book I've ever read........2007-03-14
I wish that I could elaborate on how excellent this book is. But unfortunately, all of the reviews that I have read for this book have said it all. This book will melt your heart and keep you sighing for days and wishing that you could find a love just like the characters in this book. Not since reading Whitney, My Love and Once and Always by Judith McNaught, have I fallen in love with the characters of the books.
There are books that you read and say what a good book and you put it down knowing that you read a good book. But this book makes you remember all the wonderful moments that you read. It stays in your mind and keeps you sighing for true love.
You're a FOOL if you pass this one up!*****10 stars*****.......2006-10-29
This book is a must read for historical/regency fans. I have never been so deeply moved by reading a novel -EVER. Its rare in a novel to find such thorough character development paired with an intricately detailed story line which moves along in a fast pace. I cannot tell you how many books I've read where I care about the H/H, but not the secondary characters and muddle through those passages or the other way around. There are four (Yes 4!) romances in this book including the H/H and you will care for each one. Each could have easily had their own novel, they are that good and Ms. Paul didn't skimp in their writing in the least.
There is very little in the way of love scenes in the book and I have to admit at first I was skeptical ( I'm really big on steamy love scenes!), but you'll find out as I did that you won't miss it in the least. The 'love' scenes are of a different sort, more of spoken love and action or inaction. Your heart will ache for several characters more than once and you'll despair when you realize that all maybe lost.
This is truly a magical book full of lies, blackmail, redemption, regret and most of all love. If you read this book and don't leave with a warm feeling in your heart, sorry to say it but your a cold fish and there is no hope for you!
Fabulous.......2002-06-26
Who am I to give this less than a 5* review. This was an absolutely wonderful book with such a different heroine at the center of romance. Radiantly beautiful but flawed, due to the act of a demented servant that tried to kill her when she was a child.
Lillian wanted a London season, and her brother Earl of Cardemore would do anything in his power to provide her that season in London, even if it meant blackmailing the handsomest bachelor in London. The Earl of Cardemore wanted Lily to be happy, and would do whatever he needed to make that happen. Her brother could make the gallant earl of Graydon, dance attendance on his sister, and he could even engineer the means to have them wed. What he couldn't prevent would be the devasted heartbreak if the truth be known.
This was a wonderful story of love against all odds. It showed that love has no boundaries and handicaps be dammed against the snobbish and uneducated feelings at the turn of the 18th century.
Definitely a superb book. I heartily recommend it!
Wonderful story of love........2000-08-07
An injury during her childhood stripped Lady Lillian Walford's vocal cords until the only sounds she could make were harsh and painful. Her reclusive, loving brother blackmails Anthony Harbreas, Earl of Graydon, into escorting Lily about London during her Season. Although nearly engaged to another woman, Graydon falls in love with Lily and uses a kidnapping setup organized by her brother to convince her to marry him. In an effort to shield Lily from malicious gossip, Graydon doesn't bring her back with him to London after the Christmas holiday, convincing Lily that he is ashamed of her. Secondary romances between Lily's brother and her aunt, forbidden by British law, and a fiery courtship between Lily's cousin and Graydon's best friend are threaded throughout the book.
Magnificent story with well-developed characters and views on how mutes and deaf-mutes were treated by Society. Highly recommended to historical and regency romance fans, particularly those who like a little depth to their romances.
Wonderful! Wonderful!.......1999-03-26
I couldn't put this one down. This was a very different from most romance novels because the characters weren't perfect.I liked that because it shows that anybody can have true love.Don't pass this one up!!
Customer Reviews:
the best of the clan..........2005-01-20
of the Clan MacKenzie books by Arnette Lamb, I personally relate and enjoy this one best. Agnes is a wonderfully unconventional historical heroine. Brave, intelligent and beautiful-she's a bodyguard-and Miss Lamb's skillful, fun writing carries that, at first implausible, lady's occupation off. Her hero is equally a bold character as he is a studious, intelligent inventor of textiles. A truly enjoyable read. 5 stars!
Delightful adventure!.......2000-08-20
Agnes Mackenzie, haunted by a mistake that led to the disappearance of her baby sister, Virginia, had dedicated herself to protecting the innocents of the world and searching for Virginia. When someone shoots an arrow at the widowed doctor and inventor Edward Napier, Earl of Cathcart, Agnes throws herself in its path. She forces Cathcart to take her with him to his home in the lower Highlands to find the assassin and protect the Earl's children.
A wonderfully descriptive tale of love, loss and regret over past mistakes. Agnes is a strong, capable woman who believes love must wait until her quest is completed.
Love this story........1999-06-02
I loved how Ms. Lamb has expanded on the four sisters in her books. This one is especially good because Angnes is the type of women we would all like to be in one way or another. The love story between her and the doctor is funny, frustrating, infuriating and wonderful and makes you want to keep reading. I have all her books and can't wait for the next. If you want romance from the heart, here it is.
A wonderful, easy to read, and very entertaining book!.......1998-08-30
I haved read all the other books about the McKenzies and while I enjoyed all of them, "Beguiled" is my favorite. Agnes is a wonderful character. Even though she can hold her own against any man and has traveled the world over looking for her younger sister, she is still delightfully naive and refreshing. I highly recommend this book! You won't be able to put it down.
one of her best, keeps you guessing on how it will work out.......1996-09-01
I have been a fan of Ms. Lamb since I first read Border Lord. This one was great, and keep you guessing on how the couple will make a happy ending occur. The character of Agnes has all the strength of a modern lady, but the dialouge keeps one in a late 1700s mind set. I hate waiting for the next one in the series.

I recently received a review copy of this book, although a Christian, I'm not what you would call an every Sunday Church goin kina guy. Armed with basic knowledge I cracked open the book, finding to my surprise no preface but a rather long introduction. Not that the intro was bad, I simply prefer a short preface outlining its goal.
I was pleased at the first chapter, written in a simple school text book style, as that of a teacher's addition. Each verse was complemented with and explanation sometimes in great length others times not much at all, but coming together well for the altogether comprehension of the subject. The book over all is written in this educational manner and nicely done. However there are times when it seems to flow off the given subject into another area, but to my chagrin, would make its way back, having offered up an entirely more profound understanding of what the scriptures were saying then it would have if having simply stayed its course (just when you think your lost, it pulls you right back in.)
The book flows smoothly form one subject to the next, I like that. The language used is simple; no overwhelming big words you need to break out the dictionary for. Then again there is one of two complaint I have, and that's with repetitiveness. The book is very repetitive even within the explanations themselves and I find it rather annoying and unnecessary. But I have to confess, that with younger persons or even adults it's often a necessary evil in teaching, to bring home a point or as said, beat it into their heads. Second complaint is poor editing, I also tend to believe a great deal more information was cut in the process, and it a shame that a book of this quality that obviously contains vast knowledge in years of study has been treated so lightly.
As I told you earlier, I have basic bible knowledge, so some of the things I read in this book were like a slap in the face, I never heard of such interpretations before, ever.
At first I thought "what a nut case" but in reading on, it all came together making perfect sense, and what I had previously believed actually made no sense according to the bible scriptures themselves. I must confess I was a rapture believer prior to absorbing this book, but now I'm free of this deception thanks to Mr. Crux. Not only am I free of the lie, but all those years I was not attending church, I feel I made up for in this one book. From this single book "Beguiled by rapture deception" I have gained more knowledge and understanding of bible then the majority of my friends who have attended churches on a regular basis their entire lives. Few books offer such profound insight as this one. I have been around a long time and know a best seller when I read it, and this has best seller potential written all through it. I know the bias's that exist in the industry between the self and traditional publishing market, and it's to bad because every so often a self published book arises that demands the same recognition and attention of those quality traditional published materials and beguiled by rapture deception certainly is one of them.
I'll put my reputation on the line and say "if you stock this book I guarantee it will sell."
No store wants deadwood sitting on their shelves, space is valuable and something that isn't selling is costing money. This book however I guarantee if presented in view of patrons along with the other new releases will fly off the shelves before many others do. I would also encourage everyone who reads it to support it on the internet thru advertising in homepages, websites, links etc.
The cover carries the title of the Christian theme...as the serpent beguiled eve...the tile reflects the books content as does the picture...the font is elegant being easy to read...containing the crimson word "Rapture" in grabbing attention as a notable sine of warning. The cover while simple does the job in supplying all the necessary elements in proper cover design. While the cover picture could have been more hi-tech and possibly questionable or more subdued as in a Garden of Eden theme, I don't feel it could have been any better in describing the books intent and subject.
I recommend this book to everyone because the value of the content out weighs everything else. I myself plan on giving copies to others as my personal witness, so I too can gain those works Mr. Crux pointed out, that I may be clothed in works not being found naked and ashamed having none when the Lord returns, as everyone one should strive to do the same. Give a copy as your personal witness.
This has been my spin what's yours?

This is the sequel to Devoted, Alice Borchardt's historical novel set in medieval France. In this installment, Elin is left to defend a the city of Chantilon which is besieged by Vikings while her common-law husband Owen (A bishop), seeks help from his family. Can Owen save his city or is it doomed to fall into the hands of Haakon and his band of evil raiders?
I really enjoyed the audio narration of Beguiled. Borchardt really made early France come alive in this surprising narration of murder/mystery/and romantic suspense. In particular, I like how she handles such a large cast of characters, and still manages to keep things interesting. There are precisely three main story plots going on in this book. Owen's Quest. Haakon and Elspeth (the pseudo-villains), and Elin and her group. Somehow, Borchardt manages to keep all three stories interesting (although I admit I was less interested in Owen's issues than in the other two). I also thought Borchardt did an excellent job of portraying the redemption of a few of the most evil characters (such as the berserker).
My only peeve? I felt that Owen, was a little boring. Thank god for his Saxon sidekick or I might've fast-forwarded his scenes. He was a good character... But a trifle wooden. I highly recommend the audio version which was quite well narrated. Well worth the price as there are MANY hours of listening.
A brilliant novel.......2001-08-23
This sequel to "Devoted" is every bit as wonderful. The characters seem to come alive, and what characters they are too! This novel has almost everything. Action (great battle scenes), love (very tasteful sex scenes), and humour in good doses. I found myself laughing out loud more than once. And there is also magic and fantasy, although not enough to make it a fantasy novel. Just enough to make those times seem very magical and mystical. There is also the clash of religion, pagan and Christian, but what shows through in the end is that good will always prevail over evil, and through love and kindness, evil can be turned into good. This is a wonderfully engrossing book....recommended.
Breath taking.......2000-07-20
I simply loved this book. The secondary characters make this book great. The only flaw is I wish there could have been more of these characters. And much more of Rosamund. Try to find the book anyway you can.
A book of suspense, conflict, victory,and love........1999-03-31
I just loved this book,it so romantic how owen and elin are so much in love, that in the book owen refused to take Gynneth when she lied almost naked on her bed,and told Elutides that he could not take her because he had a wife, and that she pleases him well. Also how owen says to himself of how much he misses, and loves elin. I turly hope that you countiue this tale of the two lovers, because I just think this book is so great! I read it over and over agin,I couldnt put it down. You turly are a great storyteller.
WHAT WOMEN. MEN, SEX, AND PASSION WAS ALL ABOUT........1999-01-24
I WAS CAPTURED AND OVERWHELMED BY THIS STORY OF EVIL,LOVE,HATE AND PURE HONESTY OF ROMANCE. I WISH I LIVED IN A TIME SO PROFOUND AND TRUE. I'M WAITING FOR THE SERIES TO CONTINUE.

This was my first time reading this author. I was so pleased that I did not want the story to end. There twist, that were not expected. She put spice in the book and Nate was a dream.

Not for me..........2005-03-17
"Beguiled" tells the story of Raquel who loses her job and decides to go dancing at a Miami nightclub ?!? I guess she wants to dance her troubles away. Instead she ends up being swept into a totally unrealistic adventure that drifts from the Caribbean to Central America. This story includes Snoe's trademark foray into otherworldly, magical scenarios. All in all just not my cup of tea...
Loved it!!.......1999-03-02
I liked this book. The fact that the action does not center around a major industrial city makes you know the characters more intimately. The characters were well written. They are not stick figures but real human beings with flaws. I recommend this book, not only for the plot but for the beautiful and colorful descriptions of the people and places.
Not bad, if you can get past the silly stuff........1998-07-06
I gotta tell you, if I'd lost my job and was wondering what I'd do to pay the bills... well, dancing is not where I'd go.
Actually, once you get past that (and it takes a while) the fantasy of the handsome, protective man was not at all bad. Snoe does draw an exotic world for us. But, I have to complain that whenever her plot grows thin, she results to magic. Deus ex machina? Give us a break!
Enchanting!.......1998-04-06
I was so entranced by 'Beguiled' that I decided that I just had to share it with everyone else. Unfortunately, the first person I lent it to loved it more than I did... she kept it!
'Beguiled' stands out within its genre because of its exotic location, its wonderfully drawn characters, (especially its secondary characters), its refreshing plot and its originality. As a West Indian, I can relate to the cultural and geographical details, which are superb, and its melding of the spiritual and the sensuous was breathtaking. It's well worth buying!

Review on PRIVATE EYE.......2006-02-21
This book was okay but it didn't sizzle by any stretch of the imagination. While the plot was fine, the telling of it was only moderately good. Josh was a cool guy, however.
Beguiled by Lori Foster!!.......2001-11-17
Dane Carter is pretending to be his brother Derek while he searches for Derek's killer. He thinks he's got a hot lead when Angel Morris walks into his--Derek's--office. The more he learns of her relationship with his brother--that Derek had betrayed her trust, had her fired from her job, fathered her child, then left her--the more it looks like Angel could be Derek's killer. Yet, the more he learns of Angel, the more he knows it isn't her. When it turns out someone is trying to kill Angel, Dane is left with finding the real killer and protecting the woman he loves.
Lori Foster's ability to pull readers into the story and not let go until the very last page is what makes her such an enduring favorite!
Puzzling........2001-07-26
First, let me say this was a good book. I love a hero who is burned out and a heroine who looks for the good in people. But...I found myself constantly looking at the author's name to verify that it said Jayne Ann Krentz on the cover. There was none of her signature humor or crackling sexual tension. As it has a 1999 copyright date, I would expect her usual style. Could this be a much older book that wasn't published until 1999? If you're a JAK fan, you might be disappointed. If you like sweet romance with a little sex and interesting minor characters, this is the book for you.
A Super Twofer..........2001-05-24
If you like your romance steamy, your men hot and your women feisty then these two stories are a must-have for your collection. Jayne Ann Krentz gives us a vintage tale of love, lust and confusion between detective Josh January and innkeeper Maggie Gladstone. This is wonderful Krentz stuff, the affair is believable, the characters charming and the story holds us to the last kiss! Lori Foster gives us a harder-edged tale of brotherly love taken to a new dimension when Dane Carter replaces identical (and dead) twin Derek at the helm of their company and in the bed of former girlfriend Angel Morris. A tale that could have become sloppy and unpleasant remains taut and enthralling, the steamy sensuality will melt your heart and leave you cheering for the eventually triumphant couple. Cetainly the plots are predictable, and there is little mystery in whodunnit, but do we buy romances for mystery? You'll find plenty of what we do buy romances for between the covers of this book!!!
couldn't put it down.......2000-04-13
This was my first Lori Foster book. I loved every minute of it. After reading it I went out and bought four other Lori Foster books. I like authors who don't portray the hero as a wimpy romantic. Her male characters are more masculine, while still being romantic. I happen to have three older brothers, me being the only girl in the family, so I can also say I like her female characters better, because they are not all wishy washy. I also love finding authors who are as good with the secondary characters as the main characters, and she definitely fills that bill. Keep Writting Lori!
