the beginning of the twilight saga.......2007-10-11
i am a 14 year old girl and i ordered all 3 of the twilght books from amazon because i'd heard they were awesome and i knew i'd like them. twilght starts off great and i really felt like i could relate to bella. there were a couple times when she'd say or think something and it sounded exactly like what i would have said or thought. (i'm not going to repeat whole story because i know other people already have.) bella meets edward, who seems like this perfect guy, but there's something strange about him. after he saves her life a couple times she discovers he's a vampire. the story continues with bella and edward falling, a little bit annoyingly, in love. besides being a vampire, there's something a little weird about edward. he's a bit too perfect. (and he wears tight turtlenecks. i'd had a feeling that even though edward was great and really gorgeous, he wasn't the guy for me. when i read the part about turtlenecks i was sure. he's too male model-y.) he cares so much about bella that their relatonship seems a little unhealthy. if you feel, as i did, that talking about bella's scent is a little creepy, then brace yourself. Nevertheless, Twilight is a very sweet love story (there's a few moments where you'll just want to scream "awww!") with plenty of interesting characters, besides edward and bella. don't forget about jacob black!!! he became my favorite person in new moon and eclipse. there's also a some action towards the end of the book, but keep in mind that this is very much a love story. Twilght is an awesome book and i recommend it to any teenage girl.
Twilight, Book 1.......2007-10-10
I loved this book!! I couldn't put it down and read the whole thing in one day. It made me go buy the next two in the series the very next day. I enjoyed all three, but this one was the best. Also, may i say that i am no young adult so it was perfectly appropriate for me. I would think that it would be suitable for older teens more than younger. Edward and Bella are in an extremely obsessively romantic and not particularly healthy codependent relationship. Maybe not what you want your 13 year old to emulate.

O.K. so I am not a Young Adult anymore but I fell in love with this book and, of course, Edward. I sacrificed much needed sleep to stay up until 5 in the morning to finish this book. I can't remember the last time I felt that way about a book.
I have read all the books in the series and this book is the one to read. It is far superior to the other 2. It is refreshingly clean and original. I was perfectly comfortable having my 16 yr. old daughter read it. I can not say as much for Eclipse.

Twilight is one of the greatest love stories ever! Edward and Bella are going to be known like Romeo and Juliette, Rhett and Scarlett, and Cinderella and Prince Charming. You won't be able to wait for the other books in the series. Don't just buy the Twilight. You're going to want New Moon and Eclipse, also.

Im a big Zelda fan, and with the Wii I now own all the console releases of Zelda. This book is a must have. Its very well built and a collectors item for sure. Minor complaint, the gold leaf pages were stuck together and take some time to break apart so that the book can be thumbed through freely.
A True Collector's Item.......2007-08-24
If you love Zelda and want to play Twilight Princess on the Wii, this is a MUST HAVE. The game is so extensive that a strategy guide is really called for to get every last drop of fantastic game play. This is the hardcover Collector's Edition with beautiful gold lettering on the cover and even the page edges are gold.
For the money, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this book and I will add it to my library when I am through with the game.

This is much better for novice gamers common to the Wii system. Allows you to walk through each part of the game step by step. We read it after we have finished up a section to see what we missed. Zelda is our first video game and the Wii makes it easy enough to play without a guide the guide just helps you see what you missed.

If you want a guide that will get you from point A to point B that you'll use throughout the entire game, then this is the guide to get. If you want a guide just to consult when you get stuck, don't get this one. Yes, there's a tiny index in the back, but it only references the guide's own titles. This is more helpful for dungeons than the overworld. The real shame is the lack of any complete lists - there is nowhere, for instance, to look up all of the Golden Bugs and their locations. You have to flip through the guide until you find what you're looking for. The Heart Piece list, also, doesn't give page numbers; you're only given "Faron Province" and you have to flip through that section yourself. Sometimes that's okay, but overall it's very disappointing.

I loved this guide bcause it has all the secrets that the nintendo guide doesn't have! like for example the hearts! This guide is very organized I Liked it!
I have used the nintendo guides before and they're very hard to follow and they don't reveal the most important secrets! I don't like that!
Nephew needs help.......2007-09-11
I got this book for my nephew (he's 14) who was struggling with a couple of things with the game. He says the book helped, about the same time that he finally figured it out. I asked him if it was a good purchase and he said it has given him more ideas and helps along the way. Overall it was worth it for him.

My 11 year old son bought this along with the game. He loves this guide, it is more detailed than the guide his cousin has, it has colorful pictures and helpful hints.

More of a pain than anything else.......2007-07-26
I got this guide, hoping it had a list of the locations of the Heart Pieces, Golden Bugs, Poes, etc. But, this guide has none of that. All the book is is a 400+ page walkthrough. There are so many words on each page and it has the smallest font size I've ever seen in a strategy guide. I don't have any near vision problems, but I found it very difficult to read. Each page also has 5-8 photos, but they're way too small. I just feel that this guide has way too much information going on in the walkthrough. It seems like it would take longer to read the section from the guide than to actually play the section in the game. You're probably better off using the pdf walkthrough from Gamespot and the user submitted guides from [...]. I've found it to be way more useful and less expensive!
Great Guide.......2007-07-03
Everything you need to know about the cube version of the Legend of Zelda is here. There are even some personal and funny experiences from the authors regarding specific events in the game, where they tell you where they went wrong and preventing you from making the same mistakes, making your gaming experience even more delightful.
The reason my review did not make the five star rank is because the missing appendix section for the heart pieces, the bottles, etc etc. So, if you are looking for a specific item (i.e. a poe or a heart piece) you have to go almost through the entire walkthrough just to find out you have collected everything from that area.
Despite that little downside, it is a nicely crafted guide.

Twilight : Why It Is Thrilling...Yet Annoying.......2007-07-03
Twilight was a good addition to the Warriors series. The action is pulsing, the tension is building, the mystery is pumping...what could go wrong? Oh, not too much...just a few little things that shouldn't be over looked.
The Clans are (!SPOILERS!) settling into their new lake home, but Leafpool's messages about 'Blood will spill blood and the lake will run red' are becoming very numerous...pretty annoying for her, I would imagine. But there are a number of things that I find annoying. One of my biggest pet peeves involves Leafpool as well. How could she possibly love Crowfeather? Why is Crowfeather such a darn playa? Why is Feathertail not mad? I think that the entire Crowfeather *hearts* Leafpool thing is very out of place in this book. I don't understand what they see in each other. I used to like Leafpool until she starts ignoring Cinderpelt and her Clan and eventually runs away with Crowfeather. Good ridiance...but NOOOO...she has to come back at the last minute and appear the hero. Crowfeather has always been clueless, but you just hate him after he loves Leafpool when his mate died only about a moon before!
What also annoys me is that Brambleclaw is so dumb! He can't see that his brother and his father (whom he already knows is evil and says that he hates ol' Tigerstar) are using him to gain control of the forest. He used to be one of my favorite characters, yet he is now very very dumb. He continues to unceremoniously push Squirrelflight away in his monstrosity that he calls his life.
Now for the good! The ending scene with the badgers was very well written and quite nerve racking and sad, like when Sootfur died such a proud death full of dedication to his Clan. The birth of Honeykit, Cinderkit, Poppykit and Molekit was a pleasant surprise, even though I hated the fact that Cinderpelt died. At least Cinderkit is the reincarnated form of her! As always, the battle sequences were top-notch and very well planned and thought out.
The introduction of Daisy and her kits was an added bonus. You can feel the rage building inside of you when Daisy tries to shimmy closer to Cloudtail, her mentor. Mousekit, Berrykit, and Hazelkit are great additions to the Clan and I'm happy they decided to stay and that Cloudtail and Brightheart mended their broken relationship.
You stay at the edge of your seat as each event unfolds and unfurls before you. The action is packed and there is hardly ever a dry moment, which adds to the wonders of this series. Some very odd things happen, such as Onestar acting hostile towards Firestar for unknown reasons, but everything goes back to normal at the end of the book. The big surprise appearance of Stormfur and Brook was an added surprise!
All in all, Twilight is a good book, even though there are some rough patches. I would give it 4 stars and an A- / A grade. Happy reading, but look out for the two-timing Crowfeather!

Warrior: Twilight.......2007-06-24
Squirrelflight and Leafpool, daughters of Firestar, the great ThunderClan leader cat, has some problems going on in their lives. Squirrelflight finds it hard that her best friend, Brambleclaw is betraying her so she concentrates on a friendship with another, better cat called Ashfur. Leafpool is in a stage called forbidden love. She's falling for a WindClan cat called Crowfeather when she knows that she can't. Leafpool's a medicine cat which means she heals cats with herbs and recieves signs from StarClan. Medicine cats do not fall in love and if they do, they broke the Warrior Code and sent to exile. Also, cats can not fall in love with another cat in another Clan. So that means Leafpool broke 2 warrior codes.
Now, Leafpool thinks that she's usless now. Her mentor has found a new cat who could do some jobs for her. Leafpool aruged with Squrrielflight and they never argue. Will Leafpool run away from home with Crowfeather so they can be together and live happily ever after and would Squrrielflight abadon Brambleclaw forever and go with Ashfur; so that their memory is nothing but history?
This book is really good with many twist and turns. It may also be really sad to some people.

I think this book was great but not that eventful. Leafpool runs away with Crowfeather and Cinderpelt dies. At the end of the book ThunderClan get attacked by badgers. Also at the end of the book Stormfur and Brook return! YAY! Anyway I think that Erin H. is a very good at clif hangers but the end kind of annoys me because now I HAVE to get the 6th book by this week to find out what happened to Stormfur and Brook. I love Graystripe (who doesn't?) and i have heard he is coming back! YAY!There is not much more to say except Leafpool isnt as nice as she used to be and Squrrilflight and Brambleclaw keep on treding "on each others tails". I have always thought that Brambleclaw was bad and i wont change my mind!I always will like the previous series more because I miss Rusty, Firepaw, Fireheart, Firestar because Erin H. doesnt talk about him that much anymore. My favorite characters are Graystripe,Stormfur, Feathertail, Ashfur, and, Silverstream! YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK!

These books have been incredible for [..]. This is the second series that he's read in the Warriors group by Erin Hunter. He uses the language that the cats in the book use, and he often comes to tell me about some exciting twist that has happened, or a new character that he's falling in love with. These have been great for his reading speed, he's reading much faster and with greater recall since starting these books a few months ago. I highly recommend them.
You can't skip this book in The New Prophecy!.......2007-05-17
In the books of The New Prophecy it expresses the thoughts of two cats (switching off) and this book contains the thoughts of Squierrelflight and of course Leafpool. In this book Squierrelflight and Brambleclaw start to trouble with their relationship concerning trust. Squierrelflight can't stand the thought that Brambleclaw can even think about his halfbrother Hawkfrost, she says there is something about him she just can't trust. While Leafpool is having trouble with her own admirrer Crowfeather from Windclan! That's right even though she is a medicine cat she can't ignore her love for him! Meanwhile all the medicine cats keep having terifying dreams of disaster, claws and darkness, while Leafpool has her on vision of claws, darkness and pain then it ends. What do all of these things mean? Meanwhile for some reason that Hunter never seemed to put in the book is that Windclan is hating Thunderclan and wants nothing to do with them, until the end of the book when they come to help Thunderclan in their time of HORROR! Something sad about this book is the cat who dies in the end. I'm not saying who it is, but is a cat who you have know a long time and will feel pain to see the end come to this cat's life. Read the Book for more! It's GR8!

If you must read it, get it at the library........2007-09-27
Many, many reviewers have already lamented CoT's lack of plot development and bad writing, so I won't beat that horse. I started this series when I was a young teenager, and I loved the first few books. They were engaging, things happened, and it was a satisfying reading experience.
I'm past thirty now. My tastes have changed, but I still hold dear the fantasy genre even though I'm now well past the target demographic of pimply, slightly overweight gamers pulling all-nighters hopped up on soda and cheap pizza. My advice to those young elven rangers and giant-killing dwarves out there is to save your money on this series. Get the Wheel of Time series at your local library and buy different books from amazon, books that are worth the money. If we stop buying Jordan's schlock, maybe he (or his editors) will grab a clue, buckle down, and end this increasingly irrelevant tale.
Surrounded by Enemies.......2007-09-12
Robert Jordan's epic continues in this book with ever new plot twists and diabolical evil at every turn. Just when the protagonists seem to be settling in to their final positions for the "last battle" new developments turn everything around 180 degrees. I've been hooked on this series for only the past year - thankfully - no waiting a year for the next novel! As with all the others, this is a densely written adventure. It creates a world and characters with such detail that you are completely drawn in - the ultimate in escapism! After finishing a WOT book, I feel bereft for a few days, wondering how all the characters are getting along - they are real to me! The book would not stand on its own - but as a cog in the wheel (no pun intended) it serves its purpose admirably.
I want my money back........2007-08-29
I was a latecomer to the Wheel of Time. I obviously liked it, because I read ten books. This book felt like an episode of daytime television. Nothing meaningful happened, and I wondered if Jordan really means to keep writing the series until they nail his coffin shut. I actually took the book back to the store and demanded a refund. I have NEVER done that with a book before. I felt like I was being exploited by the author for his own pecuniary gain. Very disappointing. You see, I like Egwene and Rand and especially Perrin and the rest of the Scooby gang. And I want to see the story resolved, but I'm not going to read ten more books that don't do anything to get it. I compare this to say, Robin Hobb, who wrote nine books in the same world and somehow never bored me at all.

I really had a difficult time finishing this book and think it could have fit into one or two chapters in his next or last book. Leaves you with very little progress in the story and way too much discription of clothing instead of substance. His first few books were very good. Don't waste your money on this one. Hope the next one is better but I am reluctant to even buy it.

I understand what many other reviewers have written, and that is that this book's pace is too slow. While I agree that its pace is slower than most of the other books, I don't see that as a problem. Life is like that, some days are slower than others. At the end of reading this book, I found that I had enjoyed the time spent once again in Mr. Jordan's world. To all of the negative reviewers out there I say, "Let's see you write something better." Probably less than 1% of them have ever had a book published if that many. The reading world can always use more great (and good) books out there, what it doesn't need is a bunch of whinners.

Veteran Zelda fans will probably find this guide useless. The secrets, tricks and traps are obvious to them. But if you aren't extremely proficient in the Zelda series this book is a godsend. It's an in depth walk through of the entire game, with heart, poe, and item locations intertwined within and in a handy reference section in the back, with detailed instructions on how to get each item. Bosses are all impossible to fight until you stumble upon their weakpoints, which this guide tells you. Several puzzles are also difficult unless you've played through others in the series. While it is designed with the Wii version in mind it also covers the Gamecube version. The only difference between the two is that right and left are switched for everything, but all you have to do is switch right with left and vice versa if using the guide for the Gamecube version like I did.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone playing the game.

I liked David Hodgson's book better. Zelda is our first video game and we are enjoying it greatly. Don't really need a book to play even for a novice. The Wii makes it easy. This books was a waste of money. The other book was fun to read after finishing a section to see if we missed anything.

I heard so much about this book that I started to not buy it, thinking I knew what it said. I'm very glad I read it. I spent 30 years in the oil patch and I have to say that I think the author knows what he's talking about. He makes a very good case for Saudi Arabia's oil production being on the verge of a steep decline. An important analysis, but too long by half.......2007-05-24
Saudi Arabia's economic foundations are increasingly fragile despite the run-up in oil prices during the past three years, driven in part by the disastrous invasion of Iraq. Simmons' work points to a looming problem - that Saudi Arabia has vastly overstated the country's oil reserves and production capacity. He gives sound technical analysis drawn from opinions of independent oil experts.
While it is an important book, the author could have covered the same ground in about half the 464 pages that he used.
For a succinct, fictionalized account of the types of non-economic problems besetting the Saudi regime and the future stability of oil markets, you might take a look at SAUDI MATCH POINT, published recently and available online from Blacksmith Books.
Lots of Food for Thought.......2007-05-10
Some have called Simmons a doomsayer. Others a prophet. With so many reviews of this book already posted, this one will be a bulleted list of some of Simmons' most salient points:
-The last big oil fields were found in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and most are in the middle east. This small part of the world produces most of the planet's oil. With little prospect of new oil discoveries, this is the 'twilight' phenomenon of the book's title.
-The U.S. is too dependent on foreign oil. This is not new. But even if we wanted to be self sufficient, our energy infrastructure is terribly outdated. Our average drilling rigs are 25 years old, and human drillers need 10 years of training--and we're not doing a good job of training new ones.
-Bottom line: we've used too much oil and paid too little for it during the past 50 years, while we've let our global energy infrastructure get too old. Now we all (China, Russia, Europe, and the U.S. in particular) need to work together to undo 50 years of mistakes.
That's Simmons' book in brief. It's thought provoking, although certainly many consider its arguments debatable. Despite one's position on available global oil supply (as well as global warming), in its most lucid and impassioned moments 'Twilight in the Desert' is a stirring call to action.
Well written & excellent analysis.......2007-04-29
Simmons presents a phenomenal analysis of Saudi Arabia's oil production (both their production claims & reality). In it, he presents the history of Saudi Aramco, walking you step by step through the production analysis, injecting definitions of key terms and technology primers along the way. This book presents a skeptic's view of the Saudi claims, and presents much research to back up his skepticism. One thing to note is that he never comes out and says that the Saudis are actually lying about production, but rather, suggests (rightly so), that they are not forthcoming about the reality of their situation, almost goading them into making public their production information.
I only have two minor complaints. First is that the reader is skewed into believing that the Saudis *cannot* substantially increase their production. This may be true, but the better claim would be to show that to do so would require substantial investments. Also, he never acknowledges that if the price of oil were to skyrocket, that market forced would make it quickly fall to a more reasonable level. Simmons is a financial analyst, and anyone who believes in market theory should acknowledge this, especially in a work this comprehensive.
Overall, this book will teach you more about how oil production actually occurs than anything short of a geology textbook, and presents an insight into the whole industry that is nothing short of a tour de force.

For those following Bertrice Small's LARA Character this was the 3rd Book - it was very good - just as Books 1 & 2 were - makes you anxious for the 4th Installment. As far as Amazon goes - I ordered the book used - it came in 4 days in PERFECT condition and even with the shipping cost it was equal to a Book Store Price and I didn't have to use $6.00 worth of gas to go get it.
First and last foray..........2007-08-21
Despite the author's well-recognized name and long, award-filled career, I had never actually read one of Ms Small's books. I received The Twilight Lord (World of Hetar, Book 3) as a freebie and decided to give this author a try, even though I'd essentially be starting in the middle of an established series.
Given Ms Small's many, many awards for her historical fiction stories, I'll have to assume that she is truly a wonderful writer. Unfortunately, I only have The Twilight Lord to judge by, and it was not what I would have expected given the author's reputation.
No doubt someone will point out that it's hardly fair to judge Ms Small based on one book, and that one not the first book in a series. I can only point out the following issues do not rely on a book's order in a series:
- The author and editor should have cut out the numerous, numerous repetition and redundancies in the book, especially in those instances where the characters themselves were already aware of X, Y, and Z.
- There were several instances of rape, which, inconceivably, were portrayed for the most part as being pleasurable for the women involved. Not only was this offensive and cavalier, it didn't even serve the purpose of making the villains out to be more villainous.
- Several of the plot points didn't make internal story sense.
- The characterizations of the main characters were unlikable. They were by turns self-centered, cruel, and immature. It was hard to imagine what redeeming characters they had.
- Despite the big "Lara has a Destiny" plot line and the constant avowal of her powers, the only powers you really see her evince is transporting herself from place to place.
- Many of the sex scenes were repetitive and served no real purpose. Sex in a story is great, but only if it furthers the plot. The only sex that furthered the story in this book was the one that involved the prophecy of the Twilight Lord.
Sometimes, when I start a series in the middle, I'm intrigued enough to want to read the entire series and try other books by the same author. Alas, neither is the case here.

Twilight Lord was a great third book of the series of Hectar. The Subtle hints in book two had taken me in a completely different direction. I hope that this is not the last we see of Lara and the world of Hectar

The Twilight Lord.......2007-07-30
The Twilight Lord was a very disappointing example of Beatrice Small's normally excellent work. There is all together too much gratuitus sex and erotica that does not help to move the story along. Some of the scenes, even the shocking ones with the "Twilight Lord" are necessary to demonstrate his evil nature, but many of the sex scenes are redundant and only take up space that could be better used to develop the plot. Also, in a long-awaited book that was at first labeled part of a trilogy, the plot is neither tight nor resolved. After reading Beatrice Small for more than 30 years, I expect more of her writing--although I have little regard for the editors of Harliquin!!
