Amazon.com Reviews
Heralded as the "best book on the dope decade" by the New York Times Book Review, Hunter S. Thompson's documented drug orgy through Las Vegas would no doubt leave Nancy Reagan blushing and D.A.R.E. founders rethinking their motto. Under the pseudonym of Raoul Duke, Thompson travels with his Samoan attorney, Dr. Gonzo, in a souped-up convertible dubbed the "Great Red Shark." In its trunk, they stow "two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half-full of cocaine and a whole galaxy of multicolored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers.... A quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls," which they manage to consume during their short tour.
On assignment from a sports magazine to cover "the fabulous Mint 400"--a free-for-all biker's race in the heart of the Nevada desert--the drug-a-delic duo stumbles through Vegas in hallucinatory hopes of finding the American dream (two truck-stop waitresses tell them it's nearby, but can't remember if it's on the right or the left). They of course never get the story, but they do commit the only sins in Vegas: "burning the locals, abusing the tourists, terrifying the help." For Thompson to remember and pen his experiences with such clarity and wit is nothing short of a miracle; an impressive feat no matter how one feels about the subject matter. A first-rate sensibility twinger, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is a pop-culture classic, an icon of an era past, and a nugget of pure comedic genius. --Rebekah Warren
Book Description
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is the best chronicle of drug-soaked, addle-brained, rollicking good times ever committed to the printed page. It is also the tale of a long weekend road trip that has gone down in the annals of American pop culture as one of the strangest journeys ever undertaken.
Now this cult classic of gonzo journalism is a major motion picture from Universal, directed by Terry Gilliam and starring Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro. Opens everywhere on May 22, 1998.

I know, I know..........2007-09-30
I know, it's THE Hunter S. Thompson book. It would be like having the gall to write a review for the Grapes of Wrath or Slaughterhouse Five and think you'd be doing anything other than blabbing just to see your own words on a computer screen.
That said, read this book this instant. Whatever good anyone's ever said about this book, it's twenty times better. I read it in two sittings and only stopped myself from reading it again because it was a library book and had to be returned.
The late HST's gift for gonzo, that strange mix of fiction and nonfiction, is ultimately realized in this book. Reality is seamlessly mixed with a bizarre fantasy world of sentient reptiles and split personality through the medium of hard drugs that serve to clarify (and sometimes amplify) a violent and twisted town in a strange time.
This book will have you laughing hysterically at parts, so don't read it around other people unless you're okay with passing it to them. This book will have you cringing at the brutality of human nature at points, so have your wits about you.
I really can't say anything else, other than that this book must be purchased and read this very instant if you haven't already done so.
A must read for anyone.......2007-09-21
Thompson's book helps create a vivid picture of the drug fueled 60's and early 70's a way no one else has before.
Good stuff, but less important than his other work.......2007-09-14
¨Fear and Loathing¨ is a great ride for sure. A drug-addled, hilarious, disturbing romp through Las Vegas in search of the American Dream. Thompson is definitely a skilled writer and an outlaw and this stuff comes through in this book. I don't want to shrug this work off by any means, but I definately prefer his other work, such as ¨The Great Shark Hunt,¨ because it truly brings out Thompson's outlook on the world, his hatred of wealth, power and greed, etc. This book is fun, but Thompson is definitely capable of more depth and thought. While this work might be what gave him his big break, he definitely went on to better things.
Buy the ticket...take the ride.......2007-08-23
A bizzare journey to the heart of the American Dream, funny, witty and full of memorable episodes. The illustrations by Ralph Steadman are also superb. Raul Duke says it clearly : "buy the ticket...take the ride"
A wild and extraordinary ride down a lost highway ..........2007-08-20
The lost highway of the American Dream.
I wasn't old enough to remember much from the late 60's early 70's let alone the political aspects of Nixon's presidency or the drug culture of the time, so this review won't have any profound social or political commentary, except that comparisons can well be made to the drug culture of today, and it is glaringly apparent that not much has changed.
Considering the climate of the time: Nixon's presidency, the war in Vietnam, and the country's young men succumbing to the draft, it was no wonder that an entire generation wanted something more, for this was not the American Dream they had been sold. And for some, the only way to drown out the hypocrisy gnawing at your brain is to give your brain an escape. Expand your mind, as that might be the only part of you that is truly free. Whatever it takes to get you directly out of your head -- the higher the better. This story chronicles a journey utterly devoid of restraint and reason as these two men, Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo, and their trunk full of felonies set themselves loose upon Las Vegas -- the last vestige of the American Dream. However, their idea of the American Dream is not how most of us would understand it, but somehow, through the fog of hallucinatory metaphor, we can actually see and feel what the main characters are searching for so desperately.
All that aside, even if the 60's culture is beyond your age group, Thompson's writing is worth the read -- Brilliant, sarcastic, and frighteningly funny: Bars seething with has-been lounge lizards, tearing the patrons to shreds, blood soaked tacky hotel rooms, police car chases, kidnapping, gambling, excess, and debauchery ... not to mention the Narcotics Convention. The dialog is brilliant. Harrowing experiences abound; it is amazing that the two main characters make it out of Vegas alive.
Definitely a wild ride for all.

Book Description
In the ethereal world of dreams, there are champions who fight to protect the dreamer and there are demons who prey on them...
Arik is such a predator. Condemned by the gods to live eternity without emotions, Arik can only feel when he’s in the dreams of others. For thousands of years, he’s drifted through the human unconscious, searching for sensation. Now he’s finally found a dreamer whose vivid mind can fill his emptiness.
Dr. Megeara Kafieri watched her father ruin himself and his reputation as he searched to prove Atlantis was real. Her deathbed promise to him to salvage his reputation has now brought her to Greece where she intends to prove once and for all that the fabled island is right where her father said it was. But frustration and bad luck dog her every step. Especially the day they find a stranger floating in the sea. His is a face she’s seen many times.... in her dreams.
What she doesn’t know is that Arik holds more than the ancient secrets that can help her find the mythical isle of Atlantis. He has made a pact with the god Hades: In exchange for two weeks as a mortal man, he must return to Olympus with a human soul. Megeara’s soul.
With a secret society out to ruin her expedition, and mysterious accidents that keep threatening her life, Megeara refuses to quit. She knows she’s getting closer to Atlantis and as she does, she stumbles onto the truth of what Arik really is.
For Arik his quest is no longer simple. No human can know of a Dream-Hunter’s existence. His dream of being mortal has quickly turned into his own nightmare and the only way to save himself will be to sacrifice the very thing he wanted to be human for. The only question is, will he?

Phrases only prepubescent girls might come up with.......2007-10-02
Dialog so bad, awkward and embarrassing it ruins what little good is in the story. And of course utterly predictable.
It is easier than a review... let me simply share phrases that would make anyone without a frontal lobotomy cringe:
His ### twitched with sweet anticipation. pg 24
.. she felt like a small plastic car trapped on a racetrack in an endless loop of frustration pg 57
(2 grown men arguing): Every time you close your eyes I'll be there beating the $$$ out of you pg 66
Now that's where I'd like to have him... down below. pg 73
(back to the 2 men): I intend to be a thorn in your side until I drive you mad with fury. pg 78
What made her gape was the hot piece of cheese who was on the dock, striding straight for them. pg 81
pgs 82-85 more unbelievable horrific dialog between the men
... women can't help staring at a train wreck. ... I am never a train wreck myself. I merely admire how you skid from the tracks and burn. pg 91
Any more brilliant apologies and you'll be able to sell icicles on the equator. pg 99
There are SOOOO many more. It really is as if there was a contest for awful dialog and phrases and she took the top 100 and inserted in the book.
Save your money.
Boring...still reading it after a month just to say I finished the *&%#@% thing!.......2007-09-26
This is not the first book of hers I've read, but consistently I've asked myself why she is so popular. It's not that the writing is bad--it's just boring. I don't care about the characters or the situation. And with Atlantis and gods/goddesses in this book, I'm surprised to find myself soapathetic!
This book has received too much flak..........2007-09-19
I thought it was a great book, and on par with other DH books in terms of storyline, action, and romance. If the hero was kinda an !%* and completely selfish at the begining, well, that is what he was supposed to be.
Hot Chocolate!.......2007-09-18
Megeara's quest for Atlantis and fantasies of chocolate and Arik hooked me. Meg is realistic and lovingly drawn, while Arik is a walking fantasy making deals with the devil. Great action scenes with an occasional drag in the plot, you'll keep reading just to find out what happens with Atlantis and Arik.
disappointed again.......2007-09-12
After putting "Sins of the Night" into my recycle bin after reading the first two pages, I swore off Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter books as being terribly written and horribly convoluted in plot. I did okay, really, until I fell for a pretty face- that wonderful guy with the magic eyes on the cover of The Dream Hunter-- and I thought, 'a new character, a new plot line... maybe Ms. Kenyon will have a rennaissance." So, fool that I am, I bought the book. 10 days later, I am still slogging through it- could it be that I have to read back constantly to figure out the numerous gods and demi-gods-from different pantheons, mind you- running around the story? Or could it be the card-board main characters- I keep lifting them up to see if there is anything more than two dimensions! Sorry, this one cured me for sure. I won't be back unless Ms. Kenyon has a guardian goddess who can 'plunk her magic twanger' and make Ms. Kenyon's writing improve a great deal.

As Incubus Dreams opens, Anita Blake may be America's most powerful vampire hunter and necromancer. So it's no surprise that the Regional Preternatural Crime Investigation Team seeks her assistance when a St. Louis stripper is murdered and the evidence points to unusual serial killers: a group of seven vampires. It appears a master vampire has gone rogue--and may prove too powerful for Anita Blake, even if she can gain help from not only her vampire consort, Master of the City Jean-Claude, but from the wereleopard king Micah, her other lover, and the alpha werewolf Richard, her bitter ex-lover.
It would be an exaggeration to say that Laurell K. Hamilton's Incubus Dreams is just one sex scene after another. This twelth novel in her bestselling Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series presents a wedding, a murder, and a lot of relationship angst before getting down and dirty on page 89; and the sex scenes pause on page 377 to let the mystery plot resume. The series deftly blends elements of alternate history, horror, romance, erotica, and mystery, but anyone reading Incubus Dreams for the murder plot is going to be frustrated. However, Incubus Dreams is a considerably stronger and more interesting book than its talky predecessor, Cerulean Sins, and fans will enjoy the many new developments in Anita's complicated love life. --Cynthia Ward

Customer Reviews:
I gave up,.......2007-09-25
I gave up on page 345 (of 722). The mystery hasn't been mentioned since page 24, and Anita has had sex with seven men so far. This from the character who wouldn't sleep with her fiance six or seven books ago. There is no plot, only poorly written, highly improbable, overly detailed sex scenes strung together with dull dialog and cliches. It's mind-numbing. The author has taken a great premise for a series and thrown it away. There are too many books in the world to give this series any more of my time -- I'm done with Anita Blake.
Super Reader.......2007-08-26
If she wants to write what someone on a forum I saw somewhere called Fangfrackers, that is fine.
Don't dress them up as monster hunting books though, and call a
spade a spade, and throw in the erotica word. Will that hurt sales that
badly? If she put out a line of books purely focused on women shagging monsters, can't imagine she wouldn't do really well with it, as she seems to have some talent in that area.
The plot here is of the thin crust variety, no doubt about it.
Personally, in a ghost busting or monster hunting book, I want some
stuff to happen.
Good Stuff.......2007-08-21
Very stimulating stuff. This and 100 Percent Erotica by Suzie Van Aartman really helped me make it through the night. Its the first of Laurell's books for me, but I shall be seeking out more. Thanks for a good read. also check out Zane's The Sex Chronicles.
Still trying to choke it down,,, but why?.......2007-07-19
Like most readers, I've been waiting for Ms. Hamilton to return to the days when there was such a thing as a plot in one of her books. Waiting oh so patiently because of how hooked I'd become despite my earlier determination to hate her poor writing style.
The only reason I looked forward to this book was because I was tricked into thinking we'd get more on Nathaniel--a character I find completely endearing. The parts that did feature Nathaniel were disappointing as hell. All this build-up, then Anita shags him and right away (literally) he's filed away with all the other guys Anita gets it on with and that leads into another mundane sex scene with two other characters. Not very appealing.
And speaking of not appealing...my guess is that most readers of this series are women. Why would LKH feel the need to go into detail during the "rain-making" session with Nathaniel as well other aspects of sex no one needs emphasized even in erotic stories. C'mon, this is fiction. Why would any good writer emphasize those gross details? I felt like my face was being shoved into her...stuff. I wasn't thinking "Wow, that's hot!". I was thinking "Wow, that's TMI...but thanks for sharing, I guess...(gag!)"
It's like she keeps trying to "up" the erotica facter by becoming more and more graphic each time, making each encounter supposedly bigger than the last. Really the only thing bigger than the last is the size of her lovers' genitals. Each guy seems to wow her with his size until the next guy comes along with a bigger toy. Get real, lady... There's fantasy and then there's just plain ridiculous.
There are so many new characters randomly thrown in the mix that the interesting ones get pushed to the sidelines too often. I'm not the only one who's tired of all the talking where there should be action. They converse WAY too much. I feel that the author keeps starting things that she's either unable or too unmotivated to finish in the last couple of books before this.
Y'know, just because you have a big fan base doesn't mean that you don't have to try as hard. It also doesn't mean you'll always have all of those fans. There's always going to be another writer who's better.
I'm just glad I borrowed all of her books from a friend. I didn't waste a cent and from now on, I won't be wasting any of my time either.
Not terrible, but not excellent.......2007-07-13
First and foremost, let me say this: I think it is extremely dishonest and inappropriate of Amazon to cull reviews that speak negatively of items they sell. This is the second time I have written this review, and I know from browsing the site that others have had their negative (or at least not-so-glowing) reviews erased.
This book wasn't terrible, but it sure as hell wasn't very good. Ms Hamilton needs a proofreader and a better editor. There are words misspelled in this book that should not be. There are grammatical errors and spelling mistakes that even Spell Check would catch. To let these errors make it to the finished product is uncalled for. And there are phrases and expressions that Hamilton uses that do not have the shelf life she imagines they do. For instance, please find proper substitutes for the phrases "flat out does it for me" and "take one for the team."
I loved the first 8 or 9 AB books. I couldn't read them fast enough. Even characters I wasn't too fond of, like Richard, grew on me. But with the ardeur comes what so many writers dread, because they aren't easy to write: sex scenes. A properly written sex scene is a glorious thing to behold - if the writer is adept at creating them. Anita's first encounter with J-C was great: it was sweet and hot and the same time. Those of us who wanted them to just do it already pumped our fists in the air and reread that passage several times.
Incubus Dreams was just an awkward book, like a pubescent boy that hasn't quite grown into his height or voice. You can see where Hamilton wants to go, but at the same time, you can see that she doesn't quite have any idea how she will get there. Anita gets new powers willy-nilly and seemingly out of nowhere. She no longer comes across as a consummate professional, be it as an animator or as a Federal Marshal. Hamilton is going to have to figure out some way for Anita to further control the ardeur, because having her walk into a place and screw people that she has barely laid eyes on does nothing for her respectability and likeability.
Lastly, the Nathaniel situation is not my favorite. Such a damaged boy, and for Anita to decide that to keep him on as a pet/houseboy (because that is what he is, despite anyone's objections) would help him more than hinder him just makes me sad. You would think that as a woman and as a member of the fairer sex, Hamilton would have a little more insight on such enabling behavior.
I will finish this series, because I started it, and I will always give it a chance. I don't want to dislike these books, I want nothing more than for them to get better, as they used to be. I will not be purchasing books to come until I have read them first, and until Hamilton has redeemed Anita a little. It's very hard to enjoy a character that you no longer respect.

Customer Reviews:
Thorough, but very U.S.-centric.......2007-07-14
Very thorough, touches every aspect of the job hunt. Not sure how much of the tips are really "guerrilla marketing" though. It's very up to date and the author understands the importance of the online world very well which is great. My big complaint is that it's very U.S.-centric, many of these tactics would be damaging instead of useful in other parts of the world.
Very Useful for Thinking Outside Box.......2007-06-18
I found this book extremely useful. It gave me great ideas for networking and provided some excellent examples of how to think outside the box in regard to getting your name and resume to the top of the list. I would highly recommend it.
Great book for..........2007-05-31
people with lots of experience. If you are not a shining star with 10 years of track record - this book is not for you. You will need to extrapolate to fit your situation.
Guerrilla Marketing: Upgrade Your Career Paradigm.......2007-05-21
I read this book while I was laid off and looking for my next gig. While barely half way through the book and implementing several of its' great ideas, I had offers coming in already. This book clearly reset the vision I had for myself and enabled the confidence I needed to write my own ticket for the position I was in negotiations for and would eventually accept.
After one month on the new job, and managing my "on-the- job image" I still find myself being helped by what I learned in my effort to be well received and empowered to fill the role of a leader.
This book offers many new yet proven methods for successfully landing a job which I can personally attest to. I recommend it to anyone working in the corporate world who wants to distinguish themselves as leaders - whether they are working or looking for work. Excellent read and one that will upgrade your career paradigm.
Guerrilla Marketing: A Creative Way for Finding a Job.......2007-04-20
It is an understatement to say that the number of books on job hunting is overwhelming. In addition, there is plenty of free information on the Web for job hunters including sample resumes and cover letters. On the surface, this wealth of information seems to be a good thing. However, ask yourself, "How much of this information is a variation of standard approaches to job hunting". You know - write a chronological resume, a bland cover letter, and send both to an unknown hiring manager or HR person. More often than not, you are lucky to receive an automated e-mail acknowledging the receipt of your resume and cover letter. If you find all this fruitless and tiresome, then Guerrilla Marketing for Job Hunters is the book for you.
This book looks at job hunting in an radically new way - the guerilla way. Its subtitle "400 Unconventional Tips, Tricks, and Tactics for Landing Your Dream Job" sums up the book nicely. The book is divided into four parts:
A discussion of the guerrilla frame of mind;
An inventory of weapons such as resume makeovers, ideas for cover letters, and PR strategies for your guerrilla campaign;
A description of tactics for landing a job including networking and cold calling; and,
A discussion of guerrilla campaigning with examples and techniques for effective interviewing and navigating the final offer.
The appendices contain several examples of resumes including eXtreme(tm) makeovers and a Value-Based(tm) one as well as an example of a cover letter - "the only cover letter you will ever need." These are key ingredients for your guerrilla arsenal.
This book is informative, easy to read, and has numerous examples to illustrate the tactics of a guerrilla approach to job hunting. Beyond the tips, tricks, and tactics for getting a job, the book is a launching pad for the reader to innovate ways of finding that coveted job. So, if you want a creative approach to finding a job and have fun at the same time, this book is for you.

God taught them that marriage has been presented 'upside down' in the church for 45 years. The principles that Joel and Kathy started to live in 1994 set their marriage right side up and will do the same thing for yours. Joel and Kathy lived this successful and new paradigm for ten years before writing their story and sharing the lessons learned.Be sure to look for book two, also for sale here at Amazon! Another good resource for marriages..........2007-09-01
This book, along with using scripture, can help couples identify and address marital problems and remedy them so that their marriages can be blessed and happy. As each spouse is overflowing with the love of God, then their marriage will be happy and blessed. The church and society at large will benefit as happily married christian couples bring God's kingdom into this world.
Just as God's grace is multifaceted, I believe that solutions in life will be as well. There are many good marriage books. I just read an unflattering book review by the couple that wrote this book (which is how I got here), and I am concerned on a variety of levels. The following statements are from the bible and should be lived out. Christians are to submit to God first and then to one another. Christians are to love other christians and non-christians. Husbands are are to love their wives as Christ loved the church. Wives are told to submit/obey their husbands. The weight of emphasis is what Joel has an issue with. He expresses frustration with the emphasis that if wives would only submit, husbands would love. I agree with him. But God's order and design for marriage should not be dismissed. I need to love my enemies, regardless if they deserve it. Husbands and wives have responsibilities in marriage whether the spouses deserve it or not.
It is astounding to me that Joel would publicly denounce another book on the same subject matter in a book review on Amazon. He never finished reading the book he criticized. He claims that the bible teaching of women having to submit to their husbands is based on one LONELY scripture and is actually the reason that the church's teaching on marriage has been 'upside down' for 45 years. He purports that his book teaches something inspired by God and corrects the generally accepted church marriage paradigm. On this topic, Joel claims to be prophetic.
He also claimed in his review that his greatest need as a man "is for me to learn what it means to lay my life down for my wife and love her as Christ loves the church," not to be respected by his wife. These are not analogous. Actually, one is his responsibility/obligation (dying for his wife and loving her), the other is a reference to a desired response from his wife (respect). The author of "Love and Respect" (the critically reviewed book) makes that distinction. Husbands and wives are responsible to behave as the Bible teaches, regardless of the number of scriptures that support a behavior (for instance - being a living sacrifice). Respect is something I appreciate from others, especially my wife.
Another strong statement in the review is "I do not want my wife to feel like she is supposed to "respect" me simply because I am her husband or because the bible tells her to respect me. Yes, every man would like to feel respect - but does a Christlike man want his wife to respect him just because he is a male whom she is married to? No. A real man wants to live a life that is worthy of respect and wants to be respected because of the life that he lives." He obviously was not worthy of her respect for many years in their marriage. In fact, his behavior while being a pastor was bad enough to disqualify him from ministry. We as christians should be living lives that please God which will engender the responses of respect and love in return. I would like to illustrate this from a wife's perspective, using Joel's quote, "I do not want my husband to feel like he is supposed to "love" me simply because I am his wife or because the bible tells him to love me. Yes, every woman would like to feel love - but does a Christlike woman want her husband to respect her just because she is a female whom he is married to? No. A real woman wants to live a life that is worthy of love and wants to be loved because of the life that she lives"? I would hope so. We should live what the bible says, even if others are not living the way they are supposed to be living. Proverbs 31 exhorts women to be virtuous. Men and women, regardless of being spouses, are called to be holy and loving.
Joel was a pastor when he was guilty of abusing his wife emotionally, physically, and spiritually. He eventually committed adultery. Interestingly, his parents were involved with pastoring as well, and his father had also committed adultery and left the family. It makes one wonder when a family of pastors can behave so badly. Joel, as the egregious offender, he needed to change, and not blame his wife. But what about when a wife commits adultery? Is it the husband's fault? As David proclaimed, I have sinned against the Lord. Good marriage counseling addresses spousal accountabilities, thoughts and behaviors that are inconsistent with them, and strategies to help change the marriage for the better. Rarely is a bad marriage one spouse's fault.
Before Joel's book was written in 2004, many wonderful helpful biblical marriage books were already written. And if he had read those books, he may have avoided or shortened the length of the abuse and adultery that he was guilty of. A book that balances a husband's responsibility in marriage and a wife's responsibility in marriage is called "The Way of Agape" by Nancy Missler, written in 1995. Her marriage was in shambles as well, but she fought to preserve her marriage just like Joel's wife fought to preserve theirs. Another book that was written from the perspective that a husband's behavior alone could turn a marriage around is called "Rekindled, How to Keep the Warmth in Marriage" by Pat Williams, also written in 1995. Both books take different approaches, but the end result was the same - a saved, vibrant, restored marriage.
Hopefully, in the spirit of Christian love and humility, Joel will refrain from writing additional poor book reviews on marital topics, while promoting his own books. The love he promotes in this book for his wife comes from the Holy Spirit. The same source should influence Joel to be less critical of other marriage books.
Great Book.......2007-07-19
As a Christian Counselor I use many books in my work including this one and "The Man of Her Dreams The Woman of His! 2" (the second book by this same author. I also like the new book A Forever Love Story Surviving Trials in Marriage These books are useful in showing how a Christian marriage should be. They are great "instruction manuals" on doing marriage right that goes well with the Bible. I would certainly recommend all of these books to any couple wishing to better their marriage.
Enjoyed the Book.......2007-06-30
This book is very informative and helpful in the age old conflict between husbands and wives. Joel is to be commended for his eye opening stand on issues that have for too long kept women in mental outlooks of defeat, especially when it comes to a troubled marriage. Joel and Kathy have taken a position of determination to help people realize their responsibilties in contributing to the foundation of trusting love and wholesomeness between a couple. For me, this book has been invaluable for supporting and even encouraging regaining hope that was lost and a renewed self image. That, in itself, is healing. I appreciated the emphasis on men recognizing their God-given responsibilty to lay down their own interests in life, as the head of the home, for the good of their wives. I have always believed that good would come back to them in abundance, if they caught hold of that vision. Love and respect is the main theme throughout this book. What better platform can you speak from then what God has already declared to be His design in the first place.
Hats off to Joel and Kathy! And prayerfully, may this type of writing/ministry be a forerunner to many ministries and counselors who seek to help in the marriage arena. Here is "hole" in our society that needs to be addressed and fixed. I would recommend this book to anyone who is married or even thinking about getting married!! Full of common sense.
This information WILL change your life!.......2007-06-13
This book is awesome and powerful. Joel and Kathy are truly amazing and hit the nail right on the head in every area of how to have the marriage of your dreams!!

Made in Heaven!
When it comes to communicating how struggling marriages can be healed, God has done a mighty work in authors, Joel and Kathy Davisson. And the good news is they have shared what they learned in not one, but two of the most innovative marriage books around.
Book I, The Man of Her Dreams, The Woman of His, tells how their relationship was restored, using sound biblical principals, after the sins of adultery and abuse had taken a huge toll on their marriage.
In Book II, The Man of Her Dreams The Woman of His 2 - Livin' It and Lovin' It! (Volume 2) Joel and Kathy continue to share the insight God has given them which has produced the "outrageously happy marriage" they now enjoy. Such ideas as the husband as initiator in the relationship--the husband sets the tone of the marriage--he is the leader in that sense. They also champion submission--not as it has traditionally been taught, but MUTUAL submission, wherein the wife submits to the husband AND the husband submits to the wife. As in Book I, men are called to "become the man God is calling you to be by being the husband your wife needs you to be."
In both of their books, Joel and Kathy teach tried and true concepts gleaned from the Bible that they have applied to their own once struggling, now very successful marriage. This is a must-read for anyone who wants to have or help others to have a marriage (literally) made in heaven!

The mysterious Vampire Hunter D is lured to the tranquil oasis by recurrent dreams of the beautiful, undying girl bathed in an eerie blue light and dancing in a ghostly chateau.

A Few Words.......2007-07-15
This book has a very interesting twist at the end. Think of it like Alice in Wonderland. Yet again, I love the book.
D and Sleeping Beauty.......2007-05-09
An interesting twist to the saga of the dhampir, D. In this story we find D unable to get a good night's (or is day's?) rest. Not because he is hounded by demons and bounty hunters, his nights are restless because everytime he closes his eyes he experiances the same dream over and over again. And when he arrives in a village that has been at peace with vampires since who knows when, things get even more strange when he meets the girl in his dreams...asleep for the past 30 years from a vampire's "kiss."
As with the other D novels, we are plagued constantly about how beautiful the dhampir is, which gets old after the 2nd or 3rd novel. But unlike the previous 4 novels, D is placed in a situation unlike anything he has faced before. No matter how much he tries, someone or something will not let him leave the village. To say more will ruin the excellent story.
An excellent read. Recommended age of reader, 13. No sex, mild language, some horror violence, but nothing a teenager couldn't handle.
More ghost than Vampire.......2007-02-15
Were D not a dhampir, it would be very easy to describe this volume as more ghost story than vampire novel. Even though the story is precipitated by a vampire's kiss (from our mysterious HIM, presumably D's father), the main thrust of the story is from the reality vs. perception conflict more common the the ghost-story genre.
I greatly admire the atmosphere of this particular novel and feel that it would become a beautiful film, as it has a great deal of nuance and symbolism. (In this way it far outshines the almost frantic fourth novel)
Sybille (the girl the sleep bringer loved) is yet another victim of His dream for the future, a dream which she shared and in which she became entrapped. This meta-conflict has been brewing for several books (popping up in the second and fourth books as well) and unlike the fourth book we see it here as something perhaps more beautiful than sinister.
Mildly confusing, but highly entertaining........2007-01-12
For the casual reader, even some not-so-casual, some of the aspects of the novel can be very confusing: what's real? what's not? But, overall, I found myself very much enjoying this book, as I have the previous 4, and would recommend the series to anyone who is into fantasy/sci-fi settings.
Another great book.......2007-01-10
Yet again another great book from Hideyuki Kikuchi. I have enjoyed all of this series so far, but the only thing I wish was that the translation was a little better. I really pretty good, it just sometimes the wording doesn't make sense at first. In the end you do get the jist of it. Great book, and if you liked the movies you should pick up the series.

Sandman fans should feel lucky that master fantasy writer Neil Gaiman discovered the mythical world of Japanese fables while researching his translation of Hayao Miyazaki's film Princess Mononoke. At the same time, while preparing for the Sandman 10th anniversary, he met Yoshitaka Amano, his artist for the 11th Sandman book. Amano is the famed designer of the Final Fantasy game series. The product of Gaiman's immersion in Japanese art, culture, and history, Sandman: Dream Hunters is a classic Japanese tale (adapted from "The Fox, the Monk, and the Mikado of All Night's Dreaming") that he has subtly morphed into his Sandman universe.
Like most fables, the story begins with a wager between two jealous animals, a fox and a badger: which of them can drive a young monk from his solitary temple? The winner will make the temple into a new fox or badger home. But as the fox adopts the form of a woman to woo the monk from his hermitage, she falls in love with him. Meanwhile, in far away Kyoto, the wealthy Master of Yin-Yang, the onmyoji, is plagued by his fears and seeks tranquility in his command of sorcery. He learns of the monk and his inner peace; he dispatches demons to plague the monk in his dreams and eventually kill him to bring his peace to the onmyoji. The fox overhears the demons on their way to the monk and begins her struggle to save the man whom at first she so envied.
Dream Hunters is a beautiful package. From the ink-brush painted endpapers to the luminous page layouts--including Amano's gate-fold painting of Morpheus in a sea of reds, oranges, and violets--this book has been crafted for a sensuous reading experience. Gaiman has developed as a prose stylist in the last several years with novels and stories such as Neverwhere and Stardust, and his narrative rings with a sense of timelessness and magic that gently sustains this adult fairy tale. The only disappointment here is that the book is so brief. One could imagine this creative team being even better suited to a longer story of more epic proportions. On the final page of Dream Hunters, in fact, Amano suggest that he will collaborate further with Mr. Gaiman in the future. Readers of Dream Hunters will hope that Amano's dream comes true. --Patrick O'Kelley

Awesome~.......2007-10-03
Easily one of my favorites with Amano's art, a beautiful but sad tale with Amano's incredible art to bring the mythical tale to life~ Five Stars and worth your money.
A Beautiful Story.......2007-09-16
This is a beautifully told, self-contained tale in the Sandman series. The artwork is stunning and the writing is incredible. Neil Gaiman writes characters that are beautiful, subtle and intelligent. Really, just an all-around beautiful piece of art.
Beautiful.......2007-04-02
The art and the story combine to make this a beautiful work. Removing the setting to a fairytale takes this book out of the "graphic novels are too serious literature" debate and makes it clear that this is entertainment, storytelling, and art. Of course it's nice to see Morpheus lurking around, but anybody could read this (and enjoy it), no knowledge of comics, Sandman, etc., required.
The most beautiful Sandman I've read........2006-10-24
I've read quite a few of the sandman comics but haven't been inspired enough to purchase one. This is my first. While I've always enjoyed the mysterious world that Neil Gaiman creates, I at the same time hate The Sandman character. The incarnation of Dreams as a hipster doofus just don't do it for me. And Thanatos(the incarnation of death) as a ditsy punk rock girl? WTF? In fact, I almost didn't read The Dream Hunters because hipster doofus is on the front cover. Luckily I gave it a chance.
The Sandman character does make a brief appearance in The Dream Hunters, it is kept to a bare minimum.
The story itself is wonderful. The art is far better than anything I've seen in a Sandman comic before.
The story had me gracefully and slowly turning each page. The ending left me with slight chills.
One could easily read this entire comic in less than an hour but it took me about 3 days because I had to put it down often in order to soak in the world in which our characters lived their love.
A beautiful story and visually mesmerizing.
One important thing people seem to have missed..........2005-11-09
This story is not based on an old Japanese folk tale as I have seen repeated over and over in these reviews. Gaiman made that up. It is his own story. And to get people to believe that, even the reviewer on CNN, shows how truly magical he is.
Book Description
First published in 1990, Songs of the Doomed is back in print -- by popular demand! In this third and most extraordinary volume of the Gonzo Papers, Dr. Hunter S. Thompson recalls high and hideous moments in his thirty years in the Passing Lane -- and no one is safe from his hilarious, remarkably astute social commentary.
With Thompson's trademark insight and passion about the state of American politics and culture, Songs of the Doomed charts the long, strange trip from Kennedy to Quayle in Thompson's freewheeling, inimitable style. Spanning four decades -- 1950 to 1990 -- Thompson is at the top of his form while fleeing New York for Puerto Rico, riding with the Hell's Angels, investigating Las Vegas sleaze, grappling with the "Dukakis problem," and finally, detailing his infamous lifestyle bust, trial documents, and Fourth Amendment battle with the Law. These tales -- often sleazy, brutal, and crude -- are only the tip of what Jack Nicholson called "the most baffling human iceberg of our time."
Songs of the Doomed is vintage Thompson -- a brilliant, brazen, bawdy compilation of the greatest sound bites of Gonzo journalism from the past thirty years.

The Search for the Brown Buffalo.......2006-02-25
Generally the most the trenchant social criticism, commentary and analysis complete with a prescriptive social program ripe for implementation has been done by thinkers and writers who work outside the realm of bourgeois society, notably socialists and other progressive thinkers. Bourgeois society rarely allows itself, in self defense, to be skewered by trenchant criticism from within. This is particularly true when it comes from a known dope fiend, gun freak and all-around lifestyle addict like the late, lamented Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. Nevertheless, although he was far from any thought of a socialist solution and would reject such a designation we could travel part of the way with him. We saw him as a kindred spirit. He was not one of us- but he was one of us. All honor to him for pushing the envelope of journalism in new directions and for his pinpricks at the hypocrisy of bourgeois society. Such men are dangerous.
I am not sure whether at the end of the day Hunter Thompson saw himself or wanted to been seen as a voice, or the voice, of his generation but he would not be an unworthy candidate. In any case, his was not the voice of the generation of 1968 being just enough older to have been formed by an earlier, less forgiving milieu of the 1950's. His earlier writings shows that effect. Nevertheless, only a few, and with time it seems fewer in each generation, allow themselves to search for some kind of truth even if they cannot go the whole distance. This compilation under review is a hodgepodge of articles over the best part of Thompson's career. As with all journalists, as indeed with all writers especially those who are writing under the gun and for mass circulation media these works show an uneven quality. However the total effect is to blast old bourgeois society almost to its foundations. Others will have to push on further.
One should note that `gonzo' journalism is quite compatible with socialist materialism. That is, the writer is not precluded from interpreting the events described within himself/herself as an actor in the story. The worst swindle in journalism, fostered by the formal journalism schools, as well as in other disciplines like history and political science is that somehow one must be `objective'. Reality is better served if the writer puts his/her analysis correctly and then gets out of the way. In his best work that was Hunter's way.
As a member of the generation of 1968 I would note that this was a period of particular importance which won Hunter his spurs as a journalist. Hunter, like many of us, cut his political teeth on one Richard Milhous Nixon, at one time President of the United States and all- around political chameleon. Thompson went way out of his way, and with pleasure, skewering that man when he was riding high. He was moreover just as happy to kick him when he was down, just for good measure. Nixon represented the `dark side' of the American spirit- the side that appears today as the bully boy of the world and as craven brute. Sound familar? If for nothing else Brother Thompson deserves a place in the pantheon of journalistic heroes for this exercise in elementary hygiene. Anyone who wants to rehabilitate THAT man before history please consult Thompson's work. Hunter, I hope you find the Brown Buffalo wherever you are. Read this book. Read all his books.
Excellent Sampler.......2002-12-24
This is an excellent introduction to the range of Thompson's writings though the early 1990's. It includes samples of his two early novels (Prince Jellyfish, The Rum Diary) and articles and excerpts from his later journalism and fiction ("Let The Trials Begin" is worth the price of the book). No duplication of material fromThe Great Shark Hunt, his earlier collection. An excellent audio version was realeased when the book was first published.
This book gives you some idea of what he was up to during the time covered by the two volumes of letters he's published and shows that his humor and sense of outrage have matured better than, say, Mark Twain's during a comparable stretch of his writing career.

Only marriage book you need.......2007-06-13
Joel and Kathy Davisson's "Livin' It and Lovin' It" is the only marriage book anyone needs to successfully navigate the blessing of marriage. It is completely based on scripture and debunks past mis-conceptions bought into by the body of Christ, namely the "submissive wife" teaching. If you want true freedom and anointed equality with respect and dignity for both partners then this is the book for you. Their first book, "The Man of Her Dreams The Woman of His" is a great introduction and overview for this topic. Both will launch your marriage into the heights of joy and "soulmates" that God originally intended.

Heal and Recover.......2007-06-08
God has blessed Joel and Kathy with a ministry that is sorely needed. The divorce rate is too high. Men and women must begin to prepare for marriage instead of just planning a wedding. I'm in ministry for step-families. My husband and I are reading the book and thrilling to the possibilities of a fresh outlook on a God-focused and super-blessed marriage. Thank you Joel and Kathy...God bless you and your ministry!
Thank you for your HONESTY!!.......2007-06-07
Joel & Kathy, congratulations! Your books have to be the most brutally honest Christian books I have ever read. Ever. Nobody - especially no Christian - ever displays their flaws and sins the way you have in these books. And this sort of honesty and help is what marriages in the Body of Christ need DESPERATELY! As a Christian, I just want to say , "THANK YOU! Thanks for being so honest and open so that others can receive the same healing and help that you have received from the Lord!" I have really enjoyed reading your books and I have found myself with my mouth hanging open (literally) a lot of the time. Not that you were any more flawed than anybody else out there, but that you are so HONEST about it. Your books are so refreshing in today's atmosphere of "slap a smile on your face, hide all your pain, and we'll just divorce when we can't take it any more." God bless you, guys! Everybody needs to read your books!
Livin' It and Lovin' It!.......2007-06-05
This book has changed my life. As a husband with a great deal of emotional pain and pride this book has taught me how to care for my wife's heart and heal her pain. Marriage is about teamwork's and mutual submission. A successful marriage is found through balance and communication. I am in a constant mode of refining myself to be the husband that God and my wife desires.
Through this book I have learned these principles and have applied them in our marriage to find lasting change and happiness.
Thank you Joel and Kathy for being so open and vulnerable in your marriage. You have blessed so many marriages through your testimonies and on-going mission work.
