Fun and tasty!.......2007-04-07
Bought this book for a gift for my mom. She loves chocolate number one, but I wanted to share with her the types of European chocolate drinks that we recently enjoyed in Europe. The recipies inside were exactly like the drinks we tried in France, Italy, and Spain. It's a cute, smart looking book as well.
Absolutely Yummy!.......2007-03-23
Oh My Gosh! This chocoholic bumped into this delicious little book the other day while scanning the 2007 IACP Cookbook finalists... went out and bought it that afternoon. Fred has captued in 90+ pages the best of the best when it comes to exciting, teasing and yummy hot chocolate recipes. I've already made 5 of the drinks along with the "chocolate gravy" & biscuits. Absolutely awesome! And on Saturday afternoon the frozen hot chocolate ingredients will come together... great way to enjoy with friends a warm Spring day.
A Luscious Gift.......2006-10-15
This book is fantastic. The writing is great and the photos make your mouth water. I am especially excited about the mixes. I have tried them and they are delicious. I plan to make them for Christmas gifts. Use the presentations in the book and you will have a delectable and unique gift. If you don't have time to do this then give the book - even better!
Super Delicious.......2006-09-25
Fantastic chocolate recipes! Some recipes are just right to drink in the morning instead of coffee. Others are richer and desserty.
The pictures are beautiful. The writing style is fun. This is a great gift book. Just be sure you get one for yourself too.
I loved the copy I bought so much that I am buying this book for everyone for Christmas to give with a coffee mug and a great quality chocolate bar. On the card I am going to say, something nutty like "for my sweet or hot friend" (as appropriate)

A book to uplift a lover's soul.............2007-04-01
This book is truly one of my all time favorites! I've read it about 4 times now and I still get a lot out of it. I stumbled upon this book about a year ago, when I was going through a really difficult break up. I (like a lot of people) hit that moment where I swore there was "no real love affairs, no unconditional love and no such things as soul mates!" (For a hopeless romantic who never gives up on love, that's pretty bad.)
I was really, really hurt, but when out of my pain I decided to read this book I was amazed, touched, and healed. I felt hope coming back into my soul again. I felt renewed, I realized that there are such things as unconditional love, and soul mates. I regained lost hope for my romantic future.
This book is great, Arielle Ford did a wonderful job compiling all these stories and I commend her for not being judgemental of alternative relationships and including them in this book. I sincerely hope she does another book like this with more wonderful stories for hopeless romantics like me.

When you just need to believe in love.......2007-03-20
Beyond the woo-woo New Age feel of this... I do believe that sometimes God is trying to tell you something when coincidences happen too often to be random. Whether you believe in the new physics of love from Dr. Henry Grayson, or in allowing The Circle by Laura Day to lead you to love, or perhaps feel that Attracting love in is the name of the game (there is a book on this too) .... maybe some people ARE meant to be. Squire Rusnell documents this in his "God winks" books too. Since I am writing this on the birthday of my own lost love (see my review of Laura Day's Practical Intuition in Love, Happy Birthday Giovanni, I still love you my favorite Pisces/Aries) ... I'm all for this book for those who are meant to be. So savor and cherish a memory. Don't forget the hot chocolate to warm your heart.
Inspirational & Hopeful Book.......2005-07-29
I found a copy of this book at a thrift shop a few years ago.I am open to new age and spiritual philosophies but not a big freak on it.I really liked this book, very uplifting.I held on to my copy, torn between keeping it to myself and sharing with friends. It is a great gift for someone still searching for true love or for that matter someone getting over a broken heart.
A Gorgeous Book On Spiritual Love.......2004-04-14
This book will remind you how magical and sacred love can be. Whether you're married (or single and looking) this little gem will give you a renewed sense of hope and refresh your perspective on romance. How wonderful to realize that love is more than an ecstasy; but also a unique opportunity to develop oneself spiritually. After reading these stories, it seems the universe has a plan that we all have a special place in. An absolute delight, I'd give it six stars if I could...
More than adequate.......2001-10-30
While most of the stories in Ms. Arielle Ford's book were touching it was not exactly what I expected I always thought soul mate is somebody who is really your other half, someone who fills that void within your heart, that very special person who makes you more whole than you already and with whom you have ties to from past lives and future lives. You share that unbreakable cosmic bond. When you see them there is just divine a spark between you that literally lights up both your worlds and the world becomes a heavenly place. Or then maybe I am just a hopeless romantic.

Nice pics, but not so hot........2007-07-06
This book is good if you are a lover of black men and gaytoons. It is of fine quality paper and nice art work, but would be better if it highlighted work by several artists. I enjoyed the book, but went through it once and probably won't look at it again, unlike other such books I've purchased by Tom of Finland, the Hun, or others.
dark skinned hunks that have it all.......2007-01-10
Big, bigger, and just plain huge packages! There's no escaping the erotic factor in this art book filled with chocolate gods. If you like your men dark and well endowed then this is the book for you.
Graphic hand drawn depictions of HOT men are on every full color page.

Great sequel -- great exercise for my child who is a new reader.......2006-12-04
My child read this book tonight and loved it. It was a nice sequel -- it only left us wondering why Howe left out background about Howie. If you know the regular books you will know the answer. But these "ready-to-read" versions are super for the new reader but are abridged from the originals so some of the pertinent facts are left out -- hence I give it 4 stars.
hot fudge.......2001-04-20
I like Hot Fudge because it has alot of chocolate in it. The two dogs and the cat thought some one had stolen the hot fudge. If you want to hear more about Hot Fudge read the book and you will love it.
An Amusing Animal Adventure Story.......2000-09-26
Ages 4-8 yrs. Sort of a long story about some house pets--Harold the dog, Chester the cat, Howie the small dog, and Bunnicula the rabbit--who are worried that someone is trying to break into their humans' house. They talk to each other in the story as they set up guard duty, and then try and solve the mystery of the missing fudge.
The story can be a little long for young ones, and there are multiple characters talking on various pages. This can be confusing to children listners if the reader parent/teacher doesn't seperate, or change the characters' voices--there are humans who also have dialoge--so children can easily identify who is talking. But, it's a fun story that ends happily, and if that's not enough, there is a recipe in the back of the book for Mr. Monroe's Famous Fudge!
Book Description
Chocoholics rejoice! If you thought there was only one way to make hot chocolate, then a sublime world awaits. In HOT CHOCOLATE, the first book to come out of the growing trend of haute chocolate consumption, preeminent chocolatiers from around the world contribute more than 60 recipes, including concoctions like Lavender-Pistachio Hot Chocolate; Maple-Whiskey Hot Chocolate Toddy; Nutella Hot Chocolate; Malted Milkball Hot Chocolate; and the famous Frrrozen Hot Chocolate from Manhattan's Serendipity 3. Food writer Michael Turback suggests adding rosebuds or cayenne, frothing with a Mexican molinillo, or adding dollops of schlagobers (Viennese whipped cream), and includes ingredient and tool resources as well as a fascinating account of the history of liquid chocolates.
Customer Reviews:
These recipes must not have been tested........2007-03-16
This cookbook has good ideas in it but it is impossible to get a good cup of hot chocolate from any of these recipes. The proportions are all wrong and when the recipes are followed you end up with thick, hot goo. It is unfortunate but that is the reality of this cookbook. Skip it, I wish I had.
True hot chocolate delight.......2006-09-13
This is a fairly small and unassuming cookbook, but it has an elegant flair to it. It includes notes on ingredients, tools, and techniques, including hints for blending the flavors and creating a creamy cup of hot chocolate. One of the problems I've had with hot chocolate in the past is that unlike cocoa, chocolate doesn't always dissolve as thoroughly or easily. However, with the techniques in this book it works beautifully. I've never had hot chocolate that was so smooth and delectable.
The recipes are organized in chapters by type of recipe. First you'll find recipes that reflect the historical origins of chocolate, or "Ancestral Hot Chocolates." These tend to involve spices, including a "Hellfire Hot Chocolate" that includes both allspice and cayenne! The next chapter is one of European classics, including a white hot chocolate that is my favorite recipe in this cookbook.
A chapter of modern variations on hot chocolate includes some of the truly adventuresome and odd recipes in this cookbook, such as Tarragon and Black Pepper Hot Chocolate(!) and Bay Leaf-Infused Hot Chocolate. It also includes a few flavors reminiscent of modern candy trends, such as caramel, peppermint or peanut butter.
"Adults Only" hot chocolates include alcohol, and there's also a chapter of "nostalgic" recipes, including cold recipes, a Hot Chocolate Eggnog recipe, and even a fondue. The final chapter, one of hot chocolate pairings, presents recipes for various sides to include with hot chocolate. For instance, S'Mores Hot Chocolate with Graham Crackers (and yes, there's a recipe for homemade graham crackers!).
There are only a few mild concerns one might have regarding this cookbook, I believe. After all, the quality of the recipes seems exquisite. First, many people simply aren't adventurous enough to try many of the recipes in this cookbook. Second, these are most definitely not lightweight recipes--many of them involve plenty of heavy cream, although you can find a decent selection that at least use whole milk instead; thus, if you're watching your weight, you may want to save these recipes for rare special occasions. And finally, some of these recipes are so insanely rich that we couldn't drink them as-is. Let me clarify--this is not a reason to avoid making some of the recipes; it didn't render them inedible. It simply turned them into what we preferred to think of as hot chocolate concentrate!
If you love hot chocolate, buy this book.......2006-03-14
This is a great recipe book for anyone who loves hot chocolate. Beautiful illustrations. Would make a wonderful 'stocking stuffer' at holiday time.
Lovely.......2006-02-25
This is a lovely little book (it's only 6" x 6" square, small enough to tuck into a handbag!) with some very interesting recipes. Each recipe provides fascinating information on chocolate in general, drinking chocolate, or the place from which the recipe originated. There aren't a lot of photos for my taste (I do like plenty of beautiful photographs) but those that are there are very nicely done. I'm especially fond of the Lavender-Pistachio Hot Chocolate and Hot Chocolate a l'Orange, the latter of which uses an unexpected combination of ingredients.
very pleasant surprise.......2005-11-09
A few weeks ago I stumbled upon this little book in a used bookstore (surprisingly, since it's brand new). I normally avoid these cutesy, tiny, single subject cookbooks but having just come from a chocolate cafe where I ordered a lovely european hot chocolate, i decided the fates were sending a sign. i'm glad i gave it a chance, since its a much more thorough and thoughtfully executed then the usual mini-book. the book is a fun, nicely styled and inexpensive guide to hot chocolate with extremely reliable and surprisingly diverse recipes ranging from the traditional american hot cocoa and various viscous european varieties (spanish, italian, viennese) to the familiar variations for any foodie (such as white hot chocolate and mexican spiced hot chocolate) as well as the novel (e.g. lavender pistachio, ginger caramel), kid friendly (e.g., nutella, malted milk), winter cocktail party (brown russian, chocolate hot toddy) and exotic (more-dessert-than-drink black bottom hot chocolate, a traditional columbian hot chocolate with chunks of fresh cheese floating like our marshmallows). There are a few recipes for accompaniments like churros and cacao nib cookies as well as more traditional accouturements like flavored whipped cream and marshmallows. Most of the 60 recipes come from pastry chefs, chocolate shops and cafes (including luminaries like scharffenberger's cafe cacao, katrina markoff, pat coston, joanne chang) which adds considerably to the diversity of styles and flavors-- you're not just getting a sample of one person's palate. Of course, the recipes are all relatively small variations on a set of very basic and easy to execute themes, but the decided ease of preparing hot chocolate means even the busiest person with the poorest culinary skills can make good use of the book while its variety and whimsy ensures that the most jaded choco-phile will also find new inspiration. There are also a number of good general tips and hints in the book for more general experimentation (e.g. hot chocolate becomes more velvety if prepared in advance and then reheated, a pinch of salt adds depth of flavor, adding some sucanat or brown sugar is an easy way to add a caramel flavor) though I do wish the book had a slightly longer general guide/discussion that synthesized the best tips buried in recipes. Overall, highly recommended; a perfect small treat for yourself or someone else.

Empowering stories of ordinary teenagers who have extraordinary experiences.
When we least expect it, moments of miracle, mystery, and magic happen to us, often changing the course of our lives. In her hugely successful Hot Chocolate series Arielle Ford has captured this phenomenon and made it resonate with readers everywhere. Now, she focuses her true stories of transformation on teenagers, whose yearnings, fears, and conflicts often go unaddressed. In Hot Chocolate for the Mystical Teenage Soul Ford has collected 101 true stories of mysterious experiences involving angels, miracles, near-death experiences, divine interventions, and miraculous healings that have happened to teenagers from all walks of life. The result is a book that offers hope and insight at a time when being an adolescent is more difficult than ever before. Cutting through society's cynicism and pessimism, Hot Chocolate for the Mystical Teenage Soul makes for a gift of love from parents to their adolescent children.
Foreword by Gotham Chopra
Customer Reviews:
The title is deceiving.......2002-02-22
I bought this book with the intention of giving my teenage niece something spiritually inspiring and interesting to read. She has many questions about spirituality and eternal life, and she loves the sensation of goose bumps on her neck. I wanted to reconcile these interests into something healthy for her soul and psyche. At first this book appeared to fit the bill nicely, touting its stories of "Angels, Miracles, and Healings," but the old cliché "never judge a book by its cover" holds true! Having read a few of the stories myself, I can only conclude that this is NOT the gift to give my impressionable and daring niece. While many are first or second hand accounts with angels and miracles, several others revolve around experiments in the occult (ouija boards, witchcraft rituals, etc.) that are not meant as cautionary tales. If this book is a gift for a teen in your life, you might want to think twice about buying it.
Common Ground Spiritually.......2001-12-24
What can you do when your teenager comes to you and asks about Spirituality? How do you answer their questions?
We are not experts on spirituality, though we do walk a very different path than others. Some of us are fortunate enough to have support at these trying time, through the elders of our covens.
But many of us do not, either because of choice or unavailability. So how do we answer our teenagers questions?
Hot Chocolate was so much fun to read. I found it to be as entertaining as it is thought provoking. And this makes it a great choice to offer a teenager. We all know how bored they can get so fast. This book is one I can honestly say I did not get the least bit bored with.
Hot Chocolate is a collection of personal experiences in small autobiographical format from people who have experienced, in one way or another, a personal spiritual touch or awakening. Most stories are told in the first person, and this makes it easy to relate to the story on a one to one level.
Each story is well written for the most part, and does not go over the head of the reader, nor are any of them so "way out" as to be unbelievable. But each story does provoke thought, questions and ideas. From the "spooky" stories to a biography of Joan of Arc to Vision Quests and Angels, each story relates personal experiences on a variety of spiritual paths.
As I read, I found myself contemplating the stories, looking at each of them as a basis for discussion between parent and teenager. What grand discussion some of these stories would make in an open forum with a group of teens, or, for that matter, a group of adults.
As a tool, this book would be of value to the average pagan parent seeking a "common ground" platform with which to discuss spirituality with their teenager. I would recommend it to parents following any spiritual path as a book to inspire as well providing good conversational material for themselves and their teenage.
Really fun and spooky stories that made me think!.......2001-01-22
Ever since I was really young I have been fascinated by the unexplainable. These stories were really cool to read and made me feel like I could finally understand some of the unusual things that happen in my life.
Charmless Imitation of the "Soup" Books.......2000-08-18
My mother got me this book as a gift...and it is a truly interesting idea for a book. This book lacks the charm of the "soup" books...most of the stories are drawn out from the one sentence in which they could be summarized. It seems as though Ford, in trying to solicit stories, accepted the first 101 and did not edit or improve any submissions at all. Some of the stories, granted, are interesting, engaging, and even a bit spooky. Unfortunately, the majority seem contrived and more the fare of late-night campfire chats or urban legends than genuinely inspiring stories of the "other side". In future editions of this book (which I am sure there will be), Ford could, should, and for her own integrity as a writer, must be more selective in choosing her stories. And.. just *perhaps* she could make the parody title a tiny, tiny bit less obvious.
Grandparents teenage children.......2000-07-08
I am priviledged to have 10 grandchildren 8 of whom are teenagers. Being a lover of books, I always read what I send to my family. These 101 stories are so interesting and diverse that I keep a copy in my home for young visitors. I think every grandparent and school should have a copy for all to read.
Book Description
With delectable stories by USA Today bestselling authors Suzanne Forster and Lori Foster-and national bestselling authors Elda Minger and Fayrene Preston-this popular anthology is sweet, steamy, and very satisfying.
Customer Reviews:
Everybody is Beautiful.......2006-07-07
Each character is perfect. The women are so loving and the men so caring that they pair up nicely in four sweltering short stories. They live in a fantasy world full of friendship, kindness, and romance. Life is wonderful; no major worries except whether they like and love each other but those never last long. Everybody earns some sort of good income. Everything comes to a faultless ending. Each story involves hot chocolate suitable to the title of the collection. It is a great read before going to bed.
Steaming hot..........2004-12-27
Decadent stories to warm you up on a cold winters night. Just the right amount of comedy and sexiness blended together for the right recipe for love.
"Warm and soothing, sweet and sensual, these luxurious love stories will melt your cares away, and fulfill your most delectable dreams..." the quote on the back of the book hits the mark.
These stories all share a love of chocolate and chemistry. Although the stories may seem short and rushed at times, we must remember, it is an anthology and many feel that way. Each story is a nice little break from the ordinary.
Hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. Lori Foster and Suzanne Forster deliver their best as always.
A bit too sweet.......2002-08-26
This collection of short stories is about women who share personal insecurities but decide to do something about it. The authors of this anthology take their main female characters and transform them from wallflowers into seductresses. The other thing these stories have in common is the use of chocolate as a plot device serving as some sort of key point in the story.
The sweetest story (no pun intended) of the group is Lori Foster's TANGLED SHEETS. Sophie Sheridan is a business owner who goes to the Winston Tavern every day after work for a cup of hot chocolate. She is attracted to bar owner Cole Winston and she is comfortable with their friendship. She would like to go one step further but she does not want to jeopardize what she already has with Cole. She pretends to have a twin sister named Shelly and she uses this alter ego to do the things that she wishes that she could do as Sophie. If things do not work out she can go back to her safe routine. Cole is intrigued and attracted to Shelly but he is in love with Sophie. He is a bit hesitant around Shelly but when he learns about Sophie's deception he will give her a Valentine's Day she will never forget. Nice and sweet stories for a rainy day.
Cute Compilation of Stories.......2002-01-30
"Hot Chocolate", a compilation of four short romance stories, all focus on one delectable drink to lure their characters together...hot chocolate. I know you must be wondering why I didn't give "Hot Chocolate" five stars. Here's why: Even though I enjoyed all of the stories, I feel that more could've been done with them. I understand that since they are short stories, they're...well...short, but I feel like the progression of the romances were way too rushed. It would've been nice to see the stories a little longer. I'm not saying that "Hot Chocolate" is a bad book, it isn't. In fact, it's very enjoyable. But it was just too short for my tastes. It would be nice to see these stories extended into a full novel one of these days. They are entertaining and it would be nice to explore these relationships a little more. If you DO enjoy short stories though, especially in compilations such as this, I suggest this book. It's got some steamy sex scenes that will be sure to keep you warm.
Hot Chocolate - with a dash of skim milk!!.......2001-05-26
Actually, half-and-half might be a more appropriate analogy for this quartet of love stories. The first two, by Suzanne Forster and Lori Foster, live up to their billing. The hilarious affair between secretary Abigail and unaware boss Max builds to a delicious climax featuring a striptease! And Lori Foster follows by introducing us to the Winston boys, specifically the eldest, Cole, who is seduced by Sophie twice, once as herself and once as her decadent twin sister. Wonderful characters, delightfully sensual settings - it can't get much better! And unfortunately, it doesn't. While the other two tales are sweet romances, they don't compare well with the crisp sparkle of the first two stories. The plots are bland, and the characters are almost too good to be true. It was worth buying this book for the first two tales, but the second two are a disappointment.

A good read on a rainy afternoon or when you are down...........2003-01-11
Just like the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series, I enjoyed these inspirational stories. It's a book I'll read over and over again when I need a lift.
Inspiring!.......2001-12-22
Love the stories . . . even the ones I wrote.
One of my favorite Bath -Tub-Books..........2001-10-31
When I am feeling overwhelmed with world news I take "Hot Chocolate for the Mystical Soul" with me into a hot bath tub and read story after story to relax.
Because each story is written by a different person, from many different beliefs, it is educational to see how others think. It is like peeking into their minds as I read the magic and mysteries that are unfolding in their lives.
heartwarming.......2000-04-22
This was a heartwarming book but because each story is written by a different person, many of them are poorly written, difficult to follow, or assume you have prior knowledge of specific aspects of certain relegions. While I truly enjoyed the book, it wasn't what i expected. A majority of the stories are based in relegions I have no experience with and meditation and may deal in areas not comfortable to those well seated in catholic or conservative christian denominations. However, if you have an open mind you will enjoy reading the stories contained in the book.
A GREAT COLLECTION OF INSPIRATION.......1999-10-12
give yourself the gift of reading these inspiring, enjoyable and enlightening stories. They fill your heart with love and comfort. I highly recommend this book for anyone who needs more love.

Kudos from a Contributor to Beat That.......2007-08-13
I contributed the recipe for orange buttermilk sherbet that is in "Beat That", Ann Hodgman's second volume of the very best recipes in existence (get vol. 1 "Beat This" as well). This is a cookbook you'll really cook out of and will tell all your friends about, not only because the recipes are great, but because she's also a hilarious writer. And in the hot dog days of summer, don't forget to make a batch of my fabulous orange buttermilk sherbet. You'll love it.
Beat That! Really is unbeatable........1998-10-20
How do we, as people who love practical and fun cookbooks, go about getting the first Hodgman cookbook, "Beat This!" back into print? It is a must for cooks who are serious about good food but not into creating new religions around spices and cuisines. "Beat That" is a continuation of the fun -- and Hodgman is the best of all possible cookbook writers, one who doesn't take herself seriously ALL the time. Actually, I want to BE Ann Hodgman.
Almost impossible to beat.......1998-09-29
What a shame Ann Hodgman's first cookbook, Beat This, is now out of print. Coupled with its newer sister, the duo would have made the perfect bridal shower gift for a dear friend. The recipies are great, and often feature unusual twists on old favorites, that really do make the recipies unbeatable. Equally as important, they do not involve esoteric ingredients, over complicated or fussy cooking techniques. Just plain good eating without unnecessary fuss.
Beat That! beats all - the best cookbook ever cooked up........1997-03-25
I have about a million cookbooks. Most of them sit forlornly on the shelf, like last year's Tickle Me Elmo, as they see "Beat That" (and its predecessor, "Beat This) used time and time again. Every time I see either of these cookbooks in a store, I buy it, knowing that I'm going to find someone to give it to - and that that person will subsequently be indebted to me forever for introducing them to such completely, wonderfully swoon-able food. YOU MUST BUY THIS COOKBOOK
Book Description
When cold winds blow and snow piles up on the windowsills, there is nothing more comforting than a steaming mug of hot chocolate or a soothing cup of tea. And haven't we all wished that we could make a coffee drink at home that rivals the brew from that expensive coffee shop on the corner? With the more than 50 recipes in Hot Drinks for Cold Nights, the perfect cup is always at your fingertips.
From teapots and strainers to espresso makers and hand-held blenders, author Liana Krissoff offers a review of the myriad machines and accessories available and describes the best methods and ingredients for making hot drinks. In each chapter, she presents a tempting array of recipes both classic and exotic, such as Orange-Scented Hot Chocolate, Green Tea Cappuccino, Lychee Black Tea with Cherry Wine, and Café Brûlot with Cinnamon Cream. The last chapter offers all manner of spirited hot drinks, with special tips on serving them to a crowd. Along the way are recipes for flavored whipped creams, sweeteners, and butters, as well as toothsome treats to serve with hot drinks, including Peppermint-Stuffed Marshmallows, Persimmon Tea Cake, and Spiced Candied Nuts.
This warmth-filled volume will help stave off winter's chill and keep you cozy the whole season long.
