Book Description

A shy Louisiana librarian, Mary Warner fears she'll always be alone—so she answers a personals ad from a rancher in Montana. Never before has she done anything so reckless, casting the only life she knows aside to travel to a strange place and marry a man she's never met. But something about this man calls to her—and she knows this may be her very last chance at happiness.

Tragedy made Travis Thompson the guardian of three orphaned children—and determination leads him to do whatever it takes to keep the kids out of foster homes. When he decides to take a long shot on a personals ad, the results are surprising, and before he knows it, he has agreed to marry a mysterious Southern woman sight unseen.

It could be the mistake of a lifetime. But Mary Warner may be exactly what this broken family needs. And with a little faith, a little trust, and a lot of love, two lonely hearts might just discover the true meaning of miracles.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible for Ms. Macomber.......2007-08-15

The characters in this book were largely two-dimensional and quite aggravating. The plot itself is a well-used but solid one - lonely single woman seeks new life with mail-order husband who is caregiver to darling orphans. However, this rendition of it is not satisfying. Travis is annoyingly stubborn, and Mary is nearly as bad. And, the fact that neither of them even think about birth control in this day and age (and their age!) is far-fetched as well. The obstacles in their relationship could have been overcome with one good conversation, with either party acting rationally.

I like other Macomber works (Dakota Born for example) but this book is not one of them.

4 out of 5 stars Morning Comes Softly.......2007-07-24

Now here is a book that could easily be made into a Hallmark channel movie! It was a very nice story with a very happy and satisfying ending. It was easy to get into, though not overly filled with excitement. There is a little "spice" here and there, but very tastefully done. This is an easygoing and relaxing novel to read with everything working out almost too good to be true... all kinds of warm fuzzies. You will giggle, maybe sniffle ever-so-slightly and get lots of warm fuzzies. It's a great nighttime read or a book for a lazy relaxing weekend.

4 out of 5 stars Mary, Plain and Small.......2007-06-05

You can't help but be reminded of `Sarah, Plain and Tall' when reading Debbie Macomber's novel; the main premise is very similar. A woman answers a newspaper advertisement placed by a rancher in need of a wife. In `Morning Comes Softly', however, the setting is present day Montana. Or, to be more accurate, Montana circa 1993, the year of this novel's first issue.

Mary Warner is a 32-year-old librarian, small of stature, big of heart. Alone now after the death of her mother, her feelings of loneliness are exacerbated when she reads Travis Thompson's newspaper advertisement. Travis has had some heartache of his own. His brother and sister-in-law have been killed in a suspicious car crash. Their three children are now in Travis's care, but he's having problems coping with his new responsibilities.

The opening chapters are particularly striking as Mary's loneliness is described in poignant detail. She yearns to be a wife and mother, but her perceived lack of beauty and slight build have badly dented her self-confidence. Meanwhile, the surly Travis spurns the local townswomen's offers of help, preferring to manage the children in his own way. With the threat of having the children taken into care hanging over him, Travis realizes that desperate action must be taken.

The anticipation that the author builds up ahead of the lead characters' eventual meeting makes for captivating reading - as does the rest of this novel. The story is certainly derivative, but that should not deter anyone who enjoys good romantic fiction from reading this book. There's plenty to enjoy here. There are some nice touches of humor and some very touching scenes too. A sub-plot involving Travis's desperate search to find the person responsible for his brother's death gives the novel some added depth.

5 out of 5 stars Warm and Enlightening .......2007-05-16

This was a last minute purchase for a airline trip which took way to long. I was depressed when I found myself finishing this book before my flight was over. I was captivated by the characters in this book and laughed so hard the people on the flight were wondering what I was doing in my seat. I would recommend this book for anyone who would love to smile and laugh along with feeling like they were there with Mary & Family. I can't wait to read it again.

5 out of 5 stars avid reader.......2007-05-14

This is one of my favorite Debbie Macomber books. My copy is on loan to a friend right now, but when I get it back, I plan to read it again. She is one of my favorite authors because she keeps the story moving along and writes about every day life and relationships.

5 out of 5 stars Joy comes in the morning.......2007-05-12

Excellent book. Very well written. A beautiful love story with a few twists and turns. Really enjoyed reading it.

5 out of 5 stars Clergy as "Humans".......2007-03-30

All too often, many of us have expectations from our clergy that are unrealistice. Although the are trained as spiritual leaders, they are, after all is said and done,-just human like the rest of us.
This novel explores how it feels to be a female, Reform Rabbi. If you would like to know what it is like to be in a position like that, this is a good book to read.
Many "issues" are dealt with-Mental illness, aging, dying, love, families, and spiritual crises. It was difficult to "put it down."

3 out of 5 stars Have a little faith in your reader, or yourself.......2006-09-09

Ugh. Nothing I hate more then an author who writes a lovely story and then spoils it at the end with some melodramatic twist that is not relevant to the plot and indicates a lack of faith in one's readers. It may represent the author's world view, but a book should be looked at as an entity with a personality of its own and diversions like the one in this book are silly. Perhaps its not just a recognition of the lack of faith in one's readers, its a lack of faith in the author's ability to hold our attention to the end. Silly.

Otherwise, a great book with very loveable and endearing characters.

3 out of 5 stars A Mixed Bag.......2006-04-07

I enjoyed the author's previous book very much. I 'd like to give this book a 3.5... I really enjoyed the first half of the book - the development of the characters, the writing, the storyline, etc. As someone involved in the Jewish community, I especially enjoyed the Jewish educational piece through the descriptions. as I got started I it really felt like a delightful read for my recent vacation. However, about 1/2 way through (why does this happen with so many books - both fiction and non-fiction!) As the book reached it storyline climax, I cared less about the characters than I did at the beginning. I no longer could believe what was going on.

All in all, I would share this book with friends, but would let them know to expect a book that has some really lovely Jewish parts, but has a mixed story line.

4 out of 5 stars searching to fit in.......2006-02-27

At first I did not think i would like this book.
Because it was very one dimensionally. It felt like I was at first reading a beach read. Some of the events in the book were very quirky, 20-30 somethings. But than I started to relate to what she was going through. She a jew who wanted to become more observant and did not know where she fit in.
Myself, I am in my 40's. I have had a problem since I am just learning about my roots. Even though I was brought up jewish there are things I am torn between the secular world and the jewish.
Even though this is fiction. The book put it in prospective. Especially when you don't know where you fit in. Not so much for the literal form, but that the author knew where I was coming from.
If you like reading a quirky beach romance this is for you. BEWARE
Just like the previous reviewers have said, if you love the book like I had you will be passing it on

Book Description

Her relationship with fiancé Paul Waddell in tatters, Hannah Lapp has fled her secluded Old Order Amish community in hopes of finding a new home in Ohio with her shunned aunt. Hampered by limited education and hiding her true identity, Hannah struggles to navigate the confusing world of the Englischers.

Back in Owl’s Perch, Pennsylvania, Paul is wracked with regret over his treatment of Hannah. Fearing for her safety, he tries to convince Hannah’s remaining allies–brother Luke, best friend Mary, and loyal Matthew Esh–to help search for his love. Hannah’s father, however, remains steadfastly convinced of her sinful behavior. His blindness to his family’s pain extends to her sister, Sarah, who shows signs of increasing instability.

Convinced her former life is irreparably destroyed, Hannah finds purpose and solace in life with her aunt and in a growing friendship with Englischer Martin Palmer. Will the countless opportunities in her new life persuade Hannah that her place is amongst the Englischers — or will she give in to her heart’s call to return home and face her past?

5 out of 5 stars When the Morning Comes.......2007-10-05

I anxiously read When the Morning Comes after reading the first book in this series, When the Heart Cries! In When the Morning Comes I once again felt as if I was right there suffering along with Hannah Lapp while she struggled to live a life among the English after leaving her Amish heritage and Mennonite beau behind. When the Morning Comes ended in suspense, with Hannah Lapp needing to return to her Amish home and I am very impatiently looking forward to book three in this series to see if Hannah will stay with her Amish faith or if she will return to the English people that she left behind.

5 out of 5 stars Great story.......2007-09-27

Cindy Woodsmall is a great author. I've read When the Heart Cries and When the Morning Comes. I hope there is a sequel to these books.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Her first and definately not her best........2007-04-25

The author has definitely improved as a writer since she wrote this one. This is about Ben Joe and his family. Ben Joe is attending college in NY. He is studying to be a lawyer at Columbia. After learning one of his sister's has left her husband and moved back home, he feels compelled to go home for a visit right in the middle of a semester. Home is Sandhill, NC. The family of 6 girls and 1 boy (Ben Joe), Mom and Grandma, is quirky at best. Some of the interactions amongst characters in this book are just silly (for a lack of a better word). To me, this wasn't really a story that had a nice beginning and a happy, or at least concluded end. It was more like a picture in time that ended abruptly. Tyler has definitely developed as a writer, she is one of my favorites. I am glad I had the opportunity to read this book. It just isn't one of her best.

5 out of 5 stars Phenomenal Descriptions.......2007-04-05

Tyler's first published novel is full of wonderful details that will make you see exactly what she wants you to see.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2007-03-02

Is there a better author alive today? I can't think of one. You can go look at the back cover and it'll seem so simple. But it's not. It never is. Anne Tyler is a phenomenally talented observer who makes you observe exactly what she does. Her writing is life. She's also so adept with language that you hardly notice. Readers all over the world probably think, "If I were a writer, this is what I'd want to write." Hey, I think that myself, and I've got five published titles to my name. She is that good. And while she'll never be on anybody's list of humorists, she makes me laugh at our foibles better than any "comic" ever will. And to think this was the first of her books to ever be published, long before she won the Pulitzer and long before she had 15 titles to her credit. Most of the others are on my shelf unread, so you already know who I'll be reviewing next week.

3 out of 5 stars promise of the future.......2006-10-23

I've enjoyed many Anne Tyler books and am now backtracking to her earlier works. I could only recommend "If Morning Ever Comes" if you are a fan, and are curious. This was her first book written in 1964 and Ms. Tyler has stated in re-reading it, her surprise it was ever published. I concur, as it moves along slower than anything I can ever remember reading, but does show some of the promise we find in her later epics. If you want to check out her best, you might try; The Accidental Tourist, Saint Maybe, Ladder of Years, or The Amatuer Marriage.

3 out of 5 stars Anne Tyler's first book.......2005-12-09

This is Anne Tyler's first novel (one she has disowned), and it definitely shows. Ben Joe Hawkes is a law student from North Carolina who is attending law school in NYC. He misses home and decides to return there for a visit. Home consists of six sisters, his mother, and his grandmother.

We get lots of talk about past incidents, mostly of unusual doings (running off with salesmen, for example) that nobody seems to take too seriously. The book is fairly disjointed (in one scene a drunken soldier appears out of nowhere on their front lawn playing a bagpipe) and filled with lots of talk, much of it not very interesting. Much better work was to follow.

Book Description

A reissue of a classic American novel, with an introduction by Kurt Vonnegut, Nelson Algren's second novel, originally published in 1942, tells the story of Bruno Bicek, a tough from Chicago's Northwest Side, and Steffi, the woman who shares his dream while living his nightmare. "An unusual book and a brilliant book." -- The New York Times

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Frank and Brutal with a sense of Deja-Vu.......2007-08-15

Bruno 'Lefty' Bicek is a Polak on the Polak side of Division Street. He has day dreams of being admired; a hero in baseball or boxing. He daydreams of beating cheating opponents by playing clean; winning through skill alone. And he has his girl, Steffi R.
But with corruption everywhere, the police able to pick up and put away on a whim, and the need to be 'regular' with the gang members sees Lefty end up as all Division Street hoods do. Life beat out of them, dreams staying daydreams. Lefty loses his soul when he does nothing to stop Steffi being gang raped by the guys.He needed to keep 'regular'.

As ever, Algren never sanatises or justifies or explains. Its just written how it is, and 'Never Come Morning' is perhaps his most frank portrayal. It has few-if any-of the humour that creeps in his other novels.

Having read 'The Man With The Golden Arm', 'Walk on the Wild Side' 'Neon Wilderness' and now 'Never Come Morning' I know two things. First, Algren is a remarkable and socially observent writter. Second, he basically just writes the same story over and over with slightly different takes; from slightly different angles.
All the same things were present in 'Never Come..' as in the other Algrens I've read. The line up;Lefty's reasoning to the Captain as to why his gang had shaved heads came from a short story in 'Neon Wilderness' the heists are slight variations, the boxing accounts are the same etc etc.
This doesn't make Algren anything other than what he is-a great (Thomas Wolfe just wrote 'Look Homeward Angel' over and over again with slight variations and nobody disputes his greatness) it just means that his scope is limited, and 'Neon Wilderness' would perhaps be all you ever need to read to get the whole Algren repartee.
But for all that-and even though Algrens Chicago is long since dead-this is great reading

5 out of 5 stars Gritty americana from a forgotten master.......2006-12-02

Never come morning is a exquisite novel of pain and dark urban reality. What makes Algren a better writer than so many others who work in this mileiu is that he doesn't moralize or create one-dimensional heroes. His characters pull you in because they have the complexity and tragic failings of real people. The imagery walks the line between the surreal and the actual, dreams interwoven with the brutal waking reality of inner-city poverty. This book alone puts Algren, who never got much fame and certainly not fortune for his work, on the map of great American writers.

2 out of 5 stars Gritty, but hollow novel about a thug and his life.........2004-08-31

From previous reviews, I got the idea that "Never come Morning" would be gritty, and a masterpiece. Well, that's not the case. It is quite gritty, with EVERYONE a crook, from a Polish barber who is also a pimp, from the one-eyed police detective. The story follows Bruno, a thug who dreams of well..being the Great White Hope. Of course, we know he's a thug, and will always be nothing but a thug. Bruno and his thuggish friends talk in a Chicago dialect that grates on your nerves. Algren is not Mark Twain, so it further alienates the reader when you want to hear English you can recognize. I felt zero sypathy for Bruno's predicament, and I felt sick that Steffi would see anything in this character.

5 out of 5 stars Catcher In The Rye for the rest of us.......2003-10-12

I noticed in another customer review of this book that two key pieces of plot information are provided in the review itself. That is something no reviewer should ever do. Don't let that blemish keep you from buying this remarkable book. Never Come Morning is one of the finest novels you will ever read. This is Catcher In The Rye for the rest of us, for everyone who grew up more worldy than Holden Caufield.

Algren opens a window on Chicago's ethnic, inner city streets. The sights, sounds, smells, words and music of Chicago in the late 1940's are right there in front of you. He then points his highly accurate lens on his character's hearts, minds, concerns, fears, worries, struggles, hopes & dreams.

Never Come Morning is a lyrical, poetic work of fiction that's nonetheless so realistic it could have been yanked straight from the headlines of any city's newspapers, in any era, from the 1940's straight through to 2004. The novel describes the lives of several teenagers living on Chicago's Near Northwest side, in the late 1940's. It is realistic yet never exploitive, heart-wrenching yet never heavy handed.

Those familar with Chicago neighborhoods will delight in seeing The Triangle, Riverview, Humboldt Park, Division Street, Chicago Avenue, Western Avenue, Milwaukee Avenue, Oak Street Beach and Logan Square referenced in print. As El trains fly overhead - some down tracks still with us and some down tracks long-gone - you will be astounded at how well this writer has captured the Chicago of your youth.

Those familar with Chicago characters like the ones in this novel (Bruno Bicek, Steffi Rostenkowski, Catfoot Nowagrodski, Fingers Idzikowski, Fireball Kodadek, Bibleback Watrobinski, Casey Benkowski, Momma Tomek and The Barber) will have to put the book down and take a walk outside. The memories that come flooding back will be too STRONG, and too REAL.

Anyone who's lived in a neighborhood where kids run the nighttime streets, anyone who's ever hung out on a corner, tossed dice against a warehouse wall, walked a freight yard, played ball for a Park District League, been to Riverview, swam at Oak Street or dated a girl from the neighborhood will be shocked from the sheer force of recognition this amazing novel provides.

Yet even those who've never set foot in Chicago will be spellbound by this remarkable, poetic novel about tough kids growing up under tough conditions in a tough town. A must read for anyone interested in American Realism, and/or fiction carved from real life.

5 out of 5 stars Dark and gritty. A work of transition........2000-10-07

Bruno Bicek and Steffi R. have dreams beyond the reality of their Chicago existence and the nightmarish control of the Barber, Bonifacy Konstantine. Bruno Bicek is a boxing contender and Steffi R. is the girlfriend he let be gang-raped. The Barber knows this and that Bruno Bicek has murdered one of the gang. The Barber has Steffi R. in his grasp and has no intention of letting her go. Bruno Bicek feels sure of his chances and intends taking her from him. But the Barber holds all the cards and, for Bruno Bicek and Steffi R. there will be no bright morning.

Never Come Morning has its moments: the fight scenes at the start and end of the book; the scenes in which the characters consider their lives, in a style that will be made much use of in The Man with the Golden Arm. Everything else is dark and gritty, but is not especially effective within the story because of its apparent inclusion for the sake of something anecdotal in order to flesh out the characters' traits and thoughts. In addition, Nelson Algren makes reading this book a chore like he did with The Man with the Golden Arm, by having rapid changes of viewpoint in scenes with a multiplicity of characters. This would have been quite benign given a more omniscient writing style like Fritz Leiber's, but is very distracting here.

Nevertheless, Never Come Morning is engaging, and, taken in overview, is a very satisfactory read, which demonstrates the power in Nelson Algren's writing. A power that in subsequent works, grows and grows.

    3 out of 5 stars Light-hearted, fun romance.......2007-05-31

I decided to check out my first Shannon Drake novel, COME THE MORNING. I enjoy gripping plotting, history and political intrigue with the romance, and I thought COME THE MORNING fit the bill. Not so much though, the tempestuous romance in the first part was fun, and there's some intrigue but nothing substantive. COME THE MORNING doesn't do a good job with settings either. Drake has a tendency to veer off into some historical discourse for pages on end which doesn't seem relevant to the story at all, and unfortunately, she does it often. She doesn't really make the historical backdrop mesh with her story and romance all that well and often times, we find belabored essays on various histories or genealogies. Having strong Scottish roots herself, author Shannon Drake's love for Scotland is evident. The light-hearted romance is fun though, and unlike other books I've read, COME THE MORNING heroine's scathing, belligerent attitude towards our hero was actually enjoyable.

    The Story.

Heroine Mellyora MacAdin, Lady of the beatific and verdant Blue Isle, has just lost her laird father to death. King David of Scotland summons her and his champion Laird Waryk de Graham to Stirling for plans of his own during a tumultuous time when Scotland's borders are in conflict from England down south and the Vikings to the north. Unbeknown to either Mellyora or Waryk, King David plans to arrange their marriage to solidify Blue Isle during a time of conflict. Mellyora seethes and resents giving her home to a complete stranger and attempts numerous escapes only to have Waryk capture her time and time again.

The story with Mellyora & Waryk's rather tempestuous encounters is rather fun. There's some intrigue and fighting in the second half.

The story is rather light-hearted and overall, not bad at all. I may check out some other books by Shannon Drake in the future.

4 out of 5 stars Close to 5 star, but a bit too much info at times........2006-03-05

This was a terrific story. Realistic battles, several great characters, drama, romance, excitement, and triumph.

Waryk de Graham is a young fledgling warrior. He enters his very first battle at his father's side. When he awakens from an injury to his head, he finds his father lying dead beside him. The rest of his family lies dead as well. He is the last of the Graham name. Filled with rage, he pulls himself from the ground, grabs his father's sword, and runs to attack his enemies in surprise. He manages to kill most of them, as King David arrives with troops to help. David sees that Waryk has the potential to be a great champion. He knights Waryk there on the battle field. Waryk is now Sir Waryk de Graham, Laird Lion. He pledges his life to David's service, determined at the same time to use his father's sword to bring down the rest of his enemies.

Years later, with his father's sword in hand, Waryk has earned his king's respect. King David decides to reward Waryk by giving him a vast estate, complete with a beautiful heiress for his bride.

Mellyora MacAdin is the daughter of a former Viking warlord. Her father, Laird Adin, had long ago changed his ways and become one of King David's loyal lairds. However, he raises his daughter in the Viking tradition of teaching women to battle along with their men. Mellyora is a woman who can handle a sword against men who would attack her, her home, or her people.
When Laird Adin dies suddenly, his daughter travels to David's court in hopes of keeping her father's land, known as Blue Isle. David has already decided that Mellyora will marry Waryk, making certain that her Viking relatives can not seize the property. Mellyora escapes from the king's castle. She decides to run to her uncle's camp and ask him to help her keep Blue Isle long enough to convince the king that she is capable of defending it without a husband. While running through the forest at night, a man grabs her and questions her. When he discovers she is running from his king, Waryk makes a plan to bring her back to the castle. In the midst of his plan, he discovers that she is the woman intended to be his bride.

Over the next weeks, Mellyora and Waryk battle for control of her land and life. When the king makes it clear that he will give Blue Isle to Waryk, with or without marriage, Mellyora had no choice but to agree to marry him. Now they must work together to save Blue Isle and it's people from a secret enemy, the son of one of the men Waryk killed as a boy. This enemy, Ulric Hallsteader is determined to take Waryk's wife and land. He finds ways to attack while disguising himself as Mellyora's uncle, Daro of the Vikings. If he can cause war between Waryk and Daro, he can weaken them both. This will open Blue Isle for attack.

There were numerous terrific characters in this story. They made a truly magnificent tale. There are many men and women to root for, and plenty to fear. This keeps the story exciting and it makes putting the book down very difficult. (Hence the dark circles under my eyes after reading into the early hours of the morning.) The romances that develop are gripping and deep. While reading, you feel the joy, frustration, fear, and determination of the characters as if you were living it yourself. This is a characteristic that makes the difference between a good story and an excellent story.

My only disappointment was the fact that there were several pages of unnecessary history and background. I found myself skimming through these paragraphs to get back to the plot. However, the story was enthralling enough to make up for it.

5 out of 5 stars Favorite Drake Novel.......2006-01-05

This is the first and the best Shannon Drake romance novel I have read thus far. Both of the main characters, Mellyora and Waryk are passionate and well rounded characters. The backdrop of Scotland and the feudal lord system works well with the main plot. It is a truly believable love story.

5 out of 5 stars Come the Morning.......2005-08-16

Very strong hero. He is controling and caring at the same time.
It's great to read the begining of the Grahams. Shannon Drake is a very captivating writer.

5 out of 5 stars Drake is the best!!.......2005-03-05

This was one of the first drake novel I read, and it made me a lifelong fan of Drake. Though not the best one she has written, it is a very good read.

    5 out of 5 stars A "must read" book.......2004-04-16

Being a senior citizen and an avid reader all of my life, I can unequivocally say that "If Morning Never Comes" is one of the greatest books I have ever read.

At a time when many young men were busy growing pony tails, fleeing to Canada, and staging protests, young 18-year-old Bill volunteered to serve in the unpopular Vietnam war. This decision altered his life forever. The way he portrays his experiences is both heart wrenching and heart warming.

The fact that Bill survived his massive injuries is unbelievable. His tale of what drove him to both survive and rehabilitate himself against all odds is amazing. This is a poignant, wonderfully written and awe-inspiring piece of work. I hope his book is a huge success----he deserves it!

4 out of 5 stars If Morning Never Comes.......2003-10-31

This story of Bill's near death experience in Vietnam is an interesting melding of spirituality and the ravages of WAR. What a goose bump raising story! I have known Bill for many years and was no less enraptured with his words than I was tthe first time he shared the story with me. It should be required reading for anyone going to war, the families of those going to War, but most importantly for those politicians who have never been to War, but are very willing to send someone elses daughter or son. Write on Bill!

5 out of 5 stars If Morning Never Comes.......2003-10-30

If you lived through the era of the Vietnam War you can relate to this book. I enjoyed the way VandenBush just told it the way it was. To many Vietnam stories are loaded with hyped up garbage. This book is straight forward and a joy to read. I hope he follows up with another one.

3 out of 5 stars A Very Typical DP Book!.......2005-05-17

The storyline of this book looks like a quilt made up of some of the other classical DP's books like Now & Forever, the Diamond Girl, & the Champaigne Girl.... (The hero keeps the heroine in an emotional limbo right up until the end of the book....) It seems to be a good book for a day of relaxation(, but not a spectacularly good one of DP's)....

5 out of 5 stars This book is on my top ten list!!!.......2003-11-17

I absoluetly love this book. The first time that I read this book was about 15 years ago and I have read it every year since then. The chemistry between Blake and Kathryn Mary was great. However, the character that I liked best was Phillip. He was funny, witty, and he kept the lively. I would definetly recommend this book.

4 out of 5 stars One of My Very Favorites.......2001-10-10

I have read this book, and I must say that there are very few romance books in which I have enjoyed more. The relationship between Katherine and Blake was so passionate. The book kept me entertained, and left me feeling satisfied at the end. I absolutely loved the ending of the book. Unfortunately, I have lost the book, and I am having a very difficult time finding a book store that has it in stock. However, it is one book that I have read again and again. I hope to find it again so I can continue to do so.

4 out of 5 stars My first Diana Palmer.......2000-09-29

I was given this book by a friend. I had never read Diana Palmer before. This book got me hooked. A good escape book.

    1 out of 5 stars Very Irritating.......2000-06-22

The beginning of the book was slow and it continued through the whole book. The heroine was weak and very childish. The hero was deliberately annoying to her and immature. He was also a control freak. They never agreed on anything (out loud) and they never had any serious conversations long enough to learn about each other. The reader knew the characters but the characters didn't know each other.
