Heat Transfer review.......2007-01-04
It is what I expected. Heat Transfer all in one reference.
Book Description
Starting from the premise that successful students are not necessarily any more brilliant than their less successful peers, but have simply mastered the art of efficient learning, Adam Robinson introduces high school and college students to an innovative approach that can help them achieve top grades while discovering the joy of true learning.

Customer Reviews:
You are your own best teacher!.......2007-09-11
The main point of this amazing book is that you will teach yourself best, not an instructor in high school or college, a tutor, your mom, your boss, your spouse, your best friend, but the person who knows when you get tired, when you are hungry, when you are cranky--yourself! That can be a very important lesson. You are in control of what you learn. Granted you are going to need other people to show you and talk you through learning, but teaching yourself is empowering.
The other smart student principles and key lists are also very thought provoking and essentially highlight how school at all levels is a game. But it is a game worth playing.
I think a lot of the reviewers are forgetting that Mr. Robinson has mentioned that What Smart Students Know is to use what works best for them. He demonstrates a note-taking method that works for him, but if it doesn't work for you throw it out and teach yourself one that works. My advice would be that each situation (class, job etc.) might cause you to modify your note-taking. For example, for some of my classes I would take notes in a paper notebook and then type them before each test and have about 6 pages to review. For other classes there would be no need to type my notes because I would be typing a review sheet. For other classes such as my Italian language class I NEVER took notes.
One of the many great morals of this book is find out what works for you and use it. Don't worry about what everyone else is doing or about what the "experts" say. Be your own expert. There is a very popular note-taking method "Cambridge" by name which involves making two columns and filling in matching information from class notes and text books. This method never worked for me no matter how many times I tried it. So what--throw it out. Use what works.
I found what works for me and stopped worrying about what all the experts said because Adam Robinson's book game me the courage to play the Smart Student game. I was always angry that school seemed to focus on everything but learning, which is what I wanted to do most. But I learned how to play so that I could maximize my learning and my grades! I graduated magna cum laude, a member of 4 honor societies (including Phi Beta Kappa), and won the award for most outstanding undergraduate in the History Department at my University.
Free your mind; read What Smart Students Know. Keep in mind you decide what is hogwash and what is inspired. Then use it and be happy.
Look at other books.......2007-07-01
This book has only a few basic ideas. The author says the same things over and over again in different ways. He uses many tricks to fill up space and waste your time. Take my word for it, look into the other books.
Parents, help out your high schoolers with this book.......2007-05-23
In most schools, textbooks are a given. History is taught from a textbook, science is taught from a textbook, as are most other subjects. The problem with most textbooks is that they are usually dull, often poorly written, and difficult to read. Presenting only one point of view, they don't give the big picture.
Adam Robinson, who has been empowering students with his standardized test-taking strategies for 25 years, brings us the book What Smart Students Know. He is quick to say that a 100% textbook approach to learning a subject is not ideal; in fact, despite the fact that most of us would consider him a genius, he himself had no interest in school. But he was very good at playing the game, earning top scores, and in the end, gaining satisfaction from learning how to learn.
In this book, Robinson speaks right to students, explaining how to maximize learning. He tells how to how to get interested in the text you are assigned, how to take charge of your own learning, and how to learn more from a textbook in a shorter period of time. He tells us where to start if you really don't understand a topic, and how to decide what information is important. His premise is that anyone can learn to be a smart student.
This book is an insightful look into how top students approach learning. I was one of the top students in my graduating class in college, and unconsciously used many of the techniques that Robinson recommends. When I was a tutor to other college students, I would show them how to ask themselves questions before reading the test, how to outline the material, and how to memorize through mnemonics, but this book goes way beyond that.
In "What Smart Students Know," Robinson gives us twelve questions to ask ourselves when studying any subject. Questions include "What's the big picture here?" "How can I organize this information?" There is a chapter dedicated to each of the twelve questions.
Even if your student is already a hard-working, high-scoring student, he or she will benefit from Robinson's work. They will be able to study in less time and with less stress.
If your teen has a difficult time reading and understanding the assigned textbooks at school, step in and help him. Read one chapter at a time and show your student how to apply the techniques. Help your student replace ineffective habits with these super-charged learning habits, and I'll bet you pick up some learning techniques along the way, too.
Every student needs this book..........2007-02-19
...whether they get A's or not.
I've never been a "good student", but I've always liked school and been intelligent. I would get very frustrated seeing less intelligent people get straight A's while I was struggling to pass classes. Last semester I got this book, and already I'm doing better in school that ever before. I don't do everything the book suggests, but I keep the organization techniques in mind, and I make sure that I have multiple sources for every class (one of the tips that has helped alot). I have recommended this to all my friends who say they want to do better in school.
Now graduate school doesn't look so frightening.
-Breann Burton, Physics major
I learned from this book and I am Graduate School .......2007-01-27
If you want to excel in school- you want to read this book. This book is written with amazing techniques. If you read it from cover to cover than you will excel in school. Someone like myself that has a learning disability I was able to improve my learning techniques that helped me achieve a 3.5 GPA from a 2.1 GPA. I learned stuff in this book that I nevered learned in high school or my undergraduate school. I am preparing to homeschool my daughter and this book will be utilized throughout her coursework. Easy to read, which means easy to understand and easy to apply the techniques. I wish I had this book back in grade school than I think I would't have struggled as much in high school or college. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to excel in school and succeed in life.

A great refresher!.......2007-07-10
I suggest this read to anyone who is serious about stuyding and wants to earn A's. Although it's a lot of work if you follow the book's suggestions I can't see how anyone could not get great grades!
Study Power? Sudy Skills to Improve Your Learning and Your Grades.......2006-06-27
The content and writing style of this book are more appropriate to the high school or college student. The book probably would not motivate a younger reader...too serious and too general.
Not worth the time!.......2004-12-27
This book is rather brief. This book is like a brief assortment of topics.
It didn't help me much. For time management (which possibly is the greatest skill that any student must master), the authors just mention very briefly.
Similar to the book, SURVEY OF 300 A+ STUDENTS.......2002-10-13
This book is similar to the book, SURVEY OF 300 A+ STUDENTS: A+ STUDENTS DESCRIBE THEIR ACADEMIC STRATEGIES, by Kenneth Green (from Harvard). However, I think that Kenneth Green's book is more comprehensive and gives the information in a chronological order, which makes it a smoother read.
Annoying typography.......2002-09-14
My 2 star rating is based entirely on the typography used for the book. As you can see in the sample pages, a font was chosen which is sort of vertically stretched and horizontally smooshed. I find it rather uncomfortable to read. Your opinion may vary, but it makes me want to avoid spending much time reading the text.
What I have read, though, looks useful.

Somewhat informative book for version Act! 2004.......2006-03-17
I didn't learn too much from this book as I have been using Act! 2004 for a couple years now and have already stumbled across most of the features I need to know. It would be good book for a novice to buy. It is written well and has a user-friendly format.
A book on Act 2000.......2005-09-14
I had been using Act 2000 for a long time, and this year I purchased Act 2005. If you are an Act 2000 fan, it is for you. But the many new options, interface (and bugs) of Act 2005 made this book outdated.
Great book for on-the-spot answers.......2005-03-19
If you, or many people in your organization, use ACT! day-to-day, for general contact management (but you're not trying to "split the atom" with it), than this book is a great, general purpose go-to book for quick, simple, straight-forward answers.
Easy to use, well-written, nice screen caps. There is, however, very little information in here about more advanced items (such as using the ACT! developer API/SDK).
Act and how to use it.......2001-11-27
Having purchased a copy of this book I was quickly able to undertand how the software could be made to work for me. My sales team all have a copy and this has lead to the team having an increase in sales and productivty by 25%. This book will help everyone do everything with Act.
Book Description
Test of Time is a captivating time-travel adventure that incorporates vocabulary words from the SAT and ACT, boldfacing them throughout the novel and providing definitions in a handy back-of-the book glossary. The result is a fun and effective study method for the thousands of diligent students who take these tests each year.
For Orlando Garcia Ortiz and his friends at prestigious Hadleyburg University, it's finals week. That same week, but many, many years before, a famously eccentric writer in Hartford, Connecticut, is putting the finishing touches on a manuscript about a rebellious boy named Huck. Suddenly, a bizarre thing happens: The manuscript disappears and in its place appears a strange contraption-a college student's laptop that has traveled through time. It's a mysterious set of circumstances, but our intrepid heroes at Hadleyburg, joined by Mark Twain, endeavor to retrieve their valued possessions and return to their proper places in time.
Customer Reviews:
Very good resource for SAT/ACT prep.......2007-01-03
My 12-year-old son read this book along with another vocabulary-building novel prior to taking the ACT for a regional talent search. He actually liked the story and was able to name and discuss new words from the text. I think this would be good for any test prep that requires vocabulary including the GRE. This is not a waste of money.
Very enjoyable but disappointing ending.......2006-11-02
I am an SAT tutor and have found this book and others like it valuable to my students. Charles Harrington Elster is a master of his craft; unlike some other books of this type, his vocabulary and grammar are impeccable.* As a result, this book is very well written. What a great idea for a book-- Mark Twain in 21st century college America. Test of Time is informative and entertaining. Its ending is a bit sudden and far-fetched, though.
*Believe it or not, there are SAT vocab-building books that have poor definitions.
Book Description
To improve study skills, the authors concluded management of students' time is critical along with the motivation to improve their grades. The other keys to maximizing study time involve three main functions: input, the actions performed to enter information in your brain; process, the acts executed to process the information once it is in your brain; and output, the ways you retrieve and organize information from your brain. Most students stress the outputs -tests & reports- and ignore input and process functions.
In this workbook, based on the text Study Power, the authors elaborate the study skills presented under these three functions. Students learn such input skills as listening, note taking, and study reading; process skills such as self and time management, learning and memory, concentration, daily review and test preparation; and output skills such as test taking, report writing, and oral reports. Since class participation is a critical place for learning, it appears in each function.
The workbook adds more detailed explanations, rating scales and forms for mastering the study skills, checklists to ensure the student has prepared properly, knows the procedures in each skill and exercises that allow him/her to practice the skills in current classwork.
Along with the Study Power text, the Study Power Workbook is a powerful study skills resource.
Customer Reviews:
A MUST for any Student!!.......2000-11-09
I bought this workbook to go along with the Book Study Power: Study Skills to Improve Your Learning and Your Grades. This workbook has been extremely helpful in helping me study and definatly improving my comprehenstion of the materials I am learning in School. Not only does this workbook help you LEARN the study skills taught in Study Power the book, but I have also made many photocopies of their Checklist, Listening Evaluations(to be used after a class), and Comprehension Matrix to be used while/with my regular classes. In Study Power the Book and Workbook, they cover: Part A: Input, which covers Chapter 1 Listening, Chapter 2 Note taking, Chapter 3 Study Reading, Chapeter 4 Class Participation as Input. Part B: Chapter 5 Managing Yourself, Chapter Managing Time, Chapter 7 Concetration, Chapter 8 Managing your Learning, Chapter 9 Managing your memory, Chapter 10 Class Participation as a Process Skill, Chapter 11 Test Peparation. Part C: Chapter 12 Test Taking, Chapter 13 Test Anxiety, Chapter 14 Test Taking, Chapter 15 Papers adn Written Reports, Chapter 16 Oral Reports, Chapter 17 Class Participation as Output. This sounds like alot, but really it isn't. The book was an excelent read, and there was not a boring moment, and as for this workbook, it was easy to follow and had additional information the Book did not. Also, it has many exercises to help you learn there method and will come in handy the rest of your student career. Have Fun, and Hustle!!!
Book Description
This book shows how to assess market opportunities. Building on lessons learned by studying numerous entrepreneurs, the book details the author's seven domains model for assessing new business ideas. The model is comprised of four market and industry domains and three related to the entrepreneurial team. These seven domains address the central questions in the assessment of any market opportunity: Are the market and industry attractive? Does the opportunity offer compelling customer benefits as well as distinct advantage over other solutions to the customer's needs? Can the team deliver the results they seek and promise to others? The book is practical and sets out how to run a customer-driven feasibility study that will guide the assessment of any new business idea or opportunity before any investment or time has been spent on the project.

Great book for testing your idea. .......2006-03-21
This book is the best of the business books I reviewed for ideas on how to help approach the research and analysis for my business idea. It's more aimed at folks with business ideas that are geared to being large scale enterprises rather than a small individual proprietiorship . This book is the best of the business books I reviewed for ideas on how to help approach the research and analysis for my business idea. It's more aimed at folks with business ideas that are geared to being large scale enterprises rather than a small individual proprietorship. Most of the "How to write a business plan" books are worthless. You can find the same information on the Internet for free - try the SBA website. This provides a nice structure for analysis outside those cookie-cutter books.
A Must Read before plunging into an Entrepreneurial lifestyl.......2005-03-24
Everyone likes their own ideas and everyone believes that their own ideas are fool-proof. There's no way to check and grind your idea/business plan before going to actual VCs. Till now the only way to analyze your idea was by going through the 3Fs (Famliy, Friends and Fools).
Here is where 'The New Business Road Test' comes in as a savior. This book has all the ideas/ procedures/ questions/ & guidelines to review and grill your idea to perfection before plunging into the real venture. There are many books out there to tell you HOW to write a business plan, but none to actually analyze your business plan.
The presentation of the book is quite simple to understand and refer to in future. The 'Seven Domain Analysis' diagram really makes it simple to review any idea/plan and term it as feasible or not-feasible.
I read the book before going into my first venture and it made me look at my business plan in a whole different way. I was not only able to identify the loop holes but also the ways i could improve my business plans. Even today while I am lookin at a new venture, I find myself always going back and refering to this book.
Once Read, this book will make a place in your entrepreneurial life. This is a must-read book for entrepreneurs as well as VC aspirants.
For the novice and expert alike...........2004-11-10
Having launched several major ventures over the past decades, I have learned that careful advance planning and analysis cannot be over-emphasized. Through the years, I have struggled to develop a robust framework to analyze opportunities before investing time and money.
Mullins has beaten me to the task. Full of frameworks and anecdotes, theory and practice. Thorough, logical, insightful, and easy to follow. An excellent roadmap for the novice and expert alike. My three copies are already dog-eared.
the New Business Road Test.......2004-11-08
As an aspiring entrepreneur you are so convinced that your great idea will work that you want to go straight to the business plan. This book gives you the framework and discipline to force yourself to cut your emotional ties with your idea and pick it apart. If your idea still stands after having gone through the rigorous scrutiny described in the book then you have a very strong foundation for taking your idea to the next stage.
An excellent book that I strongly recommend to anybody who has a great idea for a new business, product or service regardless of whether as an entrepreneur or business executive

Another Dragonlance masterpeice!.......2007-10-06
Ever since my bf introduced me to Dragonlance I have been reading them non stop. These 3 books are awesome! They really are very action packed and make you sit back and go WOW. I didnt get sad with these 3 books at all I was more sucked in and sometimes got so outraged by the actions of some of the evil people (you know who Im talking about) These are a must read.
Everything good fantasy should be.......2001-10-18
It is almost impossible to describe how wonderful this book is. There is nothing about it that is not absolutly perfect. It is absolutly incredible what Margaret Weis and Tracy HIckman have written. I wish I could sit here and type out the whole plot, but unfortunatly, I can't. But I will say this. The characters are beyond belife. Anybody who didn't worship Raistlin before will now. He is most definatly the greatest fantasy character ever written. Crysania is good too, especially in Test of the Twins. Dalamar Nightson, Raistlin's apprentice, is one of the better characters, and is part of why this trilogy is so incredible. No one has ever written anythig close to this. Everyone should read this book, it is so wonderful. Personnaly, I've read it so many time I can almost recite it, and it never gets worse. Please, for the love of Raistlin, BUY THIS BOOK.
Do not buy these books!.......2000-05-20
Off limits! Never buy these wonderful adventures. If you do, you will ever after be disappointed in everything else you read. It's truly sad to stumble through the rest of your life searching for a comparable read as lively and passionate as this series by the masters of adventure, Weis and Hickman. OK, you've been warned.
Fantastic Novel!.......2000-03-14
By far, these are the best set of books that I have read in a VERY long time. I agree with some of the other people that the contents, especially the ending should NOT be reveiled in an email. I think that such a wonderful book should be read by the reader & not told to you by some goof. Experience the wonderful world of Krynn for yourself & you'll find you'll be back again & again & again.... :) Enjoy them all but start with Chronicles first! :)
NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE IT!.......1999-06-18
If you are reading this and thinking about buying, STOP READING THIS AND DO IT. I really can't think of any better book to read (other than the Chronicles) to get you started on fantasy. These books are easier to read and understand than most Tolkien novels. Caramon and Raistlin show the true struggle between Good, Evil, Love and Hate. Tasslehoff Burrfoot, our friendly Kender, also plays a MAJOR role, which I am glad to say. Just one more word......AWESOME!

A good read!.......2007-09-25
I love Dragonlance a lot! This trilogy was not as interesting as the first one Cronicles. however it was very good. If you like Raislin and the story of him searching to gain more magical power than this is the trilogy for you. A must for Dragonlance fans.
You'll love these books........2007-01-29
It doesn't matter what kind of books you like. Youll love the Chronicles and Legends trilogies.
SIMPLY AMAZING.......2006-11-12
Margret Weis and Tracy Hickam simply wrote the best six books I've ever read. Cronicles and Legends are great for any reader who enjoys a world of adventure. Every theme that you can find in a movie are in these books. Currently deployed, I finished the books in about a week for each one. If you love fantasy novels, this is the way to go!
Twins.......2006-11-10
My son could hardly put this set of books down. He read 5 of the the Dragonlance books in 3 months with is a seriously amazing thing for him!
Dragonlance top 3.......2006-11-05
These books along with The Soulforge are by far the best in the Dragonlance saga. Maybe I am partial to Raistlin but I find that the character is one of the most interesting in all D&D novels and the work that Weiss puts into him really pays off.
And time travelling is always a plus !

Customer Reviews:
Buy the earlier version.......2003-10-20
Although it doesn't look like the 2003 Princeton Review version of this book is different from the earlier version, it is and not just with typefaces. I bought it thinking they might have updated the resources in the back even though the Amazon blurb didn't suggest any changes. I was very surprised that the 2003 version took out the more negative, or human, stories of students who took time off to get back on track. Instead the new book highlights students who ended up at fancy colleges and makes it look like taking a year off is your key to an Ivy League school. Buy the earlier version which is much more balanced.
This Book Changed My LIFE!!!.......2003-06-04
I bought this book when it first came out a few years ago because I wanted to convince my parents that I could take a break before college and still make it a productive year. My dad was really worried that I wouldn't go back to school, but after he read a couple of year-off profiles in "Taking Time-Off," he was much more at ease. I'll be graduating from college this year and I am still so thankful for my year off. I was able to get an internship at a magazine that eventually gave me a job offer! You have to read this book.
