"Each of us has a Guardian Angel---a companion and lover who waits just behind the images that flood our minds during sleep or reverie. A protector and guide who disguises as the individual with whom we fall in love; an ideal lover who has adored us since the beginning of our individual existence and who will never abandon us until the instant we merge our being into Absolute Godhead."

This is Practical Invocation using Tarot.......2007-08-20
I been thinking awhile about whether to buy this book or not... I'm glad I did. I must say it offers quite a personal means of achieving a deeper understanding of your mental and especially spiritual self. "The Meditation of the Seer" alone is worth the price of this book!
A little bit of this, a little bit of that...,.......2006-01-12
This book deals mainly with sex magic and getting in touch with your personal Holy Guardian Angel ('Secret Lover'). I liked how this was related to being the Tiphareth Sephirah and also the reflection of Kether. There is much more to be said in this alone. I did like how this book encourages people to go beyond their fear, especially as relates to sexuality and Tantra. For me this was about all I gained from this book.
The author(s) are both learners of Israel Regardie and Aleister Crowley. After reading Christopher S. Hyatt's `Secrets of Western Tantra' (See my review) and being very disappointed, I did not hope much more from `Sex Magic, Tantra & Tarot'. I did find it a little better and have given it one more star. Both of the books that I have mentioned above have similar information i.e. `lesser banishing rituals' and tarot card descriptions associated with personal meanings. If you are into path working and mixing it up with astrology, numerology, tarot and Cabbala etc you may like this. Personally, a good portion of these books come across as being a little wishy washy, new age self help for my liking. The author being a psychotherapist and counsellor probably has something to do with this. There is however a little more depth, probably due to the influence of Israel Regardie and the many years Hyatt has been involved with the occult.
The author states that Sex Magic and Tantra are "Not the same". "Tantra itself is a vast subject, of which sex-magic practices constitute only a small part...Sex Magic however, (requires) no more than a purposeful intent, skill in the techniques of magic, and a relaxed attitude to any possible experience or effect." The author states that this can be accomplished by a single person and couples of same or different sexes. Note also that orgasm is encouraged with the practices given. In `Secrets of Western Tantra' Appendix, via another writer Phil Hine (see also Hine's book `Permutations'- Sub heading - `Sodomy as spiritual fulfilment' pg 25), Hyatt gives techniques for "Cacodemonic Copulations" i.e. sex with Succubi and Incubi; also Evocations for calling an entity for the purpose of having sex with this demon lover. Hyatt states that there are dangers for those not equipped to handle this and gives techniques for getting out of this once all hell breaks loose. I know that the author would hate what I'm about to say, but let's face it, this is black Tantra. I can see that by performing the rituals one would get more in touch with their spiritual selves, yet I profoundly doubt that performing these exercises would lead one to enlightenment. Do what thou wilt with this my review, but remember Anubis is not deceived and shows now partiality.
Powerful Magick.......2005-08-05
While the beginning of the book is mostly the authors explaining themselves and it goes into simple tarot card stuff the ending of the book is supreme with very powerful sex magick involving a partner. I also really liked the illustrations of the cards using Duquette's ceremonial magick deck. Overall, not a bad addition to your book collection if you are into Thelema and other schools of magick. Duquette and Hyatt are both respected authorities on the subject. This involves the all important supreme ritual of invocation one's personal daemon or holy guardian angel (HGA) and for bringing the subject into more tangible terms involving a ritual the book is to be admired.
Contact and streangthing your relationship with your HGA.......2003-01-27
SEX MAGICK, TANTRA, & TAROT
BY Christopher S. Hyatt and Lon Milo DuQuette.
First of all this book is simple to understand and the directions are quite clear. This is a book that can change you for the better if you work it. Its a way of using the tarot in a special reading "not an ordinary divination" to know of yourself on a more deeper level. It will prepare you for Kundalini and the knowledge and conversation of you Holy Gaurdian Angel. Even if you like I have had in the past and still have the knowledge and conversation this book can help you on a more deeper level. It uses the systems of Tantra, Sex Magick and Ceremonial Magick to achieve this. It also has a chapter on how the Tarot and the Tree of Life and Qabalah are all put together. This book is great for those who wish to have this High Magickal experience, it should not be passed by. The book is 191 pages but dont let that fool you as there is a wealth of information here. Too me its one of those treasures I considder priceless and I will hold on to for good! ! ! I am very pleased at what has been put into this book. Even though I had the knoledge and conversation with my HGA many years ao I found these techniques to be helpful in streanthning my relationship with my Angel. I still like using this book as a reference.
Sex and Magic using your Tarot.......1999-12-03
Hyatt and Duquette team together for a ritual using sex as the meditation in gaining insight, enlightenment, samadhi - whatever it may be. Also using your Tarot cards coupled with astrology to determine the time and place of the ritual (conversation) of the Holy Guardian Angel. Spelled out by Hyatt and Duquette, both learners of Israel Regardie, in an explanatory manner how to achieve invocation through sex with a partner or yourself.

Not a bad book for the casual chef.......2006-11-10
As a veteran food service professional and a devotee of the Food Lover's Companion i expected a little bit more from this book. It's full of fantastic tips and tricks, many known only in the food service industry, but i would be hard pressed to see this used as a reference book. It's interesting light reading. I expected more food science and chemistry and less 'Hints from Heloise'. The author's reliance on non-stick aerosol spray oil is a little unnerving.
It will certainly find a place in my chef's office, but more for the intersting tidbits of knowledge regarding beets than anything else.
Much of this information would be useful for the casual cook, but it lacks the 'must-have' draw of the Food Lover's Companion.
Always Find What I Want To Know.......2005-07-21
I got this book for a present about six months ago and can't stop picking it up. I heard this author on the radio recently and she was just as engaging and informative talking about burgers as she was about wine-and all the info she discussed is in this book, so I figure it's a darn good deal.
I've been cooking for a long time, but keep finding great info in The Food Lover's Tiptionary-whether for everyday cooking techniques (such as for subjects like corn, eggs, potatoes, tomatoes, etc.) or for tips for special event preparations (like how to handle caviar, or different ways to prepare risotto). There's even info on kitchenware and appliances-from knives to food processors.
Love the "tidbits" at the beginning of almost every listing-little informational "bites" (history, etymology, etc.) that add so much to the subject. In short, LOVE this handy, easy-to-read, exceedingly informative book!
Tips and Techniques to Boost Basic Cooking Skills........2004-11-05
"The Food Lover's Tiptionary" is a collection of tips and techniques on basic culinary subjects, organized alphabetically. I believe there are about 500 separate entries, but the book doesn't say. The 6,000 tips referred to on the book's cover fall under the entries. The book covers specific foods, general food categories, kitchen utensils, and culinary techniques. Food entries are presented in the following format: Tidbit (either a definition or food trivia), Purchasing, Equivalents, Storing, Preparing, Cooking, and/or Using. Some of the food entries are accompanied by short recipes. The formats of other types of entries vary, and may be best described by example: The entry for "Cookies" provides extensive instructions on making dough, preparing pans, baking, finishing, and storing. "Ice" gives general information and instructions for various ice cubes for different occasions. "Baked Goods" includes general baking tips. "Pasta Shapes" describes 65 shapes. Food quotes by recognizable names are scattered throughout the book, wherever the subject of the quote is found. There are several charts in the book, such as metric conversion, oven temperature equivalents, and pan sizes. And there is a Recipe Index in the back, for the over 100 short recipes found throughout the book.
Every cook could learn something from the "Tiptionary", but I think beginning or moderately experienced cooks will find it most useful. The subjects, themselves, are pretty basic. "Gourmet" subjects are few, and ethnic foods not at all. The entries are thorough, though, and would be helpful to an experienced chef if he/she doesn't happen to have experience with a particular food that is included. The emphasis is on instruction in "The Food Lover's Tiptionary", whereas the author's popular "Food Lover's Companion" emphasizes definitions. The "Food Lover's Companion" describes nearly 6,000 culinary terms -ethnic, gourmet, and obscure included.
Thanks again, Sharon Tyler Herbst.......2004-09-21
I've long been a fan of Sharon Tyler Herbst's books (have "The Ultimate A to Z Bar Guide," the "New Food Lover's Companion, the "Wine Lover's Companion" and "The Ultimate Guide to Pitcher Drinks"). So, when I recently received the new edition of her "Tiptionary" I eagerly started thumbing through it. This one's absolutely fabulous, and is also arranged in an easy A to Z format, which is one of the reasons I like this author's books so much! My new hubby's a hamburger fanatic (I'll convert him, yet;) so imagine my delight when I found over two pages of info on the subject. Now I cook his burgers just the way he likes them. Of course, I've found oodles of other subjects that make ME happy, like corn. The "Tiptionary" gave me dozens of hints on how to buy, store and cook it, and it has a super recipe for "Grilled Corn Off the Cob," which my spouse loves! And that brings me to another favorite feature of this book--it has dozens of short recipes scattered throughout. Not to mention that it tells you what to do with leftovers of whatever food you're looking up. Add to that loads of charts (temperature, measurements, pan sizes, pasta sizes, etc.), and you've got a book that every cook should have. Thank you, Sharon Tyler Herbst, for another great one!
Everything I wanted to know and more.......2004-08-12
Well, this book is certainly a winner. I LOVE to cook and know a lot about the subject, but a friend gave this to me for my birthday and I can't stop reading it. It's the little things that count for me, like information on pan substitutions (different sizes that will work for a pan you don't have) and temperature and measurement charts, and a pasta glossary. And I love the fabulous tips on all the foods. For instance, corn and tomato season is coming up and I've been buying a lot. This book gives me all kinds of tips on how to buy, store and prepare them, not to mention what to do with leftovers! I even learned how to make a juicier, more tender and less caloric hamburger. And I finally learned how to handle my microwave oven, which has been sitting unused for months. Need I say more? I LOVE THIS BOOK, and I think most people will, too.

Surprised me ..........2007-06-13
This book taught me a few things I didn't already know, and I was surprised by some of the reactions I got after applying its principles and techniques.
Ablsolute Must HAVE for Couples..........2005-10-03
I am amazed at the effectiveness of the techniques described in this book... I am enjoying every minute! Have had a hard time putting it dowm. Highly recommend!
A Perfect Touch.......2000-07-19
Very well done. With sensitive material that could easily be presented either too pornographically or too clinically, Michael Reed Gach, a Californian acupressure practitioner and teacher, strikes the perfect balance. Contents include: acupressure guidelines, stimulating sexual energy, building intimacy, preparing for love, arousing a woman or a man, and acupressure techniques for mutual stimulation, oral sex, and intercourse. Also includes chapters on Thai Massage, "Acupressure for the Afterglow" and acupressure for sexual problems and healing. The author is generous with information and presents it with clarity. The book includes diagrams and photos, also presented sensitively and clearly. The subject is treated with the tenderness it deserves and yet is very specific in its suggested applications of this age-old technique. Highly recommended.
Book Description
A nervous courier delivers the handwritten manuscript of a dissident Russian novel to Paul Christopher early one morning in West Berlin. Minutes after the handoff, the courier's spine is neatly snapped by an impact with a passing black sedan. Meanwhile in Rome, Christopher's wife Cathy takes a famous film director as a lover to stir her husband out of the stoicism that defines his personality.
These two seemingly discrete events set in motion a spiral of operational and personal intrigue that leads Christopher from meetings with an aging agent in the cafes of old Europe to a rendezvous with an operative on the front lines of the Cold War in the Congo as he secretly arranges the publication of a novel that could bring the Soviet system to its knees and races to identify the leak that compromised the messengerand possibly his entire mission.
Since his reemergence with the publication of Old Boys, Charles McCarry has been once again heralded as one of the select few espionage novelists who manages to break out of his genre to shine as a brilliant novelist in his own right. The Secret Lovers is McCarry at his bestan exploration of the epic scope of "the great game," but also a riveting psychological portrait of a man ensnared by a profession that never failed to exert its insidious influence outside the professional boundaries that, like the facade of diplomacy that outwardly held the Cold War in check, could never contain its violence essence.
Customer Reviews:
i wonder if mccarry knew her.......2007-02-03
found this book in the dollar section of the local library charity bin, lost it on the plane, went through security to retrieve it, and that was after 25 pages. secret lovers, seductive title for my bookcase, but once you understand the secrets are spies, and real ones, the lovers and what their need for secrets create has stayed with me for years, images constant, and i see daniel craig as paul christopher, too bad for the timing, but still looking for my cathy. this gives dinner party talk a new spin, kennedy conspiracy and the gulag! and i believe it ...
None Better - but read before listening to it!.......2006-11-18
The Secret Lovers by McCarry is a cold-eyed but fully engaged odessey of love, the emotional and analytical paths of betrayal and its unraveling, and the imitation of life that is tradecraft.
If you found a lifetime of enjoyment in LeCarre's Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (i.e., if you re-read it every few years just to spend a day with an old friend) you will find the same kind of unforgetable stories and characters in this novel, only a few more of them, and most of them a little more developed.
McCarry's literary voice (think Scott Fitzgerald to LeCarre's Dickens), his empathic but not the least bit co-dependent connection to his characters, and his ability to remind us that his complete novel is just a few weeks in their busy lives, reminds us that greatness is a quantum leap from the ordinary.
The Secret Lovers will stand with Tinker Tailor, and with Erje Ayden's almost unknown Sadness at Leaving, as a masterpiece of a time that is both past and, like the human needs for conflict and resoltion, timeless.
This is a book for those for whom printed words on a page have far more power than images on a screen, or probably, for the recorded voice reading them aloud.
Simply Outstanding!.......2004-11-23
Spies, Russian authors, infidelity, indifference, you name it, you got it. I enjoyed the book very much. McCarry has a subtle way of dealing with spy craft that is different than other writers. Great intrigue.
From inside flap:.......2004-04-03
Set in 1960 at the peak of the cold war, the story turns on the smuggling of a vital manuscript out of Moscow. At dawn in Berlin, covert action officer Paul Christopher rendezvouses with the agent carrying the manuscript to the West. Minutes later, the courier is killed by a hit-and-run driver. And the questions begin. Who killed the courier, but, most of all, why?
Pretty good Cold War spy novel.......2003-08-24
A spy novel written in the 1970s. A CIA officer investigates a murder which reaches back to the Spanish Civil War. Turns out some of his contemporaries were Communist sympathizers (similiar to Kim Philby) who became Soviet spies. Another was a devout Catholic who sided with Franco to oppose the Reds. Meanwhile, this CIA officer hero must also struggle with the challenge of maintaining a happy marriage. His rich young wife is bored and dissatisfied by his constant foreign travel & intrigue.
This is a fairly entertaining and well-researched Cold War spy novel, and the domestic side story is engaging without overwhelming the main spy story.

Extremely disappointing........2007-07-04
I bought this book expecting to get a guide to very good Paris food outlets. It is not even remotely close. Indeed I am reminded of the famous dictum "it does not rise ro a level that could be called shallow".
It has a lot of very nice glossy pictures & a brief guide to the different areas of the city exactly as you would find in any basic intro to Paris but completely unrelated to Gourmet eating. There are some wonderful recipes (I am sure) but I don't cook.
All in all only a small fraction of the book is dedicated to telling you where to find Gourmet eateries.
A huge disappointment.
A Gourmet Lovers Guide to Paris.......2007-02-15
A wonderful combination of tourism and cuisine...recipes that bring you to the places presented in vivid photos of the most beautiful city in the world...Bon Appetit!
Eat & Shop Merrily.......2007-01-16
Not only a visually beautiful book, but packed full of great recipies and places to eat and shop. We have been to many of the restaraunts, and the reviews are dead on. A great book for anyone going to Paris.
Beautiful Book.......2006-12-22
A really entertaining and useful book to lure you to Paris. Very well written (and detailed) reviews on Restaurants, Cafes, Pastry shops, Chocolate shops, Cheese shops, Markets, etc... by districts and arrondisments. The gorgeous photos alone made me start planning my next trip to Paris. The author also includes quite a few recipes.
Book Description
Even though Keith Richardson and his wife, Francesca, own a shop that specializes in angels, and Keith has written the definitive books on America's best-known angel artist, Andy Lakey, Richardson was beyond surprised and to say the least skeptical when, during a guided meditation, a fully formed spirit guide appeared to him and began to speak. The story unfolds. The spirit guide called himself Chang (a Chinese title for "Emperor," as it turns out.) Chang is currently spirit guide to seventeen people, several of whom make an appearance in this book--most notably, James Van Praagh.
As Richardson is guided by Chang, he learns many important life lessons and receives information about the past lives he and his wife share along with several of their current acquaintances. Richardson's quest eventually brings him to the Qing Tombs outside Beijing where Chang offers him a life-changing message that leads him and Francesca to recognize the meaning of true love and forgiveness.
This moving and inspiring story has chapters on reincarnation and how it works, plus information on karma and universal laws, i.e. abundance, forgiveness, attraction.
A fast and fascinating read! This is a book in the tradition of best-selling New Age titles such as The Celestine Prophecy or Mutant Message Down Under, or Shirley MacLaine's groundbreaking Out on a Limb.
* A true story of love and reincarnation, forgiveness and karma, with wide mass appeal.
Customer Reviews:
Disappointed.......2007-06-29
Having read many, many books on reincarnation, past lives, and lives between lives, I found this book extremely disappointing. The author focuses solely on ONE past life that allegedly he and his wife lived in 17th century China, to the point of obsession. He makes some factual errors, i.e., when citing Brian Weiss' "Many Lives Many Masters," he refers to Dr. Weiss as a Ph.D. instead of the proper M.D. degree. As an alleged anthropologist one would expect him to know the difference between a classically trained psychiatrist who went through med school and someone with a Ph.D.! And he never once mentions Taoism and its huge incluence on Chinese culture and religion, and how it influenced Buddhism, especially Zen Buddhism, in China. I believe that we live hundreds of lives, in many cultures, and are meant to learn from all of them, instead of singlemindely and obsessively focusing on a single past life as he and his wife do. If one is truly interested in reincarnation, I would recommend all of Dr. Weiss' books as well as Michael Newton's (who focuses on life between lives)instead, plus a number of other credible authors. If you want a true love story involving reincarnation, read Dr. Weiss' "Only Love is Real."
I bought this book because of its title, assuming it had something to do with Chuang Tzu's (the ancient Taoist) famous dream about the butterfly, and I feel thorougly cheated. The writing isn't very good either--it's very simple and juvenile and completely self-absorbed.
You are never alone, Truth and True Love.......2007-04-17
I truly enjoyed this book, "Secret of the Butterfly Lovers". The fact that these two wonderful people have found each other in this life is sweet, but to learn and understand where they have been is a Miracle, Love Story, Friendship, Loyalty, Humility, Spiritual, and very Awesome. Most people go through life excepting what they do, think, feel, blame, or think they are victims. But in reality, life is always happening and we are one with everything, and it's understanding that we do have spiritual help and guidance, all we have to do is just open our hearts and listen. And this book just brings it all home. Thank you Francesca and Keith, for having the insight and love for each other to look beyond your bounds. I will buy this book for everyone in my family. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Journey of True Love.......2007-04-15
I came from a strong Catholic background and there were always things I thought about that I could not answer. The book has helped me open to a new level of spirituality and beliefs. I would suggest that anyone who is wanting a change in their life or answers to questions they have thought about this book is a must read. I commend the writer on his presentation of his true love journey, spirit guide and the history of it all.
Outstanding Epic of true love.......2007-04-14
This book is the BEST!! I couldn't put it down, once I started reading, I stayed with it until I was done. A true story of the Richardson's path to spirituality. The twists and turns of a man seeking the truth, knowledge and understanding of his path in this life. You come to understand that there are many things in this world that we take for granted, that are happening because of life lessons learned in another lifetime. I can't say enough about the upbeat feeling you have when you read this book. I can't wait to read it again and again.
Truly a compelling and inspiring story.......2007-04-13
This was by far one of the best books that I have read in a long time... Once I began reading it... I couldnt stop until I was done... No matter what your background, religion or ideals are you are bound to be touched by this book on some level... Mr. Richardson chronicles the journey that he and his wife have embarked on in pursuit of discovering past lives, love and reincarnation, forgiveness, the universal laws and karma... Richardson shares a truly compelling and inspirational story with the world... It is a beautifully written book... I totally give this book my highest recommendation... Everyone should read this book!

Slow starting.......2005-10-11
This story started out so slow I almost put it down several times... But WAIT! the story picked up steam and I'm very glad I held on. I only put 3 stars because it was hard to get started into the story.
Good book - not a 5 star but still good!.......2005-01-30
I think the biggest problem I have with some of the London books - it takes too long to get truly involved in them. There is just a lot of extra pages at the beginning that I am tempted to skip because they drag with discription which seems unneccesary! After you get into the true plot of this book, once they are in London - and certainly when Sophie finally meets Caleb - then things start to sizzle!! The way her family was trying force/encourage a relationship with society's accepted brother Trevor - who Sophie found offensive, boring and perhaps dangerous! But Caleb was a [...]and society had deemed him a fortune hunter. Sophie is torn between the love she feels for Caleb and what her family will expect of her. This is a touching story too about the love Caleb feels for his father and how Trevor seems to be keeping Will the father away from society and in a drugged state. Of course he has dispicable motives for his actions and eventually will be revealed. The love is strong between Caleb and Sophie and people will enjoy how they respond deeply to each other. I do not understand the problem with the epilog - if a writer is not going to continue with many other books to follow in a series - why not let us know how these characters deal with their lives beyond the end of the book!!
WHAT??? The Epilogue was outstanding!!.......2005-01-18
I'm confused by the comment made below that because of the epilogue the book was ruined. I won't ruin it for you when I say that it only made the book better. It was a nice, realistic touch to books that too often have only cheesy quick endings. It is still a 'happy' ending and one that I have read over and over again just to relive the emotion Julia London put into it. Read it and you won't be disappointed.
For the first time...I don't know what I think.......2005-01-16
I truely have mixed feelings about the elipogue. It was sweet but it did leave the book on a downer. I also, in general, do not like books where everything is explained to the reader through a long speech made by one of the characters to a group of other characaters. This may seem petty but we had the little bit of mystery explained to us over more than 10 pages. It would have been nice to have it come out a little more over time.
I did like the characters and they were developed well. Ian was cute and Caleb was truely one of the best leading males I have read in quite a while! I am impressed with the story and I liked the book pretty much until the end where we got a long drawn out explanation (catch-up story) and then the epilogue. It was a nice wrap up to the series however.
Beware the Epilogue.......2003-04-03
In truth this is an amazing piece of historical fiction. Being a 2 book a day reader, I've become jaded and it takes alot to get me to run home to read a book. This story had it, funny characters, great dialogue and a to die for hero. The book is by turns witty and charming and had the Eplogue NOT been included I would have added Julia London to my must buy list. But not now.. I literally threw the book across the room and as far as I am concerned I wasted 3 hours reading a book that in the long run left me feeling rather [upset]. So in fair warning don't read the Epilogue unless you DON'T like to think of "Happily Ever After."

In Pure Kama Sutra, the sexiest ingredients from classic Eastern erotica—the Kama Sutra, Ananga Ranga, and The Perfumed Garden—are combined with current Western studies to form an exciting new sexual chemistry. An essential, sensual guide for every modern couple, its frank text and provocative photos show readers how to excel in the arts of seduction and foreplay, how to intensify each orgasm by mastering the skills of Tantric sex, and how to understand and explore their deep sexual natures. With dozens of imaginative ways to spice up lovemaking explained in unblushingly candid detail, the practical suggestions here provide an ideal reference for those already initiated into the benefits of Eastern techniques and a good starting point for those who have not yet experienced Tantric pleasure.
Customer Reviews:
Actually pretty good.......2007-08-31
This is a pretty good volume. A good mix of quality photography as well as interesting prose. It is much better than traditional "kama sutra" books as it is geared toward modern readers and not limited to strict translations of original kama sutra text. About half the prose consists of new material that is relevent and interesting to the chapter themes.
