Customer Reviews:
Excellent book!.......2006-10-07
This is such a great book to teach kids not to just "follow the leader" and to think for yourself. Brother Bear goes to get his sister's jump rope back from the school bully and they dare him to do some bad things. When Brother is dared to steal a watermelon from a friend's patch, he resists at first but then they "dee double dare" him and well, off he goes. Brother finds out that he's been found out by his friend, Farmer Ben, and Ben then tells Brother of the dangers of following someone instead of thinking for yourself. It's really interesting how they did this - Farmer Ben tells Brother that sheep will follow a leader anywhere, even off a cliff. You just have to learn not to be like sheep and think for yourself. So when Too-Tall Grizzly tries once again to get Brother to do something bad, Brother calls Too-Tall and his gang, "Sheep." It's a great lesson, one that is easily remembered and very well done. If you're interested, this one is also done on a dvd and it's great too! We love it in our house. Highly recommend!
Dares, Double-Dares, Dee-Double-Dares.......2004-01-09
This is a good book about peer pressure. My 5 year-old son enjoyed the story. Some of the life lessons we talked about while reading this story are 1) thinking for yourself, 2) friends don't call friends names, and 3) never take something that does not belong to you.
I especially liked how Farmer Ben taught Brother Bear to not allow being called names (i.e. chicken) to cause him to be misled. Farmer Ben also used a story about sheep to teach a good lesson about the importance of thinking for yourself.
Brother Bear uses the lessons learned from Farmer Ben while handling his next encounter with the Too-Tall Gang (yet another double dare). This time he is not misled because he thinks for himself, sticks with what he knows is right, and says no.
Double Dare.......1999-12-03
Peer pressure is the definition of this book. A bully, Too Tall Grizzly dares Brother to steal from a close neighbor. Brother doesn't want to be a chicken - so he does it anyway and is caught. The neighbor gives Brother great advice that he carries with him and is helpful in his next encounter.

Awesome Book! Everyone should read it!.......2007-02-24
This book was awesome! But there were so many problems. First, Madison and Aimee are planning a surprise party for their BFF ( Fiona) and her twin brother. And it takes so much work. Also Madison's friend, Egg, is going to log off as her friend forever. And Madison and her Dad get in their first big fight. And Madison and Fiona enter a web page contest. And they compete aganist Egg and Fiona's brother (Chet). There was just so many things going on! But it was a great book! If you love Madison Finn then you should read this book. You should even read it if you aren't a Madison Finn fan.
a little lackluster.......2004-08-24
"Double Dare" is one of my least favorite Madison Finn books. The story follows Madison as she and Egg together decide to work on a webpage for a contest. Egg backs out at the last minute to work with Chet Waters. Now Madison is mad, and decides to work with Fiona Waters, Chet's twin, in an effort to beat Egg and Chet. But Madison's double dare backfires and Egg says he's ready to quit being her best guy friend. Can Madison fix their friendship? The plot from this book was a little lackluster, in my opinion.
jesi's thoughts.......2004-06-27
I can't believe blew her off like that. I know that he might be better friends with Chet, but he could have at least talked to him and her about it. I did feel better when Fiona became her partner, even though that's all they thought about. But the way Aimee and her threw that party was awesome! Especially since Ivy dressed in a mini and almost let everyone see England and France!
not my fav madison finn book.......2004-05-31
i have read all the madison finn books, and this is not one of my favorites.its basically just about how madison and fiona r competing against egg and chet in this webpage contest.oh and then madison and her friends r planning a surprise b-day party 4 fiona and chet.it was kinda boring 2 me,but thats just my opion.i would reccomend # 9 and the super editon, those r my favs!
1daful book!!!!!! (= wonderful. Get it? From the 15th book ).......2003-12-22
This book is about when Madison Finn hears about a web contest. They have to create a web page that would be helpfull to others(w/school/ subjects). Maddie thinks this will be fun until Chet (Fiona's twin) and Egg( Maddie's Best Guy Friend) Double Dare her and Fiona to see who will win! Just some friendly competition, right? Wrong. 'Cuz when Madison's frienship w/Egg starts to get weird, is the contest really that important that she'll lose her BGF (best guy friend)? And Is Egg logging off as a friend forever? He wouldn't dare... would he? Read the book to find out!!!
Fiona and Chet's birthday is coming up(The Twins)! Maddie and Aimee plan a surprise party for them! But it starts turning into double trouble. Can they keep the secret? They sneak around and go in private chats to plan the party. Hope Fiona doesn't find out! Then the surprise will be ruined!! This is a cool book!! Can't wait for the 16th one, Three's A Crowd, and the Super Edition, To Have And To Hold!!! >^,,^

Book Description
The success of the first Dare to Be Scared collection of spooky stories inspired this second volume of equally creepy tales. Typical is "Mountain Childers," in which two strange skinny children — the "childers" of the title — crash young Daniel Freed's vacation in the lonesome mountains of Kentucky. When the older couple that was his hosts disappear and he hears laughter from the "childers," who have gotten surprisingly fat, Daniel knows there's trouble. When they follow him home, he wonders if he's going to be next on the menu! Their offer — really a command — to walk him to school is the last thing Daniel wants to hear. Written in Robert San Souci's trademark realistic style for maximum jitters, and illustrated with David Ouimet's eerie black-and-white drawings, this volume includes ghost stories, science fiction, dark fantasy, and "jump" stories for reading aloud with friends or alone on a stormy night.

Pretty Good.......2006-02-14
This is a collection of Thirteen stories. The story I liked best was Daddy Boogey. It's about a 7 year old boy named Andy who loves going to Nebraska to visit his grandparents. He like their stories about early days one the farm. The only problem was he had to share a room with his older brothers who teased him and called him crybaby. The only other thing that bothered him were the old fashioned scarecrows his grandpa insisted on scattering around the cornfields,This bothers realize he's afraid and name the scarecrow Daddy Boogey. The more Andy begged them to stop, the more frequent and horrible their stories become. One day Andy catches them destorying Daddy Boogey They break one of his arms .Andy tells them to stop that there grandpa will be mad yet they laugh and make fun of him.Yet they should have listen because now Daddy Boogey Is mad and wants revenge. While I think the book okay and I like the illustrations that accompany the stories.I think this book is better for younger kids.If your looking for a Real Scare you might want to skip this book.

Book Description
Her short stories have seduced readers in more than thirty international anthologies. Her first novel is twice as hot.
She is Abby Douglas, an investment advisor who has enticed many men. No commitments. No regrets. No games. Then she meets a dangerously sexy stranger in the elevator of her office building-and suddenly she's submitting to the kind of raw fantasies no respectable businesswoman should ever consider.
He is club owner Zac Bordina, stunned to find such a receptive partner between floors. But Abby's also the brains behind his company's investments, and she doesn't even know it. Now Zac isn't sure what to tell Abby first-his growing feelings for her, or their secret connection. Either way, from London to Paris, it's business and pleasure for the both of them.
Customer Reviews:
Not your grandmother's romance novel.......2006-10-14
First let me say what this isn't. This isn't your grandmother's romance novel, although it's plenty romantic.
What this is, is a red hot read from page one, ranging from outspokenly explicit to lyrically beautiful.
You're Abby Douglas, a financial planner. You're running for the elevator on your way back to the office, when a muscled forearm holds the door so you can hop in. Attached to that muscled forearm is a dangerously sexy man. This is red hot romance, so you make no bones about wanting to jump his, well, bones. Then he follows you into your office, and it appears he's a courier there to make a delivery. Thinking he'll probably be turned off by your high powered career, you imply that you're a receptionist.
You're Zac Bordino, the son of wealthy parents each with sizeable business holdings. You're doing your mother a favor by delivering papers to the firm that handles her company's investments. Just as the elevator doors are closing, a woman calls out. Being a gentleman, you hold the door for her. In walks a red hot number, and she makes it clear she's interested in you. You both get off at the same floor, and it turns out she works for your mother's financial managers. She seems to be a receptionist, so you let her think you're simply a courier.
There you have the basis of the conflict between them. They're hot for the each other, but they're both pretending to be something they're not. When they begin to realize what's between them is more than just sex, they're both afraid to reveal the subterfuge. In fact, subterfuge is the underlying theme of the book. The secondary plot is affected by it, as well.
The settings are well described, from the back room of an alternative performance venue, to a luxurious suite in a Paris hotel, to the corporate boardroom. Ms. Walker has a way with settings that really gives a sense of place. I was pulling for Abby and Zac to work out their differences, and I definitely enjoyed the ride as they came to grips with their passion and growing attachment.
This is a story with well developed characters, outwardly very different people, who complicate their relationship from the very first meeting. Happily, the secondary story line has equally interesting characters and is equally well done. She shows us each character in his or her natural setting, so we can understand what makes them tick, and she gets the variety of environments spot on.
I first became familiar with Saskia Walker's writing through her erotic short stories published in numerous anthologies, so I was pleased to see the relatively new Berkley Heat line had taken her on. I'm happy to see this novel length story delivers on the promise of those shorter works.
An exciting and thought provoking read.
Less than stellar.......2006-10-12
If you are looking for a steamy read with a good story and well-developed relationships, this is not it. It is not even a quick light, entertaining read. This book just goes on and on. If the author had cut out thee quarters of the book and confined it to a short story, it might have worked out better. I initially wanted to give this 2 stars but I bumped it up to three because I liked the ending.
The main characters, Abby and Zac are both hard characters to like. I could not bring myself to care about them or their relationship until almost the end of the book. Abby seems like any guy could work for what she wants. Zac is not 'darkly dangoerous,' but spoiled and manipulative. They both are carrying out this ridiculous charade that two seemingly intelligent people should be able to see through in a short time, keeping the 'secret' about who they are long after it is necessary. The intimate scenes between them are mechanical and formulaic rather than provocative and sensual. No zing at all. It reached the point where I just skipped over these parts.
The secondary characters in the book however are very well done. From the workmates to the sleazy boss, and even Zac's parents, each one adds something to the story and makes it a little richer... except perhaps for the bi-sexual best friend, who seems to have been thrown in there to add a little sizzle factor to the plot. She appears twice and is rather lack luster and stereotypical to her role. The secondary romance between Nathan and the receptionist (I forget her name) is actually quite sweet.
Towards the end Abby and Zac become a little more authentic, leading up to a nice, not great, but nice ending. If you have the patience to read through all the rest of the book you will be fairly content at the end of it all. The bottom line is that it all the pieces seem to be in place for a great romantic read, but when you put them all together something is missing.

Her friends insist that Audra Walker no longer qualifies as a "Wicked Chick" as she has become all work designing lingerie and no play. They dare her to prove she is still one of them. This is a Really Fun Book. .......2007-01-16
Vickie has created a delightful series with the Woman of S.A.S.S, I really like the chemistry between Maggie and Justin, in this book, and the story is very well plotted and really is a page turner.
One thing I like about this series, is that the Adventure comes first, and the Romance is a subplot. As a guy, Im not normally interested in Romances, but these stories read more like a Hollywood movie, except the Leading Ladies are as strong, capable, and sexy as the leading men.
Vickie Hinze is just a really gifted story teller and I will give most anything she writes a chance, but I have to admit this is my Favorite. It's been a while since the last S.A.S.S. book has come out and I hope she has not lost interest in the series, because I am really looking forward to its final chapter myself.
A wonderful read for a winters evening, so turn off your tube, and curl up with a great book. :) BB.
Suspense at its best!.......2006-01-19
It's Christmas time and Maggie Holt, Secret Assignment Security Specialist (SASS) is not happy that she's being teamed up to work with Dr. Justin Crowe of Crowe Pharmaceuticals.
Maggie is not fond of men since her former husband, Jack, cheated on her with her former best friend, Karen. She specifically doesn't want to work with Crowe because she knows he was caught cheating on his ex-wife, Andrea.
Justin Crowe, a civilian, is working with SASS as a scientific expert. He's trying to prevent an extremely dangerous and deadly virus from being released by German-born Thomas Kuntz. The SASS believes Kuntz will most likely try to target the Santa Bella mall with the virus. Kuntz' ultimate goal is to destroy the United States by destroying its economy.
As Maggie and Justin work together, their feelings for each other mount. The first priority however is the mission.
Vicki Hinze has again written a novel that sizzles. Once she sets the stage, look out, because you're in for a breathless ride. And just like her novel, Body Double, Double Dare is so exciting, you might want to make sure your heart can take the ride.
It was also enjoyable to meet characters that returned to make an appearance from Body Double. It was like meeting up with old friends, or dangerous enemies, and added to the fun.
Armchair Interviews says: Double Dare is suspense that won't quit.
delightful speeding rocket ride of a thriller.......2005-12-15
Secret Assignment Security Specialist (SASS) Agent Maggie Holt hates working with men ever since her former spouse Jack cheated on her with her once best friend. Maggie does not trust males to protect her back as they always think with the wrong head and that adds unneeded danger during precarious situations.
The SASS operative has no choice when the assignment forces her to team up with a male civilian, Dr. Justin Crowe of Crowe Pharmaceuticals as he is the scientific expert in preventing a deadly virus being released by Thomas Kuntz most likely at the Santa Bella Mall on Christmas Eve. Maggie knows from the dossier that Justin was caught cheating on his wife, who is now his ex. However as they work together she admits to herself Justin is not like her ex husband though he did wrong as he understands the seriousness of the mission must come before any personal feelings. As they work together to prevent the terrorists from succeeding, Maggie and Justin fall in love, but their priority remains stopping the lethal assault.
Once a reluctant Maggie finishes sassing her new teammate and goes to the mall hoping to be just in time to stop a tragedy, the tale goes into hyperspeed and never decelerates until the final altercation. Readers will need a seatbelt as this thriller stays at faster than light speed throughout the story line. Yet in spite of the action, fans will understand Maggie's aversion and Justin's ability to overwhelm her doubts though he did cheat on his ex-spouse. Vicki Hinze provides a delightful speeding rocket ride.
