OK.....but not great.......2007-08-10
This is my 2nd Moning. Overall, I enjoyed this book but I would not read it again. I found the heroine annoying and the hero overdone. I get it he is ...dark and sexy...I'm not going to forget from one page to the next. I will probably try another of her books before I give up. I love romance novels but this really just read like pure fantasy.
Dark Highlander - Highlander Series.......2007-08-09
In this book, KMM has created the man of many women's dreams. Dageus is the bad boy that the good girls want to convert. The entire book was amazing (as the rest of the series) and the darker tones in the book set off her characters nicely. If you get tired of the same old shiny bright heroes, this is the book for you. Dageus is dark, hot, sensual, and deeply complex. This complexity helps this book stand out a bit above the rest... highly recommended.
Heartless Druid on the run from himself!.......2007-05-21
This is the story of a Scottish Druid from the 16th century who falls in love in the 21st century. Sound familiar?
This book is the direct sequel to Kiss of the Highlander, and unlike others in Moning's Highlander series, really should be read in tandem with the previous book. Otherwise you can't fully engage with the story, with the character or his situation. Unfortunately when you do that, you'll easily see the parallel and repetetive plot devices that may make the story seem disappointingly formulaic.
What makes this story different from others that Ms. Moning has written, and a powerful story in its own right, is the level of conflict with the dark Druids who are foretold to enter the mind of any Druid who travels through time for his own personal reasons (abuses his power). Drageus has done this forbidden act in a self-less way, to preserve the life and love of his dear brother (and you would only resonnate with that part of the story if you read 'Kiss'). The story jumps right in shortly after Kiss left off, with the two brothers already in communication over his situtation, and Drageus struggling with the Dark Druids over his own soul. The author doesn't try to build his character, the way a novel normally starts - he seems like a heartless bastard, he doesn't love anyone, save his family members, and has firmly given up on that aspect of his life, when he meets Chloe in a very funny scene.
The love story follows a similar vein as Kiss of the Highlander, in which Chloe must fight for her love with Dageus, and go backwards in time with him. But the ultimate struggle in this story is the hero's (unlike Kiss where it was the heroine who had to fight for her love). Dageus must prove himself and demonstrate strength of character, and so by the end of the book it is hard not to have fallen in love with this powerfully sexy and charismatic man. ;-)
Enjoy this story! And enjoy the return of some characters that we came to love in Kiss of the Highlander: Silvan, Nell, Drustan, and Gwen. How often do we read a book and wish it could never end? Dark Highlander gives you a chance to continue to enjoy a great story, and provides a sequel that is just as powerful a story.
Dissapointed with this one..........2007-04-11
In this book about Adam Black, I found myself dissapointed and surprised by the lack of consistency of Adam's character compared to the other Highlander books that he appeared in. He was positively horrid in the past books and down right hateable. I felt that his character as that hateable fairy added to the last books and made you understand why is son didn't want anything much to do with him in "The Highlander's Touch". His lightening fast change of character in this book was just too unbelievable to me. I couldn't even finish due to the fact that it just wasn't even ficticiously believable as Moning's past books have been. Oh well, you can't please everyone. I'm glad that someone enjoyed it. I do look forward to more about the MacKeltar brothers in the future. Pleas don't wait to long to pick up the Highlander series again, Ms. Moning. Thanks!

Book Description
A laird trapped between centuries...
Enchanted by a powerful spell, Highland laird Drustan MacKeltar slumbered for nearly five centuries hidden deep in a cave, until an unlikely savior awakened him. The enticing lass who dressed and spoke like no woman he’d ever known was from his distant future, where crumbled ruins were all that remained of his vanished world. Drustan knew he had to return to his own century if he was to save his people from a terrible fate. And he needed the bewitching woman by his side....
A woman changed forever in his arms...
Gwen Cassidy had come to Scotland to shake up her humdrum life and, just maybe, meet a man. How could she have known that a tumble down a Highland ravine would send her plunging into an underground cavern — to land atop the most devastatingly seductive man she’d ever seen? Or that once he’d kissed her, he wouldn’t let her go?
Bound to Drustan by a passion stronger than time, Gwen is swept back to sixteenth-century Scotland, where a treacherous enemy plots against them ... and where a warrior with the power to change history will defy time itself for the woman he loves....
Customer Reviews:
This is my favorite romance story.......2007-10-09
I absolutely loved this book and have read it many time. This my favorite so far for Karen's highlander series. I can't wait for her to write more. These guys are hot!
Good book, good author, good series!.......2007-09-11
I'm usually pretty picky about what kind of romance novels I read. There are so many talented authors out ther but at the same time there are quite a few that I would rather write the novel myself that have to read their version.
I think that this author and her "Highlander" series is great. You can find more information on the order of her books to read on her website. There really isn't a set order that you'd want to read these novels but they do follow a time line and it is a good idea to try to read them in the order they were published. This particular book is one of the first novels in the series.
This particular author tends to stick with the big hulking men for her heros but so far I've really liked all of her heroines. She tries to put real emotion into her books and I think that for the most part she does a great descriptive job. Her sex scenes are a little more steamy than average which can be great for some people but not so great for others. I thought they were mostly tasteful. She does dabble in time travel and the Fae (fairy) idea... which if you don't like than stay away from her books. She keeps it reasonable but it does take a strech of the imagination.
Happy reading!
Excellent.......2007-09-07
This is a book not to miss in your collection of Karen Moning. It is the first of a continued story line and one that I have read twice because its so good. Yes it's a romance novel but it has enough interesting story line to not be overtly sexual. Good Read.
Excellent, unput-downable reading!.......2007-08-08
Karen Moning won the RITA for her stunning book The Highlander's Touch, and this one ranks right up there, I'm sure. Highland laird Drustan MacKelter is given a magical potion to make him sleep forever, unless he's awaked by sunlight and blood (!). The villains tuck him away in a cave deep beneath a Loch, considering no-one will ever find him. Centuries later Gwen Cassidy goes hiking and accidentally falls through a fissure which causes a cave-in. She lands smack onto Drustan's chest, bleeding, surrounded by a nimbus of sunlight. Guess who wakes up, and is rather stunned to discover himself in the 20th century? Gwen, on the other hand, thinks he's a total lunatic, running around in authentic costume with goodness knows how many extremely authentic knives and other lethal instruments hanging off him. He's a Hunk in the first degree, however, and she's come to Scotland to - uh - find a `cherry-picker'. Use your imagination to fill in the gaps here. Drustan appears to be the best candidate to date, so she's not about to lose sight of him just yet, even though he acts like a total loony when faced with ordinary civilization - cars, restaurants, etc. The scene in the clothes shop where he's trying on jeans is hysterical! He considers no man in his right mind would ever ever try to stuff himself into such an instrument of torture. No wonder there's not many children running around, he surmises - the trews have robbed all men of their manhood. He's lustily intrigued by Gwen, but he's also desperate to get back to his own time: he's aware a terrible evil lurks there and his people are in danger. As Gwen gradually comes to the realization that maybe - just maybe - he's not blowing hot air, the story accelerates from an already break-neck pace into a race against time. In a wonderful twist, Drustan has the power to change history, but will he also be able to keep his love? The lovers' dilemma of who-will-stay and who-will-go is poignant, and the resolution most unexpected. This guy must surely win the Hunk Of The Month Award. Go ahead and enjoy the best he-man ever, teamed with a feisty, give-no-quarter heroine.
Highlanders forever.......2007-07-04
Karen Marie Moning has written this series with great love of the Highlanders and their ancient secrets. I love the romance and the humor and would recommend this book to anyone, not just romance fans.

Book Description
A Warrior Of Immortal Powers
He was a mighty Scottish warrior who lived in a world bound by ancient laws and timeless magic. But no immortal powers could prepare the laird of Castle Brodie for the lovely accursed lass who stood before him. A terrible trick of fate had sent her 700 years back in time and into his private chamber to tempt him with her beauty—and seduce him with a desire he could never fulfill. For this woman he burned to possess was also
the woman he had foresworn to destroy.
A Woman Caught In The Mists Of Time
When Lisa felt the earth move under her feet, the fiercely independent 21st-century woman never dreamed she was falling...into another century. But the powerful, naked warrior who stood glaring down at her was only too real...and too dangerously arousing. Irresistibly handsome he might be, but Lisa had no intention of remaining in this savage land torn by treachery and war. How could she know that her seductive captor had other plans for her...plans that would save her from a tragic fate? Or that this man who had long ago forsaken love would defy time itself to claim her for his own....
Customer Reviews:
A piece of the Adam Black puzzle.......2007-09-01
Lisa touches a Celtic artifact while snooping in the museum director's office, and is catapulted back in time to the fourteenth century, into the clutches of Circenn, a warrior laird. Naturally Lisa is a babe, and Circenn a sensual hunk, and they have immediate chemistry, but...there's a problem. Actually Lisa has her impediments in modern time, and Circenn has his own.
Karen Marie Moning's Highlander time travel romances tell varying versions of the familiar fish-out-of-water story: modern women in medieval Scotland, ancient gods running amok in the US Midwest. An aspect that sets them apart is the background story arc of the Fae. The Fae are the faries of old - full-sized human-form beings, no wings, but magical powers. There's a king, a powerful Queen, and Adam Black. Adam Black is Puck, by another of his names. He's Coyote, the trickster, who can also be unexpectedly compassionate. Adam Black is clearly a favorite of the author as he appears in several of the books and is the romantic lead in The Immortal Highlander.
Moning's Highlander novels are good romantic fun, definitely formed from the same mold, but it's a sturdy mold. It's not necessary to read them in order, although after you have read a couple you will be wondering how the characters fit together. There are family relationships among the human and Fae characters that it enhances the experience to be aware of.
If you like non-scholarly historical romances with a supernatural flair and some good bedroom scenes, you will enjoy The Highlander's Touch.
Excellent writing.......2007-08-26
Consistently excellent writing skills. Good character development. The plot lines of Moning's books are always fresh and new. I dearly lover her work!
If you need a fix for Highland Romance .......2007-06-06
This is my favorite of Karen Monings books. I disappeared into this book and forgot where i was. LOVED THIS BOOK
AWESOME BOOK - Couldn't put it down........2007-05-04
I can say enough about this book, I love it. It's romance, laughter, love, sex, romance... yes, I know I said romance twice. :)
I read this book in 4 days. That's just not usually possible for me, but I used every possible free moment to keep reading.
Anything with Adam Black is good.......2007-04-30
This is a midly entertaining book that has a secondary character who is VERY interesting. His part of the story, and his interaction with the male lead in this book is of high interest. I speak of Adam Black, who plays an important role in the 4th quarter of this book.
Otherwise this book is a disappointment. I'll not summarize the gist of the story, which is found elsewhere in these pages. I think it is a disappointment because it is sort of two stories in one, and neither developed completely, dividing your focus. The male lead is a very interesting guy, and his backstory is one of the two stories here that could have been more fully realized.
We are 'told' that Circenn is a mighty warrior, immortal powers, etc, but we get into the story, he is gone all soft with love for Lisa. We discover he had two previous wives in his long life, but somehow Lisa is 'special'. Why? At the end of the book, he is part of a (real) battle of historical significance, but we are not treated to the battle in any detail, and the build-up to that part of the story is cursory. He also has issues with his immortal father.
Instead we spend a good deal of time with Lisa, who is not very interesting. She has a dying mother, the thing that lends emotional risk to the story. Lisa has inadvertnetly traveled back in time, leaving her mother, and so there is urgency to her quest to return. She's sheltered and innocent, and she's trapped in the castle of the Laird. There is a sexual awakening, but because she's so emotionally closed, missing her mother, the tension doesn't sizzle. Circenn is a nice guy, but there is more tension for him, as I mentioned above, every time the character Adam Black shows up.
Even though this is a time-travel novel, the aspects of different centuries - the fact that Circenn was born 500 years before and is really from the 9th century, though currently living in the 14th century; Lisa is from the 21 century, and at the end they both come to the contemporary time - these potentially fascinating cultural clashes were not explored in any depth. For heaven's sake - the English language is vastly different in those three centuries, yet all the characters talk as if the time were the 21 century. Gender issues, and even clothing were very different in all three of these centuries, yet none of those issue were explored. Kirtles (the dresses women wore in those days) vs pants for example? For a 500 year old guy, Circenn is very emotionally intelligent, and it just doesn't fit. How did he get that way? Where did he get the wisdom (in midieval times real men definitely did NOT each quiche) to understand all the emotion and healing the Lisa needs to do - to be able to discuss it with Lisa in terms she can understand? There were no psychologists in those days.
Those criticisms aside, the story, at bottom, is very sweet, with Circenn finally waking up to the fact that Lisa is a care-giver with an urgent need, and how he comes to terms with 'taking care of her'. The sex scenes are hot! And for anyone interested in The Highlander's as a series, this story is a must-have for filling in details of characters found in other installments of the series.
Adam Black's story continues in Immortal Highlander.

Another HOT installment in this series.......2007-08-18
Well this book didn't disappoint me at all. If you've read previous books in this series, then you know who Adam Black is. And the heroine that the author matched him with is a strong and perfect match for him. A must have if you like this series!
Seductive.......2007-08-11
I will never think of Faeries in the same way! The Immortal Highlander will seduce you as it leads you across time and space on a passionate adventure full of mythical beings and never-ending love. I will go back and read the rest of the series because I enjoyed Moning's style of writing. She has a wonderful talent for blending fantasy with reality. Thank you for introducing me to the Highlander series.
Immortal Highlander - Highlander Series.......2007-08-09
What can I say? Of all the books in the highlander series, this is the one that I swooned over. KMM does a fantastic job of connecting her novels, yet making sure that they work as stand alone novels as well. I was very cranky when I found that she was finished with the series and starting Dark Fever. After becoming so attached to her characters, especially Adam Black (who can be found in the first of the series), I didn't want the stories to end. Adam is and has been my favorite character since Beyond the Highland Mist. Even then, I was rooting for him - the bad guy! Karen describes him so well, that even with no picture of any kind, I can see each detail of his face and figure. Indeed, what a lovely figure it is. Adam and his antics are amusing, frustrating, captivating, and wonderfully masculine. In this book you come to find him to be so much more than a detached and arrogant Fae with too much testosterone. If I could own only one of KMM's novels, this would be it. Luckily for me, I managed to get my hands on all of them.
I love a sexy Highlander!.......2007-08-09
This book did not disappoint me but I truly love all her books. Great characters - real characters - and a wonderful story line.
Adam is super hot.......2007-07-16
All I gotta say is that Karen Marie Moning knows how to build sexual tension in a book. I've read this book no less than 4 times and it is still hot!! Adam is sexy, confident and arrogant, but you still love him. If I had Gaby's ability to see super hot fairies, I would've been running to them instead of away!!! I'm glad that Adam got to have his own story, but sad that he won't appear in any future books. He's my favorite characer in the Highlander series.

But when a split-second decision saves her from a terrifying attempt on her life, Jessi suddenly finds herself confronting six and a half feet of smoldering, insatiable alpha male.
Heir to the arcane magic of his Druid ancestors, eleven centuries ago Cian MacKeltar was trapped inside the Dark Glass, one of four coveted Unseelie Hallows, objects of unspeakable power. When the Dark Glass is stolen, an ancient enemy will stop at nothing to reclaim it, destroying everything in his path–including the one woman who may just hold the key to breaking the ninth-century Highlander’s dark spell. For Jessi, the muscle-bound sex god in the mirror is not only tantalizingly real, he’s offering his protection–from exactly what, Jessi doesn’t know. And all he wants in exchange is the exquisite pleasure of sharing her bed.
Yet even as Cian’s insatiable hunger begins to work its dark magic on Jessi, his ancient enemy is about to obtain the final and most dangerous of the Unseelie Hallows–and the ninth-century Highlander must stop him from getting it. Nothing less than the very fabric of the universe and two passionately entwined lives are at stake–as Cian and Jessi fight to claim the kind of love that comes along but once in an ice age. . . .

Karen Moning makes the characters believable. I love the inserts at the end of the book. She needs to write more books.
LOVE IT.......2007-09-13
I am a sucker for these paranormal romance novels. I love the idea of being able to travel in time, to see things as they used to be. That love can win over everything. I think these novels take me back to romance novels of before as well. With the warring personalities. I like how strong Karen's characters are. Some times they get bogged down a bit with the emotional upheaval and their stubborness, but ultimately prevail in the end. I have enjoyed all of her books and now impatiently await the new ones!!!
Whoa!!.......2007-08-28
This is the first book I've read by Ms Moning and I must say I'm quite impressed. With an amazingly delectable hero, a captivating heroine, and a playful, stay-up-till 2am story, this is a definite treat! Even though it is the 7th book in the Highlander series, I didn't feel disconnected and I can't wait to read the previous books in the series.
Thank you Ms Moning for this irresistible time-travel romp!
First Read, absolutely stood up after reading al!.......2007-07-04
I read this book first in the series and then read the rest of them. I'm a sucker for romance, for intelligence and for poignancy and this had them all. When you let yourself think about anybody surviving 1100 years in a mirror and then imagine some of the horror and then the agony of finally having his shot at revenge and yet at the same time being faced with the dream he'll never have...well, it's powerful hard to put down.
LOVED Cian. I think that he and Adam and Adam's son were my absolute faves. The others were oh so close behind.
Sexy and fun--if you can suspend your disbelief.......2007-06-13
The hero has been trapped in a mirror for over one thousand years. Despite his curse, Cian manages to seduce the heroine and save the day. I enjoyed this book immensely, but only recommend it to readers who can suspend their disbelief about magic.

Book Description
He would sell his warrior soul to possess her. . . .
An alluring laird...
He was known throughout the kingdom as Hawk, legendary predator of the battlefield and the boudoir. No woman could refuse his touch, but no woman ever stirred his heart—until a vengeful fairy tumbled Adrienne de Simone out of modern-day Seattle and into medieval Scotland. Captive in a century not her own, entirely too bold, too outspoken, she was an irresistible challenge to the sixteenth-century rogue. Coerced into a marriage with Hawk, Adrienne vowed to keep him at arm's length—but his sweet seduction played havoc with her resolve.
A prisoner in time...
She had a perfect "no" on her perfect lips for the notorious laird, but Hawk swore she would whisper his name with desire, begging for the passion he longed to ignite within her. Not even the barriers of time and space would keep him from winning her love. Despite her uncertainty about following the promptings of her own passionate heart, Adrienne's reservations were no match for Hawk's determination to keep her by his side. . . .

Beyond the Highland Mist.......2007-09-21
I love movies that make you cry, but when a book can do that to me! That's some author.
Okay.........2007-08-20
Well I love Karen Marie Moning's Highlander books. They are all really good!! however, this book made me mad. Hawk was a jerk, and Adrinne was just playing him for most of the book. If you want to read of good Moning book pick another one.
BTHM - highlander series.......2007-08-09
I found this book on my mother's shelf years ago, read it out of boredom, and I now own the entire series. I found that the plot for Beyond the Highland Mist was interesting, the characters were captivating (ooooh that lovely Adam Black!) and the sexual scenes were steamy enough for even me to blush a bit. I haven't read a whole lot of other authors, but those that I have read don't compare to KMM, even in this first novel. I recommend this book and the rest of the series to anyone who enjoys a good book to whisk them away from their life (at least for an hour or two). As to the comments of the heroine being a drag on the book because of her attitude towards Hawk Douglas... pooey. If you are paying attention, KMM goes into detail describing how the lovely Adrienne ended up with a poor opinion of "beautiful men". Get this book, send the kids to bed, and enjoy!
oh those highland boys!.......2007-06-27
I am completely hooked on the highlander series by Moning. It has everything you could want out of a romance novel. Buy it, but let me warn you, you had better have the rest of the series on hand because you'll want to keep reading and reading them!
Hot dude, weak plot.......2007-03-18
Beyond the Highland Mist is author Karen Moning's first foray into Highland time travel romance, a surprisingly well-populated subgenre. In this story, it's the woman who is the "fish out of water". Adrienne de Simone is hurled from the 20th century to the 16th, because the King and Queen of the Faeries are having a marital spat. The Queen of Fae has been admiring a particular handsome mortal who is incredibly handsome, well-endowed in the love department, and has the gift of charming and satisfying any woman he chooses. The King of Fae has the mischevious Adam Black find to punish Hawk Douglas by locating a woman for him who will be immune to his charms. They decide a modern woman will be a better bet. Adrienne fits the bill - she's smart, independent, and has sworn off men, having just been burned in romance. The Fae arrange it so that Adrienne is the woman Hawk has never seen but sworn to his king to marry. Luckily Hawk is secretly the nesting type, having equipped his castle with some impressive somewhat anachronistic comforts. All he needs is the right woman...
This book is not as complex and inventive as the later books in the series, but still enjoyable. Moning's sex scenes are highly charged and Adrienne is a sympathetic character.
As the series develops, you can see Moning becoming increasingly interested in the character of Adam Black. He finally gets his own book after six more books. That's what made me go back and start from the beginning, even though the books stand well on their own.

The Great Rip-Off.......2007-03-15
I wonder ... nobody noticed up to now that Mrs. Kenyon's story is a huge (and for me also a scandalous) rip-off? Just read "Lysistrata" by Aristophanes and if you see anything different to the main story (beside the scotish accent that is) let me know.
Sorry Mrs Kenyon but next time you have no inspiration whatsoever, try not to steal ideas from ancient (and extremely famous I may add) Greek writers only because it's easy and you pay no copyright fees. But if you cannot resist the temptation, at least mention in your book that your story is inspired (yea, right!) by this or that particular play and this or that particular author. So bad bad commentors like me cannot accuse you of stealing anymore.
P.S.: Try a search in Amazon under "Lysistrata" and enjoy the real thing :-)
Could have been better.......2006-09-05
I was so looking forward to this novel, but after reading it was alittle disappointed. Not alot mind you just alittle. I thought the plot (the woman forsaking their men everything) alittle farfetched. Why would the woman listen to a spinster is beyond me. Maggie has been in love with Braden forever and he is the all time ladies man. Braden helps Maggie go to there enemies land to try to reason with the laird there - alittle farfetched again. Along this journey he begins to fall for Maggie - well of course she is the only female around for miles on end. On and on the journey goes. Finally we arive at the end of their journey and the ending was just flat. The part with the little boy was just farfetched again. And when Braden gets mad at Maggie - whatever - he is a warrior is he not supposed to defend those weaker than he. By reading this review I am not giving anything away - there is no mystery to this novel. This author usually writes so much better than this. I just felt disappointed again and again with the plot and not so intresting characters.
A fun and witty battle of the sexes.......2006-06-08
In the first book featuring the delectable MacAllister brothers, meet their youngest, Braden. Handsome as sin and more dangerous than the devil himself, Braden has women swooning at his feet from the time he reached manhood. Therefore, on the day he returns to Scotland to hear the news that the village shrew has rallied the women and led them all into hiding, threatening to stop serving the men unless they end their feud with a neighboring clan, his brothers agreed that Braden may be the answer to their prayers. With his seduction skills, angelic looks and renowned negotiation skills, aye, Braden will definitely have the little hellion feeding from his hand in next to no time... or so they thought...
Having lost her brothers' lives through the ongoing feud between the MacAllisters and MacDouglas, Maggie ingen Blar decides enough is enough. Knowing that the only way to knock some sense into the men's heads is by denying them everything, she takes the risk of earning the men's wrath and convinces the women of both clans to go into hiding. Everything was going according to plan until Braden appears at the doorstep.
Ever since she was a child, she has yearned for him to look at her the way he looked at other women. Yet it seems that her brother was right when he said that she was the type of woman to whom men turn to for advice, the kind they develop friendship with. With Braden's sudden appearance, she goes week at the knees despite knowing that his seduction attempts are made to convince her to give up her plan. So how long can she resist this magnificent highlander?
After my delight with MASTER OF DESIRE, I couldn't wait to start reading this book. CLAIMING THE HIGHLANDER is a light and fun story featuring a delectable and oh-so-charming hero and a redheaded hellion for a heroine. I liked the premise of the story and really delighted in being introduced to the MacAllister brothers. Braden's good looks come with a really fun personality, and I enjoyed the sexual innuendos and witty exchanges between him and Maggie. I liked the fact that Maggie wasn't made out to be the village beauty, but rather someone who is passably attractive and has secretly been in love with Braden since she was a child.
Although the middle part of the book dragged a bit, CLAIMING THE HIGHLANDER is an entertaining book filled with witty dialogues and characters that you will wish to read about.
Next up is BORN IN SIN, which I guarantee is even better than this.
A Rainy day book.............2006-01-11
I love this book, it took sometime to start getting into but worth the read when you have read the other books about the brothers and you get to know them its worth the read Sin for me in this book was very good even though he wasn't the hero...
Everybody has a different opinion when writting a review if we all had the same reviews or opinions it would be boring. Reviews can sometimes down play a really good book or up play a really bad book its up to us to read the book and judge for ourselfs and draw our own conclusion thats the best thing about a review its like a silent debate....
Charming.......2005-12-01
CLAIMING THE HIGHLANDER is a light and fluffy tale of romance in medieval Scotland. I generally prefer more serious, historically accurate historicals, but this book was a delight to read. The witty humor and snappy prose pulled me through this fun, sweet story and left me feeling happy and uplifted for the rest of the day.
The strength of this story is most defintiely the heroine, Maggie ingen Blar. She's not the village beauty whom every man lusts for. In fact she's been picked on most of her life for being so plain. But she's intelligent, witty, and knows how to handle the stubborn Scotsmen she has to live with.
She's been in love with Braden MacAllister since childhood and has never stopped loving him all the years he's been away. When he returns to his village to try and undo the havoc Maggie has wreaked in an attempt to end a bloody clan war, there's something about her that gets under his skin. She's no longer the irritating girl he left behind years ago. Braden is a beautiful man who can have any woman he wants, yet he finds this rather plain lass totally irresistible. He fights his feelings for her, but her inner beauty is so great it captures his heart and she becomes utterly beautiful in his eyes.
Yes, this story is fluff, and many aspects could have been more well developed, but it's a worthy read. This story has a core of truth to the nature and meaning of real love. And it's just plain fun!
4 stars.

Great read.......2006-03-16
This book was very intertaining and lived up to the great read the ones before it was.

Excellent book in a great series. Very well written with characters who capture your imagination.
Tempting the Highlander.......2006-02-22
Loved this book. Must read all the books in this story line to appreciate. Each one feeds off the next - but each is good on its own. Very enjoyable read!
Pretty good but a bit less romance than the others.......2005-04-27
Despite the criticisms offered by others, I quite liked this book. I do agree there was less romance in this book of the series and the heroine was a bit "blah" but I basically liked Robbie's story and the intertwining of the other characters from the other 3 books. And just enough magic to keep it interesting. I particularly liked the candle lighting incident at the end of the book caused by their spontaneous erotic combustion. It certainly made me giggle a bit!
I don't think it was the best of the series but it was still a very enjoyable book altho I suspect I wouldn't have liked it as much if I hadn't read the other books first.
No Romance To Speak Of...........2005-04-21
Robbie, who was a great guy, by the way, and Catherine, who was pretty but uninspiring, didn't even hug til page 190, and the book wasn't that long! I didn't feel much of a connection between Robbie and Cat, but it might not have been their fault. The blame lies with the story-line, which could have been a LOT better. To have so many characters as this book did, including Cat's 2 kids, Robbie's 4 foster sons, and Robbie's rather large family, AND the ever-present priest, Daar, you'd think something would have clicked to make this book interesting, but unfortunately it fell short. The other Higlander books were great.

Book #4 in the mackeage series.......2007-08-13
This is Winter's story. She's the reason the wizard thru Duncan in the future to begin with. She was forecasted to be born the 7th daughter, etc etc to save the world.
Here is her story. All grown up.
I liked this story. Winter was an artist that had "animal" friends and mystical abilities. The wizzard was trying to train her to take his place, but had to do so in secrete because Duncan (Winter's father) forbid it.
The older men that were thrown thru time in book #1 were always afraid the wizzard would accidentally send them back.
Anyway, this was a good read. Nice romance with likeable characters.
I'm big on having likeable characters....LOL It's hard to like a book if you don't like the characters, eh?
I hate wimpy women.......2006-12-29
This book made me so mad. i can't buy that the heroine was so swept away by passion that she let the "hero" treat her this way. This is the person whose hands the fate of the world rest in. Boy are we in trouble. I got about halfway through the book and then ended up throwing it across the room. don't waste your time.
loved it!.......2006-08-24
I enjoyed this one so much I've had to buy the rest of them! :)

Captivating Memoir of Repeated First Contacts in New Guinea - With Photos.......2007-01-06
Michael Leahy, James Taylor and their indigenous crews searched for gold in the New Guinea Highlands during the 1930's. They found perhaps a million previously unknown people of some 5,000 different tribes speaking 2,000 different languages - each tribe isolated by mutually enforced strict boundaries. When Leahy first entered the Highlands in 1930 he took a camera but rarely used it - by 1933 he saw himself as not only a gold prospector and entrepreneur but an explorer with an unparalleled opportunity to document a unique event. In 1980 the authors found some 5,000 professional quality 35mm photos and several hours of 16mm videos. This resulted in a TV documentary and this book which presents dozens of the more spectacular photos.
The exhilaration of first contact between modern explorers and people from primitive culture is replayed repeatedly as Leahy and Taylor travel with the impunity that the tribal folks cannot - with the security of their guns always at hand. They admit to causing 40-50 native fatalities when things got out of control.
Authors Connolly and Anderson interviewed not only the explorers, but many of the New Guineans who remembered the first contacts. It was easier than you might think. All they had to do was retrace the paths of Leahy and Taylor, well-documented in their journals and photos. When kids invariably welcomed them to a village, usually similarly named from 50 years before, they just asked to speak to the old people.
Captivating photos document the emotions of the "discovered" on every third or fourth page of this remarkable memoir. Definitely worth reading.
