Parody: The Final Frontier
Now you can cruise the most hilarious sector of the space-time continuum, with this collection of twenty Star Trek: The Next Generation episodes not by the leading lights of the Western literary tradition: James Joyce, Ernest Hemingway, Jackie Collins...
Steven Boyett transports you into the sort of alternative universes and avid reader or Trekker would love:
- a Clancy-like realm where the Enterprise crew mobilizes to fix Captain Picard's broken watch
- a Heller-esque domain where you can only get out of Starfleet if you're crazy--and, if you want to get out of Starfleet, you're clearly not crazy
- a Collins-ish netherworld where Counselor Demanda Troi sleeps and shops her way around the galaxy
- a Melvillean place where Moby Trek lies in wait
...and many more.
Boldly go where no one has gone before with this stellar combination of high art and high comedy.

trekbaby.......2007-01-14
This will be the funniest StarTrek book you'll ever read! I bought one the year it came out at DragonCon, read the entire book there and hurt myself laughing. Since then I've purchased several copies to give to friends and they feel it is hilarious as well! Keep on Trekin'
Cute idea...not that great in execution.......2005-05-02
The author, Mr. Boyett, definitely has his literary background down pat. He's managed to capture the look but not the soul of each of the writers that he portrays. But the book is banal, the stories aren't very good. They're like one trick ponies, one joke stories that go on for too long.
The Star Trek elements will have the inner geek in you smiling but that's about the limit.
BTW, the only story in the book that I kind of liked was the Anne Rice Parody, the Vampire LeForge. That was pretty funny.
Pleasant romp from Boyett. At last something new from him........2004-08-30
Some folks have bashed this confection because they were unfamiliar with the authors and stories parodied here. Shame. What you haven't read is your own problem, and the literati chosen for this series of parodies comes from a high school reading list. In other wrods, Boyett chose carefully to make the collection of parodies accessible to the kind of people who like to read and who actually finished their Sr. High reading lists.
So, why buy this? Well, you only need to get it if you totally dig Star Trek AND you totally dig good literature. Those two things are pre-requisite. Of course, you can trump them both if you are just a fan of Steven R. Boyett, as am I. What he accomplishes here is cool and fun, and hopefully it will whet you appetite for things more cool, more fun, and far more compelling in his novels *Ariel* and *The Architect of Sleep.*
Gleeful entertainment.......2001-08-31
One of the best--and most literate--Star Trek texts out there, this collection of short parodies should be enjoyable to any reasonably-well-read Star Trek fan.
The only thing to note is to be sure you're familiar with most of the authors involved before you read the parodies, as the true fun is in seeing how successfully Boyett mimics many different styles, from pitch-perfect Tom Robbins to superb faux Joyce (!) to Anne Rice, to J.D. Salinger, to...
STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID.......2001-04-30
Thank God that Gene Roddenberry is dead. If he wasn't, then this would absolutely kill him. As it is, he is probably turning over in his grave. From the way that this was written, it is obvious that Paramount had nothing to do with it, nor did they authorize it either. As far as paradies go, this is the absolute worst. I ordered this book thinking that it was one of the regular books that come out every month. Boy, was I mistaken!!! I returned it as fast as I could.

I agree with Nancy and Aurora completely!!!!!!.......2002-01-05
While Ms. Bird made me worried as one or two of her books were shaky, this one is well written. Cooper learns something about Jane, Annie learns something about her family, and Tyler wants to get back together with Kate. Cooper's mom is having a bit of trouble with the whold divorce thing, Kate confronts her brother, and Annie gets totally freaked by astrology. Well, I'm sure there are things I've left out, but you should read the book if you want details and answers! Later!
*sigh*.......2001-12-28
Cooper learns something new and shocking about her new friend Jane. Something that she knows she must keep secret. But then Cooper accidentally lets the secret out to her friends. And Jane finds out. Will Jane be able to forgive her? Will Cooper be able to cope with the new discovery?
Annie finds out that her aunt and Grayson (her favorite author) are getting married. But with that marriage, her aunt tells her a secret. One that will change Annie's life as she knows it.
Kate is given another chance with Tyler. He is asking if they can go back to the way they were. What will Kate say? Will her decision effect her and Tyler?
Yes. Good. REALLY wierd revelation with Annie though. I TOTALLY never expected that. So, as i always say, read and find out ;)
)))))~~)O(Aurora)O(~~(((((
Back on track.......2001-12-26
With the start of a new year, Cooper, Annie, and Kate are faced with both new and old challenges. To start off the new year, their wicca class teaches them about astrology, the study of the stars. Copper and Kate think it's cool but Annie is disturbed by it. IS everything just written in the stars? Dose she have any control over her life? But through this study Annie discovers something new and shocking. There may just be another piece of her parents left in the world. Cooper faces a new challenge when she finds out something new about her friend Jane. When she makes a horrible mistake, can Jane ever forgive her? And how will Kate deal when she's given another chance with Tyler. Has she forgiven him yet to love him again? Is she even ready.
After the last few books the Circle of Three series has remained, though entertaining, a little less special. But this one has brought the books up to the same level of entertainment that was seen in Blue Moon and the Five Paths (my two favorites). I'm glad to see Isobel Bird is back on track. I can't wait until the next book, And it Harm none, comes out. It looks really good. Enjoy!

Book Description
WRITTEN IN THE STARS Katiah 2 WHEN PASSION ALONE RULES THE HEART... Brehan Tucker?s recurring blackouts and bouts of temper, set the crew of the Stellar on edge and further distances her from her estranged husband, Erth. Not only must she battle her inner demons, but suffer the wrath of Erth?s half brother, Zanus-Roul, who has declared war on the occupants of the thru-space craft for entering his domain. Before she can fully recover from this assault, she finds herself pitted against Erth?s ex-lover, Lanulee, who transports Brehan back to Earth, and into the diabolical hands of the headmistress of the orphanage where she was raised. At long last, Erth admits there is more to Brehan than temper, fortitude and beauty. She is not only his averse wife and the reluctant mother of his children, she is someone, he discovers, he cannot emotionally separate from. Too late, he realizes he has been snagged in a cunning trap. Within his woman resides a counterpart, Di'me, who was created and conditioned to destroy not only the Earth women he abducted and the Syre men he raised from infancy, but himself and the Guardians of Haveth. Love wielded a shield of denial. Now it must serve as a sword of justice.

Cheesy............2006-10-05
I was a big Nan Ryan fan since I was a teenager (though these books are NOT for kids! My parents were not very strict!) mainly because of her detailed love scenes and hot, Native American hunks with flowing black hair. As far as steamy love scenes go, Nan Ryan can't be beat! I must say some of the parts of this book really got me going, while other parts were pretty weak. I found the plot really unrealistic and it took some very odd turns as if Nan tried to squish two totally different stories together trying to make one long story. The ending was cheeseball and the characters came off contrived. Luv Ya Nan but, I think you ran out of good ideas on this one!
westernized Beauty and the Beast.......2003-02-15
In 1895, Benjamin Star leaves San Francisco for Denver at about the same time that Diane Buchannan leaves DC for the Mile High City. Benjamin was raised by the Shoshoni who rescued him from a fire as an infant, travels like a native; Diane rides the train to join her grandparents who raised her when her parents died. Diane plans to help her beloved family with the financially failing "Colonel Buck Buchannan's Wild West Show" as a trick rider and lariat artist.
Employees of the show led by the Cherokee Kid bring in a savage dubbed "the Redman of the Rockies". Though afraid of him, Diane feels sorry for the captive. Unable to ignore the ignorant brute, she frees him, but he abducts her. On their trek she pleads with the "Beast" to free her when he suddenly speaks perfect English because he is Benjamin. After overcoming the shock that he is not some feral savage, Diane frees the attraction she hid from herself and soon she and Benjamin fall in love. However, the nasty Cherokee Kid wants Diane for himself and he will not stop until he kills the Beast and takes the Beauty his style.
Indian romance readers will gain much pleasure from Nan Ryan's latest tale, WRITTEN IN THE STARS that is more of a westernized Beauty and the Beast. The action-packed story line never slows down even before the abduction. The lead couple is a delight and most of the support cast provides depth to their personalities. However, the Cherokee Kid is so nasty he subtracts from a powerful historical romance.

BEAUTIFUL! THE PLOT IS EXCEPTIONAL!.......1999-07-22
Like the other reader before me stated in his review, the story started out a little slow...But that all changed as soon as the Redman of the Rockies came into the Wild West Show, and Diane finds herself helplessly compelled to the man. A MUST READ! This has to be one of the best romances I have ever read!
Still one of the best!.......1999-03-17
The beginning of the story was a little slow, however, things soon picked up and ended with a bang! Great, great romance scenes!

Book Description
This study of ancient astrology attempts to explain why zodiac mosaics appear in Israeli synagogues. More broadly, it explains how and why Hellenic Jews used astrology. This volume explores origins of synagogue mosaics and provides useful information concerning astrology around the world.
Customer Reviews:
The book is a poor introduction to the Zodiac Mosaics........2004-06-23
The book consists mainly of booklists, and if that is what you are after, it is the book for you. The star given is mainly for the booklist, because the author is clearly not very well versed in his subject.
Simple names are missing in the lists, and conclusions often fails to be correct because the author is guessing - and from lack of correct background information, he is not very good at it. - Some statements are simply wrong.
The author admits not to know much about the Chinese Zodiac - the correct term would have been that he knows even less about the Chinese Zodiac.
Very pictures are shown of the mosaics, you can get better ones from searching the web in fact. The few pictures shown are in black and white and not tecnical adequate for a book boasting of showing the mosaics. The few drawings do not make up for the actual lack of Mosaics.
I recieved a copy of the book in a black cloth binding, and there may be a discrepancy in the book shown and the book I got, but I doubt it.
Becoming a CLASSIC resource!.......2003-01-12
Published only a few years ago, and still in print, this work has already become THE classic resource for the history of astrology especially as it pertains to Jewish faith and practices. Dr. Ness is the ultimate expert in this field and his study is essential.
A masterful study of ZODIAC mosaics and their meaning!.......2002-12-05
Dr. Ness has provided us with the most complete resource for the study of zodiac mosaics in Synagogues and of the history of astrology in general. This book is a must have for all Jewish scholors and astrologers alike!
A Serious Look at Astrology.......1999-12-02
When I found this book, I knew nothing about the serious study or history of astrology. I was amazed to learn a great deal from this study. Dr. Ness presents an engaging, readable, and often humorous look at astrology and Jewish synagogue mosaics. The illustrations are useful and the annotated bibliography is a great resource!

Katherine O'Neal takes readers on a sensual, swashbuckling adventure in this over-the-top romance in the vein of Raiders of the Lost Ark, set in Victorian England and exotic Egypt. Diana Sanbourne faces a disturbing dilemma. To fulfill her father's dying wish and find the lost treasure he spent his life pursuing, she must win the help of a man she detests--Jack Rutherford. Diana and Jack once were childhood companions, then passionate lovers, but ever since his betrayal on the eve of their wedding, Diana has vowed to resist his charms. Now only Jack, an infamous hunter of antiquities, has the daring and expertise Diana needs to elude a wily pasha, breech an underground labyrinth, and reclaim the three statues--Cleopatra's cats--that hold clues to the whereabouts of the mythic treasure. What O'Neal sacrifices in period authenticity she more than makes up for in inventive plot twists, vividly imagined scenes, and an intense romantic relationship--with lovemaking in the shadows of the pyramids no less! It's all great fun. --Ellen Edwards
Book Description
He is her sworn enemy. She is the prize he wants above all.

Now he's a rogue hunter of ancient relics, with the daring and instincts that could lead to the fabled treasure her father asked her to find. Yet even as he joins her on her quest--one that will lead from England's shadowy underworld to a treacherous distant land--Diana must guard not only her life but her heart. For Jack makes it clear he intends to reclaim her for his own. And she is just as determined not to surrender.
Customer Reviews:
What a disappointment!.......2000-08-17
I purchased this book because of the amazon reviews and because it had won an RITA award. I really wanted to like it but was very disappointed. The plot was weak with many implausible twists and turns. I especially disliked the relationship between the two main characters: Jack lied to Diane, never opened up to her (more exposition to the readers than to the woman he was in love with) and did a really incredible 180 degree change that was totally unbelievable. Diane was a weak character, very malleable, allowing herself to be used and abused by Jack without any real strengths. The review seems harsh due to the disappointment of such a great concept leading to such a poor execution.
FUN, SEXY, ADVENTUROUS--A MUST READ!.......1999-04-14
If you love steamy romance and romantic adventure, this is the book you've been waiting for. Katherine O'Neal is the best romance writer writing today. This book is fun, fresh, sexy, adventurous, and you won't feel that you've read it before. Do yourself a favor and get it now!
Another Great One from Katherine........1998-10-27
In several respects this seemed a very different sort of story for Katherine, yet always her unique style. Her sensual scenes are still some of the best out there.
Full of turns and twists, one can overlook the seemingly superhuman feats performed by Jack and Diana, which could leave you tongue-in-cheek. But the story is so good I didn't care, simply enjoyed the fantasy of Katherine's furtile mind. Besides, it's okay to be larger than life in fiction.
Katherine's stories will turn you wrongside out with passion, and that's the kind of romance we all dream about. -Lee Emory
The queen of romantic adventure does it again.......1998-08-24
In 1894 London, Jack Rutherford and Diana Sanbourne, the children of famous archeologists, are to be married in two days. They even make love for the first time in the British Museum. On their wedding day, Jack is arrested for stealing and selling artifacts from the Alexandria Collection. This leads to the death of his father and the bankruptcy of his family. This betrayal to archeology and herself is the one thing that Diana could not forgive him.
Five years pass and Diana's father Stafford is dying just as he has come close to uncovering the legendary Anthony-Cleopatra "Love Treasure", considered a myth by his peers. Before Stafford dies, he sends word to Diana, pleading with her to complete his quest and exonerate his reputation. She knows that she must honor her father's request. However, Diana also knows only one man, the acrimonious archeological rogue Jack can accomplish this. When they meet for the first time since that ill fated wedding day, the sparks fly, but neither trusts the other because they feel let down by their soulmate.
Take Indiana Jones and place him four decades earlier when archeology is still in its infancy and the reader gets a delicious taste of what WRITTEN IN THE STARS is like. The lead protagonists are a delightful duo, who must overcome their suspicions of each other if they are to find true bliss. The secondary players are a delightfully humorous, witty, and dangerous rogue's gallery. Though the romance is top rate, Katherine O'Neal's historical romantic adventure is so good because of the reverent look at nineteenth century archeology, which comes across as exciting as the RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. Katherine O'Neal is the reigning queen of the romantic adventure,

Rachel's Destiny as Written in the Stars.......2007-03-03
Rachel's Destiny was so important to me. It struck `core' issues in me in a way no book has done for a very long time. I loved the way the author blended the bible history, Astrology, the ET connection, the history of the Sumerian culture and the Goddess issues together. It was BRILLIANT! Julie Bresciani was obviously inspired from above to combine historical research and draw on what felt like the akashic memory of the feminine. A real masterpiece.
A needed perspective.......2006-11-08
I loved this book and reccommend it to others, and I am not a friend of family member of the author. One thing I enjoyed about it was the reminder that Christianity as we know it today fought for it's dominance over the very popular & prolific female &/or partnership models of the various pagan beliefs. Many historians would have us look at historical infomation as if men have always had the upper hand in power positions. They have not. This book is a helpful, empowering perspective for women learning to stand up for themselves. If you are looking for scholarly info along these lines consider reading The Chalice & the Blade by Riane Eisler.
Lost and obviously looking for our errant daddy!.......2005-11-26
I had a long flight, found this pre-owned book for cheap in a little bookstore. I hoped to settle in for an interesting read but was fairly disappointed. I don't know what "Daddy" did but as a psychotherapist, I detected huge undertones of major issues here. To take the Bible, insert various religious and astrological content, conjecture, villify men and yet try to put a love spin on things didn't jell. I can see where there might be hype from die hard feminists and some angry lesbians but even AS a lesbian, I could not stomach it. I clearly felt the obvious anger-driven anti-religious sentiment toward the author's own father, coming through the story more clearly than any plot or inspiration. Even a thinking layperson could connect the dots and see the damaging, unfaithful father and shallow, problematic daughter dance here. Too much for me and I live/work in this world every day. Not really inspiring and that's too bad because the real story of Rachel is a beautiful one, even if you don't take the Bible as gospel. In my personal opinion, Rachel's Destiny is a far fetched daydream, mildly entertaining tale based on covert anger over obviously incest-ridden, despising of Judeo-Christian and incredibly angry fantasies. NOT what I was looking for!
Ok but expected more.......2005-11-10
Formula writing and not much that grabs someone from the onset. Too bad because handled well this could have been an interesting albeit untraditional good read. I see it was self published and can appreciate why. Still, not a bad first self publication effort although it rambles all over the universe - difficult to follow.
Unoriginal Dud, Even the Feminist Perspective Cannot Make Up For A Self Published Bomb.......2005-10-15
I had hoped to dig into this with gusto as I am a fan of things written from the feminine point of view. This book was seemingly taken from everyone else's ideas and melded together in a non cohesive fashion. I am not afraid to say this book is a weak attempt at something original without the research skill and depth to pull it off. It's always a tip off when an author must self publish. After reading Ms. Bresciani's book I understood why no publishing house would touch it. I would advise that if someone is wanting to read this book they maybe buy a used copy. That way, if they are disappointed they won't kick themselves for spending more. I understand family and friends will be excited when someone they know writes a book but the glowing reviews are misleading and I felt cheated after spending $25 on a book that had one dimensional characters, borrowed story lines, unclear transitions, etc. I might read another book by this author if there;s ever another put out just hoping her skills improve and future stories are a worthwhile, original read. I still would not pay full price though.

This beautifully-produced gift includes the origins of the song, the full lyrics of Francis Scott Key, and illustrations by beloved American folk artist Susan Winget. Written by Francis Scott Key during the War of 1812 as he watched a British naval bombardment, the song became the official US national anthem in 1931. The lyrics of the song come to life for the young and young of heart with one-of-a kind scenes of battlefields, the White House and Capitol, Old Glory on the moon and at Ground Zero, and star-spangled quilts
