In the last book in the A-LIST series (American Beauty: An A-List Novel (A-List #7)), the gang had finally graduated while discovering some juicy secrets. Cammie had discovered more information on what really happened to her mother. Sam was finally reunited with Eduardo, and Anna met Caine, who was nothing like her boyfriend, Ben. And Ben's dirty little secret wasn't a secret any longer.

The A-Listers are back again in HEART OF GLASS, and this time with a little twist.

Anna and Cammie have to work together - that's right, together - on a charity fashion show. But they got off easy, since this little community service project was the result of getting caught trespassing on a celebrity's estate. No worries, these two can work together, right?

Anna and Caine are getting a little closer, while Ben doesn't seem to worry so much. While Adam and Cammie are trying to make things work, we're hoping that opposites really do attract. Sam is still trying to adjust to living with Poppy, and maybe trying to get rid of her at the same time, while making sure nothing goes wrong with her and Eduardo. And Dee, well, she's Dee, trying to get back on her feet.

The gang is back and it's going to be one sizzling summer.

Eighth in the series, HEART OF GLASS is still filled with secrets, lies, and plenty of drama. The best thing about this series is that the material is never old and it still keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat. The cast is still great and you just love Anna more and more after each book. Lets just say that HEART OF GLASS is more appealing than another episode of a certain teen drama on a new network - at least I'm experiencing something I haven't seen before!

I've been following the A-List novels since they came out a few years ago. There were tons of these book series floating around--the rich, cliquey girls who seemed to be mean and exclusionary--there were the Gossip Girls, the Clique... you get my drift.

Of all the books of that sort, A-List was the one that caught my eye. I followed it religiously for a while, but I got to one particular book in the series and almost gave up on it. The name-dropping and overall snobbery frustrated me to the point that I almost didn't give a flying ice cream cone about Anna and Ben or Dee's increasing psychosis.

Dean has redeemed herself with this last one, though. The characters are proving to be much more dimensional than first thought, and although they still tend to get themselves into outrageous situations, they are handling them with class and the kind of assertiveness I wish I'd had as a teenager. I really enjoyed this last book and I am looking forward to the "next juicy A-List novel."

I really liked this book it was a page-turner because you want to see what will happen next. I recommend this book to girls 11 and up because this book talks a lot about fashion and girl problems!

This is a great book - it hits the balance between being grounded in the best science around, yet it is easy and fun to follow. I can see from other reviews that people are using the recipes and the plans. As a dietitian and health educator, the sort of self-tests and forms in this book give people an easy way to track how they're doing, or even to learn their baseline. If you struggle with cholesterol or high blood pressure, this is a great addition to your bookself (just remember not to let it rest on the shelf too much!).

After reading this book as well as the Glusimax Index book I have changed my eating habits at work. I get 5 or 6 varieties of vegetables as well as some nuts, raisins and a small amount of lean meat. I grind everything in a blender until it looks like coleslaw. Carry to work in several large baggies - ( I walk about a mile to public transportation (BART)and then about another mile from PT to the work site ). I take with me 4 or 5 pieces of fruit also. I eat Oatmeal with frozen berries around 6AM at work, then three 1 1/2 cups worth of the vegetable blend stuff with some tobasco and oil and vinegar dressing at 10, 12 and 2. I have lost 10 lbs in the last 3 weeks. I never really feel hungry! That's the best part. Terry - OH! I stopped drinking beer & vodka on a regular basis.

This book does have some good background information about coaching. It is pretty dry though. If you want to learn about coaching, take an accredited coaching certification program. I did, and this was one of our required reads. It happened to be my least favorite and gave me very little practical information to use during a coaching session. If you want to read an inspiring, empowering book, read Breaking the Rules by Kurt Wright.

Erin Gruwell's book motivates teachers to take action. Her persistance is a key to her success. I know many teachers who are just as successful as her in teaching "at-risk" teens. Her story is famous because she turned her class into a product "The Freedom Writers" and marketed them to the world. This allowed her to get funds to finance their educational trips and college years. She was very business savy and a hustler! One of my old college professors (who taught high school English) would constantly ask corporations and local churches for support. It is true the sweaky wheel always gets the grease! Thus, if you are an extremely motivated teacher who works hard in the classroom and networks outside the classroom there are no limits.

I purchased this book and picked it up to read out of obligation for a graduate class. However, once I began reading I could hardly bear to put it down. I read the Freedom Writer's Diary, watched the movie, and then read Erin Gruwell's "Teach with Your Heart." I have to say that, by far, this book is the best book I've read on an education related topic! Having taught High School students in California for 4 years and reading countless literature (journals, articles, newspaper, and books), this is one for the ages.

Erin Gruwell's passion, energy, and enthusiasm are extremely contagious. Her commitment to working with and caring for her students is what helped her earned her stripes and gain credibility, for they had become acustomed to being called "stupid" or "worthless" and being brushed off as problem children who many other teachers refused to teach.

The High Blood Pressure Hoax is an excellent informative book that will enlighten the layperson about blood pressure and how to prevent hypertension. Dr Rogers explains everything in laymans terms and gives you an easy plan to follow. After all high blood pressure and many ailments aren't a lack of drugs but a lack of nutrients!!

My doc suggested I read this to better understand nutrition and its impact on health. He beleves that doctors are more inclined to treat symptoms rather than underlying causes and that this shortcoming in medical education and practive is changing quickly. But not quickly enough. If you have an MD degree, you could breeze thru this book. But for the average guy its like trying to read something written by an alien. Even if you glean a good idea, you'll have a lot of trouble putting it into practice as the foods and supplements suggested are difficult to locate.

This book is so-so. Most of the info you can find on the NIH site or Dash site on line. The menus are nothing to rave about--and the recipes are not very inspiring. The only good thing is you can go on line with a site they have to download charts to keep records of weight, blood pressure, etc.

This book do have a lot of information in it and it is easily accessible. But it is a small book and the print is large so for $19.99 I was surprised and disappointed before I even opened it.

However, it describes the diet well I think and makes a good case for increasing veg and fruits into an every day diet. It also gives some tools for managing that in daily life. There were fewer recipes than I expected but if I had known it's such a small book I would not expect more. Reading it does give a positive feel for approaching the DASH diet.

My biggest disappointment however was the meal suggestions. How a normal person/couple/family could possibly manage to cook all that healthy food on weekdays is beyond me (just look at breakfasts for week one: cereal, omelette, french toast, waffles (!)...). Normal people stick to a formula (like cereal) for breakfast and vary it around that. A discussion of the importance of variation would be useful at that point, but to expect new items every breakfast is not what the most people can cope with. Same goes with lunch.

It would also be an expensive menu to follow because of the millions of fresh food items you need to keep (and will get wasted as you wont use them) and you'd have to be prepared to get a large freezer, for how else could you not have to throw away day twos left-over lunch ham when there's no other ham on the menu for 28 days (I might be wrong there.) Most people buy one topping and use it every other day until it is used up - or use left over meats from dinners.

The book would have benefitted from an (extensive) assortment of weekday menu items, such as the ham and cheese sandwich followed by a discussion of the importance to vary the food.

On the dinners I have little to comment, I have yet to try the recipes out. I doubt we're going to eat chicken three times in one week though, however prepared. I was missing any comments on lamb, which is a meat we have at home more often than beef (excluding ground beef). I do find the serving chart useful in combination with the weekly check-off form. Ticking boxes for food eaten makes it easier to get a feel for how well the diet is kept on track.

I had a b/p of 130/90 -145/94 I am 55. I was suppose to go on lisinopril but every time I started to get the prescrip. I couldn't do it--it just felt wrong.So, I started researching high b/p and signed up for google alerts(on H/P) and one thing lead to another and to this book. I decided to get the book and follow it. I was never a salt-lover, just the opposite but when I started reading the labels of how much salt is in everything you buy--I was shocked.I would have been considered a "health nut"so, realizing that even by those standards, too much "salt" exsist even in Health Foods! I raised my potassium foods per day and added 300mg of Magnesium/potassium supplement by Country life. The drop in my b/p was amazing. It dropped to 115/72 to 117/75. BUT if I stray-- it goes right back up to the 130/90+ b/p. I am genetically thin-I only weight 100lbs. so being told I have high blood pressure was a shock. AND no one addressess H/P in thin people. Dr. Moore talks about "balance" and he is right-- for many people it does take maintaining a balance in your diet. If I eat out at restaurants all weekend--the b/p goes back up. That has been a real eye-opener to how sensitive someone's body can be to what you eat. I wish he had a website. There is so much about high B/P in the news lately and since he wrote this book in 1993 it would be good to have his current prof. opinion. He wrote this book before 120/80 was considered High! So, Dr. Moore if you ever read your reviews--please set up a website!

This author maintains that blood pressure can be lowered naturally by maintaining a potassium to sodium ratio of 4/1 in your diet without using potassium supplements. I didn't believe it... until I tried it. Within a week, I went from 150/100 to 110/68. I can't wait to show to my doctor how well nutrition therapy works!!!

I was given this book by my wife after struggling (unsuccessfully) with a sudden and dangerous rise in my bp. I went from a lifetime of normal readings to stage 4 hypertension (190/160) at age 39. Over the course of the next nine months, I was on a variety of anti-hypertensives -- three different bp meds simultaneously -- at high doses with only limited success and terrible side effects. I read this book and a month or so later, decided to give Dr. Moore's theory a try. I followed the K factor diet for three months and also quit drinking caffeine. My bp's plunged within weeks and after a few months, I was off all but one med and that was reduced to a very low dose. My doctors -- including a nephrologist -- were stunned by the results. I can't recommend it enough.

I was rushed to a hospital with a blood pressure of 175/110 at the age of 37 yrs. I was given a calcium channel blocker pill which reduced my BP to 140/90. Unfortunately it produces a side effect which I cannot stand. I was then given ace inhibitor (Hyzaar) which brought my BP to 120/70 but unfortunately produces a dizziness which was so intolerable I could hardly drive my car. Lastly the medication was changed to cozaar another ace inhibitor which produces a side effects of dizziness which was more tolerable.Anyway I tried to find a natural solution for my hypertension and found out that this book gives all the answer which was needed to reverse it. After four weeks of high K factor diet ( serum poassium at 4.9 ) I was able to half my BP pills at a BP of 110/75 and sometimes to 105/65. My aim now is to stopped my BP pills intake when it is safe to do so.

This book details ways for a person with hypertension to lower their blood pressure using natural methods. Dr. Moore is an M.D. and PhD who has done years of research in this area. He concludes that a low level of potassium (K) is a major casue of hypertension. He gives dietary instructions on how to raise your potassium, and lower your sodium. The book is well documented and is very readable. It is an encouraging book for those who have hypertension, but want to try a treatment more natural than using prescription medications. I wish it would tell me what is too low. Sometines my medication really brings it way down and I don't know how concerened I should be.

I have a severe case of "White coat syndrome". Because of this it is hard to know if thr doctor is over medicating me. Therefore I monotor my omw blood pressure and medicate accordingly.

I wish the book included more blood anaylsis data.

I aside from the above comments I am happy with the book and refer to it when nessary.

This was written by my wife Ida. I personally don't have a blood presssure problem. The book was purchased for her.

Whether a clinician or just someone who wants to learn more about the latest treatments for high blood pressure, if you buy a book about hypertension, make sure it incorporates that latest guidelines -- JNC VII (2003). Diagnosis and treatment guidelines changed substantially. I have a copy of this book and like it quite a bit but as far as I know, it has not been updated to include JNC VII recommendations.

Think about this scenario. One fine morning you are diagnosed with High Blood Pressure and you have no idea about this silent killer. Then this book is for you. Dr Alan knows his subject inside out and uses a language which is extremely easy for one and all to follow. You can always give this book as a gift to someone you know suffering from Blood Pressure. It has everything in it. Various treatment options, medicines and its side effects, exercises needed, diets, supplements and a whole lot that will help the reader to have a normal and healthy life.

I was recently diagnosed with extremely high blood pressure and I knew absolutely nothing about it. This book really helped me understand what was going on! It is very clear and easy to read, well-organized and very detailed. I read the entire book and really enjoyed it. I continually refer to it for info about medications, side effects, diet, etc. I would recommend it highly for anyone who needs to know about high blood pressure.

This is a continuation of the movie The Heart of the Game. Bill focused on Darnellia Russell in the movie. He uses the book writing opportunity to tell the stories of some other outstanding kids.
As a high school basketball coach I am quite impressed with Bill's attitude, vision and his trust of the team. The movie and the book have changed my coaching style (I would like to think for the better). I found it a delightful and inspirational movie and book.
So if you loved the movie you will love the book. I did...so I did.

It made me cry- it made me laugh.A must-read for coaches and parents alike! Resler is a sincere, self-effacing and very humorous. When he says winning isn't the most important thing, I believe him. He is genuinely interested in the player's development as a person. He is trying to allow them to learn lessons that will carry much further than high school and basketball, and have fun doing it. A very enjoyable book. My daughter plays basketball and this helped me understand the coaches' role and view point of players. He is very insightful of how to get the most out of his players. Coaches should read this.

I think that this is the best sports book I've ever read. I think the reason is his summation of the book in the Introduction. He says: Really, the game (basketball) alone has no worthwhile purpose whatsoever. But teaching how the game is played can show players that if they work as a group, they can accomplish things despite another group trying to prevent those accomplishments.

The book is structured around the stories of individual players. And this is about players in the whole rather than this playing. This is how you take the individual girls and make them into a team, and at the same time you make them into more responsible young adults.

It is, of course, just a sport. But more than a sport it's education. And Mr. Resler is a fine, even supurb, example of those around the country that contribute their part.

This book is a wealth of information whether you chose to follow it or stay within the conventional medical system. At the absolute least this book provides information to allow you to be in charge of your 'own' health care on this important issue. A best it can provide you with a safer and healthier natural alternative to unsafe and ineffective medications. I have bought 4 copies of this books and given it to people I care about.

This book seems be based on research done by other doctors who do not own a supplement company.
I bought this book because I could not get good advice on supplements from my doctor.
The advice is very good, although copied, but the supplement advice points the reader toward the Whitaker Institute, which seem to do more research on how to sell vitamins for more moeny than research on curing heart disease
The supplements sold by Dr. Whitaker's company are much higher priced than the exact same supplements sold by other reputable supplement comapanies like Puritan's Pride, The vitamin Shoppe, Swansons vitamins etc.
I prefer other books on this subject sold by amazon, particulary one written by Dr. Houston, who runs a hospital research institute and does not own a supplement company.
I find it hard to believe the advice on supplements from a man who is charging triple prices for the supplements that he reccomends in his book.

Your doctor may have never told you that most blood pressure medicine is dangerous, that for some people, reducing salt intake and drinking more water is as effective as diuretics and much safer, and that in most cases hypertension is caused by an unhealthy lifestyle. This information, and much more, is backed up by 28 pages of references.
I have followed some of the guidelines for about two weeks and have already seen a decrease in both my systolic and diastolic pressures. I have not yet started eating tofu, and have not given up beef, but am reducing salt intake, choosing complex carbs over simple sugars, and eating fruit rich in potassium, calcum and magnesium. Some of the recommended changes are difficult, some are refreshing.
This book is intended for people who are "proactively involved in their health...and highly motivated to modify their diets and make other lifestyle changes..." It's not for everyone. It calls for changing eating habits and exercising regularly, as well as reducing stress. But even if one does not follow the book's advice to a tee, they can probably benefit from it.
I recommend Reversing Hypertension to anyone who needs to reduce their blood pressure, doesn't want to risk taking medicines that can be more dangerous than hyertension ,and is willing to make the necessary lifestyle changes.

A Vital New Program to Prevent, Treat, and Reduce High Blood Pressure by Julian M. Whitaker is an extremely easy to follow guide on hypertension, its reasons and effect on our body. The traditional medical establishment has very little clue as to what causes and what to do about many diseases. But, here the author knows his subject very well and is an expert in making the layman understand what he has to tell. Every person who is suffering from hypertension should read this book and their next visit to their doctors will be more enlightening.

After reading this book I have decided to give up my coffee habit and I was fortunate enough to find out a find a wonderful tasting replacement made from soyabeans. Ever wonder about the mechanics of hypertension - what is it and how is it affecting your body? James Whitaker discusses how someone like me who worked out in the gym 3-4 times a week, has eaten right for years and had normal cholesterol readings could have a stoke. You could have knocked me down with a feather when it happened - and I mean that literally.

No one ever told me about aldosterone, antidiuretic hormone (ADH), Angiotensin II, or Nitric Oxide, or the role the renin-angiotension-aldosterone system(RAAS) played in regulating blood pressure. Seems there are at least two types of hypertension and that stress is a major factor that can affect your body and shorten your life. As I never used Cocaine, that must be the cause of my secondary hypertension and why my physician has prescribed an ACE inhibitor and a BETA blocker. (By the way, you might want to read this book for no other reason than to discover the danger of taking a BETA-Blocker with an anti-diuretic for an extended period.

Whitaker lists some controllable risk factors most of us need to know more about including obesity, insulin resistance and diabetes, diet, smoking and drinking. I have never smoked and I don't drink alcohol, and I am using a variant of the DASH diet (also discussed in this book). Living with smoker has probably affected (passive smoking - if you have kids stop for their sake!!). Read this book and learn more about hypertension, prescription drugs, and how you can lower your blood pressure, improve your memory and enjoy life again using various natural techniques.
