Excellent book.......2007-10-08
I really rooted for this couple, did not think I would considering the age gap of 25 year old woman and 45 year old man, thought it would be sleazy but it was a beautiful love story. Good read, sexy, funny and sensual.
Would love to read a sequel about some of the other characters.
Tmoegoody .......2007-10-05
A little discouraging in the beginning because I really did not want to read about another spring break fling, but the only reason I kept reading is because my girl Trista be putting it down and once again it was a great read.
she did it again............2007-09-23
She did it again. Another EXCELLENT book. I loved this book from beginning to end. Only upset about her books is when it ends. You always want more. What i love the most is that each story is different and each story gets better and better. I cannot wait to see what Trista Russell has next. God has bless you with a talent......
"If loving you is wrong ...who cares".......2007-09-12
i really enjoyed the story of Thadia's and her friends and the Rev. Issac. I was completely wrong about this book, when I first read the back cover of this book I thought I was going to be reading a drama filled book about this young girl messing around with the Rev. I was completely wrong!!! This is truly a Romeo & Juliet story about 2 adults who are looking for love and find it in each other, but at the cost of possibly a friendship and a close father & daughter relationship. I have enjoyed all the books that have been written by this author. I am now reading going broke, and really enjoyed Fly on the Wall!!
Thanks Mrs. Russell.......2007-08-20
This book has really given me hope for a better day. If only everyone could find the happiness that Thalia found the world be a better place.

Book Description
His Story: "I could have any chick at West Dade Senior High, but I went after the one I was told couldn't be broken, Ms. Patrick, my English teacher and my coach's ex-wife. It started with me proving something to myself, but ended with me trying to prove to her that I was all the man she'd ever need."
Her Story: "I struggled to treat him like any other student. All I asked was that he arrive to class on time and I encouraged him to complete class assignments. However, the lustful way he looked at me, the intimate things his words implied, and the way his fingers taunted my skin, was powerful enough for me to put my career on the line."
The Truth: A thirty-two-year-old teacher entered an inappropriate relationship with a student, but what the headlines didn't say was that the student, Theo Lakewood, was eighteen (of legal age), extremely handsome, a senior, and a star basketball player at West Dade Senior High, relentlessly pursued her, ceaselessly studied her, and painstakingly seduced her. Of course she could've ignored his advances, but she welcomed him with open arms. Only a Fly on the Wall would know exactly how he conquered her.
Ever wish that you were a Fly on the Wall? Wish no more. Spread your wings and get ready to read all of the juicy forbidden details from behind closed doors with Theo and Paige.

Have You Ever Read A Book You Just Didn't Want To End?..............2007-09-03
.....If not, then this is the book. This book was INCREDIBLE an AWESOMELY written love story. "Fly on the wall" is one of the best books I've read. This book test on so many emotions, it will have you hooked from the beginning until the end. This book will have you thinking about the characters well after you have read it, it will leave you yearning for more. This book NEEDS to be adapted into a movie, so I could watch it over and over. For all you out there that enjoys reading Love Stories, this is a MUST READ. The ending was the GREATEST. I usually dont write reviews, but HOW COULD I NOT FOR THIS BOOK?
IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK, DON'T READ ANY FURTHER. I DONT WANT TO SPOIL ANYTHING FOR YOU.
For those that have. Who could agree with me, when I say my heart was pounding NON-STOP when I thought Theo was dead? I literally did not want to continue reading if that was the case. The book ended beautifully, but who wanted to read about the graduation, the draft, the wedding and the baby? Trista, deserves her props for this book, because I just can't get it out of my system. I trully can't get ENOUGH.
VERY good book!.......2007-06-25
I actually found this book while I was searching for another book! I'm glad I clicked on the link because this book was REALLY good. The best part (also the funniest) was the fly!! It didn't have a big part but stole the show when it did. "Ripped from the headlines" is the cliche' on this book but don't let that deter you.
The author actually has a plot with this story and the sex scenes are extremely hot!! Each of the main characters has some serious flaws and that is why you'll love em. Put this one on your "to read" list.
Very Spicy.......2007-06-18
If only I could be...a fly on the wall. A great book with unexpected plot twists right up to the very end. I love Trista Russell as an author.
***Warning***Warning***Warning***.......2007-06-08

Book Description
At the Manhattan School for Art and Music, where everyone is “different” and everyone is “special,” Gretchen Yee feels ordinary. She’s the kind of girl who sits alone at lunch, drawing pictures of Spider-Man, so she won’t have to talk to anyone; who has a crush on Titus but won’t do anything about it; who has no one to hang out with when her best (and only real) friend Katya is busy.
One day, Gretchen wishes that she could be a fly on the wall in the boys’ locker room–just to learn more about guys. What are they really like? What do they really talk about? Are they really cretins most of the time?
Fly on the Wall is the story of how that wish comes true.
Customer Reviews:
Fun Read--not graphic in any inappropriate way.......2007-08-29
Fly on the Wall is a YA book that came out last year. It is Lockhart's second or third YA book. Basically, the story takes Franz Kafka's plot from The Metamorphosis and brings it into the modern world and into a book that would appeal to teenage girls. And, for that reason, I almost didn't read it. I hated reading The Metamorphosis in high school and, to be honest, I still strongly dislike the book and avoid Kafka at all costs because of it. BUT, I am happy to say that the similarity to Kafka's novel begins and ends with this fact: Gretchen Yee one day wishes she could be a fly on the wall of the boy's locker room at her high school. The next day she wakes up as just that.
Gretchen wakes up stuck to the locker wall and she stays there for most of the novel. A fact that, surprisingly, does not make for a boring story. Gretchen gets to observe the boys as they come and go for each gym class. Lower classmen, acquaintances, friends, and even her crush, are all available to scrutinize. Instead of just learning, as she had expected, about what the boys really think and say behind closed doors--Gretchen also gets a chance to find out how she fits into the school. The book is broken into three parts: Life as an artificial red-head, Life as a vermin, and Life as a superhero.
I like Gretchen a lot as a character. She goes to an art school (like La Guardia for any New York natives reading this) in NYC where everyone tries to be special. In a school with girls wearing unitards or saris and cliques like the Art Rats, Gretchen feels too ordinary to belong. Gretchen is also a comic book fan which almost always makes a character fun to read about. Excuse the pun, but after being a fly, Gretchen's metamorphosis from insecure to empowered girl really starts.
At times Lockhart's language seemed a little . . . unique. You can tell me what you think after reading her segment on "gherkins" *ahem*. I don't know if it's that she's using slang that I find weird and this is therefore only my problem, but it just made me hyper-aware that I was reading a book at certain points in the story. Also, to address some concerns of other reviews: Yes, Lockhart describes what the guys look like while they're changing in the locker room and yes, there are curses. But saying it's pornography is going a little far. Personally, I'd be much happier to see a teen or tween reading this book rather than Push or The Bluest Eye (both of which deal with sexual abuse yet perennially appear on reading lists in high school English classes).
As for the plot, it's a classic problem-resolution kind of story. Which I like. If you need to pick up something light and fun after a sad book (The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian perhaps) I'd recommend this. The writing is straight forward and Gretchen is such a unique character that even if you thought Metamorphosis spin-offs are over done (I'm thinking of all those Fly movies right now), you'll find a lot to call new and novel here (that pun was intended too). Finally, even though you think the book is about a girl turning into a fly which is a fair assumption, it's really about more than that too. Specifically, it's about a girl learning to go after what she wants. Now you may ask, does Gretchen get what she wants? You'll have to pick up a copy yourself to find out.
A book for teens--NOT!.......2007-04-07
We wonder why the morality of our kids is going down the toilet. When books are being marketed to teens that are laced with pornography, explitives, and the "F" bomb on every other page. This book only qualifies as porn...and since it is about minors, that would make it child porn, which, iirc, is illegal in most areas of the country. [...]
The precept is good, and the story premise is different. It could have been done though without blatantly exposing children to pornography.
WARNING FOR PARENTS - This book is PORNOGRAPHIC !.......2007-03-30
This book is filled with 4-letter words. The "f" word is used throughout. The premise of the story is a teen girl turns into a fly, and goes into the boys locker room. She describes in detail, boys' anatomy, and a large part of the book is spent describing boys' genitals, and how she feels upon seeing them. She also discusses how seeing the naked boys makes her want to pounce on them and stick her tongue down their throats.
My 12 year old daughter picked this book up out of the children's room in our local library. It has a cheerful, little-girlish pink cover. My daughter thought that it was going to be a fun adventure story of a girl who turns into a fly. It is an adventure story, but an x-rated one. Fortunately, my daughter stopped reading, and brought the book to me when she encountered the first 4-letter words on the first pages.
I highly object to this book being marketed to CHILDREN, when between the girly-pink cover it is undisguised, blatant pornography. While I do not care what other adults read in the privacy of their own homes, to have this book being marketed for children is unethical, immoral by any standards, and should be illegal.
You have to be 18 to purchase pornography. You should have to be 18 to purchase this book.
Fly on the Wall: How One Girl Saw Everything.......2006-12-16
I wish I was a fly on the wall of the boy's locker room! Boom, there she is. A fly, stuck in the boy's locker room.
Short, funny, and interesting. I cannot say it was the best book I've ever read, but I have read worse. So, it can't be that bad. I personally liked it.
great, very original.......2006-09-12
At Manhattan School for the Arts, where Gretchen Yee is a sophomore, "normal" is out. Even her stop-sign-red hair isn't nonconformist enough. (But if everyone is a nonconformist, aren't they really all conformists?) Her drawing style is all wrong too -- it looks too much like a comic book (duh! Spider-man IS a comic book). If that's not enough, she has to eat lunch by herself, because her best friend, Katya, is too busy smoking with the Art Rats; her parents just announced; and she's in love with Titus, but is too chicken to do anything about it. Gretchen wishes she could be a fly in the boys' locker room, just to learn more about them. Inexplicably, she wakes up the next morning to find that her wish has been granted. Over the next week, she learns a lot -- and not just what an A+ booty looks like. She learns that boys are all different: that they have feelings, too; that they can feel insecure and bullied. She learns that everone's perception of other people is different -- and some perceptions of her are quite surprising. And she learns something about her friendship with Katya that shocks her. Though the circumstances are implausible, Gretchen's thoughts and the things she learns are quite typical, and keep the story realistic. Gretchen is quite a likeable character, and the reader will be eager for her to put her new knowledge to good use.

Book Description
John Cotton was a simple man with one desire: to write the greatest story of his life and have enough life left to read all about it.
Reporter John Cotton knows what to do when he finds a great story, but he is a little afraid when a big story begins to find him. It starts when a fellow reporter is murdered and his notebook, filled with information about a tax scam, ends up in John's hands. Not long afterwards, a body is discovered in John's car. Then John's car ends up in the river, a bomb is found in his apartment, and his girlfriend drops out of sight. It's up to John to unravel the mystery of the notebook, and why anyone would kill for the information it contains.
Customer Reviews:
Not as good as others but good nevertheless.......2005-10-19
I did finish the book staying up until 1 pm. If you are a fan of Hillerman, then you do want to read this book. The two "chased by the bad guy" scenes in the book, one in Santa Fe and the other in the Capitol, are worth the price of admission. They are pulse quickening and vivid.
hillerman strikes out.......2005-01-10
in my opinion tony hillerman should stick to what he writes best navajo mystery! his joe leaphorn and jim chee novels are his best works by far
Anachronistic.......2004-09-25
Tony Hillerman's The Fly on the Wall has not aged particularly well. Written in 1971, early in his career, the book has been bypassed by technological advances as well as Hillerman's success with the Leaphorn/Chee series. Knowing that no future tales of John Cotton, newspaperman, have been written made getting into the book a little more difficult than I expected.
The characters and setting don't fit well with what one has come to think of as a "Tony Hillerman" book - that combination of Native Americans, their folklore, and the Southwest. To a man (and a woman), the characters are all extremely liberal in their political viewpoint. If you're convinced there's a liberal bias in the mainstream press, this novel will do nothing to disabuse you of that notion. Even if you do subscribe to the dominant point of view, you may be disappointed by some of the things liberalism's used to excuse in the final chapter. Perhaps the book's greatest weakness is the lack of alternate viewpoints explored: there are no real Republican characters either as foils or villains and this makes for some uninspired conflict and ultimately an unsatisfying resolution.
Part way through the book I found myself wishing Cotton would get himself out of a jam by making a cellphone call, or fax or e-mail his stories in to his editor, then I remembered - 1971! None of those things existed. Teletype machines and direct-dial long distance were the high tech of the day; even though photocopiers existed, Cotton still uses carbon paper throughout the story to make duplicates of his stories written on a manual typewriter. If you're nostalgic for these things, then you'll probably get more out of the story than I did.
The Southwest makes a brief appearance in the middle of the book when Cotton tries to find sanctuary there. While not quite as picturesque as in the Leaphorn/Chee books, this brief respite in New Mexico marks the point where the novel really picks up steam. Here and in Cotton's escape from the vacant Capitol building near the end of the novel are the two parts where Hillerman's pacing and plotting really shine. Compared to these fast-paced action scenes, the talky final chapter and the lengthy set-up in the first half of the book are big disappointments.
The Fly on the Wall isn't a terrible book, but it's clearly not Hillerman's best. If you're caught up on the latest Navajo novels, go ahead and tackle this one, but there's really no reason to go out of your way for it.
Fly on the wall.......2003-11-10
I did not enjoy this book as much as the rest of his books. It took me a long time to fully understand the characters in the book. The other day, I heard this book being compared to a glass of water. This person said, "It is like water. It really has no flavor, but at least it goes down quickly." I agree with this because overall, I did not like this book.
Read Hillerman's other books instead.......2001-10-27
This story is set in an unnamed Midwestern city. John Cotton is a reporter at the state's capitol. One of his colleagues tells him he is working on a really big story. Shortly after this the colleague falls several stories and dies. This starts Cotton investigating the same leads. Then another one of his friends is killed while driving Cotton's car.
I found this to be a very slow book. The characters were not well developed. Cotton's attraction to Jane seems to come out of the blue. Also, I had difficulties following the leads in the beginning. They were very technical.
The political intrigue did not get interesting until about 1/2 to 2/3 way through the book. One issue covered in the book is how much political corruption, stealing of public funds, etc. is allowable if it serves the purpose of getting or keeping the "better" politician in office.
Tony Hillerman's books set on the Navajo reservation are better. The characters are much more well developed in those books.

"When Elephants Fly" is Terrific.......2007-04-24
Wow, what a story! This light little book packs quite a punch. Carol's account is uplifting, exhilarating and sprinkled with enough humor that this serious story does not weigh you down.
Reading about Carol's journey from The Big Apple to rural South Africa is almost like being on the voyage yourself. The sights and smells and sounds described are vivid, yet the detail is never overbearing.
Self-reflection. Seizing the moment. Challenging yourself to the farthest reaches of imagination. Being outside your comfort zone. Achievement. Sadness. Happiness. Fear and overcoming it. Seeing people without prejudice. - - - All of that and more will be found in these pages.
Fabulous book.......2006-11-05
This book is an inspiration! I am an inveterate reader of travel literature. When I saw this book in my local independent book dealer I was intrigued by the subtitle--One womans journey from Wall street to Zululand!~ Once I picked it up I couldn't put it down. Carol is a marvelous story teller and her honesty and transparency are thoroughly disarming. She lets the reader into her life and into daily life in Zululand.
I learned so much that I decided to adopt it as a supplementary text in my University level class in the business school. Students need to learn that they can do well by doing good and that they can, as Carol Batrus does so graciously, overcome life's challenges. When I came the end of the book, I did not want it to end--so I read the acknowledgements page. There I discovered the name of a former student and colleague--who I immediately wrote and asked her to put me in touch with the author.
A few month's later Carol Batrus came and spoke with my class at the University and I discovered that she is as charming in life as in her book!
A move from Wall Street to the African bush.......2006-03-12
South Africa was far removed from everything businesswoman executive Carol Batrus knew: so what led her to move from her high-powered, successful job on Wall Street to the heart of Zululand to help the tribe's economic development? WHEN ELEPHANTS FLY: ONE WOMAN'S JOURNEY FROM WALL STREET TO ZULULAND is a moving memoir of her journey, which was to help the tribe economically without destroying the environment. Her decision and journey is inspiring and provides plenty of insights into South African and local environmental issues.
Outward Bound?.......2005-10-11
This book will be of interest to anyone going to a Third World Country. Whether one is a casual traveler or an NGO professional, Carol Batrus' experiences become lessons that will make the journey more effective. She shows that the steps needed to accomplish organizational priorities remain similar in large companies, family life, or in the bush. If her entertaining prose is motivational, you will be glad that she went first.
a trip thru life .......2005-09-28
Carol Batrus captures the flavor of finding oneself in the oft difficult world of 20th and 21st Century America through living in Africa. By way of her travails she discovers,in no particular order, life, herself, a whole new culture, and a myriad of friends that make life as fulfilling as could be for one who persues it. Uplifting and inspriational. A terrific read.

Imagine what it must have been like to be in Las Vegas during its most glamorous and eventful years: the 1950s, when you could rub elbows with powerful politicians, famous entertainers, and notorious gangsters; the 1960s, when Howard Hughes' corporate invasion changed casinos forever; and the 1970s, which were immortalized by the movie Casino. Back then, "the boys" ran the town, dinner shows were a dollar, and vacant lots on what is now the Strip sold for $5 an acre. Tallulah played baccarat, Shecky shot dice, and Frank dealt blackjack.

Loved It........2004-01-07
This is not heavy reading, just a great story about one guy in Vegas during the mob days. Gave me a way to experience a bit of history. One of the better books on Vegas.
This book is written from experience not research.......2002-01-23
My husband and I are some of the many who have come to enjoy Vegas as a quick getaway. We both really enjoy places with stories to tell, and many have been told about Vegas. This book is the author's recollections of Vegas from the early 50's to the early 90's and the changes he experienced. I commend him on keeping the stories to what he had first-hand knowledge of and not elaborating by filling in with what those of us who've read on Vegas before, already know. It's interesting to get different perspectives on the good old yarns.
Puffery!.......2000-02-07
The author writes that when he was a journalist he "practiced my own brand of censorship." Hello? And he calls himself a reporter? This guy was a flak for the casinos who is doing nothing but tooting his own horn with this so-called tell-all. Buy "Green Felt Jungle." It's a classic and REALLY tells the story of old Las Vegas.
Chopped up & boring.......2000-02-05
This book goes everywhere, was there an editor? 2-3 pages of this & that. Sorry, after reading the book, then looking at the title, now I know why it is called Fly on the Wall. Those flies never seem to stay in one place for very long. It would have been 100% better if a little back ground or if there was more info. to each of the "stories"
Lots of fun!!!.......1999-07-30
No bombshells or detail-heavy stories here. Just many amusing anecdotes and insights from someone who's a true insider and seemed to have been at the right place at the right time. Highly recommended!

Book Description
At the Manhattan High School for the Arts, where everyone is “different” and everyone is “special,” Gretchen Yee feels ordinary. She’s the kind of girl who sits alone at lunch, drawing pictures of Spider-Man, so that she won’t have to talk to anyone; who has a crush on Titus but won’t do anything about it; who has no one to hang out with when her best (and only real) friend, Katya, is busy.
One day, Gretchen wishes that she could be a fly on the wall in the boys’ locker room–just to learn more about guys. What are they really like? What do they really talk about? Are they really cretins most of the time?
Fly on the Wall is the story of how that wish comes true.

Sixteen-year old Gretchen Yee is a pretty typical teenager. Sort of. She attends the Manhattan High School for the Arts, otherwise known as Ma-Ha. There, she gets to take not only the normal, everyday classes of Literature and PE, but also Drawing and Sculpture. Gretchen is a great artist, and she's especially partial to the comic-book style of drawing. Not to mention that her personal hero is Spiderman. She has a best friend name Katya, who now seems to spend all her time either hanging out with the poseurs behind the school, smoking cigarettes, or babysitting her three younger sisters.
When it comes to the opposite sex, though, Gretchen has no idea what she's doing. Actually, she doesn't even know what they're doing half the time. Her parents are in the throes of a divorce, she has no close male friends, and her kind-of ex-boyfriend, Shane, now spends most of his time acting like an idiot. How can she ever know what goes on inside a guy's head when they act like such total morons most of the time?
After casually mentioning one day after school that she wished she could be a fly on the wall in the boy's locker room, something really, really strange happens. Gretchen wakes up the next morning as, you guessed it, a fly on the wall of the boy's locker room. Never mind the fact that she can't wrap her mind (her own mind, thank goodness, not a fly mind) around what's happened, now she spends several hours every day seeing high-school guys get naked! In front of her! Without clothes! And she can't close her eyes because her fly-body has no eyelids!
Needless to say, the things Gretchen sees and hears inside the boy's locker room at Ma-Ha are (ha!ha!) eye-opening, to say the least. Who knew that Titus, the object of her undying affections, gets tired of hearing his friends talk bad about homosexuals? Or that Malachy, a guy she'd never paid much attention to before, has secretly been dating her best friend? Or that one of the Art Poseurs is [..] Or that she'd spent so much time wondering if she was invisible, all the time being crushed on by a guy she'd never seen before?
FLY ON THE WALL is funny, honest, and a totally fun read. Who wouldn't wish, just once, to have a fly's-eye-view of the inner sanctum of the teenage male? For Gretchen, her time as a fly teaches her a lot about not only the male species, but her own wishes, desires, and needs. A real winner!
