Book Description
Blast off with Douglas Florian's new high-flying compendium, which features twenty whimsical poems about space.
From the moon to the stars, from the Earth to Mars, here is an exuberant celebration of our celestial surroundings that's certain to become a universal favorite among aspiring astronomers everywhere.
Includes die-cut pages and a glossary of space terms.
Customer Reviews:
A "Universal" treat!.......2007-05-05
I think Douglas Florian's new book, 'comets, stars, the moon and mars' is his most expressive yet.
Beginning with the poem "skywatch," two children look at the sky. The next poem is "the universe."
Die cut "planet" holes move the reader deeper and further through space. From "mercury" to "venus" to "the earth" to "the moon" the poems continue in order according to their distance from the Sun. Comets, black holes and the mystery of what lies beyond are also addressed. Florian's ability to weave facts and fun are on full display here.
The bright color palette echoes the amazing views from the Hubble space telescope. This generation of kids has grown up looking at Seymour Simon's books about the solar system and the Universe. They have seen the colors that are out there.
Check out the Harcourt page about the book and download Florian's Poetry Kit. The "Practical Poetry Pointers" are some of the most best tips for writing poetry with kids that I have ever seen.
You have Gotta-Have-It.

Customer Reviews:
The best Manga series........2004-08-01
The last series of Sailor moon is the best. It tells more about the background of each character. And for once all the Sailor Scouts are gone. You finally get to see how Sailor Moon fights by herself! The book has beatiful artwork. Only it has terrible binding. The Sailor Moon Manga books always kinda fall apart. So be very careful with them! Get this book! You'll enjoy it and read it again and again.
This series rocks!!!.......2003-10-06

An evil ghost takes control of Hotaru.
Great Manga!.......2003-09-07
First off, glamcabbit, Manga or books are not DUBBED, they are TRANSLATED!
Ok. Now that that is straight, this manga was really good. Ther artwork is great. The story is good, but it could be better. It just isn't as good as it used to be. Even Naoko herself said that she was sorry she was so kept up with the anime that she didn't really try to make the StarS series interesting (I think)
Anyone who can't have the Sailor Moon StarS anime should get this manga. It's not SO different from the anime, accept the Villians are SOOO much smarter.
This manga starts out with Sailor Moon fighting Kitty and the Sailor Starlights finally finding Princess Kakyu. Later on in the manga, Sailor Moon is left without Mars, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Pluto, Saturn, Neptune, or Uranus to help her. She then finds out the shocking truth. She is the target of Sailor Galaxia, the scout of destruction. Set upon rescuing her fellow Sailor Scout's Sailor Crystals, Eternal Sailor Moon goes to find Sailor Galaxia with Sailor Chibi Chibi (NOT SAILOR CHIBI CHIBI MOON! THAT'S ONLY IN THE ANIME!), Princess Kakyuu, and the Starlights. But Galaxia won't let Sailor Moon win that easily! Will Sailor Moon be able to get through all the obstacles in her path?
Unfortunately, this description might not be that good, considering I lost my StarS 2 manga in the Seattle Airport ! :'-(
Oh well. Hope I helped you!
PS Would actually be 4 1/2 stars, but I couldn't figure out how to do that! Anyone know?
Kawaii!.......2002-07-03
The second book is so cool too. We find out who the strange lady is that the starlights call princess, and much more questions are answered like Who the starlights really are and what happened to the senshi's and so on but i can't tell you much because then i would ruin it!
There is one cool thing at the end of this book. There is a mini comic that Naoko made for a contest winner where Chibi-usa, Hotaru and Chibi-usa's friends Ruruna and Naruru go to this cool pawn shop and they buy stuff and... i won't say anymore
Naoko Takeuchi... you've done it again.......2002-06-20
this book is brilliant. Amazing ... no words could describe it. Well, first off, from the first book, The starlights find their princess and Mamoru d.... HAVE YOU READ THE FIRST BOOk!? i can't say if you ahve or havn't so.. i won't go on about that, anyways along the way, Usagi discovers Sailor Galexia.. and gets to meet her, i won't say anymore.. i advise this book to any Sailor Moon fans, you've seen the series.. trust me, this is totaly different

A sad girl.......2005-09-30
I'm a girl who loved sailor Moon! I really did! I used to watch all the movies and shows when I was little.I loved to act out the scenes and would come home and flop down in front of the tv to watch Sailor Moon. One day,I came home to watch Sailor Moon but it wasn't on.I thought it would be on tomorrow but not tomorrow or the next day or the nest day.I was so heart broken. My favorite tv show, and they cancelled it and it wouldn't come on.I was just crying the practiclly all the time. Now I'm 12 years old and at that time I was 5,I really still miss Sailor Moon and hope to see it.I just watch the 1 video I have and it brings back memories.I really miss it......
The last volume.......2005-04-12
This is a touching volume. Bunny/Darien, Usagi/Mamoru, Serena/Darien are my favorite couple.. I loved both the Japanese and English versions. The Japanese version is my favorite and the English version is great. I use both the Japanese names, Usagi and Mamoru and the English names Bunny and Darien. In this volume, Bunny is all alone. A battle begins. Bunny faces a very hard challenge as she battles alone. When everything is gone, Bunny finds herself all alone. When she hears a voice call her name. Darien appeards. Darien and Bunny hold hands. They have a new rebirh as they decide to live their life. The future comes and Bunny wakes up in Darien's bed one night. Darien kisses Bunny to wake her up. Bunny tells him she feels like she's been watching a long dream. Darien asks her what kind of dream. Bunny then asks Darien to say it again. Darien tells her he said it many times last night. Bunny asks him to say it once more. Darien says marry me. Darien asks Bunny to marry him. Darien and Bunny kiss by his bed. Later, Darien and Bunny are together. Darien and Bunny kiss as ther are now husband and wife. Bunny tells Darien she feels something inside her and they know that their daughter will be born. Bunny asks Darien if they can protect the planet together. Darien tells her they will always be together. Darien and Bunny kiss passionately. Darien thinks to himself that Bunny will always be invincible.
At it's best, in the end.......2005-04-03
Through the Anime, Musicals and mass production of Sailor Moon, the manga has something that none of these others do. It's was a first for female anime genre which launched countless others into the spotlight. After All the story arcs, battling the past, furture and even themselves at times, Sailor Moon has been through many hardships. This is the final, and it's best, form of good vs. evil and the prevailing form of "love and justice"
Sailor Moon Stars # 3, the last book from the 18 volumes of manga, told a story from which none of the others did. Sailor Moon, for one of the first times, truly, battles on her own. Her friends, Lover and the rest of her kind had been murdered. It showed us a side of sailor moon, a side diffrent from that lazy, feeble little girl who was alway late to class, into a true heroine. Battling without the (and even against) the ones closest to her heart she must make the final fight and decision for the rest of humanity. Even with her own future-self, telling her to destroy it all, just end the line and stop the fight, she decides the fight is better than nothing, and that fighting is the way no to give up. So she makes the ulitmate sacrifice, herself, into the cauldron. Killing herself, and Chaos, she saves all sailor senshi.
This also gives us answers to the story arc of Sailor Moon R, inwhich the future senshi have awakened to a world of ice and make it a habital place once more.
Through it all, takeuchi's sailor moon sailor stars is the best work out of all the storylines.
A very moving manga........2004-10-04
The last volume of Sailor moon was great. The artwork was fantastic and I learned a lot from this manga. Sailor Moon is all alone, the sailor scouts have turned against her and now Bunny can't defeat them! The last few pages made me cry a bit. It's such a moving manga.
soooo good.......2004-02-15
i bought this book and it was really great the art work was great and thier was action and conflict wont give away what happens so u will have 2 buy it to figure it out.
Book Description
In his classic study The Masks of God, Joseph Campbell conducted us on a fascinating global tour, showing how the seeds of myth grew in a similar fashion throughout the history of civilization. Before Campbell there was Sir James George Frazier who, in The Golden Bough--his pioneering study of magic, relgion, and folk custom--demonstrated how world mythologies exhibit "the effect of similar causes acting alike on the similar constitution of the human mind in different countries and under different skies." Now, in Beyond the Blue Horizon, eminent astronomer E.C. Krupp guides us expertly through a bewildering maze of cultures and civilizations--from the stone age to the present day--making clear that while the skies of these diverse peoples may vary, they speak nearly the same language. Beyond the Blue Horizon is a treasure trove of myths, legends, and stories in which people have, through the ages, attempted to understand the cosmos and its meaning for humankind. Collecting an astonishing amount of lore between the covers of a single book, Krupp explains why our ancestors were so intrigued by the heavens, and what their celestial stories meant. Readers will learn, for example, that many cultures saw a rabbit--rather than a man--in the moon, and that this moon-rabbit, as a symbol of sacrifice and rebirth, is a cousin of our own Easter Bunny; that to our ancestors, an eclipse challenged the stability and integrity of heaven and thus threatened order and life on earth; that the magical sleighride and chimney antics of Santa Claus echo the ancient journeys of shamans and witch doctors; that our "dog days" of July and August originated in Roman times with the summer appearance of Sirius, the Dog Star; and that the contemporary stories of UFOs reveal the mystery and meaning the sky still holds for us as we approach the twenty-first century. Of course, there is much, much more that will delight and intrigue; even readers familiar with world mythology will find plenty that is new and strange in Krupp's rich panorama. An epic, authoritative, and cross-cultural exploration with over 150 illustrations, Beyond the Blue Horizon tells how all civilizations searched the sky to understand to universe--and our own place in it.
Customer Reviews:
Extensive.......2002-07-07
Krupp has written a book that is comparable to Frazer's Golden Bough and Campbell's Hero With a Thousand Faces. He traces the evolution of sky myths from cultures around the globe. Krupp does an excellent job of capturing the meaning and beauty of these stories, and pieces them together in a well-crafted narrative.
Really Facinating Book..........2000-03-28
Beyond the Blue Horizon: Myths and Legends of the Sun, Moon, Stars, and Planets, is a very interesting and amazing read-- it confronts many possibilities of the place outside our blue sky, and gives the reader something to think about for long after the last page is read. Not only is this book worth reading for the pure fun of it, but it teachs you things that may come in handy at dinner table conversation. Facinating is the word that comes to mind... the myths about the stars and planets can sometimes be good bedtime stories, and over all, this book keeps you wanting more.

Customer Reviews:
Well, I am a fan of Weiss & Hickmann so..........2007-07-08
Great books. I have to admit that vol. 2 was a bit slow and dull at first but vol. 1 and 3 and most of vol. 2 made up for this. Didn't much care for the lovestory between Silvanoshei and the dark knight Mina so all this about Silanosheis love that wasn't returned is a bit dull for me (yes yes, I am a guy). But all in all I would rate this as a 5 star product. Another great story from Weiss & Hickmann.
Not as good as Weis and Hickman's previous novels.......2007-06-05
First let me start off by saying that I did enjoy these books. But I enjoyed the previous books more. The Chronicles Trilogy was the first set in the Dragonlance world and I must say the best. It all sort of went downhill from there, albeit a long hill with a small angle but still downhill. I really thought that with The Second Generation and Dragons of Summer Flame that led up to The War of Souls Trilogy, that there would be a "rebirth" (if you will) of the Dragonlance Series. But sadly that wasn't to be. An IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE: I have been led to believe that the writers, Weis and Hickman, actually have very little creative control over the Dragonlance Series. I believe that these books are meant to be companions to the world of D & D. I enjoy reading not throwing dice to see how much damage I do. As such, maybe they threw dice to see how the storyline would unfold. I don't know.
The Good:
The story is great. The action is great. Tas the loveable and unlikely hero is back. There is a lot of action and intrigue to keep you interested. The whole trilogy is one big twist after another.
The Bad:
I'm afraid there may be more bad than good...but only just. The number one problem, and it is SERIOUSLY BAD, is the typos. Did anyone actually proofread this book? I mean seriously it is bad. By the middle of Dragons of a Lost Star (second book in the trilogy), I was almost ready to call it quits just because it was so hard to make any sense of it. Misspelled words...bad punctuation...missing words...extra words. Just really, really, really bad. They need to fire whoever edited this book.
Now about the problems with the stories themselves. POTENTIAL SPOILER
My best advise to the readers about these books and this goes for pretty much ALL of the Dragonlance novels: Don't get attached to ANY character because they ALL die. The writers spend 3 books building a character and getting them developed then kill them. Why would you do that? Take a lesson from R.A. Salvatore or Terry Goodkind and keep your main characters ALIVE. It's what keeps readers coming back for more. If Salvatore had killed Drizzt after his first trilogy, Salvatore's career as a writer would have been a lot less eventful. Same goes for Goodkind's Richard in the Sword of Truth books.
Let's see who has died along the way to The War of Souls. Keep in mind these are MAJOR CHARACTERS!
Sturm Brightblade, Tanis Half-Elven, Caramon Majere, Raistin Majere, Tika Majere, Alhana Starbreeze, Crysania, Goldmoon, Laurana, Palin Majere, Riverwind, Steel Brightblade, Tanin Majere, Kitiara Uth Matar (who needed more development), Berem the Everman (death was justified), Flint Fireforge, Tas Burfoot (dead but brought back) and I'm sure there were others but I think you get the picture. And again these were major characters. Why even bother developing them if they are so expendable? Heck, I wouldn't even bother being creative with the names. Maybe I can write a Dragonlance novel. "Here is Sam. Sam is an elf. Sam has to overcome insurmountable odds to save the world. Sam overcame the insurmountable odds and saved the world. Now Sam is dead." There, I just wrote a whole Dragonlance novel in five sentences.
What was the point of "The Second Generation" and "Dragons of Summer Flame"? They introduce new characters and then killed them all. Stupid.
Summary of my review:
These books have a great story, great plot, and great characters who will all die. Or if that sentence had as many typos as these books...Thes books have great story great plot and grate charactrse woh will all dye.
Engrossing but ultimately unsatisfying.......2007-05-13
I have been a long-time fan of Weis and Hickman and their Dragonlance books. They have an uncanny ability to write engrossing stories full of conflict and angst and failure that somehow still come together at the end on a note of acceptance and hope. In general, the characters end the stories as better people than they started them as, and the price the characters pay is redeemed by what they gain by the end. I looked forward to this new series. The story is certainly engrossing -- I found it hard to put the books down, even during the darkest and bleakest points in the story. But unlike their earlier works, Weis and Hickman don't manage to wrap this one up well. Several story lines end abruptly, as if Weis and Hickman just ran out of steam on them and gave up. More important, almost none of the characters end the story having learned anything important. The sacrifices made by the characters remain unredeemed at the end. I was left disappointed and unsatisfied. Go ahead and read the story -- it is well written. Just be prepared to feel incomplete at the end.
A Dragon Story and Much More.......2007-05-08
What makes this series so fascinating are the set of characters, especially the kender, who adds just the right amount of comic relief, and the freshness that comes from a vivid imagination on the part of the authors. You won't feel like you've read anything like this before.
Great Addition.......2007-03-27
I've been working on the first book of the three and so far I'm enjoying it as much as all the other Dragonlance Novels I've read. If you love the Dragonlance novels, you won't be upset with this pick.

Book Description
During the seventh-century, the land which is now Korea was fraught with political and religious intrigue. The country was split into Three Kingdoms, each fighting for supremacy: Silla, Koguryo, and Paekche. Besides the warring kingdoms, there are three religions in conflict: Shamanism, the ancient female-dominated faith wherein Shamanist priestesses wield great power at court, foretelling the future, performing important national rituals, and healing sickness; Buddhism, the contemplative State religion; and Confucianism, a recent import from powerful China.
Customer Reviews:
Different from the other Royal Diary books.......2005-12-18
This is definetly not your typical royal diary book. Instead of being set in England Or France, this story takes place in Ancient Korea (A.D. 595) with Sondok: Princess of the Moon and Stars. It's a unique idea but the story is indeed missing something. The cover is beautiful and the book is very durable and contains a breif history of Sondok and Korean Royalty at the back. All-n-all, i enjoyed it.
The princess of the moon, stars and the universe.......2005-06-22
Sondok, heir of the royal throne of Silla is more like a man than an elegant lady. She is misunderstood by many of the few people that finally earn her respect in her book. She is a strong and young woman who is interested in the moon and the stars and has a secret love on a servant boy who her father wants her to marry, yet she declines.Sondok is one of 4 daughters who are royal and the heart of Korea. In many parts in this book, Sondok's father is mingling under the influence of a Chinese astrologist.Due to this,Sondok loses a relative, a loved one who is sent far away to never be seen again.Even though the end of this tale is tragic, i must say this is definitely one of the best royal diaries that i have ever read, due to it's suspense and royalty, a pure elegance that has never been achieved in any other royal diary
PS: Has anyone heard of the new books to come
Catherine - The great journey
Anacona - golden flower of Bacal
Maria theresa - The Italian princess
Sondok. Terrific!.......2005-01-29
By putting notes in an ancestral jar of her grandmothers ,Sondok princess of Korea began a diary about the happenings in her life and around the palace.Having an interest in the planets and stars Sondok was quite excited when a chinese astronomer was coming to visit the Korean royal family. But after being rejected by the astronomer and her father and being told that astronomy isn't for ladies ,Sondok sees red.Sondok buried her astronomy case and took on weaving, sewing and studying vowing she would never study astronomy again. But after breaking her vow ,she looses one of the most precious people in her life. This is an excellent new addition to the Royal Diaries Series and should be read by all fans.
I have definitely read better.......2004-03-17
Sondok is a Korean princess who is heir to the throne, much to the dismay of the Chinese, who believe that a woman cannot properly rule.
Another thing that is special about Sondok is that she loves astronomy, and she want's an observatory of her own so she can learn to read the stars and their meaning.
But in Korea at that time it was not considered proper for a woman to study astronomy, but Sondok refused to give up hope that someday she will be an astronomer and rule Korea with wisdom.
This book is good, except I have read better. It certainly isn't boring, though. I thought the part about the New Year's festivals was very well done.
What a wonder!.......2003-11-24
This book was a pleasant surprise for me, a Korean female looking for books in English for little cousins. Queen Sondok has been the most famous & beloved queen to Korean children, especially to girls, like the amalgam of Joan of Arc and Queen Elisabeth the first.
She was the first princess who came to the throne in whole Korean history, and her succession was possible due to the special succession law of ancient Shilla dynasty which put a higher value on the pure royal birth than the genders of heirs. There was no male heir whose both parents were royal then, so Sondok was raised as the heir apparent with formidable duty to answer to love and hope of her own parents and her people in the time of endless wars and diplomatic intrigues. And she did more.
Until this book, I always imagined her as a grown-up, like Athena with full armors springing from Zeus's head, partly because of all stories in historical texts such as the famous her 3 prophecies and the anecdote of Mun-Hee(a lady saved by Sondok from burning at stake) showing her silent bravery, deep understanding of human nature, and somewhat supernatural, shman-like foresight, all three of them which were necessary for ancient rulers.
Holman portrayed her as a little princess rather than a queen who ruled successfully her kingdom for 15 years in a very turbulent time with love of arts and intelligence and deep Buddhistic faith. And it was an interesting move. Even young readers without any knowledge of Korea may enjoy it. Thank you Holman for saving the difficulties of finding an easy and good book.

i don;t have the 3 in 1 volume but i have three books separately and all of the other books. it seems differnt from the animation. i seem to like the book because the amazon quartet comes back so does sailor minimoon but that is in the book. i like the quartet. i hate it because the sailor starlights get killed. i seemed to getting to like them especially yaten. but in the animation they left home to their planet. Nyanko and nezumi were my favorite sailor animates in the book and show. at the end of the book they show everybody in wedding dresses whut is up with that? but i still like the book even for those who haven't seen the show this is your chance to get to see stars.
well worth the money.......2007-05-26
I ordered this item not too long ago and received it just recently. I was very surprised to see that it was very different from the anime. It's not to say that they have always been similar at all. Previous volumes before this one were also different from the anime, but nonetheless still similar. The manga itself seemed to go at a very fast pace, but the story was still very well worth the money that I paid for. This is a must-have for any diehard sailormoon fans out there.
cost way to much........2007-02-25
I love sailor moon but for this book the price is way too high since the other books are between $9.99 and $15.00. I love sailor moon but I am not going to pay that much for a book.

this manga rocks!.......2005-11-19
In fact all of them rock! the whole series is about a teeneger named sarena, aka sailor moon. She fights the negaverse, the blackmoon, while defending the future crystal tokyo and the moon. She has a boyfriend named mamoru/darien and a "family". her real family is on the moon....gone. THe books are great because, i think, they teach you good things to know. The tv show does that 2, but just by saying right out loud at the end. You will find out more about the books if you just read them they rock and the dvds rock butthe books are bettter. I hope this helped u!

A fun and informative hands-on astronomy book for kids........2000-05-21
The Night Sky is an excellent introduction to astronomy for children. I am a science teacher and have looked at many books preparing for my astronomy unit next year - and The Night Sky will be required reading for my class! Information is interesting and exciting. Stargazing is an essential part of the book, but done in the typical "One Small Square" fashion so as to interest and excite children with their new knowledge rather than overwhelm them. I loved this book! A must-have for any young scientist!
Book Description
"All Journeys Are Sacred" Journey with Louise StrongBear into shamanic realms of healing. Meet her teachers as she wanders through middle earth, the lower world, and the upper world, following the path of her heart. Begin in the East, and circle the Medicine Wheel to the North, finding yourself along the way. This is a heroine's journey, correlating with the journey of the fool in the major arcana of the tarot. It is also a story of finding lost soul parts, and finding your way back to your home in the stars. It is about magic, miracles, power animals, angels, witchcraft, shamanism, and shapeshifting. This is Louise's story, the one she knows by heart. And it is your story, too-the one that you forgot. "Remember You Are Magic"

Breathtaking.......2007-04-02
After recieving a reading from Louise I've read her book intensily. It is truly amazing and takes you away into her world with her. She shares this journey with the world and I am honored to have been part of her journey. This book is a must read for all, whether you believe or not. Louise has a true heavenly gift from the gods. I would recommend this book and any in the future as well as her readings and conversations. This book will open your eyes and change your life for the better. Jump in the adventure and enjoy the senses. Thank you Louise for everything, you are a true inspiration to me and I love you for it.

Beautiful.......2007-04-01
I found this book to be a very moving experience. I enjoyed every page of the journey. I've told all my friends about it. Thank you Ms. Strongbear for sharing with us all.
Enchanting & Engaging.......2007-03-16
I found myself traveling along in the enchanted world. Knowing how close you can be to the spirit world in your dreams is a wonderment. I know there are answers in your dreams if you just look and pay attention. Thank you Louise for guiding me through. This is a book everyone should read. Buy two and give one to a friend.
Spellbound.......2007-03-13
Unlike most reviewers, I COULD put Journey by Night down - as when you
are spellbound by a beautiful dream - and you don't want it to end....
My journey through this book took me to a completely new place. I read
and reread lines, passages, poems and chapters. As with anything practiced, it got easier...
to capture a glimpse of what can be possible
on ones own personal journey.
I evolved from an onlooker in that solitary night, to a seeker.
This book and its wisdom will be my bedside companion.
Let us hope there will be many more to come.
I would give this 10 stars if I could!!!!.......2007-03-06
You would have thought Ms. StrongBear wrote books for years. Journey by Night was very inspirational. This is one to remember...come and be a Wayfarer, as Wolf states: "Wayfarer is one who travels by foot, one step at a time. This is a way of learning. Human steps." If you feel lost and alone in the world, travel with StrongBear and meet her animated characters. Once you meet "Jimmy the Leprechaun" and feel his comedic charm, (as he tickles you and himself) but his passionate soul will let you know how similar we are with other living creatures. If you are not satisfied with his cleverness, stroll down the page and take a whimsical retreat into Pegasus world. His world is not filled with long-term suffering and illness; the aura is pleasant--letting you know that the grass is greener on the other side. After reading this book it will answer your question and have you asking questions...you would want to learn more about magic!
I would like to thank you Louise StrongBear for opening up my thinking to a whole new world. I am inspired and I believe you are a healer with the ability to capture your reader. Capturing your reader to make them believe they were there with you while in fear, afraid; but yet, having the courage to find out who you are. Hesitant but eager to connect to helpful strangers; with the question--"Haven't we met before?" Questioning should you give up, but kept your feet planted on the ground as you trotted to your destiny.
Thank you once more for bringing your iridescence as you journey by night. The stars and moon are shining bright for you. Thanks for creating an uplifting story.
