Anyone who has ever read any of Karens books knows that there is no other writer in this day and age that hits every emotion that we all go through in this life, in our own search for why we are here, who we are, and the battles that can and do happen in this life.
The number one moral is that Gods Love and our love for others is the strength to keep us all carrying on in this journey in life. There is hope in all of her books.
It is such a "blessing" to read a book, that everyone whether a believer or not in God who touches our lives in everyday situations with family and friends. There is not one of her books that I have ever been disappointed in. Once you read one of her books you will be "hooked" and can't wait to read the next one.

A friend got me started on Karen's books. Now I have read almost all of her books. When I start one, I find it very hard to put it down - I just want to keep reading to the end. All the books in this series and her other series' are great. I can't wait to find out what will happen to the Baxter family next.

The book is a wonderful nonfiction that displays God's awesome faithfulness and presence through the continued story of The Baxter Family. I was so taken that I could hardly put the book down and I'm eager to begin the Sunrise Series. These books are encouraging in my life as well, reminding me of God's promises and truths in my own life. Thank you for encouraging me in my walk with Christ!
INSPIRATIONAL LOVE STORY.......2007-07-19
This is one of Karen Kingsbury's best books, and certainly her best love story. An award winning book, it's also by far the best of the Firstborn series. She's crafted the characters in the Baxter family so well that you feel as though you are a member of this family. I highly recommend Forever! The Candidate: A Novel

I thought that this new part of the series was packed with excellent marriage advice that is both practical and Biblical. I love this series, and how Kingsbury portrays God's graciousness and mercy.

This is a Top Ten Creepy Children's Book.......2007-10-03
This starts off kind of cute. The mother has a child in her arms and she tells him, "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living my baby you'll be." As an expression of a parent's unconditional love it's a great little saying from a mother to her son. And then you turn the pages, the kid gets older, and the you see the mom sneaking into the teenage son's bedroom and repeating the mantra. It seems a little Oedipus, as I'd not really like to think about my mom sneaking into my room when I was a teenager but ok, still kind of cute.
Then the son gets married and moves away. Happy ending? Not exactly. Now the mother straps a ladder to her car, drives across town, and breaks into the son's house, sneaks into his bedroom and while he's sleeping with his wife next to him tells him "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living my baby you'll be." Ok, having seen Psycho, I have to say I'm a bit disturbed. This continues through the son's life, until the mother is dying, and the son repeats her mantra back to her.
The last page in the book shows the son, cradling his newborn, repeating his mother's mantra to the baby, and the cycle repeats. If this were a movie, I would have expected the creepy horror music to well up, have the son look into the camera and start an evil cackle as the picture faded to black.
A comfort.......2007-10-03
It was my Kindergarten teacher who introduced me to this book when I was about five years old. It was a hard time for me at that age because my mom was gone a lot but this book made it a little easier. The song "I'll love you forever" still rings true today and occasionally I even get a little misty eyed. Looking back I remember singing it to my grandmother who couldn't help the tears that filled her eyes and a slight smile on her face when she hugged me "Your right little one and it will never change". It's a comforting book about love between parents and yes even grandparents that passes on generation to generation.
This is one of my favorite children's books and will remain so. However I believe that sadly now we are becoming more and more politically correct and thats unfortunately effecting our children's books. Judge for yourself but remember that sometimes if you look to closely you lose the magic completely :)

This book is has impacted me in such a way, and from such an early age, that it will resonate forever.
It is only a sad book if you don't know how to celebrate the life of a loved one. I think it's good for children to question the lessons of this book.

I bought this book years ago for my children who are now adults. We have since bought this book for every member of our family/ extended family. We write the main saying in the book on all our correpondences to each other. It is even on the flower holder at our parent's memorial. It is such an expression of pure love to all family members.

You've read the other reviews of this book so you know it is powerful. All I can tell you is that this book is too strong for words. My five year old loves the book but is confused about why I cry and can't ever read the last few pages aloud. If you have children, if you have a mother, this book is for you. It isn't really for kids.

FABULOUS! Thank you Alan Ritz. Buy this book and carefully listen to the author following his recommendations I GUARANTEE you are going to likely have results. The book goes over a wide range of issues regarding enlargement, premature ejaculation, dysfuntion, impotenence, multiple orgasms and male sexual health. INcluding, addressing all the magic,uneffective potentially dangerous options that don't work and all the rhetoric sold bought into. I can't say enough good things about the book. This isn't just take a pill all your challenges resolved what have you. Pay close attention to the nutritional advice it's particularly helpful. I take my suppliments four times throughout the day all the way to evening. Do what I call conditioning exercises. Drink pleanty of fluids limiting my caffiene and be conscientious about what I eat. A very irritating book.......2007-02-04
I read aloud to my kids all the time. I probably spend 30-60 mins a day on average doing so. I agree that reading aloud to kids is very important. I still cannot recommend this book to anyone. I find it difficult to accept the opinions of someone who bases most of her theory on having taught her ONE child to read. Yes, that's correct, she only had one child and this child learnt to read almost by osmosis. She must have been very lucky and had an awful lot of time on her hands. If you want to read a whole book on how reading enormous amounts to children will seemingly teach them to read without phonics then this is the book for you, and you probably believed it anyway. If you want some practical advice backed up by evidence then I suggest Jim Trelease's book "The Read Aloud Handbook". I gave this book 2 stars, because I also think that reading aloud to children is fantastic and has many benefits.
Good Starter Book on Encouraging Reading.......2007-01-08
Mem Fox explains the benefits of reading aloud to children - not only does this help teach children to read, but more importantly the time spent creates a bond between child, book, and parent. The author talks about the three secrets of reading: print (making sense of symbols on a page), language (understanding words), and general knowledge (experiences of the world around us). Majority of the children's book examples given are those by the author herself and this book does not give a list of resources or age-appropriate book lists. I consider this book more of a fun and easy to read introduction for parents or would-be parents.

This book is full of good old common sense views on life and living with another especially in the context of having made a comitment to another. if your interested in the real basics behind maintaining and enjoying a comited relationship with another person, this is a great starting place.
A Life-Changing Read.......2006-12-03
My marriage counselor recommended this book but I had already made up my mind that divorce was imminent. Then the book came in the mail and I read it in one day. It was like Dr. Love wrote about my relationship! It forced me to look in the mirror and realize that if I made changes, instead of expecting only my spouse to change, my marriage might be salvaged. It is an extremely easy and quick read, written using simple language. I cried tears of joy after realizing that hope was not at all lost. The exercises provoked thoughtful discussions with my spouse and we are both now committed to trying many of Dr. Love's suggestions. True love goes through many transitions and you must be able to adapt to the different stages (which takes work!) Buy the book - it shows you how to recognize when changes are needed and how to make them.

Very insightful.......2005-06-04
In response to other reviewers, yes, this book does rely heavily on stereotypes of male and female behavior. If you find you don't fit the stereotypes (and of course not everyone does!), then you'll need to look for another book. But for many (most?) of us, the insights and advice in this book will be very helpful. As I read, I was constantly amazed by how much I could see myself and my husband in John Gray's descriptions. Last night I had my first opportunity to try out his techniques on how to prepare a man to listen...and it worked beautifully! A situation that would certainly have escalated into a hurtful argument was diffused into a calm, brief conversation that left both of us feeling warm and loving toward each other.

Mars and Venus Together Forever is one of the most ridiculous, stupid books that I have ever had the gross misfortune to read. I probably should have expected what I got, considering that Mars and Venus on a Date left me cold, but I read this one anyway because the original Mars and Venus book had SOME interesting insights and I'm a sucker for a cheap book.
Anyone who buys into the stereotypes promoted by John Gray must be barmy. He exaggerates, overemphasises and blusters his way through the 200+ pages - probably with the best motives in his mind - but in the end the stuff he writes is uninspiring and insipid. According to him men and women are still ruled by `ancient' traditions which dictate that women are all do-gooder types who only desire to stay at home, chatting with other women and looking at flowers whilst men are all aggressive cavemen, grunting their way through their lives with zero finesse, a beer in one hand and the TV remote in the other.
I don't see how anyone, man or woman, could read this book without being annoyed. For women, the book is terribly unempowering. If you don't fit in with any of Gray's ideas about what a woman should be then you are labelled as masculine. I don't want to read a book which tells me that when I am at work I am moving towards my masculine side because being goal-oriented, competitive and efficient are male traits. It's all phooey! For men, the book is also offensive. John Gray says that men shouldn't express their feelings because it will cause a woman to lose her attraction for him. No, I don't believe that men and women are the same in all respects - there are gender differences - but in Mars and Venus these are distorted.
Overall this book is not worth your time. Underneath the waffle there may be some good points, but all of these are outweighed by the stereotypes.

Having authored my own book on meeting and succeeding with women, "From the First Date to the Bedroom, the Single Man's Official Guide to Success with Women," I can fully appreciate John Gray's work.
Whereas my book is a light-hearted approach to dating and mating from the male perspective, I will tell you that John does a womderful job in this more serious work. It is definitely worth the time to read.

This information is excellent in helping couples understand that things we say can be taken one way by our partner when we really mean something else. I think it will help a lot of people out there who unintentionally may be hurting a relationship while trying to communicate.

I was extremely pleased with this book. This book is great for any marriage, including good marriages. My husband and I have a solid, stable marriage, but it can always be better and more faith-filled. This book provides a great foundation for creating a great marriage. It discusses bringing Jesus into your marriage and how to be Christ to your partner; how to be a loving mate even when you don't feel like it; what the different "love-languages" are, and more.
This book does mention Catholicism is a few sections, but overall, it is more geared toward any practicing Christian. I highly recommend it to any newly or long-married couple.

If you have any doubts about buying this book, this review is written for you. I read this book in about 1 hour the first time and have read it about four more times since. I loved it! It's truly one of a kind and extremely enlightening. As a new mother, you are overwhelmed with so many thoughts and feelings and this book helps you feel normal and helps you understand yourself in a new way...as a mother!

This book offers much valuable information about what goes on emotionally when your expecting a child, and once you've become a mom. It helps you to understand many of the "why's" about what you may be feeling or thinking. While most books offer information on pregnancy,labor and delivery, they leave a very important subject untouched...the psychological and emotional side of it all. This book is all about that and definitely worth reading.

Although written by a man, this book seems to grab the psychology of a pregnant woman quite successfully. The writer asks the accurate questions and enlightens the reader with the detailed and satisfactory answers. This is not a text book though, it is like a complete novel of the journey of becoming a mother. Highly recommended...

I bought the book today and I finished it. Sterns did a great job. They explained a highly complex developmental theory very simply for everyone who want to learn something on motherhood. I am psychologist who has been interested in their theory in a very sophisticated way for a very long time but I felt that I learned a lot while reading the book. Everyone should read this 'tour de force' to understand themselves, their mothers, their chilhood, their motherhood and also their 'fatherhood'. Congratulations Nadia and Dan !

I am a 44 year old security guard, and this book was given to me by a fireman. I have read it about 400 times. This is the most endearing book I have ever read, and I read a lot of books.
Poor little Ramona is seven years old, and she gets into more trouble trying to be good than anyone I know...except when I was that age...
From wasting the toothpaste to wearing her wonderful new pajamas under her clothes to school, she certainly reminds us of our own childhood...(in my case it was shaving lather). I am online to find other Ramona books.

Kind intentions, wrong focus............2007-07-29
I lost my mother at the tender age of 7, and was also raised in a somewhat dysfunctional family. A couple of years ago, I started college, and I felt that my emotional baggage was so getting too much in the way, so I bought a lot of self help books to find a way to feel better and move on with my life.
Sadly, this was one of the books that did not do it for me. Although knowing certain traits about people who lost their parent(s) early did help me acknowledge some of my characteristic, (like my having little interest in small talk), it did nothing to get me out of the rut that I was in. I was left with the feeling: what now?
I am proud to say that I have resolved most (if not all) of my emotional baggage, and I'm now someone who looks to the future with hope and aspiration and doing extremely well in school, etc. What was my inspiration? I found a purpose in my life: I want to be successful and make good money so that I would have a comfortable life and be able to help my loved ones lead more comfortable lives. I also plan to donate a lot of money to charity once I start making good money (I'm still in school).
People may have different aspirations, but I find that as long as you have a dream, it will help pull you through a lot of hardships. Of course, there were many other things I learned along the way that helped me cope with my past better. I read a ton of self help books, I go to a great university that taught me how to think more critically about life. So it was a long journey to peace of mind for me, but well worth the effort.
I guess my main beef against this book is that, like most psychology-influenced book, it focuses too much on the past and on damage that has already been done, and not enough on the possibilities in the future. The hope for a better future is what pulls a lot of people out of a rut.
I will be compiling a listmania thing of books that has helped me, if you wanna check out the stuff I've read.
A story that parallels my own life.......2007-01-17
I was one of the people initially interviewed for the book when it was being written. After the book was published I was so deeply affected by the overall effect of all the lives that Ms. Harris had so beautifully interwoven. For the first time in my life I no longer felt so alone having been a child who lost a parent at an early age. I think this is must reading for anyone of any age who has gone through this experience or knows others who have had this experience.

This book is a must read for anyone who has lost a parent in their childhood. I was talking about it today at my book club meeting where four out of seven us lost a parent at a young age. We all agreed with a lot of what was written in this book. Three of us had tears in our eyes as we described our experiences. We all had tears rolling down our cheeks when one of us told about going to elementary school and the other kids could have their mothers be the room mother and how she didn't have a mother to do this. This woman is in her 40s. Realistic look at those of us who were so unforunate to lose a parent and how it defined our lives.

My 45 year old husband died suddenly of a heart attack. He was a very thin, active person who never smoked and had NO family history of heart disease. Besides dealing with my loss I was distraught at this staggering blow to our three children, 18, 15, and 10. This book gave me hope that our children could go on to live whole and happy lives in spite of this loss. Eight years later, our children have, for the most part, thrived. I recommend this to anyone dealing with this tragedy in their lives.

This book was a life-saver for me some 10 years ago when my husband, at age 40, died from cancer. We had two children - ages 5-1/2 and 20 months at the time - and this book helped me empathize with their plight and grief at their daddy's death.
As hard as his death was for me personally, I understood after reading this book that the experience was at the time -- and would be in the future -- far harder for them. It let me shift focus away from myself and to something far more important -- helping guide their little hearts and minds into stable, secure and productive adulthoods.
