Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

5 out of 5 stars Cigarette Boat King.......2007-07-19

I have really enjoyed this book. I like true stories, and am especially interested in speed boat racing, and stories about how the Mafia infiltrates businesses, and eventually takes them over! It certainly is an interesting read.

5 out of 5 stars Interested in Offshore Racing? Meet your idol, Mr Don Aronow.......1998-07-16

If you have an interest in offshore racing, take the time and read this compelling book about the father of the the industry. Ever heard of Thunderboat row? Find out the impact he had on some of the largest manufacturers in the country, and their attempts to to keep him out of the boat building business. You will learn about the rise and murder of Don Aronow and how state law enforcement of Florida(at the time led by the infamous Janet Reno) either bungled the investigation, or for whatever reason, let his death go unsolved. You will learn of the allegation that Don Aronow had ties to the mob, South American drug smugglers, and to the DEA. At the end you can surmise what you will of what his life was about, but you can't take away what he meant to the sport of offshore racing. Read it and pay homage.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent . . . A Must for the boater and mob afficionado!!!.......1997-03-17

This book has to be the best summary of politics, drug running, the offshore powerboat industry, the Mafia, crime, corruption and intrigue that I have ever read!! Aronow was an old friend of my family's in New Jersey and when he got murdered we all waited for the book to come out, sure enough it did and was excellent. If you love the mob, fast boats, fast cars, fast horses and beautiful women, BLUE THUNDER is a MUST READ!! Enjoy . . . . .H.L., Florida

Book Description

A searing attack on the Democrats from one of today's most engaging political voices, and an incisive strategy for victory over the Republican party

Air America Radio host, Laura Flanders, the best-selling author of "Bushwomen," believes there are no such things as "red" and "blue" states. Even in the most surprising places, she's finding progressive change. From Vermont to Salt Lake City to Las Vegas's famous Strip, she journeys through the heartland USA and discovers a simple truth: people don't vote for the GOP because Republicans represent their interests; they vote Republican because Democrats barely field a team.

Adamant, opinionated, funny, and always engaging, Flanders chronicles what she's learned from scores of voters and activists-about how change is happening in Main St. USA, even if it rarely catches the attention of the so-called mainstream media. Mormons defending women's rights, casino owners teaming up with waitresses to raise the minimum wage; blue collar construction workers and lesbian mothers working together to make their workplaces safer and more secure for all. Flanders finds young, supposedly "alienated" Americans, who are driving scores of new voters to the polls.

Fiery polemic, assured narrative, and acute political commentary, Blue Grit will be crucial reading for everyone interested in the future of the Democrats, and this country. Based on Flanders' bottom-up style of journalism, it tells a story of good news: progressives are coming after the conservative establishment with new talent, new ideas, newmedia and new cash, and they have their sights set on building a new progressive movement, whether the Democratic Party is ready or not.

3 out of 5 stars More like Blue Snit........2007-06-10

I just finished reading this book, and my take-away impression is that half the book is about brave individuals working alone or together in little three-or-four-letter-acronym political activist groups to advance "progressive" causes, and the other half is about what is wrong with the Democratic Party.

The book is half blue grit, and half blue snit. It seems there's a split in the Democratic Party these days, and in this book Laura Flanders explains in detail why and how this came about. This would be interesting reading, I would think, to anyone who's into politics, be they on the right or the left.

I don't consider myself a "progressive", but I enjoyed this book mainly due to the detailed accounts of the inner workings of politics, at least on the Democrat side. I also enjoyed Laura's fun, upbeat, not preachy and not mean writing style. I don't agree much with her politics, but I'm reviewing her book not her politics, and it's fun to read.

My one major criticism of the book in general has to do with the order in which material is presented. We start out with detailed accounts of people and activist groups I've never heard of in states where I don't live (Utah, Nevada and Montana) and the one-little-story-after-another just got quite tedious after a while. I almost stopped reading the book after the first two chapters. I suppose a "progressive" would just love this stuff but not being one I found it boring after a while. It would have worked better for me to start with the national stuff that I've been watching in the news for the past few years and then work into the local stories.

One thing this book did for me is confirm what a "progressive" is for me. According to Laura on page 9, "Those on the Left, to a greater or lesser degree, hold to a belief that this whole society is set up to serve those with power and wealth, and oppress all those without." And that's why I don't call myself a "progressive" because this sounds like good old-fashioned 19th century Marxism. Are we still in the South before the Civil War? Do we live in Russia in 1916? How cynical can you get? I would never be confused with someone wealthy or powerful, but a lot of the way our society is set up does serve me, and I don't feel particularly oppressed by anyone or anything. Perhaps I'm just not enlightened enough.

Another thing I would have appreciated is a real bibliography. There are "notes" in the back, and just enough for me to realize that someone who worked on this book understood the concept, and then did just little enough so that it looked like they didn't care.

Then there's the stuff I found downright funny.

On page 178, Ms. Flanders writes, "Much as I love my listeners on Air America Radio, for example, it worries me how little they like to hear from anyone with an opposing point of view." That kind of honesty is as unusual as it is refreshing.

On page 158, she writes about the Fairness Doctrine and says, "The elimination of the doctrine, by the Federal Communications Commission under Reagan, opened the door for Rush Limbaugh and around-the-clock, one-note, wingnut talk radio." The irony of that coming from an Air America personality is beyond words.

On page 186, Ms. Flanders is writing about why the rich out vote the poor. She writes, "In contrast to most advanced democracies, the right to vote in the United States isn't conveyed automatically with citizenship and coming of age. Voters have to prove themselves and always have, and the challenges related to registering, qualifying, and having one's vote be counted have always worked to help manipulate or suppress votes." Really? I can't even remember what, if anything, I had to do to get my voters' registration card. I haven't had to do anything since. My biggest problem with voting is forgetting to do it.

Anyway, this is a fun book to read regardless of the author's politics. And, unlike preachy pundit books, even someone on the other political side from the author can learn something.

5 out of 5 stars This American Life: Flanders is a Political Ira Glass.......2007-05-24

I loved this book, I simply didn't want it to end. Another volume maybe, Laura?

Flanders is a top-notch storyteller, social observer and enthusiastic cheerleader for progressive social change. Her style is refreshing and human; she's tough on all the right assholes, gentle with the good guys and emphatic as she bursts many a bubble of disinformation, misinformation and outright deception. But more than anything, her stories of the courage and committment of small "d" democratic activists across the country make you want to jump into the fray and make a difference in the ways her heroes did.

It's easy living in a progressive city (Flanders reminds us that every metropolis with a population above 500k went for Kerry--take note DNC) to feel defeated by the inability to make real change that matters. For a year following the disastrous 2004 election, Flanders crossed the country, from New Orleans to Utah, from Montana to the Vegas Strip. And while the post-election pundits chastised the Democrats for not being mainstream and centrist enough, Flanders tells us the real decisive victories happened on the progressive left. In union halls. On Indian reservations. With young people. All of whom pounded the pavement to wrack up historic numbers in terms of voter registration and Democratic votes. And yet the Democratic Party infrastructure, ever the gang that couldn't shoot straight, under-appreciated, misunderstood and outright negated these victories time and time again. Flanders talks about the union rep who remarked that "Republicans reward their friends, Democrats reward their enemies."

Flanders' frontline reportage is biting and witty, acerbic and generous. Here she is on the lack of grassroots infrastructure to support change long term: "What the [Democrats] built was a Penthouse Party: all top-floor suites, no load bearing walls, no foundations, no functioning stairway to the street." Time and time again she nails it. What I loved is that like Ira Glass on an episode of This American Life, you find the dramatic, detailed account of regular folks fighting the good fight inspiring and memorable. More, more, more.

1 out of 5 stars Tripe.......2007-05-11

The title of the book tells all: another oxymoron not worthy of a rebutal.

Why some people think the Democratic (or for that matter, the Republican Party) can be changed from within is beyond the scope common sense. Flanders will jump on the Democratic nominee's bandwagon regardless of the candidate. Like the Republicans, the Democrats represent corporatations; those who pour billions into their campaigns. These are not donations at all, but rather 'investments' and corporations expect a return for those investments by way of legislation favorable to their agendas.

If you really want to read something insightful about politics in America, try A Peoples History of the Unites States by Howard Zinn.

5 out of 5 stars True Blue.......2007-04-16

Laura has made a career of spotlighting and supporting the people. She not only reminds her readers (and listeners) the power lies with us, but more importantly, politics is not just for the politicians. Blue Grit is a guidebook for anyone wanting to get involved in changing the Democratic party from a beltway Republican-Light party into one where the power flows from the bottom up and the party leaders recognize it. The stakes have never been higher, thanfully Laura is here to help show the way.

5 out of 5 stars Ground Truth.......2007-04-15

In this riveting new book, Laura Flanders defies the category of Non-Fiction. With the unflinching stories delivered from the mouths of this new 'purple' movement, and heard through the gorgeous prose style and poetic verse rendered on these pages, we feel real blue grit and new hope for social change in the United States. This book will upend the inaccurate perception that real bravery has abandoned the democrats. These new
heroes are here, in the pages of this book, making critical alterations in the political and social landscape of the ongoing experiment that is still America. Laura Flanders delivers these voices to us at a perfect moment.
It is moving, shocking, upsetting and inspiring, and will pave the way to a brand new way to make our social dreams come true. I'm standing in line for her next book.

3 out of 5 stars BIG DEAL.......2007-05-28

Picture this scene and try to imagine what it is all about. `A lone figure was standing up...balancing like a statue....His mighty arms were raised upwards to the sky, and his face stared in ecstasy into the heavens beyond....Donald Macdonald was alone with his God.' Was Mr Macdonald perhaps a survivor of the massacre of Glencoe? Had he routed the minions of Butcher Cumberland? Well, no. This Mr Macdonald had just won the annual Oxford/Cambridge boat race in 1987.

I have never been sure of the propriety of invoking the help of the Almighty in achieving victory in sport. Does He really tip the balance in favour of whoever prays hardest (assuming that both competitors have kept to the rules and put in equivalent amounts of effort)? That sounds to me like obtaining an unfair advantage. I quite agree that top-class sport is a serious business, but surely there comes a time when obsessiveness over it begins to seem just a trifle silly? Even if we let divine intervention take its own course (and I could think of more pressing priorities for it in 1987) does some - any - annual rowing competition really amount to a matter involving lifelong enmity? I have just read Dan Topolski's memoir of this eventful event with genuine interest and a sense of involvement. In all conscience it was quite a saga and the issues were such as he or anyone would have needed to face with proper seriousness. Nevertheless what kept springing irreverently to mind was a tale of dirty work behind the scenes in the preparation for the vicarage egg-and-spoon race in one of the Jeeves stories, and I experienced an increasing longing to have this narrative retold for me by P G Wodehouse.

The background was that Oxford, perennial underdogs in the boat race, had been coached to a string of victories by Topolski followed by a bad defeat in 1986. A gifted American in the 1986 crew saw salvation in bringing other gifted Americans to Oxford for 1987, and these showed determination to have things done their way rather than Topolski's. Topolski's main ally was the Oxford `president' (sc captain of the crew) Macdonald, and both were opposed with contempt by the new Americans. The imbroglio that followed centred round two matters - the training methods and the tactics used by the `mutineers' to get their own way. Topolski obviously tells it all his way, but he makes what seems a genuine attempt to be fair while remaining convinced that he had it right. As regards the training I am completely unable to judge of the issue. Topolski imposed a gruelling regime, and the Americans did not wish to be gruelled. As regards the `political' battle, Topolski depicts the Americans and their growing band of supporters as taking the stance `if you just capitulate there will be no problem.' How the other camp saw it I don't know, but the picture is at least a familiar one from similar battles in large organisations - a party taking this attitude and then encountering resistance typically acts the victim and alleges unreasonableness, perfidy and character defects to the other side whom it was trying to attack.

The American who set the process off was not the prime mover and shaker as it developed. That was another American, studying at Oriel College, and the epicentre of the shaking is referred to throughout as `the Oriel bar'. From my own considerable experience of that in the previous generation, I'd guess that any brimstonish plotting would have more likely taken place in the Oriel junior common room, the rooms of the various insurgents and the Bear Inn. Oriel was represented particularly strongly among the candidates for a place in the university boat, and to crown matters the headquarters of the crew was, coincidentally, Oriel Square just outside the college gates, so that Oriel came to have a significance for Topolski of something like Mordor.

The revolt grew and gained a large following, and Topolski's picture increasingly becomes one of the saintly Macdonald fighting unscrupulous and implacable opponents, finally winning first the tactical battle of procedures and then the 1987 boat race. The latter triumph was against all odds, as the American stars had been thrown overboard and what was largely an Oxford B crew defeated what appeared to be a particularly strong Cambridge outfit. Clearly, Topolski and Macdonald were justified by results, but the arguments still went on afterwards and the malcontents achieved a minor victory in the selection of the next president, although Topolski's appendix summarising their subsequent history has an unmistakable air of virtue triumphant from his point of view. His tone becomes more biblical as it all goes on, even involving latterly opposing factions from two redoubts of Catholic monasticism. As a closing vignette we hear a brief exchange between the Jesuit prophet of the angels and the organiser of the axis of evil who upbraids the former for being an American who spoke against the American side.

I have no reason to doubt Topolski's version by and large. What I don't really understand is how the revolt got itself so many adherents, although Topolski's simple explanation, namely that these didn't know what they were talking about, could be the simple truth of it. One slight disappointment, considering that Topolski is by career a photo journalist, is the photographs. With each twist and turn of the narrative, I tried to inspect the features of the protagonists, but the selection seems rather random. In particular one picture that ought to have been memorable, of a punch being thrown by a particularly upstanding Englishman at an American cox depicted throughout as odious, fails to depict that in any way I can see. The picture of the American who started it all off rowing in an Oriel boat also puzzled me until I found that he had returned after completing his Oxford course to provide coaching at Oriel, which had not been his college. The upshot was that the Oriel boat, on paper the strongest in Oxford, was knocked out in the first round of its next competition. I lament this from the point of view of Oriel, but I suppose they need to take care who they deal with or it will all end in tears.

1 out of 5 stars Dull Dull Dull.......2004-03-10

No-one has managed to make the sport of rowing interesting and the film made it look like a petty sport. The whole story about Dan's way or the the high-way comes clean here. The book is a bit more of a ripping yarn, but if you are a true officianado then you should read Alison Gill's book "Yanks at Oxford" as all the facts a clearly here to be seen.

Dan dusts over the facts and this does the sport of rowing a dis-service.

I pray for the day when we have a real book which underlines our passion for the sport.

God Save the queen and the Jolly sport of rowing.

4 out of 5 stars Lessons beneath the politics of sport.......2001-12-05

I am puzzled that this book seems to have been taken out of circulation sometime in the last two years. It is now impossible to find it in any bookstore, and virtually impossible to find a new copy for sale anywhere online. I feel fortunate that I had bought my copy before the publishers froze their presses. Perhaps, it is deemed too sensitive in the Boat Race world to merit further propagation.

The book is written from the viewpoint of the Oxford Boat Club coach, Dan Topolski, who's had to deal with the tumultuous mutiny staged by the American rowers on his crew. His only ally was the club president, Donald MacDonald. The book paints the Americans as villains and prima donnas who could neither adapt to nor accept the harsh training practices and traditions of the Oxford Boat Club. Obviously, this book is highly partisan in its viewpoint, and has the agenda of attributing blame and responsibility for the mutiny amongst the American rowers, most of whom are still living and active in the rowing world.

Beneath the politics and the purpose of the book, however, it is still a worthwhile read. Topolski and his co-writer Robinson, do not write with a light trivial style. Topolski takes his statements seriously, substantiating them with systematic arguments that appeal by turns to logic, common sense, and the rugged traditions of elite rowing. He explains the psychology of rowing, of pain, of excellence, of teamwork, of self-sacrifice, with a passion and detailed understanding that can be quite exhilarating to read. When I was still active as a rower, I liked to underline key phrases in his book which I found to be extraordinarily motivating. Unlike "Assault on Lake Casitas" which is a macho book about a macho rower overcoming the odds, the prose of "True Blue" is very deliberate, very British, slightly ironic, sometimes moralistic, shorn of excessive testosterone, but always impactful. The Topolski-Robinson team is quite a remarkable marriage of sports wisdom/passion and writing sophistication.

I am sorry that the book is now almost extinct. I have a feeling that the American rowers indicted in the story may have rallied against it -- it is obviously biased but it is also quite convincing, making a devastating case against the American oarsmen. I do not know if the dispute is settled with any consensus in the rowing world, or whether the rowing world is still divided about whether the Americans were the cause of the unhappiness and scandal in the Blue boat. Apart from the political ramifications of the book and the agenda it advances, I have plenty of praise for its insights into the spirit of sport and rowing.

and I got thoroughly personally embroiled in this tale of incredible determination on the Thames, which is the most fantastic place to row. As a rower I would recommend this especially to anyone who wouldn't mind a bit of extra motivation! Topolski man, you F---ING RULE!

4 out of 5 stars Trying to understand.......2007-08-09

I just finished reading this book. I already had read several books from Sylvia Browne about some of the same similar events. So it was fascinating to learn there is more than one person who has the same theories. Since this is so, it helped me to believe even more. I am new to this "demension". I have lived under this happy vail of a cartoon world. Now things are starting to make sense. I also do wish Stewart would elaborated more and was a better writer but he got the point across even if it was crass. I am still not sure if that afair was due to the "drugs and programming" or an excuse to fool around. Hahaa!! Doesn't matter, I loved the book. I am excited to read more.

4 out of 5 stars Mind Blowing.......2007-07-16

If this book is really authentically true, it has the potential to revolutionize our human social belief systems! I'm still shaking my head over it and will need to study it at greater length to truly understand the concepts presented. One thing is certain--I will DEFINITELY read more from this author. He has really sparked my interest!

5 out of 5 stars You will never see the world the same way again.......2007-06-21

As early as high school I became preoccupied with what seemed to me to be three very divergent intellectual pursuits: (1) finding the true path to spiritual enlightenment, (2) answering the questions of what, who and why concerning UFOs, and (3) uncovering the truth behind the ruling elites of the Illuminati and how they had come to hold all the reigns of power in so few hands, whether financial, political, commercial or religious. Every book I read seemed to hold some piece of one of these puzzles, but it was only after many years of research that I began to realize that all three topics were really interrelated and actually just different facets of one much larger subject.

By the time David Icke's "The Biggest Secret" came into my hands I was already intimately familiar with much of what he had documented in that consummate work; all except for his central premise that the Illuminati were some kind of shape-shifting extra-terrestrial reptilian-human half-breeds. Not that I had any trouble accepting the notion that these folks were somehow different from the rest of us. That was clear just by the fact of how they were able to sustain a concerted course toward world domination over countless centuries. But shape-shifting reptiles? Too sci-fi even for me. And unfortunately, Mr. Icke's presentation, while long on eye witness testimony, was short on the kind of historical and how-come evidence necessary to convince me that his premise was even plausible.

Fortunately for all of us, Stewart Swerdlow's masterpiece, "Blue Blood, True Blood," suffers from no such short comings. It was not only the most detailed, plausible and credible history of planet Earth for the last one million years it has ever been my pleasure to study, lifting all the veils of our suppressed history, genetic, political and religious, it also made the convincing case against the reptilian-ET-Illuminati that Mr. Icke had failed to do. Whatever your personal interests or beliefs, if you read only one book this year, I strongly recommend that you make it this book. You will never see the world the same way again.

5 out of 5 stars Believe what you want, but..........2006-08-23

The things in your life that have been presented as "fact" are nothing more than that: presentations. Ultimately the mind must decide what is true and what is not. Is there physical evidence for the claims made in this book? Very few. Does that therefore make the unsupported statements untrue? No.

It's not surprising to see negative opinions on a book with information that, if true, would paint an entirely new picture of human history, present, and future. For those claiming Stewart is ripping you off or taking you for a ride, then prove it. If your world is built on physical and external proof, then where is your proof he is lying?

It's a book. In it is information. Take it or leave it. Stewart makes no attempt to convince his reader. It is up to you to learn the truth. He doesn't come off as some back alley watch peddler hustling for a penny. He says "Here's what time it is. Believe it or don't".

If you've got that gnawing feeling in the back of your mind that things just aren't what they seem in this world, then do yourself a favor and read this book. Use your intuition and figure it out. It's up to you.

"People step into the [Alaskan] landscape and vanish without a trace," writes wildlife guide Lynn Schooler in this ode to the wild beauty of the Alaskan coast, an unusual friendship, and a mysterious bear with fur the color of "burnished metal." Schooler spent a decade searching for the elusive blue (or glacier) bear with Michio Hoshino, Japan's preeminent wildlife photographer. Hoshino was a gentle genius who would sit still for hours, his face swelling from mosquito bites, for the perfect photograph, and who had the same patience and consideration for a bruised heart like Schooler's. Schooler had lost all ability to trust, scarred first by the scorn of classmates for his twisted body and finally by the brutal murder of the woman he loved. But as a guide--both for wildlife photographers and for readers of this evocative and gracefully composed memoir--Schooler richly reveals the place that sustains him. He makes remarkable connections between whales and the complex workings of old-growth forests, between glaciers dropping 100-foot columns of ice into waiting fjords, and the breathing of the planet. Ultimately, though, it is Hoshino's death by a bear that finally enables Schooler to make peace with humanity and death. A quiet, profound gem. --Lesley Reed

Book Description

With a body twisted by adolescent scoliosis and memories of the brutal death of a woman he loved, Lynn Schooler kept the world at arm's length, drifting through the wilds of Alaska as a commercial fisherman, outdoorsman, and wilderness guide. In 1990 Schooler met Japanese photographer Michio Hoshino and began a profound friendship forged by a love of adventure and cemented by their mutual obsession with finding the elusive glacier bear, an exceedingly rare creature, seldom seen and shrouded in legend. But it was only after Hoshino's tragic death from a bear attack that Schooler succeeded in photographing the animal -- and only then that he Was able to complete his journey and find new meaning in his own life.

Set amid the wild archipelagoes, glittering fjords, and dense primordial forests of Alaska's Glacier Coast, The Blue Bear is an unforgettable book that shines with purity and passion.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Not all that great a bear tale but...........2007-04-02

The theme of this is really the author's life, both past and now as a small boat captain in Alaska's dramatically beautiful south coast. If you are passionate about bear stories this is not that great. Toting the Japanese film crew got old and his own entry into photography was tedious. Taken in total with the cultural history, the sea, forests, wildlife, and glaciers, and the author's own qwest it is worthwhile, but certainly not epic.

5 out of 5 stars A book to consider........2006-11-11

A slightly slow start, but please persevere, as this book has so much to offer. Set in Alaska, with glorious descriptions of this environment provided by Lynn during the search for the elusive blue bear. However, I believe the real story lies in Lynns life experience, his battle for a normal childhood, his relationship with his father, his yearning for true love, the pain of loss, and his almost self imposed exile in this heaven on earth.

5 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Book.......2004-12-10

The Blue Bear is a fantastic read! If you are at all interested in Alaska, nature, wildlife or friendship I am certain you will love this book.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful book worth reading........2004-05-14

My only regret is that the book wasn't longer. Every page is full of descriptive prose and fascinating narrative. You will feel like you're there with the author, either on the boat, hiking in the wilderness, or examining the joys and sorrows of friendships gained and lost.
What a well-written book!

5 out of 5 stars Elegant writing reveals love of wilderness.......2004-03-11

Elegiac is the perfect word to describe both the cadence and direction of this book: somber, straightforward, yet filled with joy. We come to know both men -- the author and the late Michio Hoshino -- through dialogue and description that is utterly natural, yet weighted with meaning. Pivotal scenes are described so elegantly that you want to read them again and again to extract every nuance of mood. Small vignettes speak volumes, such as the visit of the two men to a village where hundreds of native women and children died by starvation due to a US government relocation program. Or the choice of the author to pilot the boat away from Hobart because he could not bear the sight of the ravaged hillsides.
The author's lightness of touch is captivating especially because it is paired with such a deep knowledge and love of the flora, fauna and weather of the region. Reading Blue Bear, you become effortlessly acquainted with the Alaskan coast, as though it is indeed home, and come to mourn its slow, relentless destruction. I look forward to Lynn Schooler's next book.

5 out of 5 stars Unique and Original Stories.......2007-10-02

The stories are sexy, adventurous, candid and seriously hot - just like the down to earth men who inspired this collection. Edited by Bob Condron, his introduction sets the tone for this anthology and teases the reader with what is yet to come. There are absolutely no romantic dinners or quiet walks on the beach to be found here, but a few stories do explore a tender and sensual side of these tough guys with a couple hinting toward something enduring. Just sweat and muscle and heart pounding stories of men who are bigger than life. I can honestly and whole heartily recommend this to anyone who has appreciation for the blue-collar man.

There are 25 unique and original stories, all interconnected with a common theme. There's the amusing story of a man and his awkward late night encounter with a local mechanic, a tourist visiting American who has an adventure with the American wildlife in the form of two hairy bears and a delightful tale of the soda man (my personal infatuation) who delivers a young man's first-time.

My favorite is from author Peter Eros, a gentle and poignant coming of age story of a young man who learns about living and loving from his blue-collar neighbor. The story is so beautifully written and intense with emotion; the author's parting words painfully sincere. This one alone is worth the price of the book.

Contributing authors are Bob Alexson, Johnny Bricklin, Derek Broadie, Bob Condron, Landon Dixon, Zack Dorsey, Hank Edwards, Bo Erickson, Peter Eros, Jay Fordee (2 stories), Darren Gahn (2 stories), William Holden, Ray Jansen, Tom Lever, Charles Long, Steve Michaels, Piers O'Brian, Christopher Pierce, Mark Rutland, Andrew Semaj, Simon Sheppard and Rob Tiernan (2 stories).

Book Description

After September 11, 2001, Las Vegas Police Sergeant Randy Sutton began soliciting writing from law enforcement officers-his goal being to bridge the gap between the police and those they serve, with a book that offers a broad and thoughtful look at the many facets of police life. Hundreds of active and former officers from all over the United States responded: men and women from big cities and small towns, some who had written professionally, but most of whom were doing so for the first time. The result is True Blue, a collection of funny, charming, exciting, haunting stories about murder investigations, missing children, bungling burglars, car chases, lonely and desperate shut-ins, routine traffic stops, officers killed in the line of duty, and the life-changing events of September 11. Here, officers reveal their emotions as they recount the defining moments of their careers. Some of the stories include:Two cops' desperate search for a missing child feared kidnapped The revival of the one-month old baby who was shot in the face in a drive-by shootingA patrol officer's dramatic showdown with a hostage-holding gunmanOn-the-scene details of rescue and tragedy during the 9/11 terrorist attacks

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars TRUE BLUE.......2007-06-06

So... This is an amazing book that allows you to reach down deep into the minds and souls of the police officers. Just like Sutton's "A Cops Life" I found this book to be amazing. It also has a section dedicated to the officers of 9/11. Sure we have all heard about 9/11 but have you heard true behind the scenes, in the hearts and minds of a police officer who responded that horrible day and survives?

5 out of 5 stars Real.......2007-01-10

I believe that this book really captures a lot of what being a cop is about. People who aren't cops that read this book will be shocked at some of the things we see and do, but it's true. I think it should help them appreciate us more. As a cop, I found the book to be entertaining and motivational.

5 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down!.......2006-11-12

After reading each of the stories in this great collection of true police stories I was anxious to see what the next offered. The book is very difficult to put down.

I thought the officers told their stories very honestly and openly. Excellent read!

5 out of 5 stars True Blue Shows Police Officers as Humans and Heroes!.......2006-07-13

The author reveals in the begining of the book why he wrote it, to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the general public after 9/11. He lives up to this statement. After reading True Blue I have even more respect and admiration for what law enforcement officers must face each day on the job. The most important discovery upon reading this book is you will see police officers are "humanbeings" with feelings. Some of the stories made me laugh while others made me cry. I look forward to the publishing of "A Cops Life" in August of 06. Everyone should read this book!

3 out of 5 stars A Mixed Bag.......2006-01-20

Like many story collections, this one is truly a mixed bag. Among the highlights are some delightfully funny annecdotes of crimes gone wrong and some heartwarming stories of police at their very best. However, there are also stories that are criminally mundane, and others so syrupy sweet they border on offensive. The extensive section of 9/11 stories is overkill. There is little there that hasn't already been said many times over, with the common theme being that we owe a debt of gratitude to those gave the ultimate service to their country that day. A noble point, but one that has been made repeatedly. Sutton offers nothing new about 9/11, its heroes or its victims.

Book Description

Imagine walking to the same place every day, to meet your best friend. Imagine watching hundreds of people pass by every morning and every afternoon. Imagine waiting, and waiting, and waiting. For ten years. This is what Hachiko did. Hachiko was a real dog who lived in Tokyo, a dog who faithfully waited for his owner at the Shibuya train station long after his owner could not come to meet him. He became famous for his loyalty and was adored by scores of people who passed through the station every day. This is Hachiko's story through the eyes of Kentaro, a young boy whose life is changed forever by his friendship with this very special dog. Simply told, and illustrated with Yan Nascimbene's lush watercolors, the legend of Hachiko will touch your heart and inspire you as it has inspired thousands all over the world.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Touching Book.......2007-05-15

It is hard for me to read this story to my daughter without getting choked up at the end. It is a sweet book that talks about a dog's love and loyality. I figure this is a great segway into another tear jerk classic, Charlotte's Web!

4 out of 5 stars The Love of an Akita.......2006-10-27

The story of Hachiko is one of the most moving accounts of the bond between dog and owner. Hachiko, a beautiful curly tailed Akita was the revered pet of one Professor Ueno, who named the dog after the number 8, which he considered a lucky symbol. Hachiko was his 8th Akita.

Sadly, Professor Ueno died at work in April of 1925, some 15 months after he bought the Akita. Hachiko faithfully walked with his loving owner to the Shibuya train station every morning and could be counted on like clock work to greet his owner upon return. Even after his owner's death, the curly tailed dog continued coming back to the train station to await his return.

This continued for 10 years until the Akita died in 1935. A statue of the dog was erected at the train station as a nod to his show of loving loyalty. Hachiko, like Balto, the malamute who braved storms in 1925 Alaska during an epidemic has been immemorialized in statue at the train station where he faithfully awaited his owner's return.

A beautiful moving story that might make you cry. Even so, it is worth reading. As wonderful as Hachiko's story is, I preferred Leslea Newman's book about the loyal curly tailed Akita.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful story.......2005-06-14

This is a well known old story in Japan. It is a sad, but beautiful story of a friendship with a human and dog. Hachiko is a Akita that somewhat stubborn but truly royal disposition. He was waiting his owner even in a cold snow day until he died.

4 out of 5 stars Sit, boy. Stay........2005-05-14

A parent was speaking to me the other day in my library (I'm a children's librarian, you see) and she wanted some nice picture books on dogs for her child. Naturally my mind jumped to such modern day classics as Bob Graham's, "Let's Get a Pup, Said Kate". "No", the parent said. "Something about a real dog". That's a significantly more difficult request. Right off the top of my head I had a hard time thinking up any seriously well-written non-fiction doggish titles. We scanned the 636.7's, when my eye alighted on a very new book indeed. I suggested, "Hachiko: The True Story of a Loyal Dog" without hesitation. After all, it had appeared on the New York Public Library's list of the great children's books of 2004. However, when I described the plot the patron pooh-poohed it as "depressing". And since I had not actually read the book myself, I was powerless to disagree. Now I come back to "Hachiko", having read it at long last, and I'm mighty sad that I wasn't able to defend it to the dog-seeking patron. Though containing sad elements, the book is a loving testament to one canine's love for his master.

Our hero is Hachiko, a large Akita dog that was owned and loved by its master, Dr. Ueno. Through the eyes of a small boy we see the dog return to the railroad station every day to wait for Dr. Ueno when he steps off the train from work. The boy loves the dog but is content to simply pet and hug it at the station. One day, the boy hears terrible news. Dr. Ueno has passed away, and naturally the boy's first question is, "What will happen to Hachiko?". Some kind relatives attempt to take the dog in, but to their surprise Hachiko continues to wait at the station every day for his lost master. For almost ten years, faithful Hachiko would wait for Dr. Ueno to come home. No one knows the dog's motivation, or if it really understood what it was waiting for. After its death, however, the people of the town raised the money to create a large bronze statue of the pup in its honor. A replica of that statue stands in the Shibuya Station of Tokyo to this day.

Okay, so maybe the whole idea of a dog waiting for its master to come home for years and years, not realizing that he's dead, is sad. But it's also the perfect material for a children's picture book. Not surprisingly, his tale was co-opted not only for this book but also for the slightly older reader, "Hachiko Waits" by Leslea Newman. But how well does it work here? First, I was surprised that it was categorized as non-fiction. Though the tale of the dog is true, the aspect of the boy who interacts with him was made up for the purpose of the story. The book is a bit sparse and formal as well. Long blocks of text will run on one page while the facing page shows a large full-page illustration or just a little picture with a sentence. This means that kids will probably have to have this book read to them, rather than the other way around. I could've enjoyed a more creative layout here. Fortunately, Yan Nascimbene's illustrations are lovely. Hachiko himself, oddly, looks a bit stiff for a hero. But the cherry blossoms, darkening evening scenes, and general feel is beautiful to the eye. It may be a little formal for a children's picture book, but no one can argue with its attractive qualities.

In a way, I don't blame the mother who wasn't inclined towardds the book. The audience for, "Hachiko" is a select one. But it truly is a lovely story, and one that I hope many kids will get a chance to hear at some point in their lives. Though not the most inviting package, it delivers a sweet emotional punch.

4 out of 5 stars great for dog lovers.......2004-12-24

Hachiko is a young puppy who lives with his owner, Professor Ueno. Everyday when Professor Ueno goes off to work the dog is there to tell him goodbye. He waits for his owner at the train station all day long. One day the Professor Ueno dies while away at work. Hachiko waits for him still, ten years pass by. This story is told from the point of view of a young boy who witnessed this love and devotion.

This was a unique story. I had heard of it before so it was nice to see it told in picture book form.

I would recommend this book to all dog lovers. It's a very inspiring story.
