Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Volume 4 of the 3-in-1 Tintin series begins in the middle of an adventure, concluding the story begun in The Secret of the Unicorn. (Keeping all the two-part stories together was not possible in the 3-in-1 format because chronologically, the Unicorn/Rackham and Crystal/Prisoners two-parters are back to back.) Red Rackham's Treasure follows Tintin and friends as they search for the pirate booty procured by Captain Haddock's ancestor, Sir Francis Haddock, in the West Indies. They receive some unexpected help in the form of a hard-of-hearing inventor named Professor Calculus, who would go on to become one of the most endearing characters of the series. (Herge admitted that the character was one "whom I never suspected would take on such importance.") It's a lot of fun, with some submarine and diving adventures, humor from the Thompsons, and an unexpected (but satisfying) ending. The Seven Crystal Balls begins on a light note, as Captain Haddock tries to adjust to his new life as a gentleman following the events of Red Rackham's Treasure. He wears a monocle and frequents the music hall, where in a not-unusual coincidence he and Tintin happen to find General Alcazar (The Broken Ear) and the dreaded diva Bianca Castafiore. However, it's the act of fakir Ragdalam with Madame Yamilah, the amazing clairvoyante, that reveals the central adventure: the scientists excavating the tomb of Racar Capac have incurred the curse of the Inca. Despite the efforts of bungling detectives Thompson ("With a P, as in Philadelphia") and Thomson ("Without a P, as in Venezuela"), the explorers are stricken, and one of Tintin's closest friends disappears mysteriously, leading to a trip to Peru in the second part, Prisoners of the Sun. After The Seven Crystal Balls set the eerie stage, Tintin and his friends continue their adventures in Peru. There Tintin rescues an orange-seller named Zorrino from being bullied, and the young man becomes their guide in their quest to find the Temple of the Sun. But they find more than they bargained for and end up in a hot spot. The perils of this engaging two-part adventure are especially harrowing in their combination of the supernatural and the real, although the resolution is a little too deus ex machina. Calculus and the Thompsons provide their usual comic relief.

The 3-in-1 format provides excellent value, but the small size (about 40% smaller than the single-story paperbacks) makes it harder to enjoy the detail in Herge's layouts. --David Horiuchi

5 out of 5 stars Awsome book.......2007-08-04

We grew up reading these books. And I wanted to buy these for my son too. So as soon as he started reading some big books I ordered them and bought them for him.He loves it. He loves Captain Heddock,Thompson and Thomson. Wow what great stories and what great characters. Must read!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic little collection........2007-06-27

Don't be fooled by the size of this little book. Other readers have stated how the pictures seem much to small in this more compact version of the comics we loved as children. These are just as visually stunning as the original size comics. Best of all, it is hardcover and will not get damaged (a problem I had with the originals) and they are compact enough to take on a car ride. My son is now as much of an addict as I was at his age. Happy reading!

5 out of 5 stars Always a favorite.......2006-09-16

Tintin comic books have always been a favorite. And I like the fact that now you get three stories in one volume - helps to complete the series quickly. Great for kids and for adults.

5 out of 5 stars A rich part of this bilingual Canadian's heritage.......2006-09-09

Volume 4: Red Rackham's Treasure (1944), The Seven Crystal Balls (1948), Prisoners of the Sun (1949). This is fourth instalment of my reviews of each of the seven volumes.

By now, the core members of the Tintin series have been assembled, though further secondary additions will be made. Tintin, the volatile Haddock and the deaf, distracted Calculus, and of course Snowy, Tintin's dog, will be inseparable friends throughout the rest of the series. There are some parallels between Haddock and Snowy, such as a love of booze and vulnerability to temptation, and Haddock's appearance has taken some of the spotlight off Snowy, but the dog still has its day - or days - as the series matures. The Thom(p)sons and the Castafiore adorn the circle of friends, while Dawson, Mueller, Allan and not least, Rastapopoulos, come back at times as foes.

Red Rackham's Treasure rounds out the adventure commenced with the Secret of the Unicorn (see my review for the previous volume). Professor Calculus, who enriches the series no end, makes his inaugural appearance, in which he is the inventor of a mini-submarine. A great adventure with pirates, treasure, submarines, and scaphanders. Oh yeah, and Nestor, too. Wouldn't want to omit him...

The Seven Crystal Balls begins another two-parter, with American Indian mysticism pitted against soulless European rationalism, and the most terrifying sequence I have ever seen in a comic book. Good god, I couldn't sleep after reading that one. After reading this adventure and its sequel, and not before, check out the official Tintin site for a striking analysis of a single panel, so that you can understand the pure richness of Hergé's creation. The sequel, Prisoners of the Sun is a pinnacle in the series, with the heroes' labyrinthine course into and out of trouble, culminating in a magnificent twist on the mysticism vs. rationalism theme set out in the prequel.

"

When Charles Wycombe, the dashing and incorrigible Earl of Billington, toppled out of a tree and landed at Ellie's feet, neither suspected that such an inauspicious meeting would lead to marriage. But Charles must find a bride before his thirtieth birthday or he'll lose his fortune. And Ellie needs a husband or her father's odious fiancée will choose one for her. And so they agree to wed, even though their match appears to have been made somewhere hotter than heaven ...

Ellie never dreamed she'd marry a stranger, especially one with such a devastating combination of rakish charm and debonair wit. She tries to keep him at arm's length, at least until she discovers the man beneath the handsome surface. But Charles can be quite persuasive -- even tender -- when he puts his mind to it, and Ellie finds herself slipping under his seductive spell. And as one kiss leads to another, this unlikely pair discovers that their marriage is not so inconvenient after all ... and just might lead to love.

"Brighter than the Sun" is the first book that I read by Julia Quinn and I really liked it. Ms. Quinn gives her readers charming characters and romance. This was the first book by Ms. Quinn, but it will not be the last.

1 out of 5 stars is this a joke?.......2007-09-15

having read many julia quinn books in the past, i was looking for one i hadn't had the pleasure of reading before, and came across brighter then the sun. wow, this was awful. so awful i never finished it i was THAT bored. [and i will finish anything, just because i can't bear to leave something incomplete.] i am really stunned that this was published or that julia herself considered it worthy of her name and talent. such a disappointment and waste of time. sigh:(

3 out of 5 stars Not Ms. Quinn's best..........2007-07-03

I was going to give this book 2 stars, but added and extra one, because for all the deficiencies, JQ really IS great writer. Her dialogue is witty and positively sparkles.
That said- Ellie is an annoying shrew and the hero Charles was like every other hero in every other JQ book. And I have read them ALL. (With the exception of Phillip I guess, in Sir Phillip with Love but I digress. )

JQ uses as her plot, one of my pet peeves with Regency romances. We have a simple country Miss, with no prospects and no funds (that she can legally get her hands on , since we ARE in the 19th century where women were not equals). She and the Charles- a Duke- enter a marriage of convenience yet somehow she wants to control their relationship. She made a clear stipulation that Charles should not kiss/try to seduce her...because he does not 'love' her... What is up with superimposing 21st century romantic ideals in a god damned mariage of convenience JQ?! Where does LOVE come in a marraige of convenience? And why would Ellie think she can refuse her husband the marital bed ? And why would he agree ??
Who are these people , and why are they masquerading as Regency people ?
Gah!

Book Description

It is a secret that has been hidden for more than a half century. . . . The clues have been scattered across the globe. Now someone has begun to piece them together—and the future of the world depends on his being stopped in time.

In Maryland, a vicious gang breaks into the National Cryptologic Museum and steals a Nazi Enigma machine. In a London hospital, an Auschwitz survivor is murdered in his bed, his killers making off with a macabre trophy—his severed left arm. In Prague, a seemingly worthless painting is stolen from a synagogue. Three cities. Three puzzling thefts. Could there possibly be a connection?

When former art thief Tom Kirk is first asked to investigate, the Prague theft certainly seems unremarkable enough—until the stolen painting turns up alongside the amputated human arm. As Tom digs deeper into the past, both items appear to be elements in an elaborate trail of clues laid down in the dying days of the Third Reich by a secret order of SS knights—clues that stretch from the remote mountains of Idaho to the snowy streets of St. Petersburg and ultimately lead to a fabled treasure lost in the ashes of war.

Spurred on by the sinister light of the Black Sun emblem, ghosts from his past, and the poisonous manipulations of a deadly enemy, Tom finds himself trapped in a situation where the greatest prize of all is life itself—and not just his own. . . .

This is the first book by Twining that I have read and I would have read Double Eagle first if I had known it had the same main character.

I won't summarize the plot for you since many have already done that. The plot is great and really draws you in. The storyline isn't all that new since there have been books written about The Amber Room but Twining does a good job by not making it boring. Like others have said, there is little character development, but that is alright since the book moves fast. The chapters are short and reminds me of James Patterson and that is fine by me since short chapters make you want to read more and more. I found some parts of the book similar to The Da Vinci Code but there were only a few. For example, the key that Tom and Archie find. Since I haven't read Black Order by James Rollins I can't tell you how similar they are.

To finish this off, I really liked this book and I will read The Double Eagle next and I'm waiting for his next novel, The Gilded Seal, to come out.

4 out of 5 stars Black Sun, Dark Heart.......2007-02-15

In another few years WW II mystery writers will be hard pressed to find anymore "Live" Nazis to write about. Unless of course they do stories on time travel, age enhancement drugs, or some other ingenious plot line.
All that aside, Mr. Twining weaves an interesting tale of espionage, lost artifacts, Nazi legends, and evil men with historical fact to produce a most entertaining novel of suspense. The plot was simple: What happened to the Nazi Hungarian Gold Train at the end of WW II? To answer this question Mr. Twining has the reader go on a treasure hunt; with clues, numerous bad men, and much travel. The only problem is that he tries to pack too much into the 400+ pages. At times you needed a scorecard to keep track of all the players and organizations looking for the Gold Train. Because of all this the story at times became superficial in order to include all the different threads of the plot. Nevertheless, It was an interesting read.
Character development was shallow. There were simply too many characters to examine in depth. If the protagonist, Tom Kirk, becomes the chief character in a series then I will read Mr. Twining's other book, Double Eagle, to hopefully get a better feel for him. Other characters will need to be fleshed out if continued.
No gratuitous violence or sex. Good use of historical knowledge. Interesting suppositions.
Recommended. A good read while waiting for that delayed flight.

4 out of 5 stars Good follow-up to Double Eagle..........2007-02-11

Having read James Twining's Double Eagle when it first came out, I looked forward to his follow-up novel, The Black Sun. While I didn't find it quite as riveting as his first novel, it was still a very good read with plenty of espionage and legends...

Tom Kirk, the former art thief from Double Eagle, is working within the bounds of the law now and minding his own business. He's asked to look into the disappearance of a painting from a synagogue. It's nothing special, but his former partner has pieced that together with a number of other thefts of works by the same artist. Even then, Tom's not overly interested until other crimes start to intersect with the paintings, like severed arms and stolen Enigma machines. These clues lead towards a secret society of German World War 2 leaders symbolized by the Black Sun emblem. This group supposedly hid a train filled with gold in a mountain as the war came to an end, and now an unknown number of groups are racing to find the clues that will point to the exact location of the prize. Tom's expertise in art and other darker skills has him on the leading edge of the hunt, but others are also using him to discover the correct trail. And you can figure that the one who gets there first isn't going to leave many loose ends wandering around...

I found the story rather compelling, as all the historical elements (the Black Sun emblem, the gold train, the Amber Room, etc.) are real and have stories behind them. Weaving this fictional tale into actual events causes it to come to life in a way many novels do not. I don't think I liked the book quite as much as his first, as there was a lot more character development in the first one. You could read these books in either order, but reading Double Eagle first will give you some background that you won't quite figure out here. Even so, I'll be on the early list to read whatever his next novel is...

3 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars for this because I think Twining was peaking over James Rollins's shoulder for this one........2007-01-23

No spoilers.

Anyone who has read Black Order by James Rollins will recognize that the foundations for The Black Sun are strikingly similar. The whole time I was reading this book, I kept jumping back and forth between "this is just a bite off of Rollins" and "actually, it's much different with just the same subject matter." While the subject, the Black Order of Nazi Germany is the same in both books, this one, as I found out as I continued to read on, is different in that what the Black Order is supposed, by the authors, to have been responsible for is different. Either way, this story did have me wanting to read on to untie the knot of the plot, so it did indeed serve it's purpose as an entertaining novel.

However, I did have a problem with it toward the end. Without giving anything away, the ending just barely falls short of being entirely satisfying and is sort of jumbled in how it unfolds. I often found myself questioning who the hell they were talking about when the "cape is revealed" and all the truth of the story finally comes out. Basically, it could've been a little bit more clear and could have lost a few characters and been better.

All in all though, not a bad story and I definitely enjoyed it, so I would recommend it very highly to any read who hasn't read Black Order, and somewhat recommend it to a reader who has.

5 out of 5 stars An expertly written and researched espionage thiller.......2007-01-13

"It was one of the greatest works of art ever made. It must be worth hundreds of millions of dollars. What else would have warranted Himmler assigning his most elite troops to guard duty? What else would they have gone to such lengths to conceal?"

At this point, Tom Kirk, art thief turned thief catcher, has unraveled the mystery that lies at the center of THE BLACK SUN. He thinks.

Kirk is collaborating with the people "I don't trust...never have. Never will." --- the British intelligence services. To maintain his chosen lifestyle, always on the move and always on the prowl, waiting for that lovely day when he can retire to the Cayman Islands on his ill-gotten gains, Kirk is sometimes forced to cooperate with the law. In this case, if the bloody stump of sliced-off arm and an apparently worthless painting lying beside it in his freezer weren't enough, there is the intriguing possibility of catching up with missing pieces of his past. Kirk believes that the man he is hunting can tell him something important about his father, an international art thief who died carrying secrets that continue to torment Kirk.

We know that the British can write spy thrillers. They may have invented the genre, beginning with one Bond. James Bond. Bond's creator, a roué of the upper classes, had experience in spy-craft during World War II. And there's John le Carre, author and former practitioner of the craft of espionage. THE BLACK SUN is the brain child of a new voice in the literary art of intrigue. James Twining is an Oxford graduate and international entrepreneur who has done his homework well, researching the treasures that Kirk and the bad guys are out to recoup, and cleverly connecting their factual history to fictional antagonists. The legendary Hungarian Gold Train and the remarkable lost Amber Room each plays a role.

When the arm is examined, Kirk and his Foreign Office minders find that a tattoo has been surgically removed from it. Assuming it to have been a concentration camp number, they reconstruct the markings. What they uncover is far more puzzling, and leads Kirk on the road to the inner sanctum of the Black Sun, the perverted Nazi cult of Camelot. Always dogging the trail of the elusive Renwick, who he believes holds the answers to the mystery of his own father, Kirk finds that the treasures stored up by the infamous cult reach far beyond the world of great artworks. Despite extreme and constant danger, Kirk is compelled to chase the demons of the past and confront them. As the beautiful Viktor tells him, "You're angry, like me. I can see it in your eyes."

THE BLACK SUN, the second in a series that started with THE DOUBLE EAGLE, spans two continents and two centuries. It has enough twists and switchbacks, grit, gore and glory to satisfy the hardcore thriller fan, and enough historical detail and cleverly conceived spy-craft to rope in the lovers of the intellectual espionage genre.

Book Description

Raised by her aunt and uncle at the rectory in the small English village of Grimston Way, lovely Evy Varley remembers little of her missionary parents and nothing of South Africa, the land where she was orphaned during the Zulu War of 1878. But when Sir Rogan Chantry, the arrogant and handsome son of the local Squire, accuses Evy’s mother of stealing the infamous Kimberly Black Diamond, Evy sets out to prove the rogue wrong and clear her mother’s name.

Secrets abound, however, from the diamond mines of South Africa to the halls of her own beloved rectory. Strangers come to Grimston Way for their own mysterious purposes, a stunned Evy finds that her own aunt and uncle may have concealed disturbing truths about her family, and the dashing Sir Rogan has his own reasons to seek the missing diamond.

Yet despite Rogan’s seemingly rakish ways and the class differences that render a romance between them impossible, Evy finds herself drawn to the man who was once her childhood friend and now holds the keys to her heart. Faced with a dangerous past and an uncertain future, Evy must draw upon her wits and her faith to pursue Tomorrow’s Treasure.

A story of faith, danger and romance, Tomorrow’s Treasure is a masterpiece of historical suspense fiction.

3 out of 5 stars Excellent story; so-so writing.......2007-07-29

This was the first book by Linda Lee Chaikin that I ever read and I must admit that I very nearly stopped reading it after just a few pages. Ms. Chaikin has a tendency to introduce many characters all at once, without giving any information on their background or how they are related to the other characters. Throughout the first couple of chapters, I really felt like I was reading a soap-opera. It wasn't until halfway through the book (or later) that some of the relationships were fully explained. That could have been done when they were introduced without detracting from the story whatsoever, and it would have allowed me to enjoy the story more thoroughly without constantly flipping pages back to figure out how a certain character was related to another.

Perhaps even more frustrating were several grammar and spelling errors that I cannot solely blame on Ms. Chaikin. Surely, every book that is published passes through several people's hands before it ever reaches a bookshelf. Whoever proofreads her books does not do their job, however, because these spelling and grammar errors are present in every book by Ms. Chaikin that I have read.

Criticisms of writing technique aside, Ms. Chaikin has a gift for weaving stories. This is the type of book that once you start reading it, you will not want to put it down. It is an excellent story involving a very loveable young lady who falls in love with a man that seems to be out of her league. I would recommend that you also get the other two books in the series, as they continue the main story line.

If you can muddle through the writing technique and often soap-opera like familial associations, then you will truly enjoy the story.

4 out of 5 stars Good book!!.......2007-05-03

I wish I could give it 4.5 stars! I think 5 stars should be preserved for my absolute favorite books, although this was good, I still like some others a little better.
I really liked this book, although I think it is a bit frustrating at times; the main character is sometimes too much like a door mat! Besides the door mat thing, I liked the characters and how the story ends! I liked the plot and the storyline too. I can't wait to see the next book, I want to see what happens next!! Good job Linda!

5 out of 5 stars Great start to a great series!.......2006-12-30

What a refreshing series! Once again, Linda Chaikin delivers a tale of romance, intrigue, murder, and fascinating history...she's so unique in the Christian romance world. Although this book is slower in its pacing than her Egypt trilogy ("Arabian Winds", etc.), I was interested at all times because of the wonderful interactions between Rogan and Evy. The relationship between the two was perfectly paced and wonderfully written. The plot was interesting as well...I grew up in Africa, so I was eager to read all the fascinating facts about the history of South Africa. I'm just getting started with Linda's books, and I can't wait!

5 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable!.......2006-10-04

Just finished this book and was very pleased, can't wait to read the next two. The beginning of the book is a little slow and it does go on and on about her childhood but it is well worth it in the end. I would like to marry Rogan myself! All in all, a very good read.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome!.......2006-05-23

This is a really good book! If you haven't read it then your missing out on one of Chaikin's best series! Tomorrow's Treasure is both a romance and a mystery. Definately a book you won't be able to put down!

    4 out of 5 stars spanish influence.......2006-02-03

I really enjoyed this book, especially the Spanish parts. It was such a relief for me to read a Dodd book that was not in England or present day. The story was a little sketchy sometimes, but it was definitely a book that I didn't put down until I finished it.

    2 out of 5 stars Disapointed.......2005-05-25

I got this book based on the reviews and was very disapointed. I don't know if my book was edited but it seemed like some of the story was missing. The story line was good but she didn't develop the main charaters attraction for one another. There was no conversation or interaction between the characters and I couldn't understand what brought them together. All of a sudden the're married and the girl doesn't love her husband and has doubts about their nationalitys. She's american and he's spanish. Why did she marry him then? The majority of the book made no sense.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Old West.......2002-07-22

This was a great story as well as a very interesting background into the early days of California prior to the annexation by the United States.

Katherine Maxwell traveled to California from Boston to be wed to Tobias a man she dealt well with and offered her a chance to escape from family bondage. Fate had it that her marriage would be short lived and, one week after the wedding, Tobias was murdered. His best friend Damian de la Sola would make sure that Katherine would be looked after, and he brought her to his hacienda and let her mourn there.

Damian did this, not only for his very best friend, but for himself, as he had known from the moment he first saw her coming off the ship that he would burn for his best friends wife. Being the gentleman, he would have to hide his true feelings, and he would honor her year of mourning. He was honor-bound to protect her but would be relentless in her pursuit before he would let her leave.
Finding out that it was the secret of a fabled treasure that Tobias had been killed for, the 'treasure of the Padres' They would both follow their destinies and find that the real treasure was their love for one another.

I enjoyed the characters and their personalities. Katherine, though reeling from having her husband murdered in front of her, was really quite feisty when she wasn't fainting at the sight of blood. Damian was the very hot, arrogant, and very sexy Spanish lover. The scene between her cousin, and the two of them after they married is priceless! Super story. I highly recommend this book.

    5 out of 5 stars I loved it!.......2000-06-08

This is one of the best books I have ever read. There was great chemistry between the hero and heroine, and a wonderful story between them. I have always loved reading Christina Dodd because she always writes great books.

    5 out of 5 stars Great Book!.......2000-04-01

The hero, Don Damien De La Sola, is a hearthrob hero to die for. You will fall in love with him ten pages within the book. And Katherine is a typical sensible heroine typical in Christina Dodd's books. There was good chemistry between the hero and heroine, and their love was so real. Anyone considering this book, i'm telling you, you will not be dissapointed in this one.

    Book Description

Eight billion dollars’ worth of Inca gold and silver are rumored to be hidden in an unmapped region of the Andes. This is the captivating story of that fabled treasure and the centuries-old spell it has cast on many, including a young American student, Peter Lourie.
While completing anthropological fieldwork in Ecuador, Lourie heard the legend of Atahualpa’s ransom. The Incas gathered seven-hundred tons of gold (Sweat of the Sun) and silver (Tears of the Moon) to purchase the freedom of their king, Atahualpa, from Pizarro and his conquistadors. After the Inca ruler’s murder, the treasure vanished into the forsaken Llanganati range of the Andes.
Lourie abandoned his graduate school ambitions to search for Atahualpa’s ransom. His quest for clues and his journey into the heart of the Andes is an absorbing and exciting detective story. Lourie’s account is also unforgettable for its revelations about the lives and characters of seasoned treasure hunters, the obsessed few lured by the siren song of legendary gold.

    5 out of 5 stars "Enthralling!".......2001-05-09

I was enthralled by this book, it is excellently written and gives the reader a true feeling of what it is like to have "Gold Fever". I have recently finished the book but I am reading it again because it is that good! It is also extremely educational, I knew nothing about the Incas until I read Sweat of the Sun, Tears of the Moon. I am now longing to take a trip to the Llanganatis mountains, not in search of treasure, more on a pilgrimage than anything else.

    5 out of 5 stars A Treasury of Characters.......2001-01-27

This was a great story of the possibility that vast wealth in gold and silver are still hidden in the Andes. The various doccuments and treasure hunters that the author unearthed and befriended made for a ripping yarn. His own expedition to the trecherous landscape where the treasure is supposedly hidden was a real adventure. He cared about the people he wrote about and the reader will too. Loved this book!

5 out of 5 stars This is thrilling and intelligent, great book........1998-09-25

I first read Sweat of the Sun, Tears of the Moon in the original Atheneum hardcover. What a fine book! It's not your usual treasure-hunt adventure, but a sensitive portrayal of South American culture and dreams. Well, it's also a treasure hunt, and you can't believe Lourie lived through it all to tell the tale. I'm so happy to see it in paperback A really fine book by a fine author. His young-adult books are extraordinary as well. But this one's a must for any reader interested in the Andes, in treasure hunting, in the human soul in darkest peril. Five stars all the way. This is one of those books you keep thinking about for years.

4 out of 5 stars This is an O.K. book.......2004-01-27

I thought this book was O.K. I think this because it was a good book overall, but some parts were hard to understand. Some of the language is older and words such as thee and thou are used.
The book is about a boy who is captured by pirates who believe that since he was born at the stroke of midnight he can see ghosts. They captured him because they are trying to find treasure that has a ghost buried on it.
I would recommend this book to any one who likes books about pirates or someone who likes fantasy books.

4 out of 5 stars A fun romp with pirates.......2002-04-08

With Ghost in the Noonday Sun, Sid Fleischman created another story that is a fun read and very memorable. Oliver, who was born
exactly at midnight, gets kidnapped by Captain Scratch to help find treasure that's supposedly guarded by ghosts. Scratch drafted young Oliver for the job because it was said that people born exactly at midnight can see ghosts. This story, as with By the Great Horn Spoon, definitely deserves multiple readings.

    5 out of 5 stars An All-Time Great.......2002-02-28

Fleischman totally engaged me as a child and impresses me as a teacher. (This isn't a kiddy book. Precocious fourth and up could handle it.) Here he covers whaling 19th century New England while dishing up a funny, thrilling book using the archetypal spunky kid and errant dad combo that appears in many of his works.
Oliver is a self-sufficient boy with an absent father. In the end, through his own ingenuity and moral choices, he finds not only his actual father but a genuine father figure: The reluctant wanderer who ultimately does the right thing.
I think this is a fantastic book. My elementary students loved it read aloud. It is so lacking in condescension, so UN-patronizing, it is an adult read as well.

I picked up this book because I enjoyed The Whipping Boy and like good stories about pirates...I thought this book would be a perfect match for me.

I did enjoy the book, but it felt like it had no real content. The story is the traditional type. A bored young boy finds adventure on the high seas when he becomes unwillingly entangled with pirates. Sound familiar? I found myself constantly reminded of Treasure Island while reading this. If you're just looking for a pirate tale, you'll do better to pick that up.

However, if you've finished Treasure Island, and absolutely loved it...if you're stomping around the house shouting "Shiver me timbers!" and "Avast there, matey!", then you'll find this book to be enjoyable enough. Just don't expect anything too memorable or thrilling. An acceptable light read. It should be noted, too, that the book may appeal more to middle school boys than it did to me. I certainly am not within its target audience.

    Book Description

The words of Thomas Yellowtail, a revered Sun Dance chief of the Crow Indian tribe, are brought to life by the internationally known American Indian actor, Gordon Tootoosis. The book is illustrated with over 100 previously unpublished color and sepia photographs from as early as 1903 and traditional American Indian motifs. Also included are interviews with prominent Indian leaders, advice to American Indian youth, and special features on traditional Indian spirituality. Native Spirit is a stunning feast of rare visual images from Crow and Shoshone religious life.

This is a wonderful book. The photographs are incredible and the writing is informative, not at all what you might have been taught. I have a new appreciation for the Sun Dance. Get the accompanying DVD as well and buy one for a friend!
