The Hidden Heart of the Cosmos.......2007-09-30
This is a scarey honest book about our society and it's values. But Dr. Swimme also offers an alternative. If you are absolutely certain of your beliefs and have all the answers you need about life, you will not like this book. It is for people who may not yet know everything.
A very positive and healthy vision of the universe.......2007-02-26
Brian Swimme is a very passionate man who is well-versed in science and cosmology. At the same time, he is a deeply intuitive man and deep feeler. This book is an introduction to his point of view on man's nature to the cosmos and the necessity for not becoming disconnected to nature and the wonder and awe of the universe. It stresses the interdependence of everything and focuses on the mystery and awe of the universe and the world of nature. This is something most of us have been taken for granted at least at times. In short, it is an invitation to step of the treadmill of the daily grind to look at the big picture and be inspired by feeling our way into the improbability of it and the heart that is ultimately at the center of the universe. Brian believes every child should be introduced to the story of the cosmos and his unique place in it as the culmination of billions of years of evolution. He espouses a return to feeling part of the creation rather than acting on it as an object. If more people did this kind of reflection, I'm sure the world would be a better and safer place.
DEATH TO CONSUMERISM.......2001-01-28
Brian Schwimme has an archaic nostalgia. For thousands, even millions, of years, people have united together to marvel at the mystery of the cosmos and contemplate the essence of it all. It was the same macrocosm that each and everyone of the primitive cave dwellers to modern man have directly experienced. But nowadays, we don't do that. We disenchant the world by scientific explanations that view the universe as a machine, to the point where the mathematical explanations of phenomena are more significant than phenomena itself. You might be thinking, no way, the majority of the world is religious, and contemplate such things regularly. He points out that the problem with modern day religious thought is that when we ponder the deep questions of meaning in the universe, we do so in a context fixed in the time when the classical scriptures achieved their written form, rather than worshiping in the context of the universe as we have come to know it over the recent centuries. Such knowledge is restricted to "science" which is at odds with religion. It shouldn't be like this. The Scientific Revolution was an age of this separation. The current cosmology calls for an age of integration. I am all for this goal of striving for a new consciousness. Within our Newtonian minds, we've built such tiny worlds like this, which resulting from the machine view of a dead universe, we apotheosize and deify consumerism. This book doesn't bicker about God or anything that people don't want to hear, it's just saying, "Wake up from this man made world, cast back the veil from your eyes, be at one with this LIVING fecund universe!" You will truly be LIVING in the world once you appreciate the heart of the cosmos, which all though is around 15 billion light years away, is also every where at once. There is no restriction to science. The new cosmology is what has mystified the men of all ages, what they spoke of as the Tao, or the Logos - the emanating source of all creation.
A much needed vacation from humanities molded reality.......2000-01-07
I personally found this book both extremely inspiring and enjoyable to read. Swimme's method of unveiling the truth about advertisments and consumerism and how they shape our veiw of reality is ingenious. At the same time, the book takes you on a scientific journey of the universe that incorporates feelings of mystical awe and wonder that many books fail to acomplish. I have read everything from Fred Wolfe to Brian Greene. However, Swimme envokes a deeper feeling of appreciation for science, the workings of our universe, and humanity in general. All his books, especially this one, have something new to say and add a human touch to science that is long overdue. This is definitely not your run-of-the-mill new age book and I recommend it to anyone who is passionate about preservation of the environment or just plain curious about new ideas concerning reality and the world we live in.
A decent but not outstanding book by Brian.......1998-08-27
This book falls somewhere between the cerebral 'Universe Story' and the poetic 'The Universe is a Green Dragon'. Brian is struggling to bring the beauty and feeling of the universe into perspective with the consumerism which rules the day. If you had to pick a single book by Swimme, it would be 'The Universe is a Green Dragon'

Shinobu Kokoro: Hidden Heart.......2007-10-05
This Book with the three different stories in it. I s very excllent and I wish there would be a book two fromthis same authur. I would recommened buying this book if you are into a very go read.
Somewhat Disappointing.......2007-03-17
Though it seems like hot ninjas and yaoi should be a recipe for one yummy manga, SHINOBU KOKORO: HIDDEN HEART leaves a reader's appetite less than satisfied.
The book is a collection of stories that focus on a school of sorts for young wannabe ninjas. The sensei's got a thing for his pupil, and through various 'training sessions' that revolve more around having sex than learning anything else, this certainly isn't a typical dojo! But the stories suffer from terribly weak plots, uninteresting dialog and artwork that looks pretty in some panels and scratchy/coarse in most. I'm sensing the mangaka might have been rushed to meet a few deadlines during the initial serialized release of this manga in Japan.
There are some redeeming qualities, however, the most important one being the abundance of love scenes! For a quick yaoi fix, SHINOBU does it's job nicely. But for collectors who would rather save their hard-earned cash for more worthwhile reads, skip it.
Re-read-ability for this manga is a "4", meaning I probably won't pick it up again, but would give away to a friend if s/he were interested.
Hot Sex, Scant Plot.......2007-03-06
First of all, I have to say that, as the title indicates, there are a lot of sex scenes in here. Pretty hot ones, too. And it's about the most uncensored I've ever seen in a yaoi manga.
However, the plot is....let's call it lacking.
By the way, this is spoilers galore down here.
Really. I spoil everything.
I'm serious.
Story one: Ninja-in-training+Ninja master. This arc is split into two stories. Part One basically consists of secks, love confession, and more secks. Story Two is basically sex in a schoolboy outfit. I cannot stress how ridiculously everything that happens in the story is obviously there for the sole purpose of instigating sex.
Story two: Two ninjas. Confession, sex. One falls off a mountain. Now this would be a good plot twist, if the other ninja didn't find him about two pages later completely unharmed. Sex ensues
Story three: Boy and Snow Spirit. It's never specified how young this boy is, but it's not so young as to give readers the icks. Some may call this shota, I personally don't. This story isn't half-bad. VERY fluffy, romancey, never any conflict to speak of, never any plot to speak of for that matter.
If you're looking for some quick hot sex fix, go for this. But be warned. I count myself as somebody who will overlook some plot gaps for a good romance. But this, I found myself rolling my eyes at. Good for hot yaoi, bad for good plot.
My first Yaoi.......2007-02-09
I'm surprise i even picked this up one day. but ever since i got it, i've become hooked on Yaoi. My guy friends run away when i even say the word....and my best friends giggle as they look at the books with me.
I LOVED this. Nice cute couples and stories, not to mention nice art and sexy scenes. The only problem i had with it is that the stories are short yes....but...a little too short. I like Yaoi series more then collections of short stories, but overall i loved this manga!
Very sweet plot and beautiful art!.......2006-05-01
I really like this yaoi novel because there are three diff stories in one. The art is simply amazing, a must have for a yaoi fan!

Not a good book.......2007-10-09
Sadly, I have to agree with some of the negative reviews about this book. One of my biggest pet peeves is Big Misunderstanding in a book. It's even more irritating because the Big Mis leads to long separation and a deep emotional scar to both Hero and Heroine. Had I known this from the beginning I definitely wouldn't have picked up this book. To think that all of this could have been prevented by a simple dialog between Hero and Heroine. Grrr..!!Add to that the hero's treatment to Heroine that really leaves me cold. Throughout the book, I can't see a single reason for the heroine to fall in love so deeply with the hero. When the book finally comes to an end (a rather simplified ending considering what they've been through), instead of the satisfied feeling I normally get after reading a happy ending in a romance novel, I feel sorry for the heroine for always being the one who gives and gives and gives in their relationship. Not a happy ending in my book.
Try it, I think you'll like it........2006-06-11
I wasn't entirely sure that I would like this book. I picked it up on the strength of the authors name, and like every other Kinsale book I've read- it didn't dissapoint.
As a first work there are some minor pacing issues and a lot more torturing of the tortured hero than is typically accepted... but I give full props for characterization and plot. Even as I say this is not her best work- It is still stronger, by far, than the VAST majority of authors out there, and could easily be the crowning achievement of a lesser author. It is only in comparison to some of her later works, in particular Petals from the Storm (Which I highly recommend.), that this novel drops even one star.
It's not often that I read a scene in a book that grips me right in the heart and makes me absolutly understand a character that is so far removed from my own life. This book was peppered with them. Scenes that made me smile a little smile as I fell head over heals in love with the characters through thier own eyes, and capped with a scene in the end (with the parrot, you'll know which one when you read it) that moved me sufficiently to actually come here and sing the books praises.
Thier happily ever after is a long time coming, and the wait is fustrating... but it is all the more real and heartwrenching when it happens. It's not a light read, and shouldn't be read if you're looking for a lark of a story (Julia Quinn is great for books on a lark) curl up in a cozy chair for a few hours with a box of chocolates and let yourself get involved.
Highly recommended. If you think the plot is a bit out of your field of interest- give it 2 chapters in the bookstore- you'll be hooked.
Note to Tormented Hero: get counseling. .......2005-05-25
It's one thing to protect your feelings, Tormented Hero. But when you protect yourself by tormenting your lover, you're not a hero anymore. You're just a jerk.
A sexy one, though, and worth saving. But frankly, some of the "hero's" actions were so cruel I couldn't finsih reading those scenes. I don't mind a few tears and a touch of anguish, but the payoff had better be worth it and in this case, I thought our boy deserved to be made to grovel a bit before all was forgiven.
A likeable heroine and exotic settings including the Amazon and Tahiti set this book apart from most English historicals. There's a lot to enjoy, but keep in mind that the Sustained Anguish Quotient is a 9 out of a possible 10. (Only Julia Ross and Meagan McKinney have achieved Sustained Anguish Quotients of 10, for which the only known outpatient cure is a pint of Haagen Das Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream.
Gryphon Meridon and his champion..........2004-10-29
After the death of her father in the wilds of the Amazon, Lady Tess Collier is given over to the protection of Gryph Meridon. Gryph accompanies Tess to London where she is to find a suitable husband...Only, Tess decides that there is no other man for her but Gryph himself.
"The Hidden Heart" began with such promise, but it lost its way. I had a few problems with this book. First of all, I didnt like that the development of the friendship between the h/h was told to us, not shown. I felt like it made it harder to really care about them as a couple because we didnt get to see them interacting as they grew so fond of one another. My other major complaint with this book that definitely knocked off a star was the conflict. So much of this book revolved around the dreaded Big Misunderstanding. This sort of conflict drives me insane because I dont find it believable..I mean, if the love of your life accused you of something that in reality was just a miscommunication..well, wouldnt you SAY something instead of just mournfully standing there staring at them? On top of these flaws, there were also several periods of long separations between the main players. I really hate that. However, even with all of its weaknesses, "The Hidden Heart" was still a Kinsale..which can only mean that it was beautifully written with unbelievably well developed characters. All in all, I cant say this has made my keepers list, but it was still a good read and one that I am glad I didnt pass up.
great read.......2004-07-05
I couldn't put this book down. The characters were very well written and it had a very interesting story line.

Book Description
Fate, it seemed, had done its worst.
With his life in ruins, Richard Duke of Cleybourne, returned to his country estate to deal with the tragic loss he had suffered four years earlier. His plans, however, were interrupted by the arrival of Miss Jessica Maitland. The feisty, flame-haired governess had come to present her charge, Gabriella, as his new ward.
Until love exposed much more to the story.
As if their unwelcome presence weren't bad enough, Jessica also revealed that Gabriella was in danger. Someone was after the girl's fortune -- perhaps someone the duke knew only too well.
Now fate and a raging snowstorm have brought together an odd assortment of guests at Cleybourne Castle. And when murder strikes, Richard and Jessica must catch a killer and unravel a dark mystery, even as they are plunged into the most passionate mystery of all -- the secrets of the hidden heart.
Customer Reviews:
really good story, but...........2006-10-26
...it lacked in the execution. i was so excited to see their story, but i felt that it was missing something. the story had alot of promise, but i was disappointed. overall, though, the series was phenomonal, and all three are on my keeper shelf!
A Winning Read!.......2006-07-26
THE HIDDEN HEART is a wonderful sequel to SO WILD A HEART! I recommend you start with the first book then THE HIDDEN HEART and follow up with SECRETS OF THE HEART. All three books are easy to read regency romances with a flare of mystery. The stories are closely connected that it's best to start with the first in the series.
Not quite as good as the other two in the series!.......2005-03-15
Although I really really liked this book I have to grade it down a bit from the others. For me there were a few too many characters and it seemed the mystery plot dictated the romance rather than the romance being the central part of the story. In a way I suppose all of this confusuion and suspense is what Richard needed to get himself out of his selfimposed isolated world of the last 4 years - so he probably needed to be thrown into murder and mayhem but it just seemed at times that I personally wanted more from the love between him and Jessica. On the whole though when you read all of these books you are so taken with these people and love them all so much and want them all to have wonderful lives. I missed Devin and Miranda but you get reintroduced to them with Michael and Rachel's story!! All in all a great book in this Camp series of three.
Don't waste your time.......2004-12-31
I think it was pure masochism on my part that allowed me to finish this book. It started well enough. In fact I quite liked the hero. It was the heroine that got to me--I found her too shrewish and quarrelsome. I'm not even sure why the hero fell in love with her in the first place. I especially found the scene where she told the servants to put up Christmas decorations disturbing, inspite of the fact that Richard's wife and child died only four years ago around the holidays. It implied that it's been four years therefore he should get over his grief and celebrate Christmas. I thought it terribly presumptous and insensitive on her part especially since the death of one's child is involved.
Furthermore, throughout the book it was reinforced that Richard supposedly loved his wife but towards the end of the book, he reveals that his love for his wife had "cooled" towards the end of her life. I was a bit peturbed and found this "revelation" inconsistent with the hero's behavior throughout the novel.
This is my first novel with this author, and frankly I'm not sure if I am going to put myself through a second one.
4 & 1/2 stars--this one REALLY needs the 1/2 star.......2004-06-27
I was totally hooked with the prologue. Even though I discovered that this was the second in a series, I could not wait to read it.
Richard is a fabulous hero--very deep, emotional, and responsible, intelligent. His depression over his wife's & daughter's deaths leads him to contemplate suicide. But along comes brave, stalwart Jessica who, in her determination to protect Gabriella, is willing not only to battle his unwillingness to be the girls' ward, but also to bring him back from the brink of self-extinction. They are superb together.
Secondary characters run the gamut: Richard's sister-in-law Rachel (who stars in the next book), Jessica's ex-fiance, a Bow Street Runner, a mystery woman, and a murderous villain, among others. Several are not what they seem. The mystery is a bit convoluted, but nothing in it turned me off the book.

SECRET ADMIRER contains some of the sweetest stories I've read by three of today's best authors. With a single idea involving a letter sent into a local paper that ends up bringing three couples together in tales that are sure to leave you smiling. The characters are all a pleasure to read about, even Ol' Bill. I became enthralled in the dynamics of the small town. Everybody knows everybody else's business, I know how annoying that can get but I also know there's nothing else like the closeness you experience by living in a community like that. Each of these authors' wrote beautiful stories that are well worth reading many times over. Definitely a keeper!

When she sees the letter, she prays that Greg wroite it, but it will take a hostage situation to open up his eyes that his love for Annie is radically different than that of a sibling.

She wants children and is deciding to be a single mom though she runs a business. She knows Gareth back in Texas wants to reconcile and wonders if he placed the love letter in the local newspaper as part of baring his soul.
These are three fine interrelated novellas start off with a misconception involving the letter and takes off from there as somewhat comedic contemporary romances starring likable protagonists in which the woman knows what she wants.

Love, Red Rock, TX Style.......2005-04-08
3 wonderful novellas that take place in Red Rock TX the home of the Fortunes of TX fame. The town's Spring Fling, a big party, is soon and the local R.R.Gazette has published an anonymous love letter - everyone in town has an opinion of who the author is and whom it's for. Ann Majors SECRET KISSES features Jane Snow & Matt Harper, they have a history from back in high school, and are now vying for the same job at Fortunes TX Ltd. Jane's Mom convinces her the letter is from Matt at the same time she's telling Matt that Jane wrote it to him! With true TX style Ms Majors writes a fun novella. Christ Rimmer's HIDDEN HEARTS introdues us to Annie Grant, a teller at the Fortunes' Red Rock Commerce, and Greg Flynn, he is one of R.R. finest. Greg was Annie's older brother's best friend but Hank's been gone for 7 years now. Hank and Greg each restored an old motorcycle and Hank lost his life on one of their many rides. Greg feels he needs to be Annie's big brother but she wants more - she has loved him since she was 10 years old. An incident at the bank, due to that letter, has Annie determind to tell Greg of her love. Will Greg take Annie to the Spring Fling? Ms Rimmer has given us a great short story with wonderful characters. Karen Rose Smith's DREAM MARRIAGE gives us the Mannings - Gareth & Laura. He has been gone for 6 weeks for business and she's stayed at her mother's and now doesn't want to go home but does find herself pregnant, what will she do? She has become a caterer, is good at it and loves it, and now has the contract for Spring Fling. Great story of a couple trying to reunite. Will Gareth come to the Spring Fling? Very disappointing, no cure, .......2007-09-17
I know very well what inflammation is and how it adversely affects one's life. I've suffered with idiopathic inflammation for almost two years now. I've been tested for every disease, rheumatoid arthiritis, Lyme, erlichiosis, etc. The doctors cannot find the cause. I'm on Zyrtec 365 days a year to eliminate allergies. But even this does not lessen my joint inflammation at the young age of 43, thin, active and non-smoking.
I anxiously purchased this book to see what potential cures the author had to offer sufferers. None. Don't smoke, don't overeat, eliminition diets, exercise... all the usual stuff found in every health pamphlet. Nothing new here at all. I learned nothing my doctors hadn't already told me or I'd read online. It's a well-written book on an important subject. It just doesn't have answers as the title implies.
- book has missed a fundamental point.......2006-04-10
There is nothing new in this book and from an asthmatic point of view- it misses the most important aspect of reversing inflammation. There is very little mention about controlling hyperventilation or overbreathing. The first step would be to teach asthmatics the importance of nasal breathing so that the airways dont constrict in the first place. One method of which there are several excellent self books are is called the Buteyko method. Do a search on Amazon for Buteyko.
I can guarantee that this area will provide far reaching improvement to quality of life than this book. Other sites which provide a great account of are http://www.buteykointernational.com/ or http://www.buteyko.ie or http://www.asthmacare.ie/
Eat your way to better health!!!.......2006-03-19
This book, along with a few others, have allowed me to virtually eliminate any prior risks from osteoarthritis, asthma, age associated weight gain and depression. I also believe it will reduce any environmental risks of cancer...in my opinion.
Excellent Book for long term health.......2006-01-30
Dr. Meggs touches on many imortant health problems and solutions in his book. The overall read was pleasurable.
Inflammation, yes -- Cure, no.......2005-08-03
This is a clear and well-written discourse on what inflammation is, and the role it plays in a multitude of problems;it is convincing and sincere. It does not, however, offer much in the way of guidelines for how to address the problem, beyond offering some basic "good health" prinicples. In all fairness, there may be no clear "cure" for the condition -- but if so, the title is a tad misleading.

A Masonic Book For The Contemplative Mason!.......2007-06-15
This is a great book for the Analytical Masonic Student. Written in a rather technical stlye, it conveys the thought processes the author used to arrive at his conclusions and invites the reader to develop his own along similar or more challenging lines. Subjects include Masonic Travel, Symbolism, Masonic History, Religious Concepts, Biblical truth and lies, Early Church History, King Solomon's True Name, The nature and purpose of Solomon's Temple, etc... Very encompassing in subject matter and well researched, it is purposely written to challenge preconceived notions about Freemasonry held by Masons and Non-Masons alike. A very good read!

Book Description
"4 1/2 Stars. Pick of the Month. In this beautiful love story, two hearts seek God’s redemption, one sin-scarred, the other wounded and terrified of falling in love. Jane Orcutt’s name may be fairly new to readers, but her work is every bit as fantastic as veteran authors, and like cream, she’s certain to rise to the top.” --Romantic Times
Elizabeth Cameron
Seeking to leave her troubled past behind, nineteen-year-old Elizabeth Cameron decides to join a religious group in Belton, Texas. There she believes she and five-year-old Joseph, her Indian charge, will be hidden from a cruel world. But fear for Joseph’s safety keeps her from betraying the terrible secret that the child is more dear to her heart than she can ever claim.
Caleb Martin
A former gunfighter and robber, Caleb Martin reluctantly agrees to escort Elizabeth to Belton. He’ll do anything to receive a governor’s pardon, even if it means watching over the irritatingly prim young woman. After this final assignment, he’ll finally have what he wants most of all--his freedom. Yet along the way, he learns that there may be something else he needs even more.
Elizabeth and Caleb soon find their lives--and hearts--intertwined. But can their love break through their shields of self-protection and secrecy, to reach and heal The Hidden Heart?

Good, Clean, Entertaining.......2007-09-11
"The Hidden Heart" by Jane Orcutt is the sequel to "The Fugitive Heart". Although this reading experience would be greatly enhanced if the reader had traveled with the characters in Ms. Orcutt's previous novel, this book can be enjoyed very much on its own.
This is the continuing story of Caleb Martin, Samantha's brother, and Elizabeth Crawford, Noah's sister. Caleb has been working for Noah as a Deputy in the hope of securing a pardon for his crimes from the Governor. Now, he has agreed to escort Noah's sister to Belton and pose as a railroad employee in the town so he can watch over her. Elizabeth is heading to the new town with Joseph, a young half-Indian boy, after the death of her abusive father. She is going to Belton to join a women's liberation group, wanting nothing to do with men. Will Caleb and Elizabeth be able to ignore the feelings that are growing between them? Will they allow secrets from their pasts keep them apart?
This is a terrific Western novel sprinkled with suspense, romance and faith. The lively characters draw you in, the action and suspense keep you riveted. The relationship that develops between Caleb, Joseph and Elizabeth is heartwarming.

Heart Breaking...God Healing.......2000-09-12
The circumstances faced by the characters in this book are heart breaking. When the characters allow God to work, He turns ugly into beauty ... in His time. Can I be happy for the awful things that happen? No, but I can rejoice in my Savior. This book is a powerful, well written testimony to God's works.
The Hidden Heart.......2000-06-21
Mrs. Orcutt, is a really gifted writer. The story line for the Heart Series are a "can't wait to read what happens next". The stories are of true hardships and how individuals deal with different challenges presented to them. Mrs. Orcutt, dare I hope and pray for Elizabeth's brother to be next in this wonderful series.
A captivating story and a joy to read........1999-07-09
Jane Orcutt's gripping romance novel, The Hidden Heart, transports the reader back in time to early Texas, and by page two, that same reader is in the middle of a heart-stopping Indian raid. Not only did this historical romance have an exciting plot and memorable characters, it contains a strong, Christian message. Readers who like Christian romance novels will love The Hidden Heart.
