I am a water efficiency consultant. I am fascinated and amazed by the magical beauty of water. But I also recognize that there are many scientific principles that govern the behavior of water. That science does not detract from the beauty and mystery of water for me. I do not need to throw science out the window to appreciate that beauty but apparently many others do. I once watched a 2 hour slide show and talk by Mr. Emoto, hoping to ask questions. He refused to take any questions afterwards, even though I had plenty. Where are the side by side comparisons of the ice structure of the same water that did not have the word or picture influences? Until similar photos are created with a control group and with the involvement of neutral 3rd party scientists, I can not believe any of the claims. But I will always have a childlike amazement at the endless beauty and mystery of water.

But I thing it's time to open our minds for the new experiments. The scientists who desagree, they must propose new experiments to refuse.
It's time to people learn that our feelings and thoughts influence matter. All of the atoms and subparticles are vibrating all the time and our thoughts and emotions are vibration too. Hence, the waves are emitted by us influence the atoms and subparticles. So I can't understand the people refuse this kind of experiment without reflection!

Being a big collector of Tarot and other Oracles and Divination tools, and being a Wiccan who's ruled by the Element of Water, I was completely fascinated that the writer of "The Hidden Messages of Water" had an Oracle, and excited at all the potential it has. I thought this would be right up my alley. Well, it is right up my alley, but not in the way I had expected or previously hoped.
This deck actually serves as more of a medium for meditation, a tool for practicing Emoto's theory of changing water crystals by introducing words, phrases, or pictures, healing, or introspection. Some of the suggestions for how to use the deck as directed by the author include:
Choosing a card that has meaning as something you want in your life and meditating on it.
Focused meditation.
Placing the picture under a glass of water and drinking the water to take in the qualities of the card.
Harmonizing energy by placing the card under a glass of water.
And various other meditative or contemplative ideals. This is good, and very reminiscent of Japanese culture and beliefs, but discouraging if you want to use the deck for Divination. It is not impossible to use the deck for such a thing, however, but there are no directions on how to do it in the enclosed booklet, so any means you use would have to be created by you (a positive for some, a negative for others). Certainly beginners to Divination will be completely lost on how to turn this into a practical Divination tool, though the meditative aspect of the deck still holds true.
There is absolutely no denying that the pictures featured on the cards are breathtaking. They are engaging, enlightening, enthralling, and inspirational. There is no doubt that these cards make an excellent meditation tool. Looking at the pictures is just absolutely fascinating. This deck is worth owning for the pictures alone.
I will also say that if you have not read the book that covers Dr. Emoto's research and findings, the inspiration behind this research, and other useful information, you might feel as if this Oracle is not satisfying, and even a little confusing. Dr. Emoto's theories are covered only very briefly in the booklet that comes with the deck, so if you're approaching this for the first time through the deck without having read or been introduced to the book "The Hidden Messages in Water," you may be left wanting or confused.
I find this deck useful because being somebody who works closely with water, it's nice to be able to practice and explore Dr. Emoto's theories on my own, which wouldn't be possible otherwise. I think this "Oracle" is wonderful for meditation, healing, or as a means to bring you closer to the elements that surround and encompass all of us. I think that people who use it for meditation, relaxation, healing, spellwork, or just to have something beautiful to look at will love this deck, but people who approach the deck with the expectations of finding a Tarot-like Oracle will be disappointed. I can only give it 4 stars because of the misuse of the word Oracle (perhaps a translation error?) and because the information in the enclosed booklet is incomplete and somewhat poorly organized, especially if you do not own his "The Hidden Messages of Water" book (if I hadn't found the pictures as deeply moving and facinating as I did, I'd have given this 3 stars, but the pictures are just that fantastic). Despite this, I find the deck beautiful, engaging, and deeply inspirational

In the realm of energy medicine, it is believed that everything has a vibrational signature and those signatures either promote health or hamper it. Words and intentions have vibrational patterns whereas water is a medium that receives and understands even the subtlest of vibrations. With this assumption, Dr. Masaru Emoto has researched the effects of words on water crystals by capturing images via high-speed photography. His work, which was featured in the film What the Bleep Do We Know!? and in his book Messages in Water, shows how negative emotions prevent water from crystallizing while positive emotions allow it to develop in beautiful hexagonal shapes.
After receiving many requests from his readers to produce posters of the water crystals, Emoto had chosen to create a set of oracle cards featuring the photographs so that they could be used for practical purposes.
The Water Crystal Oracle is a 48-card deck that is divided into four sets of twelve cards with the themes of Healing, Wisdom, Power and Earth. One side of the card depicts a water crystal photograph while the other side features the theme of the card at top and a focus word in the middle. The 16-page booklet that accompanies the deck suggests several ways to use the cards including focused meditation, keeping a card under a glass of water for two hours and then drinking it, placing the Love and Gratitude card on your bath or shower wall to increase the hado (vibration) of the water, and for global prayer with the intentions of "I love you" and "Thank you" projected into the connected water of the Earth.
Through Emoto's work, he realized the relationship between emotions and the organs in the body, concluding that vibrational disturbances negatively affect the body. However, the body's intrinsic vibration of health can be restored by giving a new external vibrational to cancel out the disturbance. Emoto than began to work with musician Alan Roubik to create music to balance the body. Thus, the Cards of Healing feature photographs of crystals taken after playing ten different melodies. Emoto discusses listening to the music while visualizing positive emotion and even lists the songs, but considering there is no CD that comes with the Water Crystal Oracle, this information seems out of place. There is no advice for the Healing Cards except for listing a positive emotion with which to work with and the negative counterpart to be released. Two examples are Pancreatic Hado (Sympathy/Self Pity) and Blood Circulation Hado (Bonding/Stress of Human Relations).
The Cards of Power can be used to amplify or to honor something in your life. Some of the cards in the Power group include Prosperity, Hope, Prayer, Honesty, and Eternity. However, there are no oracular meanings given for any of these cards.
The Cards of Wisdom and the Cards of Earth are really the only two groups that can be considered oracular. For example, the wisdom of the Happiness card says "What can we do to increase happiness in the world? Love ourselves!" The Harmony card conveys "There was once a spiritual awareness that attempted to raise the people's consciousness to pray for harmony in all things. Harmony is the greatest of virtues." In contrast, the Earth Cards feature all four seasons as well as Sun, Earth, Dolphin, Stonehenge, Rainforest, Coral Reef, and so on. The advice of the Dolphin card says "Dolphins are our teachers of unconditional love. Focus on them when you need to connect with this energy. Picture yourself surrounded by them in the ocean as you swim together surrounded by their bubbles of joy."
The Dolphin is the only animal included in the Earth cards. As an aside, I find it a bit amusing (well, maybe disturbing is a better word) that New Age folks elevate dolphins to mystical status, especially when these creatures are known for the calculated gang rape of female dolphins. They even have a secondary gang as back up-not to help the female, but to corner her to be raped.
In my opinion, the Water Crystal Oracle deck is misnamed as are many nowadays. It functions more as a meditative and contemplative deck more than anything. If you're really into Emoto's work with water crystals or just want a deck for contemplating the effects of thought and intention on water, our bodies, and the world, then you'll likely enjoy this deck. The cards would also be useful for "charging" water with specific healing intentions. However, if you're new to Emoto's work or want an oracle with substance, then you'd likely be disappointed with this deck.

This is a fine follow up on Melody's other books. I did find that the pictures left a little to be desired, but still there were pictures which do not feature in her original book (a pity I thought). Again I feel that if you are interested in Crystals then you can learn from this book as well. I would recommend that you add this book to your collection I have.
Mineral Pictures and Mineral Nonsense.......2006-03-31
This book and the similar one, supplement A, have additional mineral photographs and discussions of the minerals that were not in her earlier, larger book with a similar title (Mineralogical Pictorial). The photographs in these two supplements are of lower quality than in her main book but are still useful, along with brief descriptions of the mnerals. There is far more text describing the Nonsense attributes of minerals. For example, "Friedelite has been used to assist in the study of the French language (to expedite studying and comprehension of details) and in managing situations with the French populace when one does not speak the same language (to increase knowledge associated with aesthetics)." It is not clear to me how close to the mineral you have to be to get the best French learning effect. Do you eat the stuff? If the mineral effect is good for several hundred yards distance then it might be useful in schools. Also, "In addition, it has been used by many soccer players to advance agility, gain, and acumen during the game, It tends to act as guidance in instinctual actions, providing 'the edge'." "Vibrates to the number 3." ????? There are plenty of medical uses claimed but there are NO references to actual uses. For example, "The mineral [Fossil Algae] has been used to transmute of disordered energy into healing energy. It has been used in the treatment of infection, scleroderma, and high cholesterol, to assist in spinal alignment and assimilation of iron and Vitamin A, and in the elimination of toxicity from the body." Consider buying the book only for the mineral pictures. If you buy only one in the series buy the "Love Is in the Earth-Mineralogical Pictorial. Howard McPherson

A must for all healers, enthusiasts and anyone with an interest. Really informative and covers just about everything you'll ever need to know. I refer to this book all the time, if you have an interest in healing then you MUST have this book.
OOPS -- **NOT** "really" the "PICTORIAL SUPPLEMENT".......2002-02-06
I ordered this book thinking it was the "pictorial supplement" to Melody's challenging (read: "pictureless") five-star original sensitive-gal **Love is in the Earth** encyclopedic guide. This is a thin book of leftovers on glossy paper with one small and really lame picture on each two page spread. NOT WHAT I HAD IN MIND. In truth I wanted the much larger, similarly named: **Love Is in the Earth - Mineralogical Pictorial : Treasures of the Earth.** Gee -- is it me? That's minus one for stupid title breeding, -1 for using a scanner to take pictures of the rocks, and -1 for for not coming out with a new edition of **Love Is in the Earth: A Kaleidoscope of Crystals,** instead.

This is my third book from Friends of ED (Apress). I also own Flash MX Most Wanted and Photoshop 7 Professional Photographic Techniques. Each friendsof Ed book is packed with useful, easy to understand information and links to download support files. All their books are well organized with easy to follow steps and plenty of screenshots/illustrations.
The book takes you through the steps of building and publishing a complete web site. From initial planning to uploading and updating the completed site.
The first chapter gives you tips on how to plan for your site, such as deciding who your target audience will be and layout/navigation of the site. You'll then start to build a site using Photoshop and Imageready. Some of the things you'll do is create a textured background with some filtered effects like motion blur. You then start blocking out the main areas of your site. They also show you how to use layer styles and custom shapes to enhance your website.
One of the most important steps when building a web site is slicing and optimizing your site. Photoshop to Dreamweaver does an excellent job explaining and demonstrating how to slice your page properly. They go into great detail to make sure the reader understands how and why optimizing your images is important.
The chapter(s) on Dreamweaver was awesome. They do a great job at taking a novice designer and explaining how to define your site. The screenshots of different palettes in Dreamweaver was very helpful too. I especially liked the fact they dedicated several pages to CSS.
To finish out the book, friendsof Ed leave you with some useful advanced tips for both Photoshop and Dreamweaver.
I would have liked to seen some different looks/situations when slicing the site and a chapter for troubleshooting when things don't quite go as planned. Overall the book is very good. I really like how you have the exercise files so you can work along with each chapter. I give the book a strong 4 out of 5 stars and suggest anyone who isn't quite sure of how to tie the two programs together; Photoshop to Dreamweaver is for you. Even those who have used the two programs would find this book helpful. It's well worth the time to read this book.

A good book to begin...but could close better.......2004-04-10
This book is a great book. It will show you how to use Photoshop to create your design and how to ultimately bring it into Dreamweaver. However, there is a reason I didn't give the book 5 stars.
First of all, I think the book presumes that you are more than just a novice in Photoshop. So if you know nothing about PS, then you could get frustrated. Also, as another reviewer mentioned, the book is not designed with creativity in mind. That is, I don't think anyone would create a masterpiece using this book. What I did was use a Photoshop template already designed and started from there. The book eventually tells you how to create slices and import them to Dreamweaver.
As for Dreamweaver, it will tell you how to set things up in DW after you've sliced things up in PS. Again, its pretty much basic stuff. Although if you don't know much about DW, the book does a good job in pointing the reader in the right direction. However, again, I think the books lacks a bit of creativity because it doesn't tell you how to do a lot once you've got it in DW. I'm proficient in DW and so was able to do what I wanted to do. That is, add forms, hotspots, etc. However, for the person that doesn't know much HTML or no HTML at all, they will probably be left with the empty feeling that they haven't accomplished much because you may be wondering what to do next once you've got your slices in DW.
Overall, its a good book. I think I know a lot more about PS than I did before reading this book.
learn by doing? I think not........2003-10-03
Yes, I did learn how to use Photoshop, Image Ready, and Dreamweaver in about a week. So the book must be O.K. However, I found it to creatively uninspiring and utterly lacking in basic make-up. Often there were there sections devoid of real instructions on how to get things done. I would say that if you want to learn the meat and potatoes of making web sites, you will be out of luck on this one. And please, "Footprint Design"? that is ridiculously lame.

I thought the book could be done a little better. If I wasn't familiar w/ Photoshop 7, then I would have been lost on several occasions while following the examples in the book.

Reading through the list of harmful products gives you an idea of the ingredients to avoid in cleaners and how they can affect your health. For an antibacterial spray, the author suggests water and essential oils and for cleaning silver she also suggests more natural solutions like baking soda and vinegar. Using Borax and water is less dangerous than chlorine bleach fumes and you may want to try this in your shower. You may enjoy products by Seventh Generation.
Chapter three felt a little out of my personal range of expertise, although we know that thoughts can affect our environment and life and can move our life in a positive or negative direction. This chapter deals more with spiritual practices. Chapter 6 also delves into a deeper connection with nature, personality types and elemental powers. The list of Yin and Yang is helpful to create a balance of the two in your home. An entire chapter is also dedicated to plants, gemstones and crystals.

Chapter four is especially informative and essential if you are trying to be healthier and want to find organic alternatives to products filled with synthetic chemicals. Why should you avoid petroleum and talc? Why is there lead in hair dye?
The section on an Eco-Friendly Kitchen is interesting and the chapter on natural and organic foods also gives ideas on how to save time in the kitchen. A few recipes are included:

The goal of this book is to create positive energy both in your home and your life and to be kinder to the earth. Hertie is a design consultant, chef, gardener, and healer. She shares her professional and personal experiences with the readers, i.e., homemade earth-friendly cleaning products, tasty recipes for carnivores and vegetarians, etc. She recommends that after reading this book, you apply the process in the following order:
1. Remove toxic products from your home and garage
2. Clean, declutter, clear and organize your home
3. Buy/use environmentally friendly products
4. Learn how to use place objects (furniture, mirrors, etc.) to manifest change in your life
The relationship between people and the Earth is an important part of Harmonious Environments. To remind ourselves of this interconnection, Hertie recommends bringing the natural world into your home. Some ways to do this include displaying rocks and minerals and using houseplants as pollution busters.
Hertie uses Harmonious Adjustments (TM) that combines "the best principles of Feng Shui, the application of the Four Elements based on your birth date, color, Vastu, energy work and good design." I've read a few Feng Shui books in the past, but the author's clear instructions and enthusiasm has given me the confidence to actually try this at home.
I liked how the author reminded me to use this book as a guideline but to also trust my intuition. Do what looks and feels right for you. I also liked how the Resource section listed all the suppliers, organizations and further readings mentioned throughout the book.
Even if you aren't interested in Feng Shui, this book has valuable information about becoming an informed consumer and living a more eco-friendly life.

Fantastic book with tons of information.......2007-01-18
I got this wonderful book as we are moving our place of business, and wanted to make smart choices. From the first page, Ms. Lehmeier-Hartie shares her expertise in an organized, thoughtful way. The day after I got the book, I negotiated a much more logical and healthier ventilation system, and the section on colors was far and away the most organized and logical explanation I have ever seen.
Some aspects of our project are beyond our control, but I became a much more active participant. We anxiously await our new space, and know that the suggestions made here will add to the beauty and functionality of our space. I wish I could have rated this 10 stars!

A simple and elegantly written book. The author often writes from the crystal's perspective! I shall read it several times more for sure. This is my favorite book on the subject. Mr. Bourgault knows the healing arts. Forget the scientific mumbo-jumbo and color photos for a moment from other books. Mr. Bourgault understands crystal healing from a Mother Earth point of view and speaks to the reader spiritually. For example, to paraphrase one bit of his advice: one must heal the crystal which is oneself before you can ever expect to treat someone else. Spirituality is so very important yet largely ignored by other crystal books. Read Luc Bourgault's words and they will resonate in your heart. You just know what he is saying is right. He has done us all a favor by leaving his foot prints for us to follow.

A diverse view on a very broad topic.......2006-07-27
This book is very down-to-earth and approachable by those who are newcomers, although the author is touting a sense of authority and authenticity over all else, although some very good information is presented here.
Much of the geological/mineralogical information accompanying the descriptions of the crystals contained herein is less than accurate, and this does produce bias on my behalf. The author has studied under notable elders, and the healing information presented is practical and efficient, but thos book offers little as far as in-depth or advanced studies go.
Much of the information is over simplistic and can be monotonous, and Bourgault is very wary of all things "New Age" and, hence, bashes the credibility of the entire lot of them, despite the fact that the majority are not so untrustworthy (even if redundant). Some key exercises in this book are excellent for any crystal healer, and anyone interested in Native American spirituality may find this book to lend a window into cultural and spiritual aspects of working with crystals.
A different perspective on gemstone healing.......2006-07-14
I'm still not sure what I think of this book.
Some of the information found within this book seems pretty far off from other information that I have read (from numerous sources) about healing and working with gemstones.
The author suggests that using more than one stone on a chakra can be dangerous. Likewise sitting within a stone grid. Some of the listed methods for cleaning your stones are different than I have heard before.
My take on the subject is this: Don't do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable, and do what makes you happy. I've never been one for strict ritual and I feel that I have great success working with stones in whatever way suits me. Sometimes I use running tap water to clean my stones, sometimes breath, incense or sage, sometimes salt. The stones tell me what they need. Perhaps certain rituals are developed for people to help develop their intuitive powers or to feel more connected.
There was a section in the book that discussed the use of red cloth as a protective barrier for your stones. To quote: "if you are carrying some crystals that are, from an energy point of view, fragile (for some ceremonial or personal use), you must protect them from the energy from other people. It is therefor important to keep your crystals wrapped in red fabric and protected from outside forces." I found this quite interesting, and had a woman make me several red flannel cloth bags. I felt an immediate difference once I switched over to the red cloth bag for carrying my "every day" stones in my purse.
There's good information in this book - I suggest reading it, digesting what you need & recycling what doesn't.

In this book you not only find out how to cleanse, program and use crystals, the author has an excellent point of view. Even if you don't use the gemstones for healing his philosophy is something we can all live by. A most "enlightening" read.

BOOK REVIEW: The very first thing I always look for when a book contains a CD is the contents of that CD. If it has a trial version of the software the book is about, it is one I would think of buying. Fundamental Web Design and Development Skills has such a CD and it contains Macromedia's Dreamweaver MX, Flash MX and Fireworks MX. Anyone buying this book is off to a flying start with these programs available to them
Next I check out the Contents section. Fundamental Web Design has 16 Chapters and the titles of the Chapters make real sense. A reader would know where to look for a specific item. Then I look at the Index which, of course, is another version of the Contents but gives a more in-depth listing. There are 28 pages of information located here. Between the Contents and the Index, no reader should have to wonder where to go to find the information he/she wants.
In reading the book, the chapters give a good explanation of what the chapter is about. It doesn't skimp on explaining what HTML or XHTML is but it also doesn't go overboard to the point of boring a reader or giving extraneous information. The chapters contain visual examples of what is being discussed and each chapter ends in a summary of that chapter.
This is a book I wish I had known about when I was beginning to learn Web Designing. I would have been able to "test-drive" the software and would have bought these programs to begin with rather than going through different software first. The CD also contains all the files needed to work through what the chapters are teaching and as it says on the CD, there is "an extensive list of links to provide you with further reading and material to compliment the wealth of knowledge already contained within this book......."arranged into categories for easy reference.
I would highly recommend Fundamental Web Design and Development Skills to anyone even if you already have some knowledge of web design. Why the writing in this book so understandable may be due to the fact that two of the three authors of this book are women and the only man has interests in art and literature, is a cat lover and has worked with a baby in his lap.

Glasshaus has a new book for anyone looking to get involved in web development, and learn the best ways to go about things from the outset. In this book we see an admirable dedication to sticking to the modern standards of XHTML 1.0, HTML 4.01 and CSS; with little space wasted on discussing the common methods that forward-looking web designers are trying to distance themselves from.
While this book is very much targeted at the beginner just starting to make their way in the field, it would serve equally well as a guide to the modern way of doing things for any developer still mired in the un-compliant techniques and inaccessible practices of the past. Careful attention is paid to explaining fully the relationship between HTML, XHTML and XML, and the future-compatibility ramifications of your choice of markup. The only time deprecated elements (like the
tag) are ever mentioned are necessary notes for those coders who are tasked with redesigning existing sites authored in old-style markup.
Covering a wide range of topics, all extremely relevant to anyone in the business of making quality websites, this book should help any reader to feel confident in their awareness of the current state of play. The first few chapters introduce the fundamental concepts of markup languages and hypertext, before diving straight in to page and graphic design. Designing page layouts using tables is advised against, and the superior CSS positioning options are championed. Subjects usually left out of introductory texts - like accessibility and site administration - are here examined and explained without ever being simplistic (or stunting the reader's understanding with overly-technical information). In fact, the book carries a very strong commitment to usability and accessibility, and includes many practical implementation tips. A complete introduction to JavaScript is also included.
While a complete discourse on each subject area are naturally beyond the scope of the book, adequate exposition is given for each topic, which will provide ample foundation for further learning. This book is an excellent starting point that will quickly set interested readers on the right track.

Exercise the Mind and Refresher for the Spirit.......2007-06-21
The premise of the book is: We are water. He shares a few more pictures of water crystals and some stories of his life and his perspective on them. He shares his thoughts based on all his experience with water and Hado. He talks about resonance and vibration and offers a plausible story of how we came to be in the universe and the source of water. He also discusses the power of prayer and spoken words are energetically transmitted through the ethers. It begs the question that if the spoken word has such power then how much are we affecting one another and the planet as a whole with our negative speech?
I commend Emoto for sharing his thoughts and stories. It evokes us to realize the obvious that is easily overlooked.
