This book gives you a good deal of information on the "infatuation" phase that I think many of us go through in meeting someone. I know that I have gone through it, and it helps in understanding where things go from there or why they end.

This book is full of good old common sense views on life and living with another especially in the context of having made a comitment to another. if your interested in the real basics behind maintaining and enjoying a comited relationship with another person, this is a great starting place.
A Life-Changing Read.......2006-12-03
My marriage counselor recommended this book but I had already made up my mind that divorce was imminent. Then the book came in the mail and I read it in one day. It was like Dr. Love wrote about my relationship! It forced me to look in the mirror and realize that if I made changes, instead of expecting only my spouse to change, my marriage might be salvaged. It is an extremely easy and quick read, written using simple language. I cried tears of joy after realizing that hope was not at all lost. The exercises provoked thoughtful discussions with my spouse and we are both now committed to trying many of Dr. Love's suggestions. True love goes through many transitions and you must be able to adapt to the different stages (which takes work!) Buy the book - it shows you how to recognize when changes are needed and how to make them.

Both my husband and I can honestly say that the information went a long way in saving a perfectly good marriage - we just didn't know that we had one. Very insightful.......2005-06-04
In response to other reviewers, yes, this book does rely heavily on stereotypes of male and female behavior. If you find you don't fit the stereotypes (and of course not everyone does!), then you'll need to look for another book. But for many (most?) of us, the insights and advice in this book will be very helpful. As I read, I was constantly amazed by how much I could see myself and my husband in John Gray's descriptions. Last night I had my first opportunity to try out his techniques on how to prepare a man to listen...and it worked beautifully! A situation that would certainly have escalated into a hurtful argument was diffused into a calm, brief conversation that left both of us feeling warm and loving toward each other.

Mars and Venus Together Forever is one of the most ridiculous, stupid books that I have ever had the gross misfortune to read. I probably should have expected what I got, considering that Mars and Venus on a Date left me cold, but I read this one anyway because the original Mars and Venus book had SOME interesting insights and I'm a sucker for a cheap book.
Anyone who buys into the stereotypes promoted by John Gray must be barmy. He exaggerates, overemphasises and blusters his way through the 200+ pages - probably with the best motives in his mind - but in the end the stuff he writes is uninspiring and insipid. According to him men and women are still ruled by `ancient' traditions which dictate that women are all do-gooder types who only desire to stay at home, chatting with other women and looking at flowers whilst men are all aggressive cavemen, grunting their way through their lives with zero finesse, a beer in one hand and the TV remote in the other.
I don't see how anyone, man or woman, could read this book without being annoyed. For women, the book is terribly unempowering. If you don't fit in with any of Gray's ideas about what a woman should be then you are labelled as masculine. I don't want to read a book which tells me that when I am at work I am moving towards my masculine side because being goal-oriented, competitive and efficient are male traits. It's all phooey! For men, the book is also offensive. John Gray says that men shouldn't express their feelings because it will cause a woman to lose her attraction for him. No, I don't believe that men and women are the same in all respects - there are gender differences - but in Mars and Venus these are distorted.
Overall this book is not worth your time. Underneath the waffle there may be some good points, but all of these are outweighed by the stereotypes.

Having authored my own book on meeting and succeeding with women, "From the First Date to the Bedroom, the Single Man's Official Guide to Success with Women," I can fully appreciate John Gray's work.
Whereas my book is a light-hearted approach to dating and mating from the male perspective, I will tell you that John does a womderful job in this more serious work. It is definitely worth the time to read.

This information is excellent in helping couples understand that things we say can be taken one way by our partner when we really mean something else. I think it will help a lot of people out there who unintentionally may be hurting a relationship while trying to communicate.

This was a good series from Janette Oke. It isn't one of her best, but I still really enjoyed reading it. I would recommend it to anyone who is already a Janette Oke fan. For new readers I would suggest starting with her other series such as Love Comes Softly or the Canadian West series.
One of my favorites growing up........2005-12-01
Originally my mom introduced me to this series because she thought I would enjoy it because it was from a guys perspective. Well she was right. I cant even count how many times I read through each of the books. I could always imagine being right there with him as he told his story. Eventually I was given this book collecting all four novels and again read through it over and over again. This being the only Janette Oke series I have read I cant really base it off of the other ones. But for me it was a great way to spend a rainy day or just any other time I felt like picking up a book.

Personally, I don't care for the way Janette Oke used the first-person style of writing, with a man as her main character. Her man just doesn't seem like a real man, mainly because he acts and thinks along the same lines as Janette's women do in her other books. Overall, it was a mistake for her to use a guy to tell the story- I think the books would have been vastly better if Janette had used a girl's perspective.
Aside from that complaint-
This story begins with the childhood of the "narrator", and goes through the boy's growing-up years on the farm. Everything is peaceful and happy. Little incidents occur here and there- his grandfather comes to live with them, he gets his first dog, etc. Finally, he becomes a man. One night he overhears the men downstairs discussing the fact that he needs to get married. He decides that yes, he should get married, so bang! he goes out and does it. Then the books tell about his married life (I liked his wife, by the way.) During his married life they go through the Depression and he winds up on a road crew far from home. All of a sudden, at the very end, everything is resolved and he gets to go home.
Generally this story is pretty good, but I've read many books by Janette Oke that are much better. Like I said, I think what messed up this series was trying to use the guy's perspective. It just isn't quite right.

I am an avid fan of Janette Oke, and have read every thing she has published. This is indeed a wonderful series, with descriptive scenes and true romance. If you haven't tried this one--give it a chance-it is a beautiful story.

I sat next to Mr. Nicholas Boothman on an airliner while on vacation this summer. We talked about many things and he gave me his card. I came here and bought this book. After reading it and walking it out in my life, I am enraptured by the various kinds of positive responses that we have. I say "we" because it's all about the other person's enjoyment of me, and my enjoyment of them! Romantic or not, my choice in the proposition. I lose my self-conciousness as we become one. I am now using Nicholas' "Science of Love" as I call it here, to find the most beautiful woman in the world, to be my "Matched Opposite"! Release your fear to find LOVE. To sum this up, I say, BUY THE BOOK NOW, READ IT, and DO IT! (;D)

This book is okay and does serve a purpose.This is a book to give you some guidelines on dating for men and women.Its all commen sense here.Nothing here that hasnt been printed in other dating type books.Has some ideas.
The author doesnt stay focused for long.He must have remembered things as he was writing.Its a distraction.

After reading this book my eyes were opened to what has been in front of me all along. This book just put everything into words so that it didn't seem so confusing. Wonderful scenarios, examples and awesome information.

Surely this book has taken niche marketing too far. I know that in the modern age companies have realised that limited sales to smaller markets can still be a cost-effective way of selling; a book (or any other product) doesn't always have to be a mega-seller to make it worthwhile from the seller's point of view. With the publication of this book, though, I think the publishers must realise they've hit the wall. Making a great first impression is all very well, but how many people with 90 minutes or less to live are going to care about building a lasting relationship?

By my 40th birthday I had met the man of my dreams and was sporting a beautiful 2 carat diamond engagement ring! I used the tools in this book to find my best friend, soul mate, partner. Real Love saved my husband's life.......2006-09-30
I discovered Real Love about a year ago, and after reading Real Love, The Truth about Finding Unconditional Love and Fulfilling Relationships, I immediately ordered the marriage book and parenting book. After 15 years of marriage, and dealing with the beginnings of the teen-age years with our children, I was searching for something better. I'd already been through many of the parenting and relationship books (and programs), with some success, but when I started reading the Real Love books, I knew I'd found something different. I was incredibly intrigued by the idea that I could ELIMINATE anger from my life, and conflict from my marriage.
Fast forward to today, and while I haven't totally eliminated anger from my life, I feel transformed into a happy and more peaceful person. I realize now that I didn't even really know what happiness was before. My relationships with my children and my husband are much more joyful, genuine, and just... easier. And, during a recent medical crisis, this new way of being helped me through the stress and turmoil, made it possible for me to effectively communicate with the doctors, and enabled me to make better decisions - all of which helped save my husband's life.
Maybe that seems kind of extreme, and I sure don't want to minimize the personal effort I put into practicing these principles, but I truly believe without the knowledge of Real Love, the past few months would have happened very differently, and it's likely my husband wouldn't have survived.
The principles of Real Love are not really new principles, but are simple time-honored truths. So, I'd already come across similar ideas in other books (The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Families, The Road Less Traveled, and Love and Logic), but this was the first time I'd seen practical suggestions on how to eliminate anger (not just manage or control it). I always prided myself on my personal integrity and character in dealing with other people. I would sometimes get angry and yell, but "only" at my husband or children, so most people saw me as a kind, helpful, responsible and cheerful person. I didn't even realize it until things started to change, but I really wasn't even happy before. I spent most of my time doing things to earn other people's love and approval. I guess I was fooled into thinking my husband and I had a good relationship because everyone else seemed to think we did. In truth, we were just living in the same house, sort of "tolerating" each other. We had learned to get along and make do with being cordial and considerate of each other's needs. We each had our own life, work, friends, and passions, and they didn't often meet. More often than not, when our lives met, it would be over a difference, with both of us needing to be "right," and resulting in anger, yelling, accusations, or at least disappointment and hurt.
Real Love in Marriage helped me see how I was being dishonest in my relationship with my husband, and how I was "running" from him. I wasn't really intimate with him (sharing my hopes, dreams, and passions), because I was afraid he wouldn't accept (love) me. So, I really felt very alone and unloved. Initially, I had visions that my husband and I would read the marriage book together, and we'd sail through our children's teen years without any disasters, and dance our way into our golden years together. I was terribly disappointed when my husband discounted Real Love as "yet another idea (obviously a stupid one)" of mine that I wanted him to buy in on.
But with the practical steps and examples in the book, I was able to take responsibility for my unhappiness, and see that much of my dissatisfaction with my husband was really just because I didn't feel loved, and that I had come to our marriage not feeling loved (it wasn't his fault!) I was trying to control him and prove myself right...I was being very selfish and not really concerned about his happiness! I attended some groups, and practiced sharing my truth with others who could accept me, even with my selfishness and imperfections. It was truly a transforming process. As I felt more loved by others, I was able to see my husband more clearly. I saw that he wasn't trying to be critical and unloving toward me, but that he was just "drowning" - Greg Baer's way of describing how people act when they don't feel loved.
Real Love in Marriage logically dispels the myth that our partners are responsible for making us happy. In addition to the exercises in each chapter, the book is filled with memorable quotes in Greg Baer's Real Love vernacular that were really helpful to me in learning to be more loving. Now, I "tell my truth" so that I stay "filled up". And when I start to get irritated, it's a sign to me that I'm getting "empty and afraid" and just need to "be seen and heard" by a "wise man or woman." When my husband is angry and attacking, I "just add water" and realize that he's just "drowning." With this awareness, I am able to love and accept him, which is just what he really needs. Before, I used to take everything personally, and I would get angry and attack back. Now that I feel more loved, I realize that all of us are pretty empty and afraid, and I stay "filled up" by being more loving and accepting of others.
Recently, our family has been through an incredibly stressful time. During a "simple" back surgery to repair a herniated disk, my husband's disk was infected by a serious bacteria. Due to complications from the multiple surgeries and drugs, he ended up in critical care with major organ systems shutting down, and totally delirious on pain medications. Five different doctors were treating him, and they couldn't understand what was happening. I was operating on practically no sleep, little food, with my husband's life on the line. I know that my knowledge and practice of Real Love made a tremendous difference in my efforts to get the doctors to work together so that better decisions could be made about his treatment.
As my husband's recovery continues, so does my work with Real Love. Real Love has turned what might have been a loss of life and a huge tragedy for our family, into an opportunity for all of us to become happier and find more love and joy in our lives together.

Love Lasts Forever was an enjoyable read.......2007-06-22
I didn't expect to find myself enjoying it quite so much since one it was partially set 1800's my ancestors were still in slavery, and I've always had a hard time dealing with that paricular era of American history. With that said it was a very romantic read. Thor was a wonderful hero, who finds out that life isn't over when you get knocked down, and his visit to his families past opens his eyes and his heart. Willow was warm and loving and courageous, and I love seeing heroines written that way. Escapism yes as all romance novels should be with angst and misunderstanding and deep love found by two well deserving people who both fought for justice in a time when one risked life and limb but realizing both that the rights of human beings are worth fighting for and if you find love along the way with a little help from a timepiece filled with magic well it's a good book to curl up with and enjoy. Definitely well edited and well recieved by me. I'd definitely buy another of Ms. Douglas' books can't wait till she graces us again with her talent.

I liked this book. Thor was a well crafted character and Willow was very likeable. The end dragged on a bit but the book was still a delightful read. We definately need more IR SCIFI books out there. This was a great addition to the bunch.

As far as IR romances go, this is one of the best ones I have read in a very long time. The characters were very believable. Although the book was reminiscent of Octavia Butler's Kindred, it more than held it's own. I can't wait to read her next novel.

Great story! Ms. Douglas truly has a gem here. I've read quite a few books by this publisher, but most have been awful. This is one of the best IR stories I've read. Throw in time travel, and it's Octavia Butler's 'Kindred' with a romance twist. The stories are different, but I liken them to each other b/c of the time travel.
At first, I was confused/skeptical because while in Kindred, it was obvious that the characters were switching worlds, this book appeared to have been done as a dream. That was my only point of confusion. Other than that....EXCELLENT!

This book is definitely a keeper. It was engaging from start to finish. It was very well written and edited so was an easy read
(unlike some novels in this genre I could name).
This novel did many things right. Firstly it got the romance aspect correct between the main characters Thor and Willow. One could relate to the characters and believe that they fell in love. Also the chemistry between the two was hot. Next it skillfully wove the element of time travel. Thor travels back in time and meets Willow whom he falls in love with. Lastly the historical aspect of coming from a modern world and going back to days of slavery was treated in a credible manner. It was also interesting how one might react meeting their forebearers. Combining all the various elements together has produced a great romantic read.

Miss the days when Suge's mere pressence would put the Ether on Busters. there are alot of Sponge Bob,Corny Pickle Leaf Turkeys out here who could use a good reminder of Suge Knight. Suge Knight ran a tight ship&had hits when Death Row was going strong. His acts didn't have to be on Rap City all Ashy&desperate to be remembered. Suge Knight kept it real when he was rolling. Suge Knight ran Product never had to be pushed on VH1 Soul, what Death row put out spoke for itself.Suge left Busters hanging over the Balcony, we sure could use that Suge vibe now again.

Is more like a collection of articles on various topics on Suge ( i.e, his incarceration , relationship with 2pac , etc... ) hastily compiled into a book. rather than a 'flowing' autobiography. As well, it's pretty annoying when the author repeats a lot of stuff every few pages. Also , there is too little solid info of the guy ( e.g. too few interviews from people in Death Row or those connected with him. ) Hence, can't really get a solid picture of what the man is really like. Overall, is more like an academic ' analysis ' of Suge Knight based on few, random bits and pieces of information, rather than a solid ' story ' of the guy.

As a woman in my mid 20's, I still find it very hard to keep a relationship and find the right man for me. When I heard that this book was coming out, I jumped at the chance to buy it hoping it was the perfect solution to my problems....and it was exactly that. The chatty tone of the book makes it fun and easy to read yet very informative. This book proves to be a great tool in assisting my search behind the cover of my lover and determining if he is Mr. Right or Mr. Wrong. I highly reccomend this book for any woman pondering marraige or starting a new relationship. This book's 5 stars are well deserved!

As a psychiatrist and psychotherapist who has worked extensively with relationships, I'm always on the lookout for good self-help books to recommend to my clients. This is one of the better books I've come across. Addressed to women of all ages, it offers a tested, reliable method for sizing up the strengths and weaknesses in their current relationship with their partner, early on. It provides guidelines to keep them out of bad relationships, and helps steer clear of allowing passion-filled, idealized fantasies to take over. Properly used, it may save life and sanity. After absorbing and using the lessons of this book, a woman need never settle for a man who is abusive or habitually inconsiderate. She will have a much better chance of finding someone who "clicks". In a readable and down-to-earth style, free of theories and psychobabble, the authors guide the reader in getting to know who her partner really is "deep down". They show how a woman can become adept at fostering a healthy, fulfilling relationship, and point up the risks of premature commitments. Questionnaires and checklists organize the material. Communication patterns, past relationships, negotiating, problem solving, and sexuality all receive attention. Short case vignettes from the authors' practice highlight the main points.
