Simple, Great Examples.......2005-08-18
The books is organized into small chapters with great example resumes and a list of key words. It allow you to improve you IT resume in a short amount of time and even have suggestion on where to start if you are new to IT.
The Best, don't look further.......2005-01-11
I read this book so fast, the way it was written was so interesting and easy, evey single question I had in mind was answered, nothing is left! I loved the book, unfortunately I cannot get the Ace the IT INTERVIEW book, because it is not available in my area, but I would definetly the interview book too! by the way there is a very good chapter about interview in this book!
four little things i hated about this book:
- much more of network than software development ! but it is ok coz most careers are in Network administration.
- in a resume there was: Modem Software!!, this is called Browser...!
- adding Norton AntiVirus in an IT resume is something stupid!
- PHP and C-Sharp: top programming lanuges not mentioned in the book!
In the market for an IT job? Get this book!.......2004-12-28
This book's objective is to land you an interview. Before reading this book I could only say I had 1 maybe 2 interviews total in a period of a few months. After reading this book and using some of its suggestions I have had several more.
Overall I'd rate it a 4.8 since I feel that Paula is a bit too forward with some of her suggestions (for example closing statements on cover letters that are a bit overboard imo).
But that's my only complaint =)
No matter your position in life be it a freshout of college or an experienced IT vet who's looking for something different, this book will pay for itself many times over.
Ace the IT Resume!.......2004-01-15
This book is excellent!!! If you think your resume is good, think again. Follow the steps in this book and you'll see a totally new person. I used it in conjunction with Ace the IT Job Interview and it got me a job.
Absolutely Horrifying!.......2003-11-24
I do not know where these women got their credentials, but they are WAY off the mark! DO NOT LIE ON YOUR RESUME! No matter what this book recommends! For instance, the authors state: "If your offical title is Tech Level I, you might be responsible for database administration, PC support, and webmaster duties. If you're hoping to move into DBA, list 'database administrator' as the job title and as the first bullet describe your responsibilities in this function." Wrong, wrong, wrong! As a hiring manager and interviewer, if I discover you lied about your job title, especially when you were a Tech I and you claimed to be a DBA, I will wonder what else you lied about. And believe me, I'll find out when I call your previous employers to verify your employment history. No, instead, when in this situation, downplay, emphasize the job title you want, and even omit your job titles, and use the opportunity to emphasize your skills. That way, even if you don't have the right job title, you can demonstrate to me that it doesn't matter. But NEVER, EVER lie or deliberately mislead anyone. Then they'll just feel like you were trying to trick them, which is NOT very impressive.

Book Description
For many years, genes have been thought of as immutable: “You can’t change, it’s hereditary” was the mantra. But studies now show that genes are functioning and changing, every minute, every second. According to The Divine Code of Life, dormant genes have the potential to “wake up” and transform personality and outlook. The book shows how mental and emotional factors — negatives like stress and positives like excitement, joy, gratitude, and spirituality — are also involved in switching genes on or off. Drawing on recent scientific research and the author’s own observations, this book shows that humans can bring forth their talents at any age. How? Dr. Murakami argues that a positive outlook can turn on the genes that are necessary to bring happiness and success into anyone’s life and turn off the bad genes. He calls this process "genetic thinking" — a science-based approach to controlling the genes by cultivating enthusiasm and inspiration.
Customer Reviews:
Very Interesting.......2007-07-24
I found some sections of the book relatively boring, however, the book as a whole I found very interesting. I recommend not purchasing the book, and just getting it for free from your library or just going to your local bookstore and reading it over a period of 2-3 days. I finished the book in 2 days, and it is a fairly easy read.
interesting.......2006-12-21
here is a great quote from page ix: "A recent experiment I led, which I will describe in detail later, found that laughter significantly reduced blood-sugar levels in diabetics after meals" WOW
Thought Provoking.......2006-09-30
This book does a wonderful job of driving home one simple but very important point: the importance of gratitude. I know there are many books out there on the power of belief, but this author posits the idea that our genes actually respond to an attitude of gratitude, which is a new idea to me.
Inspirational.......2006-07-21
I have long been interested in the connection between science and spirituality. I've read David Bohm's works and watched "What the Bleep do We Know?" So when I heard about the Divine Code I immediately started reading it and finished it within one day. I was inspired and energized to live a more fulfilling life. For all the skeptics out there who don't believe in anything that we cannot perceive with our senses, hear is a resounding answer. The power of gratitude and positive thinking is supported by scientific experiments as this wonderful author elucidates in this easy to read book.
Murakami concludes that life is such a miracle that it must be the product of "somthing great." He briefly touches on the possibility that we have a soul and reincarnate.
I was inspired to search out new information on the soul and reincarnation and a friend recommended
"This Side of the Gate" by John P. Johnston.
It's a fascinatingly fresh look at these concepts and adds insight into what Murakami speculates on. These new books have inspired me once again to rededicate myself to the spiritual quest.
The Hidden Order of the Universe.......2006-06-01
It is not uncommon to find top scientists revealing an interest in religion or spirituality later in their careers. Sometimes it has always been present, as in the Nobel Laureate John Eccles, but in others it appears as a sense of wonder as they learn more about the machinery of the Universe. Kazuo Murakami is a world-class geneticist who seems to fall into the second category.
The book begins with some very basic descriptions about genetics. He then moves on to a description about the fluid nature of genes. He is quite correct that most are switched on and off depending upon environmental conditions and, most of the time, most are barely functioning. He also talks about the apparent transmission of genes between sexual partners and the inheritance of acquired characteristics. All this is true, and part of a revolution in our understanding of how genes function. It was long assumed that most had to be fixed little programmers, because how otherwise could the structural and functional integrity of the body be maintained? But things are not quite so simple. I think that I may have been the person who coined the term "The Dancing Genes," to describe this strange paradox.
We then get into the third section, where he discusses some of his own research that appears to indicate an effect of positive psychology on gene expression. It was this that so impressed the Dalai Lama at a meeting in Dharamsala, India, some eighteen months ago. We already know that stress can inhibit the expression of a gene involved in the synthesis of acetylcholine: one of the key players in many cognitive functions and in Alzheimer's disease. So it is entirely plausible that positive mental states may do something good to our genes. In a study of people with type II diabetes, he found that laughter was associated with an apparent change in the activity of 23 genes. He does not mention in the book that these were 23 out of 18,716 genes that were screened. Naturally that rather changes the impact of the findings. Nonetheless, the research is interesting and needs to be replicated by independent researchers, so that we can better understand it.
He finishes with some suggestions for producing mental states that may perhaps have positive effects on our genes: have noble intentions; be thankful and keep your thoughts positive. Nobody would dispute the value of those sentiments. Though it is also important to note that there is research that has failed to find a correlation between some of these factors, the risk of getting sick and quality of life and survival from some cancers.
In summary, it is great to see a world-class scientist explain in simple terms that biology is not destiny. And that he is in awe at the hidden order of the universe. He certainly goes beyond the data when he makes suggestions about how we should think and live. There's nothing at all wrong with some speculation, but for people not familiar with the field, it's a bit difficult to work out what is fact and what is speculation.
But if it turns out that he is correct, the implications for all of us will be extraordinary.

Customer Reviews:
good.......2007-09-01
My son needed this book for summer reading for school. He actually enjoyed reading it. Thank you!
Too Slow.......2007-02-07
Martin is famous around home for shooting off his mouth, constantly getting himself in trouble both with his parents and with authority figures at school. After getting thrown out of a series of schools, he ends up at Edgeview, a boarding school for trouble boys that is seen as the last stop for them. At first Martin's attitude toward his new school is horrible. He gets on the bad side of the principal and all of the teachers the first day, and his roommate and roommate's friends are all very strange.
Soon, though, Martin begins to see something different in his classmates' strangeness. Flinch seems to see things coming at him before they happen. Cheater always knows the answer to trivia questions. Torchie is insistent he isn't setting the fires that pop up all around him. Martin suspects that his friends might have special powers. The hard part becomes convincing the boys themselves that they are more than the losers and outcasts they've been told they are for so long.
I liked the basic story, as well as the characters. However, we know from the title of the book and the description on the back that the boys in this story have "hidden talents." Therefore, the part of the book leading up to Martin realizing it and then the boys themselves realizing it is excruciatingly slow. I kept wanting to shake them, to make them open their eyes and see the evidence that was piled up in front of them. The part of the book in which they actually accepted and used their powers was too short compared to the leadup.
Hidden Talents.......2007-01-16
I LOVE David Lubar's style. My son is 14 and I am considerably older, but we both love Lubar's books. He has such a marvelous grasp of the adolescent mind. This one starts out a little slow, but is worth the wait.
I wish i had hiiden talents!.......2006-04-25
my teacher read this book to our class. I thought it was really funny.
Cute book, nice read.......2006-02-09
We read this book for my son's book club at school. Most of both the adults and children in the book club enjoyed this book, though a few adults thought that the main character was a bit too wise and mature for his age to be believable. The group of misfits that are depicted in the book are very likeable, too the point where you have a hard time understanding why a few of them have ended up at a "last chance" school.
The idea of hidden talents was fun, and promted some conversation about whether anyone would want those kind of powers and how sometimes even authority figures (such as teachers) can let personal feelings get in the way of being fair and impartial.
Overall, it was an enjoyable, light read.

Paramountly well written.......2007-01-04
When you read a book and can ratchet up at least six notches and not downing one, the book deserves Six stars:
1) The story'll hook you up since the beginning. You won't be able to put it down.
2) You'll read a thrilling mystery, both in one book.
3) As in all of her books the characters are well depicted and every story of them will add some spice to the plot.
4) You'll learn to trust your friends even if they are alienated, and be careful of your foes.
5) A great love story. You'll trust in the power of love.
6) You'll learn that no-matter how much time it takes, you can always forgive your family and live a good life with them.
One of Krentz's Best!.......2004-05-01
This book is not perfect so maybe I shouldn't have given it 5 stars, but it is definitely better than 99% of the romances out there. Serenity and Caleb are wonderful together and although the dialogue was not as snappy as some of the JAKs I've read that is more than made up for by the characters' warmth and caring. Once Serenity and Caleb work out their initial problem their relationship never looks back. Conflict comes from outside and throughout the book they get through things by depending on each other. To me this is what love and romance are all about. As usual Ms. Krentz writes some great secondary characters and a fairly good mystery. I must agree with another reviewer though that Serenity's ex-boyfriend is a pure annoyance and not cute or charming at all. But I did find the prologue and epilogue funny. All in all, very highly recommended.
A Book Worth Buying, and Re-reading for Years to Come!.......2003-12-29
Caleb Ventress & Serenity Makepeace. Great characters. People that I would hang out with...if they were real :-)
Caleb doesn't want to feel, because he has been hurt. Serenity is a strong woman, who feels, loves, and is a bit out of the ordinary. There are many twists and turns in their relationship, which is what gives us a reason to read the book, but they end up happy, together, and well. The secondary characters, those in Witts End, and Ventress Valley, are well put together and enhance the storyline.
As with the majority of Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick books, the characters are off beat, the suspense is great, the romance is exceptional, and the story is worth your time.
There is nothing like a Jayne Ann Krenz to sit down for a good read with. I especially like the fact that this work has an epiloge.
Thanks, Ms. Krentz, for the book! Write more like this, please!
This One Is My Favorite.......2003-08-30
The characters who make up the small town of Witt's End are depicted lovingly and with great humor. Jayne Ann Krentz' forte is characterization. But never underestimate her way with plot, either. The murder mystery is gripping.
Strange things happen when at one's wits' end.......2002-01-30
JAYNE KRENTZ did an excellent job with this mystery/romance thriller. I loved how she weaved the love story around the surprise death of a resident in Witt's End. How about the name of that town? Right away we should have known that some strange things were going to happen in a town with the name Witt's End. Basically, everyone in that small town were at their wits' end. The town was dying unless someone gave it a "shot in the arm": and, a shot it got, opening of a mail-order company for the products they offered.
They say, opposites attrack. It sure was true in this book. Who would have expected the big-time businessman to fall for a strange lady of unconventional qualities from Witt's End. His doing so demonstrated that he too was at his wits' end for relationships. He gambled away his rich family inheritance for this free-spirited lady. In the process, he relives his childhood years and discovers he never was treated like a real member of the family and that his lost was really not a lost at all but it was a enlightment and a gain.
The mysterious Witt's End held secrets of its own but when discovered one-at-a-time those secrets constructed a bond with that town that could not be ignored.
Krentz, kept me interested right up to the end and I am sure you will be too.

Book Description
Dulcie Ballantyne knows that creative writers' groups attract an unlikely mix of people, so when she starts up Hidden Talents, she is well prepared for the assortment of people she is bringing together. Beth King is facing empty-nest syndrome as her only son, Nathan, leaves home for university; Jack Solomon, a local estate agent, is having trouble coming to terms with the shock of his wife leaving him for his best friend; Jaz Rafferty is an intensely private 17-year-old girl who writes to escape her large, boisterous family; Victor Blackmore is a know-it-all, who claims to be writing the blockbuster novel every publisher will be clamouring for. What they all have in common is a need to escape, as well as a desire to keep their lives as private as possible. As they grow more confident in their writing skills, friendships develop, and gradually they come to realize that a little openness isn't necessarily a bad thing.
