GET THE SAME CODES FROM THE INTERNET!!.......2007-02-22
There certainly are a lot of codes in this book - but I couldn't find any new codes that I had not already seen on the internet. The book is cheap enough - but I wouldn't buy another code book again - not a single secret I could see!

Only for novice gamers.......2001-07-11
This guide to Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter is quite comprehensive. It contains countless details on items, spells, weapons and armor. The enemies you'll face are discussed. Locations of hidden treasures are revealed. For those gamers who are stuck, the guide offers detailed maps and walkthroughs for each area in the Heart of Winter expansion.
Despite this wealth of information, I believe that this book does not provide a good value for gamers. First of all, 99% of these "secrets" and strategies can be found for free on the internet. Secondly, the game manuals (supplied with the game) are quite comprehensive themselves, meaning that this strategy guide is often just repeating information that has already been presented. But even more importantly, this book provides so much information as to take all the fun out of playing the game.
Icewind Dale and Heart of Winter are very "linear" games. In other words, there is usually only one path to take. So the fun comes from building up your party of brave adventurers through hard-fought battles with terrible monsters. The manual deliberately leaves out all the tiny details on how best to group your party, or what weapons to use in different situations, leaving these things for the player to discover. Unfortunately, the manual reveals all this and more, and I feel that it leaves almost nothing for the player to discover on his/her own. I realize some people will consider my comments to be unfair criticism; after all, this is a strategy guide and it is *supposed* to reveal the techniques that work! Plus, the argument continues, you don't *have* to read those sections.
To its credit, this strategy guide does provide some very useful suggestions on one of the most important parts of the game: creating your characters. You will live (or die!) with these characters for the rest of the game, and it is important to create a well-balanced party, not to mention one that you'll enjoy playing with. Here the guide really does shine, helping players choose from the many player types available. Yet once again, I must point out that this information is available for free on various internet fan sites.
So if you are a novice gamer, and Heart of Winter has you stuck and frustrated -- and if you like holding a book in your lap -- then this guide will be a good purchase. But for everyone else, I'd suggest saving your money.

Unraveling the mystery of the snowmobile bandit kept me up half of the night. The situations were very realistic and the author did a great job of adding suspense in the mytery and in the romance between Sheriff Rodd and Nurse Wendy. I just had to keep reading until the end.

The book is much more than "thickness = warmth" It provides very good advice on several ways to create that thickness when none exists, as well as giving expert guidence on the make-up and effectiveness of different fabrics and materials as insulators.
For as inexpensive as the reference is, I say its a good buy.
Clear, accurate wisdom........2005-11-18
There is much more in this book than just "thickness equals warmth". The info on vapor barriers, moisture condensation in fabrics, body heat reflection, and heat loss through breathing are all excellent. Much of this information is not widely available, and in fact is considered "wrong" by a large group of outdoor "experts". Buy the book, try the recommendations, and become one of the few true cold weather experts yourself.
OK book, but not worth buying.......2001-02-22
This is an OK book, but not worth buying. The book is too repetitive, and could be shortened to a few pages. The basic idea of the book is: warmth = thickness. Most insulation insulates because of the dead air space it traps (not because of what the insulation is made of), so the idea of staying warm is to just have enough dead air space. So, the "Secret of Warmth" is to just use something to make dead air space and seal it up good so the wind won't blow in and the air won't leak out. And don't get it wet. There, you've read the book.

This book is easy to read, and it's easy to apply the basic secrets for staying warm. After 34 years of chilly Canadian winters, I've FINALLY found a way to have warm fingers and toes all the time.

Great Resource to Improve your health.......2003-08-17
Steve Ilg is an interesting character and an incredibly fit man. I have been working out for 15 years, but when I tried some of the programs in this book--they tested my will! Its a terrific book to give an athlete new training ideas. The concept of changing your training routine it really useful. How many of us fall into the routine of doing the same thing over and over again? Of course, Ilg's merging of the spiritual, intellectual and physical is also awesome.

this book is one of the best bargains about outdoor sport on the market today. it's 450+ pages are jam packed with tips on equipment and technique, other books to read, phone numbers . .on and on and on.
nearly one third of the book is devoted to sport specific training programs-complete with illustrations-distilled from a lifetime devoted to outdoor sport both competitive and non competitive.
besides nordic and alpine skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, ice climbing and mountaineering, the winter athlete covers a lot of ground that's not snow covered as well. there are chapters on cycling (road & mtb), skating, rock climbing, trail running, kayaking . .
there is something in this book for everyone. everytime i pick it up i learn something new.
along with sport specific training advice, ilg also covers general strength and endurance training, nutrition, flexibility and mental preparation.
ilg's training philosophy is not without it's critics. he believes that everything an athlete does can be considered training. how you live your life is how you perform your sport. ilg is apt to tell a weight lifter to free his mind and his body will follow or a runner to "run with the earth not upon it." ilg's writing style is informative and fun. he loves the natural world and it shows.
you can accept his philosophy or not. for the humble sum of twenty bucks you get a stunning buffet of information that you can partake of or leave alone.
what more can i say. winter athlete rocks.

This book is a must read for all people who venture outdoors in pursuit of sport. While the emphasis is on the winter sports, the lessons transfer easily to all seasons. What is refreshing & unique about Steve's approach is his refusal to compartmentalize sport and exercise into another item to be checked off a to do list. His approach teaches that the lessons of effort and grace and persistence learned on the slopes & trails & tracks can and should transfer to the daily activities of life. A more unique book you will not find. Buy this to increase your enjoyment & skill of your chosen winter sport and you will get that benefit & much more.

Comfort and consolation for caregivers and patients........2007-06-29
I have talked with Jerry Griffen and have read his/Pam's book and found that much is explained about caring and letting go and consolation and hope. It is a book of comfort when you feel you just can't take it anymore. I have bought and sent many of these books to friends who have thanked me, after resisting wanting to read it. This book is very helpful in sorting out feelings and priorities and it gives the reader courage. I highly recommend this book for anyone facing personal trauma.

Outstanding "how to" and "preparation for" book........1998-11-27
I purchased this book in advance of an ice-fishing trip to North Dakota a group of us are planning to make in January, 1999. This volume is so thorough, that I just ordered "Hooked on Ice Fishing Volume I" over Amazon.com.
This book saved me from making over $300 in unecessary equipment purchaes. I was thinking about buying a Flasher sonar unit for the trip, but descriptions accompanied by pictures of LCR units in this volume made me realize that one of my current units will work just fine on ice, and now I know how to accurately interpret the signals when the unit is stationary as opposed to moving in a boat.
This is one of the best fishing books I have ever read.
