Book Description

A moving tale of love and forgiveness by bestselling author Barbara Delinsky.

When she was just seventeen, Marni Lange loved Brian Webster with a consuming passion. Then a tragic accident tore them apart. Brian's broken body mended, but he never forgave himself for the accident that killed Marni's brother. Marni, her world equally shattered, was forced to choose between honoring her powerful, wealthy family . . . and the man she loved.

Now, fourteen years later, Marni is a successful businesswoman about to be profiled by a world-famous photographer . . . Brian Webster. Suddenly they find themselves face-to-face with the past that has haunted them. As a teenager, Marni couldn't defy her family. But now she's a formidable woman in her own right, willing to fight to hold on to what matters most: her family, her legacy and a second chance at love.

4 out of 5 stars This review refers to the audiobook.......2006-12-26

This was a nice, fast paced story of reconciliation, healing and forgiveness. The meant-to-be type of romance between soulmates appeals to my hopelessly romantic heart, and I especially like the mature way Marnie stood up against her parent's controlling manipulativeness, leaving the door open for acceptance and a loving resolution.

5 out of 5 stars Highly enjoyable read.......2003-09-08

Once I started reading this book, I found it hard to put down. Delinsky uses a great mix of romance, drama and even a bit of comedy. The main characters had interesting careers (one a corporate CEO and the other a famous photographer) and a tragically intertwined past. I like how Marni stands up to her father when she realizes Brian is the thing she wants even more than her powerful job running the family business - which she was basically pushed into after the tragic death of her brother, in an accident that left Brian severely wounded. Love conquers all in this story and it brings a smile to my heart.

3 out of 5 stars I had a hard time relating to the characters.......2002-12-05

The books overall story is great but I had a hard time getting lost in the characters. I find that many of Delinskys books leave you a little distanced from the characters. I empathized with the characters, but it didn't hold my interest as would other novels I have read. It reminds me of jumping in the shower before taking my clothes off.. I like my books to slowly envelope my mind and take over. This did not do that.

5 out of 5 stars great!.......2001-09-13

Book Description

Vaccine A tells a story of betrayal, of medical arrogance flourishing in the absence of public accountability, shielded by an unquestioning deference to national security. Investigative journalist Gary Matsumoto reveals that thousands of young men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces were subjected to medical experiments that were conducted without their knowledge or consent-and that have put them in grave danger. Not only have military scientists performed unethical experiments on U.S. and British soldiers; not only are they refusing to admit either the experiments or the effects they caused; not only are they continuing to use a deadly substance in experimental vaccines-this substance is being developed for use in vaccines intended for mass immunization around the globe. In an alarming narrative, Vaccine A recounts this scientific tragedy-from the U.S. Army's tradition of medical experimentation on soldiers through to the present, where the consequences of these experimental vaccines, if administered to civilians, will be unimaginably devastating.

5 out of 5 stars How the government hates ill veterans and wants them to die.......2007-09-30

The books documents a slow death. Painful and debilitating. The government does not care.

2 out of 5 stars A fascinating subject, but a repetitive book.......2007-02-18

I had been waiting a year to find the time to read this intriguing book. However, having just finished it, I find myself dissatisfied and frustrated. While the subject is certainly interesting and one on which we should probably all educate ourselves, I found the book to be extremely repetitive. As a medical student, the science wasn't over my head but I caught myself skimming parts of the last 75 pages for new information that hadn't already been written about earlier in the book. Matsumoto says the same thing 400 different ways... the only part that drew me in were the personal stories scattered throughout the pages. Reading the book jacket is probably sufficient to tell you everything you'd want to know... I'm thoroughly disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars It reads like a novel.......2006-07-13

Gary Matsumoto is a very talented author. This book is written in the style of a novel, even though it is non-fiction and scientifically oriented. The science is explained in lay person's terms and is easy to understand. The story is well paced and keeps one's interest.

Everyone to whom I loaned this book just loved it, even though its frightening to think we're living under a government that would allow harmful vaccines to be used on people. The information in this book is important to the general public and could save lives. The only people who would not enjoy this book are the ones who trust the government and the pharmaceutical industry and could not stand to have that trust shaken.

5 out of 5 stars This excellent exposý should be a bestseller!.......2006-05-06

I had originally planned on a military career and was destined for Annapolis back in the 1980s, but then learned that hundreds of U.S. servicemen had been cruelly abandoned in Vietnam by "our" government as POWs. (Read "Kiss The Boys Goodbye")

Well, the treason continues...

Matsumoto's superb book chronicles modern evidence that our military has again been given the shaft. While Vaccine A may not have originally been a conspiracy, the subsequent coverup certainly is. Afflicted men and women who honorably fought for America are being told that their vaccine-induced afflictions are imaginary or fakery.

If you want to serve your country, be sure that you are not taking a dramatic health risk from your government in doing so. If you've a child who is considering enlisting, read this book before they unknowingly sign away their life for dangerous medical experimentation performed without their informed consent.

Squalene vaccines are now being stored for the rest of us, for the next overblown or contrived health issue. You look at your food before you eat it, don't you? Maybe you should look at the next vaccine very carefully before it's injected into your body.

Our Gulf War vets had no way of knowing that the squalene vaccine was extremely harmful. But thanks to their unwitting sacrifice, we can protect ourselves with this book.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Read for All Citizens!.......2005-06-05

What is the cost of Freedom? Within this well researched book is an example. The Anthrax vaccine given during the Gulf War through current times, laced with a toxic substance call squalene, is such an example. The research within this book is beyond question. Every veteran, patriot, and ordinary citizen of the USA, Canada, Great Britian, Austraila, and possibly New Zeland should read this book, no holds barred! Highly recommended!

Book Description

Lots of piano books offer either in-depth analysis or quick gimmicks that don't really teach music theory. But The Only Basic Piano Instruction Book You'll Ever Need is different. For students who want to learn the basics and dive right into playing, this book skips all the unnecessary trivia on the history of pianos and avoids lengthy digressions on classical and contemporary musicians. Instead, it focuses specifically on piano instruction and includes:
  • The basics of musical terms, definitions, note-reading structure, and time and key signatures
  • The foundations for chords and more complicated note constructs
  • Exercises and sample pieces of music that range from playing simple notes to combining harmony and melody
Perfect even for those starting from scratch, The Only Basic Piano Book You'll Ever Need makes learning to play a cinch.

This book was not a good choice to learn how to play the piano. It's good reading material...but not good to sit at the piano and try to play

    5 out of 5 stars Very Pleased.......2007-01-20

I have dabbled in piano here and there and took a beginning class in college. I wanted to continue now that I am older, but didn't want to go through everything all over again. I was very pleased with this book. It did have all the basics, but it was quick enough that you weren't dwelling on them. It gave a great section on the different keys, which is what I am spending my time on now. I thought it was very clear, very straightforward and I enjoyed the exercises in them. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who wants a summary of basic piano theory or who is committed to studying themselves.

2 out of 5 stars It is good, but not for me.......2006-12-31

I am new to music and thought this might be "the only basic piano instruction I'll ever need". Maybe I am not musically talented enough, I feel that the book gone far too fast for a beginner - I even have hard time playing the first simple tune. Nevertheless, I must say that the content of the book is really robust and complete, it just that it doesn't suit me. I am better with "Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course" series, and it is a good idea to check that series before you decide

    Book Description

Let the teacher who works with Tiger Woods, the world's best player, help you cure the yips—the frustrating problem that can cause even the greatest players to miss short putts, jab chip shots over the green, or miss fairways by eighty yards off the tee.

“The yips can make you feel like you want to quit golf and take up fishing full time. I know. I've been there. But Hank's experience and sensitivity to the problem make him unique in the world of golf instructors. If you have the yips, you couldn't be in any better hands than Hank Haney's.”
—Mark O'Meara, from the Foreword to Fix the Yips Forever

Most golfers think of the “yips” as a psychological affliction, a confidence problem that causes them to lose control of their game because of a split-second glitch. But scientists are now starting to unlock the true root of the problem: focal dystonia, a motor-neural malfunction that causes a player's brain to distort the message being sent to the muscles. Acclaimed golf instructor Hank Haney used these discoveries to overcome his twenty-year battle with the yips, and now he shares his breakthrough regimen that can “rewire” any golfer who struggles with the yips.

Showcasing dozens of practical, hands-on techniques for eliminating the yips from putting, chipping, and the full swing, Fix the Yips Forever delivers the brand of prescriptive advice and drills that have made Haney one of the most sought after golf instructors in the world. This groundbreaking handbook features more than 100 black-and-white photographs, including reproductions of diagnostic screens and Haney's ultrasound “yips measurement System” for hands-on yip-free training. If you can't make it to Haney's Golf Ranch for a personal diagnosis, Fix the Yips Forever is the next best thing.

    Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars no forever fix for the yips found in this book.......2007-06-22

It took me many years to find out that I've had the yips since I learned to play golf when I was only twelve years old. Its terrible to love this game so much and not be able to progress simply because this strange ailment that came into my swing when I least expected. It affected not only my putting but every aspect of my game, maybe the wiring in my brain is not suitable for playing golf but because hope is the last thing you loose I keep looking for a cure.

A few years ago I started learning about the neurological causes of the yips from the studies on the Mayo Clinic, they found that is simply an involuntary movement similar to what is known as distonia or basically a nervous tic that appears in moments of stress. After so many years at least I have an explanation to my weird unexpected swings, the sad thing about this study is that the researchers didn't have a clue on how to cure the condition.

So you can imagine the illusion into which I bought this book, with such a promising title and by such a prominent author I couldn't wait to find out how to get rid of the yips that have make me so miserable for so many years.

Good explanation about the causes of the yips and an interesting research by the germans with the device to detect the exact moment on which a golfer gets the involuntary movement, otherwise this book is a rip off. It does not deliver what it promises, it only make some suggestions on how to help yourself on controlling the yips not to get rid of them. The author recognizes the difficulty in controling the yips when chipping and give only a few hints for controlling your putting and the driver but no statistical evidence to prove if this methods work short or long term.

I feel like if I've been taken again by one of the golf gurus who keep selling magic clubs or devices to improve our game when most of the time they know the falseness of their claims, didn't expected from Tiger Woods coach and now I don't know whom to trust anymore.

5 out of 5 stars If you have them, you're in the right place.......2007-01-09

If you suspect that the dreaded y word is part of your golf makeup, then this book is necessary reading. You don't cure them; you learn to live with them, and Hank shows you how. From the mild forms to the worst of cases, Hank Haney will help you learn to enjoy golf again.

Great practical materials and tools across the spectrum of AI are designed with a lot of ideas how to apply any AI initiative.
This book is well organized and readable and a must for every OD practicioner and change agent.

5 out of 5 stars An Extraordinary Tool For Leaders.......2004-06-28

Appreciative Inquiry Handbook offers a rich, navigational guide for industries across the spectrum. Appreciative Inquiry Handbook reflects a new paradigm in American and global industry; a must-read for industry leaders!

    5 out of 5 stars Appreciative Intent.......2004-06-11

This handbook guides you in applying appreciative inquiry methods in a variety of settings. We have had good results conducting two facilitation assignments with "Appreciative Intent".

In our most recent assignment, our client was impressed with the quality and quantity of the information gathered. Additionally, members of the client's leadership were also impressed with the level of participation from some of the more "quiet" people in the organization. The one-on-one questionnaire technique levels the playing field for people with a more introverted personality. Also, if you like applying a "Theory of Constraints" approach to operations you will observe that using the interview/questionnaire approach creates a multi-channel process when brain storming. (i.e. more conversations can be carried on simultaneously, thereby creating a larger stream of information or ideas in less time)

      Book Description

The campus of the University of New Mexico, blending New Mexico's characteristic Pueblo style architecture with regionally sensitive modernist forms, is unique among American college campuses, most of which have been modeled on European architectural styles. Since UNM's early days its leaders have wanted the state's flagship university to be a distinctly New Mexican place, what one writer called a “pueblo on the mesa.” Now Van Dorn Hooker, who served for many years as the university architect, has written a history of the architecture and planning of this beautiful campus.

UNM's third president, William George Tight, fell in love with New Mexico in the late nineteenth century. His visionary appreciation of the creative genius of Hispanic and Pueblo architects, artists, and craftsmen led him to hire an architect to remodel UNM's first building along the lines of the mission churches that dominate New Mexico's Indian pueblos. This decision set the tone. In the mid twentieth century many UNM buildings were constructed in the Pueblo style, some of them designed by John Gaw Meem, the greatest practitioner of Pueblo-style architecture.

Hooker's account will appeal to anyone who has ever studied, taught, or worked at UNM. But its significance goes far beyond nostalgia. New Mexico was still a territory when the university was founded. And because the founding of UNM coincided with the arrival of the railroad in New Mexico, the growth of the university coincides with Albuquerque's transition from small town to city as well as with the territory's attainment of statehood and the changes it has experienced in the course of the twentieth century. To read Hooker's inside account of the ways decisions were made, buildings were funded, and the university interacted with federal, state, and local governments and events is to understand the ways institutions grow and change and the interaction of wise planning with the inevitability of unintended consequences.

Winner of the New Mexico Heritage Preservation Award from the State Office of Cultural Affairs, 2001.

An architectural history of the University of New Mexico campus, with insights into how institutions grow and change.

      4 out of 5 stars So now I know.......................2002-04-17

I attended the University of New Mexico in the 90's, and as a student studying archaeology my curiosity always got the best of me. Looking at all of those buildings, I always wanted to know the history behind them. I guess I could of gone into the libraries and done a little research of my own, but I spent enough time in the library, so that wasn't my first choice on how to spend my free time. This book answered so many questions. It also filled me in on some history that I never even new about. "Only in New Mexico"is mainly for UNM alum and fans of Southwest architecture. Anyone who isn't familiar with the campus probably won't appreciate all of the changes revealed in this book. Former students will love it.......at least the ones who were paying attention while they were there.

Narratives on famous guitarists and the extra details on guitar history are fine, but that's not what readers need or want when they are eager to master their new guitar. The Only Basic Guitar Instruction Book You'll Ever Need jumps straight into teaching beginners note reading, hand positions, and other essentials, including how to:
    • Hold their guitar properly and pick notes with their right hand
    • Progress beyond the basics to integrate playing with both hands
    • Shift positions, play harmony, and understand chord structures
Although learning the guitar can seem intimidating, this easy-to-use, step-by-step guide is simple enough even for novices, who can start picking simple tunes and learn to play chords in no time.

      2 out of 5 stars Major & Minor Confusion.......2007-07-17

I bought this book because I knew nothing about the guitar and needed the basics. The first chapter is fine, but the authors leave big gaps as they go along in teaching you the songs. For example, they teach you a couple of chords and then give you songs in tablature, yet they only offer a small paragraph in the beginning of the book about how to read tablature. I had to turn away from this book to go on with my learning. I don't recommend it. And, by the way, I found that photos of people playing chords doesn't help. Sound files and charts are much better!

This one is just TOO basic - the level it aims at could be better addressed with one or two lessons - and, I believe, better. I didn't return it, though. I'll gift it to someone who wants to learn the basics - on their own!

This is an excellent book as it gives great info regarding depression DURING pregnancy. Well written.

      5 out of 5 stars A great resource!.......2005-09-30

I read this before my first child was born and it was so helpful. It was very honest and informative, but NOT SCARY like so many other books that I read. I highly recommend this book for first timers and beyond.

4 out of 5 stars Knowing what to expect makes the unknown easier to approach........2004-06-29

For many women, the time period after giving birth is an unknown -- How will they feel? Is there any pain involved? What can I expect? Even though each pregnancy and after birth experience is different, if a woman has never given birth before, she is much in the dark about what she can actually expect.

The book "The Post-Pregnancy Handbook," by Sylvia Brown, explains in detail what new mothers can expect to feel after giving birth. It discusses recovery and any problems you might experience; caring for and getting your body back after you get home; breastfeeding; relationship issues; sex; and exercise.

MyParenTime.com recommends this book -- it answers many questions that women might be afraid to ask their doctors, and aims to reassure women that they can recover from pregnancy...physically, emotionally, and sexually. If women know what to expect after childbirth, they will be more equipped to deal with post-pregnancy experiences.

5 out of 5 stars Give this book to every pregnant woman.......2004-02-27

When I was pregnant I read a ton of pregnancy and baby books, but none prepared me for the post-pregnancy realities. All pregnancy books ended at labor and all baby books started with baby. But I had a really difficult time after the birth of my first baby and there was nothing available for ME. This book gives new moms honest information to help them get back to themselves in every way -- emotionally, physically and sexually. Now I give this book to every pregnant friend. It is the best shower gift.

4 out of 5 stars Fine guide book.......2003-11-07

THE POST-PREGNANCY HANDBOOK provides a wide scope look at post-partum issues that mothers face in the first year following the birth of the child. The self help book came about because Ms. Brown found little guidance amidst the available but scattered literature as her body continued with the change process that pregnancy caused.

The guide is a general help tool on a myriad of topics (this reviewer doubts any were left out or at least cannot think of any), but by attempting to be so comprehensive, depth is somewhat lacking. When I showed my husband the statistician some of the supporting numbers, he groused that the statistical support lacks specificity making it unreliable as a source of information.

Still this is an easy to follow book and appears comprehensive in terms of including all the issues (medical and societal). Used correctly as an all-purpose guide that needs follow-up with a personal professional, THE POST-PREGNANCY HANDBOOK is a strong tome assisting the new momma with one source that furbishes possible answers to a host of questions and doubts.

5 out of 5 stars Three super books in ONE!.......2002-09-20

Three powerhouse writers Anne Stuart, Elizabeth Lowell and Barbara Delinksy with three full size novels in one!! This is how reprints should be done!!!

Anne Stuart the Queen of the blacksoul, blackhearted bad boys we loves, gives a change of pace with a smiling, kinder-gentler hero in Chain of Love. Cathy Whiteheart was barely pulling out of the deep depression after an abusive relationship, so her sister drags her on board aa yacht for a day in the sun. What she did not count on was Sin - Sinclair McDonald the owner of the boat being handsome, and pure male. He is imposing, terrifying and so bloody attractive that he send conflicting emotions running wild in a woman that has been hiding for life.
Sin is more than just sexy, he is funny and kind...something she is not used to in a man. These characters are warm, real and easy to love.

The dynamite Lowell gives us one of her best in Granite Man - the rock em - sockem Cowboy hero with a chip on his shoulder and a past bearing down on him. But is does not stop Mariah Mackenzie was slipping past his defences.

The Third is Delinsky's First, Best and Only - A CEO Marnie Lang meets with her first and best lover Drain Webster, could they make it work this time around? The Character captive your heart.

I love it when they reprint these books you might have missed first time around, but show respect to the readers and no try to push them off as individual books at big book prices.
