"""RAISING THE DEAD IS EASY. LOVE IS HARD..."" There are lots of reasons to raise the dead-some private, some public. In this case, the feds have a witness who died before he could speak on the record. They want him raised so his testimony can be taken. So here I am, on a plane to Philadelphia, flying off to do my job. But I'm not alone. Micah is with me. Micah, head of the St. Louis wereleopard pard. King to my Queen. The only one of my lovers who can stir my blood with just a glance from his chartreuse cat's eyes. I was happy to have him at my side. Until he mentioned that this will be our first time alone together. No Master Vampire. No Alpha Werewolf. Just me and Micah. And all my fears and doubts..."

not up to Hamiltons usual standard.......2007-09-22
In all honesty, as a Hamilton fan and a fan of the anita blake series, I still have to say that "Mica" is quite a disappointment for all of us who was hoping for some alone time with our favourite leopard. Not much time to speak of at all, the book feels more like s hort story and ends before it even had time to begin. Though on th positive side it does have more of an actual story to it that the recent books in the "blake-series" as Hamilton has a tendency to get too wrapped up on moments to be able to focus on the book as a whole. I can however add that the folloing book "the harlequin" is a big step in the right direction so I will say there is still hope for us Anite Blake fans.
i love micah&nathanial!!!.......2007-09-01
i have followed this series in every book and i have been fascinated, intrigued and amused by the wonderful diverse characters, the poignancy and the love.there is a depth of love with micah and nathanial,a gentleness and tenderness and sweetness that is soo very hard to find any more since it seems most writers consider these emotions weaknesses.don't miss this novel .....
And the spiral continues..........2007-08-04
Laurell...what WERE you thinking?!
As a fan from your earliest works I shivered with each page, turning one after another until I realized with the closing of the back cover that this book had not improved from page one to the end. Is this the beginning of the end? A nail in your literary coffin, being hammered deep by a huge and heavy sledge hammer of fan and reader dispair?
I want you to know I resurrected faith against all who claimed it could not happen...faith that you will put The Anita Blake series back on track, show us more interaction between the characters in a verbal fashion rather than an olympic form of shagging anything that breathes (or doesn't *ick*). Where was the perverse humor we have come to love in your Anita Blake series? The quick come-backs and sly sniping? The slick patter? The mystifying and sometimes terrifying worlds within worlds?
"MICAH" was a sad shadow of those earlier triumphs and I hope, and pray, HARLEQUIN is a far better gift.
I am just one voice crying out, into the dark, for the rest of your readers. Can you hear us?
reading.......2007-07-20
This book was just ok in the reading area but the shipper was the faster sender I have ever deal with on the Internet.
The book was just way too short, making it like a chapter in size when compared to the other books I have read of this writer. WHAT THE HECK Happen here? I would like to drink more in the area of Micah but here I only got half of a taste.
Semi-interesting .......2007-07-16
I'm not quite sure that we needed a Micah book. He is the least intriguing character in the Anitaverse (aside from our beloved pet Nate, of course), and all that we ever seem to hear about him is that he's got kitty cat eyes, he's as short as Anita, and he's got a big wang.
This would have gotten less stars, but the how-it-came-to-be wereleopard story and the graveyard scene saved it. I found Salvia's questioning humorous and interesting. Franklin's susceptibility to psychic energy was a nice touch.
Overall, for a book that I wasn't looking forward to reading, it wasn't bad at all.

Excellent.......2007-04-30
Simply the best treatment of object oriented design, patterns and practices I have ever read. Extremely well organized and easy to read. Should be in every software engineer's library.
Well done, with one exception.......2007-04-19
First, this book is well written and presents information in a constructive manner. It is well thought out, and is not just another C#/OOP/XP book.
Now for the bad news. One unnecessary oversight is the use of casts and "object" in some examples. Any author writing any C# book since 2005 must know that these idioms should no longer be encouraged. It is unacceptable for a book published in February 2007 to possess this flaw.
Generics, used in moderation, result in cleaner code that is also type-safe, and usually performs better due to the absence of boxing/unboxing. The authors should consider posting alternative examples that favor Generic types and collections on their errata web page. If you purchase this book, you would be well-advised to review the examples with a bias against the use of casts and the word "object".
To be entirely frank, I don't see how other reviewers can justify a five star rating.
Great title for OOP and Agile Methods.......2007-01-16
This book teaches both OOP and agile methods. The two are independent! The authors provide a brief introduction to UML as well. Some prior knowledge of fundamental OOP concepts such as inheritance and polymorphism are assumed. This is not a critical analysis of Agile or OOP. The book does not explain how agile methods can scale. That may be deficiency of agile methods. The book is blunt about Use Case Diagrams: useless (pardon the pun); with which I cannot agree more.
Except for one twenty-person project I worked on, I would advocate Agile for all the smaller projects I have done in recent years. I would highly recommend the book for all C# developers. Java developers would be better of with the previous Java version of the book.
Critical work on design and development.......2006-12-13
This book is amazingly great from start to finish. All the basics of good agile development are covered clearly and sensibly in the first section: what agile is, how to go about it, why testing and planning are so critical, and where refactoring fits in all of this. Design and general patters are hit in the second section, again in a clear, concise, and sensible fashion -- and with common sense thrown in.
The final two sections cover a real-world case study implementation of a payroll system. Here the rubber meets the asphalt: walking through use cases, building transactions based on smartly-chosen patterns, discussion of what patterns make sense where and why, implementation, packaging, and evolution.
I found myself shaking my head in wonder as I read this book and stumbled across one nugget of gold after another. Some bits of goodness pop out in the middle of nowhere simply because the authors are so well-versed in their domain that they're letting fly wisdom even when discussing other topics. An example of this is in the XP pairing session episode where some discussion of increment operator side effects is tossed in the middle of another discussion stream. You read that section once and pass over it, only to do a head check, bounce back and re-read it while nodding your head and saying "Yeah, that's absolutely right and I might not have caught that otherwise."
Another bit of greatness is the chapter on UML. The authors are emphatic about keeping UML tightly in check and using it only in specific cases where it makes clear sense. Mountains of UML diagrams are not the answer; the authors show where a few concise diagrams make perfect sense.
More goodness can be found throughout the book in the gems relating to any number of design issues such as a small example of a problem the authors put forth to students of their various design/patterns courses: build a coffee maker. The authors go through the most common result they see and show the specific problem areas of that solution -- and then show a solution that is amazing in its simplicity, elegance, and maintainability.
This book is a critical read for folks at any level of experience. I'm going to do my best to make sure it gets on the required reading list for developers at my company.
Absolutely required reading for every[...].......2006-11-22
Robert Martin is one of the smartest people I've ever talked with, and he is one of the best technical writers I've ever read.
This book is *the* most comprehensive and most valuable introduction and guide to Agile programming, with a full discussion of Agile principles, the "fourteen practices of eXtreme programming," full discussion of "spiking, splitting, velocity, iteration, test-driven development, refactoring, pair programming, five types of UML diagrams," and how to use all of this in real world .NET development.
There is no doubt in my mind that this book will make you a better programmer, will challenge you, will teach you, will take you beyond what you already know, and will entertain you along the way. Robert is as good as it gets.
This book is required reading. Do not hesitate.

Book Description
In January 2003, Nicholas Sparks and his brother Micah set off on a three-week trip around the world. It was to mark a milestone in their lives, for at 37 and 38 respectively, they were now the only surviving members of their family. As Nicholas and Micah travel the globe, the intimate story of their family unfolds in the details of the untimely deaths of their parents and only sister. Against the backdrop of the wonders of the world, the Sparks brothers band together to heal, to remember, and to learn to live life to the fullest.

Travels with the ugly Americans.......2007-09-25
This is for the book on CD and I just couldn't get through it. From his loud brother yelling at the airport raising his arms up -- the overgrown frat boy -- to the same brother lying down on a Mayan temple and wondering why it's sacred and being offended that he couldn't get his picture taken on it. Of course, Nicholas doesn't call is brother out on this. What would Micah think if someone laid across a U.S. flag and wanted their photo on it?
They mock other cultures, laugh at pottery, are bored with much of the trip ... and the knuckleheads on the trip with them (I can't believe these people are college graduates) don't understand why Spanish is being spoken over the Super Bowl commentary in Peru. "What is he saying," they ask. You don't know what Spanish sounds like and you're stunned it's broadcast on Peruvian TV? Again, Nicholas has no comment on just how clueless these people are. The author without an opinion.
I continued to get offended by the rich frat-kid type brothers as much as Nicholas' boring, dry, uneventful prose. Also, some of the stuff they did as kids was more than just rambunctious, it was violent. (I.E. rolling people up in carpet and then jumping on them.) Of course, Nicholas -- ever the spectator without an opinion -- does nothing. Clearly the immature children barely grew up.
This is a frustrating read on the trip around the world by two arrogant elitists. Count me out.
A built-in fan club.......2007-09-03
It's apparent to me from reading all the hymns to Sparks' book that the legions of fans of his overwrought, over-emotional novels have flooded the reviews portion of this book, too. While I can't completely condemn the book, primarily because I learned something from some of the histories of the places the brothers visited, I would much have preferred more about the places themselves--NOT the brothers' reactions to them. Other reviewers have commented on the "Ugly American" aspects of their behavior, so there is no need for me to do it, suffice it to say that I agree with those reviewers.
I was touched by their grief over the losses of their parents, but since the children were adults by this time, I also wanted to say, "Get over it," people die and we move on. Sister Dana's death affected me much more, since her lingering death was faced with such strength.
This book has less of the tear-jerker writing style of Sparks' novels, but he still likes to stick in the "kicker line" at times, particularly after a death: "Dana was thirty-three years old" and "It was just the two of us now. Brothers." (The latter word on a line by itself.) Sparks may laugh all the way to the bank at those of us who criticize his writing style, but such obvious appeal to emotions has always struck me as unsubtle and contrived.
Nicholas Sparks best book so far!!!!.......2007-08-21
This is a memoir, unlike his other books, but it is by far the best he's ever written!!!
Nicholas finds a trip on line for 3 weeks around the world. He decides to take his brother Micah and it becomes a trip down memory lane. The sadness, excitement, and joy of their life stories are unremarkable! It seems unreal that someone can have this much grief.
You will LOVE this book!!!!
A good read.......2007-08-19
I've read quite a few memoirs, and this one was quite enjoyable. You know the gist of it from the description/s above: Sparks recounts his childhood while on a trip with his brother. While some parts of the trip were a little dull (that's okay, they were also bored with some of their trip!), it has everything you could want in a good read -- honesty, humor, sadness, triumph, etc.
If you like memoirs -- and even if you don't -- I think you will like this one! I recommend it.

Book Description
Learn practical guidelines for designing and deploying a scalable BGP routing architecture
- Up-to-date coverage of BGP features like performance tuning, multiprotocol BGP, MPLS VPN, and multicast BGP
- In-depth coverage of advanced BGP topics to help design a complex BGP routing architecture
- Practical design tips that have been proven in the field
- Extensive configuration examples and case studies
BGP Design and Implementation focuses on real-world problems and provides not only design solutions, but also the background on why they are appropriate and a practical overview of how they apply into a top-down design. The BGP protocol is being used in both service provider and enterprise networks. The design goals of these two groups are different, leading to different architectures being used in each environment. The title breaks out the separate goals, and resulting solutions for each group to assist the reader in further understanding different solution strategies.
This book starts by identifying key features and functionality in BGP. It then delves into the topics of performance tuning, routing policy development, and architectural scalability. It progresses by examining the challenges for both the service provider and enterprise customers, and provides practical guidelines and a design framework for each. BGP Design and Implementation finishes up by closely looking at the more recent extensions to BGP through Multi-Protocol BGP for MPLS-VPN, IP Multicast, IPv6, and CLNS.
Each chapter is generally organized into the following sections: Introduction, Design and Implementation Guidelines, Case Studies, and Summary.

What an awesome book!.......2006-02-26
This book answered so many questions I had about how the Internet works and how enterprises can use BGP in their networks. The writing style is clear and a pleasure to read. I did not notice any errors or typos. This is one of the best Cisco Press books I've read. The material covered is a logical extension (fill-the-gaps) for the knowledge one gains when studying BGP as part of the CCNP/CCDP BSCI exam. The case studies for enterprise BGP core design and Internet connectivity were one of the most interesting and useful real-world scenarios one can strive to implement. Same for the service provider examples. One caution however, this is not "beginner" material. One would greatly benefit from having a CCNP-level understanding of BGP prior to attacking this book.
Advanced BGP Implementation for ISPs.......2006-01-31
I purchased this book both to supplant my knowledge of BGP and as a resource for my CCIE studies. I found the book to be of value more towards practical implementations of BGP. This book is geared toward a high-level architecture - not if only needing to design a 10 node BGP community. One down side is there are not that many configs. On the flip side, nearly every page either has a diagram or show output. One chapter of value is Chapter 8, which focuses on Route Reflection and Confederations. The book also makes good use of Regular Expressions (pg 110) and route conditions - something that is sorely missing in CiscoPress cannon. The last few chapters dive into support for multiprotocol extensions (MPLS VPNs and IPv6). While, upon reflection, I don't believe this book is a necessary tool for the CCIE, it is certainly a book worthy of it's title.
I give this book 4 pings out of 5:
!!!.!

Outstanding, PRACTICAL BGP Book!.......2004-09-02
I would just like to add my comments to the list of reviews: if you work with BGP this book is essential! What makes this book unique is that it is intended for the real-world, production environment engineer, with outstanding results. Personally, I have used this book on two major projects with excellent results; I am sure I would not have been able to find this type of information, knowledge in any single place - if at all - since as another reviewer noted, it distills years of practical experience into a well organized, accessible format. Again, my thanks to Mssrs. Zhang and Bartell for a truly outstanding, practical book that has saved me hours of work, research. Highly recommended!!
Real world BGP - advanced solutions.......2004-04-20
This book provides an excellent reference for understanding advanced BGP designs and implementations. It expands on the general BGP functionality and configuration covered in other BGP books like Internet Routing Architectures (ISBN: 157870233X). If you need a general BGP book or are just starting to learn BGP, start with Internet Routing Architectures to learn about BGP then use this book to understand how to use BGP.
Advanced BGP design concepts are presented in a logical flow and practical design scenarios are included to help you understand how and why the concept is deployed. In addition to advanced BGP designs, topics covered are performance tuning, policy control, Enterprise and Service Provider design guidelines, MPLS VPN, Multicast and IPv6. These are topics not clearly discussed in Cisco documentation with this same emphasis on learning advanced BGP concepts. My only wish (not a complaint in any way) is that a chapter or appendix was included as a general BGP review for reference. Maybe in the 2nd edition as the book is updated? Kudos to the authors and Cisco Press for compiling this information in such a useful and readable book! Highly recommend!!

Terrific ethics text for non-IT managers and decision-makers.......2000-10-20
I teach a graduate class in Information Technology in the Public Sector, in the M.S. in Public Administration program at a major university in southern California. I selected this text for my class because I found it to be an excellent, wide-ranging and deep exploration of a host of ethical issues dealing with information technology for non-computer majors. While not every article was directly relevant to my class (which is made up of current and future managers of public sector organizations), the book is easy to read and has a "friendly" style that draws you into the articles. Some articles are only a few pages while others are quite long. This text has been very appreciated by my students and the articles in it have been the source of many in-class discussions and debates. Overall: Outstanding!

Great Commute.......2007-05-25
I commute 4x a week to work, which is roughly 130 miles round trip (but very worth every mile), and I am always looking for books on CD to listen to on the ride. This story was wonderful to listen to; it made the drive fly by. I found myself excited to get in my car for my trip back and forth, just to hear the next chapter and adventure. The stories of Nicholas Sparks' childhood were my favorite part.
Three Weeks with my Brother.......2006-11-10
Excellent memoir. Kept my attention the entire book and you really felt for the characters. I love all of Nicholas Sparks' fiction books, but this one, you got to know Nicholas Sparks' and read about his interesting life. My husband loved it, too. Very, very good read. Highly recommend!
Excellent.......2006-01-19
As i was traveling with my boyfriend to Florida to visit with my family i acciedntly bought this book. i meant to buy something else by Nicholas Sparks but it just so happens that is was Three weeks with my brother. I dont not have any brothers and up until this point i didnt think that the realastionships between brothers and sisters could be so close. I loved how this book tied in the relationship that the two brothers had as well as the relationship with the whole family. I myself have not done too much traveling around the world and loved the insight that the book gave me. I actually have looked into a trip to see some of the locations that the two brothers went to.
This book was very inspirational. It allowed me to want to connect more with my family as well as my surroundings. I loved it......
Very Emotional.......2005-08-30
It took me a while to get into the autobiography of Nicholas Sparks, but if you can get past the beginning, it is a very emotional story. I listened to it while I was driving and I was tearing up a few times, which isn't too good while driving, LOL. I think this would actually make a good movie.
Three Weeks With My Brother (CD edition).......2004-12-19
This is one of the most wonderful, inspirational, and moving books that I have read. At first, I didn't realize that the authors were Nicholas Sparks, author of The Notebook and Message In A Bottle, among other best selling books, and his brother. I hope this doesn't give anything away except that I am kinda dumb when it comes to remembering authors and titles. The book is really an autobiography covering Nick and his entire family. He covers their many trials and tribulations and still manages to see the good that came out of what for me and others, I suppose, would be absolutely devastating and horrible things to happen. The descriptions of his family members, especially his wife, are outstanding and again food for thought and inspiration. We see how ordinary people can be extraordinary when you know them better.
I listened to this book on CD while driving alone to and from Florida and in a pretty deep depression not being helped much by medications. The CD was really selected because of the travel theme. I love individual travelogues that have a literary and philosophical point of view and have visions of writing something similar myself.
While Three Weeks With My Brother could easily be depressing to some, especially like me, suffering from severe depression and still grieving for a loved one, I found it to be both sad and uplifting as Nick and his brother talked out their life, including the ups and downs. They spoke from the vantage point of both being on what anyone would say is a material up, but they carried with them memories of severe tragedies in their lives, mostly brought about through their unusually strong family ties and love.
I feel the CD edition might be better than the print version since the narrator is so good and the book is both interior thoughts of the author and many conversations. I wondered if they were recorded or all taken from notes, but they were certainly believable.
Anyone facing tough times in their personal life should read this book or listen to the audio. You will be inspired, I feel, if you go to the end. You might be inspired, as I have been, to try once again to take a long trip to think over and contemplate my life. Now I do this in the dead of night at home, making my neighbors think I am either a recluse or some type of secret agent.

Worth your money.......2006-01-31
McComiskey's 3-volume set on the "minor prophets" is outstanding, the best I have read. The exegesis is carefully done within the historical context and with a high view of biblical inspiration. The insights offered are rich, bringing out the many wonderful word-plays that the English reader misses. All three of these volumes are well worth their price.
Good!.......2005-12-04
It is a great tool for a study in minor prophets.
Only complaint about this edition it have too much blank spaces on pages. Are they left for study notes? Or product dimensions are chosen too big?
Review of The Minor Prophets, Vol. 1.......2005-10-06
I would have given the book a 5-start rating based on the sections on Hosea and Joel, but the expository commentary on Amos was not as good. Many references were made to "types of Christ" and also to passages in the New Testament at the expense of explaining the material at hand within the cultural context and the historical setting. On the other hand, the sections on Hosea and Joel were outstanding and extremely helpful in preparing a Sunday school lesson. I would buy this book again for the sections on Hosea and Joel (it is still a good bargain) and make sure to find another informative commentary on Amos.
The Minor Prophets.......1999-12-24
The Minor Prophets succesfully meets the expository and exegetical needs of students of the minor prophets. The amount of lexical and syntactial analyses of the Hebrew text are measured appropriately and do not dominate the exegetical portion of the commentary. Students of the original languages are aided by the scholars' thorough research; still, the authors leave enough room for readers to deal on their own with the important grammatical issues which surround the text. Where there are uncertainties as to the meaning of a particular word, such is clearly stated. Thankfully, several solutions are proposed nonetheless. Furthermore, sufficient attention is given to historical and cultural issues, issues which may influence one's interpretation of the text. Overall, the commentary is very well-written, easily read, and is sure to be of great benefit to any student of the Old Testament.
A great Commentary that takes The Word of God seriously.......1999-07-09
The commentary is devided in two sections on every text. 1)the exegetical part with the crux interpretum, then 2) the expository part.
I think this is a great way of writing a commentary because not all pastors and preachers know hebrew and if u don't a very exegetical commentary is rather booring to read. This commentary is great to read even if u don't know a word of hebrew. The exegetical part are good and explores the text very good. It gives you a feeling of the hebrew language and increase your understanding of the text.
McComiskey has really succeded in making the minor prophets understandable and he is almost narrative in his apporach to the minor prophets.
it is truly a great commentary and I know I will use it a great deal in my ministry and therefor I will strongly recommend it!

Much better than the previous volume. . ........2004-03-18
. . ."Micah - Malachi" is a good, solid Protestant (but not dogmatically so) commentary which concentrates strongly on the integrity of the text. I used this book as a secondary reference for a Minor Prophets course I'm teaching and found it quite readable and useful. I was particularly pleased with Micah and Nahum.

This book was born out of Waltke's deep desire to communicate the message of Micah. Originally he had wanted to write it in the Baker series commentaries, and realized that the information that he had was too large, and simplified it for the Baker Exegetical Commentary on the Minor Prophets.
There is no better commentary so far that deals with the book of Micah from an evangelical perspective.

Handbook Of Induction Heating Review.......2007-05-14
Was hoping for a good theoretical text on induction heating. What i received instead was examples of induction heating in the industry promoting one company offering the product.
I'd like to send the book back for a refund!
