Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description

Among the masterpieces of world literature, perhaps the least familiar to English readers is the Persian book of kings (Shahnameh, in Persian). This prodigious national epic, composed by the poet Ferdowsi between 980 and 1010, tells the story of ancient Persia, beginning in the mythic time of Creation and continuing forward to the Arab-Islamic invasion in the seventh century. the Lion and the Throne covers the first third of the Shahnameh and is followed by two volumes to complete the epic. Brilliantly translated and magnificently illustrated, these volumes give English-language readers access to a world of vanished wonders. The origins of civilizationƒthe notion of kingship...tenderness, a longing for justice, and social order...the first kings felled by foolish pride...demons on the throneƒspiritual heroes and their martial virtues...mythical birdsƒromance and passion - these are some of the threads woven together to form the rich tapestry of ancient Persia. Translator Dick Davis combines his skills as a poet and a Ferdowsi scholar to evoke the metrical music, impact, and nuance of Ferdowsi's monumental poem. Breathtaking miniatures from the finest Persian shahnameh manuscripts of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries heighten the emotional impact of the text. A short afterword by the eminent art historian Stuart Cary Welch, curator emeritus of Islamic Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, unravels the history behind these paintings.

I have been looking for a version of the shah nameh that both adults and children could enjoy, for years. I was first exposed to these stories as a child by my grandfather and I have never forgotten them. The Heroism, Romance and Tragedy that one is exposed to in these stories is truly exhilarating. It is simply but lyrically translated. The book also has beautiful reproductions of the persian paintings on the shah nameh which are an added treat.
I eagerly await the two volumes which are yet to come.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful!!.......2003-01-07

In this first of three planned volumes, Dick Davis begins his effort to provide a fairly broad translation of the Shahnameh. He effectively utilizes the prosimetrum form, a mixture of verse and prose (naqqali in Farsi), where verse is used to accentuate periods of heightened tension.

In addition to being a fine literary accomplishement, this series of volumes is quite beautiful and heavily illustrated throughout with reprints from 16th and 17th century manuscripts. The books are very sturdy and make for excellent display.

5 out of 5 stars in fairness to the publisher.......2000-09-07

I recently saw this book as well as the second volume in the planned three-volume set in the gift shop at the Sackler Gallery in Washington, D.C., in connection with an exhibit of art work from various Shahnameh manuscripts currently on display. In all fairness to the publisher, it should be pointed out that this is a gloriously illustrated art book, not simply a text. The full-color enlargements of miniature fragments from medieval Persian manuscipts are breathtakingly beautiful, and the high price no doubt reflects the fact that this book was very expensive to produce. It is exquisitely produced and for those who can afford it well worth the cost. The rest of us should urge our public libraries to acquire it!

4 out of 5 stars Exquisite!.......2000-01-22

The Book of Kings, or Shahnameh in Persian, is a compilation of ancient Iranian stories put in Persian verse by Ferdowsi in the 10th Century. Its earliest stories describe the period from the golden age of Elamite civilization to the birth of the prophet Zoroaster. Despite its blend of fantasy and history, this book has been Iran's emotional link to its past for a thousand years. The book itself survived the incredible devastation of the Mongol invasian to become a testament to patriotism and a text book on leadership. This translation includes some magnificent works of manuscript art/calligraphy from the version commissioned by the first two Safavid shahs. (A chapter by Stuart Welch masterfully analyzes the history and techniques of the artwork.) To grasp the moral power of the Book of Kings on Iranians one should recall that its stories have been used by rulers and revolutionaries alike to justify their actions, or inspire reaction, for centuries. The story of Kaveh the Ironsmith (the first non-introductory story of this volume) was used by the revolutionaries to inspire Iranians to rise up against the monarchy in 1979. I for one am very happy to finally see a complete English translation of this international literary classic, and can hardly wait for Volumes 2 & 3. My only criticism of this edition is its price. I hope Mr. Davis did not want to have this compete with the Houghton Shahnameh for exclusivity!

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars A good series.......2006-08-21

Instead of writing a review for each of the four books, I'll just sum up my feelings for the entire series here. The characters of this series really come alive to the reader. I found myself really liking some and hating others and then changing my mind again. The best parts, for me, are the ones involving a warrior and his lir. I've never felt so sad for characters in a book as when a warrior is faced with the loss of his lir; never felt such joy as when a boy meets his lir for the first time and is made whole. That is what makes this series (for me). It made me want a lir of my own.
As for rating the individual books:
Shapechanger's Song: 3 Stars
Legacy of the Wolf: 4 Stars
Children of the Lion: 3 1/2 Stars
The Lion Throne: 3 Stars
I give the series as a whole: 4 stars

4 out of 5 stars Unique, Beautiful, Animal.......2006-05-24

I actually own the 3 separate volumes of the story. In a sea of sci-fi and fantasy that all blurs together over time, this story stands out.

5 out of 5 stars Great ending of the great cycle.......2004-01-12

Yup, I bought it, Yup, I red it...and I'm almost speechless!! Ms Roberson's Cheysuli cycle is great. And Lion Throne was a chance for me to read last 2 novels, because here in Poland only first 4 were available in bookstores.I bought The Lion Throne and Pride of Princess here in Amazon.com (too bad you haven't Daughter of The Lion anymore)
The story of the Cheysuli and their way for the Prophecy of the Firstborn, ends the way I'couldn't even imagine.I was wandering how will the author joins heir to Homana throne and an Ihlini witch, but the way she did it was so unbelivable, that 3 days after ending the book I was still thinking about it:)
All and all, I recommend it all fantasy (and shapechanging) fans:D
P.S. Sorry for my poor English, but I'm still impressed by this novels:D

3 out of 5 stars Hear me roar!.......2003-09-23

I read Omnibus One to Omnibus Four within a two month period, and the books kept me enthralled during my train rides going to and from work.

I found the story engaging, true to the nuances of human nature, true to the consequences of extraordinary circumstances (as far as fantasy goes, of course!), and realistically imperfect in everything else, yet it was ineffably a work filled with mysterious cultures, magnificent realms and sheer enchantment. I felt involvement with the characters: loving them; hating them; grieving for them; wishing them ill...

It is true that when you finish Omnibus 2 you begin to see a pattern in the plot, but I thought this a necessary element in the shaping of true characters and events. The differences lie in the characters and the circumstances surrounding them after all.

I found that Omnibus 1 ("Shapechangers" and "The Song of Homana"), Omnibus 3 ("Pride of Princes" and "Daughter of the Lion") and the first part of Omnibus 4 ("Flight of the Raven") are the best of the series. The rest of it could be called necessary to "complete the link". The last one, for me, served as an Epilogue, to tie up everything else, but it's still an interesting read. I'd like to give the entire series a 3.5, but the stars won't let me.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful and Engrossing Read.......2002-10-01

This series is one of my favorite. It takes you over and each character lives on in your mind, even after setting the book down. If you like first-rate fantasy with wonderful plot and characters, this is a "must read."

One of the best books ever written about lawyers, judges and prosecutors. Anyone familier with the legal system will find that little has changed in 400 years. Catherine Bowen was a fine writer and an excellent "popular" historian. Her biography of Lord Coke not only describes a critical period in English history, but also illuminates the origins of the concepts of ordered liberty that eventually found their way into the US Constitution. Anyone interested in either law or Anglo/American history would enjoy this book.

I loved this book, both for its history of the period and its history of English Common Law, with Sir Edward's role in the formation of that Law. Couldn't put it down.

5 out of 5 stars The patron saint of ordered liberty.......2006-07-23

The Anglosaxon/anglophone world, and indirectly, most of Europe and the "free world" circa 2006, owe the unquestioned primacy of ordered liberty more to Coke than to any other single individual. For, he was not only a mere academic proponent, interpreter and "codifier" of the "ancient" liberties of the realm, but stood his ground against the crown - against Elizabeth or against her successors, at great peril to his own estate and person. From the petition of right in 1628, arose the English Bill of Rights and eventually, the American Bill of Rights. Coke's majesty as an oracle of the law, lent awe and credence (to put it mildly) to his brazenly specious yet effective claims of many "ancient" liberties pre-dating the norman invasion itself. (i.e to the days of "ordeals").

From a layman's perspective ( I have no formal legal training) this is "popular" history rather than a scholarly narrative, though great research has obviously gone into this effort to keep it flowing effortlessly and simple/"popular".

If there is a complaint, its about the jarring theme running throughout the book - the relentless character assassination of Bacon. I wonder if recent research has somehwat alleviated his perceived treachery to Essex and his allegedly ingratiating, insinuating courtly ways to gain influence and power. This is no paen for Coke either; we get to see the shortcomings of Coke's own character, for e.g his outbursts during Raleigh's trial for treason.

Overall, a must-read for any lover of liberty; and a treat if you're an Anglophile.
