1 out of 5 stars Book is a joke.......2007-10-02

This book is supposed to help with anger management? I am open to listening to mythical stories about dudes who lived a couple of thousand years ago as much as the next guy, but in an anger management book? Sin is causing all my anger? Wow didn't know that. I do have a better idea of something that makes me angry now, religious mythology passing itself off as a self-help book. Get this book over in the religious section with the rest of the fairy tales.

I wouldn't have been so upset about this if the book had something marked on it saying that it was religious in nature. I don't normally don't read such garbage and leave that to others who do believe in such things, but to slip it in and waste my time!!! Is this how you indoctrinate people in your beliefs?

Oh well, there's plenty of other anger management books out there. I will be more careful next time I select something like this and get something actually useful.

This book owes me some stars for being such a tremendous waste of time.

I'm sure christians will get upset at hearing this, but I'm sure you'll turn the other cheek.

If you need me I'll be over here with my "Sin"

1 out of 5 stars Should be in the religious section, not pyschology.......2007-07-19

The cover and description of the book do not express that Les Carter and Frank Minirth are really only interested in appealing to Christians or people who want to convert to Christianity. I look to books like this for scientific reasoning, but was greatly put off when it started quoting Jesus on page 11 (after prompting the reader to complete workbook questions on previous pages therefore making the book unreturnable.) Anyway, I think it's a shame the authors do not put "For Christians Only" on the cover so at least their book would only end up in the hands they intended.

What a great book. I wish I had had this book when I was in my 20's, it would have saved me alot of family and work problems. Finally I am finding positive ways to deal with my anger and finding out why I have had such anger problems for all my life. If you have anger problems get this book. They also have one for depression and my wife went through it and it is just as awesome as this one. Don't wait any longer! Get control of your anger and depression.

Not the best workbook I have seen. It is not very interactive either. It also has a lot of references to religion.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Aspergers Syndrome Emotional difficulties.......2007-06-05

An excellent book, good practical advice. A must for anyone involved with teaching a child with Aspergers Syndrome. The first few chapters breakdown in simple talk what Aspergers People have the most difficulties with. It points out the areas that are considered "normal" for Aspergers syndrome, and that your child is not the only child having these difficulties. I found this particularly useful to show to teachers and principals who are either too busy or lack the inclination to learn about the Syndrome.

The next part of the book explains the rage process, what to look out for, where the teaching zones are and where it is best left until the child has calmed down.

The latter stage of the book gives solutions to the issues that result in Tantrums and meltdowns.

A must for anyone teaching Aspergers children and a great help to parents.

This is a must have book. I have purchased a cpoy for every teacher, guidance counselor & admininstrator that comes in contact with my son on a daily basis.

This book not only gives people the insite on how to work with someone with Aspergers.. it also gives them the tools to do it. All of my sons teachers photocopy the charts & use them.

I have noticed a drastic change in how school personnel deal with my son after they read the book... it makes for a much better school environment for my son & those around him.

5 out of 5 stars If I could own only one book on Asperger Syndrome..........2006-10-11

Honestly, this is a must have as far as I am concerned. It is a small book, but it is full of essential information that can help parents and professionals understand how to help individuals with Asperger Syndrome reach their potential. I have recommended this book to many parents and professionals in my work as an educational specialist and find it helpful when working as a member of an IEP team. Busy professionals and parents who advocate for children with Asperger Syndrome will find themselves referring to this book again and again.

Electra Lark, Temple's spirited landlady, has dragged her to the con. Accused of murder after a woman is found strangled with an official Red Hat Sisterhood scarf, Electra begs Temple to clear her name by posing as a pink-hatter, an under-fifty member of the organization.
Louie and his partner in Midnight Investigations Inc., Midnight Louise, join the hunt for the killer at the Crystal Phoenix. They find old friends already there, including C-movie actress Savannah Ashleigh, and her Persian cats, Louie's ex-love, the Divine Yvette, and her sister Solange.
As Temple and Louie dig under all the makeup and shopping bags it becomes clear that a whole lot of folks want to crush or cash in on the red-hot rage of female empowerment that is the Red Hat Sisterhood.

I've read this series since it started and still enjoy every one of them. The story stays fresh and entertaining even as the core cast of characters stays the same. That takes talent! I can't wait for the next book to come out!

I love the Midnight Louie series and wish she would get them out more often! Of course, I am a "cat lover" and I just love Louie's personality - a little bit arrogant!

Here's the best part...Louie has black fur and four legs and he can out-think and out-smart any human on this planet. This is witty, clever and heartwarming for any cat lover who loves mysteries as well as anyone looking for some clever twists and turns to keep them guessing about "Who Done It."

Louie; I don't know what I'd do without you...keep on rocking!!

5 out of 5 stars Go Louie!.......2007-05-13

Premise: This the 19th book in the Midnight Louie Mystery series. This volume brings into play the Red Hat Sisterhood - an organization for women over 50 that encourages freedom, fun, and that life is not lost once that benchmark is reached. For PR wiz Temple Barr, this gig should have been a piece of cake - that is until murder enters the scene and Electra Lark, Temple's fun loving landlady is the prime suspect.

Review: For those of you still screaming from the cliff hanger in book 18, you will still be screaming. Aside from some very subtle hints, we still don't know what exactly has happened to Max after the piece of sabotage at the Neon Nightmare club. But there is still plenty going on to keep our minds occupied and away from the happenings with Mr. Max Kinsela. Things continue to heat up between Temple and Matt. Lines have been drawn and crossed! We get info on Electra Lark's past and even get to meet her ex (or is he?). Louie has his own problems, as now that Electra has been fingered for possible murder, it wrecks his plans to get the crew of stray cats (and his Mom) taken in and fed by the neighbors. His daughter (though never proven and he will never admit it), Midnight Louise, harps on him about needing to find out what has happened to Max Kinsela and is not happy Louie's attentions are being split to the Red Hat Murders at hand. And let's not forget Lieutenant Molina, who makes a late but definite flashy entrance as she too continues on her own Max hunt and gets bit as she once more crosses the line of the law. Carole Nelson Douglas once more takes us an a fun ride of all that is Las Vegas and sets us up nicely for what else is soon to come.

5 out of 5 stars Noir Midnight Louie .......2007-05-02

In Las Vegas, Electra Lark volunteers to work security at the Red Hat Sisterhood convention. However, someone proves to have too much zest when an under fifty Red Hat apprentice Pink Lady Oleta Lark is strangled with a purple scarf. The police suspect Electra killed her as witnesses claim she helped the victim set her scarf just right and the women were ex-wives of Elmore Lark.

Electra begs her tenant public relations specialist and renowned amateur sleuth extraordinaire Temple Barr to prove her innocence. With Temple's feline owner Midnight Louie and his Midnight, Inc partner Midnight Louise leading the way, the trio investigates the Red Hat Sisterhood to determine who killed the Pink Lady.

The latest Midnight Louie whodunit is a terrific tale of the fur as, the two cat sleuths work the murder investigation and keep Temple safe. The story line is fast-paced and amusing as the heroes aided by an assortment of cats and people seek to prove Electra's innocence by uncovering the identity of the killer among a horde of aggressive middle age red hatted females and felines. However, as always in Carole Nelson Douglas' cat capers that feline Noir Midnight Louie owns the story.

Book Description

In a host of consecutive bestsellers, Jonathan Kellerman has kept readers spellbound with the intense, psychologically acute adventures of Dr. Alex Delaware–and with excursions through the raw underside of L.A. and the coldest alleys of the criminal mind. Rage offers a powerful new case in point, as Delaware and LAPD homicide detective Milo Sturgis revisit a horrifying crime from the past that has taken on shocking and deadly new dimensions.

Troy Turner and Rand Duchay were barely teenagers when they kidnapped and murdered a younger child. Troy, a remorseless sociopath, died violently behind bars. But the hulking, slow-witted Rand managed to survive his stretch. Now, at age twenty-one, he’s emerged a haunted, rootless young man with a pressing need: to talk–once again–with psychologist Alex Delaware. But the young killer comes to a brutal end, that conversation never takes place.

Has karma caught up with Rand? Or has someone waited for eight patient years to dine on ice-cold revenge? Both seem strong possibilities to Sturgis, but Delaware’s suspicions run deeper . . . and darker. Because fear in the voice of the grownup Rand Duchay–and his eerie final words to Alex: “I’m not a bad person”–betray untold secrets. Buried revelations so horrendous, and so damning, they’re worth killing for.

As Delaware and Sturgis retrace their steps through a grisly murder case that devastated a community, they discover a chilling legacy of madness, suicide, and multiple killings left in its wake–and even uglier truths waiting to be unearthed. And the nearer they come to understanding an unspeakable crime, the more harrowingly close they get to unmasking a monster hiding in plain sight.

Rage finds Jonathan Kellerman in phenomenal form–orchestrating a relentlessly suspenseful, devilishly unpredictable plot to a finale as stunning and thought-provoking as it is satisfying.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Typical Kellerman, interesting, too long, enjoyable.......2007-09-17

Rage is another novel by Jonathan Kellerman featuring psychologist Alex Deleware and police detective Milo Sturgis. Eight years ago, Deleware consulted on a case where two young boys, barely teenagers, brutally murdered a two year old toddler. Delaware has long forgotten about the case until recently, when one of the killers, now 20 and out of prison, calls Delaware and asks for a meeting. The boy doesn't show up for the meeting and Delaware thinks nothing of it, until the boy is found murdered. Now, Delaware joins with Sturgis and they both try and get to the bottom of the case. Delaware, acting as a police consultant, along with Milo first figure the murdered girl's father had done the killing as revenge. Then their trail leas them to a couple of former seminary students who now take in up to 8 foster children at a time.

I listened to the book on CD and found it highly enjoyable. The Kellerman formula is predictable. Milo and Delaware talk back and forth forever about possible theories. This is the way characters are developed and the action is given. Actually, this novel had little action or suspense. The novel consists of interview after interview with different characters. Fans of Kellerman will enjoy rage. New readers might be turned off by his style. This is an average effort from Kellerman.

1 out of 5 stars Really Bad.......2007-09-03

My 2nd book by Kellerman and I can't remember the plot of the first, thankfully. This one does it for me. I thought it was terrible and don't understand how someone could get away with what the perp did for so many years. Wake up people.

I agree with many others, the ending needed finishing. What happened? Where did everyone go?

Skip this one in my opinion.

2 out of 5 stars A bewildering conglomeration of psycho-babble!.......2007-08-04

Troy Turner and Rand Duchay were barely teenagers, little more than children themselves, when they kidnapped and murdered a young child. Troy, clearly the instigator and an evil sociopath lasts mere weeks in prison and receives his just desserts shanked by a fellow inmate. Rand, a somewhat more pathetic slow-witted dysfunctional creature who appears to have been relentlessly drawn into the deed of kidnapping by bad company somehow survives his incarceration. Upon his release he seeks to talk with psychologist, Alex Delaware, whom he encountered briefly during his trial for the murder eight years earlier. Delaware, who only reluctantly agrees to talk with him, is shocked to find Duchay murdered mere minutes before the planned conversation can take place.

"'Rage", an aptly titled psychological thriller, place Delaware and his police colleague, Milo Sturgis, into a complex battle of hide and seek with a brutal, psychopathic serial killer.

In marked, almost stark contrast with some of his current best-selling colleagues such as James Patterson, Jonathan Kellerman has chosen to focus his novels on the psychological aspects of crime - motive, character, deviance, emotion, passion - and "Rage" takes this approach to story-telling to levels beyond any he has previously attempted. So much so, in fact, that the thrill of the story is mostly buried in a web of convoluted, puzzling dialogue between Sturgis and Delaware in which they simply feed off one another in a stacked series of "what-ifs". One dysfunctional misfit after another is introduced, anaylyzed and set up as the possible mastermind of a series of brutal, evil killings. The conversation becomes so dense and the analysis becomes so complex that ultimately the evil devolves into something almost banal and the story is lost in a thicket of psycho-babble.

"Rage" is far from Kellerman's best efforts and ranks as almost boring beside such phenomenal successes as "The Murder Book".

Paul Weiss

2 out of 5 stars Too vague.......2007-08-04

One of the "rules" of the standard mystery novel is that the murder victim has to be someone of importance--as does the killer. One homeless person murdering another homeless person, for example, is sad but not worthy of a mystery novel plot. In the case of this book, none of the victims is of importance, and the killer... There's not much to give away with respect to the denouement, but I'll refrain just the same. Mr. Kellerman does break the "rule" and gets away with it to some degree. I'll give him that.

The problems with the plot are of a different nature. Dr. Delaware and his police detective friend speculate endlessly about what might have happened--and then somehow turn these unsubstantiated speculations into fact. In addition, there are all sorts of "it just so happened that" incidents. Finally, there is no hard evidence that would have convicted anyone, nothing that could stand up in court against vigorous cross examination. As a result, the plot just sort of dribbles down to nothing, and I'm not at all certain who did what and to whom.

The characters are nothing remarkable. The dialogue is good for the most part, but when learning disabled girls talk, they seem much too articulate and introspective. The atmosphere is nothing remarkable, either. There are lots of details, but they do not add up, somehow, to something that grabs the reader's interest. Driving directions, attire, and botany are not, per se, atmosphere.

In summary, this is a book with a vague plot, with a vague ending, one that will not long remain in a reader's psyche.

4 out of 5 stars Really Good.......2007-05-18

Keeps you going to get to the end. Another great mystery from Jonathan Kellerman. Although not his very best, it still has enough twists and turns to keep you guessing. I recommend to any mystery buff.

Book Description

A groundbreaking examination of the psychology of homosexuality, why it leads to shame over one's identity and how to overcome it

The gay male world today is characterized by seductive beauty, artful creativity, flamboyant sexuality, and, encouragingly, unprecedented acceptability in society. Yet despite the progress of the recent past, gay men still find themselves asking, "Are we really better off?"

The inevitable byproduct of growing up gay in a straight world continues to be the internalization of shame, a shame gay men may strive to obscure with a faade of beauty, creativity, or material success. Drawing on contemporary psychological research, the author's own journey to be free of anger and of shame, as well as the stories of many of his friends and clients, The Velvet Rage outlines the three distinct stages to emotional well-being for gay men. Offering profoundly beneficial strategies to stop the insidious cycle of avoidance and self-defeating behavior, The Velvet Rage is an empowering book that will influence the public discourse on gay culture, and positively change the lives of gay men who read it.

5 out of 5 stars Another self-help book this is not!.......2007-09-20

From the first day I came out 6 years ago to today, I've been all too familiar with the LGBT self-help books displayed prominently on bookstore shelves. For 6 years, I've been disappointed with what I have found. I find them to be repetitive, lacking nuance, and not very insightful. So, I've found myself going about my life left only to my own personal insights and experiences. Until now.

The Velvet Rage has given word to the countless abstract notions and ideas of my sexuality that have been floating around in my head for years. The book is insightful, manageable and interesting. I see deep parallels between myself and the words on the pages of this work. I truly suggest it for those looking for a deeper understanding of themselves and in filling the emptiness they may still feel as a gay man. I already feel I am on my way to a more fulfilled, peaceful and authentically happy life! And, no one even paid me to write this review!

5 out of 5 stars Read the book twice.......2007-09-05

I've read it cover-to-cover and I've started to read it again simply because I was taken aback by how much I actually related to the experiences of the author and the patients he's treated over the years.
I cried in certain parts and has made me think as to how I could have handled things differently in my past and present with the people I love. I also realized "what was I even thinking??".....that thought rang right through me.

Its made me think an aweful lot about me, my behavior, how I see people, trust and those around me now and those that will be in the near future. I realize that I have a lot to learn, but I have always stated it back then and even now that when you don't listen to your gut, that's when you get screwed royally. When you do however, in the end you know what you are doing is right. But in this case I'm learning that doing and saying anything was it all worth it? The price I paid cost me dearly.
I just have to figure out how to ACT not REACT and I'm learning how to do that.

I'm in the process of "letting go" of years of sheer pain and heading towards the road of healing. It's going to take me a while but I know I'll find it. This book along with the struggles I've had over the past 3 years has really been helpful.
I've shared this book with one other person whom I consider my best friend and care deeply about after a good friend of mine that I've known over 10 years suggested I read it. I think EVERY person out there needs to read this book INCLUDING gay men.
We NEED to understand each other and heal ourselves before we find each other.

5 out of 5 stars A Contemporary Must Read for Anyone.......2007-07-27

The Velvet Rage was recommended to me by Davis Mallory of MTV's Real World: Denver, and I have to say this book is a must read. Author Alan Downs of Santa Fe, New Mexico, puts primary components of the homosexual lifestyle into perspective for a myriad of readers. The book is divided into three stages based on shame, rage, and contentment with a life lived by so many males. Downs, a clinical psychologist, provides detailed personal faux pas and timeless reflections of arguably truthful testimony from some of his own clientèle. His introduction will grab any reader immediately as he opts to describe the contemporary gay lifestyle as being "a culture of [our] own." He ends The Velvet Rage with his longest chapter delineating 10 profound life lessons applicable to gay men who are cycling shame continuously. Gay males will find this book invigoratingly refreshing while the heterosexual counterparts will grasp abundant information and practical knowledge for personal growth and development in understanding the homosexual male characterization that Downs has offered. Quite frankly, The Velvet Rage should be used as a resource for educational and entertainment purposes, but hopefully, all readers will gain a more positive outlook on life after reading Downs' book.

4 out of 5 stars Something for Everyone...Sort Of.......2007-07-16

As a gay white man, I found a lot in the book that I could say "yeah, that's right". about. At the same time, The absence of the mention of the experience of women, people of color or of pratically anyone else who was not also a white middle class or wealthy gay male was missing from the text.

I still think that this is a book to read...and re-read. Most of what the author talks about are universal issues...with a gay slant. It can be read by anyone who has grown up in in a straight WHITE man's world, including many (most?) straight white men.

Yes, my growing up experience has been difficult - and there are a plethora of books out there that focus on growing up female, non-white, poor, overweight, etc, etc. I'd say give this book a good read, and "fill in the blanks" whenever the references to gay men don't apply to you. It is well written and has many good anecdotes, suggestions and insights - enough to make me want to look up and see what else the author has written.

4 out of 5 stars Insightful Reading.......2007-06-27

I really enjoyed reading this book, once I was done I had both my parents read it as well. They said it helped them a great deal to understand me a lot better, not only now, but why they couldn't always "reach me" when I was younger.

This book is vintage Wilbur Smith, filled with twisted events, suspense and action. But at the same time he has been able to protray the pains of the black population and the deprivation they went through. "Rage" captures the rage of the black population that has led to the long struggle against apartheid.

5 out of 5 stars Rage.......2001-04-11

Wilbur Smith never fails to capture me with his writings. Rage is a wonderful depiction of a whole different world in South Africa. While he changes a few details it is still a very good indication of a life that many Americans do not understand. While entertaining us with his magnificent choice of words he is also educating us on a life style or self-being of the South African person. I actually find his books very helpful in understanding the world my fiance was born. When someone asks me why I love his work so much my reply is simply, "I can see his words" Absolutely wonderful.

5 out of 5 stars Gripping.......2001-04-09

Rage is based on Nelson Mandella's life. Wilbur Smith bases all of his books on fact, so you learn about the cultures of each of the tribes, politics, etc. Only his characters are fictional. Rage is a TERRIFIC READ! The book, River God, is the only exception. Buy it--I promise you won't be able to put it down!

3 out of 5 stars A little disapointed.......2000-10-30

I am an avid reader of Wilbur Smith's but found this book to be one of his worst. it did not have me turning the pages as quickly as some of his other books. This book felt more like a history lesson than a compelling wilbur smith adventure novel. He is mister entertainment when it comes to adventure writing but seems to get the reader caught up in a nations struggle with inequality and the various issues asssociated with it than encapsulating the reader with a trade mark concorde story line.

Things go too slow and the characters are developed at times too slow and at times with too much depth. This is a well written book with a great deal of history in it, however, if you started reading this book you will find it still sitting around you some weeks later. That is because it doesn't have the necessary elements to be a complete page turner.

It's hard to believe that the stories in Plane Insanity, the hilarious book by Elliott Hester, are true. But they are. Before you read even a single page, you know you're in for a wild ride just from the subtitle: A Flight Attendant's Tales of Sex, Rage, and Queasiness at 30,000 Feet. Hester has encountered just about everything in his 15 years of flying the skies or "riding tin," and he recounts these laugh-out-loud encounters with plenty of attitude and self-deprecating humor. Not to spoil the fun, but a few juicy tidbits include Hester as the hapless victim of a child's projectile vomit, chasing a sparrow around the cabin, mistakenly putting a woman on the wrong flight, and recalling the unfathomable account of an inebriated man defecating atop a liquor cart, to the horror of passengers and crew. Just when you think the stories can't get anymore outlandish he outdoes himself with the titillating antics of amorous couples who vie for membership in the infamous Mile High Club. And did our Mr. Hester himself ever become a member of this elite club? You'll have to read the book to find that out. Believe me, you'll be glad you did--this is the one of the year's funniest reads. --Jill Fergus

1 out of 5 stars Plane boring!.......2007-08-21

This book is a rehash of old stories. Nothing new or insightful. A far better read is Babylon Air.

Plane Insanity is very funny in the first 5 or so pages but loses the plot after than and becomes a standard review of items you have either experienced or read about in the papers.

Most disappointing read this year!

2 out of 5 stars Change job.......2007-05-27

Half the stories are not funny and there is way too much complaining about the job. Mr. Hester is, though, a skillful writer and you can read thru the whole book to end up wondering why you did not throw it away sooner. Maybe Mr.Hester should quit flying and become a full time writer.
Fit to read while waiting for your delayed flight.

2 out of 5 stars Great idea, but. . . .......2006-12-20

The author writes what could be a fascinating book, but he seems to defend the airline industry at the expense of the passengers. His section on the 'Mile High Club' could have been much better. Granted, the force and appeal of sex is part of nature, but graphic descriptions aren't necessary.

If he writes a regular column, I would be suspect as to the content of his column. No doubt that we humans are funnier than anybody, but the author didn't have to be so bitter about passengers. I have met some flight attendants who were very pleasant, and some who were rude, and most who were pleasantly distant. It's unfortunate that Reagan and the Congress chose to deregulate the airline industy, it has suffered since then.

But the author backs away from that, concentrating on a mish-mash of disconnected stories.

5 out of 5 stars Extremly Funny, Gross, & Entertaining!.......2006-06-25

A friend of mine wrote a review on this book back in 2002. His review is titled, "In the Friendly Skies," by D. Clancy. Mr. Clancy has written a lot of reviews on here and was a very wonderful person, who passed away 2 yrs ago, and is extremely missed by friends, family, and the theater community in Portland, Or, where he was a very active member. He also worked in the airline industry for some time and I remember him telling me about this book and how wonderfully funny it was and I never forgot it!

This book was tremendously funny and very well written. Some stories are extremely sickening so not for the weak of stomach, some stories make you mad on how the public treat flight attendants, and some make you downright cry tears of humor! I LOVED this book! You won't believe these tales of the sky especially since they are true. I intend to purchase this for my collection of favorites.

3 out of 5 stars Interesting.......2006-03-13

I thought the content in this book was quite informational as I have never know anyone who was a flight attendant. It was quite comical and believable as to how some humans act under some extreme circumstances. For the price, I would recommend this to anyone wanting a light read.

5 out of 5 stars Good Book.......2006-12-09

tookie lets you know a lot in this book on how it all got started. i always wondered how in LA it was many gangs but mostly bloods and crips. this book lets you know about the crips. but, then you can pretty much figure things out with the bloods. this is a good book to read to me. he started it him and some other guys. then new comers take it to another level. usually how it always go.

1 out of 5 stars Brian C.......2006-06-04

The other reviews are correct in that you have to read this book with an open mind. It appears all the reviews for this book were written by followers and friends of Tookie. Like I said, you have to really keep an open mind when reading it, knowing that it was written by a murderer who claims redemption but doesn't admit to his crime. Even the things he does admit, and profit from, lilke forming the Crips, he never fully achieves redemption. If so, then he would have cooperated with law enforcement to help dismantle the very gangs he preaches to children about not joining. He has not even so much as given up any other gang-bangers that he witnessed committing crimes. Its clear to see where his loyalties still lie. If I had to do it again, I would borrow the book to read so I wouldn't have to spend my money on it.

5 out of 5 stars An insight and education you won't find in any school.......2006-02-26

This book is seperated into two sections. The first half being, Blue Rage and the second, Black redemption. Their's different titled chapters compiled into each section. The first half of the book is about Stan's life from being a child in Lousiana until he gets arrested in South Central Los Angeles in 1979 for the four murders he was convicted of commiting. The second half is about his educational and spiritual transition in prison along with certain events and situations.

Stanley's views are extremly intresting and worth thinking about with an open mind. Things like his views about what "dys-education" is, religeon, brotherhood, spirituality, drugs, cultural education and it's importance.

His thoughts about his friend's Buddah, Evil and Treach are sad, and even uplifting at times. His educational studies on death row with Treach and Evil along with his exercising disiplines are very thought provoking also.

We outside of prison seem to be getting a school-based education for the sake of financial success. Stan can't do that. His transition is based on studies we need to perform here in our daily lives along with our children.

This book is not your typical urban-entertainment about being a gangster or a rap song compiled into book-form. This is a very articulated insight into the cycle of poverty, racism, violence, redemption, edification, transition and enlightenment.

A must read for everyone.

Rest in peace Stan. I miss you.

5 out of 5 stars Only God Can Judge.........2006-02-10

If you read this book with an open mind, you would learn that the Crips gang started out as just uniting other gangs around South Central. Stan was a mischivous little boy who I believe had potiental to do great things if only he was given the opprutunity. He says that living in South Central you had to have the mentality of "Survial of the fittest". And that's where the fights with other males really began, I believe. Much of the information about his case is left out but there are clues that connect someone else to the crimes. Hint: The people who let him keep his weights at their house after not having a permenant place to stay. Right before his grandmother died she said she had a feeling that Stan needed to get outta LA because something bad was going to happen.
I'm going to stop there and hopefully this information has interested you enough to read this wonderful book that will hopefully open your eyes to a positive light.

5 out of 5 stars Lets get a few things straight...........2005-12-19

Many people have a tendency to speak about things that they have no prior info about the subject. I see that is the case here. here are the facts.

-For over 25 years, even to is death, Tookie denies killing those 4 people.

-Tookie has apologiezed for creating the crips.

-He has tried to undo what he helped create by writing books.

[Why he should have been saved]

Tookie didn't want clemecy because he thought it was a better punishment for him. He wanted it so he couls continue his work. I am a "At-Risk" teenager, and I personally would listen to the creator of the crips about gangs, rather than listen to some white guy in a tie. Even if he did do the crimes that he was charged with, who are we to say he deserves to die? Last time I checked, someone named God makes those decisions.

5 out of 5 stars Essential Player's Guide for Werewolf.......2007-06-26

One thing that amazes me is the quality of supplements for Werewolf: the Forsaken. Pretty much everything released thus far has added depth and value to my games, and this one is no exception. Billed as the 'player's guide' for Werewolf, this book delivers exactly what it promises. The first part of the book goes into detail about each of the five Tribes of the Moon, exploring their individual culture, history, Auspice roles, and views on Renown, Harmony and Primal-Urge, as well as giving some sample story hooks. It has everything from mention of Blood Talon warriors who rode with the Mongols, to the roles assigned to Bone Shadow Irraka, to the Iron Master tradition of wearing decorations in their fur. And so much more. This is all stuff that expands upon and compliments what was written in the core book. Theres also a section on Ghost Wolves, explaining how and why Uratha choose the path, what their lives are like, and most intriguingly, options for STs to create a new 'sixth Tribe', with a few sample 'Tribes' included for good measure. Of course, as with everything else in the nWoD, this is all purely optional and STs can feel free to use or discard it as they see fit.

The next chapter is named Meat, appropriately enough, and contains just that. It's full of optional new Merits, Flaws, Gifts, Rites, Fetishes and Talens. Tooth and Claw, a new Fighting Style Merit, is introduced, and each Tribe gets a new Gift list, as well as suggestions for further Gifts (though it's recommended the ST be careful to keep things balanced). I found the Weakness and Information Gifts especially intriguing, but theres almost a dozen to choose from! Theres also examination of Harmony and, most importantly, pack structure, including new rules for using pack tactics! The final chapter, named Bones, goes into more detail on setting. A major portion of it deals with Protectorates, alliances between packs, and large scale interaction between local Uratha. This sort of stuff will doubtless be useful for Forsaken LARPs, but equally interesting was the examination of Uratha culture across the globe. Both the culture and regional problems are shown, along with several very different sample NPCs. How do the Uratha of the Middle East and North Africa view Islam? What strange cults threaten those in the Mediterranean? How much influence comes from the tribal animistic beliefs of Africa? And what are the Pure up to in Asia? All these are answered in this last section.

All in all, this is an excellent book. The sections on Tribe and global culture are excellent for adding some new dimension to characters, while the information on setting is useful for any large scale game. And, needless to say, the new mechanics are invaluable as well. Especially the stuff about packs. And, like I said, pretty much everything published so far has been a great resource. I find much of the information from this book going hand in hand with other resources, like Shadows of the UK and Lodges: the Splintered, adding more regional detail and variation to the setting. Whether you want to run a game in the wastes of the Sahara, or the slums of Rio, or the good old U-S-of-A, you'll find this book incredingly useful. I strongly recommend this as a resource for both players and STs.

Book Description

Neuroscientists have discovered that getting the heart into a positive rhythm can send a signal to the brain, allowing the two to synchronize and transform anger, frustration, and irritation into compassion, empathy, and calm. Transforming Anger shows readers how thoughts and feelings get stored in the nervous system and create cellular triggers of anger. In order to get beyond the mechanical negative pull of their triggers, readers learn to control their heart rhythms through a "freeze-frame" technique that allows them to clearly see their options for dealing with anger. Readers learn how to turn their emotional deficits into assets; build personal strengths; depersonalize actions of others; and identify resistance to change.

i gave this as a gift to my brother who gets angry easily, it brought tears to his eyes and he's much better now. we all have stress and anxiety and it's killing us slowly whether we know it or not. the heartmath approach to dealing with stress and anxiety is excellent. highly recommended for ALL! :)

5 out of 5 stars Use this with the EmWave.......2006-10-31

I am using the EmWave along with reading this book. It's been most helpful in reducing stress. The EmWave is a pocket size heart monitor that takes your pulse and equates it with how your heart reacts to positive and negative thinking. This book hits home as it uses real life thinking patterns that if continually used will eventually map a person's everyday thinking. So, if you're a negative thinker, your heart and mind eventually get mapped into thinking negatively. And who wants to be around negative people. This book helps a person "re-map" their heart and mind into a more positive attitude. With all the stress the news reports everyday, this book along with the EmWave will help to reduce the stress, be happy and of course, have better relationships.

4 out of 5 stars Anger Management.......2006-08-17

The book is excellent for someone with an anger management issue. For someone who wants to manage stress/anger, I'd recommend the book "Heart Math" which is more resourceful.

5 out of 5 stars No more raging maniac.......2006-08-07

I am so thankful that I found this book. I had fallen into a terrible pattern of screaming uncontrollably at my kids and then later having to apologize. My kids were afraid of me and how I would react. This book made sense to me from page one. Every page has been an "Ah-ha" moment of how I have conditioned my heart and mind to respond with anger. It has been so worth the money. I am now using the teachniques and ideas from the book to recondition my heart and mind to respond more calmly. My kids and husband have noticed a difference. And I definitely have. I feel so much better physically and mentally (less outburts mean less guilt and shame for how my anger was affecting my kids). I highly recommend this book for anyone who is looking for real and doable ways to reduce your anger. Good luck!

5 out of 5 stars Timely exploration of mind-body emotional health.......2004-06-24

This book builds on the most recent research from the Institute of HeartMath about the connections between the heart, nervous system, and emotional processing. It promotes a type of biofeedback application called FreezeFrame which uses heart rhythm coherence monitoring with emotional skill-building techniques to help handle anger, anxiety, and other negative emotional reactions. By integrating the body (especially the heart and nervous system) with subconscious emotional processing and conscious awareness a holistic model of resolving emotional issues is outlined. This approach is quite valuable, and both experimental and clinical evidence are increasingly showing the superiority of mind-body approaches as compared to drugs and talk-oriented therapies. A new book by a University of Pittsburgh doctor called "Instinct To Heal" discusses this trend further. In fact, my own clinical observations lead me to conclude that medications tend to perpetuate psychological difficulties, as they merely repress natural symptoms produced by the mind-body feedback system and often trigger further impairment of internal balancing mechanisms. Just as people can feel "better" while they are taking alcohol and other recreational drugs [especially when they have ongoing access to drugs to avoid the withdrawal phase], people will often feel better under the influence of prescribed psychotropics, not realizing that they are just suppressing a natural feedback system and temporarily escaping from an opportunity for healing and integration. Once the drugs wear off you can have major problems in addition to any immediate adverse effects that may have been triggered by drug use. Fortunately, HeartMath techniques can be used with or without medications or any other types of therapies and interventions, and I suspect that they would be very useful in helping people wean themselves from drugs by helping restore the body's natural coherence and regulatory abilities. The HeartMath approach can provide lasting emotional healing and is supported by solid research, some of which has significant implications about the nature of consciousness and reality that challenge status quo beliefs in the healing arts and sciences. This book explains the HeartMath research and therapeutic approach clearly, and anyone seeking more information about the technology and software can visit the Institute's web site.
