Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

3 out of 5 stars Better Than The Quartered Sea..........2007-07-13

but that's not saying much. Her descriptions, dialogs, and writing style are solid, but an unoriginal storyline makes the book drag a little. The plot and characters are not exceptional, special or unique. I feel that the book was too short for anything to be properly developed or explained and a lot of pages are wasted on repetition. How many times does Chandra have to tell people she's a Wizard of the Nine? How many times does Darvish need a drink? How many times does Aaron have to be paralyzed by his past when he sees blue eyes and black hair?

It takes a while for things to really get going, but, by then, I am already halfway through the book. The ending was very abrupt and a big disappointment. Like another reviewer said, things build up suddenly and the climax just wasn't there. It was a little disappointing after reading the reviews on here, but I would give her newer books a try. Although she has trouble making a decent, original plot, Tanya Huff can write well and I bet she's improved a lot by now.

4 out of 5 stars overall good story.......2007-06-11

This was a fast paced storyline with good character development. I liked the developing romance between the two male characters. The olny downside for me was that it seemed to target a younger (high school) audience.

        3 out of 5 stars Hype, anyone?.......2006-09-29

After reading Blood Price I swore I'd never read another book by Tanya Huff again, so why this one? I admit to being a yaoi fan and as such, I was looking for yaoi/slash themed fantasy/sci fi novels to read in my spare time. Lo and behold, this book came up in my search and after reading the reviews I was sold. Reviewers raved about the romance, about the character development, about how enticing the plot was and how much the author had endeared the characters to the reader and because I'm a sucker for such things, I snatched it up from the marketplace immediately. Yes, I'm a sucker alright because character development was about all this book had going for it. The plot was predictable and full of holes, the world bland and not too well defined, the list of usual suspects so short it was clear 'who-done-it' from the start, and the romance... don't even get me started. I will admit that the individual characters were nicely done and the plot had a satisfying climax but I spent the entire book anxiously anticipating the *romantic* climix only to have all those subtle romantic hints lead to a big fat nothing. I knew a one-shot book like this wasnt going to have the detail or political intricacies of the Nightrunner series or romance like seen in the Valdemar series but I can't help but be dissapointed. If you're looking for romance, you're barking up the wrong lava pit. I'm gonna go reread Magic's Pawn.

        4 out of 5 stars .......2005-08-23

The Fire's Stone has nothing new in the way of plot. Don't expect it. Ms. Huff has simply taken the standard fantasy plotline and decided to try her hand at it. I won't say that it was the most spectacular thing I've ever read, but it was good. It was more than good.

The thing I liked about this book though, was the character interactions. Ms. Huff has completly thought out her characters, and their reaction to everything is completely true to the way they have acted before. Tanya -knows- these characters, in every way, shape and form. They're beautifully flawed, and it makes them human. Darvish is a raving alcoholic, too afraid to face the fact that his father doesn't accept him to see that he has so much he could be doing with his life. Aaron has demons from his past that have forced him into a deathgrip on his emotions to the point that he really no longer has them. Chandra is a childish, whiny brat who's so self-centered and self-important that you sometimes want to slap her.

And yet, you find a way to love them all, even when you want to kill them. (Except maybe Chandra. ^_- )

It's not original, and it doesn't really try to be. So if some amazing, breathtaking plot is what you're looking for, go elsewhere. But if characters are your thing, and you want a moment's glimpse into different minds, then this book's a good bet. Go for it.

4 out of 5 stars An unusual trio goes on a quest.......2005-06-19

Tanya Huff sets "The Fire's Stone" in a fairly standard fantasy world (thief, wizard, prince go on quest), but her characters are completely her own. For one thing there's an unusual love triangle---at least it would be unusual in most fantasies---but common for Huff. Really, the only non-Huffian part of the triangle is a virgin who intends to stay that way. I don't think I remember a virgin-for-life from any of her other books.

Although there is a bit too much text wasted on the love story, "The Fire's Stone" is a strong and well-plotted fantasy. Huff does her usual good job with the minor characters, especially the soldiers and the Travelers (gypsies). I even liked the evil wizard. He could have talked me right into joining him.

The fantastical clutter of magic stones, mirrors, and wizards are handled in such an imaginative way that they held my interest to the end, especially during the scenes in the wizard's dwelling and the cauldron of the volcano.

After a sparkling introduction wherein the thief, Aaron attempts to steal the emerald from the Ischian king's scepter as a funerary gift for his friend, we meet the three main characters: Aaron, plus Prince Darvish who captures him in the act of thieving, plus Chandra, a Wizard of the Nine who is the prince's reluctant fiancée.

When an unknown wizard steals the Fire's Stone, which is the only magical device that stands between Ischia and a burning death by lava, Aaron, Darvish, and Chandra set out on a quest to recover The Stone.

Each of the three have character flaws that must be overcome before they can work together to confront the evil wizard and return The Stone to Ischia. Huff handles this part of the story very well, and I was really rooting for Aaron, Darvish, and Chandra, although admittedly, I was hoping Chandra and Darvish would fall in love with each other, and finish off the story with a standard romance.

Alas, Huff was too clever for me there. She stays true to her characters and a mundane 'happily-ever-after' simply would not fit.

At least I can hope for a sequel.

"The Chamber of Cheesecakes has been opened. Dieter's Beware!" reads the sinister warning in this hysterical parody of J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" series. In this farce all of your favorite Harry Potter characters, places, and past events have been twisted around with devilish wit. You'll follow the adventures of Harry Putter, Ron Cheesley, and Hermione Stranger in their sixth year at school, seventh if you count preschool. While some of the encounters are spoofs reminiscent of the original tales, others are new, keeping the storyline fresh and unpredictable. If you like the original Harry Potter series, you'll love this crazy parody.

This book is suitable for children of all ages.

It is the nature of a book of short stories to have those which are "winners" and those which are "losers" and Kyle Stone's collection is no exception. Some of the stories are a bit too short, we the reader do not have enough information to empathize with the characters. Others are connected in theme and character but separated from each other by other stories. Personally, whenever I read a collection of short stories, I mark in the table of contents which ones I liked best so that later I can reread those I enjoyed and ignore those I did not. If you enjoy tight writing and honry men, you will find something to appreciate in this collection.

            1 out of 5 stars I like fortresses, I don't like this book........2006-09-05

I don't know what that dude is talking about. This book is really boring. You have to read on and on and on to learn how things were done and why. The information is not well organized and it appears that alot of the same things are said over and over again, just worded different. Also, it appears to follow the career of a particular castle builder, and doesn't really encompass the broader spectrum of castle/fort building. This should include types of seige warfare, the living conditions possible and common to the inhabitants, interior designs, and so on. I would think these would be included in a book of the same size as this one. But it really dwells on why castles/ forts were built. I can say it right now in less than 5 freakin' chapters, TO KEEP PEOPLE OUT!

The text has a little (very little) valuable or awe inspiring information, and alot of filler. There are many more books out there that detail a greater time period with better information and better pictures. I don't know them off hand, but I recommend you put this book down and go look for them. Sorry Duffy.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Technical History.......2000-05-10

I have long been a military history buff. A few years ago the Army sent me and my family to Germany for three years - which was a dream come true. While there I toured several of the old forts built during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. It's embarressing, but I the military history enthusiast knew very little about these forts; the engineering, the purposes behind their construction, how the sieges were conducted, nothing. I realized that my knowledge of European warfare effectively ended in the middle of the fifteen hundreds and didn't resume until the mid - eighteen hundreds. The old fortresses fascinated me, thanks in a large part to the fact that I couldn't dechipher the layout of the walls. Centuries of vegetation, vandalism, urban growth, and decay had rendered many of the forts almost non-exsistent. Fire and Stone has helped to correct much of this. It is definitely a technical work and one written more for specialists then the general reader. But it never ascends to a level where the amatuer is simply left in the dirt. It has a wealth of drawings and diagrams, photographs, and schematics. The captions are well written and extremely helpful. There is also a very complete glossary at the back of the book which is not only a necessity but a god send. All to often it seems that authors forget such little details. Without the glossary this book would be impossible to follow. Numerous French, Latin, German, and Spanish terms for the various fortifications and their appendages are used, sometimes different names for the same structure are used! The glossary is an absolute must. The second half of the book is concerns the conduct of a siege for both the besieger and the besieged. Like the first half this part also shows the same attention to detail but never forgets the reader. All in all I have to give this book very high marks. Though it appeals only to a small sector of history buffs I recommend it. And if you have ever visited some of the old forts in Canada, such as Fort Henry in Kingston, Ontario, and marveled at the old fortress and its layout this book just might be for you as well.
