You Cannot Get any better than this!!!.......2007-01-16
This book was purchased for myself. I love the music of this movie and really love the challenging timing of each song. This is a must have for any library.
Lots of fun pieces to play!.......2006-10-29
The pieces in this book are very fun to play. They are written very well and it sounds very similar to what you hear on the soundtrack. I would reccommend this book for intermediate pianists, not beginners!
Great sheet music!.......2004-06-21
A great book of sheet music, and very promptly delivered; it only took around 1 week to arrive!
The music has just the right blend of simplicity/complexity to make it easy enough to play while still being challenging for my teenage daughter, and yet sounding GREAT and very satisfying to belt out.
We are very pleased, and would recommend this to anyone who likes the Pirates music.
liked this book.......2004-05-21
Klaus Badelt is one of my favorite composers. While this is not my favorite among his work (I was looking for sheet music for The Time Machine) This book is very good. It contains one lone grand staff for piano playing. The songs range in difficulty. The book is very well made and lies flat with ease and without breaking. The songs contained in this book are "The Medallion Calls" "The Black Pearl" "Blood Ritual/Moonlight Serenade" "Underwater March" "To the Pirates' Cave!" and "He's a Pirate".
Welcome to the Caribbean, love!.......2004-04-08
Never before have I been so pleased with a movie soundtrack music book before. This is really great. The pieces are probably a little advanced for most people, but if you know the music, it's not hard to figure out. It has every theme you'd want to play. Very, very, good!

A Pirate's Life for Me.......2007-10-11
As the lead animal trainer on all three of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies, I found Michael Singer's account of our shared experience accurate, artistic, and exciting. So often, the perspective disseminated via the publicity machine shows an idealized view of the film making process. "Bring Me That Horizon" beautifully illuminates our journey - warts and all. I am especially appreciative of the special chapter on "Critical Critters"(pages 88 & 89). For a veteran of the "Pirates" wars, this book is like a photo album - slash - scrapbook I will cherish forever.
Excellent book for POTC fans!!!.......2007-08-04
This book is very informative and so colorful! The pictures are incredible and it's very entertaining to read the actors' comments on their characters and the trilogy. I'm very glad that I invested the money! Any POTC fan who loves to read about the back stories behind the characters and the storyline will LOVE this!!! I highly recommend this one!
Behind the scenes mith Jerry Bruckheimer from Pirates of the Caribbean.......2007-07-15
For every Pirates movie fan a must have. The Characters talking about things that happened during filming. You get to know them better by reading this, things that you never have read before in any other interview in magazines or on sites. Also very nice phatography by Jerry Bruckheimer. Pictures only published in this book. Whene you are reading this you get great respect for all those people who are working behind the scenes. Then you realise how huge the work is to build a set. You find very much information about how the movie comes to that what we see on the whitescreen. Enormous what a work is done to deliver these three movies for us to see. You read who created the final line "bring me that horizon" of the first movie.
Bring Me That Horizon: the Making of Pirates of the Caribbean.......2007-07-13
This is a great book and well worth the cost. The history of the making of all three movies is very interesting and the pictures are great. I highly recommend this book for any fan of the Pirates trilogy.
The Making of POTC.......2007-07-04
What a great book! The inside scoop on everything POTC -- from interviews with the cast to special effects, costumes, makeup and film locations. A must for any POTC fan!

Finally!.......2007-09-17
I'm one of the artists featured in the book. I have to say this is one book that I'm proud to have my name attached. Too often "Art of" books smack of kissing up to the producers and above the line folks. This is an "art of" book that doesn't lie. It's just a bunch of art. Period. Thanks to Jon Rogers at Disney for putting this together.
The Art of the Pirates of the Caribbean.......2007-09-16
Ever wanted to see how they came they came up with the characters, settings, and more for the hit blockbuster trilogy Pirates of the Caribbean? Then you definitely should check this one out. The book is huge and bound in a beautiful leather cover. The pictures and illustrations are no less than amazing and are definitely worth the $$$ you're going to spend. So, if you are a Pirates of the Caribbean fan or just love artwork get this now!
This is Quality.......2007-09-08
This is worth owning. The prints of the artwork are very large, as compared to other 'art of' books. I would have preferred artist liner notes though.
Art of Pirates of the Caribbean--THIS IS THE WAY IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE DONE!.......2007-08-12
I am a big fan of "The Art of..." type books, and they are usually great fun and add to my enjoyment of the movie. "The Art of Pirates of the Caribbean", however, sets a new standard for quality in this type of book. From the faux-leather cover and binding, to the quality of the paper and the standards of the printing and color reproduction, this is the BEST book of its kind I have ever seen. Filled with fantastic art from all three movies, lavishly laid out...two page fold-out spreads; framable quality full page paintings and sketches..this book has it ALL. If you're a fan of the movies; appreciate great Pirate Art; or simply enjoy a lavishly produced movie book--BUY THIS BOOK (or as Capt. Jack would say--"Just go and steal it!")
Sketches and concept art.......2007-07-28
The Art of the Pirates of the Caribbean is a 160-page hardcover priced at a hefty $50. Although the art covers all three movies, it is mostly sketches and concept art without explanatory text or behind the scenes discussion. As such, it's good eye candy, but not much else.
This is a book you can set on the coffee table for friends to flip through. However, as a huge fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, I was ready to devour this book and came away somewhat disappointed. The drawings are a mix of black-and-white and color of the characters, ships, scenes, and such. Some of the drawings are storyboards and there are a few fold out pages.

A Pirate lover's eye candy.......2007-08-26
I LOVE Dorling-Kindersly Books! There has never been a publisher that has produced better visual guides to just about everything than DK. So it comes as no surprise that their volume on the third Pirates of the Caribbean film is a joy to look at. You either like the movies--or you don't. BUT, if you like them, the fantastic visual world they created is one of the main draws. This DK volume does the usual wonderful job of putting together a beautifully photographed collection of some of the most striking images from the film. The only problem with the book is, I wish it were longer!
The uncompleted visual guide to Priates of the Caribbean.......2007-08-07
The book is very good, not only the content, but also the print. But it is still not a "complete" visual guide to Piates of the Caribbean, because the world map of the priates on the seven seas is not in the book, that make me very disappoint.
Tired Of Depp and Bloom.......2007-08-06
Another POTC item that focuses on Depp and Bloom (yawn). Geoffrey Rush is a fabulous actor and is not receiving credit he deserves for his excellent performance as Barbossa. Rush is one of the most talented actors who plays many different characters. He is not tied down to one type of character like Depp and Bloom often are. I would only recommend this book to a die-hard Bloom or Depp fan.
Story of Pirates of the Caribbean movies in color.......2007-07-15
Very nice storybook of the POTC trilogy. Full colored. The Characters and the ships with lots of details which every Pirate movie fan wants to know. For adults en growing up childeren. Much pictures and easy text.
Fun and useful.......2007-06-13
My kids have found this to be a great reference tool as they write stories or make their own "Pirates of the Caribbean" story tapes. The pictures are great too.

Prepare to be boarded!.......2007-02-22
Know this first: I'm a huge fan of all things Disney, especially POTC the ride.
Imagineer Surrell's book is very well-done. This is one of those (along with his earlier work on the Haunted Mansion) that I go to again and again, like watching a favorite movie or listening to a favorite album. Maybe I'll notice on the 50th reading ONE MORE DETAIL I somehow missed...
I especially enjoyed the look at the other parks' version of the ride. Rock on, Jason!
Con: Woulda liked it in HARDCOVER.
Now, as with any OTHER topical subject, some of the info goes out of date the day the book is published, and will continue to "go stale". The 2nd, 3rd, and even talked-about 4th movies are, of course, not included. The much-publicized ride rehabs are not either. This is the same with Jason's earlier Disney's Haunted Mansion book (a good companion piece, by the way). That said, the HM book goes off into a hopeful description of the actually-miserable HM movie, touting it as the best thing since Bela Lugosi. This was written well in advance of the actual public release of the HM movie, I guess, so they were gambling the public would love what turned out to be a huge embarrasment. ( When I need cheering up, I sometimes imagine HM Director Minkoff at what I hope is his new day job, asking people if they want to add a cherry turnover to their order for just 50 cents more ). Okay, here's your soapbox back.
They shouldn't have pushed the HM movie so hard in THAT book.
Not so in THIS book: Because they "got burned" on the HM movie, there's a decidedly less-throat-cramming push for Curse of the Black Pearl, which, of course, in hindsight, they could have laid on thicker, now that the movie has generated some kind of Star-Wars-level cultural shift.
Buy the book. You know you want it.
I know I want more books on CLASSIC Disney attractions, and I only want 'em writ by Jason Surrell. Amen.
Daughter loves it!!!.......2007-01-12
My daughter just loves all the background information. She's very happy with it.
Updated version now available!.......2006-12-12
As of November, 2006, a newer, updated version of Mr. Surrell's book is now available! Look for the version with the compass rose in the upper right corner of the cover.
Cheers!
Beck
BIG BIG BIG BIG fan of the movies :).......2006-10-01
I love Disney world and I love love The Pirates Of The Carribbean! Great if you like both!
Fascinating read for Disneyland fans.......2006-09-13
I really enjoed the first chapter on how the concept translated into the final product of a ride. Amazing how these things come together. The second chapter comparing the ride throughs between the four parks I found a bit frustrating - hard to really picture it unless you're there (for me). I was more interested in the ride portion than the movie chapter myself. Worth the buy (though I bought it used).

The Curse of the Devilfish.......2007-05-19
This story is about a sixteen-year-old named Ramon Salazar's. His misfortunes begin when he retrieves an enormous black pearl from a secluded lagoon. This lagoon just happens to be the domain of a giant devilfish, which the locals call Manta Diablo. When Ramon realizes that having taken the pearl from the sea has caused unforeseen consequences for him, he attempts to return it. But in attempting to return the pearl, Ramon further imperial his life and his soul. I would recommend this book for those students in grades five through eight.
A boy who longs to prove himself a man.......2007-04-30
Some of Scott O'Dell's works are great, some are standard, and some are not worth the time. I was disappointed in this one. The plot is okay I guess, but it seems to lack anything very substantial, and is full of superstition. It tells the story of a son who goes into the pearl business with his father in Pa Paz, California. Nettled by the boasts of an employee, a pearl diver, he believes if he can find a pearl of gigantic proportions, he will be a man. In his father's absence, Ramon abandons his responsibilities, and convinces an Indian man who has sold them pearls to teach him to dive for them. He learns to search for pearls, but the Indian warns him away from a certain cave, where he believes the Manta Diabla resides. He tells Ramon that the pearls in that cave are the Manta Diabla's, and if anyone takes them, the Manta will pursue him until the pearl is returned. The Manta has spies all around who report to him the happenings when he is away. Ramon hunts in the cave anyway, believing the tale to be merely an old Indian legend. He finds an enormous black pearl, the size of a grapefruit, which has only a slight flaw, easily removed. The Indian counsels Ramon to return the pearl to the Manta Diabla, but scorning the tale, Ramon takes the pearl home. His father wanted to sell the pearl to one of the other pearl dealers in the town, but they were not willing to give him the sum he required, so he presented it to the virgin Mary image. Trusting in her to protect them after such a fine gift, Ramon's father sailed into the teeth of a violent storm, and his entire fleet was lost, with the exception of the Sevillano, the young man whose boasts had prompted Ramon's pearl discovery. The Indian insists that the storm was brought on by the Manta Diabla who wants his pearl back, and Ramon now believes him. He steals the pearl back with the intent to return it to the manta, but the Sevillano, armed with a knife, comes to steal it from him, intending to make his own fortune. Ramon is compelled at knife point to paddle the boat to the city where the Sevillano will sell the pearl, but the manta follows them, to recover his pearl, as Ramon is convinced. The Sevillano laughs at his fears, and tells him why his father's fleet was lost. The manta does attack them, and the Sevillano harpoons it, and ends accidentally strapped to the manta when he dives his last. Ramon stays in the area for a while to see if the Sevillano, who was known for his long dives, would reappear. When he does not, Ramon returns to the city and gives the pearl back to the Mary image, believing that she has protected him from the Sevillano and the Manta Diabla. He feels content that he has finally become a man.
Read it when I was younger.......2007-03-16
Purchased it recently and read it again. Just as good as the first time. A story for all ages.
The Black Pearl.......2006-06-07
The book The Black Pearl has a very interesting story. This book takes place in La Paz, Baja California. In this book, Ramon wants to prove to his father, Blas Salazar, that he is just as good as Sevillano, Ramon's worst enemy and Ramon's father's best pearl diver, at pearl diving. Manta Diablo, the monster of the deep, guards "The Pearl of the Heavens," the ocean's biggest pearl, that Ramon wants to dive for. Ramon got "The Pearl of the Heavens" and brought back home. When Ramon tells his father about the pearl, his father gives it to the church. Luzum, an old Indian tells Ramon that he should give it back to the Manta Diablo because the monster will come after him. I recommend this book to both girls and boys who are at the age of thirteen and under because I don't think people over the age of thirteen would be interested in this book. I don't think that people over the age of thirteen would like the book because I don't it's exciting enough. Overall I thought this was a good book.
The Black Pearl! eerf yenom!.......2006-06-07
I read the book The Black Pearl by Scott O' Dell. It is about a boy named Ramon, whose father is a famous pearl dealer in La Paz. At sixteen, Ramon is accepted into his father's business. He is taught everything his father knows. In a few days, Ramon goes on his first pearl gathering trip with the famous pearl gatherer, Gaspar Ruiz. After this trip, they return home. Ramon then sneaks away in Luzon's canoe, out and finds the famous Black Pearl, The Pearl of Heaven, hidden in the Manta Diablo's cave. Ramon then goes through many hardships, and starts to believe that him taking the pearl is what caused it all, but does not know how to fix it. Ramon is a young and good character. Ramon's father is a generous man. Ramon's mother and sistsers are not often used in the story. Gaspar Ruiz is a brave man and an excellent pearler, but an extreme braggart. Luzon is an Indian who believes in The Manta Diablo, who is a famous manta. The book is set in La Paz, Baja California. This is a fairly good book, seeming to be meant for people of the older kind.

This book is a great purchase if you're a POTC fan. Lots of beautiful, detailed, color photographs paired with interesting info about the first two films that you might not find anywhere else. The book is neatly broken down explaining each character independently as well as each of the places the pirates hang out. There is also a very detailed map of the Black Pearl located in the center of the book and not to mention dozens of great photos of Capt. Jack! A great purchase!
Enjoy the photos of the attractive cast.......2006-11-07
Okay. So, I am an adult woman who bought this book so I could look at photos of Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Jack Davenport as sexy swashbucklers in the privacy of my own home. And,it works. If I can't actually join them in their adventures, I can enjoy looking at them. Plus, the book has lots of fun information and other great photos from the films. If you liked the films and just want to relive them a bit, this is a great book.
Excellent Book.......2006-08-19

Do not waist your time on this! I loved the movie, i practicly lived in it!! But when I saw the book i thought, WOW!! A chance to READ the best thing eva! But, I HATED IT!!! Cant there be a 0 rating?! Do not read! The script is more interesting!! (Is it possible to sue an author 4 bad books??!!)
Awesome.......2004-12-15
This book was what gave me a taste for what I could expect from the movie. And this one little book brought about a strong obsession I still have for PotC nearly two years later.
If you haven't seen the movie yet and are unsure read this book and you'll definitely want to see the movie.
Altered for the worst........2004-06-19
"Pirates of the Caribbean: The Junior Novelization" is quite a letdown. Although I am not within the targeted age bracket, I still can imagine how I would have reacted after reading this book: disappointed. Disney turned their famous ride into a fun movie, so one would think the junior novelization would have the same magic and humor. Wrong. Even though there was hardly anything offensive within the movie, the author cut scenes out. While one may think scenes were added, take a look at the "special features" on the "Pirates of the Caribbean" DVD, and you'll see where the extra dialogue and scenes came from. All of the memorable lines were deleted and substituted for others, which is disappointing. Nonetheless, you'll have pictures to look at while reading, so you can be reminded of the comical movie you've come to love. I do not recommend.
