Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Hi! I'm going to tell you about the craziest and funniest book you probably will ever read. It is so funny, you'll probably cry! I'll tell you a really funny part: Two boys named George and Harold, who are really bad boys, changed a sign that said, "Pick your own rose," to, "Pick your noses!" Captain Underpants always gets in trouble and then George and Harold have to save him! You will really love this book!

The Adventures of Captain Underpants (The first epic novel).......2007-02-28
Captain Underpants started in book 1. It all began when a mean old principal named Mr. Krupp made 2 students, George and Harold, his slaves for pulling a big prank. Until they got a 3-D hypno ring and messed with Mr. Krupp's brain, and told him he was a famous super hero named Captain Underpants (Even though he had no super powers). So he goes off in his undies and tries to fight villainous bad-guys. When all of the sudden he ran into some robots trying to steal gems. Will he get them? Buy the book to find out. I give this book a 5 star because it is humorous and fun for children to read.
tra-la-la!.......2007-02-04
Captain Underpants is about two boys named Harold and and George who start to write Captain Underpants comics, and end up hypnotising their mean princepal, who ends up becoming Captain Underpants. I think The Adventures of Captain Underpants was very funny, and a I look forward to reading the next book.

Book Description
The Doolittle Raiders, as they became known, were a squadron of eighty scarcely trained young men led by the famous daredevil aviator Jimmy Doolittle. Their mission-the daring World War II bombing raid of Tokyo and other cities in April 1942-was successful until Japanese spies forced most of the squadron to crash-land in enemy-occupied China, where pilots were ferried underground across the country to safety. One plane landed in the Soviet port of Vladivostok, where the crew was eventually smuggled out of the country through Persia. Others were captured by the Japanese, confined to years of imprisonment and torture. The fact that 90 percent of the men involved came home alive was little short of a miracle.
Extensively researched, including interviews with twenty of the twenty-seven remaining survivors, The First Heroes vividly recreates America's first great victory of World War II. Craig Nelson follows the Doolittle Raiders from their secret training on a Florida airfield to their tense days in transit across the Pacific to the bombing itself and finally to their courageous accounts of survival against astonishing odds. This story of America's striking back at its enemies after a vicious surprise attack will resonate widely with the general public today and is sure to appeal to all readers of Tom Brokaw's The Greatest Generation.

Poor knowledge of detail.......2007-08-30
I really, really wanted to like this book. I'd just finished Hornfischer's outstanding "Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors" and wanted some more inspirational reading. I'm about half finished listening to this book in its MP3 version, and have noted the following:
1) the author has no - and I repeat no - required knowledge of the US Navy. There are many, many small, factual errors that are really annoying - referring to the HMS Repulse as a "cruiser", describing the Japanese torpedoes as "two feet long", etc, etc. Anyone with even a basic knowledge of the US Navy in WW2 should have been given an opportunity to preview this book before publication.
2) Overuse of military jargon - bombs referred to as "cabbages", torpedoes as "eels" by such a rank amateur was just too much.
3) this really doesn't apply to the book itself, but the reader on the MP3 version had no idea regarding correct pronunciation of naval terms - (en-sine, indeed.)
I find that when there are so many factual errors in an area that I'm familiar with, I have a tough time accepting the new - often interesting on its face - data that an author brings up. It's too bad that such a terrific topic couldn't have been treated more professionally. I read "Thirty Seconds over Tokyo" as a kid and really was looking for some new information. I blame the editors completely for this second rate attempt.
just a great historical book about an impossible mission.......2007-01-22
This book is wonderful! Gives a sense of the courage needed after pearl harbor and how it was met by young americans. Harrowing!
I can't recommend it any more than A MUST READ. I have sent many to soldiers and friends!
Great History of the Doolittle Raid.......2006-07-23
Here's a compelling and well told history of the daring Doolittle Raid of 1942. Nelson does a good job recounting America's first offensive action against Japan in WWII.
More of a morale booster for America and a psychological defeat for the Japenese, the raid did little actual damage. It did however prove to the world that the Japanese were vulnerable.
This story of the daring men who went on what amounted to a suicide mission is riveting. Nelson takes us through the training for the ultra secret mission, to the actual raid itself, and the following crash landings in China.
Nelson does a very good job of placing these events in the overall context of WWII and follows the fates of all involved up to the present. A little slow at first, The First Heroes rewards persistence. Recommended for anyone interested in WWII.
The First Heroes is a must read.......2006-03-23
The First Heroes by Craig Nelson is a must read for anyone who is interested in history, especially World War Two. It is the story of America's finest pilots getting their first vengeance after the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. The task seemed impossible: fly bombers off of an aircraft carrier in the Pacific, drop bombs over Tokyo and somehow land in China. The mission didn't go as planned. Only one plane made it to Allied soil and the other 15 crashed in Japanese occupied China, but not before dropping their payload over Japan. It was a daring move but it paid off in the end. The book is full of first hand accounts which bring a sixty year old story back to the present times. It was so good that I read it in about two weeks. It had me from the first page. Instead of focusing on just one main character, Craig Nelson tells the stories of all 100 men involved, giving this unique event many different angles. I only read non fiction books and this one read like a work of fiction, with lots of suspense and surprises at every turn. It shows human suffering and how humans can overcome physical and mental suffering if they have the will to do so. I was also amazed at how the Japanese treated their prisoners of war. They had little respect for anyone who was not their own, something that the western world has a hard time fully understanding. This is a must read for anyone interested in the aviation of the Second World War. Craig nelson weaves an intriguing story.
Not researched but well embellished.......2006-03-04
I was only able to read as far as page 146 before I was turned off by the author's lack of knowlege of the subject. For instance, on the page mentioned above he quotes Lt Joyce as saying "my rear gunner was firing." He did record the fact that the tail guns had been removed and replaced by broom sticks. Where was his editor? Other reviewers have also pointed out other glaring errors committed all before page 146 such as diesel engins, "Billys", and B's taxiing, and so on. The first half of the book left much to be desired, I will not read the rest of the book.

A great book!.......2005-11-13
This book is a collection of fourteen stories of Bronze Age heroes, each written by a different author, and set in a different setting. Overall, I found this to be a fascinating book. So few books take the Bronze Age as a setting, and it is a wonderfully interesting time! The stories are great, with my favorites being The Gods of Chariots, A Hero for the Gods, and The Matter of the Ahhiyans.
This is a great book, one that I highly recommend to all history buffs, and all fans of great fantasy literature!
In case you are interested, the stories included are:
The Lost Pilgrim by Gene Wolfe - When a time traveler finds himself in a different age than intended, he little realizes the importance of this journey of Argonauts!
How the Bells Came from Yang to Hubei by Brenda Clough - In Zhou China, an apprentice metal artisan learns the gentle wisdom his master lives. Now, if they can just stay alive...
The Gods of Chariots by Judith Tarr - The Mesopotamian city of Uruk is in danger from barbarians, but it is said that to the north there lives a strange new god who fashions weapons of great power.
The Horse of Bronze by Harry Turtledove - When the tin stops arriving from the Tin Isle, Chreiron the centaur leads an expedition to find out what happened. It seems that there is a new race abroad in the world - man.
A Hero for the Gods by Josepha Sherman - Hittite soldier Hupasiya is just trying to keep his family alive, but to save his family he will have the save the gods themselves!
Blood Wolf by S.M. Stirling - In alternate history Nantucket, warrior Kreuhu Wolkwos is looking for fame and honor, but in this strange new world, he may have to use his head to gain it.
Ankhtifi the Brave is dying by Noreen Doyle - During the First Intermediate Period, after Egypt's Old Kingdom, many local lords sought to be proclaimed Pharaoh. But, one man stands true to the gods and the Pharaoh, Ankhtifi the Brave!
The God Voice by Katherine Kerr & Debra Doyle - Lawinia, wife of Aeneas (hero of the Aeneid) has a tale of her own, a tale that only the priestess of Dian can tell.
Orqo Afloat on the Willkamayu by Karen Jordan Allen - Two brothers, sons of Inka Wiraqocha, war over who will be king of the Inkas - but who will win, and what will be the cost?
The Myrmidons by Larry Hammer - A poem that tells of the origin of the Myrmidons.
Giliad by Gregory Feeley - The arrival of a new computer game sends Leslie and Trent into a look at fiction and reality and history.
The Sea Mother's Gift by Laura Frankos - The days are growing colder, and the people of Dett's Orkney island don't yet realize that disaster is staring them in the face. But, Dett is a man of vision...and a man of visions.
The Matter of the Ahhiyans by Lois Tilton - When the Hittite king get word of the Achaean attack on his subject Troy, he sends an emissary to report on the course of the war.
The Bog Sword by Poul Anderson - When a history professor journeys back in time to Bronze Age Denmark, he sees a pivotal time, when the Celts came to Europe bringing their iron weapons with them.
superb fourteen short story collection .......2005-10-11
The contributors to this superb fourteen short story collection consist of a who's who of speculative fiction. The tales can easily be classified as fantasy (with a mythological feel) or historical with little or no fantasist elements. Personally this reviewer found the fantasy shorts more intriguing though the historical ones like that scribed by Judith Tarr are superbly written. Each contribution is original and creative and also included one of the last if not the final work by the legendary Poul Anderson who brings a wisp of sci fi to his entry. Fans of Homer, the mythos, or strong fantasy will appreciate this terrific compilation in which everyday people encounter the Gods and species like centaurs in the era of Odysseus and Achilles.

Stories from the dawn of history.......2004-07-02
This book, with stories all set in the Bronze Age, will appeal to SF readers even though there's precious little SF about it. It is the authors themselves that are well-known to the genre. Co-Editor Harry Turtledove has an entry with an explanation for where the centaurs, fauns, and other mythological creatures went, which is one of the stronger stories in the book. Other big SF names are Gene Wolfe, with a time-traveler who finds himself aboard the Argo instead of the Mayflower; Judith Tarr, whose tale illustrates how a city's fortune can rise or fall based on its weapons rather than its deities; S.M. Stirling, with a short story from his Nantucket universe, where the modern island is transported back to the Bronze age to dominate trade and warfare; and Poul Anderson, closing the collection with another time-traveler who wants to study the Bronze Age but faces instead the rise of the Age of Iron.
Tarr has previously collaborated with Turtledove in their novel "Household Gods." Laura Frankos ("The Sea Mother's Gift," a purely historical tale of the Orkney Islanders) is married to him. Co-editor Noreen Doyle is an historian, and her Egyptian tale, based on an actual inscription, is also straight history.
All the stories are worth reading; there isn't a stinker in the collection. Doyle and Turtledove also included some useful introductory material before each story. This ought to be standard in books like these, where not every reader has a Ph.D. in that era, but in Turtledove's last stint as editor he neglected to give a setting for the stories in _Alternate Generals II_. I was pleased to see these necessary lead-ins when I finished their introduction to the book.
Best stories are Turtledove's "A Horse of Bronze," featuring Meditteranean Sea-faring centaurs who discover humans in the British Isles; "Blood Wolf" by Stirling, which made me want to read the Nantucket novels, and Frankos' "The Sea Mother's Gift," which was the most evocative and had the best sense of character and place. The story that failed did so in an interesting way: Gregory Feeley's "Giliad" seemed like it was the result of a hard disk erasure gone awry. I think what he was trying to do was give the sense of an incompletely erased clay tablet that he uses as a metaphor for his Bronze Age literary stand-in, but this story that takes place right before and after 9/11/01, in Manhattan, never seemed to catch on with me. There is also a confusing segment with a possibly gay couple who is never mentioned again, while the erudite modern family (including an eight-year-old daughter who talks more like a 15 year old) and the Sumerian girl intertwine throughout the story. This tale is thus literary experimentation, and I commend Feeley for the attempt but this needs the love and care of a stronger editor.

Super Reader.......2007-08-30
It was an incredibly pleasant surprise when I saw this novel in a
bookshop, Kingdom Come and Elliot S. Maggin's return to superhero
novels. This had to be good.
It was, no doubt about it. The comic was good, and so is this. An
extra treat (apart from smashing up Booster), is the inclusion of some
art pieces by Alex Ross throughout the book.
worth it for the captain marvel/superman fight..........2006-11-30
alex ross is the greatest comic artist out there. kingdom come is a fine story, where the spectre leads around a normal guy to watch the goings on years in the dc universe future.. but this is why the story isn't a true 5 star (more like 4.5) graphic novel, because let's be honest no one cares about the normal guy watching we're just waiting for the superheroes. by itself it is not so bad, but if you read marvels and earth x you'll see the guy watching from the outside type thing gets old. one great thing is with this graphic novel captain marvel was thrust back to the forefront of the dc universe for a time. we can only hope this continues for the world's mightiest mortal.
INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-10-11
I've heard about Kingdom Come for the past few years, but I was completly unaware that a novel based on the series even existed. When the entire graphic novel appeared on my recommdations, I began to wonder if a novel was written. It turns out my hunch was true.
Maggin, though this is the first of his novels I've read, did an excellent job with the charater's personalization, but the charcter that caught my attention was Batman. The novel brought him from a dark, brooding, mysterious man, to a more un-strung, serious when he has to, which is most of the time, slightly comedic hero.
This goes down as a great comic novelization.
PARTY ON, DUDES!!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS A COPY OF THE SECOND E-MAIL I SENT AMAZON ABOUT THIS ITEM
My original order for Kingdom Come (Mass Market Paperback) was placed May 3rd 2006. Since that order I've approved the pushing back of the shipping numerous times and did not recieve it. I emailed Amazon about this issue and still have not recieved it. I've canceled the order and replaced the order as an amazon prime member and still have not recieved it. I'm not even that concerned with recieving the item anymore, what I am concerned about is the fact that you list the item's availability as: [...]. At this point I consider that blatant false advertising.
Well..........2006-04-18
...I'd heard of the skill Maggin's writings before picking this book up, how descriptive he is, how detailed he is, how he manages to accurately and believably characterize even the most inhuman and alien beings well enough to actually make you care for them, to make you see what their p.o.v might be. Well, what I heard of him was dead on. This dude brings superhero drama to life like no one can, minus the pretty pictures. Doing this is even more of a challenge to pull off successfully, because without the pretty pictures, all the creator's got is his or her wits and sharp plotting and characterization skills. Maggin pulls this feat off with apparent ease. This novel is based on a series of brilliant comics which I first read sometime ago. What happens when Superman, Batman, WonderWoman and all of the old crowd gets pissed at new age killer "heroes" and vacates their long held spots as Earth's defenders? What happens when metahumans run rampant across the globe, seething with boredom, now that all crime has been successfully eradicated? What is the natural progression of life when the more honorable of the world's defenders leave Humanity to its own devices? The things, among many others , are a few of the questions answered in this novel. Brilliant, and very realistic. These are bar none the best characterizations of these particular icons that I have ever read. Seriously. Maggin takes the brilliance of Waid's and Ross's script and build magnificently on it, adding more layer and dimensions to the plot and characters than I've think I've ever read. I usually write so much when it comes to reviews on the things I've read, so I'll make this one short. If you love Superman, Batman, WonderWoman & The Justice League...if you like mature superhero stories that might make you think, and I mean think hard, then do yourself a favor and go buy this novel. Trust me...it is WELL worth every dime spent.

Ideal for its target audience.......2001-12-28
We are home schooling a 7 year old who had a tough time getting started on reading last year. He's progressing very well now, though, so I've been looking for books that are a bit more advanced, closer to third grade level than what he's been reading. This book turned out to be perfect on that score.
The vocabulary is simple enough that my son could read most of it without help, but it introduced several words that he needed some coaching on. As a result, it served both as a way to increase his confidence in his own ability to read and as a way to teach him a few new words. Also, any book about Superman is bound to be of interest to a 7 year old boy, so he really wanted to read it.
The artwork in the book reminds me of the early-mid '90s animated TV series. The plot, while not entirely consistent with most of the other "Superman coming into his powers" stories, was not so different as to bother any but the most die hard detail-oriented Superman fan. The main difference from other versions of the story is that young (teenage) Clark has no idea that he has any super powers at all, and suddenly comes into most of them all at once.
A common bond - Highlighting adoption.......2000-06-01
Anytime I can pick up a book about Superman and have a positive message about adoption in it, I will read it to my kids. I have used Superman as an example to my two kids who are adopted. I would like to see more of this type of writing. I have also used the book to increase my child's reading ability. It is easier to learn when there is a common bond. ===> rgkohlman@fuse.net

Book Description
Maternal love is considered the most unconditional form of love, yet mothers have been prepared to sacrifice their children, or to see them sacrificed, for a "noble" cause. Mothers of Heroes, Mothers of Martyrs shows that, across cultures and historical eras, in times of great stress societies will channel all their resources, even maternal love and grief, toward a common cause. Suzanne Evans finds commonalities between the many images of war mothers - the Canadian Silver Cross mother, the ancient Jewish Maccabean mother of seven martyred sons, the mother of a Palestinian suicide bomber. She compares the lore about mothers of martyrs in the Judeo-Christian, Muslim, and Sikh traditions with stories of World War I Canadian mothers who were depicted in the media as having sacrificed their sons for the sake of civilization, justice, freedom, and God. After the war these mothers were honoured with the Silver Cross medal. Evans argues that, like the mothers of past martyrs, the image of the war-supportive mother in Canada had a powerful influence over public opinion and drew supporters to the cause. "I remember as a young mother looking at a picture of a Palestinian woman who had just lost her child to martyrdom but was smiling with a serene pride. This was the first time I had come across the phrases "mother of martyr" or "Intifada smile." How could a woman show joy over the death of her child? I could not get the question out of my mind. I later discovered that stories of women who publicly rejoice on the death of a child in support of their community have been told for centuries in the Jewish, Christian, Islamic, and Sikh traditions. There was a depth and complexity to the image of a mother of a martyr that required much more than a passing glance to be understood." From Mothers of Heroes, Mothers of Martyrs

Book Description
Every superhero has an Origin. To tell the truth, it's a little embarrassing. I wasn't put into a rocket and sent to Earth by my parents just as my home planet exploded. I wasn't given a special ring by visiting aliens. I wasn't bitten by a radioactive spider. No, it wasn't anything nearly so glamorous; my beginnings are quite humble. I was merely the innocent victim of a Horrible Swiffer Accident.
Meet Birdie Lee, clerk at Marvel Fine Food and Beverages and an average, middle-aged single mother of two teenagers. Until one ordinary morning when, on the floor of her bathroom, Birdie discovers a Stain of Unknown Origina stain so intense that nothing can remove it. When all her attempts fail, Birdie does the unthinkable: She loads her Swiffer with every cleanser she owns, aims, and shoots. Suddenly, Birdie becomes endowed with extraordinary powers. Now Birdie must somehow balance it allher smug ex and his overachieving new wife; two teenagers and a string of PTA meetings; her own budding romance; and her beloved town of Astro Park, whose very existence is threatened by a mysterious force sneaking its way into every household. A delightful, well-earned escape, Confessions of Super Mom is an amusing vindication of the overlooked everyday heroism that is a woman's life.
Praise for Confessions of Super Mom by Melanie Lynne Hauser
Confessions of Super Mom is a delightful read. Smart, zany, and touching, it is the perfect remedy for overwhelmed mothers everywhere.

Cleanup on Aisle 5............2007-05-12
I felt this was a fun read. I had a little trouble getting into it at first, but then I kept wanting to read more. Not a bad first novel. As a mom, I know that I want to save my kids from evil and how cool would it be to have super powers that enable you to do that? Scary too I ould imagine.
Definitely worth checking out!
Faster than a cup of coffee, more powerful than a blog carnival . . .......2006-10-10
I picked this book up because of the cover and because my daughter has been obsessed with superheros her whole life. The story is a page-turner, tugging at themes that, as parents, we all struggle through--negotiating our consumer oriented, media saturated world, family dynamics etc. The tongue-in-cheek, slighty "noir" style of writing increases the sensation that such a story really could happen to you, if only certain things fell into place.
It was a wonderful, uplifting fun read that I have been recommending to everyone. I am also really hoping for a sequel!
Great Lazy Afternoon Escape.......2006-07-28
Loved this book - a real guilty pleasure. Deep? No. The plot is formulaic, but the way she twists the details made me continually curious as to how she would play with this formula. I'm a mom and a sci-fi fan- a great book for fantasy loving moms. Also, I could relate to her deep concern for children and wanting to make the world a better place. I share the fantasy. Highly recommended beach read.
funny and sharp.......2006-06-14
"Confessions of Super Mom" is charming and amusing, with a disarmingly likable cast of characters. The book playfully dissects the conventions of super-hero comics, while also incorporating the realities of raising teenagers; and Hauser does it all with wisdom and a pop-culture savvy. Thoroughly entertaining.
Fun to read.......2006-03-09
This was a really fun book to read. I'm glad that a friend of mine suggested it to me. The characters were easy to relate too and it was well written.

The life of an excellent role model for young women.......2006-07-12
Although the inexorable flow of social events would have eventually led to American First Ladies taking a more active role in politics, a disability sped it along. When Franklin Roosevelt was elected President, his confinement to a wheelchair prevented him from touring the country. It then became the job of his wife Eleanor to go out and do the visitations that the country expects the President to do.
In many ways, Franklin and Eleanor were the perfect political couple. Both were children of privilege and yet each somehow managed to develop a strong sense of social justice. Because she was such a trailblazer and a role model for women in the world, Eleanor Roosevelt was most likely the most powerful American woman of the twentieth century. Her willingness to literally get her hands dirty won her admiration from working people all over the country. I still remember the political cartoon I read in a collection many years ago. Two black-faced men are deep in a coal mine and one of them turns his head and says, "My God! It's Eleanor Roosevelt!" The fact that the cartoon represented actual events is a tribute to her willingness to do what was necessary to succeed.
Donnelly captures the determination, grace and intellect of Eleanor Roosevelt and puts her life and achievements in the proper perspective. Although not a great deal of time is spent on the sad events in her life, it is enough to demonstrate how Eleanor had to overcome a great deal of personal tragedy in order to succeed. The book is well written at the level of the middle school child, and is an inspiration to all girls who aspire to greatness. While it is easier for them to do it in modern times, role models are still needed and there are none better for young woman than Eleanor Roosevelt.
