Book Description
From the era of slavery to the present day, the first full history of black America’s shocking mistreatment as unwilling and unwitting experimental subjects at the hands of the medical establishment.
Medical Apartheid is the first and only comprehensive history of medical experimentation on African Americans. Starting with the earliest encounters between black Americans and Western medical researchers and the racist pseudoscience that resulted, it details the ways both slaves and freedmen were used in hospitals for experiments conducted without their knowledge—a tradition that continues today within some black populations. It reveals how blacks have historically been prey to grave-robbing as well as unauthorized autopsies and dissections. Moving into the twentieth century, it shows how the pseudoscience of eugenics and social Darwinism was used to justify experimental exploitation and shoddy medical treatment of blacks, and the view that they were biologically inferior, oversexed, and unfit for adult responsibilities. Shocking new details about the government’s notorious Tuskegee experiment are revealed, as are similar, less-well-known medical atrocities conducted by the government, the armed forces, prisons, and private institutions.
The product of years of prodigious research into medical journals and experimental reports long undisturbed, Medical Apartheid reveals the hidden underbelly of scientific research and makes possible, for the first time, an understanding of the roots of the African American health deficit. At last, it provides the fullest possible context for comprehending the behavioral fallout that has caused black Americans to view researchers—and indeed the whole medical establishment—with such deep distrust. No one concerned with issues of public health and racial justice can afford not to read Medical Apartheid, a masterful book that will stir up both controversy and long-needed debate.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

OK.....but not great.......2007-08-10
This is my 2nd Moning. Overall, I enjoyed this book but I would not read it again. I found the heroine annoying and the hero overdone. I get it he is ...dark and sexy...I'm not going to forget from one page to the next. I will probably try another of her books before I give up. I love romance novels but this really just read like pure fantasy.
Dark Highlander - Highlander Series.......2007-08-09
In this book, KMM has created the man of many women's dreams. Dageus is the bad boy that the good girls want to convert. The entire book was amazing (as the rest of the series) and the darker tones in the book set off her characters nicely. If you get tired of the same old shiny bright heroes, this is the book for you. Dageus is dark, hot, sensual, and deeply complex. This complexity helps this book stand out a bit above the rest... highly recommended.
Heartless Druid on the run from himself!.......2007-05-21
This is the story of a Scottish Druid from the 16th century who falls in love in the 21st century. Sound familiar?
This book is the direct sequel to Kiss of the Highlander, and unlike others in Moning's Highlander series, really should be read in tandem with the previous book. Otherwise you can't fully engage with the story, with the character or his situation. Unfortunately when you do that, you'll easily see the parallel and repetetive plot devices that may make the story seem disappointingly formulaic.
What makes this story different from others that Ms. Moning has written, and a powerful story in its own right, is the level of conflict with the dark Druids who are foretold to enter the mind of any Druid who travels through time for his own personal reasons (abuses his power). Drageus has done this forbidden act in a self-less way, to preserve the life and love of his dear brother (and you would only resonnate with that part of the story if you read 'Kiss'). The story jumps right in shortly after Kiss left off, with the two brothers already in communication over his situtation, and Drageus struggling with the Dark Druids over his own soul. The author doesn't try to build his character, the way a novel normally starts - he seems like a heartless bastard, he doesn't love anyone, save his family members, and has firmly given up on that aspect of his life, when he meets Chloe in a very funny scene.
The love story follows a similar vein as Kiss of the Highlander, in which Chloe must fight for her love with Dageus, and go backwards in time with him. But the ultimate struggle in this story is the hero's (unlike Kiss where it was the heroine who had to fight for her love). Dageus must prove himself and demonstrate strength of character, and so by the end of the book it is hard not to have fallen in love with this powerfully sexy and charismatic man. ;-)
Enjoy this story! And enjoy the return of some characters that we came to love in Kiss of the Highlander: Silvan, Nell, Drustan, and Gwen. How often do we read a book and wish it could never end? Dark Highlander gives you a chance to continue to enjoy a great story, and provides a sequel that is just as powerful a story.
Dissapointed with this one..........2007-04-11
In this book about Adam Black, I found myself dissapointed and surprised by the lack of consistency of Adam's character compared to the other Highlander books that he appeared in. He was positively horrid in the past books and down right hateable. I felt that his character as that hateable fairy added to the last books and made you understand why is son didn't want anything much to do with him in "The Highlander's Touch". His lightening fast change of character in this book was just too unbelievable to me. I couldn't even finish due to the fact that it just wasn't even ficticiously believable as Moning's past books have been. Oh well, you can't please everyone. I'm glad that someone enjoyed it. I do look forward to more about the MacKeltar brothers in the future. Pleas don't wait to long to pick up the Highlander series again, Ms. Moning. Thanks!

Jones & Jenna stole the show!.......2007-09-30
It seemes like I waited forever to get Dallas&Amy's story and while Into The Dark did become an action-packed tale, I can't say the romance between Dallas and Amy moved me. There seemed to be much more between them when they were in the Philippines so that in the end, this romance ends like a shipboard one. Once they reach home ground, the magic fizzles out. This was how I felt about Amy and that's a shame because the book is fast-paced and would have made an excellent movie.
Somehow, the emotion was missing from this book and it shouldn't have been the case because Dallas is supposed to be one tortured soldier, suffering from PTSD but Ms Gerard has failed to pull the reader into his tortured world because she chose 'telling' rather than 'showing'. As a result, when she tells me Dallas can't see a future for him with Amy, I was wondering why not. Sure, his team members got killed or injured in a mission but all soldiers suffer that kind of loss in war time. I didn't get to share even a little bit of what those teammates had with Dallas so when Ms Gerard fast forwards the story, Dallas' reasons for his depression got lost.
As for Amy, I just could not buy into her reason for going after her grandfather. But I guess I don't understand this need for revenge, especially if in Amy's case it was just to ask him why he did what he did. IMO, that was such a dumbass thing to do. Totally TSTL, which makes me feel that Dallas and Amy's romance wouldn't survive in real life.
But I am SO intrigued by Gabriel Jones! He and Jenna truly stole the show from the depressed Dallas and the TSTL Amy. Okay, TSTL is too harsh a word for Amy because she is a very capable and self-sufficient woman. I liked that she had no qualms killing her would-be asassin. I liked that Jones told her she could watch his back anytime. But her reason for going after her grandfather was still stupid.
Obvious Flaws.......2007-09-11
I won't get into the plot here, as many others have. I will just say that I was more excited to meet the men working with Dallas and Amy in Argentina, as they are sure to be featured in future books. Those guys had more charisma in their few pages than Dallas and Amy in all 300+ pages.
My largest pet peeve by far is how quickly Amy recovered from her trauma in the Philippines. Come on - six months later and she is suddenly an expert shot and good enough at an Israeli martial art to take down a Recon Marine? How much disbelief should I suspend here!?! I love to escape to someone else's world, but at least make it somewhat believable! And that is discounting the obvious mistake of using the term "revolver" to refer to a handgun with a clip!
Into the Dark .......2007-08-13
When Dallas Garrett and his brothers embarked on a rescue mission to the Philippines, they never expected to liberate another prisoner. Tortured and violated, Amy Walker's strength and spirit touches something deep within Dallas. Both battle scarred, they share an unspoken bond. While Dallas wants to protect Amy, he can't promise her anything more. Amy has more pressing matters anyway. Even though she has her suspicions, she needs to learn for certain who masterminded her abduction...before they try again.
Once back in the States, Amy quietly vanishes out of Dallas' life. Now six months later, Amy is closer to finding her answers, but the closer she gets to the truth, the more dangerous her quest becomes. Running out of options, she turns to the only person she trusts, Dallas. In the months since Amy's disappearance, Dallas has not forgotten her. When she crashes back into his life, the urge to protect her is just as strong, yet Amy isn't the same woman he saved. The flare of attraction the two first felt is now a blaze that neither can control. Thrust into a conspiracy bigger than either imagined, can Amy and Dallas find a safe way out of their troubles? Can either deny the love and passion they both feel?
Ever since reading To the Brink and getting my first peek at Dallas and Amy, I have been dying to read their story. With Into the Dark, Cindy Gerard delivers a heart-pounding, sensuous thriller that's totally worth the wait! Amy has evolved since I first met her. She is a strong, capable woman who's ready for anything. Tortured by his past, Dallas isn't sure he has anything to offer Amy, but he proves time and time again what a good and worthy man he is. The simmering sensuality that builds between the pair boils over in the most captivating way. I'll admit that at first, I had a hard time buying the secret cabal plotting world domination, but then Dallas wasn't believing it at the start either. Quickly however, I was swept up in the adventure, and Ms. Gerard made the story work. I also loved the secondary characters that teamed up with Dallas and Amy. Although this is the last Bodyguards book, I hope those two get their own series.
Reading like a big-budget Hollywood action-adventure, Into the Dark offers all the thrills and chills any romance lover could want! While I highly recommend Into the Dark, I would suggest folks also read the third Bodyguards book, To the Brink first. To the Brink provides a good bit of back-story and makes Into the Dark that much better.

Not What I Expected.......2007-07-22
First of all let me say I love all the books in this series except for this one so far. I haven't read Manny's book yet. I was so looking forward to Dallas and Amy's story since their introduction. I wanted to feel their connection that they felt in that book but it was not meant to be. This book felt rushed to me. There's a lot of grammatical errors and plot holes. Just think Ms. Gerard didn't take her time. There really wasn't a build up to this one and the first time they re-meet it was so rushed and not wrote out. It was weird. I'm not going into the plot since so many on here already have but I just felt it was not as realistic as her other books. I just felt like it wasn't given the care that the others were. It's still a good book but it's not great. I loved that it gave you updates on the other family members.
A phenominal conclusion to Cindy Gerard's Bodyguard series.......2007-07-17
"Cindy Gerard has outdone herself penning a phenomenal conclusion with INTO THE DARK, Book #6 in her The Bodyguards series for St. Martin's (June 2007). INTO THE DARK sheds light on what has happened to terrorist hostage, Amy Walker, who first appeared in TO THE BRINK (1/06) after being rescued in the jungle by former Force Recon Marine turned
bodyguard, Dallas Garrett, and then disappeared upon their return to the U.S. Six months later Dallas, who runs E.D.E.N., Inc. protection agency with his siblings, is ready to leave for a trip to look for Amy when she shows up and collapses on his West Palm Beach doorstep. Dallas is sure Amy's in trouble when she mumbles about not wanting to be found. After she rests and they make love, Amy tries to sneak out on Dallas again because she doesn't want to put him in danger. But Dallas convinces Amy to confide in him and she divulges an incredible story about her German physician grandfather being in the SS and doing mind-control work for the Nazi's during and after World War II with her mother as one of his test subjects. Amy has been working in a mental hospital in New York where her mother is a patient while doing research to locate her grandfather and the secret organization that experiments on people against their wills. When someone tries to kill her after leaving work one night, Amy knows she's in terrible danger. Dallas has his own demons dealing with PTSD from his military missions. Amy's research trail, thanks to a journalist's article, leads her and Dallas to Argentina. Do not buy the CD set!.......2007-10-01
I love Douglas Adams, and I love to hear his recordings of his books.
I like The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul well enough to have worn out my audio tapes.
I bought the CD version, but disk 6 is a messed up recording. It starts repeating parts and pieces of the same chapter over and over and never gets to the end of the book. The end of the story is not included on the last disk. I am not the only one to have found it so. You will be left hanging.
Not Free SF Reader.......2007-09-03
Still odd, this private investigator.
This is much of a muchness with the last book, but the act wears thing after having it done the first time around. Dirk still has dodgy fridge hygiene. The plot if you want to call it that this time has to do with a possible deity, some blowing up of stuff including people, and an annoying album also features.
The Not Long Enough, Not Dark Enough Decaf Tea Time of the Soul.......2007-08-13
The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul is a mostly enjoyable book in Douglas Adams typical style, but it is uncharacteristically soul-less. The book begins, as books are wont to do, by introducing us to a cast of seemingly unconnected characters living seemingly unconnected lives filled with seemingly unconnected events. As the book progresses, these characters, their aforementioned lives, and the aforementioned events come together in strange and mostly interesting ways. The story moves along well enough until near the end. As I read, I eventually reached a point where there were very few pages left to read, and there was still a great deal of explaining left to do. At this point I suspected that the book would end with either; A) A less than adequate explanation for the plot points, or; B) A great deal of explanation jammed into the remaining few pages. Sadly, it turned out to be both. I would like to be able to recommend this work based on the first 7/8ths of the book. But, the final 1/8th of the book goes a long way toward overwhelming the preceeding pages with a hurried, splotchy, and unsatisfying climax. I rarely feel that any book could benefit from actually being longer, but that is indeed the case with Adams' TLDTTOTS. It seems as if the author reached a certain point in the writing process, then lost interest in the project, and wrapped it up as quickly as possible, throwing quality to the wind. If you like Douglas Adams other works, you will probably like this one. If you're not an Adams fan, the ending will leave you feeling decaffinated.
typical wit, but ending lacks steam.......2007-07-25
About the first 75% of this book was full of typical Adams' unpredictable wit, peculiar characters and the most unusual situations ever drempt of. This is why I read Adams' - refreshing to read something which isn't so cold and lacking subplots, which are typically hilarious.
However, the last 25% seemed to be lacking everything one expects from an Adams' novel. The first Holisitc Detective Agency book was much better in regards to cover to cover wit. Long Dark Tea-time just lost all of its steam once it came to the three-quarters point. It was too descriptive and at the same time lacking any humor in the description. It would have been easy to hack out a few of the ending chapters.
Disappointed.
Adams typical wit.......2007-06-10
A good yarn with a sprinkling of wit and attention to detail in linking everyone together and tying up loose ends by the end of the book. Not his best but a good read as long as you like a spot of fantasy and intrigue.

Marvels Ignorance and You.......2006-09-10
Like the name of the review suggests dont let Marvels ignorance of Star Wars hinder your purchase of this item. Based on what we know now of Star Wars the stories in this volume will seem kind of strange and a tad weak. Truthfully there are a quite a few really good stories in this volume, including the Clone Wars Obi-Wan story that is included. Its pretty cool to read a story made in '78 about events that we finally saw and read about today (The Clone Wars).
Another great story but very strange is the introduction of Jabba the HuT (yes one T) For any Star Wars fan it should be interesting how Jabba the Hutt had evolved to the slug we see in ROTJ. In this one he is anyting but what we expected hes a Humanoid with tusks. Hes rich and he even has underlings that do his dirty buisness and its kind of cool to see him in such a light.
This is a must read collection for any true Star Wars fan
Classic Marvel Star Wars.......2004-02-03
I read the first volume in this series, "Doomworld," and enjoyed it, but thought it was a bit corny and too cartoonish in places. I was surprised and pleased that the comics got much better with time.
A good portion of this set of 19 comics revolves around the Tagge family, who generally opposes Darth Vader, but also opposes the rebellion. Baron Tagge even hopes to supplant Darth Vader himself, though we know where such schemes end. In "Doom Mission," we find Baron Tagge has created a space station within the stormy atmosphere of the gas giant Yavin where Tie fighters launch attacks against the rebel base on the fourth moon. This story is quite creative with how Baron Tagge created the space station, how it was discovered and how it was eventually attacked.
There are quite a few creative moments in the various stories. In a series of three stories, "The Jawa Express," "Saber Clash," and "Thunder in the Stars," we see the Tagge family test and implement an interesting device that freezes anything between implanted towers. The Tagge family uses this device as a weapon against rebel forces.
In one of the most creative stories, "Riders in the Void," we find Luke and Leia have jumped into the void between galaxies. In one of the emptiest places in the universe Luke and Leia discover a unique, organic space ship with only one inhabitant, who is marginally insane. The ship and its inhabitant have an interesting and unique history, and there are moments when I wondered how Luke and Leia were going to escape.
Creature creation was similarly unique and better than in the first 20 comics of "Doomworld." In "The Long Hunt/A Duel of Eagles" we meet the winged people of Skye. In "Cavern of the Crawling Death" we learn about stone mites that destroy everything they contact as they eat it.
There are a few departures from the Star Wars universe as we know it today that are forgivable given that the second two Star Wars movies had yet to be released. We see a Jabba the Hut very different from the slug-like creature we came to know and loathe. We also see the continuing romance between Luke and Leia, though we also know that they are brother and sister. Yet, the general tone of the stories fits well within the Star Wars universe, and the astute reader can see some of the substantial creativity yet to come.
If you read "Doomworld" and liked it, you'll find that "Dark Encounters" is substantially better and more interesting. The quality of the stories is still lower than the general caliber of the Dark Horse stories, but some of them are very creative and interesting. For those readers that look back fondly on memories of comics from the 60s and 70s, these are the types of stories that you remember well. Enjoy!
Solid Improvement.......2003-09-20
3.5 stars actually.
The artwork, and the plotting improves dramatically in this second collection of Marvel stories. Unlike most of the first collection, these stories mostly feel like they could take place in the Star Wars universe and are viable adventures that the heroes could have had before The Empire Strikes Back.
Still though, they are not stellar work by any means, merely solid. In retrospect, due to the authors not knowing where George Lucas was going, some of the things you see cause some cognitive dissonance. No fault of the authors, but it is still jarring to see things you know are untrue.
Decent artwork, and stories in a rather large collection make this a worthwhile collection if you'd like to read a sort of slightly altered universe of what the Star Wars characters did between the movies.
Green Rabbits and Cyborg Bounty Hunters..........2002-07-22
I've just ordered the reprint trade paperback reprints of these Marvel books. I remember reading and re-reading all of these "beyond the movie" adventures when I was a kid. It was just such an incredible charge to see what Luke, Han, and company were doing between the movies. Water worlds, gambling satellites, Darth Vader learning the name of the Death Star's destroyer(a nice plot device), the blocky artwork and awkward poses of Carmine Infantino artwork, wondering WHY these adventurers NEVER changed their clothes as they NEVER seemed to make their way back to Yavin Base after their Flash Gordon-esque side-adventures... Oh, and we can't forget that Obi-Wan Jedi story with the droid 68RKO (which were the call letters of a radio station if I'm not mistaken)...They really DID capture the imagination. Hopefully, Dark Horse will get around to publishing a VOLUME 3 because therein lie the BEST Marvel STAR WARS tales. But these first two will take you to a Long Time Ago in a Decade Not Far Away Enough--The Seventies. You'll see the pop-cultural impact of the first wave of STAR WARS mania, in many ways as endearingly cheesy as that Thanksgiving Holiday special. If you remember these, you will LOVE them all over again...if you don't, then prepare to be mightily entertained, whether you like comics, STAR WARS, or pop-culture in general. These books definitely belong on your shelf...

Mediocre first time effort.......2007-09-12
I have never read anything by Brenda Joyce prior to this book. I snapped it up in the store after seeing it was Highlanders and time travel - two of my favorites. I wish I would have read a page or two here and there before I bought it. It was so annoying to have the exclamation "she cried" in every fourth sentence. Claire was annoying enough without it. I had a very hard time picturing her as a strong independent woman because all she did was whine. At one point Malcolm calls her arrogant and I think that is an understatement. She talks down to Malcolm and plots to get her way instead of listening to what he has to say. Claire was not very believable or likeable. I did like Malcolm. He's your typical gorgeous laird, with fears and torments who is supposed to find a good woman and save him from himself. Instead he gets Claire. I think the author was trying way too hard in this book. The plot is jangled and a little on the bizare side. I know it is supposed to be a fantasy but even in a fantasy point a is supposed to lead to point b not some convoluted path in between. The whole pleasure crime bit is not realistic. I gave it two stars because of Malcolm. If you are want to read this one borrow it. I am going to give this series another chance but I will borrow it before I buy it to see if the kinks get worked out in the second installment. Royce and Aidan also were bright spots in this book so possibly the next one will be better.
Forced myself through 3 chapters.......2007-08-24
I love Brenda Joyce's historicals, but this book was awful. The whole pleasure crime thing made me very uncomfortable. I really tried to like it, but gave up after it became obvious it wasn't going to improve.
I couldn't put it down!.......2007-07-16
I started this book because I had nothing else to read and by the third chapter I couldn't put it down! Brenda Joyce brings you into a world that is amazing! I fell in love with all of the characters and I can't wait to read the next Masters of Time book. Sigh... This book just drips emotion, sensuality and intrigue. I am very impressed and can't wait for more! Good job Brenda! :o) (I happen to like the paranormal change!)
Save your money!!!.......2007-07-16
What is it with all of these authors who are hastily jumping on the vampire romance bandwagon? First Nora Roberts and now Brenda Joyce?? My curiosity got the best of me and I lost $6.99 on this book. Come on Brenda, a "pleasure crime"?? Really? Come on! It was like her heroine came from this alternate universe where these things were commonplace but the author did her readers a disservice by not providing enough exposition about the heroine's environment. Steamy sex every other page just wasn't working. If I wanted hard core sex scenes, I would pick up an Ellora's Cave book. I wanted a great story and instead, I found an author who is desparately making a transition from historical romances to this?!?! Save your money!!
Not her best!!.......2007-07-14
What happened to books like "Promise of The Rose", "The Game", "Secrets", or "The Conqueror"? What happened to BJ's ( no pun intended) writing??? This book lacks so much I don't know where to start.... I am truly dissapointed and I can't even say if I will get the other books in this series. Brenda Joyce has totally let me down with this book. I am hoping that her lastest book in the "De Warenne" family saga will be better.
Color me dissapointed with this one!

So-So at Best.......2007-08-09
My son is a very advanced reader for his age (a 7 yo consistently reading at a 4-5 grade level) and I was looking for a series of books to challenge him and get him interested in reading chapter books. My son prefers non-fiction over fiction, so I thought this would be a good series since it weaves factual learning into the fictional storyline. However, I must say that I am extremely disappointed. This book did not hold my son's attention at all, and it was extremely boring to read out loud together. Most disappointing to me was the horrible writing style. The book is full of short, even fragmented sentences. I feel this sets a terrible example for children just learning to read and write. An example from page 19:
"Jack stepped forward. He put out his arm. Very cautiously. He brushed his hand down the creature's neck."
Another example from page 22:
"The creature fixed his eyes on Annie. His long jaws were opening and closing. Like a giant pair of scissors."
I mean, come on. Why couldn't the author just combine the last 2 sentences into one grammatically correct sentence?
I do agree with other reviews that this series may attract those children who are reluctant to read. If you are looking for books with substance that will be cherished for years to come, this may not be the best choice.
Great Chapter Read Aloud..........2007-07-02
My children 5 and 3 love this series. They are so excited to hear what happens next in Jack and Annie's adventure. The book is simple enough for young listeners to follow along. However, be prepared to add your OWN drama with voice intonations and expression. We truly enjoyed Dinosaurs Before Dark so much that we have bought the next 2 books in the series. Also, check out the research companions for each book. This has brought non-fiction excitement into our read alouds as well.
Dinosaurs before Dark.......2007-05-26
I gave the book 5 stars.I liked the book very much. I liked the characters and adventure.Second graders would like this book.Girls and boys and people who like dinouars. Before Jack and Annie can find out,the mysterious treehouse takes them back to figure out how to get home.
Dinosaur Days With Jack and Annie.......2007-04-20
Dinosaurs Before Dark was written by Mary Pope Osborne. The text copyright date is 1992. The book is found in most book stores.
Jack and Annie found a magic tree house. They climbed in and it took them back to the time of the dinosaur. In the land of the dinosaurs they find friend, foe, and gold! Something gets in the way of Jack going home. To find out Jack's problem read the book!

Book Description
The dark matter problem is one of the most fundamental and profoundly difficult problems in the history of science. Not knowing what makes up most of the mass in the Universe goes to the heart of our understanding of the Universe and our place in it. In Search of Dark Matter is the story of the emergence of the dark matter problem, from the initial 'discovery' of dark matter by Jan Oort to contemporary explanations for the nature of dark matter and its role in the origin and evolution of the Universe.
Written for the intelligent non-scientist and scientist alike, it spans a variety of scientific disciplines, from observational astronomy to particle physics. Concepts that the reader will encounter along the way are at the cutting edge of scientific research. However the themes are explained in such a way that no prior understanding of science beyond a high school education is necessary.

In Search of Dark Matter.......2007-08-04
I found this book to be very informative, up to date, and could be understood by the layman
An EXCELLENT book on Dark Matter.......2007-05-10
This book sets out the evidence for missing matter in the universe in an entertaining yet thorough way. There is virtually no math in the entire book, and yet each subject area is treated fully. I had thought the first evidence for dark matter was star rotation rates in galaxies as set out by Vera Rubin and others. However this book traces the roots of the "something is wrong with our picture of the universe" back to the 1930s and Fritz Zwicky and Jan Oort--two astronomers who could not be more different from each other. And that is another strength of this book--we learn something about Zwicky and Oort without being seriously sidetracked.
"In Search of Dark Matter" strikes a perfect balance between moving the story along (and it does read like a story) and stopping here and there for brief asides about the personalities and milieu involved at the various stages of dark matter research. Finally, alternatives such as MOND theory are discussed. This book is not a deep tome--it is only roughly 150 pages. But it certainly piqued my interest and made me want to find out more. The authors succeed in bringing up most topics assuming little or no background in astronomy, yet don't get mired explaining the basics. A great read!
Excellent Book.......2007-02-22
The book is very well organized and enjoyable to read. Well done!

Awesome.......2006-07-26
I found this my favourite book in the series. It was very suspenseful and I couldn't put it down. I read both this one and the Key in one day. I loved how Akarians perspective on everything that's happening is voice , unlike in the first where the reader is unsure of why he is saying some things. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and would reccomend it to all fantasy/magic lovers!
Amazing Book........2006-01-11
I loved this book. It's a very good second book in the guardians of time trilogy. I did find this book to go by more slowly than the other two books. This maybe the worst book of the guardians of time trilogy.. but if you read it you'll realise that man, if this is the worst book in the guardians of time trilogy I gotta read the rest.
The Guardians Of Time Trilogy is a really suspenseful type of trilogy mainly suited for young adults. It has a really unique type of excitement in it. In the end you will want to read the next book, The Key, and continue your journey through this exciting trilogy called The Guardians Of Time.
Awsome.......2005-10-04

The dark is an awsome book if you nejoy fantasy and magic. It is filled with emotion and triumph. This book is the sequel to THE NAMED. It is truly the best book ever, aside from THE KEY. The Dark fills readers with a treamendous joy and romance. If you want more, read the book youreself. It truly is an expirience different from anything else. :P
My Favorite Book.......2005-07-23
This is seriously the best book I have ever read!! 5 stars is simply not enough!! I can't think of a number big enough! There isn't one! Or if there is it stops the smallest amount possible away from being infinite, because infinity isn't a number. You seriously have to read this book!!!
didn't like the end.......2005-03-30
I enjoyed the book a lot. The only thing that spoiled it was the ending. I love scary stories and i enjoyed the named. It also took me a long time to get used to the fact that Arkarian is 600 years old, i know he only looks 18 but it's still weird. The book would have been better if it was arkarian that made the major change in their lives and given back the not aging past 18 gift to be with Isabel instead of Isabel sacrificing everything to not age and be with Arkarian
