5 out of 5 stars Theatre Teachers: This Is What You Need.......2006-11-10

This book is formatted so easily, it took me MUCH less time than I thought it would to prepare a unit on reader's theatre for my class. I used it for my high school theatre class so they wouldn't have to concentrate on large vocabularies, but rather to deliver the story in a simple, easy way. It was a HUGE success of a project and this book made it possible. It tells you how long each story is, what cast you'll need, and what reading level it is!! Yay!!!
The stories themselves are entertaining (even for high school!!!), compelling, and really fun to work with. I am SO grateful I ordered this!

5 out of 5 stars A Great Resource.......2006-01-11

Aaron Shepard is a generous contributor to the field of Reader's Theatre. This book is no exception. It's well-laid out and chock-full of interesting scripts. I've recommended to several folks interested in RT.

5 out of 5 stars The Princess Dairies.......2005-03-16

Mia has always been labeled as one thing, a freak! Mia, who is a freshman in high school, finds out that she is the heir to Genovia. Everyday after school, Mia has to attend princess lessons with her less than friendly grandma. Also, her mom is dating her teacher. Mia tries very hard to keep her being a princess a secret, but someone blabbed, because of this, Mia's best friend will not talk to her because they got in a huge fight about secrets. Mia however, stands up for herself, against Lily for the first time in her life. Mia has another problem, is also the only freshman who doesn't have date for the cultural dance.
I really enjoyed this book. It was funny, and smart, but a little perverted. The Princess Dairies was the first book I liked that was written in Dairy form. I recommend this book to any girl. There are a total of 3 books in the series, and Mia's journey to become a princess continues in the second book, Princess in the Spotlight. I can't wait to read the second book.

4 out of 5 stars Perfect Princess: A Fun Read Fit For a Princess.......2005-02-20

Just who in scociety is an appropriate role model for rising princesses like ourselfs? Ask Grandmere. From Anastasia to the princess and the pea, you'll definately find at least one role model, as long as you don't like Xena. Of course, the most appropriate role model for anyone is Grandmere. Or Buffy or Princess Leia. Just don't tell Grandmere. In addition to this, Paolo and Sebastiono explain the princapessa's reign over fashion and which princesses looked like mods (models), Tina fills you in on the married princesses, Lilly dishes on powerful princesses, and Michael talks about his ideal pincesses. Sprinkled throughout are random acts of princess (if you have milk in your tea, it's NOT VEAGAN, Mia) and commentary by Mia. I found some of her comments rude, insulting, and not funny, but aside from this the book was a delightful easy read.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect Princess: A Princess Diaries Book (Princess Diaries).......2004-10-04

This book is good for a laugh... it's not really a reading book though.

2 out of 5 stars Unexpected.......2004-08-29

I expected this book to be about Mia Thermopolis and her princessness but it's just a non-fiction book about royalty role-models. It's good if you like that sort of stuff, but I don't so that's why I gave it 2 stars.

4 out of 5 stars Charming and Witty.......2004-04-15

Me being the HUGE Princess Diaries fan, loved this new book in which Mia introduces you to the many princess of the world and teaches the concepts on how to become a perfect princess. From how to eat, talk, stand, make an incredible entrance, or how to wear a tiara, Mia creates another funny page-turner with these hiliarious questions of what makes a perfect princess. From old princesses, young princesses, real princesses, to fiction princesses, Mia analyzes how each exhibits the sings of a true princess. My favorite had to be WuZeTian(I'm Asian and Chinese). Couldn't believe she was in there. Mia just about covered every princess I could ever think about.

Like Princess Lessons this book should probably only be read by true Princess Diaries fans.(I did find it slightly better than Princess Lessons) I really enjoyed it, though I could tell if someone would find it kinda boring if they weren't a true fan. You don't have to read this book to get the series since nothing is connected. It is just a fun book for those of us who dream of becoming princesses one day.

Book Description

Nationally bestselling author of Princess Charming

Elizabeth Thornton has created one of her most thrilling and sensuous novels ever — the story of a woman who’s nearly given up her hope of finding a noble hero...until fate throws her unexpectedly into a breathtaking plot to save a scoundrel.

Lady Rosamund Devere has no interest in becoming the wife of a dull prince, no matter how perfect the newspapers think she is for that role. But not even the unconventional Rosamund could imagine the headline the papers will soon be running: the one where she is the willing hostage of a condemned murderer.

Yet Richard Maitland is no ordinary criminal. Steely-eyed, arrogant, and dangerously attractive, the ex-chief of His Majesty’s Secret Service is also, as far as Rosamund is concerned, guilty as sin.

Caught up in his daring escape on the eve of his execution, Rosamund, who can handle a gun as well as any man and is not afraid to use it, soon finds herself in every bit as much danger as Richard. For the more she learns about this mysterious lone wolf of a man, the more determined she is to help him clear his name.

But even more perilous than the conspiracy surrounding Richard is the passion that ignites between them — a passion that is rash, reckless, and impossible to resist.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Perfect Historical Mystery Romance.......2006-11-22

The Perfect Princess by Elizabeth Thornton was the perfect mix of mystery and romance. Rosamund the Duke's daughter goes to the prison to see a convicted murder with her bestfriend and gets kidnapped by the 'convicted murder' Richard Maitland. Buy this book and every book by this author you can't fail.

2 out of 5 stars Contrived and inconsistent.......2004-12-09

Sorry, but I cannot support the general "how great this is" sentiment. Elizabeth Thornton is a talented author, but this particular book is inconsistent and very contrived. All goes well up to our hero's escape from jail, which is interestingly executed and deserves 4 stars. However, from there ... the "who did it" aspect is non-existent (we find out from alternate point-of-view chapters quite early on); her body guards letting her go into a jail without escort is absurd; the author states clearly in the opening that lady is extremely polite and likable, but she doesn't act that way after entering the jail (she immediately transforms into bold adventure woman); the hero keeping her captive for so long feels contrived; everyone you can shake a stick at decides that he is innocent and must be helped; she falls in love with him without him once making her feel desired or desirable; and so on. What this book really needs is a technical reviewer to go through & tighten up all of the loose ends & inconsistencies. The first few chapters promised an lady concerned that she is too nice, too accomodating, too sheltered, and yet unable to change her basic personality. Had that personality been maintained, this would have been a better book.

5 out of 5 stars Elizabeth Thornton is WONDERFUL.......2004-08-31

Like everyone else has written, I can't stop reading her books! I just happened to pick up the Princess series because I can't resist princess plots. I was slightly disappointed that they aren't real princesses, but I quickly got over that as I began to read. I am now on the fourth book by Miss Thornton in so many days! I'm glad I had a long weekend to read! After so many other bad authors with tiring heroines and dreary heros with weak plots, it was a joy to find an author who knows how to write good characters with plot. If you're looking for steamy, X-rated sex scenes with no actual plot, then this is not your author. If you want historical romance that has you cheering the characters and feverishly trying to discover the villian, then Read ON!!!!

5 out of 5 stars This is when the ratings need more stars to give.......2003-03-05

This was my favorite Elizabeth Thornton book so far! She is a fantastic author. I had almost given up on romances because so many of them have little storyline and only sex, the heroines are empty headed, childish and irritating and the heros just not interesting enough. But when I picked up Elizabeth Thornton's books, I was hooked from the beginning. The Perfect Princess is the 6th book I have read so far (one right after the other) and it is definitely the one I like the best. I have enjoyed all of them, but this one was the most enjoyable. Richard Maitland was a fantastic, sexy, tough, non-perfect hero and Rosamund was one of the best heroines I have found in a long, long time. The interaction between the two characters was very enjoyable - from their fights to their lovemaking. I don't know how this one can be topped. Maybe if the author wrote a book focusing on lovable Harper. I don't really like reading books from this time period, but Ms. Thornton has done a wonderful job of combining mystery, romance, and humor that she has now been put on my favorite author list. This one - in my opinion - is a definite winner and worth the reading time.

5 out of 5 stars Another Excellent Story.......2003-03-04

I have read 5 of Elizabeth Thornton's books back to back within the last couple of weeks of "discovering" her. I really like her books. I didn't like Richard Maitland in Princess Charming, but I definitely fell for him in this book. I think this one is one of my favorites! Elizabeth Thornton is a very talented author. I like her combination of mystery, romance and humor. Her heros are sexy, tough and gentle. Her heroines are not irritating airheads. I would highly recommend this author! I just wish she would bring Harper his love mate!

This book, the series, are incrediable. They are amazingly accurate, every happening seems to be researched, every thing is thought out. The way this series describes magic is so belivable, so...logical. the book, as all the books in her series, is so intense, i always seem to be thinking how the hell are they going to pull this off? and she makes it fit together perfectly. If you love magic, dragons, fantasy, mystery, you will love all of her books.

    I fully recommend this series!

    2 out of 5 stars blah.......1998-12-14

I wouldn't say this was a BAD book--well, not an AWFUL book--but it definitely was not a very compelling story. I didn't finish it (I know, you're thinking, "don't knock it till you've read it!") but this is one of the few books that has EVER failed to hold my interest until the end. It's not romantic, even in the love scenes; it's not exciting, even in the chase scenes; it's not filled with interesting concepts, even in the "magic" scenes... It's just bland, bland, bland.

5 out of 5 stars It was very exciting! I couldn't put it down!.......1998-08-13

The Perfect Princess was full of magical mystical events! It was also very suspensful! I would recommend this wonderful book to anyone who enjoys fantasy and magic!

          Product Description

Probing the human causes of Africa s continuing travails, a London-educated Kenyan princess examines official policies that do more harm than good, while poking fun at Western hypocrisy and greed, and African vanity and passivity, as well.

If the United States is based on the principle that all men are created equal, why, the author asks, does the West treat Africa and Africans differently? Just what kind of democracy is being exported, when only the West s interests are served?

In an incisive view of the relationship between Africa and the West, a London-educated Kenyan princess suggests that the aid machinery hurts Africa more than it assists. Westerners (and successful Africans alike) perpetuate the negative image of Africa to assuage their consciences as they continue to rip off a rich continent, while deploring the poverty they themselves help to keep in place.

Western citizenry have been schooled to think that their countries are wealthy because they are smarter or work harder a belief fostered to support hegemonic delusions. Just as artificial, she argues, is the notion that Africa s alleged poverty and the West s staggering economic and military might could be related to skin color or the scientifically preposterous notion of race.
The truth, the author maintains, is that they are rich because they have robbed and still rob their wealth from the rest of the world, creating poor countries precisely where the greatest natural wealth is found. American and European corporations, and now Chinese as well, whisk away Africa s resources to enrich their own economies and peoples.

The author looks at contemporary political, humanitarian and economic trends, assessing the World Bank, WTO, G8 and the IMF to be the long arms of the world oligarchies, primarily the USA. She considers NGOs a menace to Africa while serving as a job-creation blessing to the rich nations. She suggests the aid industry does more harm than good, dissuading Africans from defending their turf while foreign corporations scoop up all the resources.

She analyzes the negative picture people (of North and South as well) have of Africa, and shows that those who are making huge profits out of the continent do their best to perpetuate the negative image of Africa to assuage their consciences.
She makes no bones about the collective psychic damage and self-hate so prevalent among Africans, and contrasts the political, social and intellectual apathy this has induced with the aggression, ignorance and arrogance of those of European descent.

This title builds on the discussion raised in Empire of Shame by UN Special Commissioner Jean Ziegler, and World Bank official Robert Calderisi s The Trouble With Africa. It is written for readers interested in world politics, socio-economics and the distribution of wealth and power between the industrialized and developing countries, with special interest on Africa; students and professors of political science and the humanities; the African and African-American intelligentsia, organizations such as UNESCO, NGOs, civil societies and political activists.
