Elizabeth, a beautiful princess, lives in a castle and wears fancy clothes. Just when she is about to marry Prince Ronald, a dragon smashes her castle, burns her clothes with his fiery breath, and prince-naps her dear Ronald. Undaunted and presumably unclad, she dons a large paper bag and sets off to find the dragon and her cherished prince. Once she's tracked down the rascally reptile, she flatters him into performing all sorts of dragonly stunts that eventually exhaust him, allowing her to rescue Prince Ronald. But what does Prince Not-So-Charming say when he sees her? "You smell like ashes, your hair is all tangled and you are wearing a dirty old paper bag. Come back when you are dressed like a real princess." (At least he has the courtesy not to mention that the princess's crown resembles a dying sea anemone.) In any case, let's just say that Princess Elizabeth and Prince Ronald do not, under any circumstances, live happily ever after. Canadian author Robert Munsch celebrates feisty females everywhere with this popular favorite, and Michael Martchenko's scratchy, comical, pen-and-ink drawings capture the tongue-in-cheek quality of this read-aloud crowd pleaser. (Ages 4 to 8) --Karin Snelson

Book Description

The Princess Elizabeth is slated to marry Prince Ronald when a dragon attacks the castle and kidnaps Ronald. In resourceful and humorous fashion, Elizabeth finds the dragon, outsmarts him, and rescues Ronald --- who is less than pleased at her un-princess-like appearance. Full color throughout.

1 out of 5 stars read it before you buy it.......2007-09-12

All the hype made it sound like a book filled the sort of things you would want your girls to take to heart- except that the story line is weak and the writing lacking...not worthy of our time....

5 out of 5 stars Great For All Girls.......2007-05-26

Get this book for all little girls (and not so little girls). Our little princesses should not dream about marrying princes. This book is about a princess who saves the prince, only to realize that he's not good enough for her.

5 out of 5 stars The most AWESOME GIRL POWER fairy tale ever!!!.......2007-05-19

I was introduced to this story by my daughter's kindergarten teacher many years ago, and it made me laugh!
Since then, I've read and recommended this story to countless Girl Scout leaders and parents...it's the ultimate "Have confidence in yourself" fairy tale, and every 5 year old girl should memorize it!!! No more damsels in distress waiting to be rescued!
Buy this book and pass it on to future generation!

4 out of 5 stars Corny, but cute.......2007-05-14

My kids thought this book was rather silly, but they liked it, so...

5 out of 5 stars Princess Power!.......2007-05-06

For all of you parents, guardians, and supportive "others" in a little girl's life, PLEASE beg, borrow, or buy this book for her! Every princess needs to know that they can be strong, and it's OK to say No.

The last time fairy princess Nineva Morrow engaged in magic, evil forces rendered her an orphan-isolated and incapable of trusting in anyone's survival. But after years of hiding on Earth, she'll use her powers once more-and attract more knights than she can handle

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars My second Knight book, but I'm still a fan.......2007-09-20

Nineva Morrow is a princess of the sidhe, an avatar to the goddess Semira, and the only thing that stands between the Mageverse and the Dark Ones. Since birth, Nineva has been raised to believe that she will free Semira from an enchanted sword, and that in order to do so she will have to sacrifice herself to a blue dragon. Little did Nineva know that the blue dragon in question, Kel, would turn out to be her soul mate, and that together they would save the Mageverse from certain doom.

Master of Dragons is only my second Angela Knight book, but I'm still a huge fan of her work. Even though this book is number 8 in the Mageverse series, it's the first I've read in this storyline. That being said, there were definitely times when I knew I might have benefited from a little more background, but the story can definitely be read--and enjoyed--without that sort of grounding force. I liked this story, and will be sure to go back and read some of the others.

Nineva was an interesting heroine. She was born to be a martyr and her self-righteousness and determination to free Semira at all costs were both amusing and irritating. I think it took a hero of Kel's protective, arrogant, and strong nature to temper my initial dislike of her. By the time these two finally decided to make things work and combine their forces for the good of the Mageverse, I was feeling better about them both. Master of Dragons took some getting used to for me (but remember it's my first Mageverse book, so I'm probably in the minority), but once I started liking it, I couldn't wait to find out what happened. Read this book if you're in the mood for a romantic sci-fi fantasy story with a couple who is not afraid to kick a little tail.

3 out of 5 stars took a while to read it .......2007-09-06

I usually can read 1 book a day if it's really good. This one took me 4 days. It's not bad, but kinda boring and found myself skipping paragraphs to get through it. I was looking forward to Kel's book but I think he was more interesting in Master of Swords than in this one. I love sex in books but this one got to be a bit much. After about the 5th explicit love scene I just started skipping the sex scenes which is something I never do. It was like, allright already, get on with the story.

4 out of 5 stars A good re-read.......2007-08-16

I have read this book twice since I bought it. The series seems to be getting better and better as she goes along.

5 out of 5 stars Angela Does it again!.......2007-08-13

Once again Angela Knight brings fantasy and a great story together again. This time Kell gets to show us just what he is made of and we were definately not disappointed. The story was exciting, sexy and definately kept my attention through the whole book. Angela shows you the struggle that Kell and Nineva go through to fit in. She brings that life or death struggle that they are going through, yet also give you that sexual tension that they have together. A dragon and a Goddess what a combination and what a story. This is a must read!

5 out of 5 stars Master of Dragons: Magical.......2007-08-09

Ms. Knight once more delivers her magic touch.
Master of Dragons is the first title I've read in the series, but it won't be the last. I plan on buying the rest of the Mageverse series.

Kell is a wonderful hero and Nineva is the perfect heroine for him.
The worldbuilding is seamless, the plot kept me turning the pages.

Bravo, Ms. Knight for a truly wonderful tale of magic and love.
I am never disappointed when I pick up a book by Angela Knight.

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful way to remember pi.......2007-01-25

I feel the age range given on the website should not be ages 4-8. This is appropriate for 8 and up. That said, my 5 year old enjoys it as just a fairy tale and I would not attempt any "teaching" to him. He listens as I read it to my older daughters and maybe it will seep in so when he's old enough to begin measuring, he will easily grasp the concepts.

This is a wonderful book - good illustrations and a clever story. The author works the math part in without it being cumbersome. A few times through this book and your child will have a good grasp of pi. At the least, it will be a good memory trigger if he/she needs help in class.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book .......2007-01-09

This is a great book to teach kids about the number pi. This is a book that makes math fun and gets kids interested in learning math.

5 out of 5 stars This book is a BLAST!.......2005-07-23

My kids love this book! They range in age from an 11 yr old girl to a 3 yr old boy and they all enjoy it! My son loves the story and the knights and adventure. And, he is learning something in the process. My older kids enjoy the story also but on a different level and it also reinforces what they have already learned! What a great concept! I can't wait for more to come out! We already own all 4!

5 out of 5 stars Great for Middle School kids.......2005-04-11

I have use this book in my middle school classroom. The kids enjoy it. Yes, it is silly but heck so are middle school kids! Since reading the book and discussing it, the kids have a much better understanding of what pi really is, instead of just saying about 3.14.

4 out of 5 stars Discovering PI in a mid evil kind of way........2004-11-16

Radius has to discover PI in order to save his father, Sir cumference from the evil curse of the fire breathing Dragon. I read this book to a fourth grade class and they really got a kick out of it. They wanted to learn pie along with Radius through his adventures to conquer the curse. This is a creative way to introduce a math lesson to children. There is even places to stop and let the kids try a couple problems. The activities include measuring and dividing. Teachers this is a must have.

I bought both of her books at the same time based on reviews I'd read. Save your money. Just a huge dissapointment. Or if you just have to read it, buy it second hand or get it from the library.

5 out of 5 stars My review.......2007-05-11

This is a great third book in the series. The Dragons are so lifelike in this series. I can't wait for the others. The Author brings these beings to life.

5 out of 5 stars A Recommended Read from Fallen Angel Reviews.......2007-03-08

In the northern wilds, a young woman and young dragon fight for their lives and their freedom from an evil warlord. Having escaped once, they will not be caught again. Lana and her friend Tor have learned to evade the warlord's troops and his devious war tactics. When an unlucky black dragon falls victim to his wiles, Tor and Lana risk all to save him.

Roland cannot believe that he has been saved by a young dragon healer and her ice dragon. Not only are dragon healers a thing of legends, but so are the mighty ice dragons. As war threatens Draconia yet again, these two new allies may be what they need to tip the scales in their favor.

Ok, I have to say it; no one does dragons like Bianca D'Arc. With the third in the Dragon Knights series, she continues to awe me with her characters and her fertile imagination. Lana is a fantastically strong yet vulnerable woman who has so much to deal with. Not only has she found safety, but she's learned about herself and who she truly is. Roland... how can you not love a man who can do what that man can? He is a wonderfully sensitive man who is there with Lana every step of the way. With a fantastic twist that comes out of nowhere, The Ice Dragon is very much a Recommended Read.

5 out of 5 stars 5 Klovers! Courtesy of CK2S Kwips & Kritiques.......2007-01-11

Tor, a rare Ice Dragon, is hatched by the lost princess, Lana. When they save a royal Black Dragon from certain death, they find love, family and their destinies.

As an avid fan of Bianca D'Arc's Dragon Knights series, I bought the third release in that series, The Ice Dragon the very morning it was released and read it the same night. I was not disappointed. D'Arc manages to keep the story fresh and yet satisfyingly familiar simultaneously, with just the right balance of sweet and sexy bound by an engaging story.

While some authors may be tempted to stick to a successful formula for a series, D'Arc's imagination refuses to settle for such trite manipulation. It is rare that a story actually manages to surprise me, and yet this story includes a delightful twist that caught me off-guard. In spite of the surprise element, the twist was a very natural culmination to the story, and never once seemed contrived.

As usual, D'Arc also strews the ground with breadcrumbs for future stories in the Dragon Knights series, leaving her fans breathless in anticipation for the next story! Indeed, the reader is left with the certainty that the author is just as excited to see what delights this world has in store as the reader is!

But Rosalind’s flaw cannot be separated from her fate. When she is carried off by the dragon, everything she thought she knew falls apart. The dragon sees beauty in her talon where her mother saw only shame, and Rosalind finally understands what her mother has truly denied her.
Carey has written a stunning portrayal of the complex relationship between a mother and daughter in a lyrical novel sure to thrill readers who love fantasy—and those who don’t.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Well written Adventure story.......2007-08-26

A well written YA book. It was not dumbed down like some YA books are, the writing was smooth and kept the reader interested in the lead character.
The book tells a story of a princess, the 21st decendent of Queen Evaine, King Arthur's younger sister. The family was banished to the island when the Queen married a men that her father did not approve. The legend was that the 21st Queen will bring peace and honour back to the name of Pendragon.

Our heroine is the princess and only she and her mother know of her terrible secret. The poor girl has a Dragon's claw for her ring finger. Her mother keeps it hidden at all times under golden gloves, and goes to great lengths that the secret is never discovered. When the princess meets the female dragon, and later the dragon is killed, she is kidnapped by the dragon's mate to care for the pips (baby Dragons)
The dragon's see beauty where her mother only saw shame, and it is at the end of the story that the dragons give her the gift of Peace between Human and Dragon.
The adventures are exciting and the book should be recomended to any young Dragon Lover.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely a great book..........2007-07-18

We gave this book to our 13 year old daughter for her birthday this year. Her words when I asked how it was were, "The most awesome book ever!" This is coming from an avid reader... she breezed through this 302 page book in just three days. Right now she is reading the Bartimaeus Trilogy, but says she would like to read more by this author in the near future.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic read for young adult.......2007-07-18

In this young adult fantasy, Rosalind's fate was written in the stars, read by Merlin, some 600 years before she was born. Rosalind's ancestor, Evaine, was the younger sister of King Arthur. Evaine married an outlaw, was banished to Wilde Island, and erased from family history.

Three things are said of the twenty-first queen of Wilde Island; "She shall redeem the name Pendragon. End war with the wave of her hand. And restore the glory of Wilde Island."

The way her mother sees it, with England in the midst of civil war Rosalind will marry Prince Henry, future king of England, thereby fulfilling all aspects of the prophecy. But what if Rosalind and Henry don't get along? Not that they've even heard from the Queen of England, though they assume she is aware of the prophecy. Then there's Rosalind's ring finger. It's a dragon's claw. So far she and her mother have hidden it behind golden gloves, but that won't work forever. They MUST find a cure soon--a cure that is hard to find when potential healers aren't told what the exact problem is.

When an envoy from England comes to Wilde Island, things start looking up a little, especially after they slay the dragon that has been harassing the Island forever. What should be one of the most triumphant moments in their history turns horrifying when the dragon's mate returns to punish the people, and takes a special interest in Rosalind. Before long, Rosalind's life will never be the same, and it doesn't look like the prophecy could ever be fulfilled.

There is so much more to this book! So many more levels and layers to the story! Rosalind may be a Princess with a dragon's claw in a faraway time and place, but her relationship with her mother is something you could see in anyone's life. Her desire to be normal and accepted are the same things every teenager experiences. So while the circumstances aren't something we experience everyday, the people in them, and their reactions to them, are completely realistic and relatable.

Armchair Interviews says: Part fairy tale, part mythology, part legend, all around fantastic!

5 out of 5 stars Dragon's Keep a keeper.......2007-06-29

"What a great story. The ending is unexpected." I am quoting the words of one of my 5th grade students. He requested this book as his prize for reading 200 books this year. He could not stop talking about the story. Based on his response I would recommend this book for young adults.

3 out of 5 stars NOT BAD.......2007-06-09

THIS IS A GOOD BOOK AND I READ IT IN TWO DAYS, BUT IT'S MORE OR LESS LIKE ROSALIND'S DIARY AND I FIND THOSE KINDS OF BOOKS DULL. THERE NOT MUCH ROMANCE IN THIS (IF YOU HAVE READ DRAGON LOVERS YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN, IF YOU HAVE NOT READ DRAGON LOVERS YET READ THIS BOOK FIRST THEN DRAGON LOVERS). THERE'S NOT MUCH EXCITEMENT UNTILL THE LAST THREE CHAPTERS AND THERE'S NO VILLAN UNTILL THE LAST FOUR. AND F.Y.I. THE DRAGON CUTS HIS EGGS FROM HIS MATES STOMACH THEN TAKES THEM HOME.

5 out of 5 stars The union of two predestined warriors in a magical land........2007-09-25

A Restless Knight (The Dragons of Challon, Book 1)

A beautiful romance delivered in an engrossing plot. I loved the character portrayals of the legendary Black Dragon, Lord Julian Challon and Lady Tamlyn MacShane, the mistress of Glenrogha. Two strong yet vulnerable warriors who are predestined for each other. Deborah MacGillivray's narrative deftly illustrates their profound love for each other.

Ms MacGillivray's in-depth insight into Scottish Medieval period is ever present in her detailed descriptions and certainly conveyed me to the magical ambiance of Glenrogha and of the period.

The Challon saga continues with In Her Bed (The Dragons of Challon, Book 2) Damian St Giles and Lady Aithinne Ogilvie, another must read!

Set in the period of Scotland's history, full of bloodshed and cruelty at the hand of English King Edward, known as Longshanks, it is a time of savagery but also a time where out of Scotland's darkest hour emerges the face of William Wallace, as a victorious champion for his people.

The story revolves around an English Knight, Julian of Challon, who has lost favor with his English King and the youngest daughter of a Scottish Laird, Tamlyn MacShane. Julian is fleeing the horrors of Berwick, a town massacred by Longshanks to teach a lesson to the Scottish people. The horrors beheld by Julian and two his two bastard brothers is unimaginable - he is plagues by horrid nightmares and he carries the guilt of the death of his youngest brother Christian that also perished at Berwick.

Tamlyn, the youngest of three sisters and gifted with fey knowledge, is awestruck by the visions that she is able to see from Julian's past. In her dreams, she relives Julian at the battle of Berwick and witnesses the death of Christian, so she is aware of the unbelievable pain that Julian is carrying inside.

The development of the story and its characters will leave you breathless with its beauty. Both Julian and Tamlyn are reincarnated lovers from a pagan time and the fey magik is sprinkled throughout the story.

The splendor and lore of the Scottish highlands is retold here with a magickal wand. You can almost smell the heather on the hills and feel the mists of the Loch envelop you as you read. A truly magnificent novel, skillfully executed by this accomplished story teller. You will be waiting with baited breath for all the continuing chapters in the Dragons of Challon.

The story of Damian St Giles, Julia's cousin and of Lady Aithinne Ogilvie, also Tamlyn's cousin is told in the next book "In her Bed" which is already out in paperback.

Ladies of the Lair includes the first two of the Dragon Knights series: Maiden Flight & Border Lair.

Maiden Flight:

There are not many human females in the world who have the ability to speak with a dragon, much less the courage to stand up to one. When the dragon Kelvan meets the human woman Belora, he knows she is special and resolves to take her to his Knight, Gareth, who will know what to do.

Gareth and Belora are instantly drawn to each other, falling in love at once. Gareth knows recognizes Belora as his true mate, but worries that she will turn away from him when he reveals his secrets to her.

Will Belora be able to live the life of a Dragon Knight's mate? And when her own secrets are revealed, how will they change both her life and her mother's?

This was the first book of Bianca D'Arc's that I read, and I was instantly mesmerized! D'Arc draws the reader in to her story from page one, engendering familiarity with her characters as if the reader has known them for some time.

Belora's and Gareth's love is a tender, almost innocent romance, but don't let that fool you. The story is filled with plenty of spicy scenes, including ménage scenes! Setting the story in a fantasy realm gives the author a prime opportunity to create a valid reason for the ménage, and she not only makes you understand it, but agree with it.

If you love dragons, knights, and sweet romances chock full of sexiness, this is a must-read!

Border Lair:

Adora's story is introduced in Book One of the Dragon Knights series, where she is reunited with her long-lost surrogate dragon mother, Kelzy, who is mother to Adora's daughter Belora's dragon, Kelvan.

Widowed since Belora was a small child, Adora has struggled to provide a good and happy life for Belora, in spite of the heartbreak suffered by both when Adora's oldest twin daughters were kidnapped as toddlers. A talented healer, Adora has supported herself and her youngest daughter by healing the townspeople.

When Belora mated with Gareth and Lars, Adora returned to her woodland shack alone. But when evil attacked the town, leaving it desolate and empty, she is taken in by Kelzy and her dragon Knight, Jared.

Jared thought his life over when his family was murdered. Kelzy gave him a reason to live, bonding with him and making him her dragon Knight. When Adora is attacked in her cottage, Jared and Kelzy rescue her, bringing her to their den, where Jared tends to Adora's wounds until she is well. Having resolved never to love again, Jared is determined not to allow himself to fall in love with Adora, yet finds her irresistible. When his old friend Darien also falls for Adora, will Jared finally admit his feelings to both himself and Adora?

Bianca D'Arc created a magical world with Book One of the Dragon Knights series, and picks up where she left off in Book Two, Border Lair. From the beginning of Book Two, the reader feels as if they simply turned another page in the same story, with no noticeable passage of time between the two stories.

The love story of Jared, Adora, and Darien is a mature romance between adults, and yet is filled with the same sweet innocence the first book boasted. The lead characters' motivations are so pure and noble one can't help but fall for each in their own right.

In this sequel, we learn more about Adora and Belora's secrets, unknown even to the women themselves. We meet a Black Dragon, who is full of his own secrets, and we learn more of the threats their Skithdronian enemies pose, and the atrocities by the enemy king.

Once again, D'Arc treats us to many steamy love scenes, including some ménage themes. I highly recommend this story and its companion books to anyone who enjoys sexy fantasy stories!

A cute book for anyone who likes to dabble in the fantasy world of polyamer clay.

5 out of 5 stars Great step by step explanation.......2007-02-07

The characters in this book are somewhat goofy, however, the author provides excellent basics on armature building for creatures like horses and dragons. If you are looking for a lighter side to the fantasy world and would like to sculpt some fun creatures, this book is perfect. I think that kids will really love how achievable the sculptures in this book are for them.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best art/craft technique books ever.......2006-12-04

Superb from start to finish. If you have any interest in sculpting fantastic creatures in polymer clay this is the best place to start bar none-- and it will take you far. I've done most of the projects in the book and am now very comfortable creating my own critters from scratch. The photos are fantastic with just the right amount of detail (no shots taken from halfway across the room!), the text is very clear (and funny!), and the book is simply a lot of fun overall. Can't recommend it highly enough for anyone interested in the subject.

5 out of 5 stars Awsome Book.......2006-05-10

I love this book it is step by step. I made the first smiling chicken and he looked just like the pictures. Super book.

5 out of 5 stars Gorgeous, but fantasy means trolls here.......2005-08-31

This book is gorgeous, with unique, detailed projects and explicit step-by-step directions. Just be forewaarned that it interprets fantasy to mean troll-like, so even Santa and the Easter bunny are trolls. I am therefore returning my copy, and just wanted to warn you what to expect. But it is an absolutely gorgeous, well-done book, and most people will love it.

5 out of 5 stars Another haunting tale I couldn't reccommend highly enough........2007-04-05

The last of a dying breed, this green dragonella must overcome her grief and terror to find others of her kind. Wistala's thirst for revenge touched a chord in my heart. I was thoroughly swallowed by her tale, just as I was by her brother's in the first book.

I grew to care deeply for other creatures in Wistella's life and some made me laugh out loud. The cat with a mind of her own, the wise and sarcastic buzzards and so many more.

If you dig a book full of passion, humor, tragedy and triumph....you'll dig this book.

5 out of 5 stars A good book for adventure .......2007-01-23

The book I have read is called Dragon Avenger by E. E. Knight it is a sequel in the age of fire collection. This is a very good book for a person how has a big imagination and can follow through with fantasy.
This book is about a beautiful green dragon named Wistala and how her life plays out. (From her mother, father and siblings being killed for there hides to when she meats a kind elf and then the most important part how she gets her revenge on there her families murders.)
My impression on this book is that it is a good book to pass away the hours and get lost in (that is if you like adventure.) this book would be great for kids of about 12 and up.

4 out of 5 stars Wistala's Tale.......2007-01-11

Dragon Avenger by E.E. Knight is the second book in the Age of Fire cycle. It tells the tale of Wistala, the sister of Dragon Champion's Auron. The book starts in the same place as the first. With the hatching of the clutch in the cave. and for the first several chapters, it tells the same story, but through Wistala's viewpoint. This time when Wistala and Auron part, she believes he is the one who dies.

Wistala takes off to find her father who flew off to exact vengeance upon the Wheel of Fire Dwarves who betrayed them. She even manages to find him, near death from his rash attack, and spends some time trying to nurse him back to health. Being a coming of age story, of course the outcome of this reunion is bound to be temporary, and it is. Wistala is forced to flee and is nearly killed by the Dragonblade. Tala, though is rescued by a kindly elf named Rainfall. and she spends the majority of the book growing up in his company. Not a lot of avenging going on yet huh? just a lot of talking cats, and mules, Well the avenging does come. Events lead to Wistala getting the opportunity to take revenge on all who have wronged her, and her family, and she takes full advantage.

I liked the book, it was a light entertaining read for the most part. It felt more like a young adult novel than Champion did. Perhaps it was because of the different feel from the Dragonelles perspective. Perhaps it was where the first book had talking wolves, this one had cats, and horses, and mules, and buzzards. Perhaps I just didn't notice it in the first book. Anyway, Knight does a nice job of expanding his world. We see different areas than we did with Auron. We learn more about the history of the land. He also creates characters that you get attached too. I found myself saddened by the loss of certain characters. Its a worthy follow up to Dragon Champion. The next book in the series is slated to be about the little maimed Copper. I look forward to it.

5 out of 5 stars Another amazing story for kids or adults........2007-01-05

I'm not one for sappy anthropomorphic animal tales and, as with Dragon Champion, this is definitely not that. Dragon Avenger is a no-holds-barred look at the life of a dragon whose family is mercilessly slaughtered by humanoid races. But things aren't black-and-white in Knight's creation as one finds in most other stories - not all humanoids are bad, not all dragons are good. As is Knight's style, all is not always what it seems.

I was concerned about how Knight would pull off re-telling the story of AuRon's and Wistala's family's murder, but he did it wonderfully. Though they are - at their most basic - the same first few chapters, the difference in the points of view between AuRon (Dragon Champion) and Wistala (Dragon Avenger) read as different as any two true accountings of events between two different people. Throughout the two books I was amazed at how well Knight kept the two stories completely separate - there was no rehashing or plot regurgitation anywhere (something I seriously dislike in most other serial writing). Each book - as each dragon - is its own creation and wholly independent of the other. I cannot wait for Book Three!

E. E. Knight is a master storyteller and creator of characters, settings, and cunning plots. Wistala's travels from nest to the climactic ending are filled with life and color keeping the reader eager to know what comes next. And though she's a dragon, Knight's personification of Wistala makes it easy for the reader to fit into her shoes - er, claws.

5 out of 5 stars A STUNNING ENDING TO A SPECTACULAR SERIES.......2007-09-07

Bryan Davis starts with a great series and does the almost impossible. Each book and episode just keeps getting better. The thrills and tensions just keep being ratcheted up. Every book does the near impossibility of always raising the bar. There is no weak moment or book in the entire series. This finale is a classic example of plotting, pacing, atmosphere, characterization and expanding our knowledge of dragons and myth. A genius is a work here. Don't miss a book, sequel or prequel. AND THERE IS MORE TO COME!!!

3 out of 5 stars Too many cliches.......2007-08-09

I've enjoyed this series as a whole, but there were many elements of the final story that bothered me. Mostly, the overuse of the death/resurrection plot point. The savior-like death and resurrection of a character is a common point of fantasy books, and a Christian fantasy book has a little more reason to use that plot device, but this series has used it time and time again. And I felt like when a character actually died at the end, it was a token death. And also, though Bonnie is supposed to be an inspirational character, and in previous books, she's had her own struggles and trials, I felt like in this concluding book and in the third one, she was a Mary Sue, or a character who is too perfect.

The way that the author incorporates the mythical and the inspirational is, as in the other books, very satisfying. There was a lot I liked about the book. But I found myself reading faster and faster in order to just be done, not because I was so enthralled. Also, I got really really tired of all of the prophecies written in fairly mediocre verse.

Would I still recommend the book? Yes, but not to everyone. This book and series is mostly good for a lighter read, even with its weightier themes.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Series.......2007-07-08

Dragon's in our Midst and Bryan Davis' new series, Oracles of Fire, is simply amazing. All the books in both series have kept my attention both by their invigorating plots and characters. I would highly recommend this to anyone that is looking for a good read.

5 out of 5 stars Christian values in a dragon story.......2007-03-19

My daughter reads this series, and she is 13/14. She enjoys it and has told me of the Christian elements present, and I approve of them. For children who enjoy sci-fi/dragon fantasy stories, this one has no message that 'magic is good', but rather subservience to a supreme God. I recommend this author and this series.

4 out of 5 stars Tears of a Dragon(Dragons in Our Midst, Volume 4).......2007-01-12

Well written Christian fantasy that takes away the idea that dragons are evil. After having read the last 3 volumes by Bryan Davis I needed to find a source to order the last book in this series and decided to order through Amazon which friends have raved about. So my review is about them as well. I received the book fast and in excellent condition. With that out of the way, the book has many twists and turns that make it different from other fantasy novels on dragons not which is least that dragons become human to dragons to people again. Dragons in Our Midst tantalizes the reader in it's way of making you guess what will happen next to our heros as well as our minior heros, but stays on the level of the teen/young adult's level. I am not a young adult but enjoy a good fantasy and this was on the scale of Lord of the Rings and Narnia a fairly suspenseful but easy story that young folks would enjoy but adults can get a few days of enjoyment from reality as well. It was more toward the Narnia level of read. It is safe for the parents who don't want their children to read wordly fantasy with all it contains and I would recommend it for those who are homeschooling and want to keep their children's minds from experimenting too far from morality and purity.
